[Music] seniors and guests please remain standing for the presentation of colors by apollo high school's naval junior reserve officer training unit under the direction of lieutenant commander william mccammon and master chief windell menega [Applause] [Music] [Applause] whose brush stripes and bright stars [Music] rockets [Music] was [Music] for the land and the hope of god [Music] [Applause] ready please be seated good evening parents friends faculty and graduates welcome to the commencement ceremony for the graduating class of before i begin i would like to say thank you thank you teachers and staff for supporting and guiding us these past four years thank you parents and family members for enduring us our whole lives and a special thank you to my mom and dad for supporting me along the way and i won't say much more because i
know my mom's already crying something i remember from this year was when my econ teacher mr lopez said that he woke up the day of his graduation and wish we could go back to the first day of freshman year and he said we would all feel the same way i didn't believe him because if you know mr lopez it's hard to believe anything he ever says but he was right about something it has been a long 13 years and we may not have had the easiest high school experience but i'm glad to say that our freshman and high school our freshman and senior year were an amazing time spent on campus rather than behind a computer screen even though being able to sit in bed while learning wasn't all that bad all of the things
that we have been through up to this point make us who we are and the best part is we're not done yet we'll continue to experience things and make memories every day that mold us into who we truly are and who we are meant to become so as you go forward in life whether you're heading to a trade school a university the military or simply wherever the wind will take you remember to do so with an open mind and a full heart be ready for what the world throws at you and keep going because contrary to what the world keeps trying to tell you you don't need to have all of the answers right now claim your life and live it the way you want to live it but just remember never let failure get
to your heart and never let success get to your head you're all capable of taking on any obstacle that may lie in your life in any country in the world at any time of the year you have all faced a challenging high school experience that has never happened before and you overcame it and made it worthwhile something that i would like to call unparalleled we were thrown into this thunderstorm of uncertainty at such a young age but we fought their own ways we could have never imagined we are the generations who make a difference because of the experiences and memories we are made up of so i hope you all cherish the small aspects of your past and what is to come i wish you luck in this next chapter of your lives congratulations thank
you all and go rams i would like to introduce the washington high school choir under the direction of mr dabusk for one last time [Music] all right with the horses [Music] all that i see you know [Music] well life is [Music] is [Music] i'll fly away from [Music] oh [Music] our jews last [Music] the forever come together and that's where we'll go [Music] oh [Music] my way [Music] [Applause] hey rams good evening graduating class of 2022. i'm your senior class president andres hernandez laguna i would never believe myself if i were to tell freshman me that i would be in the position i am standing in today the choices one makes in their life can be astronomical to how our lives will be played out today that choice is simple stepping onto the stage and
receiving a well-deserved token for an opportunity to have our dreams become a reality but let's not rush i want to invite you to remember this moment i want you to pause breathe and remember what today looks like what it feels like remember the smiling faces next to you the cute boy on stage your families everything embrace it now i would love to thank everyone who has stood by his sides during these past few difficult years whether that be our family friends pets and especially our staff i would personally love to thank my sisters for helping me when i just didn't know my next step and for my parents i appreciate them even more without further ado the gift our class has left behind is a large beautiful mural it's a mural that anyone can walk
past and see just what washington is about all the sports languages and clubs smash into a giant beautiful piece of art with that being said make sure to enjoy the night go out to eat with your families friends go celebrate but guys thank you all for being a part of my life i love you all so so much and it saddens me that once we leave as graduates today there's a big amount of faces that i won't see again but just know i will never forget our memories together here at washington high school okay i've stretched this speech long enough as i want to stand here as long as possible and have my moment but it has been an absolute honor to be your senior class president this year now for the last time from
me to you have a lovely ramtastic day washington [Applause] i am now honored to introduce two important guests we are fortunate to be supported by a caring district administration and governing board tonight we have with us executive director mrs kim mosquito and our governing board clerk susan mayland [Applause] clerk maylin has lived in the glendale union high school district for more than 30 years she and her husband are parents of two sunny slope high school graduates and as a former sunny slope high school teacher a district coordinator and a principal at apollo high school susan is a strong advocate for public schools she is retired and wants to remain active in an outstanding district by serving on the governing board her term began in 2015. thank you both for being here this evening [Applause] one
of the most important responsibilities of a school is to promote academic education and to insist upon excellence washington high school confers its highest academic honors by designating the top one percent of the graduating class i am pleased to present the three students who have earned the highest academic ranking in the class of 2022. besides graduating with highest distinction they will be speaking on behalf of the senior class i've asked them to stand to be recognized for their accomplishment hassan lookee osuna leyva [Applause] and joining us virtually tonight mark palma thank you students we as a community acknowledge and respect your remarkable achievements thank you for the hard work and dedication you have given to washington high school over these past four years i would now like to present to you hassan loki [Applause] good evening
i hope you guys are having a pleasant day my name is hassan luki and this fall i'll be attending harvard university [Applause] today i am extremely honored to be giving a speech on the behalf of such an accomplished cohort of students as i reminisce about the enjoyable memories i created i get the i get a bittersweet feeling that the experience has passed by however this graduation speech addressed to the washington high school academic advisors my fellow classmates and the parental figures is meant to symbolically encapsulate their lasting implication on me as an individual i like to think that each individual begins their journey with a lack of consciousness a lack of consciousness of the world and ourselves is only through our experiences and our choices are we able to come to a deeper sense of
understanding and self-awareness before i was born my parents made a monumental choice when they immigrated to the united states for the economic prosperity the country presents they left behind the country they considered their home they left behind their culture their primary language and their family members to come to a country where they were considered a stranger i cannot begin to quantify the alienation they must have felt the lack of belonging to a community hence i wanted to take a moment for my parents and all the parents who immigrated to the united states [Applause] like my parents i made numerous monumental choices throughout my four years of high school which created my current reality some of those choices were mistakes rather i'd like to say learning experiences since the word mistake has a negative connotation attached
to it however i continue forward with everything i learned internalizing the experiences and people i met i'm i met along the way i am extremely grateful that i did since i met people with boundless compassion enthusiasm and humility people such as karen danny v selali mark unfortunately he could not be here today but i love you if you're watching this virtually nev who stated that people in switzerland speak swiss and herman and as i once did i now venture out into the world to make choices choices that will create my universe as i leave behind arizona it isn't a fair world to those i know because i have internalized them it is a testament to how they have influenced me to look for harvard's motto in life truth thank you guys for having me as
your speaker today [Applause] for those who don't know me my name is leslie osuna and i want to start off by congratulating every single one of you sitting in these seats and thanking those who are here supporting these graduates after graduation i plan on majoring in criminal psychology and i want to thank my law enforcement teacher mr smith for being a big part of the reason i chose that particular major it is [Music] so as we've all come to realize for the first time in our lives our future isn't planned out for us we've all been on the same road up to this point and now we get to choose our own path the societal pressure of deciding what's next is shared by a saw but we can't allow this pressure to make us feel
as if we aren't enough sometimes we just have to fig we've all been on the same road up to this point but now we get to decide what we're now we get to choose our own path the societal pressure of deciding what's next is shared by us all but we can't allow this pressure to make us feel as if we aren't enough sometimes we just have to figure it out as we go there's no universal way to measure success because success is different for every individual i want to leave you with a quote by marie curie life is not easy for any of us but what of that we must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves we must believe that we are gifted for something and that this thing must be attained gracias
[Applause] hello and welcome class of 2022. in case you don't know my name is mark and i'm lucky enough to be in the top 1 of our class for this year before i say anything else i want to give a warm thank you to all staff and administrators that have been with us these past four years i would also like to extend an extra warm thank you to all the fantastic teachers i've had as well even though i could talk about almost any of these teachers and have nothing but praise to say i think we would be here all day if i did so instead i want to take this moment to single out one in particular to my ap gov and ap world history teacher mr darrow thank you for always pushing your students
to not only be better scholars but better human beings as well your class has taught me and all of your other students so much whether that's cramming for your tests the prior night and sometimes even the period right before or whether it's from your entertaining stories your classes cemented itself in the forefront of my and all of your other students high school experience not only for teaching us about history and government but for preparing us for what is next to come you have my sincerest gratitude thank you again to my fellow students from our very first step onto campus we have awaited graduation day it's what we have all been working for these past four years through thick and thin yet bittersweetness lingers over us today is the last day we will all be together
as the sun sets we say our very last goodbyes not only to each other but to our childhoods as well we venture now into the dark into our future this future is daunting it's one that's unknown and uncertain at times it's overwhelming continue to push forward just as you have done these past four years though and i'm certain that we will overcome any obstacle just as we have conquered the halls of high school we will soon conquer what is yet to come one day at a time and before you know it the future that we are so scared of today will become the past of tomorrow we don't enter this future alone either you'll forever carry parts of each other with us as we journey into this dark memories and friendships that help to shape
who we are today keep these fragments with you as they remind you of who you are but arguably more important who you're meant to be during these four years i have made friendships and bonds that i will truly never forget to each of these friendships big or small thank you for making me who i am today i owe it to you thank you all for listening it's been my honor to speak here today and i will truly miss you all very much thank you again [Applause] students who are academically ranked in the next two to three percent are honored today as graduates of high distinction please acknowledge the scholastic achievements of the following students as they stand in our top two percent daniela valdovinos hermann mendoza bustos naftali garcia lopez and kiara smith in our
