Mhm. >> Mhm. >> Because it's 6:00. I like to go ahead and call to order the regularly scheduled meeting of the Henderson County Board of Education on May 19th. Uh before we move into the agenda, I'd like to remind anybody that's here that wants to address this board for any matter that is not on the agenda, we will have time for you at a spot in the agenda. So, first item is Dr. Lawson. You have some folks that are going to come help us. >> I do. I'd like for the back row to come forward. Everyone else, please stand for our pledge. >> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >>
Thank you. Mr. Waller, the board. >> Um we have four of our student ambassadors here with us tonight. We all know this happens every month at our board meeting. We all know what a rigorous program this is. We all sincerely appreciate the way you represent our high school and our school district. So, I thought I'd ask them to help give a little bit of maybe introduce themselves, give a little bit about their high school experience, and then what you plan to >> Hi, I'm JT Mills and after tomorrow I will officially be a graduate of Henry Clay High School. I was in the Health Science program. This fall I will be attending the University of South Florida and majoring in nursing. And before I turn it over I just want to thank y'all for the
opportunity for allowing us and the faculty to come and for your support of the program itself. Hi, my name is Riley Moore. I am now a senior at HT HS and I'm also in the business pathway. I've also been playing soccer for the girls soccer team for the past 3 years. And my plan after high school is to major in finance at the University of South Florida. Hello, my name is Kaylee Kennedy. I'm a senior at HT HS and then I am part of the Health Science pathway and also the varsity cheer team. And then after high school I plan on attending University of Kentucky to study biology on a pre-med track. Hi, I'm Addie Cartly. I'm a senior in the Health Science pathway at HT HS and after high school I plan to attend
Transylvania University to study exercise science. Hi, my name is Ava Ziegler. I'm a senior at HT HS and I'm in the Computer Science pathway. I'm also president of SkillsUSA and after high school I'm undecided on where I want to go but I do know I want to major in urban planning and development. >> Their their future is bright and our high school is succeeding in large part because of the our students and the great job you have done throughout your academic careers. Thank you for the way you represent our schools. Give them a hand. >> Thank you. We appreciate all y'all do. We know it's a rigorous program and the efforts that you put forth in doing that and how you represent our school as well as our school district and our community. We thank
you so much for being here. Thank you. Next item on the agenda would be to approve the agenda that we received prior to the meeting. Do we have any questions, comments, concerns about the agenda? If not, I will entertain a motion to accept the agenda as presented. >> I move we accept it as presented. >> Mr. Alvis. So, second Mr. McGar. All those in favor signify by saying I, please. I vote unanimous. We're going to move through the agenda. Next item would be to uh go through our student and staff recognition. Sign it for Europe first, please. >> Yes, sir. All right. Let's get organized here. First up tonight, we would like to recognize Jefferson Elementary student Jaya Gilbert for being selected as Judge's Scholar. Miss Courtney, if you would like to come forward and
Jaya, if you would like to go over here and join Dr. Lawson. Tonight is truly an honor to recognize a student who represents the very heart of Jefferson Elementary. Jaya Gilbert was chosen as Jefferson's Judge's Scholar, not simply because of her accomplishments, but because of the way she carries herself every single day. She's kind, humble, hard working, and full of genuine school spirit. Jaya is the kind of student every school hopes for because she makes the people around her better simply by being herself. Jaya has a quiet spirit, but her kindness and character shine brightly in everything that does. She's genuine, respectful, and the kind of student who celebrates others just as much as herself. One of her classmates shared, "This girl treats everyone with positivity and respect. I think she is the best, and
I'm not just saying that because she's my friend. It's because she's a true leader and always does the right thing even when no one is watching." Jaya truly loves Jefferson Elementary. She has incredible school spirit and takes pride in being a Jefferson Jaguar. Whether she's cheering on her classmates, representing our school as a Jeffy ambassador, performing in Finding Nemo Jr., or competing with our STLP team, Jaya always gives her whole heart to our school community. She shows up with positivity, humility, and a genuine love for the people around her. She roots for others, encourages those around her, and helps make Jefferson a better place simply by being here. You will not meet a more determined student than Jaya. She approaches every challenge with perseverance, gives her best effort in all that she does, and continues
pushing forward even when things are difficult. One of her classmates described her perfectly by saying, "She's a perfect example of a leader because she works hard in every subject and never lets challenges stop her." Jaya is also the daughter of two incredible parents, Jonathan and Gayla Gilbert, who are always there supporting her in all that she does, alongside many loving family members who continually encourage and cheer her on. It's truly been an honor and privilege to watch Jaya grow from kindergarten through fifth grade as a Jefferson Jaguar. I cannot think of a better student or human being to represent Jefferson as our judges scholar. She represents everything we hope our Jaguars will become, and she will always be a Jaguar for life. >> Jaya, those are very high marks, um as Courtney mentioned there. So,
congratulations on being the Judge's Scholar. That's quite an honor. Would you mind telling everyone your favorite part about being the Judge's Scholar? >> My favorite part about being the Judge's Scholar is that I got to learn about my community. >> And Jaya, winning an award like this, obviously you couldn't do this by yourself. So, I think we have your teacher here, we have your principal here, and do you have some family here? Could we ask all those folks to come up here and we'll take a picture together? Who's that guy? He's got his He said, "I'm here." All right, there we go. We'll put you right here in the center, Jaya. We'll get your family. Congratulations, Jaya. >> Next on our list tonight, we would like to recognize Kenley Arnett, a student at Henderson County
High School, for her outstanding artwork submission to the Kentucky School Board Association Student Banner Design Showcase. This year's conference theme, Built to Last, invited students across Kentucky to create artwork that reflects strength, resilience, and lasting impact of public education. Kenley's creative design was selected to be featured in the conference's digital gallery. Joining Kenley tonight is her art teacher, Kaylee Haywood. We congratulate both Kinley and Ms. Haywood on this wonderful achievement and thank them for representing Henderson County schools so well. >> Quickly here, uh so Kinley, congratulations and I love your slogan built to last. That's actually foundational here in Henderson County schools, how we want to be built to last, do things the right way for a long long period of time. And your design is fantastic. Would you tell us a little bit about
how you come about this? >> Well, um when I was coming up with an idea, I was like really lost for a long time and I started pretty late compared to everybody else, as I do on most of my assignments with her. But like as looking at everybody else's assignments, I saw them doing like different architectures and like bridges and things like that. And I don't know, to me it just it wasn't as fun as I wanted it to be. And whenever I thought of building as a little kid, I loved Legos and building all types of things like that. So I immediately thought of Legos build and you keep them on display and they're there forever and it's a constant memory. So that's exactly what I wanted to make. >> Fantastic. As her teacher,
do you want to tell us a little bit about Kinley? >> Sure. I could brag on this girl forever. Um I'll be nice. She thought I was going to come over here and be mean. But she's great. This is her first year in our self program, second year in the art program. Um she's a junior. She um has been kind of my right hand this year. All of our seniors have left and she's kind of popped into that spot. Um, but she's great. She's great. She takes on a lot of responsibility and she does start everything really late. And somehow somehow still cranks out stuff like this. Um, so she works well under pressure. But she's been an absolute joy to have in class and even more of a joy to have in our program.
>> Fantastic. And uh, do you have some family here that supports you? Could we have her grandma come up here? And we're going to get a picture. Ms. Morris, can we get a picture of everyone? Congratulations. >> Tonight we are proud to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of the North Middle School Cadet Basketball programs. We would like to congratulate the sixth grade Cadet Basketball team, the seventh grade Cadet Basketball team, and the seventh grade Lady Cadets along with their coaches on an incredible season filled with success and achievement. The seventh grade Lady Cadets earned both regional champion and conference champion titles this season, showcasing tremendous teamwork, dedication, and perseverance throughout the year. Sixth grade Cadets finished among the top five teams in the state at the Middle School State Basketball tournament, while the seventh grade Cadets
finished in the top 10 in the state for the second consecutive year. In addition, several coaches were recognized as code conference and regional coaches of the year for their leadership and commitment to student athletes. These accomplishments are a testament to the hard work of our student athletes, coaches, families, and supporters, we congratulate all of our cadets on representing Henderson County schools with pride, excellence, and sportsmanship. Give it up for North Middle School Cadet Basketball program. All right, we're going to They Mr. Roberts, you want to say anything? >> Do we have any of our Do we have any of our basketball team Do we have any of our athletes here? Okay. >> No, they were They were scheduled for last month, but But they they couldn't make it. >> Got you. I know Mr. Roberts
is proud of the progress there at North Middle School, and our extracurriculars are such an important part of that. Tell us a little about the team and success. >> Uh so, our girls' program has been very successful over the years with Coach Corbett and Coach Chelsea Stone. They built a program that is is built to last there. They were runners-up in eighth grade this year, and they were conference champs in seventh grade. They were both conference coaches of the year for seventh grade, and then our sixth grade, seventh grade, and eighth grade boys' basketball teams all finished as conference champions for the year. Um sixth grade finished in the top eight in the state, and seventh grade finished in the top 10. They had two top 10 finishes over the last 2 years, and those
coaching staffs were chosen as conference coaches of the year, as well. So. They they've built a really good program. So. >> Thank you, Mr. Roberts. Proud of those cadets. Tonight, we are proud to recognize North Middle School STLP team for an extraordinary achievement, earning a state championship in the "You Belong, Attendance Matters" commercial contest. In just their first year as an STLP team, these outstanding cadets demonstrated incredible creativity, collaboration, and leadership by creating an award-winning project that captured the importance of attendance and belonging in school communities. Their hard work and dedication led them to bring home a state championship and represent North Middle School with excellence on the state level. We would also like to recognize and thank their sponsor, Sue Susan Overton, for her leadership and support throughout the project. In addition, a special
thank you goes to Stephen Johnson for his filming expertise and attendant assistance in helping bring the students' vision to life. This accomplishment reflects the talent, confidence, and determination of our cadets and is a true example of what it means to continue leveling up. We congratulate this outstanding group of young men for representing Henderson County Schools with creativity, leadership, and excellence. >> We could have that group come on up here. Meet Mr. Roberts and I. Mr. Smith's going to give you a Pursuing Excellence medal. We'll have Miss Overton up as well. Get you in here, Miss Overton. Hey, before So, I wanted to tell you all I'm excited to hear Miss Overton and Mr. Roberts talk about this, but a state champion, that's a huge deal to accomplish something like that. And this group represented not
just North Middle School, but Henderson County Schools. So, I get a an email from the Commissioner of Education that says that we're in the top two. And then uh maybe it was a few days later I'm over at North Middle School and I'll tell you this, everybody in that building had up the video watching that and you didn't you could not have had anybody who was cheering you on more than Mr. Roberts and the team there at North Middle and when you all won that state championship I thought we're going to have to replace the roof of that building. Because your whole staff all this everyone that was there was so proud of you. Mr. Roberts tell us a little about that. >> So um this built to last theme is kind of catching on
for tonight's meeting but I told Dr. Lawson and Mr. Rush throughout the year that my year is kind of like seems like it slowed down on me a little bit but it's only slowed down on me because leadership and students that step up like these guys have done and and staff members like Miss Overton that have really really taken on the charge and kind of we've built that leadership up within the school. I got to brag on our eighth grade students the other day at promotion and about all the the different initiatives and all the student led uh initiatives that they had throughout the year and how our eighth graders truly developed from those shy timid little sixth graders coming in to the outstanding leaders that they became. And for them to get to walk
across the stage at Rap Arena and be crowned state champions that's next level that's something special. So >> So there were five kids that just kind of rose through the broadcasting class that I was so honored to teach um the fall and in the spring. So, this is Austin Scheffer, Nathan Miller, and Croye Smith. And um it was about November, I think, whenever I got the email through KDE talking about doing a commercial contest. And I told them I said, "Let's Let's do it. Let's try." And it was about attendance matters. And so, we ran with Mr. Robertson's idea of if everybody belongs, then everybody wants to attend. And so, that was the um theme that we went with. And these guys just did amazing from the very beginning. Um Austin is the kind of
kid who you can just say something to and he takes off and runs with it. And I just really saw him develop as a leader. Nathan is kind of one of those outliers who just like jumped right in and just did amazing. And um he was always the one who was like, "I'll do it. If nobody else wants to do it, I'll do it." Then we have Croye. And at the beginning of the class, he said, "I never want to be on camera." And I said, "Honey, there are lots of jobs that do not require you to be in front of the camera." Well, then I found out that he has a speech impediment. So, it made perfect sense. And then one day he comes to me and he says, "I'm going to be on
the camera." So, I said, "Well, let me get the camera." And he got on the camera and as I'm holding the iPad, no problem whatsoever. And it's It's just those little moments whenever they have the courage to do something different, step out of their comfort zone, and just work really hard. And I was just so glad to be able to see that. >> Can Can we play it here? Overton says, "Play it here." Let's do it. Congratulations, man. Congratulations to you all. And listen, so before we get the picture, can we get I think I saw some family members here. Can we get So, every time this happens, it requires the support and partnership of families, school, teachers, principals, everybody. So, if we get all those families to come up, we'll get a group picture.
We'll put these guys and Miss Overton and Mr. Roberts here. Y'all will come on up and we'll get a group picture. I think there's some proud parents. Yeah. >> Congratulations again. >> That concludes our staff and student recognition, Dr. Lawson. I'm going to say it again that this is the best part of any meeting when we see the success, results, and what our our youngsters do, and what our what our teachers, and what our support folks do. Uh it's just amazing. And it it's reason why we do what we do. And I appreciate it so much. We have some other items if you folks want to stick around, we'll go through it. If not, you're more than welcome to leave. Got something that you'd like to do, we appreciate you being here. Go ahead and
do it. >> Yeah, y'all can leave. >> Thank you for being here. We appreciate what y'all do. Next item on our agenda would be the public participation. Uh is there anybody here? Did we have anybody fill out a form? Okay. Next item would be to approve minutes from their April 20th regularly scheduled meeting. We received the minutes prior to the meeting. Is there any changes or concerns about the meeting or minutes? If not, I'd entertain a motion to accept the minutes as presented. Have motion, Mr. Alvis. Second, Mr. McGar. All those in favor signify by saying I, please. I vote unanimous. Next item would be the uh con- construction manager report, Mr. Thompson. >> Yes, sir. Um I'm here for you this evening. Um So, at East Heights, currently, uh we have all of the
brick has been completed on the outside, with the exception of the mechanical room on the backside. Drywall has been completed with the exception of the data room upstairs. Ceiling grid has been installed. Windows are complete with the exception of the entrance area and all ceramic tile has been installed. Future work, a lot's going to happen over the summer. Um we're going to look at installing all of the doors, the case work, the paint finishes, ceiling tile, uh restroom partitions, signage, uh flooring, restroom fixtures, finish uh finish the lighting, the fire alarm system, internet connections, and final paint. They will start laying floor tile I'm hoping towards the end of the week. They have three rooms prepped and they'll start laying floor tile this week. I anticipate us Anticipate's a big word. I hope to be
moved in not fully, but be moved in boxes in rooms by July 1 is the hope in what we've currently got done. Uh just have all boxes moved in, teachers ready to set up classrooms by July 1. Correct. We are currently running about a month behind, but if we can push hard this summer, we can potentially be 4 months ahead by the time we start out. So then with South Middle School, uh they have completed all of the drilling on the football field. They're working on the all the lateral lines and the connections there. Uh future work, they're still working on all the fire rough ins, all the HVAC rough ins, setting classroom units. They will They have started drilling, I think, today or will start by the end of the week up on what
we call the soccer field. Um once again, they need to finish the vaults and the laterals, the geothermal in the upper upper field, the lights, and what little remaining demo is left. In the culinary, uh they have completed all the fiberglass reinforcement panels, uh exhaust duct work, stainless panels, first coat of paint, fire protection in the storage room, and ceiling grid. Happening in the next month and a half, they'll be installing all the casework, uh doors and hardware, set all the plumbing fixtures, final paint coat, and then they will start paving in the parking lots in the in the bus lane uh will be later this summer, but they're going to start in the back parking lot. They marked it out today, so we're hoping hopefully next week they're going to start mobilizing and bringing
equipment in to help repave a portion of the back parking lot. >> Any questions, Mr. Thompson, with regards to construction projects that are going on at the various places? >> I think it's wonderful. >> Yes, it is. Going good, and we appreciate it. Next item would be some change orders. You have uh three different areas of change orders. If you could uh move through each of the five that you have in each of those, and uh we'll we'll deal with them all at once. If you'll explain them >> Yes, sir. >> about those change orders, please uh uh ask Mr. Thompson after he goes through those five. >> Yes, sir. First are the um change orders for BG24-164 for East Heights. Change order 2331 and 53 are for a door swing uh that we had
to change due to code that was in the hallway that comes out of the back of the office. It was swinging out into the hall, and therefore was blocking a egress. If that door was to open, it would block egress of students. So, then we ended up having to set that back. Um and then 13-1 is casework around the install of the um of the uh sinks in the classroom. And then change order 14-5 is electrical feed. Uh we weren't really for sure when we started how the electrical feed ran from the main switch gear over to the intermediate pod, main office, and maintenance center, but we found out that it moved through that west pod, and so we had to do do some re-engineering of moving that main electrical line around. So, asking for
your consideration for BG24-164 to approve change order 2-3, 3-1, 5-3, 13-1, and 14-5. >> Any questions about those? Dr. Lawson. >> If there are no questions, I'd request the board approve the change orders for BG 24-164 as presented by Mr. Thompson. >> Our superintendent's recommendation, entertain a motion. >> I move that we accept that. >> I have a motion, Mr. Alvis. Second. >> Second. >> Mr. Smith, all those in favor signify by saying I, please. >> I. Vote unanimous. >> All right, the next is for BG25-25, the South Middle School project. Um, change order 1-1 is when we got in there, uh, we had to make some decisions. We They thought that we had more space, um, above the ceiling than what we did, so we had to make some decisions. And so we're, uh,
change order 1-1 is about putting some bulkheads in, um, around some of the current casework and doors. Um, then 5-2 is a ceiling for those bulkheads. 6-1, um, we had carpet, uh, we called out they called out tile in the counselor's office, and we wanted carpet, so that's a change from tile to carpet. Um, then 9-1 is a geothermal rework on the football field. We had a setback of 5 ft on either side, um, of the water main that runs across the football field, and probably probably uh, feeds Mr. Waller's house, so we didn't want to do anything to jeopardize his water consumption. Uh so the water department came out and said you need a 15-ft set aside. So then we had to go back together and work with water department to create a 15-ft
set aside. So that caused a little bit of different casing work. Um or geothermal rework. And then uh changing up a mixing valve on the geothermal. So ask for your consideration to approve um um change orders for BG 25-225, change order 11, 526191961. >> Any questions, Mr. Thompson, with regards to these changes? Dr. Lawson? >> I'll defer. >> We accept those. How about letting him get a recommendation? >> Perfect. Thank you, Mr. Alvis. Well, I would request the board approve change orders for BG 25-225 for the South Middle School HVAC renovation project as presented by Mr. Thompson. >> He must be smelling them cinnamon rolls over there. You're close to the kitchen. You can smell I got a I got a motion. I got a motion from Mr. Alvis. Second from Mr. McGarr. All those
in favor signify by saying aye, please. Aye. Vote unanimous. >> All right. Last one, Mr. Alvis, because he's been around us most of the most of the morning seeing how uh swiftly and efficiently we move with a lot of things. And so And we >> I don't want to slow it down. >> On on South Middle School it's out of the steak eating elephant. >> E- exactly. >> One bite at a time. >> Yep. Um the next is for BG 25-430, culinary renovation. It's change order two. When they got in there and we don't know why there was never a shutoff valve uh put to isolate that Tech 100 Hall. There's not you have to literally shut off all the water to the school to shut down that portion of the building. Um so in
a pinch uh we had to give them the go ahead to put a shutoff valve. So if something ever happens down in that CT unit, we can isolate it and not have to shut the building down. So, change order two is the installation of a shutoff valve for the CTE 100 hall. So, we're asking for your consideration to approve BG 25-430 change order number two this evening. >> Makes perfect sense. Any questions with regards to that? Dr. Lawson. >> If there are no questions, I'd request the board approve change order two for BG 25-430 change order two as presented by Mr. Thompson. >> Heard superintendent's recommendation. Have motion Mr. Alvis. And a second from Mr. Smith. All those in favor signify by saying I, please. >> I vote unanimous. Thank you so much. Appreciate it.
We've got a lot going on in construction in the business. Takes a lot of time. And there's revelations every day. We appreciate what you do, Chad. Thank you. There's a lot going on. Dr. Lawson's need your plan update. >> Yes, sir. Um every other month we update on the progress of our strategic plan. Uh earlier we um discussed the capstone project, and much of that is lined with our strategic plan. So, tonight, Mr. Robin, if you'll click to the next slide, there is our strategic plan. Those are our five-year goals. We are actually in year five of this plan, and it's working well. Uh I think it's something that we can keep with principally, and then in the coming years we'll form some committees, and we'll continue to kind of look and see how we're
doing and how we might want to uh um innovate, but right now our strategic plan is working well. Next slide, Mr. Robin. And so, for our first part here, as you know, our strategic plan is in four columns: students, staff, um parents and community, then operations. So, for this part of the strategic plan update, we're focusing on the student section. It's the perfect time of year. Obviously, that's a big time because we have graduation for Henderson County High School on Wednesday night and we have graduation for Central Academy on Thursday night. And those are just kind of the capstone experience of all the preparation of all the years for our students in preparing them for life after high school. As we talked about earlier, cultivating a community where character matters is a core value and
as you can see there, we want to provide them with a good foundation of character where they're well-equipped with skills and tools for their next steps. Ms. Robin. So, Henderson County High School, we we are a earned a blue overall rating, which is the highest rating that a high school can accomplish and I always want to just make comment that we have all the students in Henderson County. When when one high school has all of the students, it is such a great accomplishment to reach the highest mark, that being the color code of blue this year. Henderson County High School ranks number one in post-secondary readiness among the 15 largest CTE districts in Kentucky. It's number one. That's important. We appreciate everybody at the high school's pursuit of excellence and of course, as we mentioned,
that really is a 12 and 13-year plan to accomplish something like that. At Henderson County High School, students earned 729 industry certifications, completed more than 3 400 hours of college credit and accumulated over 54,000 hours of work-based learning. 22 students were recognized as state winners. We recognized many of them at the at a board meeting. Um and they accomplished that in their career and technical educations. This is another acronym, but their CTSO is their career and technical student organization competitions. Ms. And so this is our I showed you all a picture of the board of this group earlier. These are our city ambassadors. Ms. Mortis has been such a champion for this program along with Miss Holly Blandford and I know there are there are others involved here, but this was an experience we created
for them a few weeks back and I love the picture of them in front of our core values. Again, time moves so quickly and we had an opportunity to hear about their great high school experience, how they loved learning about their town and it really was inspiring to think, you know, in the next 10 and 20 years they'll be the people carrying out these values in our school district and in our town. So, Miss Mortis, would you mind reading some testimonials from these students? >> Dr. Lawson, we did have the opportunity to sit down with 11 of the seniors and talk about their experience with Henderson County schools and then I asked them to submit just a few words about what they would have to say. So, the first one's from Bailey Moore. Henderson County
High School has prepared me by having blessing me with incredible opportunities that have prepared me for my future in so many ways. Through the school's outstanding CTE programs, I've gained hands-on experience, valuable career skills, and confidence in my abilities. And HCHS has also allowed me to grow through leadership roles, creative projects, and meaningful learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom. These opportunities have shaped me into a more responsible, driven, and well-rounded person and the lessons I have learned here will stay with me for a lifetime. Gabby Melvin shared, "Henderson County High School has prepared me by teaching me responsibility, communication, hands-on healthcare skills that will help me succeed in college and in my future career as an ultrasound technician. Through my classes, co-op experiences, and involvement in healthcare related activities, I have learned how
to work with others, manage my time, stay organized, and remain calm under pressure. The support from my teachers and the opportunities I have been given have helped me become more confident, motivated, and prepared me to achieve my goals after graduation. And then our final one there is from Lucy Whitfield. Henderson County High School has prepared me by giving me real-life work experience through the CTE program and co-op. They have also prepared me for college through advanced, AP, and dual credit courses. Lastly, it has been a caring and encouraging environment that has helped me thrive. And we did ask for a few words, and you see they they did definitely provide us with more than just a few words of their experience. >> Fantastic. And as I mentioned, we will have Henderson County High School graduation
on Wednesday and the Central Academy graduation on Thursday. There are two principals who were recently talking about that on WSON. To the right of that is our Hall of Fame winners for this year in all those content areas. So, a big part of our student part of our strategic plan in terms of our students is preparing them with those skills. Next slide, Mr. Robin. Here's our CTE signing day, connecting with community partners and industry, aligning our pathways, our children's education to their interest and to the needs of the industries in the community, creating a win-win scenario. The next part of this, it's timely because we moved our board meeting to this Tuesday night to accommodate our students so they could have the parade last night. The connection that our schools and these in our community
has is what makes us special. So, you can see as part of our strategic plan, we want to bridge the gap between students and the community through inclusive partnerships and then strengthen community pride through high-quality academic and extracurricular achievements. Next slide, Mr. Robin. This is our senior walk. If you look on the slide to the very right, that is Dr. Rob Carroll coming back to South Heights to cheer on those students from 1199. Also, you'll see up the stairs there in the center, those are the stairs at the new Jefferson. To the left there is Spotsville. I'm trying to see which school that is. Is that Niagara? Okay, that's Niagara. Um there in the bottom center. But our students and the staff and families, this means so much to them to have the students come
back and walk through those elementary schools and really just acknowledge those teachers and staff that helped them become the people that they are. And then here is a picture from the parade just last evening. Um I think I saw Mr. Smith and Mr. McGar both there. Um and I know that Mike, you've pulled a uh uh a boat through that thing before and many of you all have been involved in that. Miss Tracy and Mr. Alvis were both champions just like you we talked about earlier in representing our community. Um and so I think that speaks volumes that we moved the board meeting to tonight so we could do that last night. I'll tell you it also speaks volumes about the leadership of all the folks who organized that and the partnership with families to
to make all that happen and get all that done before the weather come in last night. Really folks planned well, they worked through it well, created those extraordinary opportunities. It's a great partnership with our downtown and it does build pride in our community and it builds a connection. These kids, these are memorable moments for these kids and families and in the coming years, we've been doing this now for a good number of years. It just helps build unity in our town. Helps build pride for our students in the community. And so I've mentioned this a couple times but the high school graduation is May 20th and Central Academy graduation is May 21st and that's our strategic plan update. >> Thank you, Dr. Lawson. Any questions with regards to your subject? Just a reminder, board meeting

student overnight trips. Dr. Lawson, you're on this one. >> Yes, sir. There are list of student overnight trips. Um many of those do not require board approval. But at 6C1, I would ask that you approve student overnight trip overnight trip requests. These are over 250 miles for two Henderson County High School FBLA students placed in the top three at the Kentucky State Leadership Conference and are asking permission to participate in the leadership workshops at the National Leadership Conference on June 26th through July 3rd, 2026 in San Antonio, Texas. And um It's just fantastic our students have this opportunity. I appreciate them getting this in and on such short notice. I would Mr. Waller, I request the board approve this student overnight trip to San Antonio for those students in FBLA. >> Quite an honor, though.

That is not quite unanimous. So, I'd entertain a motion to accept the consent agenda as presented, please. >> So, moved. >> Have motion, Mr. Alvis. >> Second, Mr. McGar and Tracy. I mean, it was exactly the same time. I, unanimous. I figured everybody said at the same time. And uh Dr. Lawson, you want to review the tentative budget for 2026-2027? >> Yes, sir, I would. Uh thank you for the opportunity. Uh I'm going to stand
in place of Mr. Stokes tonight. Um and and go over this. We are at the step in the budget process that is the tentative budget for the 2026-2027 school year. So, the tentative budget is the second step in the budgeting process. The final working budget will be approved in September. The definition of a tentative of tentative is a plan, schedule, or idea that is not yet finalized and is not definite. There are still some pieces of the puzzle that need to be finalized in the working budget such as a new property assessment and the year attendance and actual seek and transportation data from KDE. So, at this uh tentative budget though, kind of the uh main pieces here are the budget includes a 1% increase in base salary for employees. That would be an overarching
increase. Alongside that, we always do our four-year rotational pay study in which we're in uh the fourth year of. It also includes the increased cost for fuel, uh buses, and vehicles. Those have been addressed in this budget. This budget includes cost to continue our Henderson County Schools safety initiatives. The budget contains a 13.55% contingency for all operations and a 15.2 contingency by KDE's formula. This only includes general fund and uh child nutrition. And that is a summary of our tentative budget. >> Okay, we've all seen the uh tentative budget prior to this meeting. Had a chance to review it. Any questions with regards to anything on the tentative budget? >> Likely to change. >> That's right. So, I'll entertain a motion to accept the tentative budget as presented, please. >> So moved. >> Have a
motion, Mr. Alvis. >> Second, Mr. Smith. All those in favor signify by saying I, please. All right, votes unanimous. Going to review the treasurer's report also, Dr. Lawson? >> Yes, sir. On the treasurer's report for the month of April 2026, Henderson County Schools had receipts of $5,801,848 and expenditures of $9,052,747. This is a net decrease for the month in the amount of $3,250,899. >> Any questions? Dr. Lawson. >> If there are no questions, I'd request the board approve the treasurer's report. >> Superintendent's recommendation. >> So moved. >> Have motion Mr. Alvis, second Mr. McGar, all those in favor signify by saying I, please. >> I vote unanimous. Paid warrant report. >> Yes, sir. The warrant report for payments made between April 21st, 2026 and May 19, 2026 total $7,868,677.94. >> Any questions with regards to
the any of the bills that have been presented? Dr. Lawson. >> I'd request the board approve the paid warrant report. >> Heard superintendent's recommendation, entertain a motion. Mr. Alvis. >> I have motion. >> Second by Ms. Williams. >> All those in favor signify by saying I, please. >> I vote unanimous. Robin, would you let the record reflect that we've seen and reviewed personnel actions since the last meeting? And that we would unless anybody has anything else they'd like to discuss, entertain a You have >> Something you want to discuss? >> Thank you, Mr. Robin, for for the the goodies. They were good. Thank you so much. Can I entertain a motion to adjourn this meeting? >> So moved. >> Have a motion Ms. Williams, second Mr. Alvis, all those in favor. We're going to leave
anyway, so it doesn't matter. Thank you all for being here, appreciate your energy and efforts. Thank you so much. >> Question. >> Enjoy the rest of your day. >> Yeah.
