001welcome thank you for coming and viewing our 2019 Dysart district spelling bee we are excited to have our students here today we've had a lot of local spelling bees going on around the area there will be a Regional Spelling Bee and the state Spelling Bee to look forward to so we're going to wish everyone good luck today we're excited to have them and we're excited to have you here as well lots of support thank you we do have several judges from our district side so we have the three and we also have our pronounced er my job is to let everyone know what the rules are going to be I've not after three years I've still not memorize them so I will be reading them I'll read them slow it at any point we'll just
002stop proceeding and make sure that all of these rules are followed so that there's not any questions in competition after pronounce er gives the contestant a word the contestant will be encouraged to pronounce the word before spelling it and after spelling it however no contestant will be eliminated for not pronouncing the word the contestant must spell the word that is pronounced while the judges attempt to detect a spellers misunderstanding it is sometimes impossible to detect a misunderstanding while her until a spelling error has been made the judges are not responsible for the spellers misunderstanding the contestant may request the pronounce er to pronounce the word again define it and use it in a sentence the contestant may ask for the language of origin no other information about the history of the word will be given
003the pronounce er would not entertain root word questions or requests for alternate definitions or requests for markedly slower pronunciation the pronounced er shall grant all requests until the judges agree the word has been reasonably clear to the contestant the judges may not qualify a contestant who ignores a request to start spelling the judge may be also disqualifying the speller who does not approach the microphone when it is time to receive the word I can imagine that happening but with its in the rules the role of the pronounce er is to pronounce the word as needed that pronounced er will give it a sentence definition and other information is totally described the role of the judges is to determine whether the contestant has spelled the word correctly the role of the speller is to gather as
