001school committee meeting for wednesday december 8th 2021 6pm we're at the johnson community center 35 pleasant street and just a reminder that for covid protocols everyone will be required to wear a mask and maintain social distancing while the meeting is in progress and while you're in the johnson center so the first thing is a call to order and roll call uh secretary johnson mossad please remember karen here vice chair eckstrom here member hollins secretary johnson mossad i'm here chair priety here remember while here mayor wiedergardner we have a quorum thank you and we call to order at 603 pm i do apologize for my voice people i'm going to do the best i can uh let's next do oh item two is uh not going to happen tonight the update from the dpw we um

002normally have marlo warner the director dpw come in when we start the snow season just to talk to us and communicate a little bit about about school closures and weather closures and things like that we will be able to have him with us in january and so our third item on the agenda is the approval of minutes two meetings november 10 november 22 of 2021. we'll take those as a group for a motion to approve the minutes from those two dates anyone chair i'm going to abstain because i wasn't here for one of them that's fine just re i'm looking for a motion first and then we can discuss so moved seconded thank you and discussion you do not have to abstain just because you were not here just a reminder but that is fine

003if that's your choice any any discussion of the minutes hearing none we'll move to a vote uh anyone uh abstaining anyone voting against anyone approving saying yes to the minutes that looks like it's unanimous to me thank you and now we're going to move into public comment i do just want to apologize for an oversight error on our part putting together the agenda most folks will not notice but our school committee policy that is printed on the agenda for comment b-e-d-h was actually approved for an update at our last meeting but the new policy did not make it into the agenda template for tonight so um our uh you as the public will likely not notice the difference but i just want to if anyone is really paying attention to what we wanted to let

004you know we're aware that's the old policy they are very similar and like i said the public will likely not notice the difference is there anyone who hasn't signed up for public comment yet that would like to you can always change your mind at the end i will give another opportunity at the end because some people get inspired by others and that's fine okay so we'll go in the order that people signed up you will come up to the seat here you'll press the button on the microphone so that it is green around the bottom there and you'll say your name and this is the town that you live in and you'll have three minutes and yes we do time it who's first okay seems a little premature for me because i wasn't sure exactly

005tell us your name and we're in your town you live my name is claudia black and i live in greenfield thank you and uh it's my understanding that there was going to be some discussion about hiring an sro for the high school here today and i wanted to voice my opinion on that um you're free to do that you have your full time to do that because i feel that if there is extra money in the coffer for hiring personnel that it would be a lot more useful to both the community and the school to hire an a counselor a psychologist an additional psychologist at the school rather than to have police officers in the school i don't think that's appropriate for the high school and you know since there's no there hasn't been any

006discussion on it i can't even uh refer to whatever somebody else was going to say about it in this regard so i feel like i'm sort of throwing this out in the air but that's my opinion in general thank you thank you you're happy we're happy to hear from you anytime and you're welcome to come and speak on any subject under the purview of the school committee so i appreciate that who's next [Laughter] we went in the back and put them in a hat and pulled them out and then you're second go ahead your name and the town you live in hi my name is rory cronin townsend i live here in greenfield and i'm a senior at greenfield high school and i also wanted to speak on this topic of an sro in the

007building um as some of you may know i was very recently awarded the superintendent's award for academic excellence and i don't say this to uh brag i just wanted to say it as like a really clear and concise way to say that i am a very good student i have very good grades and i have worked for that a lot but something that that doesn't get talked about enough is how many resources i have had access to the privilege that i have had um and the security that i have had that have allowed me to make these to make the have make these accomplishments like my father has a phd in physics and my mother is a teacher at the middle school and we have always been very secure money wise safety wise i've never

008had to work for a job and as a very privileged person school has always been a very safe environment for me and i wanted to bring these up because not every student has these things and in our society statistically speaking many many more students of color don't have access to a lot of these support systems and emotional safety at school should be the number one priority emotional and physical safety and we have seen over the past many years that the police officers in just in general in our country in many cases do not have the emotional and physical safety of people of color in mind and bringing an sro into our building bringing a police officer who is armed and in some case in many cases doesn't have the correct or an amount of training

009that allows them to get past that puts our students of color at risk and that is not something that at all is acceptable the emotional and physical safety of our students is like the number one concern and bringing an sro in is not at all it will will not promote the emotional physical safety thank you [Applause] start with your name and the town you live in you have three minutes go ahead okay um my name is avery jacobs uh i live in turner's falls but i'm also a senior at greenfield high school um i wanted to speak my opinion on having a school resource officer inside of our school's building so i wrote something and i want to speak on it greenfield high school has always had students of different backgrounds and situations many of

010these students have dealt with issues like police trauma invalidating a human's right to feel safe inside an area that is specifically meant to help educate and make them feel safe is not when a person who is armed with one to multiple weapons is allowed to walk inside a school building a fundamental barrier of safety has been breached coming from a perspective of someone who is inside ghs almost on a daily basis i can confidently state that many of our school's problems aren't police officer related anymore first off school fights don't happen nearly as often anymore as they once did at the beginning of our school year or as they did over the years and at the start of 12 19. second if there were to be a situation where there is a larger group of

011people medical needs or just students roman calls having a police officer to try and intimidate them and possibly not even take the right needed action can't be inside our educational systems also the funding for sro could be potentially used for bettering our school in ways like legitimate teacher training school issues could be solved and dealt with quicker and more efficiently by properly trained teachers and administrators rather than an armed police officer having it up inside the school could also result in younger citizens entering the criminal justice system and i doubt that parents or teachers would enjoy having a police officer being used to intimidate their children and students if we are asking ourselves what can be done to get a police officer we most definitely should be asking ourselves why cop needs to be resolving

012issues between groups of children placing one insider's school system could become an issue by itself rather than solving the issues that need to be solved it could lead to a group of students who are already looked at differently just because of their skin tone having a permanent criminal records because a resource officer escalated a situation that would have otherwise remained a school behavior issue i know that the adults inside this community don't want to add to the already terrible problem of the school to prison pipeline claims that the sro has to do follow-ups with students if investigations are conducted outside of school is basically harassment to a student while they should be inside classroom learning honestly it can become a very scary and intense feeling if a man with a weapon gets to be inside

013a building without being truly held accountable with there being an sro there's nothing oh okay sorry go ahead and wrap up oh okay all right thank you i appreciate that miss with there being an sro there is nothing written in the last memorandum from 2016 stating that the person taking that position really has to take responsibility or action for major school shootings thank you for giving me the time to wrap up thank you i appreciate that thank you avery hi i'm crystal colon and i go to the high school and i live in greenfield and i just have something that was written recently about everyone back there's feelings on having an sro without a proper principle we can't have actual training for an sro principal cavall is just an acting principle we have had previous

014incidents bad incidents with sros people are not comfortable with the previous sor sry would they be comfortable now the sro was only used as a power dynamic and a threat why did did you know that sros are not legally required to help is that okay with you guys what's the point what's the point if they won't help 91 of sros are armed and aren't required to do anything so why waste valuable resources on an sro that will make students uncomfortable in the one place that they should feel safe many of our students have trauma involving the police and when most of our issues aren't sro related inserting one would only cause more issues rather than solving the ones that we already have even our teachers are against the sro with one and i quote saying

015it's scary to think about a cop pointing a gun at my students the sro is leading students to have criminal records studies have shown time and time again that a harsh punishment is not not working either oh here we go all right um back to where i left off sure studies have shown time and time again that harsh punishments are not effective in changing a child's behavior so why would we do that to these children i always hear that it's okay to make mistakes but with an sro these children won't be able to make mistakes without the obtaining a criminal record all the sro will do is feed into the school-to-prison pipeline would your father would you rather implement a police officer in the school to frighten students and send them to jail instead of

016your recourses on other techniques and alternatives that will actually help the students learn and grow and flourish students don't drop out not as many people think many of them are pushed out either through policies or practices that make them no longer feel welcome in the barriers that the school creates in themselves and sro would cause our students to feel pushed out students won't feel comfortable in the building and will stop showing up missing out on their education all because the school felt implementing a power dynamic that feeds the school to a prison pipeline was more important than the safety and well-being of their students thank you thank you hi um my name is indy merrell and i am a sophomore at ghs here are a few prime examples of how sros abuse their power there

017have been countless acts of horrific police violence in schools one incident caught on body cam footage shows an officer shoving an 11-year-old black student against the wall another camp shows an officer putting a six-year-old black student in handcuffs while sobbing if this is how they're treating elementary schoolers why do people think and so an sro for high schoolers won't be worse in fact it has been proven to be worse a 16 year old high schooler was pinned down by three officers faced to the ground for using her cell phone in class to talk to her mother with serious medical conditions an 11th grader was punched thrown to the ground and put in a choke hold all because he went to the bathroom without a pass these are just a few examples data shows that the

018increase in arrests over the years is directly correlated to the presence of sros in schools the arrest rates of schools with sros are three to five times greater than the schools without them between 1980 and 2013 the number of people incarcerated skyrocketed from from 500 886 to 2 million plus that is an increase of 450 percent many of these incarcerations are from sro arrests the youth crime rate is on the decline but the arrests continue to rise innocent children are being severely punished due to the pleasure of school resource officers thank you andy gotta push the button all right um i going off of what andy's saying tell us tell us your name and your town first um i'm my name is zachary potek and i live in greenfield um going off before indy saying

019an sro brings up like the things that sro is doing is have have been doing is so not okay is so unjustifiable and things like that can't happen we can't let that happen in our schools regardless if we have an sro if we don't have it an sro none of us want that and an sro is traumatizing to students it can make them feel unsafe in our building even if it doesn't make you feel unsafe in our building like it wouldn't i would not feel safe with a police officer in our school if i wanted to take a walk regardless if i had a pass or not i would not feel safe with a police officer in our school and i just want you to take that into account when you make your decision on

020if we should have an sro and uh students in this school we've talked to a lot of students a majority of the students in this school do not want an sro they do not want a police officer in the building they want alternatives they want something else that we've been brainstorming as a team as a group alternatives for sros that we can suggest to you guys because we know we can't just be coming up here and say oh we don't want to so figure it out because that's just not helpful sros are cops and that needs to be taken into account they are cops with weapons thank you hello hello my name is eli um recently i haven't been in uh the high school but i was there uh i started going to a new

021school but a lot of what a lot of what i have to say about the sro has been touched upon by my group members but um [Music] the s the sro wouldn't work in in the school previously when we had an sro um there uh they didn't really do much there was a lot of productivity from what i could see and the one time that he came into the sro came into my classroom he had a gun with him and i remember being so shocked by the idea i'm in eighth grade i was so shy the idea of having this person who i know can be very very dangerous consistently we always hear about police due to their lack of training in de-escalating situations it leads to a lot of um poor situations and a

022lot of fatal situations and having that in my school knowing that in my head having that at my school was very scary especially in my classroom it was very very scary and when they left i felt more comfortable just knowing that they weren't there but now hearing about that coming back and hearing about um a lot of the poor situations that happen with police officers in school buildings especially um i start to think about like other options of um before an sro because that's safe and most schools are working on dissolving the relationship with sros in los angeles california the free lh la high school practices transformative justice which uses similar practices as restorative justice to heal from violence and prevent future violence the school has also peace also has peacekeepers on staff to help

023maintain a positive school climate and address any issues that come up among young people they also have an agreement with the local police that when they do enter the school building they do not bring their guns requiring agreements guns requiring the police to follow the same community agreements as the school committee community thank you thank you hey is that a new greenfield soccer sweatshirt yes did you just get that like yesterday i got it today actually it's really fly thank you i'm pretty jealous i appreciate it start with your name and the town you live in please my name is daniel pena chady um i live in greenfield uh one thing i wanted to bring up before i get into my main topic um we've brainstormed some um like other things that we can have

024apart from sros like we could have consular counselors and security officers or just like security like we as we said we do not feel safe having an sro in our building um if worst comes to worst for us and we are eventually required to have an sro i feel like some requirements should be they should not be armed like eli said um a lot of people have had past trauma with with um sros no i think they should not be on um and also extensive uh bio um bias training um we they should they should really be able to see like um really understand this person should go through um like like like i said extensive training and understand what we have been through in our past um because every person of color has gone

025through some kind of um thing that was not right concerning their race um i feel like um the so the sro should be required to de-escalate problems if they see one we notice in the duties and responsibilities section of the memorandum it stated that they that they are responsible for developing the escalation techniques but it doesn't require them to use them at all so we would like that to be moved over to the requirements um special training should um should also include how to disarm a student if they are if they're armed with a weapon this should also be in effect for duties and responsibilities that the sro should fulfill because a lot of these we're just in training and they shouldn't also be in that be in the um duties and responsibilities so we

026know that's in effect um i feel like also we should we should um have a clear memorandum because not everyone has like an understanding of advanced literature and i feel like for us people of color as well it is important that we know our rules because in the past same with laws we have not been able to understand and get a full understanding of these advanced um this advanced literacy that people like to use in their laws and also i feel like the students should also be involved in writing this memorandum because we are the school and we and this officer is the person that is that's supposed to be serving us we are the school and we're the face of the school so it'll be only right if we help out making this memorandum

027again for 2021 if it requires us to do that again it requires us to have a sro thank you you uh oh uh hi my name is aisha i'm from turner's falls massachusetts but i go to greenfield high school i'm a junior so i am we my group and i are very strongly against having an sro we believe that in employing an a school resource officer will do nothing except create hostile a hostile tense environment between our staff and the student body it will create a strange power dynamic where teachers now have the opportunity to send their young students into the arms of an officer a possibly armed officer when the situation when the situation at hand just required a cool down walk around the school i think that it's clear to many of us

028that there are groups within our school of students that feel very tense and stress and act out because of that when they are faced with just our like uh regular administrators in our school like our vice principal and all them um [Music] sorry can get okay so i can guarantee that when these students are brought to if we have an sro i can guarantee that these if these students are faced with that the next level of authority that the level of anxiety will increase within those students and possibly within the teachers and create an even more hostile environment in the school which will escalate violence in the school i also don't think that those same group of students really can emotionally handle having such authority in the building and especially since i say like armed

029because over 85 school sros are armed so i'm not really doubting that our sro wouldn't carry some type of weapon i don't think that that's really a safe choice for our student body because like these kids are very immature and the chances that they can get their hands on that weapon i don't want to i don't want to take that chance so i think that is all i have to say thank you thank you [Applause] that's the end of our list of public comment is there anyone else who would like to speak anyone else want to speak after that you're welcome yep so come up and sign up on the sheet if there is anyone else they should come up and go ahead you can go yes i heard the question that's it's it's it's

030unorthodox but there's nothing prevented it if you really feel like you need to speak again i would allow people who've already spoken an additional minute go ahead just state your name in the city or town you live in and you have three minutes hi my name is jessica pruitt i am a teacher at greenfield school and i live in turner's falls [Music] i i am very things are very stressful at the high school as we all know um it's it's been a really difficult school year it continues to be a difficult school year i know students have the impression that things have quieted down because we aren't calling shelter in place anymore i don't think that's necessarily an accurate description of what's happening in the building i think we're just not calling shelter in place

031anymore i think we're still dealing with many many many of the disruptions and the issues my concern with having an sro come to the building having an armed police officer coming to the building is that i am one of the adults who is having to um who walks the halls during lunch and comes across groups of two or three or five or seven students wandering the hall without supervision without anyone but oftentimes 99 percent of the time with anyone but me there to say hey where's your pass where are you going i'm not saying i'm the only teacher who does this but these kids wander the empty hallways and we are one adult at a time trying to manage them what's been happening most recently hey folks where you going we got a pass oh

032can i see it no and they book it down the hall 90s 80s terminology they run away down the hall so my concern is that an armed officer is going to see these kids running down the hall and what's what's the automatic response that an officer is going to have they're going to pull the gun and do something horrible you cannot bring someone with a weapon into this school these kids are very tender they're very delicate and they're very sensitive and they're so difficult to manage so very very difficult they are not going to respond to a police officer they're not responding to teachers they're not going to respond to a police officer my choice is to call the office and let the administration handle it a police officer is going to have other choices

033and those choices are not good for our kids they're not good for my child that goes to the school they're not good for any of the students that i work with we cannot have someone with a gun in the building it's no please no think about this also what is one police officer gonna do like the kids are wandering the halls that's been three minutes thank you i'll finish my statement the kids are wandering the halls one adult is not going to make a difference we've had parents say we'd like to come in and work the lunch hour let's screen those parents let's get bodies in the building please not police officers thank you hang on one second are the only people signed up people who have already spoken if anyone wants to speak that

034has not already spoken i'm going to ask that they go first okay and the four students who have already spoken i'm going to remind you will give you just one minute to respond go ahead it's your name and the town you live in please thank you very much my name is brian hayes i live in greenfield sir i need the mask to be over your nose or you cannot continue to speak thank you my name is brian hayes i live in greenfield i've lived in greenfield for almost 20 years i'm sorry to interrupt you again but there's no way anyone at home can hear you you need to move the microphone closer that's what it's it's for the folks at home it's not for this room thank you so i i'm trying to i'm trying

035to face back here because i also i i appreciate what the kids are saying and i just want to uh feel free to move your body so that you can see them so um sro no sro whatever whatever the situation is what we we need to do is overlook a very important challenge which is just personal responsibility and taking responsibility for our actions taking responsibility for our friends becoming a better community we won't need an sro we don't need teachers worrying about kids running down the halls because they're doing the right thing um that's what we need is parents to step up and say hey kid do the right thing um and and whether or not there are are pieces in place to help facilitate that with parents with communication between parents and teachers teachers

036and children whatever it is it's not an argument over you know who has the guns it's an argument over who's taking responsibility for their own actions and there's a lot of finger pointing going on and you know it needs to be coming back on us right we need to take responsibility for ourselves we need to take responsibility uh for for whatever it is that is the challenge um you know we can self-police we can step up and tell our peers hey that's wrong don't do that don't put a chair in the ceiling at the bathroom please um you know that's how you get freedoms that's how you get leeways that's how you grow as a community and a group of of of students and teachers and parents we all try and do best we can

037and take personal responsibility in it so i appreciate what the board does and the teachers and and i most appreciate what the students are doing i have four kids in in the greenfield high school middle school um so i see it from four different perspectives five my own and you know bottom line is we all need to take some personal responsibility thank you anyone else who signed up or would like to sign up who has not already spoken will take those first go ahead your name and your town first yeah greenfield carlos pena so you know i just want to say that i think that if we're going to have uh sro in the school i think we should have some kind of a provision where stu well first of all sol should not have

038a weapon in school i mean that's just a total hypocrisy right especially if they're not going to be tasked with putting down an active shooter there's absolutely no reason for for anybody to have a firearm in a school this isn't a jail it's a school in case anybody forgot um but i think if they're going to put an sro unarmed in the school there should be a provision where like students can if they feel that there's something really unjust or unfair that the sro is doing that the students can have some kind of an authority that if they form enough of a contingent the sro must step down right that they should be able to say look there's more of us and we feel what you're doing is wrong you must step down immediately okay

039i don't think i think the school belongs to the kids to the children to the young adults period they don't belong to an sro they don't belong to anybody with a firearm they don't belong to any of the adults they belong to the children this is where they spend a lot of their time they grow up it's their place so if they feel like this sro isn't doing good they should be able to stop whatever's going on whether it's an arrest or whether it's like something that uh disciplinary that that's being done to a student they should be able to step in as long as they form a contingent and and they and that person must stop and i think that should apply whether it's um a non-sro somebody working for the school or an

040sro because children or let's just say children young adults need to learn that the spaces where they spend most of their time they should have some control over it i mean this is like really uh important for the future i mean people are going every day to places where they spend and give their their blood sweat and tears and they have no control over this there's no democratic control over their work spaces whatsoever their workspaces are demanding 210 percent from people with nothing in return and this has to stop first in the school with young people they need to understand that their spaces they should have a strong saying control over what happens in their spaces and if they're being if their rights are being violated absolutely they should be able to there should be

041a provision a law a rule that this person must step down and see or yield to the student body all right because let's be real i mean you know when people's rights systematically get violated and violated and nobody's listening to them when they try and go through these established democratic processes and then the the established processes for making changes they're really left with nothing else to do except do what nobody wants them to do which is to get physical so we should provide that for them because it's a learning experience that once they learn that when they're younger they're never going to forget it and it's positive it's non-violent and it's democratic and productive so i don't think if you have an sro absolutely no guns but there should be a provision that students control

042their schools and their spaces not some sro and not even some administrators i think it's their space ultimately that you spend a significant amount of their time there and that's what i wanted three minutes [Applause] anyone else wanting to speak who has not already spoken okay so our folks who are asking to speak for a second time again one minute for additional comment i would suggest if you would we do not you worry go ahead and sit down if you all that want to speak again would kind of get yourselves up to save the time of everyone moving yeah there you go you know maybe stand over here that would be awesome thank you okay go ahead worry of one minute okay thank you so i just really quickly wanted to add that you've been

043hearing a lot tonight from my fellow classmates about like the horrible things that sros have done in the past and that statistically or they have that that are very common and i did just want to add that um even if you decide on to hire an sro and have a very very careful screening process and you hire someone that you are very confident will not be violent and will not escalate situations the fact that they are an sro that they are a police officer is still going to make so many students so emotionally uncomfortable that it is not worth it at all like even if nothing actually gets blown out of proportion the sacrificing the emotional security of our students of color who have had traumatic experiences or have these very real fears of police

044officers sacrificing their emotional security for the comfort of the privilege is not acceptable thank you thank you [Applause] go ahead okay so um earlier today uh there was a very serious situation that we're not going to talk about any specific it's not anybody specific um it was a situation where some teacher had said the n-word to ace we're not going to talk about any specific incidents that i believe is a specific incident we're not going to discuss it here why why not that is not appropriate for a school committee meeting it's potentially um i'm sorry but that that's a very serious topic to talk about it is a very serious topic to talk about which is why it's not appropriate to talk about it here that's my final request you can talk about something else

045why why i'm confused miss this isn't this is very something serious this is a specific incident that you're referring to that is under investigation high school chair our policy allows people to speak to us for the amount allotted on it for any topic that is under the purview of the school committee i'm not going to allow something to be discussed that may be a personnel issue it puts commitment i mean sro at our school is a personal issue to a lot of our students personally a concern in terms of limiting the speech of the individual on an important topic it also puts the school committee at legal risk in terms of freedom speech issues so i think we just have to follow our process which we have written down you have allowed people one minute

046to speak under any topic of the school committee's purview and just allow them the one minute thank you let me give you an example if you just said something really generic as opposed to um specific so a teacher may have said something that was inappropriate or or you understand that someone did say something that was inappropriate you don't want to use any specific words or times or anything like that because we don't want to be we don't want the public to be able to identify those specific people involved well i wasn't going to say because up until unless something is proven it's alleged and so you want to just be really really generic about the words that you use is that helpful you can speak generally about how you feel that's what i was planning

047on doing you can't use specifics of any incident okay all right so and this starts your one minute right now okay something terrible happened inside of our school today um something a very serious topic um something used to belittle a specific group of people i guess um and i just wanted to say that that it's not okay that that um somebody who may like work inside of our school gets to say that without having a consequence that's really all that i needed to say because it's definitely a tough topic to speak about and i completely understand what you're what you're saying i i don't mean to disrespect you by talking about this topic i just felt disrespected when this happened so i just wanted to let the school committee know that this is this is

048what is happening and going on inside of our daily lives at this school so um yeah thank you for letting me sleep on it that was perfect thank you go ahead regardless of what did or did not happen today adults inside of our building that are supposed to be watching us supposed to be teaching us supposed to be educating us cannot say things like that adults inside of our building have to watch themselves we need something for a proper response to if serious situations occur and the school needs to do better like we've had to fight we've had to fight hard for to get to be heard every day that can't happen anymore and the school need change thank you [Applause] um i just want to say that i really hope that you guys take

049what we're seeing saying seriously because as you all know we actually go to the school we sit there in those classes we hear those announcements we hear the screams in the hallways we hear what's going on and we feel those emotions and as a teenage girl i don't think i should be getting scared every time the beeping on the intercom goes off because i think there's another lockdown or i think that there's a shooter in the building because it's not being handled students aren't under control because there's just no proper training on how to de-escalate situations and i don't know i think that that comment off of that thing i read of the teacher saying i don't want to hear i don't want to see my gun pointed out my student really resonated with me

050and it stayed with me because it's true no one wants to see that no one wants to go to school where there's going to be someone that's going to be armed and possibly hurt you um on the topic of mental that's one minute on the topic of mental health this is really short i've watched as students that aren't of color can just uh i had a bad day do you want to talk to someone do you want to speak someone do you want to talk to guidance you want to go see someone hey come on let me go take you there i watched today as one of my peers of color cried a normal human response to something frustrating he cried and i watched five teachers surround him as if he was an armed person

051that was going to hurt someone and i watched as he was socially profiled where was the mental health offered there in that situation why was it that immediately teachers were called and rushed to go circle around the student while as a person not of color can just sigh and they can get mental help offered to them that's all i want to say and i want you to think about that [Applause] [Music] hi again um i'm indy and i want to say we are the movement for black lives matter well the movement black lives and i we will keep coming back we won't stop because we're not going to put up with this sit with these situations at our school because this is just unjust and it's not okay and i care about the students in

052my school i'm new i just moved here i'm the new kid right this is not how this is like embarrassing like this used to be the school that people transferred to now it's a school that people are transporting out transferring out of let's put in the work let's let's be try to treat each other equal and it's not just about team playing it's about it's about the team okay i know that's like cliche but i'm just it's really upsetting uh like when when students are racially profiled when students are treated differently just because of their skin color just because their sexual orientation and it's just not okay and we will keep coming back we will keep talking we will keep fighting we'll keep crying on the stage we will keep getting our one that's one

053minute we will keep coming back so yeah we're gonna come back thank you andy okay i am going to cut off any new additional comments so toby may speak and then anyone else who wants one additional minute to speak we do have to move on with the agenda go ahead toby hi what's it what town do you live in i'm toby finley and i've lived in greenfield my whole life so i know a lot of the people here and i grew up with most of them and my view on the sro is that it's not gonna change the behavior of students it's just gonna make more of them scared and men's like you guys claim to care about the mental health of our students and like wanna praise and whatever but i don't see anything

054being done like instead of choosing to get a new counselor or someone who can help our students mentally you're choosing to think about getting an sro which is like the opposite i feel like like you're choosing to pick a figure who's going to instill fear into our students instead of someone who can actually help them and adding on to a few other people said i do notice that me as a white person is often even when i'm not upset they are coming to me to ask me if i need help more than they are a person of color they are so fast to get anybody else help if they are not a person of color and it's just sort of like maybe you should focus on the mental health aspect more instead of an sro

055which we don't need it's just sort of prioritizing that's all i got thank you thank you is there anyone else go ahead hello um i would just like to say that um instead of planning for what an sro can do you should be planning for how we're going to build stronger community within our school stronger student-to-teacher relationships because if we bring in someone new with that kind of power it's again going to just disrupt everyone's like feeling of safety in any type of situation whether you're for or against it you're gonna have like a background thing in your head that's telling you um that something could happen or with some other kid or with you and the sro so i think our main focus as a school should be to build better student-to-teacher connections because

056i remember my friend telling me the other day that no one feels like they can talk to each other in the school students don't feel like they can talk to teachers teachers and administrators are too scared to talk to students so that's what we need to be focusing on before bringing in somebody new that's one minute yeah thank you [Applause] okay go ahead your name your full name and the town you live in and you have three i'm alexis heath i live in turner's falls but i go to greece sorry i go to greenfield high school and i don't have much to say i just wanted to say that an sro wouldn't only affect our students of color but they would also affect our students that belong to other marginalized communities such as students with

057disabilities or part of the lgbtq plus community so we know that they don't have enough training to deal with these marginalized groups of people already outside of the school so i feel like we shouldn't be putting one in the school knowing that they don't know how to handle these situations with certain people so that's all i have to say thank you thank you [Applause] well i am getting to the appropriate place on the agenda i would like to acknowledge how proud i am of all of our students tonight especially have come and spoken to us it's very important to make sure we have communication at all levels and i really appreciate and i think i speak for the whole school committee everybody who's up here that we appreciate more than anything hearing from students directly

058and [Music] i think that uh off off the cuff here i've learned a lot uh as chair of the school committee about how the structure of our meetings as white people doesn't work for people of color and i'm very conscious of that and i that is the main reason why i um allowed you to speak multiple times which is i should say again very unorthodox to allow you to speak again but i'm very conscious of the fact that not only as young people you don't have experience with meetings like this and with structured conversation and i appreciate your willingness to come and and talk to us in what is because you're a young person and for our folks who are not used to the patriarchal structures that we have um it's also a very um

059uh unorthodox and probably uncomfortable way for you to have to address uh adults and talk about your feelings and i'm just super proud of of all of you for being here um and and i recognize that you want the best for your school and out of your school and that's what we want to and i i am so glad that you took the time to be here so thank you clapping is not necessary no uh [Laughter] it's for them oh yes good good good yeah it's more clapping for more cowboy for the students please okay um we have now the report of the student representatives to the school committee which is brielle and shane down at the end of the table go ahead guys sorry i have to share a microphone tonight we had some

060difficulties that's all right um we're going to begin our report with student council so as a school we just completed our thanksgiving pep rallies and lip syncs uh students competed in penny wars raising money for special olympics and our annual polar plunge this month we'll be collecting new and gently used warm clothing items to be donated to the gms or to gms that they may set up a community closet for their students ugly sweater day as well as staff appreciate appreciation breakfast friday december 17th we'll have a winter pep rally on the 23rd to kick off winter sports hear the band and chorus perform and we have a few friendly competitions before we get before we begin winter break and i'm now going to speak for key club so this year's turkey trout was great

061students and staff walked or ran 1.5 miles around campus we also enjoyed games music hot cocoa and memory making we donated a breakfast themed tree as in key club under the tree the festival of trees which gives grants to local organizations doing good in our community key club members also served as greeters and videographers of the event we are presently beginning a food drive to create baskets for our families in need and make a mini food pantry as well as a community closet in our school where kids can access clothes that they don't have at home and we brought it to the middle school as well for spanish club they have already completed refund raisers for their upcoming trip to spain in april and plans are in work for bingo night as their next fundraiser

062and information will be shared and thank you member jonathan mousade for reaching out to try to help we'll keep you posted about how you can participate they met in october and november to practice a dance and performance to dance along to the november pep rally there was a glitch in the music which cut the dance so short so they're preparing for a redo for the december pep rally okay now french club has been magnafique this year we have had a movie night designed our t-shirt and held various other social events we are planning our bi-annual coffee house talent show which will take place on thursday december 16th in the auditorium at greenfield high school we look forward to cooking events ice skating and more planned for the new year spectrum has been maintaining their new

063school bulletin with facts for the lgbtq plus community history month october and transgender awareness month in november we also just ordered posters stickers and other materials from glsen to distribute to students and staff their main focus is to continue continue to be meeting weekly to create a safe space for students to connect with and support each other for library club they just hosted their second comic con yesterday in person for the very first time both student and guest presenters led sessions on drawing writing filmmaking and other fandom related topics students dressed up in their favorite characters or icons from for a cosplay contest to win prizes generously provided by the greenfield public library win sports games start this week boys and girls basketball boys and girls indoor track ice hockey and cheerleading are all ready

064to go go to arbiterlive.com and get all the schedules players coaches and referees will be wearing masks for miaa if attending any games this winter please wear mask at all times at the high school and middle school if you have any questions you can email michael chesky go green wave now for av club they're working on putting together a matinee film series to run in the winter months the four to six week film series will hopefully share a range of foreign and independent films with our students free of charge and a fun place to hang out when the weather is cold yearbook students this year are working hard to create the 2022 greenfield high school yearbook students in grades 8 through 12 including event students in grades 8 through 12 in the events clubs and

065sports are featured the book is a full year which the book is a full year which means it features everything to the end of school and is released in july it's not like to purchase a yearbook log on to jostens.com to purchase if you own a business and would like to purchase a business ad please log on to jostens.com or contact our teacher miss charbonneau all ad sales are appreciated and help us keep our yearbook on budget bit of messed up in the order sorry about that um the ghs music department is hard at work preparing for our winter concert on thursday january 13th the band has served as the musical ambassadors of the ghs community performing at the franklin county fair parade football games and helping honor greenfield's veterans at the veterans day parade

066we're looking forward to continuing to represent our school community at our future in school and public performances the national honor society members have embarked on a project to be positive peer influences to the 8th grade students last friday small groups of nhs members went to 8th grade morning advisory meetings to begin the work nhs members will be running the advisory meetings each friday and the same groups of members will be attending the same advisory each week to help build up relationships our focus will be on how to be a positive member of the community we plan to accomplish our goals through games and discussions reports from the 8th grade students nhs members 8th grade advisories have been positive so far on the same theme nhs members have begun to volunteer at the middle school to

067assist in the newly formed after-school program the beyblades club our members answered a request for help from gmst ms hall when the group became too large for her to run alone our members stepped up to the plate and will continue to volunteer with this after school program fun was had by all since the meeting last month that we were in attendance we have seen a noticeable improvement in the school conduct and behavior of students although um there are continuous issues in our schools the number of issue shelter in places has decreased there has been fewer conflicts that have been made aware of to the students and although it's not great for all students the overall behavior has gotten better but all this does not mean that our school is perfect right now it is far

068from that although this topic was brought up last month there's still been no noticeable positive change in how masks are being enforced for students every day we see kids without their masks on and although they're putting others in dangers in danger they face minimal consequences if any at all our school's massive situation has seen little to no improvement students should still show up to class with masks below their noses or completely off and yet for the remain of the class period nothing happens they may be reminded to put their masks on but a minute later it is off again it's gotten to the point where certain students are ripping each other's masks off as a game solely because it's funny they walk over to the teacher of whichever class they're in and rather than any

069repercussions they're handed a new mask without a word being said students have had to enforce the mask wearing policy among each other because so frequently it is overlooked and people don't see any consequences it's fallen to the students to tell the other students to put their masks on and show responsibility and integrity even with all the previously mentioned positives in our school we must also acknowledge the negatives around us and we must face them as they are this is the report of our school we were talking about the good parts and we've talked about the bad it's important that we do both and it's important that we show that people show people that our school is excelling and succeeding but it's also important to show where we're struggling and where we need to improve we

070hope that in telling you these things it can help make decisions to better our school and the entirety of the district thank you have a good night i'm just going to add a comment um i just want to say that i'm really proud of my fellow classmates and the students at greenfield and my friends for coming here tonight and speaking their minds and just having the courage to stand up in front of a online crowd the school committee other adults it's amazing keep up the good work [Applause] thank you both next is the reports of the administration and assistant superintendent of teaching and learning askp go ahead that's assistant superintendent karen pat know that my name for her askp the shortened version thank you um and i will keep it short uh an update on

071our curriculum development we just finished our third session with desi evaluating high quality ela curriculum materials for grades k through 7. the rollout of our vision of ela and literacy instruction happened at numerous faculty meetings k through 7 as well as their school council gms will finish up next week and then we'll have a final vision that we can share out with all of you our math curriculum many of our elementary middle school teachers were trained in avmr to strengthen our math instructional practices we look forward to continuing our professional development in this area in december and january the focus will be on improving core instruction and math that strength that strengthens student skills with a strong conceptual understanding so we look forward to those trainings we're also participating in the desi mentoring of principal

072leadership where i am mentoring mike browning and gina johnson we have our second meeting next week one of the exciting things though is that desi has rolled out a new principal mentoring handbook and in that handbook they are fostering new instructional practices and leadership revolving around racial equity they have new competencies that they are requiring administrators to undertake and learn and then model and implement as leaders in school districts so we're excited that we will unpack module one at our next meeting next week where they will learn to lead with equity professional and inclusive culture so gina mike and i are excited to take place in that participation in that development next up our beacon learning students have an exciting weekend coming up i'm not going to read verbatim what's happening here but friday december

07310th kicks off the festivities in downtown greenfield the beacon students have become artists and they're going to be part of the pop-up market and you can shop their artwork this weekend and we also have one of our students jason garcia who is rolling out his car detailing business so he's trying to become an entrepreneur and do car detailing they will be in the parking lot of the downtown gcc center from 12 to 4 on saturday so if you'd like your car detailed stop by and give jason some business he's very excited to launch that and they're very excited to be participating in this downtown festival weekend so we appreciate their work that they've done and then we have laura luker who's a certified library media specialist who's also a greenfield resident that i was lucky

074enough to meet last saturday she is starting the library assessment and audit of all of our libraries elementary and middle we began at newton elementary last week and she's got her work cut out for her but she's very excited to undertake this and really up the collections that we have for students at our elementary lastly i know dr hollins isn't here but to dr hollins and katie karen i just really wanted to thank you for your commitment to the children of greenfield it's been a pleasure working with you both for so many years and we really appreciate all that you've given in your time and efforts to make the greenfield schools a better place so thank you [Applause] any of the school committee have questions for askp i'm very excited about the pop-up and you

075know i i clean the inside of my car once a year whether it needs it or not so it might be this weekend that it gets cleaned are they going to try and do more than one pop-up thing do you know uh i think they're going to be there friday night art so that the la is it the lava center that's hosting i think yeah let's use the mic that's the address of the lava center yeah i think um they're going to be there friday night with their uh the first floor of gcc downtown center will be open and they're going to have their artwork along with five other resident artists so um and then they'll be there saturday from 12 to four for sure so they're excited yeah i'm sure any other questions thank

076you and now the superintendent's report okay now i can take the mic away from askp so um i've been pleased to be able to continue building visits um not all that i would have wanted but still been able to be in buildings see what's happening been in classrooms to see instruction happening we've seen students working on second step some different technology being used for a variety of presentations at different levels across the district and i did get to enjoy participating in the previously mentioned turkey trot at the high school before the thanksgiving break which i thought was a wonderful event for staff and students alike so i appreciated being able to be there so um some of the ongoing work is you know the no surprise um that we continue to need to work on

077establishing a lot of process in protocol and there were a number of references to things that are affected by that tonight the committee knew well the types and levels of work that needed to happen when um when i started so that is continuing it's not overnight work unfortunately but we are continuing karen and i both have some meetings this week actually with different providers to talk about embedding trauma-informed care work for our staff and also work around race and equity so those had been scheduled and it is perfect time that that the work that was being done at the high school prior to the pandemic um needs to be re-revitalized and with getting back to school and the changes in staffing um it didn't happen yet but it is in process so we recognize that

078work needs to be done on on the other on another end of the continuum as you folks had asked me to do chief hague and i have been continuing discussions about how we can collaborate you asked me to work with him to figure out a continuum of options that would be available not necessarily only what an sro would look like but a variety of choices so right now we're in the evaluation phase of the discussion where we're going to be meeting with administration from the schools and members of the pd to talk about what needs both agencies have and how that could potentially look but we're just beginning that conversation and obviously daily operations if we need to interact we we are doing that as typical practice um one thing that we are getting back

079into is the safety and security trainings at the buildings the drills that were done for um long-standing i'm very happy that trooper carmichael has been providing that training for four of the schools already and he will do another two this month which by the end of that should have provided the opportunity for staff in all of our buildings to have participated in that training and that includes our custodial staff admin assistants nurses everybody participates in the training that he's done we also have planned professional development for our counseling staff in december just to keep them abreast of clinical training issues so i'm pleased to have that unfortunately we do still have some vacancies that we're working to fill i've shared this before with the committee and i share it periodically in the parent update but

080we do still have positions we're struggling to fill we are engaged in the deci process to push vacancies out to the public at large so that is in process but we are part of that and we are really looking to interview not just permanent staff but substitutes so anyone who's interested in substitute teaching or being a substitute any position basically in the district instructional assistants bus drivers certainly we encourage you to reach out so i continue to do the parent updates every week sometimes they're painfully dry when we talk about what would happen when i have to make decisions about school but i do think it's important that families know somewhat how i think about making those decisions even though we're going to get through the winter and not require them so that would be

081thank you and i know representative from dpw was going to be here and wasn't able but i would like to say the relationship between the director of the dpw and the school administration has been fabulous already so that that will continue um the other piece that i want to make sure it's in here yes it is so we've started the fy 23 budget and i did communicate out with all of the district staff yesterday so that they had an understanding of how i look at the budget which is also very dry but it it's not really because developing the budget gives us the opportunity to really create or support programs for our kids so sometimes the process may feel dry because it can be so number driven but really what that does is shows where

082the administration the teachers want to ask you for your continued support the programs and resources for the students so they got that email and then we are in we've met with all the department heads at least once we're gathering final numbers and then also reviewing our current staffing we've had some changes and shifts in staffing as you know so we want to make sure that as we move into the budget process they're aligned with the building that they are actually in it makes it easier for us to be accountable for all the staff that we have in terms of budgeting and then no considering any new positions that may be requested by the buildings or department heads and student student numbers and needs are the priority when we look at the potential for new staffing

083so we are in the process of gathering all of that information um i've been told my budget development process is a little bit different than in the past so um you know we're doing a lot of back and forth and answering questions and ex you know just talking about how we want to look at building the budget so so more to come for sure on the budget and then staffing i am very pleased to share that we have a new director of food services finally finally greta schwaschmann i apologize to greta that was not very well said she's going to start later this month she's coming to us from the chicopee public schools where she was a member of the food service administrative level staff and we're very excited to have her come and she

084is very excited to be here but i continue to be so grateful for the work that the food service staff has done without a full-time director madison has continued to support the department part-time and that has been an incredible gift that we've had but that still has resulted in a lot of work for some some of our other staff so this is going to be wonderful and i am at the last stage of the volunteer process we are putting together some training information for any press any prospective volunteers there are some restrictions on how volunteers can be used in the schools for example a volunteer can't be the only one in an area with students we have to have volunteers supporting a district staff person so when i reached out to ask the principals what

085they would be looking for in terms of volunteer help lunch and recess was uniform that they need help in that except for the high school obviously who does not have recess in addition the middle school is looking for volunteers to help at our second chance breakfast which is mid-morning and then high school is also interested in some volunteers for working in the library so if anyone is interested while we get the training finished up if people are interested in being considered for volunteers they just need to go into central office and do the background check process and they can see lauren who's there and get some help completing that because that's the first step in becoming a volunteer for the greenfield schools we're excited to have the opportunity for people to come in and spend

086some time and it will allow us to at times reassign some of the district staff if we have volunteers at lunch we may be able to redistribute some other staff which is very helpful so thank you and i did want to say as part of our budget development in connection to the library audit that is something that i am proposing in the superintendent's budget specific line items for each school for library materials and we will have a report from our business manager at next month's meeting yes oh brielle you're still here you're so brave okay any anyone from the school committee have questions for the superintendent about her report um did you want to talk about the academic answer excellence reward i would love she's gone but oh and where he left but mom and

087dad are still here yes um i was very excited to be at the superintendent's academic alex excellence awards dinner last friday night with um rory and her parents that we it was wonderful to be in the company of such wonderful students from across the region and to be given the opportunity to share all of rory's accomplishments was an outstanding event for the evening and it's just very exciting and one of the absolute best things to be able to do as a superintendent is to honor a student that was nominated by staff that she works with so it was it was wonderful so i said it to you at the dinner and i will say it again i appreciate the opportunity to sit with your family when she was presented the award oh yeah yeah story's

088gone but congratulations rory lives close enough to my house that i'm hoping some of her excellence rubs off on my children okay so we are on to the school committee reports report from the chair i just really have a couple of things um i again want to acknowledge our students and our community members who've come to speak to us about super important and super difficult issues over the course of the past few months and acknowledge that it has not been the start to the school year that anyone wanted but we are clearly moving forward and we saw that over over the course of i guess the last three meetings and i want to acknowledge i was not at the last meeting and vice chair ekstrom ran the meeting in my absence and i appreciate that

089very much and it was not one that i wanted to miss and could i have been here i absolutely would have [Music] i want to also recognize we have two school committee members for whom this is their last meeting with us you'll notice dr holland's member hollins is not in attendance tonight this is her last official meeting her term on the school committee ends at the end of this month i believe she's been on school committee for we tried to figure this out eight years two six years that's right because they changed the number of years in the cycle for the election six years she was superintendent for six years before that i believe amazing service to the city of greenfield and our students and uh dr holland tonight is no secret that we don't

090look at things the same way but what i will say is that she is a constant and almost rabid in her pursuit of excellence and quality for our students and she just wants to get things right those are admirable qualities in anyone but particularly someone who prioritizes our students and kids that's that's really special she's a very special person and i thank her sincerely for her service to our students in our city and then member karen this is also katie karen's last meeting on school committee i believe she's been on school committee now jackson is going to be 16 so you've been on school committee for 18 years now is that right how long you know for your just one one one four year term is all you've done and i let you slip away

091so easily you'll be back um i'm i have to recognize that no one was in the room before the meeting began and when uh our recording secretary susan farber stole my thunder about katie karen and that is that she doesn't speak very often but when she does you know that's the time to listen and it is um amazing that someone who speaks so infrequently listens so well and it's a it's an admirable quality in anyone and it's something that i've really appreciated having um on the committee with us and i'm going to miss both of them i'm very glad that i kind of stopped katie everywhere because our kids are in the same school so it's fine i'll still get to see her but thank you thank you for your service to the schools in

092the city i appreciate it thank you and yes [Applause] and i wanted to mention one other thing kind of a thank you but we've recently as school committee members [Music] been asked by the the school council of both the high school and the middle school to send a representative from the school committee to be at their meetings and listen school counsel is a combination of students administrators and parents and teachers at the school level that meet frequently and talk about different things that are of issue at the specific school and um jean while member wall has uh not only wanted to have this opportunity this reason she ran for school committee is to have this opportunity but she jumped right in and is working with the high school school council already and she's going to

093be working with the middle school school council very soon starting next week and it's spectacular and we're already learning so many things from a different angle that's really going to help um the school committee to help the schools with things and i just i couldn't be more excited for that relationship to really blossom so thank you gene for your leadership on that i appreciate it and glenn i did not intentionally leave you out thank you too for all you do thank you for running again [Laughter] glenn will be back with us i'm not sure why you would sign up for another several years of this but um next month we'll likely start giving out how everyone can recall me if they so decide because it is something that is in the charter anytime you want

094to recall me i still have two years left just just hint [Music] that is the report of the chair and we will move unless anyone wanted to comment on the chairs report no yeah oh please remember karen please speak uh i guess we said i don't talk very often than here i go but um i just wanted to thank everybody for the opportunity to be here the people who voted me here the people who supported me those kids of mine who miss me sometimes when i'm here what a wonderful last meeting honestly to hear so many of our students be brave enough to talk to us to um i know it's a tumultuous time that i'm leaving you but i have faith that we're moving forward in a positive way and i have trust that

095i'll show up at that chair at any moment just remember it's not just the thing we signed up for each of us came here with a plan we had a reason we signed up for this job be it for a special ed be it to give voice to people in our community who don't have one but all twenty thousand of our people in this town count on us people in our schools people are retirement homes they all count on us because the future is these tiny humans and uh remember my voice of reason we start getting a little lost in the weeds i can always show up again but remember it it's easy to get lost in the day-to-day of all of this but they count on us and thank you very well said thank

096you [Music] subcommittee reports we have one from policy and program which actually involves [Music] the second reading and a vote on the uh revised student conduct policy uh secretary johnson we said was there anything else she wanted to report on from the committee sure yeah we we met because prior to the onset of kovid the committee was involved in working with the massachusetts association of school committees taking a fresh look at all of our policies and that was a project that kind of got lost in there somewhere so we did have liz lafond come and meet with us and kind of we talked together and kind of came up with next steps for getting that project back on track so we hope that things will be in place that for so whoever's on the policy

097committee starting in january will be in a good place to move forward with that project and yes this so we have already voted to enact the new student conduct policy we did that on the first vote but we still are committed to bringing things back for the second reading but there have been no changes since the last time we voted on it to enact it so um do you want to make the motion do you want me to yeah i'll make it i guess so i moved to approve the uh jic student conduct policy as presented i'll second that is there any further discussion on this policy it was a lot of work that went into it it's so involved and yeah i mean a lot of it frankly you can sort of tell by

098reading it is kind of determined by um statute more so so there are ones where we have to put a lot of thought but frankly someone's the ones that's like we have to have this and here it is well thank you for the work and uh i think liz for the work yes uh vice chair extra i actually do have a question so um notice of suspension uh a principal must provide the student the parent guardian oral and written notice and provide the student an opportunity for a hearing and the parent slash guardian an opportunity to participate in such hearing before imposing suspension as a consequence for miscon for misconduct um so in other words they are being offered the opportunity and if they choose not to attend then that doesn't hold any bearing on

099what the final outcome will be correct okay i just that's i i don't i i play devil's advocate and as i'm reading it just wanted to make sure i was clear thank you any further questions okay so we'll move to a vote any no votes any abstentions yes votes with a hand that's a unanimous perfect okay and thank you for that thank you for the work uh to the policy and program committee and the next item on the agenda item seven is about assigning school committee members to collective bargaining negotiations we don't really have to vote on this we have a committee um and you know i looked at the committee earlier it's it's me and oh yeah that's right i stopped to talk to the superintendent and i forgot what i was doing over

100here i was opening up the um the subcommittee list that's all right so the collective bargaining committee is me ekstrom member wall and member karen we can move forward with just the three of us and then a reminder to those of us who are returning that in january we will at our first meeting will reorganize um and uh i will propose um appointments reappointments and appointments to all the various subcommittees so is there any does there need to be any discussion about the procedures because we do have the reason this is on the agenda is we do have two or two or three uh unions that are requesting to bargain at this point i guess two and a half because one is two eight unit a and unit c however you want to count that

101and then transportation is the other one yeah didn't we just do that one oh okay okay as long as i'm remembering um okay so we'll it doesn't sound like anyone is disagreeing with that now i just have to find my agenda again maybe i could use the one here because i know we're almost done oh yes i need emotion thank you uh to enter into [Music] excuse me executive session for exemption reason number two strategy sessions in preparation for negotiations with non-union personnel or to conduct collective bargaining sessions or contract negotiations with non-union personnel if the chair so declares and i do declare it doesn't say that but i really wanted to say it the committee will not this evening return to open session do i have a motion to move into executive session so

102moved and a second second and we do have to do a roll call vote to move to executive session secretary johnson assad would you be so kind remember karen yes vice chair ekstrom yes secretary johnson moussade i'm a yes chair proyetty yes remember wall yes motion carries thank you everyone for attending we'll see you in a month [Music] you
