002me a few minutes to read them so bear with me um and just relax while I read them in competition after the pronouncer gives the contestant a word the contestant will be encouraged to pronounce the word before spelling it and after spelling it however no contestant will be eliminated for failing to pronounce a word but the contestant must spell the word that is pronounced while the judges attempt to detect a Spell's misunderstanding it is sometimes impossible to detect a misunderstanding until a spelling error has been made the judges are not responsible for the Spell's misunderstanding the contestant May request the pronouncer to pronounce the word again Define it or use it in a sentence the contestant may ask for the language origin of the word no other information about the atmology and history of the
003word will be given the pronouncer may not entertain root word questions requests for alternate definitions or requests to markedly slower the pron pronunciation the pronouncers sh shall Grant all such requests until the judges agree that the word has been made reasonably clear to the contestant the judges May disqualify any contestant who ignores a request to start spelling the judges may also disqualify a speller for um if the speller who does not approach the microphone when it is time to receive the word who engages in unsportsmanlike conduct or who is in the process of spelling utters unintelligently or nonsense words the role of the pronouncer is to correctly pronounce the words the pronouncer will give a sentence a definition and other information about the word at the Spell's request if the contestant thinks the word may
004be pronounced differently the contestant must provide alternate pronunciation and ask if the dictionary lists the pronunciation provided by the contestant the role of the judges is to determine whether the contestant has spelled the word correctly the role of the speller is to gather as much information as possible to help spell the word correctly and to spell the word correctly it is the Spell's responsibility to understand the word the judges may not disqualify a speller for asking a question a contestant starting to spell a word may stop and start over retra retracing the spelling from the beginning but in retracing there can be no change of letters of their sequence for those first pronounced if letters are changed of their sequence is changed in the spelling the speller will be eliminated the spelling be shall be
