Um, a little bit of a change tonight since it's our first January meeting. I'm going to start the meeting until we get to the election of board chairperson and vice chairperson. So, um, I will call to order our regular meeting for January 12th, 2026. Um, all board members are present. Is there a motion to accept the agenda? >> Right. >> You you >> um all those in favor? >> All those opposed? >> The motion passes. We will move on to election and appointment of board chairperson and vice chairperson. The first order of business will be to elect a board chairperson. Is there a motion? >> Um as outgoing vice chair um I'm going to nominate Gina great house to continue as the board chair. um due to my professional and civic obligations, it's not um
something that I could take on right now. >> Is there a second? >> Second. >> All those in favor? >> I. >> Any oppose? >> Motion carries. Congratulations, Miss Greg. >> Thank you. And I appreciate the the confidence that you have in me. It's as always an honor uh to serve with uh this group and I I will never say no when ask to to serve. So, but I appreciate your kindness. >> Do you want to pick up from here? >> Um okay. >> Or do you want me [laughter] to continue? >> Come on. Keep going. >> The next order of business is to elect a vice chairperson for the board. Is there a motion? >> I nominate Rebecca Barnes as vice chair. >> Is there a second? Any discussion? >> Miss Barnes, are you
good with that? >> I guess we just didn't know what's going to happen. [laughter] >> Sorry. All those in favor? >> Well, any opposed? All right, motion carries. Thank you. And now we will move on to recognitions. >> Sorry, I don't think for whatever reason the video was on or the it's like going in and out. Okay. So if you I did the vice chair but you might just go and repeat that we did notice the chair person but the video doesn't >> okay I'll just recap we won't like reenact >> just so the public knows that on 3A election as chairperson there was a motion made by Sabrina Gordon that Gina great house continue to serve as the board chairperson with a Second from Margaret Hillman and a five unanimous vote. Is that good?
>> Yeah. Okay. Um recognitions. Um I'll be short and sweet because I know you all don't like recognition, but I am going to make you get up for a picture. >> You have a plant and a card in front of you. Um I'm sure you already know that January is schoolboard recognition month. So I also have a certificate for each of you. You can come up and get it just like we asked the students to do. Take a picture. This Gina great house, >> Rebecca Bar, our new vice chair, Margaret and Donna. Okay. >> One, two, three. >> Thank you. Okay. The next agenda item is comments and concerns. At this time, no one has requested to address the board. Um, relative to reports, this is a personnel report. This report has a uh stipened
uh change for Second Street School South Hall. Uh so I'm going to recommend uh that we approve it. Is there a motion to that effect? >> So moved. Second. >> We have a motion and a second. All in favor and so by saying >> I personel approve. Next is the orders of the treasurer. We also have the credit card statement and the student activity fund reports tonight if you have questions on those. >> Um wanted I put a lot of this in your notes but wanted to point out that there was um a lot of still a lot of insurance purchases at Fieldhouse. Um, one really big one for a piece of equipment. Mr. Driscoll, do you want to explain what that piece of equipment does? >> It's a cable machine. It messed it all
stuff. Um, we had one some years ago, which is was old and we got rid of this. It's just a cable bar machine. You can do a lot of stuff with it. Some same stuff where we got from >> uh I did some research. lateral pull downs, bench presses, seated rows, and more. I included a video for the blue. Just a very compact piece of equipment um that does a lot of things. Um little things that on page three there is a stamp for books purchased. The stamp is something we purchased to mark every book that we ordered for the literacy grant. That's required for all non-consumable items purchased with a federal grant. You saw a reading list for prek and K, a preschool book order. Those are all literacy grant purchases. We still have,
Mr. Elmore, I think you told me because we get year one and year two in this first year, we still have somewhat of $200,000 to spend. >> Yeah. This this year we have $104,000 and for next year 212,000. >> Um, some of a lot of that will be focused on birth to age five programming we talked about today. and um really ro making our libraries our library more robust and trying to come up with something creative for the high school since there isn't a technical library space but trying to come up with something creative as far as library um checkouts are concerned. Um I put on here that we we had a rent payment for next door. We've made several rent payments so far. Um we are everything is wired and ready to go next
door. Right, Mr. Jones? >> Yes. So um slowly moving some things over there just to spread out a little bit in this building. Um Oc has also expressed interest in renting an office space. So I will be following back up with him about that now that we have both spaces available. Um and of course our auditor is here tonight to present our audit. And on page five, you see our audit fee. So, um, hand in hand, those three things. And on page two, on the very front page of my notes, we saw the FHS Knox box. This is the box that needed to be replaced at the high school per the local fire marshal that contains keys for emergency entry. We also were required to move that box to a more accessible location when we
replaced it. Um, we also will have the fire, it's not in my notes, but we also will have the fire marshall in the building soon to inspect the culinary lab. When they came in, they told us we needed to add ventless hoods to every cooking station in the culinary room. So, Mr. Driscoll and his team have worked over the break to um put those in. And the electrician was there today to make sure that we could plug them in because we bought microwaves with ventless hoods to get the microwaves off the counter for more counter space. And we purchased all that through the layback grant. That's for career and teched programs. I have a question on this page two. This uh $5,000 for the fieldhouse equipment. We had an offer fuss and free. >> I
mean, is this the same? Why would we be spending this? >> No, it's a different piece of equipment. It's not anything that we already had. It's not It was It's not anything that was going to be donated either. We were going to buy this either way. Well, I will say, you know, it the timing was really bad and you know, like Miss Tilman said, on the heels of uh such a generous offer and of a donation um and the fact that uh you know board direction was defined even though that was a deficient is a regrettable uh decision and um that's all I'm going to say except that you know I think we have requested an accounting of insurance funds. It's important that we use those funds to restore us. We had a lot of
damage >> from the flood and you know we have to prioritize those funds so we are restored at least to the the place we were. uh before the the flood. So, I'm going to propose that we receive an accounting of the insurance uh monies and that uh no further expenditures be made without board approval. I'm talking about prior approval, not after the fact. And I think if other board members are sort of okay with that, that's how we will um move forward with future expenses. Any comments? Is everyone okay with that? >> No. On page three, there's a network rack mount. >> What is that? >> Uh, that was the rack we purchased for next door to mount our equipment on uh to get the internet up and going for next door. >> Okay. Is
it indoor or outdoor? >> Indoor. And then the um on down that page the uh scoreboard net. Is that for the Ying Street? >> Okay. >> It's nice. >> It's very nice. >> I thought it would be but I just want to make sure. >> It looks great. I'll send you a picture. >> Picture a good one, too. Um, that's all I had. Yeah, that's all I had. >> I noticed a pretty big purchase for buildhouse cleaning supplies. Is that a an annual like? It's definitely a bigger one than normal, right? Um >> we've been doing some pretty heavy cleaning over there to get it ready. >> Well, I was going to suggest that they be used. [laughter] >> Any other questions? Audience. >> Is there a motion to approve the orders of the treasur?
>> So, we have a motion and a second. All in favor and by saying >> others are >> approved. I have one um question on the credit card statement or I just need a reminder on the Nashville Tennessee charge. Uh can you remind me which group that was? >> It's probably Dr. Sing the CD comments. >> Yeah, that's what I was thinking. It looks like the same amount. The fact >> reimburse the purpose. Yeah, it's the home to suites for the CTE conference, career teched conference. We had to pay for it up front, but Perkins Fund reimburse. >> Is it students? >> No, it was a conference for teachers. >> Okay. I think our procedure has been to approve any out of state even for >> uh adults. If we can make note of that
for future [laughter] I don't remember it. I'll go back. >> It may could have been on a consent agenda, but I I don't remember it. >> Go back and look. Any other questions about student credit cards or the student activity? Okay. If not, we'll move on. The consent agenda is next. Was there a motion to approve the consent agenda? >> Move. Second. >> We have a motion and a second. All in favor? In case I say all. >> Hey, the motion carries. The consent agenda is approved. And now for the fun stuff. It's time for the audit presentation. >> I thought it would be a blast. [laughter] >> Um, do you all have a thoughts? Please, please. >> Wherever it looks, >> wherever works for you. >> The camera. >> Um, sure. >> No, I'm
trying to put you in there. >> You're good. All right. Um, we met up coffees early, so I'm assuming everybody's had one, had a little bit of a chance to look over it. Um, so I will try to go through relatively quickly. I'm sure you all have a a large agenda and then try to leave time for questions if that works for everybody. >> Actually, I'm sorry to interrupt. >> Yes. >> Is there any way we could get this earlier? This is a lot to absorb in two days. >> I did not realize that y'all wanted to mail early. So once Logan reached out, I met we met the same day. If I had known then yes in future yes we can definitely know them once they're done. >> Okay. Thank you. >> I I
had no idea that was what y'all wanted but yes >> actually my fault. I could have delivered them sooner too. >> Okay. >> We both we both know. >> Yeah. So yeah in the future once we get it done get this the rep letter signed back I go ahead and mail the copies then or I can even try to get you electronic copy if that be more convenient to send out to them. >> Okay. Thank you. >> The first page right from the table contents. This is the independent auditor's report. This is the whole reason why we're engaged to do work for the district. And you will see in the second paragraph under the first section of the opinion section, it says that in our opinion, the financial statements referred to above presented fairly in
all material respects respect the financial position of the government activities, business activities, and each major fund and aggregate mans of the district. That is the technical formal way of saying a clean opinion or a past opinion. I'd like to get that out of the way at the very front because I've had people who will listen to me and have no idea where we were going the whole time. So clean opinion when it's all said and done. Third section down, emphasis of matter. If you look at last year's report compared to this year's report, this is new. There was a new accounting standard that went into place this year that requires a um a larger amount of of retirement for u and sick leave for teachers be recorded on the financial statements. This isn't a change
the district made. This is a change my firm made. This is something that's nationwide across all governmental entities and it requires that used to what got recordable of teachers who were eligible for retirement got booked as a liability. Now it's all sick leave. So you can have a 23 year old 24 year old teacher who'll be there for 25 years or 20 year and they still will get recorded now as opposed to after they've met the retirement uh criteria. the way it works so that you don't have a huge income impact all in one year. Let's say hypothetically the last year the amount was 700,000 under the old method. This year it's a million4. Just throwing out numbers here without looking at that. So you don't have 700,000 flow all through this year. You backdate
as if the numbers have always been there last year. So that only the change is what gets recorded this year. Does that make sense at all? So then had this been implemented had this been implemented last year, last year's liability would have been an additional $694,000. So that way all of that didn't flow through this year's activity. It's as if that had always existed and then only the change from last year's number to this year's number under the new method is what goes flows through this year's financials. So that's that's the best I can explain. We can go through more detail if you want. But next section down, it is responsibility of management. Management is responsible for the preparation of fair presentation of financial statements. These are your financials. I take what Logan gives me.
We test it. We put in a certain format, but this is your responsibility and your all financial statements. And the next page, last thing I'll hit in the August report is under the auditor's responsibility. And basically, it says my responsibility is to test the numbers, perform procedures to see if they're materially correct. to which we have done and we've concluded a clean opinion. Starting on page four, this is your management discussion analysis. This is the summary of what we're about to look at. So, I will skip these pages and you'll jump to page eight, this is your statement of net position or traditionally your balance sheet. Moving down through there, you will see this first subtotal. Your governmental activities and your business type activities combined are a little bit over $17.5 million of assets. Your
deferred outflows, as we discussed last year, is related to your CS shortfall at the state level. These are numbers that have to go on the financial statements, but they're not obligations you'll have to pay unless either the state goes bankrupt or the district itself closes that, but they're still required to be reported on the financial statements. Your third subtotal is your total liabilities of $15.7 million of which the two numbers above that are 2.7 again for the CDRS and 1.6 million for the KTRS. So those again are numbers that you all don't aren't obligated to pay but they're required to be on here. They kind of muddy the waters in all honesty. So you get down to your net position and your all net position which would be your total assets minus your liabilities 1
million29,584. So anytime it's a positive number, you have more assets than you have liabilities. Also, that liability number is overstated or or inflated. I don't want say overstated inflated by about 4.3 million. So you really closer to about $5.3 million of assets over liabilities. Page nine, this is your statement of activities at um and this will show the at the governmentwide level, which includes all funds um as well as long-term items. Your third line up from the bottom, you will see that your net income on a governmentwide level was 1,276. Your net income at a um business type activities were almost 348,000. So overall for the district, it increased last year. That equity number increased last year almost a million six. So again, anytime that number is positive, you're doing good. I've got big districts
that, you know, honestly would love to have a positive number. I've got negative numbers of some districts in the three and $4 million range. So to have a anything positive is good. Anything well over a million dollars, you're you're doing something right. That again is at a governmentwide level which includes debt, fixed assets, everything. A lot of my district they really care about are how the funds doing. How's the general fund doing? So you will see on page 10, this is your governmental funds and the first column there or is the general fund. You will see the general fund had $2,82,000 of cash at the end of the year. That's up. Last year's number was a million745. So again, finished the year with more money than you start year with. I call that a good
year. I have one district that's still not complete and they're about a negative $2 million in cash right now in their general fund. So again, I've got much larger districts who would love to be in the situation that that you all are in. You will see at the bottom of the assets there a inner fund receivable of $245,000. Um that's a little unusual for for most districts or to to have that for your all size. And what that is, majority of that is the um special revenue fund is $51,450 special revenue owes the general fund which was just timing of funds were spent upfront before the grants were submitted for reimbursement after year end. So that's that's not uncommon. And then your construction fund though, you all have $194,000 that owes the general fund and
that was all from talking to to Sherry and Logan. That's that's all timing. You al put out some money ahead of time for some construction projects that will the way it works the the money will flow to the building fund which will transfer the money to the construction fund which will then reimburse the general fund. That's normally only time I normally see that is like if there's a bond being bid out and you'll spend money for the bond is issued but that's not the case for you all. Not that anything's wrong. It's just you all did front some construction money before the tax money came in. Um, other than that, assets, liabilities for all other funds were pretty regular. You'll see on page 12, you're going to see the income statement for the funds. The
revenue for the general fund was 11 million, almost 11,746, up from 10,224 last year. So, you all did um very well there. Your expenses were actually up as well related to that. 11,796 versus 10680. And a lot of those page 12 shar I say something wrong. >> No. >> Okay. Sorry. Yeah. I said the wrong page there. >> Um and that's up a lot of that is related to the the CS as well. So those and KTRS. So those numbers are a little higher. They will actually flow through the district. That's just how you have to report them. You all receive proceeds from sale of property of $424,000. So that's a a onetime thing. So, your all's net income for your general fund was um third line up from the bottom of the first column,
$469,000, but 424 of that is related to the sale of the building. So, you can't really rely on that from year to year. Last year's number was a negative $391,000. So, pretty big turnaround from a negative 391 even to a positive was that $45,000 if you back out the building. Again, I've got districts we got at 12 schools. probably half them would love to have any positive number in in that column. So, so doing wells in in that standpoint. Page 14 just to hit on the food service and the daycare fund. You'll see your assets liabilities CS there as well. I was hit the second line up from the bottom that your food service ended with with a positive fund balance of $132,000 while your daycare fund in with positive $23,000 overall business for positive
028156. And the next page over you will see again just hipping on some highlights in your third line up from the bottom. Net income for food service last year $30,000. This year $105,000. I I don't know who your food service director is. I I I wish some of my other districts does what she she does and what you all do. Um your all summer feed program is to think for the full week. Parents got to show up one time. Most people can make it once. Most people don't make it five times or or you know >> it's a drive-thru, too. >> That's what you said. Yes. Yes. Those I mean >> highly orchestrated drive-thru. I mean the the districts my my local districts the one been hot one my girls go to but if you
want food there you pull in you can find a parking spot within two or three blocks you get out you have to walk in stand line get the food do that on Monday lo and beh Wednesday Wednesday so whoever I don't know if you got that from a train that's something you came up with I had loaded in the gym but I had never seen anyone else do that >> through co >> okay delivery >> wherever all that came from congregate and non- congregate feeding assist. >> Your all's food service really does does excellent >> and we're very proud of >> service. >> So again, take that from a $30,000 net income last year to 105,000 this year is is a very strong position to be in. Um I won't keep comparing all the bigger
districts. Some of the bigger ones I do, one of them had this year had a food service loss of $500,000. >> Oh boy. So, for you all to have a income at all, again, many of my districts would would love to have that. >> Y'all's daycare fund had a net income of $318,000, which is a little misleading because that is due to the CS change. Um, that that number changes based off stock performance at the at the KD level. And so if last year their allocated portion of daycare fund was 600,000 and stocks do great and this year it's allocated liabilities 400,000, you had a $200,000 reduction in liability which goes as a reduction in expenses. So it's not truly money saved here, but it's it's numbered reported on on the um on on the
audit. So, what I will point out over on page about halfway down the page, there's a net increase decrease in cash cash equivalence, Boon Service had a positive or increase of cash for the year of $65,000 and the daycare funded have had an increase of almost $50,000. So, again, not the $300,000 we just looked at, but it did have a positive inflow of cash in the daycare fund. I just really want to point those out because a lot of times those for-profit funds people watch really closely and and and so to be misleading with the CBRS in there. Both of them performed well this year. I will skip to page and talk about it on page 21 starts the footnotes. These footnotes are standard definitions, terminology that will be in here. I'm still audit 20
years from now will be the same word in here. I will skip quite a bit of what we're about to do. This is where people get excited because they see the pages flipping. We will stop on page 29 and 30. Bottom of 29, the top of 30. This just lists out all fixed assets. I just like to point those out to show that y'all had construction projects at the end of last year. Here you have new construction projects at the end of this year. Those building construction projects did complete for last year's projects for an increase of a million8 in your building and y'all's fixed assets. Bottom of page 30 list your all's debts. You all have a several um bonds a few kids to leases for buses. That's in the page bottom of page
03330. This kind of summarizes all that in one spot. So when you get to page 32, you get your CS, PTRS stuff for about the next 30 pages. So most of my districts want to skip that because they know that's not numbers they have to code. So the next place we stop will be over on page 49. Boot 11 on page 49. This is your on behalf payment. These are items that are recorded as payments made by the state on your behalf. Um, if the state ever quit making those funds or reduce how much they're going to pay, those numbers could be obligations that you all have to pay. Y'all might cut expenses, not pay as much as what's listed here, but those would be obligations you all potentially could have to pay. Footnote 12,
y'all have the inner fund receivable payable. We already discussed between general fund, construction fund, special revenue fund, and then bottom 49 just mentions the transfers that took on took place between the funds. If I can stop you just there with the question. Um with respect to uh budgeting, is there any guideline about when we should receive budget amendments about interf transfers or to >> I have a right or I have not write up I have a recommendation when we get to the back of that as far as um yes transfers I think for most of the time you all do record them at the first of the year but then as items changed throughout the year. A lot of times the the budget amendment hasn't taken place, though we do have a just a a
recommendation to to kind of tweak that process that we can get to whenever we get to the >> Sorry, I No, absolutely. I would prefer you ask now than to >> wait for 70 pages and try to remember what I was talking about. >> So, the next several pages again are going to be CRS, KDRS stuff. I mean, it really takes up about 45 pages of the report. Um, so I'm going to skip over to page 69. My report's falling apart here. Sorry about that. I like to always point out the activity funds just because that's money going through the district. It's not going through the simple office here. So therefore, it's always different controls. You can implement similar controls. They have the red book to follow. Um, the secretaries a lot of times might
do their own little thing, tweak things a little bit. I don't know how your alls do. Um, so you'll see there in the second third column that you all took in almost $511,000 your activity funds and spent out about $497. So again, that's a lot of money going through that's not going through this building. So I just always like to point that out. Again, I've got districts where that number is $2 million and they have eight schools and every school does things a little bit different. So there's always a risk there when that that those numbers aren't necessarily going through here. So, I always like to point that out just how much it's going through. We will stop again. You should see my letter head again on page n I lied to you. Stop the
orange squad here on page 72 and 73. This is federal funds, federal money you all see spent for the year. You all spent two almost $2.1 million of federal funds. We tested a million 57 of that to which we had no issues with which I will get to in a second. Next page over you'll see our letter head. You all are a government entity. So anytime there's a government audit, you have to give it a special report. Study learn if there any material weaknesses or significant deficiencies found during the audit. I believe in 2023 you all had four. Last year you had one. This year none that we found. I cannot say you have none because I do not test every dollar goes through here. What I can say is through our testing, our scopes,
uh sort of what we'll tell you the testing is pretty detailed time. We we've noted no findings when it comes to compliance with financial statements or government auditing. Under the similar concept two pages over, you'll see our letterhead again. This is if there are any material weaknesses, significant deficiencies over federal funds. Once again, we found that didn't test every dollar a little over a million dollars of it. And I can say that from what we tested, we did not find any issues. So going from four findings to one finding to zero finding. Once again, y'all doing something right. I've got districts that will have five or six findings and they will have the same five or six findings six, seven years in a row. They do nothing to improve anything. Um that definitely was not
the impression I get from your district. When something is found, I think y'all take it very seriously and they want to correct it. They want to get it off. They check us. I want that gone by next year. So again though, that was very positive from the work that Sherry does and Logan does. That's definitely anytime you can say no no no finding infection it's it's a very positive thing. We will get over to the last couple of pages. Um we have no like I said we have no weaknesses deficiencies but we have what's called just other recommendations. These are small things we find during the audit process that in a lot of situations can be considered very minor. But KD states they want everything put in here because they take that information from all
the districts across the state put we actually have to do the spreadsheet for them. They combine all the district spreadsheets and they use that for training purposes. If they find that 70% of the districts are messed up on red book they do additional red book training. in mind that 50% are doing something else wrong. They they they they they kind of gear their training towards these results. So, some of these things I would consider be very minor, but they're required to be reported and that would be the first one was is your question about the inter fund transfers that is 2025-01 and that just states that we did note that transfers are being performed during the year and the uh budget is not always updated. So we do recommending that budgeting process be updated throughout
the year to to discuss those transfers. Uh number two are payroll employment contracts. We know we test 25 pay employees and we noted there were different employees where the contract had been signed have been returned. Um I think y'all already changed the process on how you are doing that. Um cash dispersements at the central office level. noted I think two checks where the u everything shows it looks like a legitimate invoice or payment. However, the person who received the funds did not have to authorize or sign off they received the the the item that was delivered and your procedure is to to sign off that they they received those items. So again not saying anything look like it wasn't a legitimate purchase just the the process of the approval was missing. There are some advertisements,
certain documents that have to be advertised in the newspaper. I think Logan wasn't familiar with that and we've discussed that. I've showed him where the list is and I'm I'm confident that that will be removed by next year's audit. Then deposit timeliness at the high school and the second street school. Um there's certain very specific criteria that Redbook gives on to the deposits she made daily or weekly. and we we did test a couple of months there and we noticed some that were later than the required date. Um that is at every every single audit we do for a school. We have that and from from I've had my daughters play sports before and you know the coach says I need $200 for that camp in three weeks. Some parents pay day one give them
the check. Some parents pay the last minute. That coach holds that stuff until all the kids have paid and then takes it to the secretary. the secretary might take the money that day, but it's not just the secretary's responsibility. It's the the coaches. It's the um the club leaders, club sponsors. It's not always even the secretary. The specifics on this Alison sent to Logan. So, any specifics on which ones they were Logan does have that I don't have which they were memorized, but I think it was a combination of both the secretary level and as well as the coach or sponsor level. Um, so again, that is beyond common with all the schools that we audit. Um, you will see it whether it's they just didn't make the time, they they forgot it was a
busy day, they walked it in the safe and forgot to take it at the end of the day. We got all kinds of excuses. But I've also had several cases, not several, I've had three different cases throughout my years where a secretary from the school was borrowing the cash and paying it back supposedly by the in the week, month, year, whatever case might be. So cash not being deposited daily can open you up to risk. So again, that's just an other item. None of us at all amounts, but but again, it's just something we don't want to >> and we do require that all of these people have red book training. One thing we have implemented since is a red book acknowledgement form for all of our employees who will be handling any type of
money. Um, we were still hunting down about six of those, Mr. Kennedy, today. Um, we may be down to two at this point. I know that a couple of them that we were hunting down today got signed today. So, um, just acknowled not just receiving the training, but also acknowledging that they know what is expected of them. That way when this happens will we sign this form that say correct? >> Absolutely. >> Um I think there should be an extra letter there that was given and that basically this is a formality where you all just discuss anything that is where if I would put if we had trouble deal with management to report back to the board since you're not part of the audit. We had no problem. Superintendent Logan either one. This is our
second year doing this and both of them have always been very forthcoming and very helpful with the uh the audit process. uh if we had any problems completing the audit, if we have problems getting records, anything like that goes in that separate letter, we had no issues like that. I still have to issue the letter, but for you all, it was really just a a formality. There was no issues with anything. Um for somebody who loves looking at numbers, ask the quick version for people sitting in the crowd that play ball asleep. They got extremely long version. So, is there any questions, comments, discussion y'all want to have with anything? Just anything circle back to anything you want to throw in then I'll let out covered. Um, and I was looking at the last year's
audit and uh the budget comparisons and it um I think looked like we did a little better this year. >> Oh, absolutely. >> Yes. >> I think this is the first full year that Logan was really >> in the position. Um, so, so I can't speak for your prior finance director what the process was then, but I I know from talking with Logan that, um, the budget's not just a a formality to get done and then never look at again. I do feel like the budget's getting followed, reviewed from hearing your all's discussions for the expenses. I feel like the budget's probably getting reviewed. Only thing would be that the transfers potentially needs to be tweaked on the budget process. I think that would help us just to keep better tabs on >> what that
looks like. Absolutely. As the year progresses. >> Absolutely. Because sometimes the the the transfer is a percentage of expenses especially for food service dayare funds and we might budget a certain number the first of the year >> and if if food service does better or worse that we higher or lower. So that's mainly your opinion to come over to the general fund. So absolutely they can it can change some thought process or decisions. It can Any questions? >> I posted four or five minutes. I'm sorry. >> Thank you. >> Anything else? >> Thank you. >> You're all play. >> Thank you. >> If we have any follow-up questions. >> Absolutely. >> You have my email. I'm going to have my email if anybody wants to discuss something. Um, again, I found this >> change or
even emailing tomorrow. >> They might be the board members get really really bored and sit down with a glass of hot chocolate or coffee or wine or anything tonight cover to cover and you have questions. Please, please get get them to Sherry. She'll get questions to me. I thought I'm usually pretty quick to get back with emails. So, if you do have any questions and follow up, I will gladly take class and try to get the best answer I can. Thank you. >> Thank you. Thank you. Hello. Next item on the agenda is the superintendence contract. We spent a lot of time on this and I think um we're ready to take some action. So, is there a motion to approve the superintendent contract for 2026 through 2030? >> Move. >> Second. [laughter] >> And
we have a motion and a second. All in favor indicate by saying I >> The motion carries. Contract is renewed. Congratulations. Um, I have a prepared statement. If you will indulge me, I'll read that at this time. The board of education is proud to announce the contract renewal of Dr. Sherry Sadderly for an additional four-year term through June 30th, 2030. Since the beginning of her tenure, Dr. Sadderly has embraced our district with a passion that resonates through our hallways and classrooms. She engages with and celebrates our students, our staff, and our story traditions on a daily basis. Beyond her visible support at school events, she remains a steadfast champion of the inherent standards that define the Frankfurt Independent Community. Dr. Saturnly's dedication to this district is evident in everything she does. She has worked tirelessly
to implement processes across all aspects of our district that promote and ensure accountability and integrity at every level. In addition to her operational achievements, Dr. Sadderly's fiscal leadership has become firm and resolute. Under her guidance, the district has come into a position of long-term financial stability and strength, ensuring that our resources will continue to benefit the academic success of our students. During her administration, the district has been awarded nearly 2 million in competitive grant funding, and our bonding capacity continues to increase annually. The board is confident that under Dr. Satley's continued leadership, Frankfurt Independent Schools will reach new heights of excellence over the next four years. Congratulations. >> You're going to happy. >> Happy. Yeah. [laughter] Yeah. I mean, I'll I'll just say a few things. I mean, this district, my husband is here tonight,
um, in support. So, um, this district has embraced us after lifetime in another community. Um, and this is our home after four short years. And we wouldn't think of it as anything else. And our boys love it here. Um, most days, but they're boys and one's a teenager, so there you go. Um, but I have the best staff I think in the world. Um, I think that was evident from the financial piece. Um, but and the best board in the world. So, couldn't ask for anything else. We are Panthers through and through, right? >> Yes. [laughter] >> Thank you all. >> Welcome. >> Okay. Next on the agenda is superintendent's comments. >> Oh yeah, I'll be um I'll try to be brief. Um, >> of course, I know you all don't really love recognition, but
here you go again. School school board recognition month is January. Um, and I do want to go back about a year and remind everybody about Miss Great House's award um, last year as board member of the year from the Kentucky School Boards Association. Um, and just this is a thankless often thankless um, a lot more time put into job than most people would think. So, um they deserve a pat on the back and all the recognition. So, here you get recognition again. Um this our Kentucky Music Educators Association, we had two students participate in the district 7 middle school honors band. Um from left to right, we've got Rosemary Laura Quinte and Peyton Keaton. So, um they participated this past weekend in the middle school honors band. Um, I hope you've noticed just in social
media posts how robust our music programs are becoming under um Mr. Bartley and Miss Steel and Miss Smith's leadership at both buildings. Um, the biggest news in the last week is we hired a new football coach at Frankfurt High School. His name is Dwight Sutton. He comes to us from Mercer County, but that is not where he comes to us from originally. He comes to us originally from Florida, I think, by way of Kentucky Wesleyan College, Lindseay Wilson College, and some time at Eastern Kentucky University. He comes um he was an offensive coordinator at Mercer County under um the famous Craig East who played football for the University of Kentucky. So um he hit the ground running. He is teaching special education at Frankfurt High School and had his first workouts today. So um no
time wasted. our first middle school wrestling wins of the season this weekend. Um Ever Fall and Ryland Murphy both saw their first um middle school wins of the season this weekend. Super proud of them. Um just a highlight on some FHS community service. Miss Cobblin took her students to help organize donations in the community for our for families in the community last week. And other great things happening. We have been awarded, of course, you know, the Spark Grant in the amount of $75,000 to assist with vocational training for special education students. I didn't have enough room to type this, but I wanted to um pinpoint this piece. One of the pieces, one of the things we're paying for with that money, they're Paxton Patterson kits, Mr. Elmore, or do you want to real quick give
a little snippet of what those are? >> Yeah. So, so basically, um just trying to increase their exposure to what's available through CTE. So, we have funds available to buy hands-on kits. So it'll have like 10 lessons uh dealing with vetinarian, cosmetology, carpentry, plumbing, and so basically our special ed students will be the big focus, but all our students will have um you set up. So we're excited about that. We're going to go visit Spencer County Middle, which already has a lab on site. So uh we may be asking one of y'all to go with us, take a look at it. So we're excited about that. >> It will also trickle down to middle school as well. Um while the vocational piece is more for transition after high school, the Paxton and Patterson kits, the
CTE kits will be able to be used with our middle school students as well to kind of gain exposure to those possibilities of career pathways. Um we have also been awarded the department of libraries and archives grant for the digitization of our student records. Um another the grant would not fund digitization of personnel records but with the software we are receiving we are going to do that oursel in house. So we are going to make those file cabinets that became much less at 959 even less so that we can move them over here for storage and then we can work on what we're going to do with the 959 building. Um, I will be doing my midyear formative site visits in both schools this weekend next. Tomorrow at Second Street and next Tuesday at Frankfurt
High. I'll be spending the day there tomorrow with Miss Sams and her team and next Tuesday with Mr. Rogers Rogers and his team. Um, our all A region basketball tournament, girls and boys, is at LCA this week. Let me know if you plan on going to any of those games. Um, oh, I put ACT. Will you see that, Mr. Roder? I'm still stuck in the past. Frankfurt High will be giving their second practice SAT tomorrow. Um, so good luck to those students. And a highlight for Mr. Bill Rose and Miss Lauren Trailer. I don't know if you remember, Mr. Rogers participated in the very first cohort of the aspiring leaders program through OEC. You have to apply and be admitted. Um, Mr. Rose and Miss Taylor have both been accepted for the second cohort. And
it obviously worked out pretty well for Mr. Rogers who is now sitting as the principal at FHS. So, um, we hope it works out well for them in their future endeavors. Um, but we are excited for them to go through that process. And we are still waiting on three grant notifications right now. The CTE innovation grant will be awarded on or around January 20th. The read to achieve grant honor around February 5th. And I'm not sure of the date on the farm to school grant that's over $300,000. But we've got those three. We're waiting on those three notifications. So maybe even more grant money to add to that. >> Good. Okay. Thank you. Um and for board members, uh Dr. Serly, >> uh told me before we started the meeting that uh due to my
state board of what I what was board member of the year, uh this board gets free, uh registration for the KSB conference. >> So, >> [laughter] >> I'm trying to say it working. >> Yes. >> Yeah. If you'll let Catherine know >> uh if you plan to attend, that's um next month. >> Yes. 22. So, if you'll let Miss Pearl know if you plan on attending the conference and whether or not you need a hotel. >> Okay. >> Hey, that concludes our >> one more thing. you have a folder of documents um that I left at your seat for a later date. >> Okay. That concludes our business for the evening. Is there a motion to adjourn? >> Both. Okay. The motion's been made and seconded. And they really take that saying
