like-minded people who motivated me to continue my education the list goes on but the point is that whenever there was a characteristic a goal or anything I wanted to achieve in school or life I sought out people who I knew with would push me towards my goals the people who you spend time with are a reflection of who you are as a person you become who you surround yourself with and as you move forward in life to wherever you may choose whether it's work college or trades be mindful of who it is you you are around sooner or later you'll adopt those same characteristics whether good or bad thank you and once again congratulations I would like to begin by asking the class of 20124 to reflect on their four years of High School freshman

year sophomore year junior year and finally senior year almost every day this year was spent thinking about today and what's after today but this isn't the year of last this is where we decide the beginning of our tomorrow I would like to share a piece of advice from my dad my dad encouraged me to have pride in myself to carry who I am and my differences With Honor we will encounter situations where we may look or talk differently than others but we must have pride in ourselves it is this individuality that makes us unique this strength that has got us here today and where we plan to be tomorrow I know like me there's a lot of graduates here today who have loving parents or family members that have made great sacrifices for them to

be able to stand here today I stand on this stage today proud to call myself a graduate for my parents who are unable to I'm blessed to have a loving family and group of friends that support me relentlessly and to them I am truly thankful it has been a wonderful four years thank you class of [Applause] 2024 as your senior class president it is both a privilege and an honor to stand before you all today graduating together is not just about crossing a Finish Line rather the journey we've shared and the remarkable impacts we've made on one another no matter where our paths may lead it is important to carry the lessons we've learned and the friendships forged into the next chapter of our lives with that I hope to maintain unity and spirit on

me in welcoming our governing board member clerk Natalie vimark to the [Applause] podium hello this is an exciting day and I want you to think back um on how much has happened in six years now I know we're at a high school graduation and you're wondering why I'm saying six years but when you are 18 years old six years is a third of your life so as I speak to you today I'm speaking of these very formative past six years and then I'm going to look ahead and encourage you in the next six years there's a vast difference between the sixth grade version of yourself and the 12th grade version of you your taste in music has changed your hairstyle has probably changed a few times you've probably have different hobbies and your interests are

either improving or they're different and become more advanced and what you now know academically relationally has grown exponentially sometimes you need to take a big step back and look at how far you've come to appreciate app all that you have ha all that has happened in high school graduates in May of 2018 you were just finishing up your time in sixth grade for most of you that meant there was a big transition ahead most of you were leaving elementary school or moving into harder classes at the same Elementary School and and having different privileges you likely were in a class with fellow classmates that you'd been around for six to seven years and the fact that you would be living leaving what you had known in elementary school was both terrifying and probably about 12

months overdue looking back to see how you maneuvered through these changes can help you prepare now for what lies ahead you're about to leave the comfort of what you've known it's likely that this is again slightly terrifying and also about 12 months overdue since you've earn your high school diploma at Cortez you are prepared to take on the choices and the challenges of the 21st century your work and the support of your teachers and administrators has provided the foundation of all that lies ahead so here are some challenges to lean into As you move forward to the next six years keep taking on hard things and don't let yourself become too comfortable you will be exposed to new people as you go into new settings Embrace these relationships and expand your circle of friends in

higher education or the workforce these relationships will have an even greater impact on your success than they have previously finally when you're discouraged remember that the things that things can look different in as little as 24 hours but they can be drastically improved in six years keep your goals ahead of you with the next six years in mind and now to all the friends and family that are here of these graduates this Milestone of high school graduation is significant and it comes full with a very full range of emotions six years ago I was in a an arena like this and I watched my oldest graduate from high school and I just had the biggest smile on my face the entire time it was simply a joyous day however the following day I attended the

celebration of my sixth grader who um had an event where they walked through the halls and the teachers came out and clapped and after watching that I cried uncontrollably at a sixth grade celebration to the point where it was very ugly cry and it was quite embarrassing you just don't know how these emotions are going to affect you but the beauty of embracing the many stages of the journey is that you know there are new and exciting things to celebrate just ahead graduates be kind to your family members who just might have some of these big emotions today or in the next few days they don't really intend to embarrass you they might not mind it but they don't intend to embarrass you with them as a member of the glendle Union High School District

governing board it is my honor to congratulate you for graduating from Cortez High School I and the entire GSD governing board have the brightest hope for your next six years and Beyond Mrs Parsons please join me it is my pleasure as principal of court TZ High School to certify that these students have met the requirements for graduation as set forth by the Glendale Union High School District accordingly I present this class and I respectfully request that you accept these graduates and that you and Mrs madingley confer diplomas upon them this is the fun part as a member of the governing board of the glendel Union High School District and by the authority vested in Me by the Constitution and the laws of the State of Arizona I accept and confirm that the Cortez High School
