not want a week nter we well I think that's how it was set up this year um so we stayed with the same sort of setup uh and they seem to like the date I was just wondering if they did they I mean they obviously that you they've seen these dates to choose I was just curious why they always seem to get on Sat well Independence wasn't on Saturday before now they are I don't know just curious probably more about availability availability that anything all right any other discussion on the motion having received no public input we'll call the question ask members to vote your devices voting is open voting is closed motion passes unanimously all right next item on the agenda is board member comments we'll start um with Mr Moore all right I'll

let going first you okay my comments this this this uh this session is going to be on the effectiveness and the approval of the new tribunal that we have um uh installed into our disciplinary uh process and uh I would like to I would like to commend those who are conducting this tribunal and those who are um um administering it because I I believe that is doing something that is very effectual I I believe it is doing something that is going to uh um bring forward uh a uh a Justified and good faith system that is going to be uh extremely beneficial for uh for our students and I would like to encourage every board member to attend one of those sessions to observe it to observe the effectiveness of it I think it was

a extremely good move for us to um show favor to this new system and uh I'm I'm looking forward to seeing some uh really really great results I've seen some great ones and I'm looking forward to seeing some even better ones great Mr West Morland I'm good tonight Mr Dominguez I just wanted to um I already told Mr mney but like to thank him for helping us get the parking lot at champ Cooper it's much needed much grateful that you organize that thank you so much and for the parish for helping us do that Mr toer things are looking a lot better at JM Cooper they we're getting things a little more settled in um he told me he did really well with the open house he had four nights in a row and he

had um two designated hours each night so two classes went one hour and then skip a little bit two more classes went so he finally got everybody through four nights and uh it it was good I think the parents were happy to to come cuz we haven't been able to have an open house or anything for you know a couple well since Co and then all the construction it was kind of held us up so I think everybody was happy about that great Mr Toler yeah two things real quick one thing football season I know there's been a mentioned it before seems like kind of catching on with the tickets and hopefully everybody's getting into a groove on that I would like to see us at some point I know we talked about it before

about doing some type of comparison school by school to see as far as tickets how many people are coming how many are doing cash how many are doing credit that kind of stuff I would like to see a report on that and even not that I want to get into the program's Financial business but I would like to see maybe do we do financials school by school with the athletic program I'd like to see some kind of report on that to see what schools are doing what as far as fundraising what schools are supporting it by the gate what schools are supporting it by signs on the fence whatever um I'd be real curious to see what the differences between the five big high schools are to see um you know it's obviously we want

to support those that are supporting our schools but I think it would be interesting to see what programs are doing what with their money not that we're getting into their business but just as an overall and then second um we have a policy meeting I believe we set it from Monday is that right no we did not set a policy meeting from Monday no Miss Abrams requested that we wait until she gets back well we can outvote her tonight cuz she's not here but no we will wait then until she gets back um we'll coordinate that with I believe we're going to do Hammond first um we will do it at Hammond high school and we'll do it there and then we'll work our way up or down the parish however youall want to do

it so but out of respect for Mr Robin we will wait till she gets back thank you can I just say something uh I had talked to we talked to Missy about that the other day and and I asked her to just looked is there something urgent that needed that we referred to policy if not then we can wait if it was something urgent then we could but I did you did you happen to remember to look or was anything urgent on that that we referred it's up to the chairperson of that committee to call the meeting I don't know when is she coming back um she just left soon Mr Anthony three week um yeah just wanted to mention I'm doing Tangi leadership this year I think Rose just told me she's done it

has anybody else done it you've done it before I just recommend can't do it this year it's too late but somebody from this this board do it again next year it's a wealth of information um what I learned today is well we we went to the courthouse to the clerk of court the assessor to the landfill which was really cool um animal shelter Etc we went all over the parish but what I will say is um I feel like there's a a confidence building upon the job that we've done some of which they probably don't know exactly what we have done but Melissa kind of shares some of the the successes with us but anyway um what I heard today was the confidence in what we're doing as a school system which was very encouraging

and um I I don't think they were upset about anything that happened in the past I just think they feel like it's a little bit more well oiled now I also think that's evident by the start of school this year it's better this year than it was last year because last year when I was running for this position I had a lot more ammunition so um I feel like it's just a well oiled machine so congratulations to everybody for doing that um I also think it's evident by getting that t tax pass of course we have another opportunity to do that uh coming up in November but that's it just wanted to encourage you guys for whoever's um interested next year I can tell you how to get signed up Mr P uh just a

few things one I want to thank the board for approving the uh policy committee Report with the bereavement in there guys that was a very big win I think for everybody in the in our district uh I want to do a shout out to the transportation department we had a few little fires this week that we that they put out extremely well literally not literally not not real father but they they did a wonderful job with addressing the issue and even though we're short short staffed they did a wonderful job to try to make those issues go away uh I also want to send my condolences to our uh neighboring Parish St Elina for their situation that they had uh our hearts go out to their families and people affected by that as a school

system that's probably your biggest Nightmare and I hope to God we never have to see that on our campus but our hearts go out to them and their families uh other than that I'm thankful for the good start that we've had so far that's it m still you have anything one thing I I did want to just put on I guess not necessarily on record but miss Richards isn't with us just because of U an urgent personal matter um just ask that folks keep her keep her in your thoughts and prayers um one thing too just speak condolences went to service today from Melanie Gordon 33-year employee of the school system um she was a coach in the Hammond area for years family member um but anyway it was U it was a tribute to

our school system to see that many former employees there so condolences to the family BR since we're doing that I'd like to also mention Trent's grandfather passed today so we'll be praying for that family thank all right uh I'm going to um take a little bit of Chairman's privilege and move up our general input session we just have one a member of the general public that wished to um provide some input uh I'm going to go ahead and let them do that before we break for executive session um Mr soy um had some comments related to curriculum guidelines and before we start your clock Mr Soley we um our general rule is that we we give 5 minutes for general public input and and I know we all received your your longer letter um so

we we have received that I didn't know if it was your intention to read all of that tonight and if it was then I was going to try to wave the rules and give you more time but I didn't know I wanted to mention that it might be just slightly over three minutes so so you okay so you don't need any extra time thank you all right thank you sir go ahead all right as most of you already know my 15-year-old daughter was given a reading assignment in the IB literature titled This Boy's Life this book contains inappropriate pornographic sexually explicit content along with obscenities vulgarity and profanity as a father I was extremely upset to find out my daughter was assign this book she went to my wife because she was too embarrassed to

discuss it with me my daughter asked on multiple occasions for an alternate assignment and was denied until we we stepped in and emailed the principal and the IB coordinator the principal emailed us back granting an alternative assignment and what requested another meeting we're informed that no alternative assignments were allowed in the IB program and that the text would continue to be Progressive we're informed that even opting out of the IB literature and going to English honors class the content may be similar books don't have ratings when we purchased a book there was no indication that it would be inappropriate there was nothing issued from the school that warned us we have went to every parent meeting and never has it once been advertised that children would be presented with such content this makes us question

why was this book hidden you as a board didn't have any idea that this book uh or material was being assigned or could be assigned uh from what we we've gathered um you have po policies in place that allow for alternate assignments at the parish level we're trying to understand how you have a program in schools that don't align and you have no control over with them as a board member I would be doing everything in my power to ensure a program is that's implemented to align with the with our current policies ensure our children have safeguards in place we at first thought it may be due to funding that our children were being exposed to this type of Filth in the name of a dollar that could still possibly be why nobody in Administration

has ever brought it to the board's attention we were asked in our meeting with the school what would we like to see come from all of this we currently have an acceptable use of Technology policy if our daughter was to download it on her Chromebook from school she would be in direct violation due to the book's content we are asking that the board strengthen your safeguards in the schools by implementing a policy immediately that would require curriculum and RI materials to abstain from the use of inappropriate or abusive language or conduct inappropriate religious or political messages racially culturally or religiously offensive or contains content that is insensitive to offensive or off offensive based on the individual's gender identity or ethnicity the fory abusive obscene profane pornog pornographic or sexually exclusive nature and any mention that

constitutes sexual harassment or inappropriate romantic overtone at the least just just this week a board member interviewed with action news about the length of skirts and how it impacts hormones of our students we agree if that's really a concern why would we assign a book that portrays a boy moaning while another licks a screen while one says he has six inches of piping hot flesh for her one part detains a man having his manhood cut off and being found in a dead female's mouth members of this board encouraged us to be as concerned about education as we were about the skirts and we are tonight if this if this doesn't impact education and the lives of our young minds being exposed to inappropriate pornographic text I don't know what does we say this humbly we

receive compliments that our daughters or model students but I believe the board would agree that it starts at home please don't undo what we work so hard to do in our homes by teaching our girls what is right and what is wrong what is pure and what is not thank you thank you Mr so you Mr so I I did want to ask you because in your letter you said that you were offered an alternative assignment but then tonight tonight we were uh we were told after we went to the meeting that we there was no alternative assignments going forward made that one exception for this book okay so for on this instance you were given an alternative assignment if the same thing happens again they said they couldn't guarantee us that books going forward

and have the same content be there's no exception to I program I I understand I I just want all thank you sir all right I don't have any other public input um for tonight at this time I'll do we still need to go into executive session okay so I'll receive at this time a motion uh to enter into executive session on the matters of uh Sherry manic versus tangal Paris school system and Rosa and Eric Dillard versus tantal Paris school so Move Motion is made by Mr West Morland second seconded by Mrs Dominguez is there any objection hearing no objections the motion is agreed to we'll enter into an executive session Channel 17 proudly serving the Florida parishes back into order uh at this time I'll receive a motion for the manage versus tangible Paris
