foreign thank you foreign thank you foreign thank you foreign he's also inspiring Financial Independence for other boys all over the world keep going be a leader not a follower King Monty is the founder and CEO of an inspirational clothing line for kids based in Arizona so the name of your company is called we King bro we Kings bro at just 12 years old he has come up with a way to inspire other boys to get curious about financial Financial Independence for other boys all over the world keep going be a leader not a follower it is 45 founder and CEO of an inspirational clothing line for kids based in Arizona so the name of your company is called weekend bro we Kings bro at just 12 years old he has come up with a way
to inspire other boys to get curious about financial Financial Independence for other boys all over thank you Jonah from foreign thank you you and would always appreciate feedback to see if there's anything more that you want but miss dumelian's tried to kind of capture some of the variances that would be things we would look at and go huh why did this happen so that way you know we can kind of give you the benefits of perspective as um as you're looking so with that I'm going to turn it over to miss Duma thank you uh Madam president members of the board Dr Lewis and our accept team this is our final budget for fiscal year 23 ending June 30th um we just remind you of some budget assumptions that we made for this final revision
it is based off of an April report which in effect is March data as far as ADM average daily membership um and then our carry forward as we talked about even at our December Vision there is a higher amount of carry forward in this budget than even we want to carry but it's a large amount of vacancy savings um is really and then some of the stuff that we have in Esser has also provided us with more carry forward and then I do have S your impact there this this budget does reflect us bringing back some costs that I'll talk about later um as of January originally we were going to try to wait until July 1st but I'll explain why we brought some things back a little bit earlier um the next one just
shows it's on the cover of the budget as well um for you to see but the next page really goes into some of those uh comparisons so what I've done is compared it from our first legal budget that was adopted on July 1st I believe typically at the end of June but this one was July 1st where we're at now and for those of you who have seen a few of these presentations you typically see us come in with a projected budget and then they say cut your budget in December and then by the time we get back to our May revision we're pretty close to where we started off that's what you can see here we did pick up some m o and some unrestricted capital budget capacity there and our average teacher salary
did increase we started with that three percent because that's the raise that we gave to our teachers for this fiscal year that longevity that also came through the meet and confer process last year really impacted teacher pay as well so you can see the difference there that it made it went from three percent to seven percent in the May revision it is actual numbers so we kind of estimate at the beginning of the year and even in December because we're still hiring people and people are leaving the May is current data and and an average is applied so that's where we sit on that one and then as Mr Mann uh mentioned I picked out a few of the very big variances that you see in the budget um the first two I kind of
put together because a lot of it is the same for both of these departments and that's physical plant and transportation um you will see on on page one of the mno budget you'll see an FTE increase so we've been able to hire more people in those positions so you can see that as an FTE change the other thing that we did was also coming out of that meet and confer process last year all the custodians went from 11.5 contracts to a 12 point contract 12-month contract and then for our bus drivers we earmarked 10 positions that could move from a 10-month contract to a 12-month contract to cover some of those special Transportation situations in the summer we still have some sped Transportation that's done in the summer for like Aces and some of our
private um private us um placements thank you and then we also have for summer school and now we have these drivers on on for 12 months to help with some of that um those were pretty much expected we also have the you know longevity and professional growth also was a big impact for our classified staff so those being two of our larger departments they were impacted like the teachers were with that longevity increase um and then the one percent raise um the other thing I wanted to mention and this is specific to our Plant Services is that if you'll recall esser-1 that was really hyper focused on a couple areas not like the sr2 and 3r now where it's a little bit wider and you have a little bit more to choose from that was
really focused on PPE supplies but also custodial sanitation so when we had that Grant we bought a lot in bulk so that we could get the best price and we could get it in quickly and make sure that during all of that demand for product we had it in stock we used a lot of that that all through last year so we didn't have to make a lot of those purchases out of mno we had it all in Esser so last year was kind of deflated this year we're kind of seeing it back up to normal but it's even above normal because of the cost of goods and services they're running very high right now um the student support area again impacted slightly by that one percent raise but heavily by that longevity and the
professional growth change that also came out of the meet and confer um from last year and those negotiations but there's also an increase in FTD and so the increase in FTD and regular Ed are things like your duty AIDS any AIDs that help that are in a non-instructional role and also like Ed sex those are all in that 21 range so that's where that increase came from and then School administration this is one of the areas where we brought back assistant principles we originally put those in Esser when we were trying to get the compensation study we were trying to free up funds in mno to pay for that we were intending to bring those back July 1 but in order to free a budget capacity in Esser for the stipends that will be going
out this year and next year we move them back as of January 1. um we do have some significant costs remaining at Esser that will come back um to the mno budget in July 1 when we present the New Year budget um the highest one on that list for me is probably substitute teachers so we've been doing daily subs and the FMLA long-term Subs all out of Esser right now those will be coming back to mno I usually budget about 800 000 for that so that kind of gives you a ballpark figure of what's coming back in mno next year when we start um and I think that's all I had for that one and then we always just include some future budget considerations and many of these you've seen it's the ongoing concern with
ADM the inflation funding versus the actual cost of goods if you'll recall our funding formulas are based on a two percent inflation cap and you can all see that the cost of goods and services is rising much higher than two percent but unfortunately that's just the nature of school Finance we've got the one-time nature of Esther I've already talked about some of those costs that are going to be shifting back in the fiscal 25 and I believe we have a committee that's formed or will be forming to look at kind of weaning ourselves off of Esser and where can these positions fit which ones do we want to keep so there's a lot of decisions that need to be made around that so we'll have a committee that kind of looks at those and works
with the Grants Department and um Mr Mann and I um to see where we can fit some those costs are what trade-offs we need to make and then of course we have no permanent solution for that aggregate spending limit so that's going to hang out until they have a an actual fix in place they're going to hang that over our head each year until there's something permanent in place and that's really what we had prepared for you but we are ready to answer any other questions that you had as you reviewed the documents that we sent out thank you I appreciate your time board members do we have any questions or comments Miss Jeffrey um can anyone tell me what our current enrollment is yeah let me see um well I can ADM we have
probably a better idea yeah usually enrollment is like in the 15 to 20 higher than ABM okay just because of the nature of the way that ABM works but um on the budget sheet what you can see is it's showing uh 2023 is 47.94 um I don't have the 100th day report in front of me but my guess is it's probably closer to that 5 000 Mark in in enrollment even though the funding is marked based on that other number because of the way that the the way that they calculate that EDM number thank you 47.94 47 is the current 80 . any other questions or comments all right it doesn't look like we do thank you so much thank you and we didn't have any comments public comments right basically almost the same yeah
our students King with the pledge okay um when we start all right and that concludes our public budget hearing and that moves into our board meeting we're going to go ahead and we're going to start with our land acknowledgment crane school district understands that our community of schools is located on the ancestral land of the hodem Jude and akumel Odom people who descended from the Hohokam and have inhabited these lands since time immemorial the Odom whose name translates literally to people or a vibrant culture and Community spanning countless Generations into the past continuing to thrive into the present and carrying a powerful Legacy of generations into the future with the to the future with this acknowledgment the Creighton School District formally recognizes that the traditional care and keeping of these lands by indigenous people is
an aspirational model of community stewardship that we are committed to honor with practices policy and human relations and that brings us over to um our pledge and uh Dr Lewis would you start off the Pledge of Allegiance for us please one nation under God is I'm sorry I'm having technical difficult difficulties over here all right thank you so we want when we want to welcome everyone to tonight's meeting and remind the audience of the request to speak address board cards that must be completed and submitted to the board secretary if they wish to speak to an agenda item board policy provides for two cards White cards to be submitted in order to speak to an agenda item and blue cards to be submitted in order to speak during public comments due to open meeting law
board members are not allowed to address items that are not in the agenda this is per policy b-e-d-h that brings us over to um do we have any oh to the approval of agenda I move the governing board approve the agenda as presented all those in favor aye aye perfect and that brings us to adoption of the revised number 3 2223 budget pursuant to policy DB and ARS 15-905 I will go ahead and move the governing board adopt the revised number three total aggregate School District budget per ARS 15-905 specifically 15-905 E1 for fiscal year 22 23. second all those in favor aye thank you and that brings us to public comments no public comments today okay awesome thank you and that brings us to our superintendent report and good evening Community uh I just

it feels good too the idea came after a ride through Skid Row in Los Angeles with his mother Dr Velma Trahan she knows firsthand the reality of being born into poverty I believe that poverty is a state of mind I believe that everything we do starts with our mind what's here what are we doing the mind is a terrible thing to waste and I believe that if we get more children to understand how powerful their mind is then we can we I mean so much change can happen in the world and so when I took him to Skid Row and he got to experience that I believe it changed a lot in him we saw a lot of homeless kids just a lot of homeless people a lot of homeless kids like kids younger than
me and the kids the same age as me the positive change maker is getting some big time attention honored on Chase Field before an Arizona Diamondbacks game is the founder and CEO of we Kings then by Tempe city leaders awarding his company a 25 000 Grant the mayor of Denbigh calls King a role model you don't have to be my age or older than me to start your own business through your own company or to be an entrepreneur you could start as young as 11 or 12 years old and have a huge impact on your city and the state and even our country this is surprising because when I first started I think it would come this far I mean that's pretty cool you got the mayor behind you the Diamondbacks the Diamondbacks behind you

an inspiration thank you um and your mom so supporting I just I wish that all of our kids had um you know the same opportunities that you are giving your child and teaching your child these um I work I'm in a similar district with very poor children as well in their families and um I just love that how you supported him and let him run with his ideas and just be creative and I just think it's so fascinating and wonderful so thank you thank you Miss Michaela and she said it really well but um just so proud of you this is absolutely amazing as she said you are inspiring to other kids I'm sure there's days where you're like oh my gosh is this real and inspiring to yourself continuously but um that's huge that's

was 12 I watched a lot of TV you're helping impressive um I remember I had a friend and she was a little bit older than you at the time 15 but she all she had gone to Mac and now we're older I think the coolest part is seeing how many more ideas and more businesses she's had since then and so I'm sure you're going to have a lot more that's going to happen in the future so that's exciting too if it seems like you're a creative kid as well thank you yeah um yeah thank you so much for being here we appreciate you and your story is a true Testament of why even I decided to run right it's important that we give our power and Empower Our Youth and their voices and you're doing
that greatly and obviously you have a great role model ahead of you but I think you're going to be a great voice to other students that want to do this and like you said age is nothing but a number you guys are smart resilient you guys know what's in I'm apparently I'm I have I'm a mom of a 14 year old and apparently I don't know what's in anymore so um you know you know how to connect with people and that's awesome and I'm just so supportive and I'm so grateful for that you're in a school that supports that too right and I think at the end of the day that's the most important goal all of us sitting up here as board members is that you guys have that opportunity creativity and that empowerment
to do what you want to do with your future so know that this is amazing and I know that I can't wait to work with you and think you you and I talked how we could get other kids involved in these things so I really appreciate your guys's time and thank you for being such a supportive parent thank you thank you for coming you have a quick question what's been your favorite part of this whole journey just what's your favorite takeaway I get to sell [Laughter] are you learning salesman skills Yeah so basically we made we made we Kings bro to inspire all the kids in like around the country to be cool the positive way and be a leader and not a follower and that I mean I'm gonna tell her the acronym Kings
so the K stands for kindness the eye stands for intelligent the n stands for Noble the G stands for golly and his Z stands resilience that's amazing and it's kind of like our mission or goal of the school district too right everything that you just mentioned so we're so lucky to have you and we do donate a portion of the proceeds back to um homeless shelters and at-risk youth non-profit organizations that's awesome thank you so much for your guys's service to the community as well we appreciate you thank you thank you tonight so good to see you do you mind if we get a picture with you guys as a board police yeah yeah go ahead y'all have any kids I do uh oh you know I'm gonna be on your website tonight getting on
my cart yes I'll tell y'all kids to sign up for the affiliate program yeah that's awesome we'll definitely have to connect it perfect one two three thank you thank you [Music] that was so inspiring and that brings us over to our governing board reports Miss air so I'll go ahead and start with you right so I want to begin by saying happy administrators day on Monday for all of our administrators and teacher appreciation is coming up so um thank you for all the teachers and all the work that you do every day um I know we're supposed to talk about um the classes we took and I forgot my book at home and I can't remember anything anymore because I have like 500 000 things going on at any given time um especially since I'm
in the last four weeks of my my master's program and I had to do like 30 extra hours a week so I don't even know what I'm thinking anymore um the one thing that I do remember in one of the classes was and probably because I think it was the most interesting to me and it was actually given by Nea um and they were talking about like biases and how biases affect our decisions that we make every day whether we know it or not um there was like a test that you can take on there and I haven't gotten on to take it yet but maybe at the end of the May when I'm done um with our program and can actually stop and enjoy life again so it's my board report thank you so
much Miss McCaleb um yes doubling down on a happy administrator principal day yes yeah today's Tuesday um and uh there's like a debate whether teacher appreciation week is this week or next week it's supposed to be the first full week in May and Sunday was April 30th I'm celebrating with my teachers this week but no matter when you're celebrating it happy Teacher Appreciation Week we love teachers um for our I wish I could be at the the what Friday is a volunteer luncheon right is that what it is um I wish I could be there but we are doing our end of year testing and all of that fun stuff in my district so I will miss it I'm sad but I hope everyone enjoys that um for nsba um just some of my key
takeaways um uh sessions I went to as well as like some of the just conversations between um and some of the stuff from the keynote was definitely a huge emphasis on scl um and our mental health of our students um I recently also went to school safety Summit last week um which is a Statewide conference um that obviously deals with physical safety and and all of those hazards um but also again just everything I've been to In the last several months has been such a huge focus on mental health of our students and our staff alike so I really I know that we've done a lot of work here in Creighton on that I want to continue to do that there were some interesting resources and programs that we learned about such as Sky schools
conversations about how are we making sure that our there's so many resources on this and I'd like to I'll bring it up as possible future agenda topic but um really making sure we know that cyber bullying and what our kids are getting on social media right now is one of the biggest driving factors for negative impacts on their mental health and so really just making sure that we are being much more proactive district-wide there's Partnerships such as Common Sense Media putting in anonymous tip lines and educating staff and students and parents about those tip lines all of those are huge precautionary measures that like I said not just I'm not just brought up at nsba but also the school safety Summit um and just it we don't have time to not really get ahead and
in front of this with our kids because it is it's a completely different world than we grew up in um I also went to sorry my allergies are killing me after the last 24 hours of wind um we went I went to a really interesting session about Staffing um I think actually Katie and Sophia went as well and it was really about looking and I think I mentioned this at an earlier meeting briefly but um looking at organizational psychology and when we talk about retention and staff motivation and staff mental health as well um in schools in in the education field we tend to kind of operate as a silo instead of really looking at what other Industries are doing um so I won't belabor I have a ton of notes on this and I'd
like to have a further discussion about it in the future um but they really pulled data in ways that other Industries pull data about staff so not just an exit survey not just a climate and culture survey but they really hone down with multiple measures um and what I found interesting is one of the things they found was the seven key factors in educational retention the first one was the district's attention and approach to supporting supporting mental and emotional health so I was like okay it keeps coming back to all of this um as well as things like the quality of professional development um society's view of the teaching profession which so again we have to focus on our locus of control um salary was in there but you know a lot of it was
other things like the ability to request and secure substitute teachers the amount of planning time um so I think you know a lot of these are things that our meet and confer team and other committees are talking about and we are addressing and we've had discussions as a board about um but definitely worth looking more into the data and models that they used and looking at how we can maybe mirror that with ours and instead of Reinventing the wheel and then um lastly um I went to another and I went slain somewhere last year and I know we have our kids Congress which is awesome but I went to another session about student board members and what was cool about this is I actually got to connect with the people sitting next to me are
um from Pendergast and they have an eighth grader who sits on their board um and so I was able to have a really cool discussion with them about um the session was really cool because they did talk about if you were in a state where there aren't there isn't legislation about voting rights of students which Arizona were a little behind on that they did talk about how you can Advocate they had sample um things that you can submit to your legislators to try and advocate for those changes um but then I also got to connect with a district from Arizona that is doing what they can within our current legislation so um I definitely want to investigate that more so we can improve our student voice thank you so much Miss McCaleb Miss mcsheffrey to
my an SBA report um my favorite session I went to as I mentioned before was given by Pendergast um coincidentally a common sense approach to increasing employee diversity I'm not sure how long their superintendent has been there but she um was basically giving the presentation along with her whole board and it was really awesome um just thinking out of the box not you know um anything too groundbreaking some common sense thing that I think perhaps people are afraid to do and policies go along with a lot of this um uh diverse you know further diversifying um your District they do not rubber stamp their policies they evaluate them each and every time they have a policy committee made up of student staff a very diverse group the attorney is really the last one to see
the policy um to do the legal approvals they don't really want the attorney too involved in the beginning the attorney should not be telling you what you cannot do but what you can do is their philosophy and I think we're trying to get there as well um one example of a policy adoption um was promotion regalia their students wanted to show their pride in their eighth grade promotion attire I see some of our schools doing this already um you know putting things you know like how if when you graduate from college you everybody put something on their hat so the kids are wearing stuff as part of their outfit they put that in policy so that's something that will not go away easily I think we heard that from our kids at the Creighton Congress
how you know the middle school kids are tired of the um the uniforms um and in the dress code because they can't express themselves the way they want to um how do they find people for these committees like the policy ones so the two superintendent hosts a parent lunch and learn and she approaches people on the Fly casually and creatively you know it's not a formal um emailing or texting of people um they also partner with GCU ASU and NAU for teacher and staff pipeline they have a parap professional pipeline via GCU to get their substitute certificate most of our hourly staff are members of our community so it's a great place to have a pipeline for substitutes initially they pay Grand Canyon to do the professional development so they train a para and the
teacher as well and this is done in their during their PD time on Wednesday afternoons and they will become instructional techs they have 46 people in their first cohort 35 of which are people of color you can also um partner with community colleges and she said you know are you targeting your social media there's an AZ Barrio stories page on Facebook that you know that's a place perhaps to you know to put the word out for job openings and things like that and also are you training the people on your hiring committees to look for different things sitelight based um hiring methods should be the same this is this is um and someone from Human Resources meets everyone that is before they're hired um a couple things they pointed out indigenous culture it's disrespectful to
make eye contact with someone you know and that goes for people who are on the Spectrum too if and if the people on the hiring committee aren't aware of this um you know that's can be problematic um and she just said she loves the Southwest Southwest Airlines motto which is we don't hire for skill we hire for will um meaning if someone has a will you can teach them the skills but if they've got the will and drive that's really important and one of the questions she asks or that they ask you know um what will you do to combat systemic racism in your role here at Pendergrass so I thought that was pretty cool um and then also I wanted to mention um congratulations to Mr Mann I am so um looking forward to
working with you I think since I've been on this board this is really one of the most United boards that we've had in a while and I think it's going to be um a nice reset a refresh um for this board in this District um so I'm I'm really happy with um a United board coming to that decision um and I'm looking forward to visiting schools tomorrow um I hope some board members will join me and then lastly I wanted to talk about um the special ed investigation that we talked about on March 28th um I was given the task by Miss Korea doll to provide vendors um and I did a lot of research on this this investigations are indeed a thing and they're usually done by attorneys but there's other professionals that do
it um and it is different than an audit quite different um it is a common thing Creighton actually does investigations now and then um but I provided four different vendors on April 20th and I haven't heard anything yet um and obviously this is I find this as something very urgent to me I've been talking about it for months and months and months now um and so I provided that information and followed up with Dr Lewis today what is the status of the special ed investigation and what is the next step and she said there is there is no Department investigation um she did not take from that meeting on March 28th that we wanted to do that as a board so um that's extremely frustrating to me again um I'm being gaslit this is being
obstructed over and over again so I will be calling for a future agenda item tonight um that we the board take action and vote on hiring and conducting a special ed investigation our attorney has already given us told us that it is something that is in our wheelhouse that we can do um I am so tired of the obstruction of this because I do think this is an urgent matter thank you thank you Miss Jeffrey Gibson yeah so um I guess going right off of that I I don't know if we I know we probably need the agenda item but we might also need an executive session with that depending on up because of the procurement issues so I don't know just putting that out there yeah I'm gonna I've got that on my list
for a future um the other thing my gears were turning about when you were talking about Partnerships was um you know we have Gateway right in our backyard and maybe it's something that we can do because I'm all about looping in the rest of the community maybe we can get some sort of partnership going with Wilson and Gateway so that we can all benefit from some sort of pipeline or grow your own thing with Gateway Community College I think that would be a great place to start you were saying Gateway and I was thinking the elementary school I'm sorry I was talking about Partnerships so yeah Gateway Community College I'm sorry I went to school in this District when Gateway really wasn't thanks I have to remember that um so I was like what are
you talking about um another thing I wanted to bring up was just how well I thought our hiring process went I'm really happy with our ability to engage the community and other stakeholders and students feedback um and also just like super happy with how we did things as a board and um congratulations to you Mr Mann um hopefully we'll figure out the contract situation soon um without any hiccups so excited to go on a new adventure with that um admin day yesterday thank you to admin we sit and listen to us every two weeks um we do your job every day um and I guess again I love bringing in history in our community and Mike Madison somebody who had a huge impact on me as a kid me and my brother used to get
in a lot of trouble I was in his office a lot um luckily was never suspended outside of school but probably because we had some good conversations and my parents probably didn't have a cell phone so you know um but definitely Mike Madison who's retired now great guy super impactful on me and then another thing our teachers this week next week we don't have a meeting next week so obviously I I mean I love teachers I don't know what else to say it's like I Love Lamp right um but like I don't know what else to say other than like I had some of the most amazing teachers in this district and I know that's not something that's really changed um and if you could just think about like me sitting here being almost 36
and I could tell you that Miss Mooring Miss Petrie Miss Myers Miss Hosley Miss Merritt Miss D McAllister Miss Hager Miss Henry Miss Lockett Mr papara miss Karen McAllister Miss Pitts and Miss Collins were all my teachers in Creighton and they I still remember all of their names because of just the amendment like the immense impact they had on me and so don't lose sight of what you're doing every day and like the the benefit that you make every day and um the seeds that you plant thank you foreign hard to follow that um for nsba I guess this is the um unfortunate part of being glass I mean we kind of did the same sessions there was only so many sessions that you could attend all the information has kind of been giving um
this last week I was able to attend the Family Resource Center Community baby shower and I'm just in awe and everything that our Family Resource Center does we had about I mean I think um pregnant people that came and got free food free um baby shower gifts diapers it was really fun um I'm just really enough of all the hard work that they do and how they really do Center our community and I think that's very important um I also was able to attend the Family Resource Center spring picnic that they did um within the last two weeks and that was amazing to see we did have a lot of young preschoolers so I know that those are all our next little generation of kids coming in so that's why I think it's so important
to have these community events because we're letting know the community that this is a home for them and their family and that's how we start the connection so that was amazing to to be part of I also went to the A Plus of Excellence School recognition the Biltmore Prep Academy had just recently that's where one of my sons goes Fiesta Bowl was there and they presented them with a nice award it was just great to be part of that celebration to see how they really do nurture and love the bilingual dual language curriculum and everything that we're doing it was just great to see to see all that on a personal level I finished school board Partners I was able to finish that we would actually be meeting in May this has nothing to do
with the school district this is separate but we'll be meeting in May with all the fellows who who finished that program and it was really great it was it was hard work it was the three-month you know every Monday on top of everything else but I'm really glad that we got to do it because it really did help with the superintendent process and how the information that they gave and giving this anti-racist lens so that was great to be a part of I'm also proud of all the community input that we had for our superintendent search I think it's important for us to toot our own horn when we do things out of the norm apparently we have been the only School District to have a student student voice Focus grouped um the guy that
was with us you know he said for the past 20 years he's been doing superintendent searches and not one school district has ever had a student voice input and that was board members yes that um so I thought that was neat you know I think we always advocate for our students they they're first hand I believe in their voice they're they're not ashamed they're not scared to say what is out there and yet those are the voices that we rarely Everly literally um you know take into consideration so the fact that we've been the only school where to do that I just says a lot about the board I think um the community in-person forum for the last one we had a great turnout I think we had over I wish somebody would have taken
tally but I think we had over 100 people there I'm not sure but it was a big um turnout so the fact that the community came out and we gave that space we didn't have to do that we could have done all this behind closed doors but obviously I think the sentiment of this board is very important what you guys have to say teachers community members so thank you to everybody too who's shown up and given their advice because we really did take it to heart and yeah that ends my board report so that moves us along to my iPad shut off to I move the governing board approved consent agenda items a through H in accordance with policy bebd-e can I just pull letter A really quick of course I move the governing board
approved consent agenda items B through H in accordance with policy bebd-e second all those in favor aye aye um you have the floor to discuss item ization action effective date which I think is fantastic I was just curious if we might be able to add years of service in the future just so we could know maybe how long someone's been with the district when they're leaving if it's a resignation or whatever it may be it just might be interesting to see you know kind of it says higher in effect you have to math oh I guess I wasn't really I was I here's the other thing it ain't really friendly to the eye if I'm going to be honest when I looked at it I didn't even realize those other things were on there I
had to read it twice yeah it's my issues but maybe we could do it it's a lot of texts just running onto itself maybe we could do like a table I know this is getting nitpicky but it's hard to just look at at a glance okay we can sorry yeah we can just get out there okay but I'll move to approve uh consent agenda item a and hopefully we can make some in accordance with b e b Dash e i second all those in favor aye aye all right that brings us to our general section and this is where we will be discussing the Arizona School Board Association proposals for the political agenda just so everybody knows Arizona School Board Association is the association where we get most of our policy services so they have
uh what's called a political agenda or a political committee and they take voices of all the 260 I think we're members of 242 sorry districts in Arizona and they prioritize what they want asba's um lobbyists to basically Lobby for when it comes to like you know we should be having free preschool and you know all these different kind of things um so we as a sport will discuss if we agree if we want to make changes and give those recommendations to um the Arizona School Board Association um so this is the 2023 one so we would be saying what in addition or take away from this yes okay and um I since we are discussing this and it comes it kind of ties in I wanted us to one of the things I don't know
if you guys know what happened but Arizona School Board Association ended their partnership with the National School Board Association over some stuff that happened with an executive director doing something during the pandemic and we kind of um ended those ties however I think it's important that asba goes back just because ever since asba got out of an SBA um there hasn't been any federal advocacy at that moment and federal advocacy goes hand in hand into like local and state so I would like for us to send either a letter or add in addition to that we recommend we partner up with the National School Board Association again because we're missing a lot of that advocacy for school board members on what we want our congressmen and our federal leaders to do for us at the
school districts which I believe the 40 percent I think it's the 40 meeting us completely when we come to our special education that's something that hasn't been done for years and have passed so there's a lot of things that I think we can be working together to push our our federal leaders elected to be doing on our behalf so that's the that's the only thing that I don't see on here that maybe we can do but I don't know if you guys have any discussion um if you guys have any edits I think comments um two things one in China advocate for asba to join nsba is that something that would live here and US suggesting that we add it to the political agenda because I feel like these are more I don't know if
it would or if it's something that would be better suited for us as a board writing a letter I guess that's a decision that we can come up with I am this could tie in into the improved outcomes for all students just because you know and I think it does just because it was the legislature who had said if we continue being members of nsba that the district wouldn't be able to pay dues yeah now was that a something that the legislature passed or just a they advise it they didn't pass they just threatened they took it off of the table I wonder if that would even fall under preserve and strengthen local control because we're strengthening our local control as a school board by having Partnerships and the power of many in asba and
then even more so in nsba okay I I can see how that can live under there so yeah if we can make a recommendation within that I I agree any feedback on that no I agree too okay and I think we can do that on can I send you that submission form if you want you want to write up Sophie and then I then I commit it okay that works um oh yeah I have I have it right here my other piece was um I well I just wanted excuse me I just want to double down if we can on the supporting policy for social emotional Wellness especially in what our certain people in our state are doing right now um and then I don't know where this would live but I kind of going
back to the student members of board since we don't have legislation around that in Arizona or we don't have like they don't have any voting Powers so for example some states they can have voting powers with the exception of like Personnel and you know what I mean like there's limitations because they are minors but um those are and I can get more information on what that looks like from that session but those are pieces that were passed at a state level so Governor section two or three I think there's an argument for how having more stakeholders is going to improve our local control I think but then also it could also improve outcomes for students yeah and if you can give us a because I think on May 24th we still have until May 24th
to make the make these edits so if you're able to give us a little bit of information on that so we can get actual wording because I can submits are hard right now I'm sorry it's fine yeah and that would be great that way we can bring it back on proposed items and on the 24th and then we can students being involved right and Madam president there may have been a reason under the first one not to put the aggregate expenditure limit I'm scanning and scanning and looking and looking I don't see it articulated explicitly but the uh lifting of the aggregate expenditure limit may have been um I already omitted I just don't I find it hard to believe that it's not in here so there must have been a reason okay I just
don't know what it is so that's a worthy discussion um the first bullet point under improve outcomes for all students is increase the compulsory attendance age from 16 to 18 years or the attainment of a high school diploma or GED before the age of 18. I get this I get the reasoning behind that but right now there's a criminalization element to the compulsory attendance statute and I would hate to increase the level of criminalization of our youth so that's a No-No for me okay see okay hold on um thank God we have a public defender age okay that's a good point so that's the kind of feedback that they need to hear so okay I'll make sure I I feel like I mean 95 yeah yeah okay um any other feedback there's things things that
you know I would like to bold but like I'm like I want to double down on it but we do get to prioritize like we get to put in our our top five as a board okay there's like a forum that we submit so that's where we can either add ones that aren't on here and or double down on the ones that we really want to make sure priority yeah and then on May 24th we can if we each have like our top five we can discuss those and then bring them all together together oh together you know what I mean has anyone else been on the committee for this before I think I have okay I have before I went to the delegate assembly and I believe she's this delegate oh yeah I think
I'm yeah so just everybody knows the way they at least when I was on the committee um it was really kind it seems like too much stuff on the list but they just want to make sure that they have everything there in case an opportunity arises with a legislator so you know prioritizing them isn't that important it's more like is there something we're missing or is there something you want to take off you know and I've argued against that compulsory making it compulsory to 18 having a son who found out you could drop out at 16. yeah yeah um there's a lot of ways to get out of the compulsory the the criminalize certainly and but but I suppose if you're disenfranchised that's a little harder people navigate who get um dinged um but I
do think there's a value in like saying yeah you should be in school because I also have heard people um argue that um kids are forced to um work at home I used to work in high schools girl yeah you know but what I'm saying is and also you could bring this up too I'm a part of Arizona attorneys for criminal justice we lobby at the Capitol all the time and we're happy to come talk to asba or anybody else and we often provide suggestions for amendments or suggestions for policy or even Consulting on things so happy to do that as well because there's ways to make to make that a resolution or to affect policy change without necessarily criminal further criminalizing things while still having ability to enforce it okay awesome there's always a
good on that one yeah perfect any other additional questions or comments all right awesome thank you guys for that discussion and then we'll bring forward more stuff on May 24th that brings me to legislative political report I do not have one I'm not sure if anybody else has one doesn't look like anybody does all right yeah except for new appointments anyways um future agenda items yeah so I would like to call the cultural meeting with an item um for to for the board to conduct a special education investigation and I'm asking for a special meeting because I don't want to wait another two weeks um because I have been waiting for months and continue to hear issues of concern um we've been given the go ahead again by legal um and I it sounds as
if the board is on the same page but we can find out um when we take a vote um and then I want to call for an executive session with our attorney regarding new Personnel issues and complaints that I have recently heard that do not appear to be being addressed adequately or following policy and then also in that executive session I would like to talk about um the A1 use is that what it's called yes and I'll get with you with these get the information and I'll um and then I'll make sure I get with legal I know the A1 we have one set up already so I don't know if it would be beneficial just to bump it up since it's already scheduled to do it but we can discuss that and I'll discuss
that with the attorney and then I'll get with Dr Lewis too just to see how we can accommodate all this thank you and then one other thing um I don't know if this is at a board meeting or if board members can just do this on their own um I did receive a quote that I've also forwarded um uh on April 20th to um you Mrs griodal and Dr Lewis um for an audit for um Creighton Academy I just think it's it's like a 10-page proposal or so I think it's interesting for board members to look through that and and also compare it and also look through the three-page audit that fmg provided Us in the last board update if if board members and so all what I'll do is email that to um Hilda
so she can forward it to all of you and you guys could just review those two documents before the June 6 meeting when we're talking about the vote of the the GMP I just think those two documents would be interesting to compare and you're you'll learn a lot about you know what does an audit look like and why do an audit and that kind of thing okay awesome and we're making sure that's on the next one because we would need to talk about it before the GM you vote June 6. and our next meeting is May what 27th 24th so and I don't think I don't it could either be discussed on June 6 or I just want board members to take a look at it you know and be aware of it be informed
yeah okay that works um do you have any other future agenda items no um Miss Gibson cleaned any okay any over here miss McCaleb Um this can be more towards Summer and planning for next year but I do really I want to have a discussion on um some resources and how we can support a district-wide digital citizenship Online safety initiative there are some free easy things that absolutely can be put together and shared district-wide with all teachers as we return um uh also would like to um have a discussion in the future about having a student board member and then um probably be I don't I'll share the information from that session but maybe a study session about retention and how we can use data more effectively for staff retention I don't know if it
needs to be a full study session or if I share the information it can be impactful but thank you Miss Ayers do you have anything the thing is I still want to move up the district-wide behavior plan committee because like I know we're just ending the school year but to put something in place literally it takes like a long time and so the longer we wait on it the farther away it's going to be from implementing anything can you explain what is that is it what it sounds like yeah okay so then I would guess to me I feel like district-wide Behavior plan policy updates on jic JK JK are very Sim are like they should be intertwined um and then uh well I guess I didn't put it in here but I I haven't
submitted a form but I think in a previous meeting I had brought up like questions about um threat assessments and Crisis Intervention stuff which also goes hand in hand with that stuff maybe it can be like a company even with the Online safety and all that like that can that's all part of it comprehensive safety study session yes and and I can't see it right now because the iPad is not working but um you know having cea at the table to kind of provide us with feedback on the behavioral things that they're seeing is one thing I would wanted to do fairly soon too the only issue we run into is with some of those things maybe discussed in an executive session versus a study session yeah and we I can go over with attorney
what would be appropriate for an executive versus the study session certainly the cea feedback or who ever's feedback okay perfect um anybody else okay and I just have to um I I think this one is going to have to happen sooner than later just because we're in our superintendent search um I need for us to revise and update policy GC BBA and GCO all those have to do with superintendent evaluations um yes GCO and gcbba are both of our policies that live that have to do with evaluation instruments um so I need to put that and then also dress code district-wide address code to be as a future agenda item too and then I can discuss later how I I think we would like for that to look like just so you know and as
we load a bunch of stuff on our summer for next school year I will not be at the June 27th Maybe okay thank you so that's fine all right um I believe those are all our future agenda items with that being said I move the governing board adjourn all those in favor aye thank you so much for everybody here for being here tonight hope hopefully I can see you guys that are events coming up this week have a great night buenas noches
