I do have a motion for two adjustments to the agenda. an additional nomination for

Chanel Ravisi and an additional executive session for a student matter. Can I get a second on that adjustment? >> Second, >> Wes. Any discussion? >> Can I add a third? >> Yes. Um, and a third agenda adjustment, which is a pretty simple one, but um, we had a resignation of Mrs. Chaplain, the uh school counselor at Alfred. So, that is not in the um staff update. So, I just we'll we'll update that to have Jackie Chaplain um resignation added. >> All right. Thank you. Any further discussion? All in favor? We will make those adjustments. Thank you. Consent agenda. Do I have a motion to accept the consent agenda? Wes Beth. Any discussion on the consent agenda? All in favor? Public comment. Do we have any public comment this evening? Uh board chair report. I do

have a few things to share with you tonight. So, a reminder of adult ed graduation. That's next Tuesday night, the 16th at 6 pm right next door in the gym. Um, our final meeting of fiscal year 26 is June 24th at 6 PM. As always, if you can't make it, please let me know. Um, I did want to let you all know that I had the pleasure last week, the night before graduation at senior awards night, of presenting the schoolboard scholarship. So, I wanted to let you know that the two um RSU 57 board of directors scholarships were awarded to Cali Wyn and Debbie Briett and then the board of directors student representative scholarship was awarded to Walker Vivian. So, that was exciting last week. Um, for those of you that were not able to

attend graduation, I highly recommend that you go back and watch the video, especially at the 30 minute mark when Walker gives um a an amazing speech to finish out the year. So, he started our year with a great speech at the opening day um with staff and then wrap things up with a great speech at um graduation. Congratulations to Beth and Megan on reelection to the school board. So, that is exciting. Um, and finally, excuse me. Finally, I wanted to say thank you to Zoe. This will be her last meeting with us. Her schedule is not allowing for her to continue as a student rep. Um, but you will be missed. It has been great having you on the board. We wish you all the best of luck next year. Keep in touch. Keep us

updated on, you know, the theater stuff that's going on. But thank you, Zoe. You've been great. >> That's all I have. So, I'll turn it over to Dr. Marquee for the superintendent's report. We always start with kids. But before I pass it off to the the two of them, um, make sure you're applying for board scholarships and all scholarships next year, even though you're no longer the rep, we want you to do that. Okay. So, let's have you uh do your student report. All right. Uh good evening everyone. I'd just like to uh start by uh thanking the board for issuing me the uh student representative scholarship. Uh there are numerous um programs and uh opportunities that will allow me to uh make good use of that money to further my educational possibilities and opportunities.

So I want to offer a uh deep and sincere thank you for that scholarship. Uh so with the school year near its conclusion, there will be end of year celebrations, field trips, field days, special events, and much more happening throughout the district. Field days will be occurring for each elementary school during the final two weeks of the school year. Alfred Elementary is having their annual variety show on the 12th of June, and the show starts at 9:15 a.m. just after the beginning of the school day. Uh the school also has their upcoming egg drop contest on the 16th and 17th of this month. Uh students are currently finishing up their structure for the egg to be in while it's dropped from the school's roof. Uh students have been working on this project in partnerships during

their art classes and will count it as a success if their egg survives the drop in their custommade design. Fifth grade students at the school will be having a special day tomorrow. They'll spend the school day at the bowling alley and will have their special fifth grade celebration ceremony at 600 p. p.m. in the gym. On June 3rd, Alfred shared their plans to change to a multi-age classroom structure with families, and they hosted informational sessions about these changes. On the 8th and 9th of June, Lion Elementary will hold a book swapping event on June 12th during their field day. And Lion held a musical showcase earlier today. The event was for students from preK through 4th grade and began at 9:30 a.m. this morning. The line PTC sold yearbooks with May 29th marked as the

final day to get orders in. And the school is encouraging families to locate and turn in all of their school library books before the year concludes. Chappley Memorial School is ending the year with a core theme centered around achieving goals. Fifth grade students at the school had an opportunity to meet the middle school principal on the 26th of May and they visited the middle school on June 8th to take a tour and explore their new building. On June 2nd, they had fun bowling at Bolarama with their fourth grade peers and tomorrow they will have their fifth grade celebration night. Additionally, they will go on a June 12th field trip to the Sanford Historical Society. Shappley had their egg drop on the 27th of May and they hosted a showcase of learning on June 3rd where

families were able to see what students across the building have been working on throughout this year. Waterborough Elementary has had many field trips in the last couple of weeks. Fifth grade student helpers visited Atlantic Heights Retirement Home on the 28th of May. All fifth graders went to the bowling alley on the 9th of June and kindergarteners will be visiting Smiling Hill Farm on June 11th. Waterboro's June 17th fuel day will be Rain or Shine and fifth graders will be leading the stations for all of their younger peers. A local author and illustrator recently visited the school and discussed his work with students and his visit sparked a wave of drawing, illustrating, and writing enthusiasm across the entire building. During June, students at Waterboro are reviewing all of the monthly character traits they have learned this

year by focusing on all of them during this final month. The PTO is holding a costume themed family dance on the 12th of June. And tomorrow at 6 PM there will be anformational night for incoming kindergarten families. And the PTO is holding their last movie night of the school year the following evening. Lyman Elementary recognized 26 students as the final model mustangs of the month for the school year recently. And uh weight bus transportation for the district concluded on Wednesday, June 3rd. That concludes the first half of our report report and I'll turn it over to Zoe for the second half. Thank you. >> Before I finish off the final report that I will be talking in, I did just want to thank everyone for this amazing opportunity that I've been given. I really have

learned a lot and I really appreciate that I was given the opportunity. So for the second half starting with Massipik Middle School they held their first art show in May and this art show was there were many people awarded best in show for each grade level. These were voted on by the community. Many students recently competed in the University of Maine and Orino for a Maine National History Day. students competed against two two dozen other entries for the junior junior group exhibit category and two participating groups took home second place in the labor history award on May 30th. Eighth graders in band and chorus attended Funtown Funtown for a music festival. Sixth and eighth grader students had field trips during the second week of June, while seventh graders um are engaging in a in their

annual hike on the 16th. On the on June 17th, um the eighth graders will have a barbecue for lunch and they will have a 2-hour celebration dance at 6. The student council visited a local cemetery and placed American flags on the graves of military of military service members for Memorial Day. um and many students honored um and decorated graves of their own relatives. The last edition of the students student made spilled ink newspaper was published. It features many much artwork, historical events and recent school events and a lot more. Guest speakers from fiber materials incorporated came to MMS to speak at each middle to each middle school grade. They looked into engineering work putting and they put um theoretical classroom concepts into practice and showed them what it looked like in the real world. They

also talked about modern and futuristic technology, engineering, space exploration and careers in the field. Their STEM curriculum, eighth grade students designed and made small powered cars, electric bands. Eighth grade, I mean seventh grade classrooms built small cars with strict with some constraints. They use these robots to erase and the sixth graders have been writing code to make their um robotic creations built using Lego pieces. In the indiciplinary studies class, sixth graders have been um have been raising eastern brook trout. These fish were welcomed to the classroom in February and they've been recording data and studying the fish in their cycles. They saw three of the six cycles before releasing those fish into a river. The sixth grade students also visited Chuck the Chuck the whale, an inflatable whale based on a real humpback. These students

learned about whales with this and learned about animal adoption, threats to marine life, and much more. 9th 9th, 10th, and 11th graders at Masterc High School will have their underassment awards assemblies tomorrow on June 11th as um as well as class elections. Candidates will give their speeches and they've been campaigning, placing posters all around the school. I don't know if you've been in the school lately, but they're all over the place. I've never seen so much campaigning. Um, upper classman's uh, underassmen have had their final their finals beginning on the 12th and will run until the following Wednesday. Senior week at MHS began on the 1st of June. They had their class prank, senior sendoff, pep rally, and they participated in games like musical chairs, are you smarter than a fifth grader, balloon races, and

a few other things. They heard they also heard um some parting words from a few teachers and they were walked and they were able to walk through a tunnel of staff in the gym. Later that day, they then took their class trip to Hilltop Fun Center where they did things like go-kart and mini golf in an arcade. Seniors enjoyed a breakfast Tuesday morning and had um graduation marching practice. On the third, seniors dressed in their caps and gowns and participated in their final lap around the high school. um as well as walking through the middle school and all the elementary schools that they attended. Um that evening, the senior award night occurred. Uh they were given awards, scholarships, and and graduation cords. The event began at 7 at 7:00 p.m. and ended with an ice

cream social. On the 4th of June at 7, the class of 2026 graduated at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland. The buses loaded up at the high school and departed at 4 and then afterwards they attended project graduation at Joseph at St. Joseph Joseph's College after the ceremony. Um those those students arrived at 4:30 the following morning. Um our our seniors have bid farewell the and the and have started their own paths out of high school. But for everyone else, we're counting down the days the final to the final school day of on Thursday, June 18th. There are still lots of activities, field trips, final celebrations, and lots going around until the school year comes to a close. And that'll conclude our report. >> Thank you very much, Zoe and Walker as always. Um yeah,

highlight for me last week was definitely class night and graduation. Want to thank the high school for um really organizing those events uh to celebrate our students and I'd like to thank all the board members that were able to attend. Everyone has busy schedules, but those uh board members that were able to attend either or both nights, um want to draw attention because um I'm not sure how how I'll have opportunities to do this down the road with different meetings and such. I want to draw attention to Shane O'Hara. I had provided you an update that Shane um will be resigning his position once he finalizes a new position that helps him balance. And I I always um think about when someone enters a position and when they leave a position and do they leave

the position in a better place than they found it. And um I think recently I I didn't use those exact words when I talked about Mr. thorough, but I believe he moved our school high school into a better place. And over the past several years, you've heard me talk about Shane, and I believe Shane has definitely left our school district or will be leaving our school district in a vastly better place than uh the one in which he found with respect to technology. So, he's a huge shoes to to fill, but he's still going to be a community member and he still has Massabzac and RSU 57 near and dear to his heart, but um I I really am sad to see Shane leave, but very very happy for him. Um couple highlights, additional highlights

for me. Uh last week on the 3D I was able to go out to the Chappley showcase of learning and seeing all the work that our our teachers at Chappley and our students at Chappley are are completing. So that was really a a nice experience to see the progression of of learning that they exhibited. Also I had the good fortune of going to Mr. Beiel's class at the middle school. teaches social studies and um the whole concept um really career exploration and uh I was able to meet with students as though they were applying for jobs and they had resumeums and did research and then uh had to get grilled. Um no different than what we do when we're trying to hire people here. So, it was nice to see them uh be polished and

really work on things like good eye contact, firm handshake, um leaning into the questions, and uh and then providing some feedback if there were errors in in their submissions or really u highlights within their submissions. So, I want to thank Mr. Beal for inviting me in. Um this week I um on Monday night I uh attended a parent meeting over at Alfred. Um the parent meeting was really talking about what the future holds for Alfred. Um it's not directly aligned with the work that we'll be doing this summer in our workshop around balancing school enrollment, but the reality of enrollment declines there um had to be front and center. So um Mrs. Puland met with um about 12 people. I think it was representing seven families and then there was um an assortment of um

families on Tuesday night as well. Um when we look at enrollment, the class size issues really do matter. So we are implementing as shared earlier um the multi-age concept so that there are not um significant fluctuations in student enrollment year-to-year that one creates some um some challenges with staff knowing not knowing what they're going to teach year to year or classes that are too small. uh we have had a significant decline um in Alfred in particular with births over the last um several years. We have the birth data for all six towns over the last 24 years and it's quite noticeable and uh as a result we had to really try to figure out how to best balance that. Um I think parents were receptive to it. there were some unknowns. um learning curve. When

we did it last year at at Shappley, we did it far earlier in the year and um I I think if uh Miss Puland had to do it uh again, she would be communicating a little earlier in the process. um but has been working for the last three or four months with her staff um really beginning in earnest in March about the changes um that allow us to have a more effective program and uh support the learning needs of all of our students. Um June 18th will be our final day with students and staff. As a reminder, um we're not doing at district level because folks will be teaching in the morning. We'll have an early release or a half day release and then um each location throughout our district will be celebrating the end

of the year and um celebrating those individuals that are retiring and those individuals that are departing. Um the district provides um a token of appreciation to our retirees. So they um we started this last year where they receive a clock related to our district. There are others that are not retiring but may have been here for a long time and had a significant impact. Um their work locations will celebrate them differently. But the district is really looking at the retirees because we have so many people that are coming and going. Um we wouldn't be doing clocks for people and those sorts of things. So it's really about those who are retiring. So that's uh what's going to happen on the 18th. And adult ed on the 16th is always a a wonderful event. Uh I

know many of you have attended that on an annual basis. I would encourage you if you're able to to attend our adult ed graduation. I think the current number of graduates is 12, but we're looking at potentially I think around 16 when all is said and done and uh getting those folks across the finish line. And uh it's always near and dear to my heart personally um being the the son of a of a woman who um was unable to finish high school traditionally. And uh so my mom finished her sophomore year and then got into having a lot of babies year after year after year. And then ultimately uh um 13 years after her scheduled graduation date, 14 years after her scheduled graduation date, she actually marched with uh graduating seniors, which would have

which is not allowed nowadays. But so I always appreciate that graduation more than any um because I think many of those individuals go through such transformational experiences and um and we've hired a few folks that have gone through adult debt over the past couple years. That concludes my report this evening. >> You any questions for Dr. Marquee? >> Oh, I also want to say thanks to everyone that got out to vote. Um, I think voting turnout throughout the entire state of Maine was like at an all-time high. Um, and that was for a variety of reasons. And, um, we talked about it in finance and I've talked about it with um, uh, friend superintendents throughout the day. when when there are big items on a on a ballot, it ultimately in most cases increases the

likelihood of support because it's getting people that really do um have interest in our schools to come out. Sometimes when there's not a lot of hot button topics, folks don't necessarily come out at the same level, but the folks that are upset with budgets typically still come out. So that was a a significant uh uh driver I believe in this year's and um and I think that um Mark shared it during finance. The numbers really were quite striking. >> Uh and I would like to say one final time, thank you to the finance committee and to Colin Walsh for the tremendous job in preparing a budget that um supports the needs of our students and our taxpayers moving forward. Now I'm finished. >> Thank you. >> Standing committees policy Beth. >> Um we met last

week on June 3rd to review um proposed revisions to policy JJ. um that came already in front of the board for first read, but we then got um some additional guidance from the main department of education um regarding implementation of this new law that they have. Uh so specifically the department um indicated that the policy language needs to explicitly needs to include um Wi-Fi enabled devices and we had written in our policy only personally owned electronic devices um and so we needed to add that Wi-Fi enabled devices portion of that. So that kind of brought up the topic and the reason that we had to meet because um that would then include students and staff um personal uh laptops. So it's we talked to Shane, we talked to, you know, kind of throughout the committee

how many students are bringing their own laptops. So that came up, we discussed it. Um, ultimately it's the law. Um, so we did have, uh, Caitlyn send that out ahead of time so that you guys don't see it for a second read at the next meeting. We wanted everybody to be able to read it first. Um, so moving forward, students will not be able to bring their own devices. Uh we are fortunate where we already give students laptops and iPads to use. So we're in better shape than some other districts. Um but we wanted we had to meet about it and we wanted everybody to to see it and read it before it comes for a second read at the next meeting. >> Thank you. Any questions for Beth? >> Uh next up, finance. Bless.

>> Good evening. Uh we met this evening at 5:00 prior to the board meeting. Um we uh reviewed the referendum results. Um and the budget validation uh as well as SRRF uh support and validation. Um Director Walsh will go into more detail, I'm sure, on all of those things. Also, we reviewed lease purchase approvals for uh fiscal year 2627. Uh again, those will be coming before the board for board approval. Um also, we looked at local tax assessment, warrants, and installment schedules for fiscal year 26 and 27. We had a transportation update. uh schedules are getting um set for the summer. Main state police uh annual inspection in July will be taking place. Instead of one day, it'll be two days this year. By statute, all buses are inspected. It's a very thorough uh process.

Um also uh driver hiring is being pursued and uh transportation and uh director Walsh being uh more and more creative. And also uh Director Colin Walsh acknowledged transportation for their great efforts over this past school year and their planning for the future. Um there is the potential for a bus safety day being pursued uh in the next uh uh school year. Um that is the report uh for tonight. If you have any questions, I'd be more than willing to answer. Our next meeting is August 25th at 6 PM. >> Any questions for Wes? >> Next up, HR Anastasia. We have not met and we will not meet again in June. Our meeting next week is canceled as we are done for the year. >> Perfect. Any questions for Anastasia? >> Before we move on to

old business, I do have a correction. Um I stated that we had a quorum with 12 directors present. There are only 11 of us here. So um just for the record, there's only 11. >> We have quorums. >> We have a quorum still, but I don't know how I miscounted. Um, but I just wanted to correct that before we moved on. Old business, we have none. New business. First item up for new business. We have two nominations this evening. Uh, Ma Matthew Parody, a special education teacher, functional life skills at Massabisc Middle School. And Chanel Ravisi, social services substance abuse counselor at Massabisc High School. Do I have a motion to approve those? Anastasia >> and and also middle school. He she oversees middle school. So, >> Mass High School and Massic Middle School. >>

So, I have a motion. Did somebody second? Jen. Any discussion? All in favor? Carries. Thank you. Next up, approval of the computation and declaration of referendum votes of June 9th, 2026 for the fiscal year 2026 2027 district budget and the validation referendum process. Mr. Walsh. >> Good evening. You have a variety of items tonight. We're going to go one by one. Um they were included in your agenda in the packet. You also have an 8 and a half by 11 um handout which has page numbers in the bottom right. I will be going through those as well. For this agenda item, I'm going to refer you to on your table you have an 8 and a half by 14 um handout of the budget referendum results um for the vote yesterday. I'm just going to

go quickly through these. Um, this gives you an historical trend analysis on the first page of the percentage of yes votes and no votes since July of 2020 through the vote yesterday in June of 2026. Overall, the budget was approved with a 68% approval rate and 32% no. And you can see the breakout town by town. On the bottom half of that page, you can see the number of votes in each year in which the budget was voted. So, a very high vote this year with 5464 total votes amongst the six communities um which resulted in that 68% approval of the budget. Um you can see years in which there's between 1500 and 2000 typically. um in July of 2020 was a high voting number of 4384. So it was certainly a very very well

attended um election this year on multiple fronts in regards to the school vote. On the next page um you see the actual um declaration of votes which is the legal document in which you have a motion in your packet. The motion that you're making um to vote on is the adoption and certification and declaration of the votes as provided by the town clerks. These votes are received by myself and the superintendent by the town clerks in each of the six municipalities. We then verify and crossverify those numbers based upon actual certifications from the town clerks to arrive at this form. This form is what the agenda item is is for you to read from your packet. Um the motion would be on page one of the 8 1/2 by 11 in that motion in which

you're um declaring and voting to accept the computation declaration of votes and to um make a board motion and vote on that. And you're specifically referring to this page where there's 3740 yes votes and 1724 no votes. That is that agenda item and you'd be looking for a motion, Madam Chair. Uh, do we have a motion to accept the computation and declar declaration of referendum votes? >> Wes Wes and Anastasia. Is there any discussion? All in favor? Those are accepted. Next up, >> the next item on the agenda, I'm going to refer to the larger piece of paper that you have on your table this evening. On the top half of that page are the same numbers that we just saw on the school budget vote. So I am going to be looking specifically at

the middle of this page. The middle of this page um talks about the school revolving renovation vote numbers. You can see on this portion there were 3,00 um 900 there were 3,96 yes votes. There were 1563 no votes to accept um that um that vote on the school revolving renovation for the structural and roof improvements at Alfred. In that analysis, you see the number of votes in June of 23 and 22 on other school revolving renovation projects and in the far right of that middle section, the percentage of yes and no votes. Um so 71.4% 4% of the voters yesterday approved moving ahead with this revolving renovation. And you'll recall that the state pays a portion of this and the remaining portion that the school district will have to pay is at 0% interest over

a 10-year period. Um so very favorable results on that. That allows um with your approval and the certification of those votes um for us to start moving forward with that project. on the other piece of paper um that you had which was the 8 and a half by 14. If you go to the last page of that you see the legal document which says regional school unit 57 computation declaration of votes. That is the legal document that if you approve this tonight, you will then be signing and certifying to when the board meeting is over tonight when you sign all the other legal documents for the evening. So I would um ask for a motion from the board to accept certify. >> Yes. Do I have a motion to approve the computation and declaration of

votes for June 9th for the school revolving renovation fund? Wes Anastasia. Is there any discussion? All in favor? That carries. Next. >> I'm going to be referring for the rest of the agenda items on the 8 and 1 half by 11 um piece of paper that is in your packet. We're going to be going to page two and three for the next agenda item. It is typical for the school district to enter into lease purchase agreements. Um lease purchase agreements are very similar to a loan in which the school district borrows money and repays that over a specific time period for specific purchases. In our school district, there are three traditional things that we borrow money for. They are technology equipment, they are transportation vehicles and photocopers. This agenda item is specifically for technology equipment

up to $490,000 and associated software. Um, by making these motions for this and the next two items, you're authorizing the superintendent and myself to move forward to enter into lease agreements and to negotiate those lease agreements over the upcoming fiscal year starting July 1st. So, um, I would ask the board to consider making a motion to accept this at the top of page two. I move that the resolution entitled resolution to authorize lease purchase of technology equipment in the principal amount of 490,000 be adopted in form presented to this meeting and that a copy of said resolution be filed with the minutes of this meeting >> Jen and Judith. So we have a motion and a second. Is there any discussion? All in favor? That carries. The next item is very similar. This is on

page four and five of your handout. This is a motion to enter into lease purchase agreement under those same terms and conditions that we just described for school new school buses, transportation vehicles and related accessories and equipment. This is included as it went through finance committee. It is typically new school buses. This year for 2026 27 uh finance committee is and as part of the budget we approved moving forward with three new school buses instead of four and start replacing some bands um that are in need of replacement so that we're not increasing this dollar amount from last year. We're staying with the same dollar amount but it's allowing us to um really continue our replacement cycle on our transportation vehicles. So I would ask the board to consider a motion for this. >> I

move that the resolution entitled the resolution to authorize lease purchase of new school buses, transportation vehicles, and associated equipment in the principal amount of $650,000 be adopted form presented to this meeting and that a copy of said resolution be filed with the minutes of this meeting. >> Second. >> Jen made the motion. Judith second. Any discussion? All those in favor? That carries. >> The next agenda item is the third and final of the lease purchase agreements for photocopier equipment and related accessories and software for up to $100,000. Again, um this is traditional for the district as it is with technology equipment or transportation vehicles for us to um borrow money to continue our replacement cycle on photocopers. I move that the resolution entitled resolution to authorize lease purchase of photocopier equipment in the principal amount

of $100,000 be adopted in form presented to this meeting and that a copy of said resolution be filed with the minutes of this meeting. >> Second >> Jen and Judith. Is there any discussion? All those in favor that carries. The next item is on page eight of your handout in regards to the motion to approve the assessment warrants and installment schedules. Now that the school board has approved the results of the voters of the six communities and the vote of the voters of the six communities was to approve the budget um for the 2627 school year. The next step in the legal process is for the school board to um assess taxes in accordance with the budget that was approved and also to approve the installment schedules to submit to the treasures of each of

the six communities for monthly payments um due on or before the 20th of each month for the next fiscal year of July 1st of 26 through June 30 of 27. In addition, um, if the board approves this, you will then be signing legal documents at the end and conclusion of tonight's meeting to provide those legal documents to the town clerks, the selectmen, and to the treasurer of each of the six communities. The amounts that are in these installments um, schedules and in the assessment of taxes are also the same amounts and have not changed from anything that is published on the website. was part of the budget mailer and was also in accordance with the vote of the voters of the six communities. So, I'd be looking for a motion that is indicated on page

eight of the handout. I move that the warrant for assessment of tax and the assessment schedule and notice of installments of tax for each member municipality prepared by the treasurer for fiscal year July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027 be approved and be issued in form presented to this meeting and that the treasurer be authorized and directed to deliver to each member municipality its warrant for assessment of tax and its assessment schedule and notice of installments of tax. >> Second. Oh, I think Anastasia Beach Judith be quicker. Any discussion? All in favor? That carries. Agenda item nine. Agenda item nine. You have certified the votes and results of voting from the citizens of the six communities for the school revolving renovation fund project that is associated with Alfred Elementary School structural roof improvements. The vote

was an affirmative vote by the citizens of those six communities and the board has certified those results. As a result, the school board now needs to make a motion to authorize the revolving renovation fund financing portion of this. As I described before, the state um forgives and pays a certain percentage of this in amounts that you have listed here of $475,470 and the remaining amount of $685,61 will be paid by the school district over 10 years at 0% interest. So, I would ask the board to consider the motion that is at the top of page nine to authorize the financing of the school revolving renovation funding that the voters approved. I move that the U vote entitled vote for authorization of 1,160,531 school revolving renovation fund financing be approved in the form presented to this

meeting and that the secretary file an attested copy of said vote with the minutes of this meeting. Is >> that Jen? So Mark and Jed, any discussion? All in favor? Carries. >> The next agenda item is expenditure of funds from the capital reserve fund. These are the next two agenda items. The finance committee has had extensive conversation and discussion in its capital planning of projects that should be done and need to be done and has prioritized those projects. And these two projects that are coming in this agenda item and the next are a result of that deliberation and extensive research. This one that's before you and agenda item number 10 is the authorization to spend up to $120,000 from the capital reserve fund with a twothirds majority vote of the school board and to utilize

that for lighting improvement upgrades at the middle school. Just to tell you briefly what the story is with that is that the middle school lighting system similar and you've heard this story before about the middle school does not have replacement parts for certain ballast and other control systems within its lighting system. As a result, we need to make renovations to that equipment in that school because if something fails in the current control system that runs those ballast and lights, we would be in the dark literally. So, um, this originally when we started planning this was up around the 200 to $225,000 range. We did a lot of testing over the winter and over February and April break. Worked with an electrical engineer um, as well as our electricians and the engineer was able to design

some differently and bring that cost down to where this motion is tonight for up to $120,000. So, that is what I'm asking the board to consider this evening. And this is on page 10 of the hear. >> Yep. >> I move that the vote entitled vote to authorize expenditure of capital reserve funds for lighting improvements at Massabesc Middle School be adopted in form presented to this meeting and that the secretary file an attested copy of said vote with the minutes of this meeting. Second. >> Uh Judith made the motion. Jen seconded. Any discussion? >> All in favor? >> That carries. Next. >> The next agenda item is agenda item number 11. This is an expenditure from the capital reserve fund for up to $80,000 for structural improvements to the walkway at the east building. Um

that again has been identified by the finance committee and its capital planning as a top priority. Um, we've done a lot of research on this project and we believe that this would be the maximum amount that we would need in order to rip out the existing redesign that in accordance with the engineer that we had design it and that would all meet handicap accessibility and also increase efficiency and functionality as well as safety of that walkway. So that's what I'm bringing forward and is also the unanimous um consent of the finance committee as well >> that the vote entitled vote to authorize expenditure of capital fungee for walkway improvements at Mass Basic East building be adopted in form presented to this meeting and that the secretary file an attested copy of said vote with the

minutes of this needed. >> Judith and Jen. >> Oh, Megan. Sorry. >> Sorry. I'm sorry. >> You sounded alike. Um, any discussion? >> All in favor? >> Finally. >> Thank you all very much. >> Thank you, Colin. Uh, next up is the election of the delegate and alternate delegate for the MSBA annual delegate assembly which is this October. This is a routine um item that we act on every year around this time. Anastasia served as our delegate for the last several years. So, I'm going to let her explain how it works and the timing and everything and then we can um we can make our decision. The delegate hearing is usually about anywhere from two to four hours. It's on a Saturday morning. It's usually the Saturday before the conference. It is via Zoom, so

you're not traveling to Augusta. Um, you review delegate information, which is us usually things they're going to bring up to legislature. Um, prior to that, you make changes, you vote on it, it goes to legislature. Um the time commitment is just that Saturday. It used to be during the conference which was not very fun because you missed out on sessions. So with us complaining, they moved it to Saturdays. Um yeah, that's about it. >> Uh do we have a nomination for a delegate? >> I make a motion to nominate Anastasia if she's interested. >> Second. Anastasia, are you interested in serving again? So, we do have a nomination. Uh, and a second. Uh, any other nominations for the delegate? All in favor of Anastasia again. How about an alternate? Any nominations for an alternate? Yes.

Say something. >> The alternate attends that zoom with the delegate. The alternate will take if the delegate is unable to attend bearing some kind of issue. >> Okay. >> But the alternate does not really have a voice during that meeting. >> Okay. >> All right. Uh nomination for an alternate. I nominate for an alternate to the um what is it? >> The delegate >> miss annual delegate assembly alternate delegate. >> Yep. Elizabeth Day >> second October 29th and 30th >> the conference is October 29th and 30th. So the delegate hearing should be that follow previous Saturday the 25th 4th >> but I haven't seen anything regarding that delegate convers yet >> do you accept that nomination? Do we have any other nominations for an alternate? All those in favor? Thank you both for being willing.

All right, next up, uh, we have a culture club field trip to New York City. This is going to be next March because it's overnight and out of state. It needs schoolboard approval. Looks like they are heading out on the morning of March 12th, getting back on March 15th. Um, all of the information is in your backup. So, do we have a motion to approve that field trip? >> Wes Mark. Any discussion? Any questions? All in favor? >> I have a question. >> Oh, question. >> I was looking at the agenda of what they're doing. Mhm. >> I see that there's National Museum of Natural History, Rockefeller Center, um, Harbor Cafe, the Intrepid, Metropolitan Museum of Art. >> Why are they not doing like a the 911 memorial? Because that is a good thing that

these students should see. It's just not on the the agenda. I mean, it's definitely a good suggestion. Yeah, >> maybe on the next one. Go ahead. >> I think this is probably a skeleton more than anything at this point. So, um I don't know that to be true, but I would think that we're talking a year out and there might be some adjustments. So, if that's something I think that Mr. Thurlo could could ask that question um to the advisor. The challenge I think sometimes when you go to these places, if you ever gone to a major city anywhere in the world and you tell people that you visited that city, they're going to name off five places that you should have gone. And that's the hard part with these. There's just So, Mr. Thurlo,

do you mind checking in and then I >> Yeah. Go ahead. Is that all right? >> Yeah, that's fine. I mean, >> uh so as Dr. Marque was saying, we have to identify some major uh I'll say venues that we plan to visit when we have these particular culture club trips. Specifically, these are ones that we can guarantee that we can put on our agenda for now. as we get closer to uh spring of 2027 um and Mrs. Penny and Mrs. Carol will be going over this, we'll see what's actually available in New York City at that time. There are renovations that are happening in various uh venues and uh sites around the city that although we would love to go to right now for instance um we can put Statue of Liberty on that

list and it may not be available for us. So, these are the ones that we can get, we know we can go to, we know we can get tickets, whether they be free or reduced cost. And so, that can be part of the backup that you have. Um, as Dr. Marqueis said, New York City, uh, vibrant culture, there's a lot of things that we plan to do in those three and a half days that aren't yet on the agenda because we don't know if they're available yet. >> Thank you. Uh, so we have a motion in a second. Any other discussion, Judith? Um I might also suggest for um Mr. Thurlo to mention with regards to history, Ellis Island is a wonderful place to go. >> And this is the culture club's first like domestic

trip in a long time. So um and we will see more of these coming up in the years because they're going to be going international and then domestic and kind of going back and forth. So they'll have an opportunity squeezing it into these couple days. That's a lot for a couple days. So and we'll um you know we can touch base with them next winter and see what their finalized agenda is and and go from there. Any further discussion? All in favor of approving that field trip? That is unanimous. Thank you. Next up, review of the 2627 school board meeting calendar. So, Dr. Marquee and I put this together last week. We had we sat with the school calendar and blank calendar and the meeting schedule. Um, and there is some interesting things coming up

in this next school year to try and get all of our meetings in. So, to go over this, um, we'll start off, like I mentioned at the last meeting with our July 22nd board meeting and a board workshop. August 12th will be our administrator board team building here at 5:30 and the board meeting will be at 7. And then we're going to start trying to keep our school board meetings on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month. We run into October, November, December with holidays and the school board uh the MSMA conference. So in October, we bumped the schoolboard meetings to the 1st and third Wednesday. So to allow people to go to the MSMA conference the end of October. November the 11th is the second Wednesday. That's a holiday. And then you have

Thanksgiving week. So again, we bump the schoolboard meetings to the first and third Wednesday. And then in December, same thing. Because of that, those three months, policy got moved to Tuesday night, which you'll see on the committee meeting schedule. You'll see those three dates highlighted. Same thing in November and December with HR getting bumped over to Tuesday night. It was the best way to keep a somewhat consistent schedule, still get all of our meetings in, and not run into big gaps between schoolboard meetings, which often necessitate a special meeting or an additional meeting or some rearranging. From there on, things are back to normal. You're on the second and fourth Wednesday for uh board meetings, first Wednesday for policy, third Wednesday for HR and finance meeting uh every week on Tuesday. The last thing that

I wanted to bring to your attention is next year um the second week of June. Clear your schedules because the vote is on Tuesday. We'll have a finance meeting Wednesday followed by a board meeting Wednesday followed by senior awards night Wednesday followed by graduation Thursday. It's all falling in that same week. So tentative plan right now is for finance to meet at 5 like they did this evening. The board to meet at 5:30 so that we can wrap up to go to the high school for seven for senior awards night. That's where it all lays out. I think we might have omitted unintentionally June 23rd. >> Oh, you're right. I think it got bumped out. And then a June 23rd meeting. We'll throw that on there. June 23rd would be the final meeting of the

year. >> It's on the second page. >> The June 23rd one is >> the graduation and the It's just kind of all in like one line. >> Oh, see what it did. >> Oh, okay. Yeah, >> we'll reformat it and clean it up. We got to get it back onto one page, but it was tough. >> I don't know if I had asked this before, but how come the graduation seems so much later than like it normally is? >> Um, it relates to state statute that says you cannot finish school um for all students. You can't finish graduate. You can't have graduation more than five days um early of the end for all kids when you develop your calendar. If you have snow days, that can be further out, but as a general rule, so

for us to actually get in the required number of days, um, we couldn't do graduation a week earlier because it would have actually been six days instead of no less than five. >> Okay. >> So, um, >> it seems like a very, like she was saying, a very busy >> Yeah. >> day. Yeah. I think in the so next year would be my sixth year in the district and it would be the second time graduation was in the second week I believe I believe but my first year or my second year I might remember um your first year >> my first year um was uh the second Thursday of the year. >> Yeah. >> Second Thursday of June for this particular reason. >> Yep. And in my time on the board, I can remember a

lot of board meetings that fell on senior awards night where and that's when the board meetings were starting at seven. So people were coming up with that quorum sometimes on those nights right after the vote. Um but we are planning well in advance of it. Um so if you have any other questions about the schedule, I'm happy to answer those. Um, and but we wanted to get this to you as soon as possible so that you can um mark your calendars and we'll do it all again next year. >> Next year, >> June 9th is a 5:30 so that we can be wrapped up by seven for senior awards night for class night. >> Um, >> and and just going back to um Jen's question, so this year we had graduation on the 4th. We

don't finish with all kids until the 18th. But if we actually hadn't adjusted the schedule, they would have finished on the 21st, 22nd. So you'd be graduating on the 4th and final student day would have been the 22nd. It's for those reasons this the So next year it's highly likely our last student day for everyone with a couple snow days will be the following Tuesday maybe. or Wednesday or Thursday >> or just scheduled. We'll finally hit that no snow day year. >> Any other questions on school board meeting schedule? Great. Next up, I will make a motion to enter into executive session to discuss a student matter pursuant to one MRSA 4056B. All those in favor? That motion carries. We are in executive session. What is the direction of the board? >> I move that

student a be expelled indefinitely with a road map for return. >> So we have a motion and a second. Is there any discussion? All in favor? That motion carries. Administration will get with you on next steps. At this time, I'm going to make a motion to enter into executive session to discuss a student matter pursuant to 1 MRSA 4056B. >> Oh, I'm going to give it to the >> All those in favor? Motion carries. We're in executive session at 7:37 p.m. am uh what is the direction of the board? >> Uh I make a motion to reenter student B and Wes. So, we have a motion and a second to reenter student B. Is there any discussion? All those in favor. That motion carries. Welcome back. At this time, I'll make a motion to enter

into executive session to discuss a student matter pursuant to 1 MRSA 4056B. All those in favor, we're in executive session at 7:54 P.M. What is the direction of the board? >> I make a motion that we reenter student C. Uh, is there any discussion? All those in favor? That motion carries. Welcome back. At this time, I'd like to make a motion to go to enter into executive session to discuss a student matter pursuant to 1 MRSA 4056B. Adam. All those in favor, we're in executive session at 810. What is the direction of the board? >> I make a motion to reender student de. >> So Jen Anastasia, is there any discussion? All those in favor? That motion carries. Welcome back. Calendar announcements are at the bottom of your agenda. Next meeting is June 24th. We'll

see you all then. We are adjourned. 8:27 p.m.
