001of you have joined us here in the boardroom and those who are on live stream this evening today is tuesday january 4th 2022 this is a special organizational meeting of the gilbert public schools governing board and then we will convene a brief board business meeting as prescribed under the agenda special organizational meeting will be to elect officers for the governing board and to set appropriate calendar dates etc for each of our meetings and meeting times so with that we'll call this meeting to order and we will ask mrs wilson to please call the roll dr charles santa cruz here miss laurie wood here miss sheila eugetti here miss jill humphries here mr bill parker here mr president all board members are present you have a quorum thank you mrs wilson our first order of business
002tonight is to nominate an elect a board president and a board clerk and as we move through i will preside over the nominations relative to board president then i will relinquish my role uh to the new board president uh board president often often always acts as the leader of the governing board and cooperates and coordinates with the superintendent to set the agenda and presides over all governing board meetings also is in many respects the official face of the governing board for the district all five members have an equal vote all five members are equally important as board members this evening we will call for nominations i will read or request nominations three times as prescribed in our rules this will be the first call for board nomination for president is there a nomination dr santa
003cruz i would like to to nominate lori wood as the board president for the 2223 right thank you mr eugenie i will call for a second nomination for board president i will call for a third nomination for board president seeing that there are no additional nominations it has been stated and the nomination has been set forward for ms laurie wood to be president of the gilbert public schools governing board all those in favor please signify by saying i i those opposed the same congratulations miss wood dr santa cruz may i have a point before you do something point of order whatever it's called point of personal privilege yes that's it yes you may i i would like to say that um your leadership over the last two years has been beyond anything that that we
004can even thank you for it's been a tumultuous time everywhere in this country um we've experienced it here in gilbert and at every every turn and everything that has happened you have handled it not only professionally but with compassion and empathy and respect to our community giving everyone a voice at every time and always always being respectful to them and i can't even imagine having had anybody different during these last two years and i i i'm only speaking for myself but i see some nods so thank you dr santa cruz thank you mr eugetti for your kindness and [Applause] i will now defer and relinquish the seat to miss wood all right thank you we will continue now with the the nomination of the board clerk the role of the board clerk is to oversee

006nay i will call for a motion for the second nomination as board clerk all those in favor of miss sheila eugetti as board clerk please say aye hi those not in favor please say nay okay it looks that we will have ms sheila eugetti as the board clerk okay continuing with this special meeting we will move now to 3.01 times of meetings dr mccord did you have information for us thank you madam president governing board members traditionally we have set tuesdays as our board meeting days at 6 00 pm i think that has worked out well but this is the time when if we need to adjust it we can but i think we've we've made some adjustments in the past and i think it's worked out fairly well but i guess we all have
007to show up one way or the other so whatever you guys want to do on this one keep it the same i think the community is um in concert with what we currently do and so making that adjustment is i don't know if it's warranted or not but at the same time consistency is always good especially in a time like this okay so i believe i need a motion before we can discuss it yes i move that we continue our meeting times as we have done during the 2012 school year okay thank you dr santa cruz is our second second thank you mr parker it's been moved and seconded that we keep our meetings at the same time which is our tuesday night meetings are at 6 00 p.m and our policy meetings on the

011committee is mr bill parker insurance trust representative is mrs sheila eugetti legislative representative is dr charles santa cruz we also have the policy committee which is a committee of the whole and the enrollment management committee which is a committee of the whole as well dr dr mccord i have a question for you the liaison with the town of gilbert and the city of mesa um could you or maybe somebody give us a little bit of background in terms of the time and involved in that and what you know what requirements are or what needs to be done i know this is what you've been with mesa correct you want to talk about mesa i have i i what i have done is reached out to um councilman kevin thompson who is over that area of
012mesa that's in our school district and just tried to talk with him we've had different lunch appointments just trying to keep up on the issues that might be of concern with us in concert with them and mesa is is they're like wards or uh precincts or whatever so they they have just that one area where in gilbert it's it's at large so gilbert has a liaison the town of gilbert has a liaison is that for mr september i believe it is it's got september and so has he been meeting with you is that how it's been working no he hasn't as of late um he's fairly new to the council but he and i have had conversations um it's it's a little bit different with gilbert because just a proximity right right so um so
013anytime any councilmember needs anything they'll call me up or the town manager and we'll have conversations so a little bit different for me thank you and i think it could be whatever you wanted it to be as far as in that way okay thank you thank you dr mccord thank you for the question so i believe we'll just can we just start and ask i think everyone's done a really good job in serving what they've served on this year and i appreciate all the work is there does someone have preferences of what they would like to serve going forward um i i have served with the gilbert education foundation for two years so i think it's really important to mix it up and take a different role so if someone else is open to that
014position i'd be happy to do something else okay thank you ms wood yes i know that miss humphries has expressed an interest and passed on the legislative end of our committee work and i'd be happy to pick up the town of gilbert liaison if miss humphreys would like to occupy the liaison for i would be happy to do that dr santa cruz that would be fine thank you both we just barely approved mr bill parker to be a member of the audit committee would you like to stay in that role this year mr parker you'd be fine with that okay miss you jetty i would really like to i would like to stay on the insurance dress since i've been on it at some point other than for five years since like 1985. um and
015it's it's a there's a lot even when you think you know a lot about it there's still a lot to learn so i would appreciate being able to stay on it that's great uh mrs wood would you be interested in doing gilbert education foundation and i'll take the town of mesa mesa sure i've done the gef before but i'm happy to do it again yeah that would be great okay so i'll read these off and and then we can discuss do we need an alternative for the legislation oh yes yes let's do a proven alternative so that we don't have to then we don't have to scramble at the last meeting okay is there anybody who'd be willing to be an alternative at the legislative meeting or in other in any other ways that we
016would need it well it so this this position uh it's helpful to attend the county meeting because that's where we vote for the the county director it's helpful to attend the annual conference because that's where we vote for the executive officers for asba and also the delegate assembly it's usually the saturday of the legal conference so the first saturday in september those are the three and i think there are additional things that can be done and that i believe you said on the committee once didn't you dr santa cruz the committee of asba that puts together them yes okay so you know there's additional responsibilities if if that comes yeah but this would be an all the alternate yes it would as well so if there's someone at this time who would be willing to
