007of Boulder Creek High School I am humbled to have watched these young adults grow and learn over the course of their four years at bchs each year of your high school experience was a new adventure with new rules and expectations as freshmen your year was cut short by a global pandemic where School became zoom in the blink of an eye as sophomores your year started slowly and included learning with masks and block schedules as Juniors School life started to return more normal with outdoor dances and fun finally the end of contact tracing halfway through the year as seniors your high school experience came close to full circle with the normalcy and school routine you hadn't experienced since the start of your freshman year your high school experience was like none other you had to adapt
008relearn and ensure your success with uncertainty around you but you made the most of it in spite of the challenges the world presented look how incredible you are I am so grateful and proud of each and every one of you I have learned from you your Ingenuity creativity kindness and I have witnessed your leadership dedication and drive you are a class that has learned that being together is important and Powerful as you have faced significant change devastating loss and abundant celebration congratulations graduates you have completed an important Milestone and as you cross the stage today completing this rite of passage you will have opened new doors new challenges opportunities possibilities and new learning that will shape the world around you this Milestone represents your academic achievements at bchs but it also represents the non-academic accomplishments

014pulled together to make a positive difference together you showed how you care about your community by contributing ten thousand dollars once again for the Make-A-Wish Foundation that is forty thousand dollars donated in the four years that you have been at bchs to support this cause absolutely extraordinary absolutely and together class of 2023 you earn Scholarships in the millions of dollars for your future actually over 15 million dollars together you make amazing things happen you class of 2023 show the Jaguars persevere create boldly and make a positive difference at bchs and Beyond today graduates it's your day to shine it's your day to stand in the spotlight and be recognized for how you have grown for all you have done and for all you can be as you take this leap from being a high school

016challenges such as trying to pass AP calculus or real life tribulations such as trying to find eggs at the grocery store or even worse trying to leave the school parking lot all at once these are all different scenarios yeah all very difficult tasks but we've pushed through and persevered to be where we are today we sit here in the stadium facing our next challenges that our next chapter in life will bring ready and willing to face them head on while we have shared some big events throughout the years the opportunities we've had at Boulder Creek have given us the chance to forge our own unique paths on our classes common Journey for graduating here today as we gain more Knowledge and Skills something that most likely impacted the route of our paths was the answer
017to that we were all asked at a young age what do you want to be when you grow up in elementary school we knew kids who wanted to be astronauts superheroes or the president in my case I wanted to be a princess as we grow up this question became stressful and came with the pressure of finding our interest in life early on and for many of us the answer to this question periodically changed our graduating class has become familiar with change like no other by adjusting to new grading system systems new ways of learning new friends new people new jobs maybe even a new car or two as change continues to occur in our lives and so does the answer to the question what do you want to be when you grow up I challenge
018you to focus more on who you want to be instead of what you want to be focus on your character first and surely your life's path will fall into place by focusing on building character traits such as self-discipline responsibility and integrity you are already halfway there in becoming success successful in your desired career one thing I'm sure we can all relate to is the stress of that 1159 canvas deadline especially when we knew that assignment was going to lock at 11 59. we all stayed up late maybe even past that time with pencils in our hands and eyes on the clock but look at you now you did it and at the end of the day everything fell into place and you developed habits and routines that helped you succeed throughout your high school experience

021like to introduce a mislation who will deliver the faculty address [Applause] thank you Chris Mrs Sutton colleagues parents and most of all students when Mrs Sutton asked me to speak at your graduation my heart actually skipped a beat my daughter asked if there would be a three second delay on the mic but then I thought I have a message to share that you haven't heard yet and I accepted my theme today is about gratitude when my mother and father got married they had a plan my mother would work and my father went to college on his GI Bill mom and dad did without for three years newlyweds who rarely saw one another savored one special dinner per month and sometimes only munched on popcorn and peanut butter for dinner the stories they told made it
022so sound so romantic mom knew nearly as much as my father did about civil engineering as she typed all of his papers they made it through to his graduation learning how they work together leaning on one another to meet their goal was powerful for me things did not always go their way but relying on this memory of building themselves from nothing gave them the confidence they could do it again if need be for my parents the gratitude for all their struggles was unmistakable through their hardships they grew stronger your road may be mapped out like my parents or maybe you have yet to make a decision about your future no matter there will be bumps in your road though but persevere through them no matter what hardships no matter what gets you down pick yourself
023back up again be grateful that you have the education required to be able to move forward in any direction you desire be grateful that you experience such great teachers at Boulder Creek High School to help you along your way I too am grateful for the opportunity to have been your teacher you have a limitless future ahead of you go out into the world with the confidence to accomplish the goals you set you are my future and I am grateful for the chance to help you grow into your adulthood I appreciate all of you I believe in you congratulations you are on your way this is your beginning and remember I love you be safe and always make good decisions [Applause] and now please welcome Brooke Alvarez student body president class of 2023 wow we did
024it as I stand up here and think back to January when I was writing this I can only remember how lost I was on what to write I thought to myself how am I going to say goodbye to my classmates best friends teachers and favorite staff members after rewriting the speech way too many times and researching others for inspiration I came across one thing that really stuck with me all of them included everything we would lose from leaving High School I mean we are going to lose some important memories like changing the routine we have followed for the past four years and not seeing our best friends every day or running through the gate at exactly 7 30 when Todd is yelling at you to run faster although most of those are true that is
025not what I'm here to leave you with today three months from now we will all be in different positions whether that be heading straight to work a university or Community College trade school or taking some more time to decide all of these options are okay and that's why this is such a special moment we have finally gotten to the time where we are no longer comparing ourselves to the 500 other students in our graduating class we all have the chance to find what we love and I beg you to not stop trying until you have class of 2023 this is our time and it may seem normal right now but as soon as you walk across this stage you have stepped into a new chapter of your life as I conclude this speech all I
