001Happy Asian American Pacific Islanders Heritage Month. For me and my family, best effort is not optional. Neither was humidity. Being humble is important, and that's what I bring to my work every single day. When my grandmother immigrated here, education in our culture in the past for women was not very prominent. So, it was imperative to my mother and her especially that I was well educated. So, they actually named me after the word knowledge in Hindi. Because of that, it's been very, very important to me that no matter what I do, education is always at the forefront of my actions. As an immigrant, I realized that understanding systems is very important. And that's why I started out as a college and career counselor to help students understand the system and structures to set them up to be successful in life. Now, as I do in the policy work and the governance work, I look at not whether a system work, but I asked, "Does the system serve everyone?" I hope for everyone in MCPS to always feel included. Wherever you are and however you look, I want you to know that MCPS is here for you.
