001Thank you for joining us tonight's school board meeting June 11th, 2026. It's 7:00. The first item on the agenda is approval of minutes May 21st, 2026. Does anybody have any amendments or changes to to the minutes? Nobody? Anybody? Right. They're approved. I can set. Let's move on. Invitation to speak. There's nobody here. Any announcements, correspondence, or distributions? Craig? >> Uh yeah, I have a few um First of all, we haven't had a meeting since graduation, so uh I just wanted congratulate um Principal Oatman and his staff for the fantastic um graduation that we had a couple weeks ago. Um It was a It was a great event and no hiccups, so um I thought it was well done. Um I I was invited to a Brookside multicultural fashion show uh I think last week or

002the week before. It was awesome. Um there were kids and and staff members dressed up in uh all kinds of um fashions from uh the cultures that they were from, so great event. Uh there was numerous bell ceremonies, so we we've just received the access scores, so graduating uh our EL students into the bell program now where um they no longer are receiving um English learner services and are in the general uh curriculum uh for the entire day. Uh they will be monitored, but great ceremonies and a lot to be proud of there. Um I I want to uh point out the artwork over here if you uh committee members, if you have a chance to take a look a close look at the jewelry and metal uh jewelry that's made out of metal over

003here. It's fantastic. Um Derek and I were looking at it earlier and he pointed out a few things that he would purchase if he could. So, um I'll keep them in mind if if the students are willing to sell, I know a buyer. But, they're they're really really [snorts] well done. Um so, congratulations to I guess Miss Snyder. Um the work that she's doing with with students is is amazing. Um but, take a closer look when you have a chance. Uh especially this one over here. It's it's a heart um that's cut out and there's a lot of details within it. So, it's it's pretty cool. Um I want to congratulate the volleyball team for making it to the final four out of 80 teams in the state. Um unfortunately, um they met their match

004the other day in the semi-final, but uh we're really proud of uh how well they did and they actually ended up um winning the sportsmanship award um for volleyball. So, congratulations to them. It's a well-run uh program by coach Mainini. Um so, again, lots to be proud of there and one final shout-out to um Melanie Figueroa and the after-prom committee. Uh Melanie is a uh staff member at actually a teacher over at Brookside, but she's she's been working on the after-prom committee now for four or five years. Um she has a a student that's I think maybe 2 years away from the prom as was I think she told me. Uh but, she hasn't actually had one of her other children go to the prom. So, she's been running this uh for the last four

005or five years and hopefully she does it for a couple more, but it's a tremendous amount of work that does uh with her committee and um it's a lot of fundraising and and it's it's it's hard work but it's it's very much appreciated and it's very much needed. So I just want to thank Melanie for all the work that she's doing there. Thank you. >> Anybody else? I went to the violin concert the third fourth graders last night. It was fantastic. So congratulations to all them and it's wonderful to see so many students participate in music. All right. Moving on. I have no update. MSBA Chris do you have anything? >> Yeah on Monday they did a walk through with the construction management companies. I believe two of them showed up. They had three proposals

006prior to that so that met the the requirements to move forward with a construction manager so with an at risk style. So we'll we'll go through next next week we start interviewing those construction managers both again Consigli Construction and um I want to say Shawmut. Can't remember exactly. Don't have my notes in front of me. So we have that. We'll have the construction management side from the design side of things. Again we're down to really just looking at the different thoughts and ideas of of how the you know design structure will be north side of the north side or south side with and without pools things of that. So we're just a lot of talking through. Again encourage everybody to to watch through the meetings that are that are televised as far more detail within

007the meetings that I than I can provide so but we're moving along and things are looking good. Thank you. >> [clears throat] >> Okay we're moving into the student family handbooks. So before we get into the meat and potatoes does anybody have any comments, edits on any of the yearbooks? I I mean the the handbooks. >> I have a question, Michael. >> Yeah. >> So, Cracker Woodland and Stacy's unchanged? >> Uh-uh. >> This is not a summary of what >> There's not a summary. I thought the Woodland >> see a red line if it >> Woodland one I thought definitely There there Yeah, it's if you look at the Woodland one um I'm looking at page seven. >> Okay. >> Staff members, you can see where they start. But but generally generally speaking, there are

008minimal changes on any of these. Um other than formatting, which we talked about try to make them all the same format. Um And then the other thing is at the end of all of them, we have a one sheet um one or one or one and a half sheet of all district policies. So, we took them out um so they're not all doesn't So, the handbook isn't a million pages long and you can just click on the links now. Um but we wanted to make sure everybody had the same district policies in their handbooks. Any other questions? >> Not at this time. >> All right. I think we approve them in one block. Got a motion to approve the 2026-2027 student family handbooks for Shining Star, Brookside, Memorial, Woodland, and Stacy, and Milford High School.

009Motion by Brandon, second by Derek. All in favor? It's unanimous. Motion passes. All right. Moving on to Nature's Classroom update. >> Um okay. Uh so, >> [clears throat] >> the Stacy folks have approached me um about switching Nature's Classroom the Nature's Classroom trip out of the middle school and into the Woodland Elementary School. Um what they've been noticing is declining numbers. So, I'll give you the numbers that we have over the last 5 years. In 2021, 150 students went. In 2022, 127 students went. 2023, 125 students went. 2024, 119. Last year, 85 students went. Um what they're noticing in in talking with Nature's Classroom and trying to get the numbers up is that the um most schools are going at a younger age. Uh and they're uh working with Woodland, the fifth grade um teachers

010and staff members um uh talking with Principal McGovern are um are ready, willing, and excited to bring this this trip into the fifth grade. However, it won't be a week-long trip. It'll be shorter. It'll be just like a 2-day trip. Uh so, hopefully that'll also drive the price down a little bit. It's not going to cut it in half, but it'll drive it down. Um But, it seems to be the sweet spot that other districts are are noticing. Um one thing one thing in bringing this down to fifth grade is trying to figure out how to handle any [clears throat] sixth grade uh rising sixth grade and rising seventh grade students that want to go. So, next year, we're going to have two trips. We'll have a sixth and seventh grade trip uh where all

011those students will go. Uh it's kind of like the similar experience that the seventh grade kids had this year. And then we'll have the fifth grade trip also. And then after that it'll just be a fifth grade trip. But just trying to like have that bridge year where all kids can still experience it and nobody feels like they were left out. So I don't think that you all have to vote on it. Other than it's an overnight trip that we're taking. So when we have the the details we will come to you with that. But I just wanted to keep you informed that we're going to start transitioning the trip from Stacy over to Woodland Elementary School. So I don't know if anybody has questions. >> Thank you. Any questions for Greg? >> Greg, maybe

012just confirming. So it's the same place, same location. So it's an in-state travel. I guess maybe then the only ask would be around communication to families cuz it has been a long standing tradition. So folks that will be have the opportunity to attend in the fall that maybe not have been expecting it would be nice to let them know sooner rather than later that that will exist. Cool. >> Will do. I'll make sure that um both schools send a note. >> [clears throat and cough] >> Thanks. >> Brendan, what's the approximate cost for Nature's Classroom? Just out of curiosity. >> For the week it's 500. >> Yeah, I was going to say five or six hundred for the the week. If it if it becomes a two-day trip I it's not going to be a

01350% off. It might be around 400 or three something. So um it'll be less. It's just not because of the bus travel that doesn't change, right? >> Any other questions on Nature's Classroom? >> [cough] >> No. All right, we're going to move into professional development update. Um We need to vote on this, so let's I'd like to have a vote, we'll enter discussion, and then we'll we'll formulate a motion, discussion, and then vote. So, do I have a motion to approve the professional development as presented? >> Motion by Brendan, second by Matt. Any discussion? No discussion? >> [cough and clears throat] >> Okay. All in favor? >> I abstain. >> Um six in favor, one abstention. Motion passes. Sorry. >> [clears throat] >> Apologies. All right, moving on. Report of the school business administrator. >>

014Um Okay, so you have basically just it's an FYI. Um there's nothing to vote, but it it's uh um personnel update for all of you. >> Thank you. Any questions on the personnel update? >> No. >> Okay, so uh next item is the out-of-state field trip and conference requests. This requires a vote. Craig, do you want to go through them? >> Yeah, do you need it the um Okay, so the first one is uh um a high school trip to Italy um in February of 2027. Um believe this year we went to France, I think. I I can't remember, actually. >> France. >> I think we did, though. Um so I guess um standard trip that looks like it's going to one week will be over the uh February vacation. Um that's the first one,

015and then the second one is an out-of-state conference request trip from um >> [clears throat] >> Jennifer Janian and Julia Latino. Um it they're looking they're just looking for the for you to approve the trip. It's of no cost. It's all funded through the title three grant. Uh so that will take place I got to click on the blank. I'm not sure. Hold on. It will take place in November of 2026. And all the information's there. But both require a vote. >> Any questions for Craig on the two out-of-state requests? Any comments? Right, do I have a motion to approve the out-of-state request for the international field trip to Italy and the out-of-state conference to New Mexico? Motion by Meg, second by Derek. All in favor? It's unanimous. Motion passes. Consent agenda. So, we have

016the a warrant for $1,724,000 $889.87. Um we have approval for grants, acceptance of gifts, and declare e-waste as surplus. Do we have Do we want to pull anything? Any questions on any of them? No questions? Any questions? All right. Do I have a motion to approve the consent agenda as presented? Motion by Meg, second by Matt. All in favor? It's unanimous. Motion passes. Any subcommittee updates? >> Labor management met this week, Michael. Um it was really good conversation. So, I think in the past we've covered a lot of facilities items, which has been really nice to see sort of the progress and the traction that the facilities team and system has gotten in terms of closing tickets. And so, a lot of the conversation was really about how do we move that committee forward in

017terms of thinking about overall process changes and things we want sort of the district to have a chance to address. So, we're Craig's going to work on sort of reformatting and creating an agenda for that meeting for the next school year and expanding the time to accommodate those items. So, I think those will be really productive discussions. But, no significant items were raised by the team at the current meeting. >> You captured it all. Any other subcommittee updates? Policy meets tomorrow. Great. Any future agenda items? Okay. We're going to move into executive session. Do I have a motion to move into executive session? Roll call vote. Motion by Matt. Seconded by John. >> Yes. >> And yes, everybody's yes. We move into executive session. >> And we'll have you back in 10
