001e e e spe hear us yes perfect thank you all right are we ready to get started like to thank everybody for being here especially like to welcome our nutrition services group that's here um I think we're all in for a treat I hope I know we areally that's right we do have a feedback form uh like to call this meeting to order and move on to to this work study meeting to order uh and move on to agenda item number three update on nutrition services and school lunch taste testing and I'll turn it over to Dr mccort thank you Mr Thompson governing board members tonight we're at that time of the year where nutrition services is going to come in and tell us all the great things that they do and then actually let
002you guys do some taste testing and so turn it over to Bonnie and Natalie it's all yours um uh good evening Dr McCord uh yes I'm very proud uh to bring forward our nutrition services team uh we wanted to give you an update on the national school Lynch program and some of the uh parameters that we're dealing with uh with the high uh more more stringent nutrition standards um also we wanted to take this opportunity to allow you to taste some of the foods that we're presenting to our students every day and I wanted to make sure it was clear that all of the items that we're sharing with you today are foods that are being provided to our students so this this is not a catering this is the the um the quality of
003the lunches that we are served to our students every day and um so and so in so saying that I also want to remind you that our palettes as adults are much more developed than our students in many cases so keep in that in mind as you try these foods and please um you've got three separate evaluations for the three different things that we're providing to you so if you give us any feedback um that would be great as well so with that I'm going to hand it over to miss Natalie Tenny and she's going to go through the presentation with you and as usual I will be providing some commentating color commenting color commenting yes I I allowed her to tag team with exactly allow so it won't be a serious lecture we will
004be able to have a discussion so uh we will advance tonight we will be doing an introduction of our team followed by some statistics from last school year then we will give some definitions and guidelines that we follow in nutrition services and lastly we will follow with a taste testing so that that will be exciting to get your feedback you have been provided three forums each of them line up with the three things that we will be testing which are hamburger with tater tots teriyaki chicken with fried rice and a dumpling and stuffed crust bread sticks with marinar sauce I would like to introduce our team I'm Natalie Tenny we have Christian frisbee Champion stand up she is our registered dietitian and SNS which is school nutrition ntion specialist certified and the high school supervisor
005we have Rachel Bron also SNS certified and she's the elementary school supervisor Julianne Shelton tonight is our Junior High School supervisor and lastly Michelle Shear she's our area manager and the buyer for nutrition services and so just to add she buys all of our food so Michelle is very very important yes it involves a lot of begging okay she's good at it so uh we do have a strong leadership team and it is our passion to feed as many students as we can every day and and they put a lot of hard work into also preparing the food tonight so thank you next our statistics uh for the 23 24 school year since that's over and we have all of the data reported uh we served over 2.2 million lunches to students and we served
006over 500 ,000 breakfast to students so that doesn't include catering or staff or anything just students of the 1.1 million students in Arizona that are eligible for free and reduced meals we have 10,250 of those students in our government public schools district and so uh it is very important that we're able to uh let them use those benefits and that they want to eat our lunches and then also we get 51 cents from the US SDA which is the United States Department of Agriculture even for students who are not qualified for free reduc meals so if they are uh eligible for paid meals we still get 51 cents to help keep uh contribute to the cause and help keep the lunch prices lower GPS nutrition services is a $15 million operating entity with over 200
007employes and we are the largest restaurant in town no one else serves this many Mees um these [Applause] days plus we are the cleanest restaurant in town all the Health Inspectors say they would eat off our floors that's how clean our okay we would like to go over what it constitutes a reimbursable meal so the USDA will only give us money for a full combo meal we will start with breakfast students must choose at least three of the four offered components at breakfast the components are grains fruit and vegetable fluid milk and meat and protein protein is not required per the USDA meal pattern but GPS offers it at breakfast for a more balanced breakfast to help fuel the students for learning so um if someone doesn't have the necessary components on their plate then
008the person working the cash register will send them back to get them what they need and if they say well I don't want to eat it then we say you can share it with a friend or put it in the share table it just has to be taken so that we can apply for the meal reimbursement um and that's another reason we do offer versus serve is there's more chance someone will eat it if it's something they chose like if they don't like cucumbers but they like bell peppers they would eat the thing that they take um on the horizon starting July 1st 2025 the USDA has some rules in regards to sugar content they will be decreasing added sugars uh limiting them to 6 G or less in cereals 10 gam or less in
009flavored milks and 12 gr or less in yogurt so good news is we are already completely in compliance on the cereals and the flavored milk we are already below that limit the yogurt we are going to continue to monitor the formulations and see what happens because um with the USD and the change in the government Administration they might have a different under secretary or different um timelines and meal patterns let's move on to lunch students must choose at least three of the five offered lunch components and one component must be fruit or vegetable so we offer meat and protein grains which must contain at least 51% whole wheat fruit which can be fresh frozen or 100% fruit juice vegetables during the week the colors matter so over the week we have to offer so many
010red orange vegetables dark green starchy legum or other other would be something like cauliflower that's white um so there's all kinds of categories so we're not going to just put out let's say carrots and that's your vegetable every single day there there is variety and different uh nutrients and colors provided fluid milk we must offer different varieties which includes the fat level fat free 1% things like that and then also flavors so uh the fat content can con constitute a variety and same with the different flavors different flavors Flav the flavors so we do have chocolate and strawberry milk but they have to be fat free if you have white it can be 1% or it can be fat free but they also have some waivers in place that you can do 2% or whole
011for white milk only and if you look in the grocery store our our milk was reformulated with lower sugar so it's not the same chocolate milk that you would get at the grocery store and I taste tested them side by side both creamy chocolate milk I couldn't tell the difference in the reduced sugar one can you say that again which part the thing about milk at the store so Shamrock is the dairy where we get our milk from and they reformulated our chocolate and strawberry milk to have l L sugar in them so that we could meet the guidelines and then we had a taste testing we went to their facility in Phoenix and we drank side by side the chocolate milk with the full sugar like you get in the grocer store and then
012our chocolate milk and I couldn't tell a difference and what was what what did they add to it to get that flavor if not sugar so I think it's just the the cocoa powder without added sugars because there's already natural sugars in milk so it's already got sugar in it so they just didn't add as much okay and we changed that back in October of last year and the students haven't seemed to notice okay thank you you're welcome they didn't add like weird chemicals or anything that's that's that's the concern is that if you're going to make something fat free or you're going to make something sugar free it still has to be palatable and so you've got to put other things in there usually you know chemicals or you know synthetics that you know
013are not not I mean we're all going to die someday anyway right well and I can provide you with the label I'd be happy to email you the label because I believe they just didn't have to add as much sugar you I mean it's I trust you and your Jud yeah it tasted normal and also I think um our students their pallets are getting used to this I mean um when oh it's been probably 2010 I remember um you worked for the district but it was Deborah Debbie M Debbie and she was telling me how they were working to fulfill those um more nutritious requirements and really working on that to make it tasty to the kids but I think the kids are really um over time have really gotten used to it and they
014and it's a delicate balance because the healthy hunger kids frea was passed in 2010 wasn't fully enforced till 2012 and the interesting thing about it is the students that started younger by the time they got to Junior High and high school they were taking more fruits they were taking more vegetables cuz they had been trained and used to it so it it has had positive effects but you're right you can get so strict that they're just going to throw it away so yeah no um any other questions yeah I have got a question about this you're on this slide are you on the sodium slide yet we're that's our one that we're coming up on yes okay then I'll wait can I um can I ask Natalie can you uh can you share um the
015the uh water replacement for milk story um Regarding why we don't have water as an option for our reimbursable meals yes I can so the water doesn't credit towards anything in a meal because there is no nutrients in it so it is zero calories and it is just water so we do have per nslp which is the national school lunch program guidelines we do have to have water fountains or a bottle fill or allow students to bring water bottles uh so that water is available however they will not credit towards anything in our meal and we don't get reimbursed anything for the water so we would still have to offer the milk we would still have to offer all the juices and then the water would be in addition but we do sell water bottles
016uh if anyone wants one and it seems like most of our campuses teachers and administration are really good about reminding students and parents hey make sure your child has a water bottle with them at school and so well they all love those metal ones right it stays cold all day and they got cute stickers on them and you know they personalize them adorable some of the water is like half the size of their body so so I I do see them drinking those yeah so um uh we will be moving on to the sodium levels so on the horizon uh we did start on July 1st of 2023 with sodium level 1A which is combined breakfast and lunch K through 5th it's less than 111 milligrams per day and that is averaged over a week
017so if one day you had 12200 then you'd have to have less or if one day is 800 you could have more a different day but it has to average for the day and that's for two meals then 6 through 8th is less than 1225 mg and 9th through 12th is less than 1280 mg and just to put it in perspective the American Heart Association recommends that heart patients consume less than 2300 milligrams of sodium per day because ingesting high levels of sodium can lead to heart problems Strokes kidneys problems or high blood pressure Etc so with these levels for breakfast and lunch if you were to take uh let's say k through 5th and double it you're still below the 2300 so they still have plenty of milligrams left for dinner or after school
018snacks Etc so these are already pretty um strict so uh they want to go to the next Target level in 2027 but again that is quite a far ways out so they're waiting to see what the manufacturers can make and also uh the administration if they decide to uh do away with the next Target or even delay it to 2030 there are too many unknowns in that so we're just staying within the Target that we are allotted right now but uh it is something that we are constantly monitoring and aware of do you have a any kind of comparison like a fifth a k through fifth grade breakfast less than 1110 mg of sodium what what what can I compare that to like what is what is a MCG griddle how much sodium does a
019MCG griddle have in it or how much sodium does a does a a packet of you know oatmeal have in it so this is going to be 1110 for breakfast and lunch and that's right can I get Christian could you come in real fast so what we do is we put all of our menus into a software system and it analyzes and it's green if you're within the limits yellow if you're right about and then red if you're over do you have just off the top of your head what is about our average sodium amount for a breakfast at our schools she would know she's the one who loads them into the computer us if there's like uh Tater tops it's usually a little bit higher but what's a normal day like I usually about
0204 500 4 or 500 Mig and then he said let's say you were to go to McDonald's and get like a MCG griddle or something the lots more than that yeah I mean I can I can look it up right now but I'm telling you um ours are very low for still things that are palatable for the students okay here so MC griddle according to Google has 1,00 MGR of salt in it wow which that would be your total for breakfast and lunch already and that's not when you add hash browns and other things to go with it do you see what I'm saying yeah so that was actually a very good question thank you it Illustrated it very well so yeah so she keeps close track on that and I can actually give one
021more example if we have time please so we we met with some people who make ketchup packets and they were saying you know we want you to be able to have less sodium in your ketchup packets so here's the company we use red gold and these are the sodium packets and so they said we have some that says naturally balanced ketchup that has 31% less sodium in it and I squirted this and squirted this and without even anything just with my finger taste it and it tasted exactly like ketchup and so we' already switched to the naturally balanced ketchup so that we're saving sodium just on our condiments so it's little things like that where they hide extra sodium that that could push us over the limit but but it tastes exactly like ketchup so
022we're trying our best to give the kids things that the students would like to eat but also is healthy for them because we could have the healthiest meals in the world but if they won't eat them it's not helping fuel them for learning so our challenge is how do we meet the stringent nutrition standards and still maintain or increase student meal participation the answer is fly it in bnie t conduct taste test so we take all the brands that um make food that fits within the guidelines and we conduct taste testing starting in August through December and we do it in our office and then we go out to the schools and taste test with the students the products uh like Bonnie said everyone has an adult palette I still have a young child palette
023so if I like it usually the elementary students like it we always we always make fun of her yeah it's but at least I know what they like so it's it's important tonight we will be taste testing hamburgers with tater tots teriyaki chicken with fried rice and dumplings and stuffed crust sticks with marinara sauce could our staff please bring in the hamburger with tater tots can I can I ask one question about the taste test you're going out to the schools and so the students are getting to taste do we I know at least one opportunity when you did it in evening and families could come out and parents so we did that at Gilbert High one year and that was very successful the students seem to be very honest um you'll say did you
024like it and they'll tell you and then you'll say would you eat it again and even if they said they liked it sometimes they say absolutely not um today Rachel went out to Carol Ray Ranch Elementary and they taste tested Rachel yeah what did you taste test okay they looked really cute okay and she had a clipboard and she went around cuz you know if they hear what their friends say if you say did you like it if their friend says no then they're all going to say no so we individually walk up to each one what did you think of it would you order it would you eat it again and it overwhelmingly performed well this uh so that's how we do it we also some times do head-to-head like two kinds of pizza
025and we'll say a or b and they won't know which is which and then whichever one gets more marks then we'll maybe test against a different one while you're eating the hamburger potater TB let's discuss some details about it this is the actual bun that we serve in the schools this is 51% whole wheat it's a white wheat so it it looks and tastes more like white bread but it is whole green uh this is from wholesome then this pad is from integrated foods which is regional from California and it has the grill marks and what we like about this burger is it's clean label it has less than five ingredients so it only has four ingredients it has beef 100% ground beef water less than 2% salt and natural smoke flavor that's it so
026and I liked the bite of it cuz there's a lot of uh clean label burgers out there this one has a good bite to it it's not spongy or springy grill marks not Sharpie no these are these are Fresh Off The Grill then of note and and uh of well we gave you guys the real ketchup oops of note is the tater tots uh we have to use domestic so these are of course us potatoes and we bake them in the oven we do not deep fry them so it saves a lot of grams of fat they're still pretty crunchy so on form number one does the hammerer and tater tots look appetizing you could say yes or no and then if there's something especially about it you can write next to the yes looks
027great or no I hate the grill marks like you can put specifically why if you want chicken wings so we have boneless wings that we serve in the junior high and high schools and we have two flavors we do the sweet barbecue sweet baby RIS and we also do Buffalo which is spicy so they're like sweet or spicy how much competition is for these hamburgers is there a lot of hamburger hamburger um oh yes lots and so so the taste testings resulted in this particular one for for this year so we do change it up sometimes we get menu fatigue or we taste one and we're like oh this one's way better we don't just stay loyal to one R we are constantly testing to see what's the best even at food shows mhm yeah
028yep then do you like the taste of the hamburger do you like the taste of the tater tots I like the hamburger nothing about it no critique about the burger the tots I'm not a fan of I think they need more crunch but I don't think you I don't think you get that unless you do primy Ian maybe so they were kind of so so they are very plain yes there sodium's not you know high in these they can't be she even heard her say when we have any of the dots within it upset but um when they're held in the warmer so we had out there in the warmer they get a little mushier than right when they first come out of the oven so we batch cook it at the school so that
029they're constantly pulling out new trays and I like to joke with the students I'm like oh we just ran out and I'm like no and then I bring all new CH I'm like you get the hot fresh ones and then they get all excited ready do you feel ready to move on to the next one okay delicious here's a picture so we wanted to show what it looked like on the plate so here you just have a couple of the components but up there they have the jello with fruit in it they have the celery they have the tater tots which they get nine tater tots we only did four cuz this isn't dinner this is just a sampling and then uh the burger so that picture was taken at fle Farms Elementary okay next
030thank you um I have a while we're bringing the next selection out and that is how do we I mean obviously we get these Foods prepared they come into our kitchens how what is the process from there to getting it to the students plate having it nice and hot so depending what the item is some items are more labor intensive and require more baking so like our cinnamon rolls we make from dough the garlic cheesy bread sticks from dough our dinner rolls from dough a lot of that needs to be proofed cooked and then served um the hamburgers come in Frozen we put it on the tray we put the uh foil over to keep it steamed keep the moisture in then it goes straight in the warmer then right before lunch service they put
031it on the buns then we cover it with Saran Wrap to keep it moist and put it back in the warmer and then start taking it out and depending on the school and how high their count is they may have to batch cook and continuously be made making more cuz we just don't always have sound like a lot of work yeah it's a lot of work but it's fun yeah we definitely don't get bored we're busy the whole time okay now we'd like to move on to teriyaki chicken with fried rice and dumpling uh you should have it now in front of you good uh we do have a lot of competition for the Asian chicken uh Entre and so this one is Yang's fifth taste out of California um we did a lot of
032taste testing with like Asian Food Solutions Chef's Corner a lot of different Schwans and this yangs keeps winning The Taste testings we also added we used to just do brown rice with the Asian um Cuisine and now we have a fried rice from Schwans this comes in with the veggies in it and everything it has a nice color and nice seasoning meets all the sodium requirements and everything and then we also to make it even more fun we added the Asian dumpling which we tried uh not July 24 but 23 and it was brand new it has white meat chicken and veggies inside and the students get three of these for a serving they can have one scoop of rice and three of these plus their meat or they can have two scoops of rice
033no dumplings and the meat because the dumpling counts as the grain well when I go out like I was at cample birdie High School the other day 90% of the kids say dumplings they don't say to skipser occasionally today at MOS Junior a couple said no dumplings but most people want it it's so good and it's drizzled with a little bit of orange sauce which we do at the school every day Natalie told me a story today so they they alternate with the fried rice versus the white rice mhm whenever they serve the white rice they always serve it with a dumpling when they serve the the fried rice because it's a little bit more um they don't they leave off the dumplings so the kids would come up and look that it was um
034fried rice but there weren't any dumplings and so it appeared that they didn't like the fried rice when actually they wanted the dumpling and the manager said get rid of that fried rice cuz they just walk away so I went there I said well cuz you don't have the dumpling they were looking if they were the dumplings that day that's right so it's kind of funny right so that's another thing they definitely vote with their feet they're not going to come in line if they don't want yeah so go ahead and fill out your form see if you like this and then tell us about the uh chaki chicken that you don't serve it at the high schools right mm so we used to alternate orange chicken and teraki chicken at the high schools Junior
035highs and elementaries we still alternated at the elementaries but the junior high and high school kids got tired of the Teriyaki they want orange chicken so we alternate now orange chicken and general so chicken at uh the Asian line and then one day a week we do the Boneless Wings which also are made by this same company so that way they're getting the the things they like in secondary whereas the elementary kids still love both flavors it's just interesting that they differentiate grade levels CU everyone's different every get older your palette gets more the the secondary seems to like the breading on the chicken I think that's why they want the crispiness of the breading yeah I've heard some when I went to that superintendent council meeting with the students they said can't we just
036have orange chicken every day so it is very popular it is one of our most expensive menu items so you know it's one of our most expensive but super well- loved well I go to the restaurant that I go to depending upon what I feel like eating that day so same thing I'm going to go and do nutrition services as long as I can have the terak chicken the orange chicken she likes the ter I love the sauce and the Teriyaki I sometimes don't even eat the teriyaki chicken I just get the rice and put the sauce on it it's that good so um these Asian dumplings are new from Schwan ons and they are whole grain which that is very rare to see in um Asian Cuisine they also called pot stickers and we
037did test those when we did that night at Gilbert High but then Co hit and they had supply issues and they weren't making it so now that we can get our hands on it the students really like it the pot stickers are good they are delicious that's the first time I've ever had them so then we were able to post a picture for you of uh the plate and these are actual students in line holding their plates this is Elementary tray of teriyaki chicken at Valvista lakes and then the junior high we serve it in a fiber Bowl because they like it as an Asian Bowl the elementary kids are like how dare my Foods touch each other why would you mix it like that they don't want that and then there's crying so we
038don't have that so mtin so we make sure that it's the Asian bowls for secondary and they like that and then uh on the tray in the elementary food can't touch an elementary school they're they're not quite ready for that which is fine okay next staff could you please bring in our next item all right now do I tell them yeah you tell I took Bonnie to Desert rid high and she ate these and loved them so much she said they had to be on the list for tonight this is the stuffed crust bread sticks with marinar sauce we do get sometimes uh parents and Community calling in going stuffed crust bread sticks it sounds like you're just having like a cracker with cheese on it or something what is that because the name is
039a little misleading but that's what it truly is it's a crust with um crusted on Parmesan cheese whole grain whole wheat 51% with a marinar sauce for dipping elementary students get two and students get three been delicious I had two and I wanted more she did you can dip it this sauce is so good this marinara is delicious and these bread sticks are delicious sauce is quite good that's delicious thank you juliia so this is a a bread stick with the cheese on it it's not like those fried mozzarella sticks mm- you're right that's misleading too so it's like a a breading like a pizza crust and a 100% real mozzarella cheese inside with the whole green breading we cook it till the parmesan gets a little bit Brown so that they're not doughy and
040then you can dip it in the marinara sauce and um these are a student favorite uh students who have graduated still come and ask me they say do you still serve the cheesy bread sticks I say yes oh can I come to lunch one day and have those like people from the neighborhood ask me that all the time my own daughter she's 21 she's like man I missed your cheesy bread sticks interesting note is we used to only serve these in the elementary schools and I love them and I was like let's try them in the junior high they loved them cuz they just remember them from sixth grade they didn't want to drop them and then uh this year we started two days a week having them in the high school and they love
041them Stu so they're going over very well sort of like um so Julianne came here from California yes and before we were not serving we were not serving the um the the bat chicken nuggets at Halloween to the junior house just Elementary we're only serving them at elementary she says no this the are seventh graders they were they were in elementary last year they're going to love them sure enough they they love them in the junior high so they started that this year they want to grow up but they don't they they do they're somewhere in between but I mean it's not made of bat it's made of chicken but they all like to say oh they like in the junior high they like to say it's made of bat I was worried there yeah
042they like to think it's made of bats and then they get all excited and right they love your bat nuggets Julian absolutely and she's going to do the hard shap nuggets at Valentine's Day too for the junior high for the junior highs CU they want it that was a great idea Julian you go well great idea well these were very good this is my fa the stuff bread sticks is my favorite I usually don't enjoy dipping foods and marinara sauce um as my as my figure would would verify R um but this was very good it thick and it's chunky see and taste the tomatoes in there second episode of chop that was really good yeah I like it I love it thank you this is the one challeng yes yes yes I'm glad you
043liked them so then we also gave a picture of We we played it set it on the counter and took a picture of the stuffed crust sticks in a fully reimbursable combo meal one picture at Gilbert Elementary and the other at Highland High School so as you can see the high schoolers get three of them and the elementary get two oh that's that was my problem I went to the elementary I should have gone to the high school well yeah Christian says no they only get two in elementary okay then we decided since uh were not at the schools today that we would show pictures of the students in line getting their meals so if you can see on the left it's the hamburger meal at an elementary school and they have all the components
044on their plate so the hamburger is two components because it's the grains and the protein then they have the tater tots for vegetables that looks like one student has uh Peppers the other has cucumbers and then look at their fruit they have juice milk is optional you do not have to take it so um if they were missing any component then the cafeteria employee would have sent them back to you know please choose a fruit or would you like a juice they would encourage them on something to make it a complete meal and then the stuffed crusts at the high school they have a complete meal and then um because we don't do the terak at the high school I put the Boneless Wings picture so you could see that it has the ranch and
045the celery sticks and the bread and the potato edges for the vegetable well what's for dessert well that would not be in the rules that was a test thank you trick question right so if you I just want to say Natalie uh you have done a phenomenal job your team it's obvious just by uh the things that you say how you conduct business and you're always looking to do what's best for our kids and all of you and um it's just thank you so much for that it is it's extraordinary and you're just a pleasure to be around and that makes all the difference in the world and so thank you for that well I have to say um I've been to some of those uh Southeast Schoolboard consortiums and also at asba and there
046are some companies that are working to get the school districts to Outsource to them to provide the meals and I say we don't need that because we do a fabulous job and I really appreciate it yeah well thank you it's more of a challenge because we do have a lower free reduced percentage so uh some of these companies it's about the bottom line and they'll just give some something whereas we really have to earn the students business for them to want to buy our meals but you do that when you go out and ask them how's the food what do you like what do you don't like what can we do better and um you know I'm sure they probably don't even get that at home sometimes here you go not at my I know
047I never got that so that's that's what I'm talking about you guys care about what you do you're not just nutrition services I don't think people quite understand of what you have to do to make make a balanced meal for these kids every single day and I won't even begin to understand it but it's not just okay we're going to have corn we're going to have potatoes and we're going to have meat good luck it's that's not the case so thank you guys thank you to all of you well these ladies they all work in the district office here right and if you're there at 8:00 you're you're usually not going to find anyone there because they're out at the schools we're going to say it's breakfast because it's breakfast time because they're helping to
048serve and the we always have absence absences and these individuals are always out there making sure that they're supporting the program and Natalie has taken me on several tours and it's amazing she'll see something and she'll just step right in and she gets on the line and starts serving I think it's amazing when you have leaders that are willing to get their hands sturdy and get right into it and Coach the staff as they're doing it it's it's really nice to watch it's really a good team thank you well thank you very much for the presentation and for the food it was great I feel like um like our students are very lucky and the fact that over a well about a third of our students are on the the free and reduced uh nutrition
049program and I imagine some of those might not eat much at home and so the fact that they can come to school and not only get nutrition but get really good food is probably a highlight of the day for many of them and uh and and I just applaud your the effort the the thought thoughtfulness um the care uh the science that goes into all this I think is just topnotch and I think that uh we're very fortunate in Gilbert Public Schools to have uh all of you specifically so thank you very very much thank you it's our pleasure can we give him a round of applause that was really that's a big leap from what I had when I was in school it was wonderful thank you is there anything else okay we'll go
050ahead and adjourn the work study portion of our meeting tonight again thank you very very much okay uh and we'll move on to our brief board business meeting and I'll call this meeting to order and ask Miss Wilson to uh do a roll call please Mr Chad Thompson here Mrs Lori wood here Mrs Jill humph here miss Ronda paage is not present Mr Thompson you have a quorum thank you very much Miss Wilson moving on to agenda item number six the consent agenda item it for consideration discussion Direction and possible approval is there a motion to uh approve the consent agenda items as outlined on the agenda tonight so moved thank you Miss Humphries is there a second second thank you Miss Wood and I'll call for a vote all those in favor of approving
051the consent agenda items as outlined in tonight's agenda say I I and any opposed do we have to say that any opposed if if everybody here says I not necessarily the ghost of Gilbert Public Schools wants to chime in okay okay all right think just makes it clear though you know yeah just in case just just so you don't get out of the habit of asking gotcha because there might once in a while be a somebody with a different opinion no not me not us all right thank you moving on to uh agenda item number seven the action items items for consideration discussion Direction and possible approval 7.01 superintendent evaluation instruments and performance pay measures and weights Dr McCord thank you Mr uh Thompson governing board members uh I bring before you tonight uh just
052the performance pay and evaluation instrument for the 2425 school year this is things we went through during executive session all right uh is there a motion to approve 7.01 the superintendent evaluation instruments and performance pay measures and weights that we re that we uh reviewed in our executive session want to do it sure I move that we approve the superintendent evaluation instruments and performance pay measures and weights as we went over in our executive session tonight thank you very much is there a second so move oh sorry second second thank you very much uh is there any discussion on 7.01 I think I just want to mention that this is the way that we work with our superintendent to have him lay out some goals for us and then we Monitor and at the end
053of the year when when he's showing us his performance and we approve those goals and we've approved the goals then we approve the performance pay so I think just letting the public know about that that we have a plan and we're working our plan thank you all right I will call for a vote all those in favor of approving 7.01 superintendent evaluation instruments and performance pay measures and weights all those in favor say I I I any opposed okay uh 7.02 revision to fiscal year 2024 annual financial report Dr mccort thank you Mr Thompson governing board members this uh fiscal year 2024 revised annual financial report is revised to accurately reflect unrestricted capital and maintenance operations Revenue unrestricted Capital Revenue was originally reported in the M fund and uh the Revis sells on the attachments
054are on page one line 29 of the AFR Bonnie is here to explain any further I believe she shot you guys an email about this agenda item so if you have any questions please feel free could you just explain it so our public understands what why we need to revise what we've done so generally speaking um the unrestricted Capital fund and the maintenance operations fund are called we should probably do a motion before we discuss okay all right is there a motion uh to approve 7.02 revision to fiscal year 2024 annual financial report I'll I'll move that uh I'll make that motion is there a second second thank you miss humph all right and now thank you sir we'd love to hear so um both the unrestricted Capital fund and the maintenance operations fund are
055considered Levy funds that means that the revenue comes in in bunches from the property taxpayer as well as from from the state of Arizona and so it is up to the school district to determine how those revenues are posted whether they go into maintenance operations or in unrestricted Capital at the time that we were reviewing the first AFR we did notice it at that point in time we didn't have time to address it and fix it before we presented to you so then after speaking about it we could have just moved the revenue and the or moved the the the current Year's Revenue accordingly um but we wanted to make sure that the fund revenues were accurately reflected and then it would it'll show up appropriately on the um annual comprehensive financial report and the
056final audit as well so that was why we did it and so we're moving the funds that were in maintenance and operation to unrestricted Capital as a better place correct for them that's correct okay yes and that's how we budgeted it too we budgeted those funds in undried capital okay thank you yeah which we'll really need because we don't have those bonds right okay is there any other questions or discussions or discussion okay uh then I will call for a vote all those in favor of the revision to fiscal year 2024 annual financial report uh all those in favor say I I I any opposed and that passes three to zero thank you very much and then just remember that we all have you to sign again so Gabby I believe you have it over
057there okay great than good reminder thank you please don't leave without signing it and I do want to say thank you uh it it's it's not um it doesn't seem like this was something that was you know breaking any laws or it was something that would would would cause Major Impact but the fact that it wasn't that and you still uh corrected it brought it to our attention um speaks volumes and just everything you do is is uh um is is not is not just um checking boxes on a financial report but um but also looking at it from uh of the students and the parents and the teachers and the staff and all that and so just thank you so much for all your hard work I know this was just a little thing
058but we really appreciate you uh um creating that atmosphere of uh transparency and completeness so thank you very much we have a great staff in the finance office as well so they were very willing as well to get that corrected yeah big shout out to your staff thank you all right that brings us to uh agenda item number eight adjournment is there a motion to adjourn tonight's brief board business meeting I move to a journ thank you Miss humph is there a second a second thank you Miss Wood all those in favor of adjournment uh please say I I any opposed and we are adjourned thank you very much thank you all very much for your input really appreciate it
