We'd like to welcome everybody to McCory County Board of Education regular board meeting February 24th, 2026 5:30 p.m. Central office. Call to order and roll call. here. >> Chair is here. Approve the agenda and the agenda. We need a motion and a second. >> I'll make a motion we approve the agenda and the >> second motion and second. Cody, >> I chair Braxton. >> I at this time communications prayer by Mr. Braxton Ke. Father, we thank you now in the name of Jesus. We thank you that the word declares that you're a God of all comfort. We thank you, Lord, that you're never present help in time of need. And Lord, we just pray over our students, over our staff, and pray over our community. Father, that you would lead God and direct our lives.
Lord, we thank you for your goodness and your mercy in the name of Jesus. Amen. To the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Superintendent Communications. Dr. This time we have some students to recognize. We have late Raiders wrestling team coached by Dustin Bowens. come up. We can have these individuals qualify for the state tournament. Waters, Brook Smons, Perry, Elissa. Okay. Kaitlin Phillips, Bailey Thompson, One, two, three. >> Um, this week we've been all over the state competing and um we took 11 girls to the regional tournament and we seven that made it out to the state tournament. So that's a good congratulations. >> And we recognize February as CTE's recognition month, the C program at Central
High School. I know we've got uh Miss Barnett here. You like to come up, Miss Barnett? We've got some of your CTE uh here and you want to highlight maybe their programs and I do set this here. I wanted to take a minute first and u before we get going with our students, I wanted to take a moment to recognize our CTE staff as well. Um and Dr. Shepard here leads our CTE program. It's a big job in the sense of EOP testing, industry certification testing, lining out all of our pathways and supporting our kids to make sure they get through all of them. So, super thankful to the work that she does, but also what our teachers do in their pathways um to create career uh exploration activities for you guys, get you connected
to jobs, internships, and really set up on what your future is going to be. So, I feel like we're blessed with one heck of a staff and it shows out in our numbers, too. So, this year when our accountability results came out, Mccur Central High School was in the top 5% of schools in the state of Kentucky in postsecary readiness. And it's because of the work that all of those folks do. So, if we can bring all of our CTE teachers and crew up, I'd like to get a picture, please. We're gonna bring our kids up in just a moment. two. One, two, three cheese and one, two, three, cheese. And I think you all are in our newspaper this week. This is our CT issue. >> I think we had FSA in there and
then our whole crew is in there. So, round of applause for And we also wanted to take a minute too because I'm super thankful for what our teachers do for our programs but the work that our students do for that as well. So each of our CTE teachers had a student um or two that they wanted to take some time to recognize today too. So we are going to start with our engineering program. Mr. Travis Smith leads engineering. Uh and while he's on his way up here got a interesting phone call from a colonel in the Air Force last night who's got some projects he wants to work through with drone activity with him this year. So that happened at our technology convention this summer. Was that what it was called? NT. >> Yeah. So
>> super excited about that and I'll let you share recognize. >> So I actually have two I was want to recognize. Um, both these are seniors that have been uh pretty much the foundation of our TSA group and have really shown out at both the regional and the state competitions for us as well as in schools. Uh, the first one of which is going to be Aaron Gilre. If you guys don't know Aaron, uh he's really soft spoken, but he runs our lab like a machine, or at least as best as we can get to machine. >> I've got one more. Uh the second one I'd like to recognize up here is actually one of our first recipients for um for state recognition at for our dragster competition. He's been a really good focal piece
for TSA. He's actually our president this year. He's done a lot with not only just his own competitions, but helping out with others and I felt like he deserved some recognition for that. So that would be Colton St. like to take a minute to bring our down Tiffany Stevens. Uh she is the head of our health science program at Mccree Central and three we all go through that one. Um so the student that it's really hard to select just one but Jackson Wimber and he is the when you think of health science student this is the student that you want because he excels in everything that he does as far as health science and he's in our phabbotomy he is in the EMT through the dual credit and he is state in sports medicine and
he's very active in our HOSA. It's he's always there, the always the first one to open the door and always the last one to walk in for our full bottom cabinets to see if anybody needs help. So, let's go see. >> There's probably more stands out. Um, Mr. Cole Burke represents our JAG program at Recruit Central. This is year two for Colberg. >> All right. So, the award I would like to give out uh this student, he uh is someone that you think of that that carries himself very well. He's very well known in the public. Um when he goes out, you know, he's going to be successful. He leads himself very well, carries himself uh in a certain kind of way. Very mature for his age. Um today we went up to Lex to
compete in our state competition. Uh we had a girl fall out, get sick. So I called on him, stepped up to the plate. Um anytime that I need help, anytime that we have an event, planning, anything that we need to do, I can always call him Paul Bruner. So Paul, you don't care. Please come up here accept this award. Perfect. Thank you. >> Thank you, sir. Uh, Miss Tamara Wilson is the head of our teaching and learning pathway. This is year one for this pathway here at McCree Central. So, a lot of connections with our local schools, but year eight for the district. >> Thank you. >> New pathway. All right. So, I have the privilege of recognizing a student who exemplifies the heart of our teaching and learning pathway. Uh she demonstrates the skills
of a future educator, leadership, compassion, responsibility, and definitely a commitment to growth. Uh if you know this student, it would surprise you that she signed up to do our speech competition next week. She's going to do some public speaking in Louisville. I can't hardly get her to talk in class, but when I ask her what she wanted to compete in, she said public speaking. So, she's always up for a challenge. Uh she's a great leader, and I'm just very happy to get to work with her. So this is for Miss Kay Owens. >> Right. Mr. Tim Fels is the head of our residential carpentry program at Mercury Central. a lot of apprenticeship work with IKRCC uh and also with the community college teaching dual credit courses there for our students and new electrical pathway there
as well. >> The student I'd like to recognize is always helpful. She is an intern for first uh first period student intern for fifth always willing to help. I see her go far in life whether it's with construction or any other path she chooses. And that's Anna Stage Ross. Okay. Uh, computer science, Mr. Colin Cra, come on down. Uh, we've got two years in this pathway so far. What I love so much about his work there is just how much he has done to connect with our community too. So, a lot of work with our local uh >> court. Thank you. You knew what I was trying to say. Um and connecting our students to this pathway, too. >> Yeah. Tanner R is giving the award to he's just a natural leader, a lifelong learner.
I think he's he's a great guy, great person, too. Thank the world of him. I say uh Dr. Shepard leads all the behind the scenes testing information, but Mr. Lee leads the team. Cameron Lee is uh the head of our CTE department and also our AD program at Central. student I want to recognize today has been a cornerstone for our program for the last four years. Uh she's an intern in my program for two to three hours a day and I really don't know what I would do without having that there available to me to get things done. Uh she's been involved with nearly every career development event that we offer at Mccuri Central and has been on CDE teams uh at the state and national level I don't even know how many times to
count. So this one's for Miss Lindsay Wilmont. Okay. And two more that we want to take some time to recognize too. Uh Mr. Steven Grundy couldn't be here today and there are two students that he wanted to recognize. Uh and that is Miss Caitlyn Creekmore and Logan Watson. One, two, three. And also uh for our JRTC pathway, two students that we want to recognize um for this one. And I can uh speak a little bit on behalf of this one too as they were hitting me up for some work today too. But anything to do with ROC military uh planning all of the events that are taking place, military ball is right around the corner. So that's what they are hitting me up on right now. Uh, and so two students that ROTC wanted to
recognize today are Haley Fee and Tanner Bow. Uh, and last, I'll close out top 5% in the state and postsecary readiness, but our team has set the goal to be up there at number one this year, so I don't doubt for a second that they can do it. Thank you guys. >> Thank you. Thank you. Congratulations. As far as super personnel don't have any report this time report. general fund. We had payments from our tax revenue funds because operational expenses debt service we made some payments service,000 in January approximately 11.3 Thank you. So there's no public comment. Need a motion and second for actions by consent. Make a motion to accept actions by consent. And then note that 4G is the school calendar on the agender take action on surplus property town the board take
action plus property bid Smithtown to the following. So the following items received bids and as you can see bids vary. So Tiffany has tabulations on who has winning bids for each each item. Um each individual that placed a bid on multiple items is listed under their name and the amount that they bid on each item. So I'd recommend the board just accept the bid for the for the highest bidder on each item. We looked at what we would have to do if we wanted to reject some bids and sell stuff for scrap, but there wouldn't be that much of a difference. We have to revertise and the clause in there. So, I would recommend just going ahead and accepting the bids, especially since we're almost ready to tear down building over there. We're almost finished
hopefully. Sam and I talked about it today. They're almost finished with their asbestous. So we should be able to advertise for bid soon on demolition. That way it'll get everything cleared out. We just need a motion. >> I make a motion that we accept the surplus property at Smithson. 5B is discuss RFP request proposal for road project. >> So, um I went up last Thursday and met with President Styver and Representative Up Church to request additional funding to uh complete the road project from Central High School. And we had a very very good very productive conversation. And so this morning I I had to uh to log in and do an official request for the 1.37 million additional dollars that we need for the road side. And they will put extra money in the transportation
department side to cover that. And the Kup church told me last week he said you all have a million dollars sitting sitting there. Go ahead and uh project started and the lady that I spoke to this morning kind of told me the same thing that that money should be available July one. So, but anytime you have a project that's over $1 million, you have to do a RFP request for proposal to advertise for an architect. And that's just for So, we just need a motion and a second to do an RFP for architect. I make a motion that we do RFP for the architect project. Motion second. Braxton >> I at this time entering into executive session pursuant to KRS 61 8101C discussion lation against behalf of the public agency motion second enter. That's not
like I didn't know it was just too late to be on public So, she can't talk at all. Like, I can't talk at all. >> I mean, this is important. Can I talk to somebody about it? >> Mr. My probably I'll see you They're going to bust some from the middle school. So, I might be bust. >> Yeah. But I mean, we've got the game now and then a game later on tonight, too. So, it'll be different. >> Maybe just pick you up out here. >> Guys already parked over there. He keep dropping off. >> Yes. See you guys. >> You guys don't have to stay around. They'll just come back. They'll say I'm here. I'm not going out there till the game start. I thought I would wear that tomorrow. I mean, they're not
super, you know what I'm saying? I wear jeans, but I'm not wear She's not the same. Close enough. Keep this. She's trying to Small breakfast. It's been a long time. I miss one. Yes. Sometimes Sky. No. Hallelujah. I'm looking where she said she can see. >> Okay. She said I don't see it. All right. Hey, it's not a moment. Sorry, I'm having a moment. where I'll see you again. All right, you laugh at this one. So Lisa calls me and says, "Hey, I think she thinks she might lost her phone." Of course, I'm going, "Hey, it's not here." And she's like, "I know. I want it." That was a blood moment. Sorry, Charlotte. Did you hear that? Sorry about that. I said, "Well, guess what? >> It's pretty good. >> That was a good one.
I'll tell it on myself." >> Like the other day, I guess it was Saturday, Wesley was convinced that he brought this party in for his kayak and that I had put it somewhere and he couldn't find it. He's like, "I I know we were we were in my little closet when we bought it and blah blah blah. I vaguely remember you buying it. I don't remember it coming in the house. He looked all over the place downstairs and the junk room and anyway I was like just how much was it? It's like 25 bucks. Order just please order another one. If you find find the one that you originally you can give it to our son-in-law for his kay >> and then later he was changing all my car. He lost the filter. You where
we found it >> in the car >> in the bathroom. >> I left it there. He left it on the sink. So, I just left it there. So, he text me today with a picture of the kayak. It was in his trunk. I was like, I wasn't really worried it was me after I found that filter in the bathroom. >> That's too funny. >> Yeah. Like, there's my proof that I do not lose your stuff. Okay. Yes. Breakfast. It's not fair. Somebody Hello. I could just do my first question. >> Well, I do that too. I'll just We're finished with power schools, right? >> What do you mean? >> I'm just power required. But I didn't have a title for that. >> I'll write it on a post when it was in case we have questions later. Do you think we should be compliment? scrap it. So if they come, but they just don't get it out of our Samure. It's not good. James, we could find that. >> Do we have to do the lost title? That's still Yeah. that the truck was at remorse. >> Oh, so we may not see money. Does it says I think it does grabble I'm stronger. You can see Good motor transmission. So if decides one or two of these, does he have to take them? >>
I don't know. >> I don't think they had the high bid that they take they want and then if they don't want them all, other people have to purchase it at the same price. Is that how it works? Maybe >> next time. That's >> No. expectations. UPS package. So he carried over all day long. Wesley said that Wendle said on that bus said when parked they drove it out there probably years ago. sitting next to us. real quick. It must be a few minutes. No, I don't think that won't start up.
