Yes, I can. Thank you. >> Thank you. Like to welcome everybody to the McCary County Board of Education special call meeting February 3rd, 2026, 5:30 in central office. To start the meeting off, uh I'd like to recognize the board members. This is board member recognition month. January was. So, I have a couple things to read here and then I have some certificates. Um, Kentucky observes school board recognition in the month of January. Johnny Barnett, Braxton King, Cody Perry, Es Swain, and Andrew Sexton are among the more than 850 school board members in the state's 171 local school districts being recognized this month for her services. What is a board? A group of individuals with diverse qualifications, background, and experiences to act collectively. Johnny Barnett has been a board member for nine years. He is serving

in his third term of office. He served four years in the previous term January 2009 to December 2012. Was vice chair for two of those years. He has served as chairperson for the past four years. Braxton King has been a board member for seven years. He served as vice chair for one year and chairman for two years and is in his second term of office. Cody Perry has been a board member three years and was elected to finish a term of office and then was elected to his first full term in office. Es Swain has been a board member for three years and has been vice chair for the past three years. He is serving in his first term of office. Andrew Sexton has been a board member for one year and is serving in

his first term of office. We presented the board members with backpacks, cup certificate that I have here I'm going to give out in a moment, tape and snacks in the back. finished to recognize them for their service to the district. So during board member recognition month, we recognize and thank our McCree board of education members for their dedicated service to our students and families. Their leadership plays a vital role in building a legacy of opportunity, stability, and success for every child we serve. Through thoughtful and student focused decisions, our board helps ensure that families can have confidence in their local schools today while shaping a stronger future for generations to come. And I'd like to personally thank the board for uh their collaboration and and work that we do. Sometimes we just see each other

monthly uh but we try to communicate with each other and I do appreciate your all support. So, At this time, I'd like to call your names and you come up and we snag a picture. Jason, >> can they Hey, don't tell my daughter. She went 12 years without >> All right, I'm gonna take two. One, two, three. Cheese and one, two, three. Thank you. >> Thank you. Did you hold it upside down? >> I was marination uh from Judge Green. It says, "Whereas our community values a quality education as a vital step along the pathway to success for our children and whereas Johnny Braxton King, Cody Perry, Eson contribute greatly to the community through their service on board education. And whereas these decision makers are responsible for maintaining strong, effective budgetary oversight, high standards for

employment and a safe, well managed set of school facilities. And whereas the board members are serving our community with integrity, honor, and a commitment to our children's future. And whereas January 26 marks Kucky's observation of their contribution through schoolboard recognition month. Therefore, I green the second do hereby proclaim the month of January 2026 throughout the community as schoolboard recognition month and urge all citizens to honor John Braxton Cody Perry Swang Andrew for their service sign. So, at this time, I'll turn the meeting over to the board chair. >> At this time, I call order and roll call. Braxton >> here. Drew >> here. >> Cody here >> chairs here. Need a motion and second to approve the agenda. Make a motion to approve the agenda. Second motion. Cody at this time pray. Father, we come

to you in the name of Jesus. We just pray over our students. We pray over our staff. We just Lord, thank you right now for taking care of them and watching over every area of their life. Lord, thank you for the promise that if any of us lack wisdom, we can ask of you. And you said that you would give us wisdom liberally. And we just thank you for that in the name of Jesus. Amen. Algiance. Pledge allegiance >> to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. At this time, Superintendent Communications, Dr. Taylor. I guess the only thing that I have is u like to thank everybody for their due diligence on these last NTI

days during the cold snap that we've had. We were hopeful that we could get back in school tomorrow, but we still have several sleep spots throughout the north end of the county. Hopefully with the rain and maybe some warmer temperatures tomorrow we'll shoot for Thursday at this time. Treasure report we had seen revenue from our tax payments. We had grant reimbursements in fun our district activity account. operational expenses and the DAP accounts capital outlay. I went ahead and transferred some of those funds over into our debt service funds to cover some of those bond payments. Uh food service have reimbursements totaling 180,000. That leaves us with a general fund ending balance of 10.7 million for December. >> Any questions? Thank you. There was no public comment. Need a motion and second for actions by consent.

>> I'll second action with discussion discuss take action on rejecting athletic field house. Uh last month we tabled those bids because they came in way above what we had budgeted and at that time we talked with the maintenance staff and had them to look at the project and what they felt comfortable doing. So I informed the architect that we would be uh we'll be projecting that bid. We would be self performing that work there. 90% complete already with an expenditure that's a fraction of what we want. So our guys do a phenomenal job. My recommendation be formally reject >> I Drew >> discuss or acknowledge first calendar committee reading for 2026 2027 school year Mr. This is very nice. But I wanted to give you just a little visual a just to compare uh the

proposed calendar to this current year's calendar. So here's here's the copy. Um there's a very few changes very few changes very similar um still the traditional 170day uh calendar for student instructional days. Then the first day for students will be on August the 12th and the ending date will be August 21 for May 21st. uh still the same holidays, still education day off. Then uh with just that one change being a staff development day that would be moved from April to January which teachers had requested moving that date, we still have a staff development day for Good Friday which is in which will be on March 26. So students would have uh Good Friday off also. So um This was just the proposed the county committee met on the 22nd. So this is the first

proposal. Um did you all have any kind of suggestions or any way to make the calendar for next next school year? >> I have a question about >> Yes. >> So is there a certain reason why the 11th >> that the uh >> that's veterans day. >> Veterans day. Yeah, I know. We started taking Veterans Day off I believe this year, last year, two years ago, and that was just a public kind of request. >> I just noticed that we done it on Monday this morning. >> Yeah, >> makes sense. >> And then the third is the is election day, November, election day. We just got to staff it up and they spread throughout those days before. >> Everyone seems pretty happy with the way way it's being, you know, usually the the spring break

and the fall breaks on the same week. So, >> it's very similar. Most most districts around us have on the same same week. >> So, hopefully families around be able to stillend some time together. >> Um, and I for the days two staff devel Thanksgiving. Our attendance is typically a little lower on those days. And then also I I truly believe that it's staff going to leave town. It's some days they are able to take off and not lose any instructions. Any other questions or any kind of suggestion you all see? I believe it. If you have any questions, please let me know. Thank you. Motion and a second on that on that first calendar committee read a motion and a second on that first reading on that calendar >> to acknowledge it or accept

it. >> To accept it >> to it. be another reading. We can before the next reading if you want something change we can change it. I'll make a motion toledge the first reading of the school calendar. >> Okay. 27 school calendar year. >> Hi, Drew. >> Hi. discuss and acknowledge 2026 2027 draft budget. Mr. B. >> So as you guys know the draft budget is pretty much it's the same thing as what we're currently working with. So the fiscal year 27 budget is pretty identical to fiscal year 26 budget that we're working with because we don't yet have all the information that we need to build a budget for fiscal year 27. Um the draft budget is just the first step in the budgetary process is intended to provide an initial framework for the tenative

budget that's due in May. There's lots of unknowns this time of year for revenue property tax revenues can't be determined at this time. Grant awards we currently are not aware of exactly how much we're getting for those grants and some of them if they will be renewed or not. uh seat funding. Uh the state hasn't set our base per pupil funding yet. They're still trying to determine what that's going to be. And our C funing is also determined by our AADA, which is our attendance. So, we're pretty early in the school year, you know, to know what we're going to end on. We just have to estimate it. Expenses that we still are not sure on just yet for next year. Staffing, we're still in the process of doing for next year. Uh insurance estimates,

we don't have an estimate on that yet. I have included step raises, just those raises that are building in our salary schedule for each employee as they gain another year of experience. And I have went in and increased our utility expenses. So, we have a good start for our fiscal year 27 budget. We're just not there yet. But KD at this point of year, we present the draft budget to you all and you all just acknowledge that we have one started. We're we're moving through the process. >> Again, we have to do this every year. >> It's a guessing game of what they're doing. >> This goes some of the payments. We don't even know what we're going to get until July. >> Some of the grants we won't with the seed funding, which is

the majority of our funding, we should know this spring. >> Any questions for Mr. B? Need a motion and second that we discuss and acknowledge the 267 draft. >> I make a motion we acknowledge the 2026 20 27 draft budget. Second pract and take action on 2024 2025 financial aid and associates is our auditors and they completed the fiscal year 25 audit issuing issuing an unmodified opinion. An unmodified opinion indicates a clean audit result confirming that the school's financial statements are accurate, complete, prepared in accordance with required standards. This is the highest level of insurance an auditor can provide. We have additional information on that if you all >> the 2024 2025. >> I make motion that we accept the 24 2025 finance second. Hi Cody. >> Hi. >> Next meeting. The next meeting board

of education will be Tuesday, February 24th, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. in Florida central office and to second Drew. Thank you all. Thank you.
