We're going to start with employee recognitions. Mrs. Pa. >> Hi, good afternoon. I'd like to call Mrs. Rolesa, please. >> Good afternoon. My name is Sai Robles and I am the principal at Arizona Desert Elementary. Um it was our month to um select somebody to get recognized. Um and at our school we send out a survey and all of our um 68 staff can vote um to see who should be
recognized um monthly but then again here at the district for the month of February. So this um month our uh teachers and staff voted to recognize Miss Gabriella Boskeet. Neither are here today, but I still want to um let everybody know why they got selected. Um and then we'll give them the little video tomorrow. Um but Miss Gabriella Boskeet is um one of our third grade teachers. Um she has been there for um a few years, but Miss Gabriella Boskeet was selected um by her staff and peers because a lot of the comments that they made were that she is a reliable, caring, and dedicated individual. Um she has um she is beyond patient. Um and she has a just a sense of um tranquility. When you see her walking down the hallway, there is
nothing that will ever um seem off about her. She's just very um serene. She transmit that she transmits that peace to us. um and we are just very very grateful that she is at our campus and that she is able to um support her students with that same piece that she supports us as staff. Um so congratulations to Miss Gabriella Boskeet and she didn't come because she's probably really tired. Um she was testing um today for a um and then she is also part of um NIT um math support that we're receiving. So, she was um she stayed for some additional PD afterwards and she also does tutoring. Um so, that was her day for today. Um so, we're just very grateful to have Miss Wkeet. Um the next um employee that they selected was
um Miss Marina. Miss Avina is a uh full-time um sped instructional assistant in a life skills classroom. She works with students um third through sixth grade. Um but If you ever visit our campus, uh you're going to be able to see that Miss Avena has um well, both of them, that's something that they have in common. She is a very patient individual. Um very caring, loving. Um she treats our students as if they were her own children. Um with that same patience, that love. Um and you can never see that she is upset. She can be having the worst day of her life. Um today she didn't come because one of her children got sick. She is a mother as well. Um but she can have sick children. She can be sick. Um you know
it could have been a difficult day in classroom but whenever you ask her how are you doing? She'll always say good good and with a smile on her face. So, um we are just very grateful to have Miss Aignia, not only um as a staff at Arizona Desert, but specifically working with our students in the life skills um classroom because they truly deserve people that um love them and care for them the way they need to be. So, um Miss Aigna, we are very grateful to have you at Arizona Desert. So, thank you so much. Okay. >> Um 6.2 principles report any >> um yes I'd like to call um we had our district spelling be and we have the winners for first second and third place. I'd like to call Mr. Reyes and Mrs.
Kamacho to present the certificates for our first, second, and third place winners. Please before we go out. Good, good afternoon, Mr. Reyes. I'm here at Principal Southwest. Before I give out these certificates, I would like to uh thank uh Mr. Duran together with Miss Nunes, our assistant principles at our schools to organize this event uh for our kids and also all the teachers that supported our students individually in their schools um to participate in the spelling be. So, congratulations to these students. Uh for I get the honors to introduce two of my students. In third place, I got Adriana Mador for third place. >> And in second place, I have Kayla Ayala. >> Hello. And I am Miss Kamacho, proud principal of Cesa Chavez. Kayla is a road runner as well. Our second place and
our first place at the district, Jesus Sallaya. So, good afternoon. So, um just a little bit about the spelling bee process. So, we start at our school and we pick our top three at the school winners and then they go to the district spelling bee. These were the three district spelling bee winners. But our highest student from each school goes to the county spelling bee. So, the county spelling be was held yesterday out at AWC and I'm proud to announce Desert View took third place. Mr. Christian Hernandez, come on up. Uh board members, if you can please join me in uh congratulating him and taking a picture with our um students, please. Better. I don't know. six >> 6.3 uh director's report. Any misspa? >> Yes. I'd like to call Miss Linda Coronado, please. Our
federal projects director. also the liazison for our parent leaison. Good evening uh board president, members of the board and staff and community. Um I'm here briefly to share a new professional development opportunity for our parent liaison uh through a partnership with all in education. It's a local nonprofit founded by Yuma student and focus on strengthening family leadership and engagement. The program is called the parent educator academy. It is an introductory leadership development program designed for caregivers who want to strengthen their ability to support their children better navigate the school system and engage confidently in decisions that impact their families and communities. So, starting the first cohort and um our apparently liaison will be the first cohort members and we're trying to gather maybe some members of their um PTO's that could partake in this first
academy and we plan to um launch March uh 17th this um coming March and the course um is a virtual um online training by professionals that deals with a lot of different topics that are really u bringing um knowledge and um more of a partnership building that partnership with our family. So we're really thrilled to embark um this journey with our parent liaison and this community. Thank you. >> Thank you Linda. >> Thank you. >> We're very excited about this um new professional development for our parent liaison. um the last three years we're able to allocate monies to have our parent leaison work full-time versus the part-time that they always had. They're the connection between the principal and the parent. So, uh with this training, we're going to be able to provide our parent liaison
u more support system so that they're able to bring that to our parents. >> Thank you. Board members, any questions for Mrs. Par, Miss Coronado? No. Any more on the director's report? >> Yes, Mr. Gonzalez, please. >> Good evening, board members and community members. I'm here to talk a little bit about CPI. We just went through a training, a four day training. It was a districtwide training. This training involves um a hand selected group of people from each school. This training involves um preventing of a crisis, what what you need to do when it comes to a crisis. how to how to deescalate a situation, how to um uh work through it without resorting to any type of physical or any type of extra behavior that you should not have. Um this um each school
submitted um two two handpicked people from their campuses. Some of them were counselors, some of them were special educators, they master teachers and they came here for a 4-day training. This training is composed of two two parts. The majority of the part is based on the verbal deescalation of a situation. The second part is actually the physical intervention. How to restrain somebody in a in a manner that won't be um damaging to them or to the child. Okay. So, that was the the training that we had. Um once we completed the 4-day training, each staff member will be fully certified for a period of two years. After the two-year process, we get to renew the certification for each of them. Um we also got to um trained three SRO officers that we have here including
Mr. PTO. Um one of the things that is very unique to our district is that we were able to bring the presenter to us and doing that is is a costsaving measure. That's something that nobody else in in the county has done before. They usually send people to Phoenix, Tucson, San Diego to get the training, but we were able to bring the trainer to us. And what what that happens when that happens is we're able to train more people and since we are able to train more people we have a greater impact. What so the next step for us is um the rollout. What does the roll out look like? Um today we had our admin meeting and during the admin meeting we talked about how we're going to start um providing this training to
principles to psychologists to the counselors that did not attend followed by um training to the rest of the teachers um during the spring this spring starting the spring as well as during our summer and fall. Hopefully we'll we we're expecting that we should have everybody trained in the near future. But um that's the training that we had and I want to thank the principles um for sending your staff and thank Mrs. Paris and Miss Galvan and you guys as well for for making this happen. This is something very unique to us and very something that we are that we should be proud of having. So >> thank you. Any questions? >> You got to have questions you guys. I dressed up for this one. copy of card. >> I will next time though. >> Thank
you guys. >> Thank you for saying that. >> Anyone? Anyone else? >> Uh no, that's it for the superintendence report. Just a reminder that all we have started the state assessment that 10% of our later grade our students are currently taking being assessed on the Azella the test that um measures their English proficiency. So it's there's a lot of adrenaline um at the schools right now. Our principles are probably drained um but we're very confident. We were looking at data today and we're very confident that um principles that school students are going to do really well. So is this the assessment they're taking right now is that 10% of the letter grade. That's it for the superintendence report. >> Thank you and thank you principles for the hard work that you do throughout this week
and during testing at all times and our teachers and staff of course. Um item number seven, consent agenda. The consent agenda is presented before you with items that can be approved with one motion unless one of my colleagues would like to um consider one of them separately. 7.1 is student activity report. 7.2 ratification of vouchers. 7.3 donations. Do I have a motion to approve the consent agendas presented? >> Moveable member Varela. Do I have a second? >> Second by board member Royo. All those in favor signify by saying I. >> If anyone opposes, please say so by stating nay. Motion carries unanimously. >> Item number eight, information and discussion on items 8.1. Expenditure report summary. Mr. Burnhart. >> Yes. Good evening board members, members of the public and staff. Um this is a expenditure budget
through the end of January and uh maintenance and operations is the first item. Uh we have a budget of 40.1 million. We've expended 19.5 million. We've encumbered another 16.1 million. We've got a budget balance of 5.1 million and a percentage of that is 12.4% of the overall budget. Maintenance the the capital outlay fund is the next item. Uh we have a budget there of 13.95 million. We've expended 1.5 million. We've encumbered another 600,000. Uh we've got a budget balance a budget balance of 11.8 million and that's 84 and a half% of that budget. That's all there is right now unless you have questions. >> Do any of the board members have any questions for Mr. Burnhart? Okay, seeing none, Mr. Burnhard. Thank you. The district calendar is every year we try to um uh complete it as close as possible to the high school and um this has already gone to the staff in the district uh and we've had the principles and supervisors share it uh with comments and took those into consideration too. The administrative recommendation is to approve the 2627 fiscal
year school calendar as presented. >> Thank you. Commest. Um, are there any questions from any of the board members on the calendar? Okay, seeing none, do I have a motion to approve the calendar 26 27 fiscal year as presented? >> I make a motion. >> Moved by more clerk AONA. Do I have a second? >> Second by board member OOS. All those in favor signify by stating I. >> If anyone is opposes, please say so by stating nay. Motion carries unanimously. Item number 9.3, approval of new position, job description, salary schedule, and work calendar for assistant finance director, Miss Aestto. >> So, the administration recommends approving a position of an assistant finance director for the finance department. A review of current staffing indicates that the district is under staff in this department when compared to
others in Yuma County elementary school districts. This analysis was based on the number of students and staff search uh served at um each district. The proposed job description and salary schedule are attached for the governing board's review and consideration. This would be a 12-month position. The administrative recommendation is to approve the new position of assistant finance director, job description, salary schedule, and work calendar as presented. >> Thank you, Miss Estto. Are there any questions or comments from any of the board members? >> I have a quick question. Are you going to follow a competitive hiring process for this position? >> Yes. So, we are waiting for you guys's approval to be able to post the position uh both internally ex and external. >> And the reason that I asked is because three people already asked
me if we already had picked someone for this position. No, we don't. >> I just wanted to make sure for the record. >> No, >> that we don't have anyone. >> No, absolutely not. Um, item number 10, discussion and possible action to approve the following personal items. 10.1 ratification and or new employment. >> Yes, we have uh classified and we have a a total of 16. There are four new positions. The five the first two were additional crossards that were um hired for places that were recommended. I don't remember the streets. Um the other two uh are at Gatston and that's because of this uh number of um special education students and number 15 is a new position for bus driver and that is again justified for all the routes instead of paying all a lot of overtime and then there's not availability sometimes um there's a a new position. The rest of
them are replacements. The administrative recommendation is to approve the personnel action as presented pending proper certification and clearance. >> Thank you, Miss Aostto. Um, on number one on the effective date, is that a typo or or we ratifying >> that? That's a ratification. The governing board has allowed us to when only for special education to as long as they're cleared and their background is fine, we've always been allowed to start them and then ratify them at the board meeting. We can always change that if you would like, >> but those are the only ones. >> Okay. No, you remember me on on that one. But um on a comment to that, like I wouldn't like to hold any hirings pending board approval. So if need be that we need to call for a special meeting
as long as you can grab a quorum, feel free to do so. >> Okay. Would that be for all the positions >> if I need a as needed? Yeah. I don't want to have any I know you guys move through. um automatically thinking sped which you we already do uh probably transportation would be another one >> with sped they already have a because of the need and we don't want to delay that so I remember doing >> that giving authorization but there are other positions that could have or might have could have started earlier >> so as long you can as long as you can grab a quorum of us I think we can move forward with >> okay >> with personal changes in general as needed that that your discretion >> thank you >>
I don't want to get daily operations. >> Okay. Thank you. >> So with that being said, um the administrative recommendation is to approve the personal actions as presented pending proper certification and clearance. 030and transferring into another position. Some of them are the salary changes either because they obtain a master's degree or there's two that were not able to provide that they're currently in an education program. So, we're bringing their salary to reflect that. The administrative recommendation is to approve the transfers and salary changes as presented. >> Thank you. Are there any questions, comments, or concerns? >> If not, do I have a motion to approve? >> Make a motion. >> Move by member Royo. Is there a second? >> Second by member Varela. Those in favor signify by saying I. >> I. If any opposes, please nay. Motion carries unanimously. Do I have a motion to adjurnn the meeting? >> Make a motion.
