[Music] you all right good afternoon these Donuts parents papers community we're glad that you're out here will the stop could everyone please stand and welcome our graduating seniors [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] alright did everyone please remain standing as we go ahead and have the Pledge of Allegiance it's my honor to introduce a graduating senior Jason Nebraska he's going to do the Pledge of Allegiance I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation [Applause] [Music] [Applause] all right as principal sundown mountain I really want to welcome everyone here today to this very special event starting with our parents their community and our district the site investigated their representatives in particular I'd like to welcome our distinguished guests the board members to

my right here I have Tracy [Applause] and this we appreciate you will represent in the district all right to my right I also have some distinguished members out my audience these are district directors court staff high school principals assistant principals counselors and we appreciate their opportunity to be here today and ensure this event so Vanessa and lastly but certainly not least it's we'd like to thank the teacher the support staff the counselors everyone that really makes Sun down mountain the special place it is let's give them a nice round of applause I also want to give a special shout-out to the spines and her students our town hall students that how to decorate this place also mr. Dez who is our plant manager are also getting the lighting the computers all the different things to

really get this event all right at this time it's my sincere pleasure to invite dr. quick khalasar superintendent that's right beautify school district to the podium but he's always been a very strong supporter of a set down mountain and it's a pleasure to have to speak to all of you today dr. Kelly we're gonna have to do this really is a very special day now I will be very honest to say nobody knows this more than the students in front of me yes I think a place in life and what are our objectives our academic speech we want to get to point A to point B and one thing that we don't often get is we think there's a lot of one way to get there and we have to take that one way I

recently [Music] a trail of ants all the way down the hallway and went out the back door and through the back area so I washed it all up got rid of them and then within about five myths they came from a different direction and they found their way right back to the same spot that they wanted to get to they were determined that they were going to get to that plate of food that was all and nothing was gonna stop them so I would clean over there they come from a different person so the point here is that there's more than one cannot wait to get to our goal and the important part is the beatsie burger and what is being achieved here today is as important as any other student in the district who

has achieved go graduation you are amazing the things that you have done is that the same level that the same intensity as anybody else and I respect you for that I applaud you for them to celebrate this day with you and I appreciate also the much support that has been given to you by the staff here at sundown one thing that has been said and really until you live it and when you talk about students that's often said they don't care how much you know until they know how much you care what that means is I can be brilliant in math that doesn't matter if the students that I'm teaching you don't think I care about them these folks here at Sunday on the staff administration and all the support they care actually I think

I could use the word I think they loved me and they thought their heart their soul their sweat and tears into this work that they do that's pretty special you are special and it's not just those of us here who know that eternally behind - this place is packed for people who also care about - and excited about what you're eating congratulations to you we look forward to the baby dr. Gillis at this time I'm really really proud of the fact that this is the largest graduating class that we've had here since I've been here in the last four years we have pressed time we have a better than 23 students that have completed their certificates that completed their course of study and they're going to be graduating on the 16th so that is really

a truly the speaks volumes for hard work that they put in the hard work that the teachers have put in lord knows of teachers F to the parents as well and all the things that they had to do behind the scenes getting them up in the morning making sure they're at school calling the front office receiving phone calls from us as well I mean it's a community effort and to have 123 students and there's still a Institutes they're still they haven't completed their course of studies yet but we still expect to have maybe three four five more students make it for the commencement ceremony next week so we're very very excited about that number it's it's a testimony to the collective effort that we do as a group not just one party not two parties

just a whole group to really make sure that these students are successful it's not always easy but it's always rewarding so I'm really pleased to to mention that and each student here has their own story if you talk to them they can tell you the trials and tribulations that's the successes that they have on the way and I would love to have an awful appearance speak for a moment or two but we camp for time but I certainly would like to have someone come up here and share her story what she's done since she's been here so at this time [Applause] [Music] [Applause] so let me tell you about myself my name is Rebecca Coughlin and I'm a graduating senior and also the president for our town hall here at sundown I came to sundown

this year and impacted my life in a very positive way the teachers here always burnt their hardest debate each and every one of their students succeed and with all their classes students focused on putting students first always I would leave my team better grades I spent down to to the opportunity send out gifts with extra 30 minutes to get time in each class that you may need extra hug with so I believe that sunsets at the plan for each or one of their students to make it more individualized for their specific needs the teachers have turned out I believe have a unique unique way of impacting their students teachers at sundown provide all of us with a current tonight and support we needed or I think we did indeed at this moment they help us

with our journey to go to this place and time for that I thank you all [Applause] let's give her another nice round of applause all right this part of the program is where we as a step down staff like to present a special awards recognition in the attendance excuse me on the academic Ariens the academic areas will be presented by teachers who represent the subject area so at this time I'd like to present how the presentation for math and the individual that we'll be doing the presentation is miss Cathy [Applause] so I like to say that I won't be today the privilege of announcing the amount of work and we do this every year and I have to tell you it isn't an easy process we get together as a math department and we try

to agree I've got one student that deserves this award and usually we have different ideas about how to cuz I'm ready to fight for money and he actually said that very same and so this year you'll be blessed to know that you were exactly all of her choice you were one choice well there are many others that are very deserving this one individual does really stood out so I need to indulge me for just a moment I want to show something a little personal with you that will lead you to telling you about this year's massive recipient so most of you don't know the staff knows that just recently I lost my stepfather and this was very hurtful loss for me because he was so much more to me than a stepfather he was what

every father should be he was kind and compassionate hardworking and it would give you the shirt off his back and come to someone's aid even at 2:00 in the morning he always built me up and when he could he taught new things most of his life he was in the service of some type he spent many years in Montgomery words as a service technician and when he went then when they went on earth he Sears recruited them and he continued on with them he can fix just about anything I knew he knew everything why do I tell you this you might be asking will our choice reminds me of all of these same qualities that this student has and I believe that he too will spend his life helping people teaching people and building people

up he is great and Herbert even has a knack for understanding all areas in math but that is a way who stood out to me what I saw was a leader I saw kindness I saw humility and I saw him family my course is more of a self-paced course and he actually finished a couple of weeks early and I think I saw him stopping his own work because someone else in the class up here needed help and so he stopped what he was doing and he stopped to help them and the interesting thing is it wasn't a friend it could have been a friend it could have been an acquaintance it could have been somebody that he barely knew it didn't matter he just enjoyed helping others so here's where he's going to know who

he is for the rest of you will have to wait for a second the other thing I asked him so what's next College and he responded no now I admit that I'm still playing old school and that made me a little sad but then he continued to say that he started work with his dad for a little while and earn money for Community College and I have to tell you that that did my little financial nap part really good thank God I didn't ask what he wanted to do and he stated that he wanted to go into air conditioning Wow so I was always thinking about what he wants to do I try to figure out how can we help him on his way this makes our reporting to many but for students sometimes and

to get from my heart because as I said this student although much younger just really has the same heart as my stepdad who I miss very much so I like home when I told my mom all about this and I asked her if she would help me she was more than happy to and so what we did next was we went outside and we went through all of my stepdads air-conditioning equipment and we picked something out for him to get him started and so you should know that this means a lot to me because it comes from so [Applause] [Music] [Applause] and it is a compression test for all right this time I'd like to introduce mrs. Kazama and she is the electives teacher [Applause] so long issues are several key determinants that me to

choose my person well this person was just beyond the average student I've seen so many traits that before just beyond blacks and Asians this student that I have in mind was actually a very respectful determined to accomplish whatever he had to do self-motivated well matter and extremely well behaved classes are self-paced and in terms of where this event is possible I'm sure he kept going and going one class after another Kiki beautiful mounts over one team is completely done quizzes the midterms whatever there was including two finals and just one class out of time while all of this I again experienced nothing warm but beautiful behavior determination and everything so I press on to the [Applause] [Music] [Applause] all right for the area of science I'd like to introduce miss Donna crosses [Applause] most people

do not intend to understand they listen to the intent to reply this was my stephen r.covey this theme was unexpected in my posture that share this is not all that many students undergo backgrounds and lots of opinions as we focus on all this information that's thrown at them every day there were social media and television each student was asked to research present day nor the Guardian topic of their choice and after that data was presented there were many many many discussions and sometimes too many as these conversations continued with every unit they began to put their opinions aside and really started to listen to each other and asking for clarification one student stood out in the room because he was making connections between the units the disease's the treatments the therapies and how the whole

body was connected these conversations is continuing to happen when I was truly pains that they be gonna need to listen to each other and not just reply to each other one student had managed to change old enemy from across a chair and actually taught me how this lesson by it's an actual book this one student leadership from so [Applause] all right for the area of social studies the same way this will fog and I had many students to consider this year when selecting the social studies student of the year there were many students that we both have in our classes that we wanted to celebrate and recognize today but unfortunately we can only pick one when making the final selection we looked at both the criteria what makes a gifted social studies student as well

as the student who appreciates the importance of studying social studies that takes advantage of the opportunities of Sunday the student that we selected this year came to us after falling behind early in her high school career however once she's joined us she soared and excelled in everything she did she did extremely well in all of her classes [Music] the world lies in the hands of those who have the courage to dream and who take the risk of living out their dreams each according to his or her own talent this wolf on and I are very happy to present this award to the social studies student of the year Erika safar so [Applause] all right in the English it is too difficult that seems to be the final deciding factor for us this year the word

voice not just the act of speaking but what is it portrayed through actions and written work we spend time conferences easy someone's around throwing and added energy to class discussions while others were studious and pray mr. Couto will also have the student articulated for us how we feel about her she said she has a quiet demeanor which she's confident self-assured and kind she reminds me of this quote nothing condemned the light that shines from within my mind this is exactly what the student is a bright light to all those around her she has recognizable and commendable qualities always completes daily assignments in a timely manner consistent with a uses her personal best effort on a daily basis received high marks on reading and writing assignments but below the surface you come to recognize exceptional understated

qualities she is self-motivated she was consistently positive in her outlook and attitude she is thoughtful and insightful she displays humility and integrity she is always crying and hopefully she is consistently a religious student that is something that set her apart from the rest of the nominees this year the English department award goes to [Applause] all right we have a nice round of applause for Paul okay it is now time for the principal's award the principal award recognizes a male and female student that exemplifies into spark desirable characteristics and qualities and actions that make them a role model here and send out mountain and it was very difficult if we certainly have quite a number of students that with fill the bill in that description I want to first recognize the female recipient this award [Applause]

[Music] [Applause] you should get round of applause let's get downstairs [Applause] all right now available sent me in for this award again very difficult choice goes through Berto [Music] [Applause] applause all right now it's time to learn the character Council boards and that's something that's really big here at our school that's what we have the sizes the six colors of character and if you see it hanging up from the rafters there we've got the six characters that we exemplify each of every day we reinforced it we really tried to emphasize it to our students and we really want to understand that those are desirable qualities that we'd like them to take away after their experiences here at sat down so as this goes we have a number of ladies and gentlemen here that will be

recipients and the first award is for trustworthiness it represents honesty loyalty reliability they both have done an awesome job since arriving to sundown Melanie and have seen as role models to not only their peers but to everyone else here so without further ado Roberto [Applause] all right the next pillar is respect these are the vigils treat others with respect follow the golden rule they also demonstrate many qualities and respect and continue to do so in every aspect of your daily routine I'd like to call out Sara Ellis [Applause] alright responsibility they do what they're supposed to do they persevere to keep on trying and always do their very best these statements need suppli Faiz and symbolizes this character responsibility so I'd like to call up here [Applause] all right this next person is going to

get a workout [Applause] doesn't parent get worried every time to make it spot alright fairness is the next pillar place while controls listens to others is very open-minded they demonstrate fairness throughout here and they're very much appreciated by all the female recipient is Angela Venus [Applause] [Music] the mail recipient mark Alcazar [Applause] right to the next pillar it's carrying embodies the compassion and gratitude they also are very polite respectful and students lead their respectful students they've been this way this whole entire year the female recipient is Larissa Mitchell [Applause] Mayo verse again give her a smile [Applause] by your last pillar is citizenship they do their part to make the school of the community a better place they respect authority they laws and rules and demonstrate the leadership skills throughout the year and we'd like
