Well, the first time they weren't How we doing back here? Good evening. I'd like to welcome y'all to our regularly scheduled meeting of the Henderson County Board of Education, February 16th, 2026. Appreciate all of y'all being here and we'd like to go ahead and call that call this meeting to order. Dr. Lawson, folks like to see. >> Yes, sir. We do. If I could have our student ambassadors come forward and ask everyone to please stand. To the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for it stands one nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all. >> Before we move, let me make one comment if I could. Dr. If there's anybody in here that wants to address this board for any matter that's not on the agenda, if you would please
fill out a form in the back, give Miss Robin up here and uh somewhere in the agenda, we'll give you time to address the board for any matter that's not on the agenda. Thank the bar is high for this program. It's a very rigorous program. We're proud of the way they represent school district. So I'm going to ask them here and tell you a little about themselves, their high school experience and their plans for good evening everyone. My name is Sai. Uh I'm in the financial services pathway at the high school. I'm a senior. I'm a senior. I'm on the boys golf team. That's the sport I do. And plans going forward after high school. I plan to attend Western Kentucky University and major in finance. >> Hi, my name is Lucy Whitfield and I'm
a senior at Henderson County High School. I'm in the business pathway and I'm also on the Lady Kel Golf team. And after high school, I plan to either go to Transsylvania University or Lipcom University and major in marketing with an emphasis in hospitality and tourism. >> Hi, I'm Ali Reed. I'm a senior. Through high school, I've taken a variety of AP classes and was involved in many extracurricular activities clubs and organizations. I plan to go to Middle Tennessee State University and major in reporting industry with an emphasis in business. Hello, I'm Ally Keller. I'm a senior at Henderson County High School. I'm in the health science pathway and I plan on attending USI uh and my major will be nursing. We appreciate y'all being out here tonight. We appreciate everything you do to represent our
school as well as our community. I know it's a tough task, but we can tell you we're very well up to it. Thank you so much. Next item on the agenda would be to approve the agenda that we uh received tonight. If there is any questions or comments or concerns with the agenda, I'd entertain, unless there is, I'd entertain a motion to accept the agenda as presented. Have a motion. Mr. Alvis, >> second, Miss Williams. All those in favor signify by saying I. Williams. I votes unanimous. Thank >> Yes, sir. Um this evening um there are two groups of dedicated individuals uh in our community that we would like to recognize because without them not just on days with snow but days with rain, sunny days, road work that we could never be able to
get to school. With us this evening we have Mr. Nick Stallings from the county road department, Mr. Brian Williams from the city road department. And for the last month, they have honestly worked 24 hours a day with their crews to make sure that people can safely get where they need to go, but also so we can safely transport our students to school. There's not a lot of whole lot of things in these jobs. There's always problems, but we want to recognize both departments this evening for their tireless work over the last three weeks to be able to get us back in school and all of the hard work that their departments do. So, I'll present with you this evening, Mr. Nick Stallings and his crew and Brian Williams. I'd like to make I'd like to
make a comment, too, because you know the roads in our community, there's a bunch of them. I'm sure you all know that firsthand by now. But if you look at the surrounding communities, I mean, they're they've got roads, but I think we were back in school three or three, four days prior to even the Davis County school system and the Owensboro school system as well as all the surrounding counties. So what Chad said, I appreciate that and I I want on behalf of this board also say we appreciate what you did. I mean although we do have program set up where we can remote teach our kids, it it's not as effective know I've got two of them at home right now that as as the inperson teaching and for us to get back in
school as quick as we did it. says a lot for the amount of time, energy, and effort you folks put into it. We thank you so very much. >> Thank you, Mr. Waller. As you say, teamwork makes a dream work. In-person instruction is is what we know is best. And making all that happen requires a lot of team effort. I had some time today to uh sit down with Mr. Stallings and o over the time talk with both these folks, but some of Mr. Williams too and their desire, their ownership in our school district is just really something special that they work so hard to make sure that that our kids can have the services they need. And we want to be the first people to say we're so grateful for all you do. And
so, um, Mr. Williams, do you mind telling us just a little bit maybe about how that process works or about how your team goes and things like that? >> First off, I'd like to thank I'd like to thank the board of education. You guys are always a good partner to work with. U we don't mind at all helping you guys out. I'd like to just kind of give a credit to some of my staff. Um public works is 50 employees within the city departments and my maintenance staff. They take care of clearing all the parking lots and the sidewalks for all the city buildings so our employees can get to work. Um, and then also the garage staff, they were on hand for we came in at 2 o'clock in the afternoon on Saturday and
and we didn't leave until till around 10 p.m. on Sunday, the first night. So, we had mechanics there and we had a number of breakdowns, so we were we were busy the whole night. I want to thank the crews that went out on the on the trucks. They did a great job. I also want to thank the uh gas department and and HW, the water utility. they supplied some some crew workers and some equipment through the whole process. So, we haven't really had that before in the past, but it just shows that there's good uh teamwork throughout the city. I want to thank my office staff because they fielded hundreds of calls those two weeks. It was kind of an unusual event uh with the amount of snow uh the number of breakdowns we had
and then also the extreme cold for the long period of time. So, it was hard getting things open as quick as we normally do. Anyway, I just want to give credit to the staff we have. I think we've got a good team. As you know, sometimes when you work for the public, you can't make people happy all the time. So, it becomes difficult at times, but thank you very much. >> I think Mr. Sto give him a hand for the city. Had a chance to talk to Mr. Stallings today and I think he'll have similar sentiments. Yeah, thank you all board of education for uh teaching all the young kids out there and you know teaching them to do uh what they need to do and help them be uh you know good people in
society as they get older. Uh but my crew I've got we've got 30 guys out at 30 guys and girls at the road department. My road department is split up between parks, recycle and road department. Uh so up here I have one parks that's Misha and then the other other four road department Kenny, Tommy, Ricky, and then Bobby beside me, he's the road superintendent. Uh, but without them, you know, we wouldn't be a we wouldn't be a running machine. So, basically, you get in the car and you you push you you turn the key over, it starts. That's what these guys do with the with the some of them's got 20 years experience. This did nothing but pushing roads for the county. So, a lot of that goes a long way with trying to be
able to get your, you know, I always say a good leader. You don't have to have to lead your lead your team to fight. They'll fight for you. And that's what these guys do. So, um, they get out the sun up to sun down the whole entire time. They're they're pushing, they're pushing away, they're making sure the roads are safe, safe as we can make them. So, um, we, uh, you know, we started the same same as Brian did. We started around noon, one o'clock on Saturday, uh, push Saturday, push Sunday, and then, you know, by Sunday night, everything was a wash because you got back up Monday morning, everything like you hadn't touched anything again. So, we pushed through through the week uh during during sunlight to sun sun up to sun down. So,
um but again, I can't can't thank uh can't thank my my my folks enough. A lot of them couldn't make it tonight. They had our prior arrangements, but uh but again, we you know, we it it I can get up here and say, "Hey, you know, I did this. I did. I had a route because I'm not going to miss the fun of pushing snow." Uh but but the way we have the county split up is is 12 routes and then I'm the 13th route and then that's what we do to kind of split up the county. So um you know we try to do as effective as possible little little bit of deadheading. I mean you're essentially the only things we're going on a road without the plows down is a state road because
we go state roads get to our roads. So uh but these guys are what what's doing it. I mean they we got some people uh she's a she's a right hand uh she's a right-hand driver. So, she likes being uh she likes being there in the truck. She helps. Uh we got a couple routes that are really really narrow. We've got some turns that are hard to see. A few of our drivers take a buddy and and Misha's a buddy, so she takes care of a lot of those. And because you can't, you know, I mean, I don't know if you ever been a snow pile truck, but trying to maneuver the turns, you know, 2 o'clock in the afternoon, we everything's white. You can't tell where the ditches are. You can't tell where the
roads are at. Uh so, she's definitely definitely good. There's a couple of people that rides with them, but like I said, they had to do tonight. So again, I I don't I can't I can't thank them enough. >> Thanks, Nick. And then I think I cut Mr. Williams off just a little early. >> No, you're you're good. I forgot. We I just want to make sure everybody knows what a good sanitation department you have within the city. We held trash up one day and we started our route one day late and we worked through Saturday so we didn't miss trash at all where some of the other communities around they they canceled their trash pickup for the whole week. So when you see your trash guys, thank them because they do an excellent job and
it's a tough job out there. Just imagine we don't dealing those trash cans over those snow piles and things. It was tough. So anyway, thank you. >> We could squeeze in tight there. Get a picture. >> Thanks again you all. >> Thank you all very much. We appreciate It is love the bus month and uh along with the city and county and the maintenance department um big players in this terms of getting us to school uh was our bus drivers and our transportation department. So if uh our transportation department while I'm a few nice things about you. If y'all can head up there to Dr. Lawson. And as uh Mr. Waller said, u we went to school uh when others didn't. And safety is always our number one priority and not but and we want
to go to school when we can because we know inerson learning is is better than NI although we have a good NI plan. So February is love the bus month. Celebrates trusted yellow school bus and the professionals who safely deliver students to school each day. Tonight we would like to celebrate our transportation department and our bus drivers and monitors. Just one more thing. Uh our bus drivers did a little something different this time in the in the find a way to get to school mentality. They drove the routes and they did some really special things to to make sure and did some alternate things. So, um, they really dug in deep with the details, split the hairs, and our transportation director, Wes Alexander, has a few more things to say there. >> Before we get
to Wes, does anybody Miss Tracy today had a chance to see her and she was anxious to tell you all something? >> On behalf of our board, I would like to Thank you. And I'm gonna read a little bit because I'm not good at just flying off my hip. And Mr. Rush took a lot of words. So I want to thank you for safely transporting our students every day, but especially during this last snowstorm. Your dedication did not go unnoticed. I was told and Mr. just told you all that you all actually got out, drove routes and checked the roads and then contacted parents to let them know where their child will be picked up. Would it be a different location? So, I I personally when I heard that thought that was huge. Um, also
I would like to thank you for each and every day keeping our students safe and you are the first face that they see and the last face that they see in the afternoon. So, thank you so much for your dedication. We truly do appreciate your hard work. >> Thank you, Miss Tracy. >> Well, Miss Tracy, I think you you pretty much covered it all for me. Um, but I'm I'm joined here tonight with Miss Debbie Samples, Melissa Crawford, Brent O'Daniel, Chelsea Foster, Miss Jayla Johnson. Uh, they're all part of the transportation staff with us. Um, and they and they they did do that. They went out on their own. They checked the routes. They made sure that they could get where they needed to get and if they couldn't, they contacted the families and set
up a safe alternative meeting location so that we could get everybody to school um safely and in a timely manner. Um I think Miss Wolf, we asked her and Dr. Lawson and we had a extremely good attendance day that day and I was nervous about that and then I was, you know, just nervous in general about anything that could could go wrong. But these folks are professionals and they they're out there and and they look out for the children. They care and safety is their number one priority and they show it every day. You know, they always say the school bus is the was the internet before the internet and the farther back you went, the deeper in you got. Uh and that holds true. So these these folks look out for the students every
day and make sure that uh they get them to and from school and they're loved and cared for. I I just want to say that I know we appreciate our director because when we got ready to go out at the bus garage, the uh parking lot and everything was clear for us to get to our bus. You know, in years past, we've had to go out and be careful of fallen and stuff. Y'all guys did a great job, and I believe in giving credit where credit's due. So, I want Brian and the mechanics and you to know all of us appreciated it a whole lot. >> That's great to hear. Yeah. And and the mechanics that you they're they're on it every day and they're working hard. So, I'm just uh I'm proud to be
able to be a part of this team and work with these folks every day. >> Yeah, you guys nailed it. Thank you, Mr. Rush, Miss Tracy, Mr. Alexander, Miss Samples, for noticing, like you said, giving credit where credit is due. We have a fantastic transportation department. These are such purposeful people and we know learning is best in person but also so much more happens because you got them to school. Those kids who need their need to eat, those kids who need to be checked on, those kids who just need to be around a different set of adults. Um you all made it happen and we know you do it on the dayto-day but we're especially appreciative of what you made happen through some of these winter months. So if we could we're going to love
you more than just tonight that we're going to have a lot more stuff to to to come. But tonight, let's take a quick picture so we can get you a shout out on our Facebook and social media. Okay. Thanks again y'all. Give him a hand. Tonight we'd like to recognize Niagara Elementary School student Ruth Lawson for being selected as the judges scholar. Miss Holm, if you'd like to come forward and Ruth, if you'd like to join Dr. Lawson. >> I am proud to announce that Niagara's judges scholar is Ruth Lawson. Ruth was chosen for several reasons. First, for leadership. Ruth is a natural leader. She has taken advantage of many leadership opportunities at Niagara this year, including National Elementary Honors Society, where she serves as president, principal's council, Niagara News Crew, cheer, basketball, and cross
country. As a principal, I have seen firsthand her impressive leadership skills. Um, as she serves in the council, she feels comfortable leading with a microphone at our Niagara family reunions. And while this has been impressive, her real gift lies in presenting to classes to teach them about important strategies and school reminders. She's a natural teacher and she treats all students with respect and kindness as she answers their questions and interacts with them. For academic achievement, Ruth earns excellent grades in all subject areas. In fact, her most recent report card reflected all A's. This can only be accomplished through hard work and dedication. And then last year as a fourth grade student, she scored distinguished in all possible areas of reading, math, and science on KSA. For citizenship, Ruth is friendly and respectful. Um, as I
mentioned earlier, she has a gift of presenting and answering uh students questions uh with kindness, empathy, and respect. She truly cares about others and wants to be helpful to everyone. Mr. Wood, who is her classroom teacher, wanted to express his thoughts. He says Ruth is a sweet, kind-hearted person who focuses on the needs and feelings of others. When she sees another student in need of something, she is the first to volunteer to help. She is dedicated to her work and success, always asking how she can improve and be better. She understands what it takes to surpass her goals, and she takes the initiative to get there. She is a ray of sunshine in our classroom and school and spreads her light to everyone she meets. And I'm very proud to recognize Ruth Lawson. Before you
take that picture, you need to get everybody up there. >> Yeah. Well, uh, as as Ruth takes the support of a great mother to help you accomplish these things. And I'd like to know, it's a big deal to get to be the judges scholar. and you got to go to the fiscal court meeting and so would you tell us what was what's so far what has been the best part of being the judge's scholar >> probably whenever I got the award like in that picture I liked hearing them read it off and I felt really special felt really cool taking those pictures >> I'm so proud of Congratulations, Ruth. >> Tonight, we'd like to recognize North Middle School student Isabella Sutton for being selected as a judges scholar. Mr. Roberts, if you'd like to come
forward and Isabella, if you would like to join Dr. at this time. >> So, tonight it is my honor and my privilege to get to introduce everyone to Miss Isabella Sutton over there. Um, it does not matter. From art to archery to agg to GT health services, Isabella has navigated her own path at North Middle School, gaining cadet confidence along the way. She came in as a sixth grader. Uh she was a little shy, a little uh unassuming every once in a while, but she has managed to continue a level of excellence um that is unparalleled by all of our cadets in the building. Um she will is well on her way to a 4.0 uh in her three years at North Middle School. Um and she carries herself with her with class and her
own personal style. Um, I don't know uh that many other students enjoy a free dress day uh more than than Isabella uh as she has her own uh unique style. I don't know if fashion design is in her future. Uh but she she has um the world at her fingertips. She could go down any pathway u possible. Um she finds a way to shine in everything that she does. and her teachers rave about how she cares for everyone uh and is continually striving for being exceptional in everything that she does. Uh she has a huge leg up as she will go to Henderson County High School next year with what now is a 4.0. Uh she will have high school credits when she goes uh in her English one course. Uh as well as a
foundation in two career pathways as she is uh joined our health service class as well as our a class. Uh she's been gifted and talented um all three years at North Middle School and um just finds a way to excel in the arts and leadership. Isabella exemplifies our cadet expectations of caring, accountable, dependable, exceptional, timely, and safe every single day. And that is why she has been chosen as our judges scholar this year. So congratulations. So, Isabella, just like I asked Ruth, when I asked you, what is the best part or was the best part of being a judge scholar? For me, uh, the best part of being judges scholar was going up and being in physical court, finding out how to benefit our community, being beside the executive judge and the magisters. It was
really helpful for me to learn about how much the judges and everything affects how we live on in a everyday basis. >> Great point. >> And Isabella, to accomplish something like this, we know you have great principles, great teachers, great support. Um, it takes support of a great family. Do you have family here? >> Could we ask them to come up as well? We're going to put you right in the center. We'll kind of all just get around you. >> Congratulations, Isabella. Tonight we have a very special volunteer from East Heights Elementary that received an award. And to talk more about this volunteer, I'm going to introduce Melissa Walker, the family resource coordinator from East Heights. asked me to keep this short. And those of you that know me, that's hard. That's very hard, but
I promise to do that. Okay. Um Millie, you have quite a fan club here tonight. Um when I reached out to some people that you have worked with and that have been your leaders these fights, they didn't hesitate. I said, "We'll be there." And um a strong partnership is built with strong relationships. and these people that have come tonight um led Millie when she was at East Sights, Mrs. Swanson, Mrs. Gibson, uh those that worked with her, Denise is here, um Miss Courtney, Miss Wilson, and um we have staff here, Miss Ike, lots of staff that are here. some that work with her as well and some that have currently have students that receive feedbacks. Um, so it was my honor um to present Millie with the 2025 family resource youth service center bridges over
barriers best partner award for 2025. There are over 800 of us family resource coordinators in the state of Kentucky and every year we have the opportunity to nominate a best partner, individual best partner, a best nonprofit partner and a best company partner. And I nominated Millie for the best individual partner. and her nomination stood out as a testament to her extraordinary commitment, her love, and dedication. She was recognized at our fall conference in Lexington for a legacy of service that spans decades. And I do want to thank Mr. Thompson for taking time out of his day. He is our uh Fris district contact and he did come to Lexington and he was there with us as we presented that board to her at conference and Millie and I were both grateful for that. A veteran
educator, 36 years of experience, 30 of those years here in Henderson County. Millie was instrumental in establishing the East Heights Elementary weekend backpack program back in 2003 with Mrs. Golday who was here this evening. She was the family resource coordinator. Then she started she and Mrs. Swanson started this partnership and for over 20 years 20 years she's been the lead foreman of this initiative building a vital bridge from food and security to peace of mind for countless families. While this award bears Milliey's name, her mission has always been a partnership with her husband Dean. Together they support they're supported by their small but mighty church family at Trinity Lutheran. They have shopped, packed, and delivered food, snow, sleep, rain, parking under the portico every single week for two decades. That's over 800 weeks of grocery
runs. Sam's, Costco, Shway, Walmart, and believe me, Millie, she can find the best prices. She makes that money work. Um, because of their tireless devotion, more than 600 East Tight students have received an estimated 24,000 food bags. 24,000. I'm not aware of any school that has been blessed to have that partnership. Years ago, when I first started as a coordinator, a wise woman gave me a simple piece of advice. She said, "You need Millie." She's on the back row. She was right. But over time, I realized my need for Millie went far deeper than resources that she provided. I needed to witness her unwavering dedication. To see someone truly serve as the hands and feet of Jesus, her friendship to me and her example through these years became a catalyst for my own personal growth.
In truth, Millie was exactly what we all needed. For many of our students, receiving a food bag provides a profound sense of security and the quiet reassurance that they are loved rather than judged. Mrs. Nancy Gibson was right. We all needed her, but the children needed her most of all. I have simply been the one blessed enough to witness the fruits of Millie and Dean's labor through the smiles, the hugs, and the heartfelt gratitude of our students daily. For Millie, this has never been about accolades. She's not doesn't want this. This is not Millie. And um unfortunately she's been recognized three times in the last three months. I promise Millie this is it. Um but for her it truly is about sharing her love for Christ. While our community and our schools are full of
amazing people, I personally have not met anyone who can outshine Milliey's heart, her love for others, and her strong, steadfast dedication. When I reached out to people about coming tonight, every one of them said, "We'll be there immediately." And I quote from Mrs. Joe Swanson. Millie is an amazing person with a heart for loving her school, her community, and people. I would be honored to be there. So Millie, on behalf of the leaders, your former leaders, staff and families and students whose lives you have touched throughout the years, it's my privilege to recognize you again, our friend Millie, and to thank you once again for your unwavering dedication and your servant's heart. I can't think of anyone more deserving of this partnership award. You have been and always will be our East Heights Angel. Thank
you for loving all of us through the years, students and staff and students at East Heights. We love you. Hey, Miss Millie. As I as I give you this, I'm going to ask all those folks to come up tonight. I'm going to give you a chance to speak when they get here. But folks like folks like Miss Millie and you are the perfect example are why we have the core value of owning the outreach. You exemplify that core value. Folks like you are the reason that's a value in this district. Obviously, you've done this over a long period of time. Thank you for setting that example for us. Now, she said, "I know you don't like all this attention, but we're going to give you some more." I'm going to ask all those folks that
are here with Miss Millie to come on up. Let's get a Let's get the whole group of all those East Heights folks up here, the past and present. We get around her. >> Let's all get around Miss Millie. Then I'm going to ask those past principles just say a couple more words about Miss Millie. We're gonna have to get in there really tight. Yeah. Miss Swanson, I put you on the spot. >> You got it. Miss Swanson's got her notes. >> Yeah. Let's get >> All right, Miss Swanson, tell us about Miss Millie. >> I know I have to be prepared. Nothing has changed. Millie Lauder has been an incredible, steady, dependable force for students that teachers and families in the East Heights community for years. In the beginning, her master teacher quality. She was
an outstanding science teacher, provided solid instruction for class after class of students learning at East Heights. So you see all the work through the backpack program is is remarkable but even there was remarkable stuff before that. In addition she has long carried the mantle of mentorship for young teachers and even principles some that were rookies like myself. Later she took on the backpack program making sure that East Site's kids had food for the weekends. Her extreme generosity in time, knowledge, kindness, and spirit is just unrivaled. She is in a class of giving and altruism that is sacrificially and undeniably all her own, uniquely hers. >> Thank you, Miss Gibson. I'm sorry, Miss Swanson. And I'm going to put Miss Gibson on the spot here as well. I know there's been a lot said, but I
want to hear from you as well. >> There's just two other things that I can say. I mean, I could go all night, but there's two other remarkable things that Miss Lauder contributed to East Heights Hawks. One was she was our open response coach and when she started folks I want you to know that uh East Heights that set us on the path to greatness. We received our uh national school what's it called? >> Oops. uh Blue Ribbon School and we ranked we ranked very high um in the uh at that time it was our Kentucky state test. She also after she retired, she came she was one of our RTI teachers and she had the knack for really and convincing those fourth and fifth grade students that struggled in math to buckle down and
they did a phenomenal job. She moved many kids from novice to apprentice and apprentice to uh proficient and distinguished. I'm retired. Thank you, Millie, for all that you committed. >> Thank you, Miss Gibson. Yeah. Give him a hand. And lastly, tell us about earning this award or just words from someone you know that's done all these great things. >> No, it's not that I've done so many great things. I've worked with some great people and I've had some great people work with me. Um couldn't ask for better principles than Joe Swanson and Nancy Gibson. I you know anything I came up with it was like okay we'll try it. But and it it turned out all right. And then, you know, some of these other people I' I've worked with. Um Ana, she was one
of my my people that I worked with and and she does so very well. And then I know there's more of them all up and down here. And you can't believe how gratifying it is when a little kid looks at you and says, "Boy, I'm glad I got food for the weekend. You just can't understand that they don't have it. I knew this was going to happen. I had a little girl one time say when I I ran out of bubble gum and so I went out and bought a pack of B of gum and she said, "I've never in my life had a whole pack of gum." So what I do I do for them. Thank you. Let's all try to squeeze in and we'll get a picture. Thank you. >> Congratulations, Miss Millie.
I know I've said it several times, Dr. Lawson, this is the best part of our meetings when we're able to recognize our students, staff, community partners, and and somebody that's been involved in our school system as long as Miss Lauder has. It's just it's just special. We're going to continue to move along in the agenda, but those of you folks that uh don't want to stay around for the exciting part, you're more than welcome to leave because we're going to get into the more exciting part. I know we've got some things going on high school that folks, you folks that are here from the high school, as I said, I know you got things going on out there. need to go because that's a special night out there. So, we appreciate you being here. Thank
you so much for what you do and appreciate you coming out. All of it. Next item on the agenda would be recognition of anybody that wants to address the board. Nobody. Thank you. Next item would be to approve minutes from our special regular meeting from January 20th. We've received the meeting minutes prior to this meeting. Any questions or changes to the minutes that need to be done? We accepted have a motion, Mr. Alvis, that we accept the minutes as presented. Second, Mr. All those in favor signify by saying I please. I vote unanimous. Mr. Miller, I think you're next on the agenda with regards to Construction management report. >> How is everybody? >> Hey, how you doing? That's >> pretty good. I don't know how I'm supposed to follow up after that. That's pretty touching.
>> It is kind of rough, isn't it? >> That's good stuff right there. Um, so I'll be short and sweet as always. So, East Heights is obviously tracking along. Anybody who's driven by you can see the roof is going As far as inside, a lot of MP work going on, duck work going in. Basically, all your main HVAC systems going in. We'll be moving into probably the next two or three weeks there into some interior finishes. So, start seeing some paint, start seeing some ceiling grid, start seeing some drywall, things of that nature. Moving along well there to pick up that time we lost back at the beginning. Um, and then on South Middle, it's rolling along very well. Um we're about two to three months ahead in certain parts depending upon how you look
at the schedule. Had really good cooperation from the staff letting us get in and out of some areas that we really weren't supposed to touch until summer which helped us pick up a lot of time and will only make the summer schedule easier which I know will be easier on all of our lives as far as sweating to get done with some of that stuff. Um as far as on-site that's all I have. Um, I would like to give a shout out to both sets of staff at the schools though. It has been tremendously easy to work with everybody involved in both those school systems. So, I just wanted to bring that up. I don't say that very often, but I want to bring that up here. >> Thank you. Appreciate. I just want to
know if you got some of those guys heaters out there. >> I walk through there on a tour and I'm about frozen death. >> We do have it all set up now. It's ready to go. The tanks are sitting there now. says we need them. We don't need them now. >> Oh, we will in two weeks. I'm sure we'll meet him in a couple weeks. I'm sure they proud to have appreciate what you're doing. >> Thank you all. Anybody have any questions? >> Thank you, sir. Moving right along, Mr. Grace. >> Good evening, Dr. Dawson, board. Uh you have the uh report in front of you. I just want to add a few few things to that. Sip that was here earlier. He's one of our uh kind of ath athletic interns uh during the
day with his co-op experience. So again, wanted to give him another shout out. He he's tremendous with helping us during the day running errands, doing things, working on some financial stuff. So again, big shout out to Sai. Um wanted to add a couple things. We're u that wasn't on there that kind of caught my mind as I was sitting. Uh the Title N year, we're going to do our survey this year. We're currently in that. Adrien Cruz is taking that on for us in the department as an assistant. She's gotten that out to our eighth grade, 9th grade, 10th, and 11th grade. we have to get 60% uh feedback for that and it's the interest of what they might like to add to the plate of our already busy schedule. So again uh hopefully I'll
get those results and I'll pres present them at the uh our next meeting that we have our report. Uh fresh hot off the press. Our dance team I just got a text a second ago competed in Orlando. Thank you for allowing them to go to nationals. Third place. So tremendous uh outcome on that. Super. And then our cheer of course was a couple weeks back uh again they finished ninth in the varsity and fourth as the JV. So again another big shout out to our cheer program and our dance program. So uh archery again kind of go down just hit on a highlight. They won this weekend. That wasn't it was something the report came in. You know I put it in a week ago but they won. Uh and again we're going to host
the regionals this year. We were asked by KHAA if we would host because of our facilities and the things that we do well. And so again we're looking at March the 21st to the 28th. surveying the extra schools that are in our region and we will have that date for you guys as well. And ladies and gentlemen, uh, Colonel basketball, what else can I say about the girls and guys? The girls are rowing like normal, but the guys are still picking up from what we had last year, which was a tremendous year. Uh, we both clinched first place in the district, so we're automatically in the region. Girls will play next uh Wednesday evening at 6:30 at Webster County. So hopefully if you're available, we'd love to see you down there supporting in maybe a
nice sweater if you have one or your letter jacket from back when. So again, um boys will play on Thursday night the 26th. >> Fit me anymore. >> Oh, I guarantee it. He was you were a lot larger. I've seen those photos of playing baseball and football. So um but again, big shout out to them. Uh tremendous followup this week. We we're finishing up our season. Boys tonight, uh we're playing Muenberg County um again 6 and 7:30. So hopefully I'll get back in time to witness the another great game. Tomorrow night the girls have onsboro Catholic and then that's our final two home games going into the spring season. So kind of excited about that. It's been a really great year for athletics. ROC we're hosting the state rifle competition. I know that's in there,
but that's just something uh it's not a real great spectator sport when you talk to the people in it. Uh but it is something neat to see the dedication that they put into that. And and again with our volunteers, we have several community members uh and I don't want to miss any names, but again, we have community members that come in and support that program because of their expertise and their love of the sport. So again, thank you to all those people. Uh indoor track, again full-fledged, we got the state meet coming up, so there is an actual indoor state uh meet. Um and then again, swim, that's our newest uh team that'll be competing this Friday. Um a big shout out to the 4x100. They will be competing in Lexington for a chance to,
you know, bring home a state title. So again, uh, huge. And then wrestling just finished up this weekend with the girls regional. We had a state champ regional champion with Kayn Franks in her weight class. I'll keep the weight classes private just so that way we're not, you know, again, it's public, but I I'll be respectful of that. But our girls were third out of 27 teams at the region. So we're seeing that growth in year in and year out. So uh, we're getting there. Um again we had a second place with Evestas. Uh Miss Leslie with a third. Uh Kennedy Sony with a fourth and we had a qualifier. So we got five girls going to the state meet. And then we're hosting the boys regional this weekend along with uh academic team and
a lot of other things on campus. So really excited about that. Um if there's anything else that I've missed. So any questions? >> You don't have any questions. Mr. >> Grace. Well, again, so another proud program that we have at the Hendricks County High School is our marketplace. So, if you'll come out, uh you can call us and we'll get you in touch with Miss Marilyn Dorsy and her students. We have these for you can try them on, you can, you know, purchase on site. Just is who one of our partners uh brought this to us. And so, it's just a different flare. Shauna Evans and I sit down with them and said, "I want to go old school, you know, something that kind of brings back when my dad. I remember the photos of
my father and them." And I said, you know, hey, this is a little homage to those guys before us. So, but it is it's really nice. So, >> looks good. >> Thank you. Thank you. >> Anybody else? >> Yes. >> Well, thank you so much. And a big shout out to the people around me. I know Dr. Lawson, Mr. Thompson, Mr. Rush, Mr. Stokes, uh, Miss Thomas. I I can't do my job. And I'm just, you know, a servant, but I got great leadership that provides an example for what I need to be doing. And so, every day I'm growing and learning. So, again, thank you so much to all of you guys and ladies for everything you do to support us. So, thank you. >> Thank you, sir. Appreciate you being here. Next item
would be to review some student overnight trip information that was in the agenda. Dr. Lawson, you have any comments with regards to these? >> The overnight trips in your agenda are they meet the criteria for superintendent approval. So, I've approved those. These don't reach that 250 mile mark, which is what we have to have for the board approval. So, they're there for you. >> All right. We've all reviewed them. They were in the agenda. Next item would be Miss Casey Farmer Wolf. You're up. >> I can understand why. That's a good looking sweater. >> I know it's not surprising. >> So, I was sending my email, Miss Dorsey, but I'll stop. Um, so I am here tonight to amend the 2526 calendar. I know you have already looked at um the recommendation. So today was
actually our first makeup day. This was built into the calendar and so um so we were able to go ahead and proceed today, but our attendance in school today made up for our absence on January 21st. Um you can see we've taken six NI days and then um we took a snow day on January 30th which we will make up on Friday, March 13 and that was our second makeup day we had built into our calendar. So as of today that does get us up to date in regards to the amended 26 or 2526 calendar. >> Yes, Dr. >> Thank you, Miss Wolf. Really appreciate I know I think Joe think you're on that committee, our calendar committee. the way Miss Wolf leads our calendar. Um, as she said, six NI days and then the
the two snow days. We had those built in to make up. We're in a good position at Henderson County Schools in large part because of good leadership of Miss Wolf and that that committee and we we' heard all the the folks today on the roads and the busing and all it takes a lot of people working together to make this happen. So, uh, really appreciate all those that's put work into this. I think it gives us our our kids the best chance. So, with that, I'd request a motion to approve the calendar amendments. uh for the 2025 2026 academic calendar as presented by Mrs. Wolf >> heard superintendent's recommendation to entertain a motion to accept the recommendation as presented have a motion Mr. Second, Miss Williams. All those in favor signify by saying I please.
