Dean is available to answer any questions or provide any additional a good line you need Madame president members
of governing board dr. callous and cabinet this evening section 9 the first part of section 9 it is presented for first read we have no suggested changes for the first part of section 9 any questions from the governing board Thank You mr. Dean next we'll move to action discussion item one recommendation to approve interim certificated employee contract language for the 2018-2019 school year dr. kaylis thank you madam president members of the board and members of cabinet this evening mrs. Beck will introduce this item good evening madam president members of the board cabinet tonight we are bringing to you the language for an interim certificated contract after the 92nd day the district offers an interim contract to our certificated staff it is basically the same as the contract we offer other teachers however there is no
guarantee for a contract for the next school year because we're not sure that we'll have positions and if we offer them a contract that automatically provides that opportunity to work for us we may or may not have positions for them so they are interim they are able to apply to any position that we have in the district and have they proven themselves throughout the year we will rehire them and contract them in the summer for the next school year but it's a protection for the district so that we don't over staff and I have a contract in place that we can't really afford how many do we generally have as employees that are interim it varies every year we've had more recently because we've had more resignations strapped to the course of the year so
we hire more during the course of the year but generally we have between 10 and 20 okay [Applause] any other questions comments I'd entertain a motion a motion to approve the interim sort of certificated employee contract language for the 2018 2019 school year second motion made by nae Leonard seconded by Traci Sawyer synchro please cast your votes motion passes let's try move to action discussion item to recommendation for approval of the position of fleet management foreman dr. tellus yes madam president members of the board are members of cabinet on this item I will ask mrs. Bach and mr. Hicks they'll do a team effort on this one Madam President members of the board members of cabinet I'll respond and if there are questions I can't answer they mr. Hicks well but I think I'll probably
be able to handle it as we continually evaluate the efficiencies of the district and being financially responsible we look at our job descriptions to ensure and the positions that we have that they are meeting our needs we had a vacant position on our Transportation Department and as we looked at our needs that we really feel like we have a need with that aging bus fleet that we have that that position needed to be changed to one that did more with mechanic supervision and maintenance routine maintenance on our buses and so we rewrote the Job Description it's a little higher level so there's a small increase to our budget however it will better meet the needs to ensure the safety transportation to our drivers into our students how are we meeting that need prior to now
how is that being addressed we have mechanics and people in place to do that but we have found the need to add a supervisor more of a supervisor role to ensure an accountability piece to ensure that all of our safety checks are getting done I don't think we haven't been at a place where there's a concern where we've had issues but it's preventative so that we don't get to that place we had the opportunity because of a vacancy to create this position at a small increase to our budget and as we move forward it is going to benefit us so that we don't have any problems in the future so how many people will this position supervise it will supervise I am gonna guess at this but I think it's three three it's three or
three three three [Applause] any of the questions mm-hmm I move to approve the addition of the fleet's maintenance Foreman position as presented to a second motion made by Christine Prichard Signum by J Leonard please cast your votes [Music] motion carries Nexus action discussion item three by three discussion and possible action regarding start time for workshop scheduled for January 23rd 2018 dr. Kellis yes madam president and members of the board this evening this item is on the agenda at the request of a board member so I will return this back to the President to lead a discussion in this item the history here is that at the last board meeting a workshop was scheduled with dr. J Andrus on our next board meeting has a pre board meeting and the request was to reconsider that I
believe so and I apologize I failed to look at the time or consider the time when we had that discussion and typically I I can't always count on being able to be here before 6 o'clock because of work commitments so I was respectfully asking the board to consider either having that discussion item or a part of that I mean it would be an information item or something is that how we would go about it be a part of the regular meeting as opposed to starting it at 5:15 for a workshop outside of the scheduled meeting if that would work for everyone well but that works for me I'm fine I had asked miss dr. Kellis and because this was acted upon at our last board meeting I said well we need to go ahead and
put it on the agenda for this particular one since we already we all acted upon it so I'm totally fine with it I apologize for the oversight no problem okay so I'll go ahead and and actually thank you all for being flexible with that I'll go ahead make the motion then that I motion to schedule the governing board self assessment workshop to be incorporated into the January 23rd regularly scheduled running board meeting second motion made by Christine Pritchard seconded by a Jennifer Tanner please cast your votes no she made that first of Kristen yes I can Jen I just motion passes thank you next we move to agenda item J student update so at this time I'll go ahead and turn it over to destiny Espinoza from Valle Vista High School and Megan Fleming from
Dysart High School welcome madam president dr. Kellis members of the boarding cabinet for our student report the first thing we did as a council was welcome introduce and introduce ourselves to our new members from sundown there'll be four representatives from sundown High School joining our council we are very happy to see our council grow after we previously formed brainstormed ideas that we may want to start planning to really bring the schools together to be a unified district some ideas include but are not limited to hosting a Fall Festival hosting a dance hosting a service project or hosting a talent show we I decided to start with a district-wide service project that we will be beginning to advertise later this week until the 22nd will be collecting toiletry items we decided to start off on something
that was easy to plan and that was kind of small as a great way to get the school together while helping out our community the next idea everyone had voted on was a district-wide dance everyone seemed very excited to make this one of our very first big activities that we do as a council we didn't fully go in-depth about when and where that is something we'll discuss at our next meeting we also had talked about the spring Leadership Conference which is something we'd all like to do in March as a great way to get every student to show off their leadership skills lastly we had got invited to see a speaker at North High School as a district counsel to get more comfortable with each other and see a motivational speaker that might spark some
ideas for future activities and events we play it and then I'd also like to introduce Megan who will be our second representative of the Leadership Council thank you slumming would you like to add anything or sorry um I believe she covered all that we talked about just want to thank you for allowing us to have this group because it allows us to come together as leaders to really unite the schools and the district as a whole so thank you well it's good having you thank you so much for stepping up okay next we have superintendent update dr. Kellis Thank You Madame president members of the board and members of cabinet just a couple of items today we had a pretty spectacular event right here in the boardroom with the annual district spelling bee and of
the 19 schools that were represented elementary schools would like to congratulate Luke elementary who produced our Victor Seth Ray and we'll be bringing Seth back at a future board meeting to recognize him but it was very exciting to see the in some cases the emotion that goes into that level of academic competition but we wish the very best at the regionals he and I think we're taking the top five of the group so that was pretty exciting an open enrollment started today for the freedom traditional Academy and we've been tracking almost every ten minutes to see how the tickers is progressing and ava has done a good job of maintaining her patience as about keep swinging by her desk to get the latest count and but it is impressive I can say that and also
would like to welcome Miss Densmore to the dais and we're looking forward to working with you and working with s Pritchard as the board president congratulations to you next we have governing board update any comments or updates from the governing board I just want to welcome Don as well excited to have you on board and thank you Tracy for your services for president you know it takes extra time and efforts out of your day so appreciate she would like to welcome miss Bence mark it's good to have you look forward to working with you also would like to thank Tracy for her service as board president and look forward to moving forward into the spring semester wish everyone a wonderful spring semester Campbell if spring is here already yeah and welcome back hope y'all had

Bailey thing yeah um I had just a couple of quick things just welcome dawn dents more to the board glad you are amongst us and that's a difficult seat to sit in you know you took dr. Bailey's spot you're sitting beside of mr. Leonard it was the only male on the date well but the exception so yes yeah so welcome again Don I had attended the ASBA annual conference back in seems like long ago back in December good conference and right before the conference we had discussed there were only two candidates that was one for president-elect and one for treasurer they didn't have a secretary so there were six people that ran for the secretary position and one was elected and we had
received notification probably about a week afterwards that that particular person that one the secretary did not win her reelection for her own governing board seat so now the ASB a Board of Directors which will be meeting over the weekend we will appoint a new secretary from one of the five remaining people so I'll keep you posted on that attended the Valle Vista and Dysart Soccer Cup which was awesome and it ended up that Valley Vista ended up winning but it was a great I had never been to a soccer cut before this was the district one and just to let everyone know there have already been 60 as of yesterday they have already been 64 bills that have been drafted by our legislature as of yesterday so I'm sure there may be some more but
I haven't checked several of them have do have to do with education so if you wish to keep track of those bills please do so especially the ones that have anything to do with more funding for our public schools so just keep track and and make your voices known to those that serve us in that capacity that's it thank you next remove two requests for future agenda items I'm hearing uni right so then we have a call for executive session pursuant to a RS three at - for three 1.03 a five for the purpose of discussing or consultations with designated representatives of the public body in order to consider its position and instructors representatives regarding negotiations with employee organizations regarding the salaries salary schedules or compensation paid in the form of fringe benefits of employees
