On behalf of the faculty, staff, and students, I want to welcome you to the commencement ceremony for the class of 2025. [Applause] These graduates have worked hard for the past 13 years to get to this stage. As we celebrate their achievement and to help keep this ceremony respectful and memorable for all, the senior class asks that you turn off cell phones or any other devices that may be disruptive for the

remainder of the ceremony. Tradition dictates that audience members stand as the graduates enter the arena. Please stand and let's welcome our graduates to the floor. [Applause] [Music] Hallelujah. [Music] Got it. [Music] high. Hey [Music] I don't think I've done this before. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Yeah. [Music] Hey, wait. Heat. [Music] Heat. [Applause] It is my pleasure to bring up the students who have earned the opportunity to speak to the graduating class of 2025. We will now hear from our top 1% of this year's graduating class and our student

body president. First, please welcome from our top 1% of the graduating class, Brian Wong. [Applause] All right, testing. Testing. Good afternoon everyone. My name is Brian Wong and it is a pleasure and honor to be in here in front of all of you today to celebrate Independence's class of 2025. I first want to congratulate everyone who made it here today as it was a difficult task dealing with the rocky transition from school to high school, especially with our last two years of middle school being online. However, you all put up the effort to build yourselves up from that obstacle. So, please congratulate yourselves for working so hard to make it here. [Applause] It has been a long journey to get here and I do not believe I could have made it here today without the

help of many teachers that I've have had over these years. In particular, I would like to give special thanks to Mr. Aspar for not only making my first year of high school a fun one, but also having it be an effective way in helping me relearn how to attend physical education and helping me create a strong foundation for the rest of my high school years. Mr. Blankenship for pushing me to my limits in my junior year and for also placing so much of his own personal free time to make personalized practice tests or give helpful advice that has helped me become the most efficient version of myself. And Mr. Graham for often just being around giving greetings and words of encouragement that has placed a smile on my face so many times and kept me

going on frustrating days. Next, I want to thank my mom and dad over there for always checking up on me and making sure I was staying in good health. for always making sure that I stay in good health and keeping me on track, especially on days when I burnt myself out to exhaustion. Finally, I would like to thank Independence High School and their faculty for having me, for your kindness and compassion and having been a positive influence on my life. Thank you all for being here today and sharing the milestone of the class of 2025. And I wish you all the best. And now, please welcome Tiffany Vu. [Applause] Hello, good afternoon faculty, family, friends, and graduates. My name is Tiffany Vu, and it's an honor to speak on behalf of the class of 2025.

Today represents the pinnacle of our journey shaped by years of hard work, obstacles overcome, and memories made. As we begin on this new journey, I want to leave you all with the gift, a camera. Metaphorically, it represents the ability to capture the fleeting moments of life. High school has been like a camera lens. with each experiences capturing a snapshot of our memories. Every moment is worth cherishing and telling a unique part of our journey. I want to start off by thanking my parents and thank you for my family for flying in from across the country to celebrate the special moment with me. I also want to say thank you to my teachers, especially Miss Marshall and Mr. Blankenship for trans expanding my knowledge and transforming me into a leader. Lastly, thank you Independence High School

for being my second home and family. High school has shaped us in distinct ways. And no matter where we go, these experiences will carry with us. As we turn the page to the next chapter, take your camera and seize every moment. Make the most of the time ahead, whether it's college, trade school, or the military. I wish you all the best as you embark on this new journey. As Frank Ocean says, we'll never be those kids again, reminding us that time never slows down, and the moments we have now are fleeting. It's important to capture them like a photograph before they slip away become memories we can never no longer um relive. It's no longer about having a great summer, but about having a great life. Thank you, class of 2022 25, for all the

memories that we've created together. It's been an unforgettable ride. Good luck on all your upcoming journeys. Congratulations once again, class of 2025. Now, please welcome to the stage, Dominic Wood. [Applause] Good afternoon, esteemed faculty, family, and of course the graduating class of 20125. My name is Dominic Wood, and I would like to start by expressing gratitude for those who have supported me in this pretty tumultuous ride of passage. I had such an honor working with some brilliant faculty, those who cared about wanting me to succeed and pushing me to do just that. I am also blessed to have such a supportive family who have given me the ingredient for me to do better and keep pushing myself. That ingredient being love. And I've made so many new friends who I'm just super grateful to have

in my life. I genuinely cannot express my gratitude for those who have supported me over my journey in the conventions of standard English since I feel it transcends even beyond that. I genuinely mean this when I say this to those who have supported me, friends, family, educators, and anyone in between. Thank [Applause] you. As one of the speakers today, I would like to share some takeaways for all of us to take in as we fully enter adulthood and the real world. We've seen firsthand that the world isn't rainbows and butterflies, and we're constantly reminded of the blankness of the world, especially on the news and media. But as Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, "What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us. Don't let the glooiness

of the world intimidate you. You are all more than capable of being and doing well with what you have inside. We have grown and learned so much and now it is up to take us and take this world and do better. Take pride in your amazing accomplishments today and be sure to celebrate with those who have helped you succeed today. But know to never stop learning and to never stop growing. Don't just survive, but thrive. Congratulations class of 2025. You all got this. I would like to know I now have the pleasure of welcoming Mr. Alan Sun to the [Applause] stage. This day wouldn't mean as much without the people who got us here. So, good afternoon to our families, our mentors, and our friends. My name is Ellen Sona, and as we reflect on

how far we've come, I found meaning in unexpected places. One of them is a symbol from tarot, the 12th card in the major arcana, the hanged man. He is pictured hanging upside down from a tree, suspended by his ankle in a moment of stillness, but also transformation. For those unfamiliar with tarot, each card carries a meaning. The hanged man symbolizes sacrifice, patience, and the wisdom to pause before moving forward. His suspension is not a punishment, but a necessary step for growth, whether to correct past mistakes or to reevaluate his path. Though the world may not always understand his choice, he embraces his journey, seeing life from a different perspective. Class of 2025, our journey reflects this figure. We have sacrificed time, energy, comfort to reach this milestone, saying up late studying, facing doubt, or even

missing moments to focus on our goals. Nonetheless, these sacrifices were not in vain. They have built resilience, patience, and determination shaping us into who we are today. Even for our amazing faculty and staff, the amount of time, money, and patience you had to let go just to see us pass our classes were not wasted. As we step into this next chapter, remember that progress isn't always about moving forward. is about knowing when to pause, reflect, and confidently take your next step. Your sacrifices have brought you here, and your strength will carry you forward. To my teachers, thank you for your wisdom. To my peers, thank you for your encouragement. And to my family, thank you for always being there. Kum slang and neck. And soon, we will leave this arena filled with joy as our

accomplishments come to light. And finally, even if these next months feel uncertain, remember this from The Great Gatsby. And so with the sunshine and the gray burst of leaves growing on the trees just as things grow in fast movies, I had the familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer. Thank you. And now, please welcome Lantron to the [Applause] stage. Good afternoon staff, family, and especially my fellow graduates of 2025. My name is Lance Chong and I am proud to be here to congratulate each and every one of you who has put in the work and effort to make it this far. Be proud of who you are and how far you've come. And it is commendable to be able to stand next to those you've annoyed and shared a laugh with

through tight bonds forged from unexpected seating charts. I'd like to thank the staff who pushed through so much trouble to raise us from the ground up in the wake of an educational epidemic. I'd like to extend a special thanks to Mr. Odum who truly left a mark on me despite his departure two years ago. Thank you, mom and dad, for spoiling me, cherishing me, and pushing me so hard to strive for all those A's and challenging classes since the day I was born. Although it made my life a difficult one, I don't regret a thing. It was fulfilling, engaging in environment with others who have also pushed themselves beyond to seek a greater education, a greater future, and froze those enticing free college credits. My dream after today is to pursue art. My cousin Gon

ignited this play of passion in me when I was just a child, teaching me art could genuinely be something worthwhile. Although I have been privileged to be taught by caring teachers and even luckier to be born in a supportive family, I have worked hard to achieve my dream. And I believe it is worthwhile to chase yours. Even if it's more costly in terms of time or wealth, this life is your one and only one. So always try your hardest and do all make you happy. Although we may all today, we will all look back upon these unforgettable memories. Thank you all for being a part of my journey. Go out, take risks, and I wish you all the best in your futures to come. Please welcome to the stage student body president Vanna Jackson. Good

afternoon everyone. My name is Briana Jackson and as a proud senior at Independence High School and soon to be freshman at North Carolina ent State University, I am truly I am truly honored to stand here before you all. Looking back on these past four years, I am beyond blessed for the journey I've been able to experience with you all. When I first walked through the doors of IHS, I knew no one. Moving from another state was intimidating, but the warmth and kindness I found here changed everything. Independence became more than just a school. It became a home thanks to you all. The friendships I've made shaped me, giving me the confidence to express myself in ways I never could before. Co-founding our first Black Student Union organization, managing multiple sports on campus, and being your

0202024 2025 student body president has been an incredible honor. And while I've received awards such as the Achievement Above All Award and a certificate from and a certificate of excellence from the Glendo Police Department, nothing compares to the privilege of crossing the stage with you all today. To my family, Tiffany, Mrs. Marshall, and most importantly, Jesus Christ. Thank you for your love, support, and guidance. And thank you to everyone who is here with us today to experience this moment of achievement. Whether you are watching from the stands, watching at home, or watching from the heavens above. Class of 2025, we are just getting started. The world is waiting for us, and I know that we will make our mark. Congratulations. We made it. Thank you. [Applause] Thank you for those speeches, ladies and gentlemen, and

congratulations again to our top 1% and student body president. I would now like to recognize the top 10% of this graduating class whose names are designated in your program. Please stand and be recognized if you are in the top 10% of this graduating class. [Applause] Seniors. Thank you. You may be seated. At this time, it is my pleasure to welcome Glendel Union High School District Governing Board President, Patty Kennedy. Mrs. Kennedy, a dedicated member of the GHSD community, was elected in November 2010. Having graduated from Moon Valley High School, she shares a strong connection with the school as her two children and several other family members also attended. Patty generously dedicated her time as a volunteer for the Moon Valley's theater program. Apart from her active involvement in educa in the educational realm, she is

an ardent gardener with a special passion for cacti. Leveraging her extensive experience as an accountant, Patty has served as CFO for a local law firm, bringing her financial expertise to the organization. Please welcome President Kennedy to the podium. [Applause] Good afternoon, Independence High School class of 2025. I am excited to be here to celebrate with all of you, your families, and your friends. Before I address the graduates, I first want to thank those who have helped them get to this important day. Parents, families, and friends of today's graduates, thank you for your support, your assistance, your guidance, and maybe most of for all your patience during these high school years. Faculty, staff, and administration of Independence High School. It is due in no small part to your dedication and your support that these students are

well on their way to being productive, well-educated, and active members of our community. So, thank you very much. Graduates, congratulations. You are standing at a precipice. Now you are adults with all that entails. The world is calling on you not just to show up, but to shape the future. And today I want to talk to you about two things that may not seem flashy or like maybe they even necessarily don't even go together, but they do. And they are powerful. Kindness and civic responsibility. Currently and maybe always, the world is loud. Opinions fly, tempers flare, headlines are blaring, and social media is beckoning. But amid all that noise, it is easy to think that strength means shouting louder or winning every debate. But real strength often looks quieter. It is the courage to listen when

it is easier to shout. It is the decision to show empathy when it is easier to be indifferent. It is making the choice to care even when the world feels cold and uncaring. Kindness is not weakness. It is nothing less than revolutionary. It is a vote for the kind of world in which you want to live. And every time you treat someone with respect, lift someone up, or even just hold back a harsh word, you are casting that vote. But it doesn't stop there. Civic responsibility is kindness on a grand scale. It is realizing that you are not just individuals. You are members of your communities. You can choose to give back, to speak up, to vote, to volunteer, to build bridges rather than walls. Maybe you're thinking, "But I am just one person. What

can I really do?" But every movement in history, every real lasting change started with someone asking that same question and then doing something small that changed the course of history. So as you step into adulthood, I challenge you, be civically responsible and be kind. Not just when it's easy, but especially when it's hard. Be involved, not just when you're told to, but because your voice matters. Your choices matter. Your vote matters. And most of all, you matter. Kindness and civic responsibility are not just ideas. They are actions. And they start with you. Congratulations, Independence class of 2025. Now go out there and make the world better. one small step and one kind act at a time. Thank you, President Kennedy. It is my honor as principal of Independence High School to certify that these students

have met the requirements for graduation as set forth by the state of Arizona and the Glendale Union High School District. Mrs. Kennedy, I respectfully request that you accept these graduates and that you and Mr. Capistran confer diplomas upon them. As a member of the governing board of the Glendale Union High School District and by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the state of Arizona, I accept and confirm that the independence class of 2025 has met the requirements for graduation by the Glendale Union High School District governing board. Mr. Ditto, please present your graduates to receive their [Applause] diplomas. During the presentation of diplomas, the graduating class requests that you hold your applause and verbal support until all diplomas have been distributed so that all senior names can be heard.
