001is 706 pm awesome what numbers yeah I know I know everybody and we have Cheryl baloney we have Sharon Gillis Patricia Williams attorney Donald and attorney Muse I apologize okay Christine Kim is currently not here and obviously managing our superintendent and with that we'll start off with the Pledge of Allegiance and Eli will ask you to start out since this might be your last meeting here with us it's okay I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all thank you so the next item on the thing is the students report before you start with that Eli um for those of you that don't know you like receiving award at the state house earlier
002this month and could just expand on that on what it was all about yes so I received an lgbtq leadership scholarship earlier this month and basically I received that award because of the commitment and progress I've made towards the community and towards our club um I was one of the first recipients of the scholarship it just started this year and I was the only vocational student so far to achieve this scholarship where are you going to go to school and use it I'm going to go to Westfield State and I'm planning on majoring in secondary education well I'm sure congratulations um for my report um the drama club just recently did their production of biology we basically sold out on Thursday and we did sell out on Friday it was an amazing show and we're
003planning on doing these all next year and the GSA has recently elected their new officers for President we have Junior Alice Ballinger she is in engineering for vice president we have Onyx padwin who's a sophomore in BBC and we have two secretaries this year Maisie Stewart who is a sophomore in DVC and Victoria riebling who is a freshman in graphics the seniors only have three days left of school before she new sign out so everyone is obviously eager to get that done with um and this will be my last school committee meeting that I'm going to so I just wanted to thank everybody and it was really an amazing experience to be able to be a part of this this year thank you thank you punch next is public Commons which is the approval of
004the bill warrants and payrolls one that I have is this is a bill from Holly Greenspan from May 1st 2023. foreign [Music] seconds opposed hams excuse me this is yeah that's um I apologize I'm sorry I went out of turn on that yeah I really had my package but the boys all the way the signatures for the warrant and I'm going to let Christine so specifically the payroll Warren um it was wrong under temporary authorization now that we um have voted in the new um policy annually we'll vote in the person to be that authorized signer um on the payroll warrants where currently Jenna and I are working on what we're going to do with the operating ones it's not quite set yet so this is the one just for payroll warrants I'd like to
005put forward a motion that Charlie as um this year as chair not that it needs to be the chair but he did Express that he has the time available to sign so I would motion to put forth Charlie's name unless somebody else would like to sign second objections if someone else wants to volunteer okay so that motion been made in seconds attorney Muse any further discussion all right I would have seconded it all right um do we really thought in the policy that there's a backup but that's a good question I guess no I mean to designate somebody uh we can do that can we do that even though it's not really part of the policy but um does someone want to I think probably Vice chair right [Music] so the motion because one is
006the primary with myself and also in case I'm not available the signing would be fine if I was saying aye just quickly for the recorder I didn't mentioned when Christine came in before you got that time [Music] for three signatures okay um currently it'll be until um Jenna and I which shouldn't be much longer I think it will revert still to it will be refer to Charlie until we've set that up and then it'll it's like a month it'll be next month yeah it has nothing to do with this but can we move something out of water I was going to move it might be the same things in the vehicle parking spot s the veterans that was going to be wonderful yes the veteran uh signage that was going to be um one of
007them that I plan on moving um right now I was planning on moving all this after we got through the units the correspondency and the match okay so we have two correspondents water from Chief Road for us from the police department and he's waiting to thank the plumbers the students and staff went down there and they we're gonna some stuff at the police department which they expect it's going to be um helping them out for a very long time called the water filler stations America PG and the other one that if you also wrote that has to do with yeah the Council of Aging I almost said Housing Authority would be my mistake they assisted down there and he's obviously must be tired we had a breakfast they've had kids the seniors and so he's
008obviously a part of that as well and he wrote a thank you for all the people there that helped feed those 60 people has that correspondence been forwarded to Mr Williams so he could share it with the kids so but if not I'll make sure you sure Tony do we want to put a letter to Dave crumley's file and this I don't know what do you think about that um let me talk to Mr norkowitz we'll see what his uh okay his opinion on that is um this is a great thing for what our kids are doing thank you yeah it definitely is good recognition for all times glad to see it was in the world cup so they can see that the money they're sending us is helping them as well okay so now
009that we're gonna have to remove the minutes for the April 25th 2023 everybody has them um any discussion with anybody see any discrepancies or changes that they think need to be done looks like not all of the papers saying aye aye opposed Adams okay now we're going to go into as I was going to ask that if there's no objection taking some of the new business stuff and moving it up and the first thing is designation of veterans parking spots and yeah so we are joined tonight by Mr moroney and Mr Bendel who were kind of instrumental in bringing this proposal forward and I will let them introduce the students um because they do not know them by sight so um yeah foreign first I'd like to thank the school committee and the leadership team
010for adding this item to the agenda um secondly I'd like to thank Mrs Danica Johnston director of academic programs for her support in leadership during this process as we implemented the project uh finally I'd like to thank members of the social studies digital literacy Support Services graphic Communications uh and metal fabrication departments and of course students for their efforts and engagement in this project we're joined here by uh Grace McDermott Emma Casey and Crystal tempesta okay A little background on the project uh currently the Civics project is facilitated in ninth grade United States history one uh 21st Century Civic literacy and EOS courses the project is divided into six stages I think I the handout that just came out with sort of a more detailed overview of the project but just to sum up the
011stages um stages one through three involve identifying an issue or concern in the community then researching it um stages four and five focus on an action plan based on the research uh this could involve contacting local officials congressmen or a very generous school committee and leadership team that may or may not in favor of it um stage six involves reflecting and showcasing the Civics project which could be like a PowerPoint presentation a poster some sort of tangible product where the students can demonstrate uh their new knowledge of the community issue and their experiences going through the project um overall the spirit of the Civics project is to engage students in experiencing a and this is a quote from the dese guidelines uh nonpartisan student-led Civics Project based on action Civics the process of applying Civic
012knowledge skills and dispositions to mobilize change leading to impact uh to that end a group of students propose a parking spot designated for veteran parking uh to reflect the stages discussed above this began with students in one class discussing veteran services in the community just exploring and researching that in class emerging uh discussion I think it started back around around Veterans Day actually um and it evolved into deeper research including national state and local government institutions and uh similar parking spots in other public places that was stages one through three and then um next the students uh engage in some activities listed in stages four and five like creating petitions um contacting local veteran boards analyzing designs for parking signs and estimating the costs so in closing we respectfully ask the committee on the leadership
013team to consider a parking space dedicated perspectives and the five of us are here and if you have any questions we're happy to answer anything um my question is would you are you thinking about having to respond near the administrative entrance or in the back here like cafeteria area we actually uh explored a few different designs it might have been Mr Bengal's class I believe there was one that's like it has a weighted uh base to it so you can move it it's mobile you can you know depending on what uh the district is hosting it might make more sense to put it over by the uh you know the guest dining hall or up front or you know so it's it's got some flexibility but but um yeah so that was one option yeah
014uh I'm not I'm not with the Civics project that I know of this is uh you know I mean there's definitely designated signs I mean um it lows I was at Lowe's a couple weekends yeah I know yeah not that I know of specifically for a veteran sign but um recently I think it might have been in Brockton one of the um the project students worked on was it involved better lunches at school actually and they and they tapped into local officials and were able to engage students in the Civic process and I don't know if they get better food there or weapon in the news and and that's another thing that actually makes me think about um this doesn't this was just one project there's a number of other projects that were come out
015of this and actually some of the students in one of my classes are actually focused on lunch and you know part of what they're doing is um you know we crafted some interview questions and you know they're calling up some of the trying to figure out who the the top stakeholders are decision makers for lunches that come to schools process as well Tara good job guys I think this great idea I like the idea of it um I also like that it's mobile because I'm thinking like at graduation you wheel it over and you put it by the field or homecoming you put it by the field maybe it lives sort of near guest dining because that's some place where we do have a lot of the public but we pride ourselves in our connection
016with the community you know the dining room cosmetology all these different things I think this is just another part of that that just shows that we want to be part of the community that's all so I I recommend approval of this you have to make a motion I just made it okay it's not always unanimous well thank you very much [Applause] I mean it's we're looking at 20 or 30 dollars but that's something a weekend we can make happen thank you and I will I will work with our facilities director to uh let's explore that and then get get something put out there yeah thank you much appreciated thank you okay the next item I would like to take out of order is the school calendar hopefully everybody's had a chance to look at it
017it's very curiosity why do we shift to starting after Labor Day it seems like we sometimes go back and forth I was just curious why the teachers contract actually says we're supposed to start out the Labor Day um yeah and it was also early this year so I think that would be kind of the decision to get down get back after Labor Day instead of waiting thank you a number of years ago tonight they started going before ever those meetings before Labor Day so we'll get the new staff out of the way annotation professional or something sounds good okay but that I I don't judge you put that together is there anything it needs to be said about the calendar specifically the only piece is um March 14th skillsusa district and the early release day
018skillsusa hasn't officially given us that date yet and we need that date to be a half day so that's the only thing that we anticipate could change unless they change Comcast state that's why that's highlighted in yellow thank you that's why we held up yes this late because yeah normally we've got a care into it we'd approve this and it had to come back two or three times to amend it yeah we're trying to avoid that as far as possible yeah obviously I moved and we approved the calendar and submitted second again for the discussion if not all in favor and the next item I would like to take out of order ing the student handbook [Music] foreign sure so on the majority of the changes in the handbook for next year are uh just
019minimal language changes I know it looks like a lot but see the language around it um some of the more significant changes uh up until now the cell phone policy is then that they can be used for educational purposes the discretion of the teacher but now that we're a one-on-one District we are making a move her uh the language in here to only allow cell phones before and after school and during lunch um the co-op employers on the school council and the ones we hear from generally cell phones is a huge complaint um students not managing their cell phones well and so um and we also see a number of the problems we have during the school day between students or actually when they're using cell phone in school when it's not necessary and so
020we really want to model what those Workforce expectations are so we are going to be making a change there we recognize it's a culture shift it's something we're going to communicate you know the end of this year moving into the summer and just being really diligent about with students so so that's a fairly significant one yeah so that's not something we're gonna mandate I know some shops do collect it you know some folks have talked about doing it on the academic side but the reality of collecting phones and getting them back and and things of that nature so um I'm not going to mandate that but the language does say that they should be powered off they're not going off during class um and I think another piece is just communicating to parents so that
021they know you know if there's something you need to get in touch with their child about you can call the school and any student can go up to the main office and say I need to reach out to my mom my dad whomever and they're allowed to use the phone so I know that for a lot of families they're used to that instant contact but another piece we talked about too was the distraction even the students on the Council of you know being in class and you know that your messages are going off and these things are happening students are able to truly concentrate if that's constantly bus so okay another change is just with our Hall Pass system um as part of larger efforts to sort of curve down on inappropriate behaviors in the
022bathroom whether it be uh you know vaping or other things and so we had always required the passbook but that gets tricky like in shop week students don't always have them and we found that some of the issues are students like meeting in different areas of the building so we're going to have uh supply all classes in shops with passes that are on lanyards that are color coded so you know the hundreds will be yellow so if you see a student over in the 500s bathroom taking a bathroom break it's easy to say Hey you know you should be down in the hundreds bathroom um and just trying to manage that and make it a bit more consent with students and then the dress code link was updated oh sorry yeah sorry uh I made
023a point of one at a time was there a situation where they were going in bunches um yeah sometimes students like to bring an Entourage you know if you have to drop something off at the main office yeah yeah that we're trying to Tamp down on that a bit I know everybody you know likes to bring the Posse with them but just trying to curve things in the hall and it again it's not a terrible rampant problem but just seeing some things perk up again like now that we're sort of back into normal after a little bit yeah yeah um another piece we asked the attorney to look at was uh just around dress code you know wanting to enforce a more professional look among students but Massachusetts has a lot of protections for students
024when it comes to dress code you know you can't do anything gender based you can't just say um you know we don't want you to dress that way and make someone uncomfortable right you have to be very uh clear about the dress code being connected to self health and safety and things of that nature so he just cleaned up that language uh to reflect the most recent pieces there and um we'll just be using you know communication with students and families around just reflecting what we would expect to see in the work environment so it's not like a huge overhaul but just making sure that language is in line um because we've had some questions there why was right of the freedom of expression taken out so all of that let me just find that
025section 5 18. so all that came directly from the attorney sorry [Music] I mean that is such a generic term freedom of expression it's kind of hard to say uh so what he was just doing because it had initially it's just a larger sentence it was referencing like what the Supreme U.S Supreme Court ruled um but under Mass we often because of the laws and regs here things can be like another step of enforcement and so he just updated to say that it complies with Mass General law as opposed to referring back to the Supreme Court that's my understanding of that change they are oh it just sounds very restrictive well it was already restricted I mean because if if you read it and we left that in it says they retain the right of
026expression that school's May that though they those students retain the right schools may still improve it so the lawyers have got me yeah and the the other section that um the attorney focused on and then I'll talk about one more I don't know Tony you don't want me to go through each one necessarily okay in November there were changes to Mass General law around discipline so um chapter 71 section 37h and three quarters is what refers to the school rules violation not the big four so not weapons assault on a staff Controlled Substances or felonies with basically everything else the language was changed to show that schools have to basically show evidence of use of alternative remedies before using suspension unless uh it is counterproductable counterproductable yeah counterproductive or unsuitable um to use an alternative
027right so if a student does something very violent is unsafe it would be suitable to suspend but if a student breaks another Rule and we haven't tried things such as some mediation with a staff member are some type of counseling some type of education you have to just establish that you've hit those hit those benchmarks first so all of that language is just to comply with range we have been in compliance with it since November a few of us did a training with the attorney to make sure but we just don't you know change the handbook mid-year so now the language just reflects what we're doing and then another change is we've added a section uh uh reflect a Technology Insurance fee for school issued devices so families are going to be charged 40 a
028year but in that section it shows you know the first time you have a break obviously you know not something done maliciously it doesn't cost the family because they've paid that fee on the school council really endorsed that some parents shared you know stories from other districts where they didn't have that and they owed 600 for a laptop and so just something so that we can sustain this program yeah I'm sure there's a quiet process in place to handle the child that failing literally cannot even afford forty dollars but should that be written into the handbook or is that just sort of we all know that if a child literally the family that literally the money you're going to take care of them but should that be in the policy I mean we do similar
029things for field trips and and other things like that that kids you know or sports or if kids need equipment so I mean we kind of just you know it doesn't have to be in the handbook Just Karen thank you how are we managing it like in the fall so they're going to get invoiced so um will actually send families an invoice saying it's forty dollars for your technology fee you can pay it online they can mail in a check they can come in and see and the community will be sent explaining why yep can I ask three questions okay on attendance rules the last thing you wrote was within three days of the absence that was such they make 3-1 attendance rules in the last sentence attendance monitor will then make every effort to
030contact a parent guiding based on the information about school register within three days of the absence I was like that's a long time before the parent realizes the kid isn't in school right yeah we do uh contact All Families on a daily basis students are absent my understanding is he added that language in to be in compliance with the expectations in place for school but we do contact parents the day of when they're not at school okay and his early release is not mentioned at all in this because it's um so it's 4 13. but the second pick well I just looked through it all and I think it had mentioned early release somewhere and was crossed off I don't know it was changes to the sign up process yeah so we're talking about the
031sign out process for everybody of those for seniors oh I see so that's see Senior second graduation and then the last section significant change 4-11 under Cooperative education we had a few instances this year with time cards whether it was a student uh fabricating a signature or not reporting to co-op a few different things like that where there was just sort of a breakdown in which we thought we had confirmation from the employer when we did it and so the co-op director is actually working with the programming and web shop on an app that can be used moving forward they're going to Pilot it with a couple programs first but in the interim this section just spells out in more detail the responsibility for a time card collection and then in a more timely fashion
032what our follow-up is going to be if we don't receive them so that if a student isn't turning them in correctly or they they hadn't actually been going to co-op that they don't call the Good crap so we find them sooner once we fully move to that so yeah so this is still typed up around the paper these um but my understanding of the app when it's ready to go is that the student will be able to bring up the time card and the co-op employer can fill it out in the app and then to ensure the co-op employer did it they'll get a text once it's submitted or an email some sort of a push that says well you know please confirm it was you who signed this so then we have that confirmation
033my understanding we started to use that with a couple other shops already with some of our Juniors so yeah we're already starting to roll that out my son's doing it sir a question about um I don't know the difference between felony and felony and there must be some distinctions five three hundred three due process first mentioned in one just to comply with the laws can you explain what the difference is however is there I have to be honest with you I I'm not entirely sure what the difference is I know what I have to have to say that a student has met that threshold so we have to have a charge or a conviction to discipline under this section um but I'm not necessarily sure of the discrepancy between the two terms we can look
034into it and find out I don't know what the technology at the uh technical definition of felony delinquency is either but we can look it up and find out if you don't know it's based on age I believe I can kind of a juvenile complaint yeah if it's a juvenile which is under the age of 18 because you have someone that charged with a felony they don't respond realities they call it the Lincoln so that is I don't know it's really the same thing it's something in the law for a younger person yes yes they call them delinquent as a phone it's age-based okay thank you yeah thank you Charlie but I'm not going to take the time to do it in regard to the insurance cost of these items um when we so how
035did the film find out that we're able to offer what is the process for that yeah well again as we're gonna we're gonna lean on our guidance counselors because those are those are typically the staff members that have those connections with students again which is what we do with field trips other things you know that we have where kids come forward so we're not going to ask people to come forward and identify that they have some type of financial hardship we'll use the structures and the supports that we have in place to identify those kids similar in those structures the guidance counselors the teachers can advocate for them I mean pretty much anybody in the building can come forward and say I know the student is having a hard time with this can we find
036some way to help offset the cost of this or is there a way we can set up a payment plan um we do we do a lot of stuff like that already um do we have like a slush fund for them or something it just comes as needed so one of the one of the ways that we do it so through the Kenny vento for homeless students I mean it's not there are the definition of homeless also includes like if a student um if they're displaced for some reason and they're not so it doesn't necessarily mean like living on the streets but living with someone else um our guidance director Jim Carlson is our coordinator for that and so he has a list of students that he maintains and so they automatically uh qualify I
037believe they're Title One funds we can use directly for those students and that's something we've historically done like Mr McIntosh said so we have some things like that who already have students identified if you guys I mean was it uh you know given some thought to maybe have it as a deposit like what happens to that forty dollars times one thousand children if they don't use the funds and then every year it accumulates so we're looking at that's that's not going to cover what we spend repairing laptops every year that's just going to offset some of those costs so that again to help make this more sustainable um whatever we collect will go into the pool to pay for replacement parts components that need to be switched out if we have a laptop that does
038get damaged and needs to be replaced it'll come you know it'll come out of that pool um we we kind of run that program at a deficit um because as a school we kind of you know kind of take it on the chin for any of the damages that it currently happened so we started looking at that um this will this will cover probably about half of the cost of what we spend repairing computers every year that's helpful okay so you know a parent asks anything yeah it would go into a revolving account under um edtech so all that money would be there if your laptop had to be replaced it would come out of that revolving fund so that would just continue to be attitude taken away from us thank you advice basically insurance
039no we're calling we're calling it insurance yeah well that's gonna be so good because at least then it'll be we'll be self-insured isn't it more like no because we're using it to we're using it for the replacement costs of damage pieces so we're we're almost becoming self-insured for our technology so instead of us paying the feed to a third party which we they meant they are going to take a obviously take a cut of the profits we're trying to keep the cost lower do it ourselves now again we may look at this after a year and say this isn't working and then we might have to revisit it but at this point in time we've never done anything along these lines and this seemed like a good way to kind of stick our toll in
040the water and see if this is an appropriate way to move forward the students return their laptops at the end of school and get new ones or get another one at the fall they don't keep them over the summer correct no they collect them over the summer the Ed tech department like updates and does Imaging and things of that nature of them um The Only Exception is students who are enrolled in like a summer program whether it's summer school or summer Spanish they can keep theirs until they complete the program and then we collect it makes sense thank you well how much how much money is this supposed to bring in to offset the costs 40 times a lot of money 13 is 26. uh where we was this already included in our budget for
0412024 no because this will be a revolving account it's not it's not a budget that we're not asking for money out of the budget we're going to take the payment that the students make or the families make put it into a bowl to repair and replace damaged items and if you look at the thing there's there's a breakdown there the first accidental one is no charge the second one they pick up prior to the cost the third one they're responsible for paying for the full replacement of the device so that's the policy as it stands today but this alleviates that policy and makes it so this is brand new we've never had this before this is going to be implemented starting in September so if someone breaks their laptop now what happens the school pays
042more but now we're going to have the parents pay for it is it required for them we're going to charge a 40 technology fee to establish a revolving fund from the fence yes from the parents it will then be used to make those repairs that you're getting that not 1300 kids are going to worry about yeah exactly yes and the third damage is still a bigger payment it's just in addition they're paying this 40. it's like a pilot thing about your like cell phone oh I know it's a pilot paying it outside questions we don't charge for I mean that's what we pay taxes for for our town is to cover books and the things that the kids need for their education and I'm not sure that I'm uncomfortable with charging parents a fee for
043the use of the technology that's required for their use of the technology it's it's the repair broken and damaged laptops within the guidelines of that policy it's it's a self-insurance policy it's not a it's not a use fee we've modeled this after other schools we looked at a whole bunch of them before we moved forward with this um by way of analogy I assume most of our classes still have traditional textbooks and when students lose when they do lose them they can't bring them in we charge and they get damaged they get charged if a student loses a sports uniform they get charged for it they lose a library book they get charged for it I mean this is this is kind of I mean this is the 21st century Edition or version of some
044of those other costs you know for those very responsible kids that obviously would really take care and then forty dollars times four years um but it you know just thinking about the big picture so not for this year but next year could the school council think about is there some possibly some sort of process if a student gets to all four years with absolutely nothing happening to their laptop that there is potentially something that comes back not now but think about it next year and possibly put it next year you may just you may look at it go no that's a terrible idea we did it's come out of the operating budget comes out yeah do we have that in the budget somewhere no well I mean it's come out of Ed tax operating so
045edtech has made those tough calls around do we buy more laptops to replace the ones that are damaged or do we do the software purchase this technology upgrade whatever it is so again that was part of the conversation around that is to make this more sustainable we wanted to start having that feed to kind of one more question I'm sorry oh no I'm sorry I'm like I'm just thinking about you know families will lunch be um paid for by families next year we won't know until the budget's passed this this year it was free because the legislature said we're going to continue the free breakfast and lunch program I honestly haven't paid close enough attention I don't even know if that's in this year's budget or not vote yeah but you know the final decision
046has been made yet so it might happen again Cheryl yeah thank you no I guess to your point the only thing I would say is like how they can admit like who's managing is IT Tech management but like what happens like you keep piling in 40 bucks every year and they're like is there some like say this becomes like a program you keep on your balance keep what do you do with the excess just keep just keep padding the next year like at some point is there like a like a break point based on what we've been spending the money we're going to collect probably isn't going to cover up all the cars for the repairs for next year okay see that's what I was going to ask how much did you spend last year
047on I think it was about eighty five thousand dollars Wow 85 000. um the number of devices we yes they are going to break down you figure you figure we have we have approximately 200 staff numbers you get 1300 kids I mean we're you're talking 1600 plus devices um let me think of more like about the ones that the kids had that yeah the kids are the kids are the majority of updates it's rare we have a snap number come back with a broken device and you're collecting some money from the students if they break them two or three times but you're not collecting anywhere close to 85 000 we're not collecting we're not making up those what we're spending and I assume there's no fee for the teachers not that I think they should
048but yeah okay I do have a question that Christine hit up on all right so if last year you paid 85 000 right and maybe the before you probably made it made 65 or more right so Ed temp would have put that in their budget well again my understanding this is my first year my understanding is it was It was kind of put on edtech to figure this out as we went because this is the first year that we're paying for laptops out of the operating budget because a lot of it was done with grant money so now that our announcer and all those other things have gone away we've already absorbed the cost of buying devices for our incoming ninth graders which was also part of the conversation around this if we're going to
049spend that much money to buy new devices out of our operating budget we've wanted to have some way to try to offset some of those other costs because otherwise it would have been an additional cost on top of that should have been involved in the budget discussions all right now and then I go ahead and finalized this until just recently so and then I have something that's on four three physical education and Wellness would anybody agree with me that we put in a sentence that says parents May opt out of the health curriculum I believe that and it's in something else yeah that's what I couldn't remember it is somewhere right yes it's in and I just you know whether it's mgl or if it's a regulation I don't know that but I can tell
050you that the start of every year specific s are given the letter where they can offer it out all right and we've been doing that um through the the back to school where parents sign the other forms as well um that a brief abuse is it from abuse or normal wear you can respect the property or do you think it's abuse a lot of it is kids will put them in their bags and then they'll either put something heavy on top of it or they'll sit on the bag and the screen yeah I don't think it nobody's playing frisbee with them street hockey or anything like I don't think that they're real malicious acts I think they're just things that kids are not they're not thinking about my devices in my bag you know when
051my buddy on the bus or whatever it is no I support it I think if I mean what's the harm it's for it's for a year right we'll try it and again we can always revisit this in the spring and see if it's yeah interesting um I want to go back to that too so um one is when we send out the the letter regarding this um now that we have those English language Learners and there are more of them um is that being sent out to those families in their language as well so the student might not have to translate and then um back to who who so one is this forty dollars is it policy or is it in the student handbook it says handbook um and then was was that discussed during
052student council and how did the the families feel about that issue when it was brought up to the yeah when it was brought up to the school council um the overwhelming feedback from the parents on the council is that they thought this was a good idea um one parent shared their child had gone to another school not shoshing a broken laptop and they had to pay the full cost and parent shared they would have really preferred to have had to only pay 40 a year so they felt that this was reasonable that was the feedback that we had gotten and they similarly um had talked about if we can explore which I know Mr McIntosh and Miss shrimp are already looking into um what you suggested Taryn about being able to then keep the laptop
053after the four years so it was definitely support for it and so again just to clarify so you break it once forty dollars you don't have to give it again because you already paid it you break it the second time you have to pay for a portion yeah and I it's in there if you read the deposit and I forget which section it's in you're responsible for half the cost of the laptop and if it's a third time full cost how much is the laptop cost about 800 bucks I think that's good they get financial you know if they break it once they're not charged they're told very clearly you're not being charged your parents have already paid forty dollars they don't want to pay another 40 80 100 200 500 800 take you know
054this is what you shouldn't do you get a little responsibility hopefully chairman Mr chairman I'd like to make a motion that we accept the school handbook guests has nothing to do with this you may miss you it's the early release only because that is the senior sign out and graduation requirements all right so is all seniors eligible for early release because originally they were not so um historically charging was releasing seniors earlier than they're supposed to we're only supposed to allow seniors to sign out 12 days before the last day of school and so we had been doing it sooner than that and had all these steps that you could follow and we stopped that a few years ago because you're not supposed to do that and so to be eligible so senior sign out
055this Friday graduations next Thursday students as long as they're passing their classes they've completed their detentions they've met their Shop hours they can sign out and the only students who come back like if you're failing and can't graduate we can get you back in here on Thursday so that's the major change and we're just updating the language to reflect that okay because well actually the only updated language that seniors sign up form and then you just crossed out all the stuff about early release yeah because that all right a second discussion it's not all those in favor can I that's fine too much time my motion is for the whole package so I would have to like remove uh uh who would I whose brain would I pick about this typos typos yeah should I
056just you can either contact me or Diane yeah okay thank you I will make another suggestion though this handbook used to go to the curriculum supplementary before so things like that whatever the student handbook I've never I've never heard of that before you know this makes more sense but I mean that stuff like that I mean the student handbook changes are really the purview of the school council right I mean by by the thing is some committees are just that we review stuff so we can come back and say well we've corrected any of that yeah right stuff like that absolutely it's not that we argue about that we just say um right do you catch typos that's great okay next year on that I used to do a lot of reading okay [Laughter] all
057right those are the only items I plan on taking out of order so we'll go back up to the business manager's report so yep it's just one page so what's coming around is the year-to-date budget report by departments so um I just want to point out the note on the bottom Line 39 is reduced by about 4.5 million the wide insurance payments so our actual total available did the same yep yep I have extras is about 968 000. so that is with everything in coverage so you'll notice Line 39 says we have um 5 million available that's not true Blue Cross has required us this year to start wiring funds instead of sending a check so we have Mary the comptroll make those journal entries to have it reflect that not realizing it wasn't syncing
058with this so I wanted to make that clear another thing we haven't done yet is made our payment to opeb that was voted last year when we voted the budget for an additional four hundred and two thousand so that's transfers can be done anytime during the fiscal year and I was obviously waiting to see where we landed in June most of the overages you'll see if you're looking at the percentages used are due to salaries so everything evens out against other departments but those High percentages are over overages or due to salary estimates which is pretty common when people people move over faster than we anticipated and hiring someone higher than we anticipated some of those are equipment purchases and purchases and equipment purchase as well who the auto body was it an unexpected repair
059or unexpected piece of equipment that broke or something it was still part of the spray booth that we've had to put some money into you know how we got the grant for the spray booth last year that's still in process it's not total an operational yet it is yes I mean we had to do some upgrades with the gas service and the ventilation and some other stuff and I was going to ask you about that so are they using it currently it's up and running I don't I believe they're using it but I haven't I haven't actually weapons they went on some safety equipment and stuff yeah that's good the most positive I know I know we got the final approval from the building department so anything that's encumbered The Six Million that's encumbered a
060lot of that is salaries especially we have the balloon payment that comes out in June for teachers and Powers um so that's a big part of the conferences and I actually ran this at 12 45 today so it's as current as possible without waiting until right before this meeting and this change is very fast these numbers change very fast so are you saying culinaries overage is specific salaries to teachers salaries yep teacher salaries and so we will we replace we have um not that they don't yeah we used to have a para there and some of that was Grant funded so some positions are sometimes gram funded sometimes they're not depending on what we get so that's another thing that's a little hard to estimate when we don't get all the grants in prior to
061budget season yeah it's not a significant amount of money but MCAS has basically not used their budget right yeah they have some money there not going to or is it just one of those things that hits in June yeah I'll have to check in with it everybody else is in United States dollars problems yeah I'll check in with that does graphic arts do their um purchases in June until we not know about those or oh meaning wise significantly under but right I mean I'm going to cut off purchasing in the next two weeks just so we can get everything cleaned up before teachers leave the building um I met with all the department chairs and told them to start make sure they're spending what they need and I'm waiting for these last minute things so
062they're ready for the fall but I did me with every chair as well yeah anybody else have okay this is the school can be budget what do we what do we use money for usually the conference is incredible Services yeah it's out of there too masc news other things like that conference yeah and this is right from the account where I wanted you to it's one sheet and environment so it's very good thank you the salaries around the teaching how is it so the salaries under each department oh wow so every Department carries their own salary yeah and you have to account for the summer payment yes so the balloon payments already and their salaries are encumbered they're reserved it can't be touched but that's why there's so much encumbent is part of it is
063the balloon payment yeah it was a teaching what's that teacher that's a lot of um professional development yeah that's a teaching miscellaneous category if you look at the operating method so for each department it normally includes the salaries but all everything yep the salary Capital consumables all that's included there you don't see is like revolving if they have revolving fun NASA and you don't see grants in this so so sometimes like the The Fringe Benefits come out of some grants so that will offset some of our health insurance too and I'll have a better picture of that at our June meeting and if we need to make any major transfers to our trust funds other departments usually it ends up being a wash with another department so there's two things strategies you can you can
064do all these move have Tony look at them and do all these transfers between departments or you let it lie and become a wash for the whole operating budget okay yeah special education number yeah also particularly uh Lars because of the Gap in particular driving Force there as I'm reading the numbers yeah I would have to see what they haven't spent their money that could be due to salaries what's that and special education most likely established most likely salaries the other thing that happens is with retirees if we have someone retiring in a department and we have we have to pay them for their sick time some of them get distributed throughout the year but it ends up being a pretty significant sum I think it maxes out at twenty nine thousand dollars that gets
065tacked on to their salary for that year so when people decide to retire we might not have that information when it's budgeted and we go over so we have the compensated absence fund that we can pull from if we need to but in this case I don't think we'll need to where we land with the other departments so salaries can be had to predict with retirees as well because of those lumps on those sums that they get is the guidance department and the special ed Department are some of those expenses like no they're completely separate well guidance doesn't specialize was that included in last year's budget like I think they would still go yeah they were still broken apart even though there was one director yeah because that's this budget that I put in so
066they were broken apart the other thing is programming and web that's an old line item that we're no longer using and now it will be part of internet and it's just one so zero one one is where you'll find all internet programming in a while in the budget Student Activity is that what is that for that skills getting stuff for graduation um there's a lot of stuff for Student Activities professional development comes out of a couple different places our teachers also get paid this 25 000 in our contract for reimbursement for courses that also comes out the um end of June they get a hard check before they leave for reimbursement so that hasn't been accounted for accounted for either yet the field trips come out of individual departments they usually come out of revolving
067yep we're offset with revolving it affects cost is like your size wires that's all the medical across which causes all are to always pretty much Insurance utilities a lot of the building stuff no but the big dent you said oh the big dent is because of insurance yep since it's wired yeah purely medical or is there others purely Medical somebody else thank you you're welcome we'll continue to do this four times a year is that what you want yeah my well my plan is and I've sold the people that have been to that want to take this so that's my plan starting next year with September December and so on then whoever it takes to cheer for the last one is can keep it going or not I'm sorry I didn't ask earlier do you
068have just by any chance know how that 84.2 figure compares to where it was this time last year yes I ran it it's it's hard to say I I did run it because I gave it remember we looked at it on Monday and I I think it was about 88 but that number that 84 isn't a good representation because it doesn't take out that I did pull last year as though when we met on on Monday to see and I can get you that information if you want I can pull it do you want me to do that sure more questions yeah you're not related just for the audit so that's two weeks so yep is your plan to basically present that at the final meeting in June so on June 6th the otter is
069going to come here for the audit subcommittee and then we'll report to the group on the on the phone company all right can you just explain to the career committee like what impact like the audit once it gets approved references right so it shows our liabilities and our ability to take out a bond is almost like a credit score I am actually looking forward to the presentation because it's the first time I've done a full audit and had to provide all that information so I'm going to learn a lot from our other presentation too she went through sunflowers with me but um yeah to be in good Financial standing it makes us more appealing to lenders especially if we're going to have a new building so is that really like the main I mean of
070course to make your sure we have to do it it's filed yeah I know what I'm saying like is that pretty much your main thing is based basically for like Bond ratings and all that is there any other some people are aware is there any other things you have to report to the state or is there any any other stuff that different I mean of course you want to make sure you're certifying your schools and getting financial help but is there other you know fields or you know they're currently paying off bonds or like you know we go down this like is there another anything just so people are aware it's an element of e and D too as well isn't it you try to be programs so that was really the main drivers I
071mean of course there's schools of information Health but it's important ability to borrow when they need you know and they'll even go into the revolent well we don't look at revolving accounts they'll go into all your revolving accounts they look at everything every single Grant that's come in they'll look at line items they'll give us line item adjustments to make for the next year which we've made so they also give recommendations that you have to follow which we've had to set up some new accounts in our accounting software um I haven't I'm just seeing these results I'm looking forward to Colleen coming on June 6 for her to explain all the details too it's it's a big document I did I send you a copy of the preliminary or the final I think I sent
072you final audits too right I guess I did to everybody last week before I do have the final audit if I didn't I'll resend it but I'm not gonna lie I didn't read a covenant cover I can't so you know memorize it yet but I will I will I'm working on it yeah okay I can't wait for that I love it just for you too is there like the plan for the future I mean you've had the same auditor for 20 years I'm not saying you're doing any indiscretions right I talked to my mentor who's at Monty Tech and she's like you know you don't usually change your auditor because then they have to learn your whole system over again but I'm not sure that's really not my decision if the group decided they wanted
073to go in other directions I guess I'd rather well I disagree with that exactly one is basically you always want to make sure I mean you know if that's Howard but you're always gonna be looking for you want to make sure you're in the market for the audits just the same things right you don't miss you may not necessarily go to bid but you're looking to see your pay market rate that's one thing and then there's also like you know you want to make sure if you're you know I mean it's good to have the same auditor but sometimes you know there may be change is a good thing right reasons so I'm just saying that might be something I'm not saying I haven't discussed it yet the contract yeah well Jenny you you just
074I mean if you're happy I know we had to discussion before you feel happy with the service I know and I can't deny I've had the discussion because Ken said how could we have the same auditor for a million years I mean if you feel we should look around who knows I mean I'll leave that thing I had a good experience this first year working with this company they were really supportive and like especially with me going through this for the first time they were I would say patient and like Jenna that's not the right file okay all right let's try to find a different one from the accounting software yeah another set of eyes your other services we have you're basically making sure you're you're not getting ripped off right not that we are
075but I'm saying that you diligence on that part and then you may get presented with a better proposal something that you know we've got the same thing you have had the same on for a long time but it may be time to when when we have to decide on that so we really start October let's start getting the auditor information yeah just the cycle just begins all over again yeah um if you include the 4.5 million for the wired insurance payments the budgets at 97.2 including encumber today she did the math thank you and if it was 88 last year we're a little over but that doesn't mean we're over per se it could just be that she's included more encumbrances than what we did in a higher year so we don't at least have
076a good basis until after yeah yeah another year yeah yeah okay all right Jenna where do we stand on the E and D oh my favorite questions well my number it went from about 24 problems to 12. so we're getting there we're getting there you can do it last year got certified in June in June yeah June 6. I have the whole month of June listen I'm doing the best but yes it was cut in half Town thanks we're getting there okay is that cheaper or it's the only way we can pay them now they didn't give us a choice yep sorry thank you Jordan anybody else have any questions no that's it I just wanted to give everyone this and thank you so much okay we start July one the only way we're getting
077the zero is if we get a report in July two good morning all right and you're done there and then next we're going to go to the soup and Tennis report I do have I have more slides than I normally do but I'm hoping to get through them faster so we'll see if this strategy Works um admissions update um again this is an update I started this I believe last month uh we have we have 417 total applicants we've offered acceptance to 408 of those students we currently stand at 344 students confirmed for our incoming freshman class we still have 21 students that we have not received a response from even after calling emailing um our Target is to have 360 freshmen on the Tuesday after Labor Day so we still have a little bit
078more work to do around this we do have plans to do a social media social media push to do some other stuff as the school year wraps up to try to see if there's kids out there that maybe have rethought may not understand that admissions is still open at this point in time that we still also have some capacity um so we're closing in on our Target number um ideally we'd like to have some additional kids on the wait list because we know that those first couple of weeks some kids you know kind of have buyers remorse and decide that they want to go back to ascending communities and we want to we want to try that as much as possible deal with that fill those slots quickly at the start of the school year
079so um we will continue that push as we roll through the late spring early summer at one point you should get no responses at one point do you move ahead with the people that apply but what exactly so I might ask them to send a correspondence that said I believe the cutoff date we had was May 15th and said if you do not respond to this by May 15th we're gonna essentially they're gonna go to the bottom of the wait list and then we'll move forward with whoever is is next in line yep it should again if it didn't happen this week it should it should be Saturday there's only nine kids yeah list anyways but yeah no we decided we picked the May 15th is kind of a deadline you don't want them sitting
080wonder how long before they can move on themselves yeah we had those conversations um enrollment hasn't changed much I think I think we're right around I want to say we're in 1267 last month um we had a couple of students a couple upperclassmen that we drew for whatever reason whether they want to go back to Sunday school they moved um relocated whatever it was um again we have a rather small grade 12 class that will be graduating in about a week or so um we are on track to backfill grade nine with an additional I believe 20 plus students so that Grade 9 number should be closer to three three 3 30. sorry I had to do the math in my head there um and um again we're going to do the same thing with
081our 10th grade class that'll be part of our social media push we now know which programs have openings all of our current 9th graders have been placed in their programs we wanted to give them a couple of weeks to settle and make sure the kids didn't want to transfer from one program to another so as part of that that push to get more ninth graders to build on our wait list we're also going to push out information about 10th grade openings you know if you're interested in these particular programs please contact us we have space available so again our Target is to try to try to come back with between 350 and 360 in our sophomore class and have somewhere between 350 and 360 in our freshman class we typically don't bring it well actually
082we don't bring in juniors per our admissions policy revisions we only backfill with kids that are coming to us from other vocational schools so we really want to make a concerted effort to to prop offer to populate those those nine and ten grade classes so that as they move through those last two years and kids move transfer whatever it might be we still have some we sell some pretty robust numbers and those in those Upper Grade levels it may take us a year so to get there but that's a long-term goal um Co-op update this will this will be the last one for our seniors their their Co-op actually ends Friday um we gain one student we're up to 214. um we had 213 in April we have uh 208 employers that are a class
083of 2023 are currently working for and have been working for um our students have logged over a hundred thousand hours 103 427 hours to date which I think is kind of amazing if you think about the amount of time that those kids have put in in those Co-op placements um the other thing that I think is kind of eye-popping is that same group of students have earned 1 million 675 825 dollars um to date as part of that Co-op experience um I know I've talked about this many times in this group I think Co-op is a great resource regardless of whether students plan on going on to school staying in their career area it gets them out into the workforce it lets them see what that career looks like day in and day out it
084helps them to kind of build responsibility if they're going off to college to get up to get the class on time if they're going to go into the workforce to you know to to show up to be on time to be prepared to work it does so many great things I just I can't say enough uh positive things about what Co-op means to our students the 208 employers is that up from last year is that or is it pretty much the same number from last year yeah I'm not sure I don't have last year's numbers I have to go back I think it's pretty comparable I know we have more kids out than we did last year so it's it's probably around the same number and again just final breakdown here we have five Bedford
085students 90 excuse me 92 kids from from Billerica 22 from Burlington 62 from Tewksbury 33 from Wilmington um and we currently sit at 76 of our CPU classes which I think is a pretty impressive number was that breakdown is that similar to what their percentages are of um in school students or seniors I never actually ran that number but I mean I can go back and look and see how it Compares that's a good question I hadn't looked at it that way um so our Juniors were already up to 102 Juniors which is a jump of about 33 students um from the last update that we had um 93 different local employers obviously some some of our employers have more than one student that they've hired um to date the kids have worked 5432 hours
086and it made just a little bit over ninety thousand dollars yes I would assume some of the junior employers are the same as senior boys that some shots some employers have both Goods yep great yeah yeah we have we have employers that year over year will hire kids and again uh we two from Bedford 41 from Billerica eight from Burlington 29 from Tewksbury 22 from Wilmington and we currently have about 31. so about about a little less than a third of our juniors are already on Co-op um the nice thing about the kids that are already out as Juniors they'll be able to continue on those placements over the summer and again you know this opens up some doors and some opportunities for them that they wouldn't have um because because it's connected with their
087technical program they can do the operations and use the equipment that they're trained to do in a technical program where if they went out and found a summer job on their own there's really a lot of limitations about what they can do and what they can participate in so this this also opens up to us for them as well that they normally wouldn't have as well the money they earn during the summer added to the total that you have yes so that that total for the seniors was from from when they went out to now what happened I mean they don't turn in time cards over the summer we get we kind of get a glutton of them when we come back in September so you'll see a big bump um initially but that'll reflect
088the the you know the July and August work in that first meeting that we have um update on skillsusa I know a lot of this information is is come out but we haven't met since the results the the last meeting we had was the Tuesday before the state competition we sent 66 students and probably a dozen or more staff members down to the event um we had 30 medal winners eight Golds 15 silver and seven bronze so the eight gold medal winners have qualified to go to the National Conference in Georgia which is I believe the same week that school ends I think that they will be leaving that Tuesday or Wednesday so those students and those staff members will miss the last couple of days of school that week but again congratulations to those
089those kids um so we had gold medals in the following events so the health knowledge Bowl we had a gold medal we had a gold medal team it's actually Four participants so those four students will be traveling to Atlanta hating ventilation air conditioning and Refrigeration that student is a junior and this is his second trip to Nationals where he is the defending national champ for that competition so good luck to him and he wants to win again it'd be awesome if he came back with with another gold medal um we have a we have the masonry representative from Massachusetts the plumbing representative from Massachusetts and the action skills representative from Massachusetts this year as far as Silvers go and again these these particular students won't be won't be moving on to the National Conference but
090I still think it's important to recognize them CNC turning specialist collision damage appraisal another Health knowledgeable team of four masonry medical terminology a team for mobile robotics um we had a silver Medal winner for welding sculpture if you haven't had a chance it's out in the display case take a look at it it's it's very creative piece of work that that young man did uh and then entrepreneurship was another team of four um that placed at the Gold level and finally our bronze winners were architectural drafting graphic Communications masonry medical math medical terminology technical drafting into the employment skills application for those of you that were paying attention we swept Masonry so gold silver and bronze was all earned by Shawsheen students an amazing program so they had an outstanding showing this year so kudos
091to the instructors and the students down there and all the time and energy that they put into getting where they are and I hope we have continued to success at the national level for them as well um breakdown by Community we had 10 students from excuse me we had 10 medalists from Billerica three from Burlington 11 from Tewksbury and six from Wilmington our gold medal winners Billerica had three it was Plumbing masonry and HVAC ironically Tewksbury was three Wilmington was two our silver medal winners Billerica had six Burlington had three so it's very ahead four and one weekend had two bronze medal winners we had one from Billerica four from Tewksbury and two from Arlington an update on them and I talked about this I don't know if it was the last meeting of the
092meeting before but the Massachusetts seal of biliteracy all the testing has taken place we have the results back we had 24 students that actually completed the test that took it in eight different languages out of those 24 students that completed it 19 of them have qualified for the global seal of biliteracy in three different languages so I I got a little bit of Education through this process the global is a five or better in these four categories speaking Reading Writing and listening so the students had to score a five or above in those four categories to qualify for the global seal out of those 19. see I got a typo in there excuse me 11 of the 19 qualified for the Massachusetts seal of my literacy which is a six or better in all five
093of those in all four of those categories Massachusetts is one of only three states it asks for a higher bar than the global seal of literacy so those those 11 students not only qualified for the global CEO have now met the requirements for the Massachusetts one out of the two out of those 19 have qualified for the seal with distinction which means that they got a seven or higher in each one of those four categories and those the two languages represented were Bulgarian and Portuguese um so when this was first brought to me I thought we'd be lucky if we had three or four kids um that actually achieve this goal so when I saw these numbers I was completely floored um to you know our first time out never having done this in this
094building before to have 19 of those kids qualify for that seal is awesome um I and again like I said this has been this has been a little bit of an education for me too there's a bunch of um financial aid and grant money that goes along so students that graduate with this designation on their diploma can apply for all kinds of it's It's almost like John and Abigail Adams scholarships for these kids um the Department of Education has started to waive mtel fees for students that get the sealed by literacy so if they decide they want to go on into a teacher they can take any of the mtel exams and they don't have to pay for them there's there's all kinds of other incentives that the state has started to put out there
095for these students we um we have I believe there's three of them that are seniors who will also have Co they'll have a special cord for graduation that designates them as a student that has met the requirements for the Seal of our literacy so this was I think was an awesome success um you know I I think we're just going to continue to build on this as we go forward I know um we had a little luncheon reception for the kids today in the in the Rams Head they are all very excited I know they're talking this up to their friends and other people so I think this will just continue to gain momentum as we move this will be something we continue to do and use how long has Massachusetts had this uh 2017
096I believe oh it's a new thing yeah yeah it hasn't been very long yeah do students take it more than once they can so and and again you'll notice I chose the word on here qualified so there's the kids have to pass the test but they also have to meet all the graduation requirements and there's some thresholds on their MCAS scores that they have to meet as well so just because they've passed the exam doesn't mean that they've met all the qualifications so what's going to happen is we had some ninth graders that didn't quite get to the Massachusetts threshold or ninth or tenth graders so they'll take the test again next year with the hope that now they'll be able to move to that higher that higher level that higher tier and receive that
097recognition cool um hiring update I know it's it's a busy time of year around here new Department chairs have been hired for both science and support services I think everybody's aware that Miss Hardy and Miss um Fitzpatrick are both retiring at the end of this year so we have people coming on board um the new science chair was actually an outside higher and is one of the three science teachers that we brought in um the other two one was an additional position it was in the budget we also had a resignation one of our biology teachers has standard a resignation effect over the last day of school so we had to replace that instructor as well uh and all of them are signed so all the contracts are signed everybody's on board we have paperwork
098for all of them I've also been able to sign a cosmetology teacher to replace um I forget Sandy and Sandy Leslie McKenzie thank you I couldn't remember her last name Miss MacKenzie's retiring as well um I have recommendations and I've met with candidates for uh Health assisting and Engineering I've actually I made an offer to the engineering candidate today I have not heard back whether plans on accepting the offer or not Health assisting we're still working through doing some reference checks and some final some final information on that position I I hope to wrap that one up by the end of the week Support Services I know the principal has interviewed a candidate it hasn't been forwarded to me yet and then the ones that we have pending we have a second Support Services position
099to fill and then our guidance counselor interviews will start the week after Memorial Day Mr Carlson has put together a team of um people from admissions people from guidance people from a couple of different departments to serve on that team we had over 50 applicants for that opening which is which is surprising um so I believe that the team has looked through and has come up with I think they're going to interview eight or nine of the candidates and they make a recommendation from there that will move forward so we're in we're in good shape um you know we do have a few things to finalize here in the coming weeks but it seems like we have a pretty solid pool of candidates for the positions that we have open and so far we've been
100able to to kind of backfill most of the stuff it's only the support services that internal I have um department chair yes yeah that was Miss Keane is going to step into that thank you and that's it any other questions thank you is that gonna no not defeated dead horse here but we think we had the guidance but for next year's legendary because I still feel like you know like special end and in there look at the administrative level is that going to be a focus for next year to make sure we're in the right position for those those areas because you kind of shored up Guidance with the now director guidance and you kind of like you know I said so we did add another Support Services instructor this year to help bolster that
101and with the chain I mean we'll have to look again next year but with the changes to moving to an inclusion model I think we're going to be in pretty good shape but again that we'll definitely look at that next year as well and see where that goes one thing that um we need to keep in the back of our mind is we have three Grant funded positions that in F White 25 will no longer be funded so we have an adjustment counselor we have a support services instructor and we have a little science is it a science teacher especially the special ed this guidance this this is a two adjustments we essentially we have three staff that are being paid out of a grant so not in the fy24 budget on the FY 25
102budget we're going to have to account for those salaries coming back into it so I think we were trying to be I want to say cautious but we're trying to be careful that we didn't put too much stuff in there that we couldn't sustain knowing that next year we have to absorb those as well so we're trying to find that balance to make sure that we maintain same service level um yeah because of that disaster we had when we merged the two in a typical wild um I think we've won I think we've kind of untangled that at this point um it seems I mean there was there was some um fine-tuning of which responsibility went back to which department once they were both mashed together but we've worked through that I will tell you
103that Mr Carlson and Mr Albert worked together fabulously the two the two of them it's it's very seamless stuff has been passing off from one to five with the other as it's made more sense for one individual to take it over or give it up so those two those two genes will work really really hard to kind of get us back to where we were is that something you could just like we do with guidance is it something you could bring back like a mid-year for the other two bring back like basically report back kind of like we do with guidance like basically report back to make sure good positions just to make sure because that's the other side of the coin like we did that for Guidance with the retiring guidance director and you
104kind of came back and gave us like can we do the same thing or specializes what do you want just like if we needed more positions to just make sure absolutely I'm sorry I didn't understand that question yeah let's try it like you said we're trying to level up the mistakes in the past yeah you can definitely do that Tony I just want to say we have the committee you and Jenna was a fabulous job for the budget season the first few bumps in the road yeah I think uh we got it done and compliments to my fellow rep from Billerica who um saved the day I guess but uh let us through it and now we know where we're at thank you we're okay I did see a lot of uh Co-op kids from
105grower throughout this well I'm guessing you guys are getting your tax dollars in the education here thank you moving on I'm sorry I couldn't help myself I apologize okay next we're gonna go to the sub 3D reports we're actually doing a chair for that but you kind of cheered that's all that you've made oh yeah the Union contract yeah we did meet beginning of May and they didn't totally agree with what we had presented at the last meeting so we made some adjustments and as far as I know you you haven't met at all or they reviewed it we did me and there was there was some additional questions that were brought up um so we have a meeting Thursday which I hope to finalize the clerical contract that meeting um I believe the cath
106unit one is done at this point we've sent the we sent the redline document to the draft agreement to their representative for their review I believe I sent that to Howard as well for Howard's review from from our side um and hope I'm I'm cautiously optimistic that on Thursday we'll be able to resolve the one the one pending issue that we have and also finalize clerical as well I just want to say thank you that's such a hard thing to do and um it's so impressive you guys do that work so thank you for that we don't mean business have been um if you run Paddy we'll move on to the pulse we subcommittee we met recently we went through Section D we had three policies that we weren't finished with just three as we
107went over them two have now been completed will um look those over on our next meeting as well as that third and then we should be able to take D into um our next school community meeting for a boat um I did uh estimate with Dorothy's help where I think um will be at this time next year and we should be able to finish based on the very um uh uh extreme schedule we've we've done to commit ourselves to the process of getting it done by the end of next year this year this next school year so this time next year we will hopefully be finished with the whole thing that would be great and then it'll just be updates as we went but the meeting like every month for everybody yes yes that's Monumental
108face they did a lot of hard work how many what happened some conversations about trying to pull a meeting together I know I know Patty's had some scheduling conflicts everyone had a few deaths in this month yeah hopefully it was rough year hopefully we'll get it back on track this year so it's not going to be this again I would defer to Patty I mean we've talked about it I just don't know where it stands Oh you mean you're going to Maine whoa nice taking my graduate granddaughter oh that's awesome graduation present kind of soil I owe you to her mother as well you know all the little stuff so I really want to be in on that trying I want to be in on Paris I will switch places the meeting when she's going
109to pass and Christine I like it are you gonna get all the same people every joint policy next year because they're so aggressive [Laughter] we were letting her continue to boss us around all right the next item uh an old business which is the results of the superintendent evals they followed by mental past these are earlier that um so one that was smooth Sharon had kind of put it together as far as the results and all the submissions that you received kind of your thing so I'll let you do studying discussion talk about it I think from talking to Karen um expecting all positive stuff for the most part there were people made comments when they didn't have to when there's a positive nature and like I said once we've discussed this all become public
110record after there's anything hidden I think um I know what I I saw presented it is I'm looking at the final results of all of us that uh I am just um thank you I think it's definitely in the right historical impressives here but I think it's definitely Communications thank you Tony as I said I thought you were yeah you've had an incredible first year hit the ground running um I've told anybody and anybody we got a great superintendent here and we like to really hold on to it and we also have a great businessman we've uh you guys had a great year and uh yeah I mean uh there's certain things that you'd like to see um different progress on but overall I felt that it was a very efficient job both of you
111in all areas thank you gonna be around a while no you can't go anywhere now four years I told you this is I tell everybody I said this this guy he is vocational education so we couldn't have picked a better superintendent and Jenna's been here and so I mean you've got a good team I know I know I know some of the time managers I know you'll it's going to come I gotta come around I'm gonna be okay you know and you admitted yes I you know maybe did a few things different but a I don't I don't want to say theoretical but like a proposed timeline for when we expect to get Chapter 70 money uh Chapter 70 numbers next year when we want to kind of bring it to budget when we want
112to have a public hearing and my intent is to just push that out to the town managers um I will say some of them were a little bit more forthcoming with information about their process after a meeting this year some of them weren't so I'm hoping that that also improves on their end too because it's hard for us to plan around their budget cycle when they don't share dates for their meetings with us so again I'm hoping that this is more of a two-way street if you get more we'll buy in early on from them around the process and what we're trying to do and you know we're obviously we're trying to follow our regional agreement and follow our guidelines and hopefully the lines more closely with what their needs are next year and we'll
113do our best to work through that and try to make sure that that happens I think negative experience is going to have good dividends because you reached out and have that I think it only can bring good stuff well yeah I think it was good throwing pains and I think I've always caught everybody it's understandable and understands at the end of the day but to understood it's about the students we have some Growing Pains amongst each other [Music] I think thank you for doing it thank you wealthy patience because I know it wasn't whose times it wasn't easy so it wasn't for you to listen to um did everybody through the chair did everybody find it wasn't as daunting as you thought I usually nervous I mean you've done it now um you made the
114comments we've got this uh I don't think we have to vote this no this just becomes palatony it's part of his public record that obviously during the standards everybody a majority was proficient and um and this will become part of the public record you can see that obviously significant progress towards a professional practice student learning the district employment every majority of healthy met those you can the comments we're not going to read all those uh everything else is pretty proficient proficient you're deemed proficient unless we felt that uh you weren't doing the job so um that's where we're at yeah well no next year if if there is such a thing if there was like more of a computer-based evaluation might be nice you know just to you know go on fill everything in and
115perform horrible form and it would just kind of compile all the answers and maybe a little easier you know it was fine you know what you can right but well thank you Karen for putting it out there in the word document that's what we got yeah I took this week and through each other we took it off the masc website and the VA ESC and this is what the Committees all out there are using right no and I know what you mean I know yeah so we'll get there okay it's going there so Microsoft formed I'm sure the same thing thank you the sort of learning experiences now you know what the timeline generally is so that if somebody isn't you know like for example Billerica is going to be dealing with a new in
116terms of pretend that they're going to be very busy if they don't have a chance to reach out and say hey this is our timeline now you know to say hey yeah the budget subcommittee which I think we've been saying for a while these call like those timelines would be taken into consideration like the extent of talk about like at some point this year before probably summer and talked to Segway you know Burlington sit down and stress yeah we can stress that I think that's helpful for all the people to do with sound managers and then the bud subcommittee can take that information have some type of planning meeting in the fall as the first meeting to plan all those timelines in so you're meeting all that yeah and I think Jen and I kind
117of had similar ideas and from our end also coming back with here's our Target for Capital here's our Target for operation you know and how all that fits together and how to finalize all of that stuff um one suggestion I would like to make I know we kind of did this more into the school year this year so as we start to look at maybe planning for that that summer Retreat um I know I think it was the last school committee meeting we went through and we looked for the focus elements that people wanted to really kind of hone in on I would suggest we kind of flip-flop that model so like over the summer whatever the committee is looking towards and also if there's things you know from from a collective body that you
118want to Target as far as a district Improvement kind of thing or there's something that you want the two of us to bring online I might think we can develop goals around that as well so I think having more input early on in the process will help make this a little bit more a little more robust going into next year and hopefully it'll make the process that much easier but find it out that would be my only suggestion yeah no that would always be fair for you to have a full year of at least we could have implemented so that's the important part and I would fine-tune it and go for it from there and I obviously want to thank Karen for putting it all together here's a question I have um is Karen the
119one that we should put this burden on I don't know if it was a burden to her or not or how I mean I don't know how you know if that's who usually does it I don't see an issue with it but I don't I don't know how much I know in the background that I read I think it was from masc that they recommended that it wasn't the committee members themselves that did it that it wasn't I don't want to say third priority but you know somebody that wasn't actually part of the body which I think makes sense Okay and like that I just I'm not trying to think of you do a great job I just don't know if you like it so Tony why am I doing why did I get stuck
120doing it that's what I wanted yes I actually enjoyed it I enjoyed reading the comments because I work with companies I wanted to do it oh you fudged the comments we'd like to have you lay out your goals in the summer Retreat so you know I now eat a full year under your belt or anything Charlie yeah and hopefully uh we're gonna be talking about the date of the retreating is that something you can look at to your point maybe if there is a system or something the state recommends for this maybe it was just like some type of like form or something else but it'll make it easier because then they'll just tally everything yeah we could try yeah sounds good okay if that's it we're going to move on to new business Wayne
121the first thing is the macsc official in alternate delegates for the conference in the fall how do you entering I was I was the official last year ended up not being able to go conflict that I had last year as an annual conflict it does not conflict this year so I have a retention I have every intention of going to the to the conference all right because I had to take over laughs it was Patty last year anybody's welcome to attend I mean I'll actually go this year like last year when I said I'd go and I didn't I don't know how many it was Mas official if you want that sure and I will nominate Terry Hills the official second on that any more discussion if not all those places opposed unanimous ly as
122well did you say you wanted to be okay on you one second of that any uh further discussion if not all favorite yeah next we uh going on the student out of state field trips how do we get to go to Italy yeah one motion I make a motion that we approve all of the requested out of state field trips as written in the agendas okay did you expect that okay any further discussion hearing none all those favor opposed next week five students are going okay next is the disposal of the surplus vehicles [Music] earlier yeah the school committee is supposed to approve uh any disposal of surplus equipment materials except for our old textbooks and I forget how it's worked um essentially we have two vehicles um and indeed Dave Dave is actually on
123vacation this week so he wasn't here to kind of talk through this but he provided this information so there's a 1968 Ford pickup truck that was purchased um originally the idea was to do a restoration in celebration of the I think it was the 50th anniversary for the school um and again it's it's been bouncing around for a little while for a couple of years here um what has come to light is that the the skill level and kind of the um the interest level of students to work on a restoration project really isn't there so what has happened at this point in time is it's essentially been the instructors that have been working on it and they came forward to Dave and said this really doesn't fit in with the curriculum you know this
124is something that well it was a great idea at the time they want to move on from this um and suppose and I don't I don't know much about old Ford pickup trucks but it's supposedly this particular year this particular model there is some interest out there it's it's something that I guess appeals to a segment of that hot rod population so they're asking for permission to again we'll we'll post this as an option as a public auction or however you decide to move forward with a second vehicle is actually a was a donation from another school who had it and didn't have a place to keep it and got sick of kind of storing it um the the problem with the second vehicle is it's a roadster and it doesn't have a top on
125it so it ends up we end up moving it around a lot trying to cover it up we have done nothing with the vehicle since it was done with the stone cool and again instead of us just moving it from spot a to spot B to spot C and back again the instructors did come forward and say this again this really doesn't fit with what we're doing for a curriculum with our students um it was you know it's kind of a nice thing to roll out on open house or showpiece but realistically with the student population we have and our struggles for space they just they really don't they don't fit within the programs very disposable Surplus I mean we're going to sell them yeah so we'll get money yes and then we can put
126that back into the program yeah it'll go into it'll either go into the general revolving fund or we I mean if people want we can designated for the two programs depending on how we want to call it out so is there a market for the both of them then the first one you said there is yeah it's my understanding as a market for both look at Nancy's version and if there's an option it'll be and yeah I mean we've we've talked about this gov deals there's a few other ones out there which are these online companies and essentially what they do is um they'll they'll post it on their website it's you know it's Nationwide any you know anybody from anywhere in the US can bid on them and then what they do is is
127that site makes money they charge a service charge to the person that wins the auction so we would get the full dollar like say we sold it for fifteen thousand dollars we get the fifteen thousand dollars the purchaser then pays gov deals whatever their commission is to host the auction on top of what we would get for the vehicle right Jenna do you have an opinion on whether the money gets directed back to the two shops put in revolving fund or no decision if I was going to make a decision tonight I would say put it in the revolving for both programs close to bylaw dictate where it goes I'm not sure I can go I don't think so I don't remember seeing anything especially don't they own them those cards technically those are the
128Departments no I mean the school on I mean the school is we have titles for both of them and I think the other thing we have to look at is if again I think there's been work on both vehicles from both departments so then do we take the total and split it in half as one committed more financial resources to it than another one so I think there's some Logistics that we'll have to work through once we know what we get for sure yeah with those two programs yeah I just think it's really too bad that we never finish what we envisioned you know and you can always do an auction by yourself Nationwide you know it could have you know yeah if you know there's interest we can put it up on the website
129and if it doesn't get us anywhere with somebody else although it doesn't sound like we lose any money no yeah the nice thing about most of those Services is they'll come out they'll take pictures of it don't so I mean there is there is a little bit of a uh my customer service element that they provide as well which is nice I'm just kind of thinking of PR like social media you know if we were to have the auction live that might be really you know something cool you know in my plan you know to have you know the kids come and families and the communities you know maybe have a food truck have an auction have social media all over the place just thinking the vehicles discussion all those in favor I I opposed
130thank you okay the next item is I'm going to be discussion of the programmable sign this is an initiative Ron has started in uh we kind of talking about this already ran with you take over I think I'm going to show you the other first ones talked about maybe be nice to have a sign here on the table and I wasn't I forgot about it Tony says hey remember that sign well you know just one thing that you know I'm rely on you know my daughter one of my children still attends uh Public School in Tewksbury so if I'm driving down Pleasant Street in in Tewksbury and there's a half day tomorrow I drive by and there is a digital sign uh that is you know we're outside of the school um that you can
131program and you can have different messages you know um that you know we you know just suggested that maybe it might be nice to have something like that here at the shop um just to keep you know families on track or to congratulate people or you know 10 days till school begins or vice versa you know you know things like that so that is what we were we were thinking so and I I kind of took the original suggestion I I and I had some reservations about putting something on Cook Street um those of you that drive through that intersection know that it's a little a little tricky at times with people not necessarily paying attention so I didn't really want drivers trying to read our programmable sign on Cook Street because I didn't want
132us to get the reputation for causing multiple vehicle accidents which kind of led to some some other conversations and what we can do so the main entrance out here there is a pretty dated version of the Old School logo which has I won't say is in disrepair but it's it's showing its age um it's starting to yell when you turn some colors um so what this proposal is is we've uh Bob Waller and I went out and took a look at it and then Bob reached out to this company um we would we were proposing to put a programmable sign to replace the one that's on the building the other concern that I had is we have a lot of residential neighbors as well and I didn't want something that was out there on at
133night and getting a lot of complaints from our neighbors that you know we it added this source of Illumination and Disturbed sleep patterns or whatever it was so the other thing with the programmable one on the building is you know I'm envisioning like from 7 A.M to 5 p.m or whatever it is or maybe we go later on school committee nights or whatever you know but essentially kind of shutting it off kind of at dusk um and then you know turning it on again in the morning but again the same thing you were talking about you know the date of the prom or congratulations to our skillsusa winners or the last day of school is blah blah blah but just have something and if any of you have ever been here either in the morning
134or when school gets out we have a parade of cars that come through here on a daily basis so again having those parents and having that message as a reminder to them oh yeah you know my kids got to do this or yeah this is is coming up or so I mean that was that was my suggestion the thing that I like about the design that that Bob has researched here on the top and the bottom are static so even when it shut off it will say Shawsheen Valley Technical High School in a nice and nice lettering at the top and again he did Rams we can put a logo on both sides we could you know we can do whatever so it'll still display the name of the school and our mascot or whatever
135we want to put on it and then the programmable sign we can turn on and shut off you know during business hours I think you mean um zoning violence I think you need to talk to the town of the liquor again I I wanted to ask the committee kind of the committee's blessing but yes we will definitely pursue that and make sure that we have all the all the permits and approvals before we move forward and I do and and I've told you I have a problem with the money because we had such a of a time with the budget this year and we went way over and you know so we were getting this twenty thousand dollars or more right so what I mean what we had talked about is is at the end
136of the year if there was Surplus left um now I don't know that we're going to have that but again I want I wanted to bring it to the committee and say is this something that you support if that money is if that money is there at the end is this something we can move forward with I didn't want to wait till the June meeting to then bring this up and then kind of miss that that window of opportunity again I don't know um we're not you know we're not there yet we haven't got down to the nitty-gritty of what's left um but if it is I think this is a great kind of PR excuse me I think so I think it's nice Edition where is it going so when you come in the
137front between the two main front doors it's currently like a plastic glass sign and it's it's like a it almost looks like a giant moon shape with the Ram's Head as kind of merged into one side of it okay but yeah it would go it would go right between the two main entries whether it's invisible if it's flat against yeah this this particular design is is designed to mount so it only has the screen on one side one side it's not it's not double-sided um I just have a question I just have to say one word please don't make it tacky I really I mean I think I think great idea for the messaging and not not flashing constantly changes go through Tewksbury they have something out there and uh no I mean I'm sure
138you can do it well but I feel just my first words we'll keep it classy yeah this might be a sensitive subject but is there any real attachment to the the picket fence that's out front that's around the sign if you you know there's a you know a sign that looks like Mason where you put together there's like a little picket fence and then some you know it just just wondering if there's you know one on the street yeah I might have more idea on that she's been here long ago I have no attachments are there any significance Pride the big sign up yeah but we used to have to have it cleaned every year the other stuff because we were going to do some stuff out there that was his price I mean we
139can look at three Landscapes not spending more money I would say you know if we let's take a look at the books you know something if we get the money let's do it the purpose is great it ideally would be something that would be part of a capital budget um because it is clearly a capital item and I did have a similar reaction when I saw it that okay if the five representative Financial representatives of the communities you just you and Jenna just did a wonderful job uh pacifying um what would their take on this be and even though this is of a lower lower magnitude than the money that we were dealing with there and that's the it's an appearance issue more than any so maybe we in June we see if we legitimately
140have money that a surplus so rather than just you know doing unpurposeful spending that sometimes happens in government agencies um that would be purposeful if we have it and take take that out but I do have a little concern about I can just see this um somebody from some Town um that had issues with budgeting saying what we went through that you got your final approval and the next week you approved it serves a great purpose something to think about yeah yeah and we do have we do have some things in that capital budget that are already kind of year mag for Surplus so I mean that's also kind of going to be part of the conversation that we come up on so we've we've kind of almost projected that we're going to have some
141now this wasn't obviously part of that original proposal but again I and honestly Justified we can certainly justify look we didn't spend X right right right and and honestly the reason I brought it to him I didn't think it was my decision to make a long time that process myself so I don't know we need to get a motion if you have the money available or it's just you just inform inform only everybody you thought for the next meeting I mean you already have emotion in a second okay again I want us to move forward and try to research this more find out if there's any zoning concerns if there's any permitting issues um you come back for our June you know for the June meeting and report on that if your plan is they're
142gonna make a money transfer to pay for it to Paddy's Point that'll have to happen in the June meeting anyway I know but my point is is like if you're going to do that it's you don't have the funds it's kind of waste time and with all the zoning and all that so I would say probably to Patty's Point make sure okay you can even approve to move the money the subject to build with no problems and that is an old business all right before I go to the next that's all before I go to the next bullet tonight there's one on it uh Nancy fortunate the beginning of the meeting just before rather and uh she's on the wellness committee and so she just wanted to speak on that a little bit we are
143going interesting time I just want to say real quickly um discuss the aeds which is something I was concerned about we've got eight of them in the building now and they want to read more so that's um something that they're going to have to find funding for she said during the nurse's budget probably we can also look at grant funding for the info I mean there's stuff that pops up from school safety I can put Jen on that I think uh it's worthwhile and also programs to combine CPR and AED training to make sure everybody gets it we had talked about um Jess and I and Mr Caruso um and um Christine Tobin and Sarah Croke had gone in Billerica to like a public safety meeting in the fall and I believe it is the
144director of their paramedic unit had offered to come out and do some of that training for us um so we're again we're trying to work something out certified yeah when we can get in again I think there was there was a limit on group sizes and some other stuff but we've been back and forth with them while trying to put something together something the number okay okay and the other issue was because I asked the difference between um gender identity and sexual orientation group and he took off [Music] came to a point where Christy said that it's an issue that people need that clarification in that discussion so she also talked about unisex bathrooms and trying to get more there's only two and that this whole issue around both gender identity and that's all involved
145so anyway it's got a beginning and uh I with your permission would like to have the nutrition director Colleen yeah and uh the health educator come and present with kind of what they were saying today I think we can all I know I benefited from it from so it's up to you guys um if you want to have them I really liked it when we had you want to have a video yeah I know there's been a lot of laws changes have to do with all of that but I mean it's a it's a personal issue that I don't know about anybody else but I had questions that I can't always get answers to we could all benefit from it exactly you thinking the June meeting you think you're coming back no no and if
146you think it's a good idea I'll stay in touch with Christine and each other is that all right yeah every day not as much as we should you know what what language means to some of us it means something else to somebody else I just wanted to say real briefly that um we're getting an AED at the community Pantry so we did a CPR and first aid training with a boric firefighter it went very well um and just to reassure everyone aeds are getting smarter and smarter every day and uh you could have never touched one and you open it and it to the point of do CPR now like it literally get down with me go do what you need like it's it's and I've heard some of them even have metronomes in them
147so that you're doing CPR at the right rate so aeds are definitely because all is right in the next town right um makes aeds or maybe it'd be helpful to update things anyway thank you the next item one of the thing is the potential change of the June date that's something I'm bringing forward I uh I was planning my vacation for a month and a half ago and uh we'll look back and forth with the air for years and I thought I booked everything for Wednesday morning the morning after our meeting but I have to kind of put my itinerary together about a week and a half ago I realized my flight is Tuesday morning just before the meeting so I I would go miles and back and forth from Airlines and somehow I must
148just missed it because I see you're leaving Tuesday the 27th right I'm leaving the day of the meet instead of the Fall instead of the Wednesday and so I don't know how inconvenient it might be for the other members to if we could move that I was thinking maybe the Tuesday it's the 20th to the 20th maybe and I'm supposed to be meeting Charlie like to move it to the 13th yes I'm sorry yeah whatever the Tuesday before the coming Tuesday you know and I know it's a little shorter window as far as I mean but we are going to be setting up a retreat in July and I'm assuming if anything came we could probably could merge that into that if we get caught thank you [Music] agenda is except uh the 19th is
149a state holiday yeah I thought if I thought of just pushing one and then I realized that was quality unfortunately which just means you guys aren't in the building the building's not open I Believe by law you can't have a meeting I don't know what the Wednesday or Thursday looks like with the Monday before so we're lucky at the week of the 12th I'll make myself available so are you out that whole week because we have quorum that's okay that's fine I came to put I apologize it's okay I made emotions yeah we choose meeting to Tuesday June 13th same time second second any further discussion all those in favor I want to thank everybody for their cooperation okay so yeah before we we're going to go to the retreat date I I know we
150talked about you know are we looking at the calendar to see if they had any specific days I'd like to try it so um and open it up if anybody's thought of when they'd like to see it's usually the beginning of July of anybody the set with the the seventh the Fourth of July Falls of that week I don't know I mean well that week I'm up no good it depends you know people does the retreat have to be at the school no but I mean in the summer someone's house is like a cookout or I I don't know I'm just it's got to be posted as a public meeting yeah if you're thinking out loud but do we video it like is it [Music] anybody that wants to attend yeah last summer we had
151a good special guest that was like my first my section so they were special did we have it in August last year at the Friday the first Friday of July which is the week of July 4th but you're away yeah well I can come back I think on the 7th is that what you look um kind of left it open myself does it have to be a Friday it doesn't have to be yet man no whatever you know especially Nancy usually no no no I will make it work if you do it that week okay is there another day at what I said the seventh was that answers that's a short week so like look at the 10th the 10th is tough Monday is tough for me I can make it work if it works
152for everybody else but I would rather into Friday so I can only do Monday or Friday the Monday the 10th floor for everybody I'll make sure I'll make it work the food pantry can run without me they're all adults because I know I don't think we got a good expensive yeah sure let's book it down Charlie because before you know we're going to meet September again July 10th so July 10th like yeah roughly it depends we have we'll have a little bit of a gender and then what time uh Charlie did we start at eight or nine nine to two let's go 99 did I say eight it was let's go nine to two we have breakfast Karen will get us breakfast we'll have it agenda it's open meeting we'll have some lunch and uh
153[Music] make me okay the last item I think we have to wait on uh it may not be it says vote for the superintendent convict but um we have to go into an executive session for the purpose of potential litigation in the non-union context which is discussion with superintendents on track [Music] um 13. anybody have anything I have 13 everybody we have to come back to maybe vote another one anyway but I can ask that now um can we talk about the money to the parents for the forty dollars can we talk more yeah we'll just have a discussion of that oh yeah how it's implemented yeah and I'm very good exact seconds to make one comment just wasn't Teacher Appreciation Week yeah it was last last week and week before yeah so I mean
154we didn't probably so I just want to say like uh we appreciate it to bring things in and uh yeah that was I think it was a lunch bag or something something along those lines where I think it's good to say I mean it's my mom was a teacher I think people don't get enough appreciation yeah recognize you know all the teachers and staffers and staff thank you much appreciative to put it together what time do we need to be here for graduation I assume we're out during graduation like we did the previous year I believe it's five o'clock yeah five o'clock in the guest dining room cheese and crackers maybe in the guess time okay gotcha gotcha good okay um the retirement dinner party for the retirees at Longmeadow that's on the June 8th
1554 P.M if you kind of go with parano scholarship night is May 30th at 6 PM if any of you plan on attending that I do and obviously scholarship is when June I mean next Tuesday is yes one more time without we think that might be coming up but I might have missed okay if not let's take a motion to go into the executive section make a motion when you enter executive sessions to discuss potential litigation and the non-union contract thank you foreign thank you foreign thank you foreign thank you foreign thank you foreign thank you foreign thank you foreign thank you foreign thank you foreign thank you foreign thank you foreign thank you foreign thank you foreign thank you foreign executive session and the next item one the last item is uh I'll pull
156it on the superintendent's contract anybody have any motion I make a motion to give tony McIntosh a three percent race second is current the next current year seconded by Christine Christine I don't know if this needs a real cold or not okay any discussion on that all right opposed unanimous congratulations at our next meeting we're gonna do that yeah okay I don't think that needs to be part of the vote no no it's done right yeah shoot your business this isn't it like an item that we revisit this discussion habit for a future agenda right that's still going to be I don't think we need to make it more all right no Quinn wants to it any discussions thank you thank you Karen
