It's National School Board Month. We also have a little short video we want to show you just as our way to say thank you for everything you do for our district. >> January is full board appreciation month. So to our governing board >> business services would like to say >> thank you for all of your support. >> Thank you boards and staff >> from food services to the governing board. Thank you. >> A big thank you to our >>

Thank you so much on behalf of Ranch Elementary and our Ranch Elementary student council. I just wanted to say thank you for everything you've done to support us. On behalf of the rest of the students of Jol Unified School District, >> we would like to say >> Oh, >> thank you. We appreciate you. >> Thank you. >> A nice. >> That's sweet. Thank you. >> We appreciate everything you do. We know it's as many people will realize, it's not a paid position and you commit yourself. I know. >> And you commit yourself to helping out our our kids and our schools. So truly from the bottom of our heart, we thank you for everything you do. We know that their best interest are in your best interest and and that's what it's all about. We

couldn't do it without you. So thank you. >> Thank you. >> And that's my report. >> You literally can't do it without us. [laughter] >> Okay. Um so are we moving on to 5.2 uh school and staff recognition >> principal Lopez. >> Hello. Thank you president of I can't speak today. Um thank you madam president members of the board and our community. Um we wanted to take a few minutes to be able to highlight um one of the things that we're very proud of at Simon Elementary. We have a lot of our staff members here today as well to support us and to support you guys. Um when we're looking to highlight our school, one of the things that I um had noticed, and I'm still waiting for this to load up for us, um

one of the things that we had noticed when we got to our campus is that we had a lot of students that were struggling with their emotions. they were struggling with regulation and within a classroom setting where they have a lot of stress, they have a lot of peers, a lot of um things happening in their lives, we found that we needed to find a place for them to be able to have a safe space to go to be able to help themselves regulate and gra gather the tools to be able to do so. So, we call it a reset room at Simon because we are the Stallions. We've been kind of rebranding everything. So, we actually call it the stable just like we've renamed we've renamed our multi-purpose building the barn and we're just

kind of slowly giving things different names because if we're going to be the stallions, we should lean into it in my opinion. >> For sure. >> Um, but one way, one of the things we have come to is a reset room is really a place for kids to be able to get that regulation that they need. It's not a punishment. It's an intervention. It's a place that's a safe space. It's a quiet place. It's a place that has tools for them where they can get back to learning after they've gotten themselves regulated afterwards. And I'm going to go kind of fast because what I really want to get to is the video at the end where you kind of see the room that we put together. And we're very proud of it. So, our our

kids are still learning how to to regulate. They they get overloaded. They get those sensory skills. We have two counselors and a team of teachers and staff that are working with those students to help them out. But sometimes they just need some more tools and they need a space where they can go that feels better. So they're still developing that self-control and we need to find we we found that we needed to find a way instead of doing it in the hallway, instead of taking them to a room where there was a bunch of people, instead of doing it out on the grass or wherever that happened to be, we needed a space where we could get them to go and they they could work on building the autonomy to be able to help themselves

get regulated and use those tools as they move forward. So, what we found is we actually have some data when we get into what our reset room is. We we reached out to some of our community partners. We asked them to do some donations for us. They donated things like um not just like fidgets and things, but canoes that give students that need that like deep hug some of the weighted animals and things like that. We had donations of those come in. We had ball pits donated, bouncing things. We've had magnets and just different like breathing balls, breathing tools, pin wheels, things that depending where the student is or what they need, we have those tools to be able to help them get that regulation in in place, learn the problem solving and the skills

to be able to do that and then again get back to class. Um, when we set up this room, we are starting to notice fewer escalations. We're starting to notice fewer referrals with some of those students because they're asking for breaks. They're saying, "Can I go to the the stable? Can I go to the barn? I need a break. Sometimes they ask, sometimes they use break cards, but what generally happens is they go into the room, there are clear expectations and time limits. We have SOPs posted on the wall, and you'll see them when you see the video of the room, where they know exactly what that expectation is when they get in there. They're taught strategies as they get into the room with the breathing and the sensory tools. They're given choices when they

get in there, and we have structured routines for them while they're in the room. So, what we've noticed is we opened up the room in October and you can see that we had kind of a slow start to it. But as we've gotten into December and January, each date is a number for a student that's been in the room. And now you're noticing as we get into January, we've been building the time in this room into some of our counseling minutes. Some of our um student PBIS breaks, like if they have a check-in and checkout, they have that sometimes built into there as well. So, we're seeing an uptick in the amount of time that they're spending, the amount of visits that we're having, not the amount of time. When they get in there, you

will see that they're sometimes in there for emotional regulation, sometime because they're having a little bit of a meltdown and they need just that moment to rec re rec kind of collect themselves or a requested break or IEP minutes or check-in and checkout support. Um, a lot of times we've done tours with the staff and done tours with the students. And it's not just open to students that are on 504s or IEPs. It's open to any student that we feel needs that support or needs that break or be needs to be able to have some help with that school. Some of our counseling groups even do their time in that room so that they can have that time and those tools are available during that time as well. And the last one is again we're

looking at the time frame. We're trying to track the duration of the minutes. So, when a student is checked in with an adult member um into our reset room, what generally happens is there's a a QR code that they can scan and it lets you know why they're checking in, who they're checking in, and then how long they're checked in for so that we can kind of track and we can adjust the room so that it meets the needs of our our students and the the diversity that we have going on on our campus. So, we're trying to keep it going in real time so it can be used to the best of ability of all of our students. And then last, this is just kind of a short video of what we actually have

set up in the room. Again, we have different things mounted on the walls. We were trying to keep it safe. Those are our pods with different books. Inside those pods, those canoes are weighted animals. We have those SOPs that all of the staff that brings them into follow. And we have more things in boxes that we haven't quite get gotten set up yet. We've been very excited to have um the support from the community and our partners that we have received. So that kind of shows you a little bit of what that space looks like. And then we have some of our students that are actually in the process of using that when they go in and they take their breaks. So again, this is just something that we had started this initiative with this

week and we're or this year and we're trying to build it and to tailor it for the diverse needs of our kids to provide that space for them. Um, I will also say that sometimes we have staff that goes in there. I've been known. >> Can board members come? >> I I have been known to lay in a canoe with a weighted animal. I will own up to that. [laughter] And I will tell you that it's a pretty magical place to chill for a little while. So, yes, if you need a space to go, we have the stable over at Simon and you can join us there. [laughter] Anyway, that's just kind of showcasing one of the things, one of the initiatives that we're really proud of our campus and um we're excited to see

it as it grows and as we continue moving forward with it. >> Nice. >> Absolutely. And with that being said, I want to get into our awards because we have four people on my campus that we're very excited to recognize. Um but the cat got a little bit out of the bag because we were surprising people and then their names got put up on the screen and now they all know who they are, [laughter] >> right? They're surprising now. So, darn it. Um, I just really want to I'm going to start with our first person. This is a person who, um, if I'm being honest, is probably a little bit upset with the fact that I'm surprising her by getting her in here to do this. Um, she is the kind of educator who makes

a tremendous impact on our campus with like little ripples. You don't really know what she's doing. It's happening behind the scenes. She doesn't like a spotlight on her. She doesn't really want anybody to to look too closely. She just wants to get it done. She wants what's important for the kids and for the school and for the the community of Simon to be her priority. She builds really strong, meaningful relationships and connections with not just with the students, but with families and with staff. And she's just really thoughtful in her approach to doing everything that she does. And it's evident through her students achievement and the relationships that we built. So, we would like to honor our third grade teaching, Kristen Salenoa. And I want to say my daughter's name is Kristen and hers is

spelled the right way. So we always joke about that. This is yours. I'm not going to drop. Um, our next recipient is also probably not happy with me that that they're going to have to come up here and get their picture taken. Um, we um he quietly works behind the scenes at our campus. Anyone who's worked in a school knows that your maintenance and your custodial department is what keeps the place running. If you don't have a strong person in that role, then you're going to struggle. us every day of the every day of the week. And um as our head custodian um this individual takes on many tasks that nobody wants to handle like he does the things whether it's cleaning tables in the cafe or putting out our crossbook signs or answering to

a dreaded code yellow on our campus, >> things like that. He approaches every responsibility that he has with a positive attitude and a and a smile on his face. Like most of the times when I've asked for something to be done, it's done before I ask. He's already, oh, I'm on it. It's taken care of Mrs. Lopez and I don't have to worry about those kinds of things. He addresses those issues. He has things set up and it's done quietly and just with an attention to detail that I appreciate. So, we would like to recognize John Lman as our other one of our others. My my third apple. I kind of told her that she was going to have to be my Vanna to get her to come up here with me. [laughter] Um, next

is our Vanna. And again, um, she joined us, Courtney Clark, as our class as a classroom teacher teaching fifth grade on our campus last year. And she was new to Combmes. She was new to the schools. She was new to all of those things. And she came in with Austo really taking on that role and doing her best to learn the curriculum and learn the processes that we have here in this district. And then this year she made us a transition from being a classroom teacher to being our instructional coach. And again, she handled it with the same enthusiasm and the same attention to detail. She um helps our teachers with the 15-day challenge. She dug into that and she learned all she could to be able to support them. And she um serves as

helping support the students and the staff in the campus when I'm off campus for meetings or various things. And she does it with a calm and collected attitude. And she's just a real joy to have on our campus. So, we would like to honor Courtney Clark. >> All right. with an apple and I will get her. She always and our our last one. We again tricked somebody. We used some devious means to get our volunteer of the month here. Um we are honoring Brianna Stock. We call her Miss Bri on our campus. She is a member of our PTO and um she has such a heart for our school and such a heart for our students and it it shows in everything that she does. She does not live in our area. She drives 20

minutes every day to bring her son to school and then 20 minutes every day to pick him up. So, not only is she making that drive because she believes so much in Simon, she also does dedicates all of her time to helping with our various projects and making sure that we have the things that we need for our school. And so, um, she's a natural leader. She's super thoughtful. She, um, the kids love seeing her. The staff loves love seeing her when she comes on campus. Everybody's just thrilled to see Miss Bri. And, um, she has embraced us. And we've embraced her. And I don't know how we would get along without her every day. And so, we are honoring Brito Stock. We're going to have her come up and get her apple. We told

her, we told her that she was going to have to come up and speak to save something. That's what we got her. We're like, "We need you to defend us." [laughter] So, >> Oh, so she was coming with fighting words. >> She was [laughter] her volunteer. Good job. >> With that being said, thank you so much for giving us this opportunity tonight. >> No problem. Thank you. Okay, we're going to go to student of the month with our honorary uh >> sub. We we did I did listen to you on mic broomhead. You did a great job. >> Thank you. >> Good job. >> Appreciate that. >> Way to represent. >> Thank you. Madame President, members of the board, Dr. Wyman and Miss Judy, it is my pleasure to present to you the January student

of the month for each of the school campuses. Um this year's I mean, excuse me, this month's character trait is work ethic. So students, as I announce your name, if you'd come stand next to me at the podium, turn and face the crowd. And when I'm done reading the nice things about you, you'll go over to see Miss Valenuela for your medal and a picture. So, we'll start with Combmes High School. Uh, Alana Leatubo, is she here today? >> She's on volleyball, so she's probably at practice. >> She is very busy. I can contest that. Or so anyway. So, so the high school will recognize her at a different time. Um, from Combmes Center for Success, Janiah Kitchen. Janiah Right. So you get to turn and face everybody in. >> Oh. >> So Janiah demonstrates

an intrinsic commitment to work hard at school, at home, and in the workplace. She consistency consistently maintains a positive attitude towards learning and perseverance. She works on her classes at home and actively discusses curriculum with her teachers to deepen her understanding across all subjects. We are so glad to have Daniah as part of the pack at CCS from Combmes Middle School. Omni Perez. Did I say your name correctly? Fantastic. >> So, Omni was recognized by several of his teachers. Um, one comment. Omni is a remarkable student whose strong work ethic shines both in the classroom and on the wrestling mat. >> His commitment to academic excellence is matched matched only by his dedication to the sport. He approaches every challenge with diligence, determination, and an unwavering drive to succeed in all he his pursuits. I'm

lucky to have him. Uh, and this is from Miss Leptic. I am lucky to to have been able to be a part of Omni's academic and athletic endeavors this year. Another comment by a teacher. Omni is always working hard to get his assignments done and understands the material. He will ask questions to make sure he's completing all of his work correctly and to improve. During group activities, he pushes his classmates to stay on task and complete the task at hand. He brings a positive energy with him to class every day, always making sure to greet him, Mr. is it Kasruda and meet Mr. Castruda on his way into class. And another comment, Omni is one of the students that every teacher wishes he had. He is a hard worker, always has a positive attitude, and

always wears a huge smile. >> Nice. Good job >> from Combmes Traditional Academy. Justin Justin Briderman. >> Hi Justin. Justin Con consistently demonstrates outstanding work ethic in the classroom. He takes his time with each assignment, making sure his work is accurate and thoughtfully completed. He is a student of great integrity who can always be counted on to do the right thing. Justin works well with his peers, is kind and supportive, and is always willing to lend a helping hand. His positive attitude and dedication make him a wonderful role model for others. Don't forget your hardware. >> Yeah. Oliv, Olivia Guzman Monero. Olivia here. Okay. Ellsworth will recognize Olivia on their campus. From Harmon Elementary, David Patterson. David consistently demonstrates an intrinsic commitment to work hard on personal growth. He is very smart and hardworking student

who takes pride in all of his work and accomplishments. He is always respectful, polite, and responsible, turning in his assignments on time and giving his best effort in everything he does. David is willing to help others, listens carefully to suggestions, and applies feedback thoughtfully and seriously. He maintains a positive attitude, approaches learning with enthusiasm, and is always eager to learn new things. With his constant smile, strong work ethic, and dedication to excellence, David serves as an outstanding role model for his peers from Ranch Elementary, Wyatt Mack. Wyatt here. Wyatt will be recognized on his campus from Simon Elementary. Tony Guzman. Tony demonstrates a strong work ethic. He consistently tries his best, meets deadlines, and is kind and respectful to both peers and adults. He is helpful to other students and contributes positively to the classroom

environment. I believe that's it. Did I miss anybody? >> I don't know who has bigger smiles, the parents or the principles and the teachers that are here. It's great to see. Good job. Congratulations, everyone. We will take we will take a couple minutes break so you can get pictures if you'd like pictures and then you're welcome to leave and then we'll start back up in a few minutes with the rest of the meeting. >> Nice kid. [music] Heat. Hey, Heat. [music] >> [music] [music] >> Hey, [music] hey, hey. [music] Hey, hey, hey. [music] >> [music] [music] >> Move on with the meeting. So, we have governing board updates. Where? Hold on. Where's Lisa? Oh. Oh, okay. Well, we'll wait then. We'll wait for Lisa. Do you guys anything from anybody? >> No ma'am. >> Um

just that I uh the teachers came back and um the Combmes Educational Foundation gave out grants and it was really cool to see that I got to help them. That was so much fun and just seeing um all the teachers that participated and everybody who who got things. It was really cool. >> Yeah. Was pretty awesome. >> All right. Anything, Mr. Ray? >> No. >> Okay. >> Um just enjoying the Combmes High School boys basketball and girls volleyball games. If you haven't been to one, especially the boys uh varsity basketball, they're playing tonight. I'm hoping to make it out of here. What time is it? We might make it out in time to go see them. If you haven't caught one of their home games, they they've been nailbiters and they have won I think

almost every single home game. Miss Loftess could correct me, but it's and the band comes. You usually don't always have a band indoors in a gym at a basketball game, but it is it's quite the experience. So, if you haven't go, gone, go. Um, and then the CMS flag football team, they just recently had tryyous and they had such a big turnout that they have two teams. Um, so they have more teams than any of the others that are in our league participating. Uh, which is really exciting. And then going to a meeting that they had last night. Most of the coaches from the Combmes High School varsity football team are coaching the flag football team. There's about a dozen girls on the team. And so it's really neat to see the future. Um I

kind of refer to it as like a feeder program. Maybe that's not the best way, but it's a good thing um to have all those girls on that team getting the experience so that they can come to the high school and be on the girls flag football team and then all of those um young men coming and getting trained by hopefully their future varsity football coaches. So it's it's just a really great community here at Combmes. um and to see see those coaches wearing hats at at both schools. >> Nice. Um I also um went to the trap and skate fundraiser this weekend. Um they had um 21 teams which was awesome. And there was an ATA event at the same time. I don't know if you guys really understand, but they had um 17.

So I was like, "Oh, that was nice. We had more than they did." Um fundraiser was a huge success. They profited $20,000, >> right? Like that's a those but we had I think they have over 40 kids on the team now. So there are they're growing. Did you >> win a raffle? They had some really good raffles. >> They had some awesome raffles. And yes, I did come out with one raffle. Not my whole lot, but yeah, [laughter] >> my my son Walker, he's an alumni, so he went and shot and um he he got the candy basket, of course. So >> that's great. Whatever. Our friend there got the Blackstone. There was a Blackstone there. So, yeah, Blackstone, a TV, a dash cam. Like, they had some sweet items. But anyway, they had a

really good turnout. So, $20,000. Good for them. All right. Um, we will go ahead and um go to 6.1 public comments. And we have a video, short video. This is a time for the public to comment. The board invites the viewpoints of citizens throughout the district and considers the responsible presentation of these viewpoints vital to the efficient operation of the district. Members of the governing board may not discuss items not on the agenda and will be limited to directing staff to study the matter for further consideration and possible decision at a later date. The board there establishes the following procedures to receive input from citizens of the district. Any individual desiring to address the board shall complete a form and give this form to the superintendent prior to the start of the board meeting. The

board president will keep each speaker to a threeminut time limit. Questions or comments on matters under legal review will not receive a response. Members of the governing board may not discuss items not on the agenda. Personal attacks are discouraged. At the conclusion of a call to the public, individual members of the board may respond to any criticism made by an individual who addressed the board. The expectation of the governing board and district is that everyone treats one another with respect and that the speaker presents their viewpoints in a civil manner. If more than 10 individuals request to speak, the board president reserves the right to limit individual speakers to two minutes and may set a time limit to the call to the public session. Okay. So, we have um Karen Oliver who would like to

come up. >> Yep. Make sure that microphone is on. There you go. >> Sounds like it. Um, good evening. My name is Karen Oliver and I appreciate the opportunity to speak to you tonight. I stand before you as a retired Arizona public educator, concerned citizen, and co-director of the Queen Creek Sand Valley Indivisible Group. As citizens, we have serious concerns about the safety of our children with the increasing presence of ice in our community. Today, our group dropped off packets with information to each of the schools in our district um where I live. The packets contain information about your rights and protecting staff and students. I trust that the district has already had conversations and training regarding this threat to our community. It's our hope that this information is helpful for district and school administrators,

teachers, and other staff members. I hope the district is doing everything in its power to protect direct employees and subcontractors such as landscapers who work for JL Combs. In addition to the valuable students that we have living in our community, um we respect this and support the good work that you're doing. Um we support you in every way and um if you need any support or help from us, we're here. Um uh thank you for your time and that's That's all. I have a hard copy of the packet and I have emailed um a copy of the folder to the info at JL Combmes. So you have that. >> All right. Thank you. >> So thank you very much for your time and we support you wholeheartedly. >> Boy, they're loud out there. Okay, we

will go to the consent agenda. Um any questions on this consent agenda? comments, concerns. Okay. If we don't have any questions, I'll take a motion. >> I move to approve the consent agenda as presented. >> I second. >> All in favor? >> I motion carries five to zero. >> All right. Um let's go down to our action items. Okay. Um 8.1 discussion. Hold on. It's because it's doing it on one side and not the other. It's okay. I don't like this. Okay. Discussion um and consideration approval of district's 202425 annual comprehensive financial report. Go. >> Are there any questions? >> I know I'm picking. Okay. Um, Madame President, members of the board, members of the community and audience, um, the 2025 annual comprehensive financial report, the ACFR, I'll refer to that often, and the single

audit have been completed by Clifton Larson Allen. The annual financial report is 119 pages. It's a narrative overview and analysis of the financial activities and the district of the district in conformity with general accepted accounting principles. You probably have heard that called GAAP. The single audit reporting package is much shorter. It's only 14 pages long and it does review our internal controls over financial reporting and compliance and other matters based on the audit of financial statements performed in accordance with government accounting. When that single audit was prepared, we did have two findings this year. Sorry. [laughter] One of them was actually a little surprising. We caught um that in the FY23 audit, we identified some receivables for the SR3 grant. The FY24 duplicated that and we did not find it until this audit when we

were carrying everything forward. We don't often have multi-year grants. They are rare, but they do exist. So, we did do an adjustment in the FY25 to disclose that item. We are identifying it here in the single audit, and we've also added a step in our process for reviewing the ACFR revenues, the receivables to make sure that if we have a multi-year grant, we don't have this coming up again. Census was originally found on SR3. SR3 all reporting with the state is closed. It's all accurate. There was no duplication there. It was just in this one report. The second finding deals with and I apologize admin Arizona administrative code title 7 chapter 2 article 10 and 11 which states that quotes are required for expenditures that exceed $10,000 and are less than $99,999.99. Anything over 100,000

you have to go in for a formal RFP. We had one vendor that did exceed this $10,000 but was not supported by quotes or cooperative purchasing agreement or identify it as a sole source. So what happened? It was previously on our sole source list because they are a soul source. Unfortunately, they were inadvertently omitted on your FY25 list that was brought to you for approval. So when the PO came through or the requisition came through, we thought it was on the soul source list, but it wasn't when we went back to double check it for the audit review. So that is a finding. We have um identified an additional step in our process to document all of the uh purchase orders that are in that target range and document what their sole source, cooperative purchase

agreement or quote support is we've already initiated that. Um, are there any questions about either one of these documents? >> How come they didn't get back on the sole source? Was there some oversight or >> We made a mistake. >> We usually check them. We did not think that they were going to be on the FY25 expenditure budget, so they weren't included when it came to you. >> Oh, >> but they should have been. >> Okay. >> That's all it is. >> All right. Any questions? >> This one does call a roll call. Madam President, as Arizona revised statute 15914H says you have to accept this publicly in a roll call vote. So if each of you will please speak very clearly into the mic. >> I read my briefing notes. >> Thank you. >>

Look at me. >> Okay. So all right, we'll just start down there. Diane, >> what do I need to do? >> Oh. Oh, yeah. We'll do a motion. Yep, you do. >> I move to approve the 2425 annual comprehensive financial report and supporting documents as presented. I second. >> Okay, we'll take a vote. Diane, >> I >> Oh, do I need to say their name? >> Do we need to say the whole thing? >> Melissa, just say I just I just have to say your name. Melissa >> I >> Ray >> I >> Stephen Ray >> uh I for Shelley Lisa >> I um that um five vote uh five to zero it carries. >> Thank you. Okay. All right. By 8.2, discussion and consideration or approval of policy changes as recommended that by the

ASBA and policy advisory 959. Second reading. >> This is just a small change coming from ASBA. It's uh consolidation of some language as they're going through and fixing up the the policy manual. They're making some changes. We brought this forward to you guys a couple months ago and then it got lost as we all learned this new system. Um, we thought it was coming back last month and we realized it didn't. Um, so it it just has the language has just been changed around in a couple different policies, but nothing's changed. So, I'd recommend approval as presented. >> All right. Um, any questions? No questions. I'll take a motion. >> My motion to approve changes to policy DJ as presented in policy advisory 959. >> Second. >> All in favor? >> I. [clears throat] Motion

carries five to zero. Okay. 8.3 discussion and cons discussion and information on proposed changes to policy GCC professional support staff bereavement leave second reading. >> And this is what we just brought back to. We took it to you in June and we missed something when we put it through for approval in June. Um the change the original change was to make sure that if the way the policy read you only could use briement once but we've had several situations where there's been multiple deaths in a family and so we wanted to change it to allow for that but in inadvertently we left off brother-in-law and sister-in-law as part of what's considered part of family. So this change is just to add brother-in-law and sister-in-law back into the policy like it was before. So I would

recommend approval as presented. >> Any questions, comments? No. All right. If no, then I will take a motion. >> I move to approve the change to policy GCC, professional support staff bereavement leave as presented. >> I second. All in favor? >> I >> did you I >> Okay, motion carries five to zero. I didn't hear you. Okay. Um, this is Wait a minute. Discussion and consideration of action to approve board president. Are we doing Oh, okay. We're going to do the >> You'll do the president first and then you'll come back and do the clerk. >> All right. I move to nominate. >> Wait. Oh. Oh, hold on. Hold on. You're getting >> That train was moving. That train. eliminated yourself obviously. >> We moved into the next thing and if I >> Holy moly

we have some everything right. He's all over it. [laughter] Okay. All right. So the sequence of electing the board president. So um we'll take a motion. >> Go ahead. Go. >> I move to nominate Shelley Harkers for the position of board president. >> I second. >> Okay. Any other any other nominations? So, does someone need to motion to close it? Right. >> Um, as long as we don't have any other on the nominations. Yeah. >> Okay. So, I move >> to uh close the nomination for board president. >> Okay. >> Second. >> All right. All in favor of closing it? >> I motion carries five to zero. Um, so motion to approve. >> Right. So, I move to approve >> that we're closing it. >> Okay. >> I thought we just did that. >> Yeah.

But you had to do it there. >> Okay. All right. >> Technology. >> I It is I don't like this one. >> Yes. >> I move to approve Shelley Harris for the position of board president. >> We already did that, right? >> No, you just nominated. >> I'll second it. >> Yeah. There you go. Okay. >> [laughter] >> Um, all right. Um, all in favor? >> I Motion carries five to zero. >> Yeah, I messed up the last one. >> It's okay. [laughter] >> We still have to vote for this one. >> Okay. Sorry. >> Something we do all the time. Okay. Okay. Okay. Discussion and consideration of action to approve board member representative of the Combmes Education. Oh, wait. >> The clerk. >> Oh, we didn't. Oh, the clerk. I was like, okay, here

we go. Discussion and consideration of action to approve board clerk. So, a board member makes a motion to nominate anybody for the for the clerk. >> Okay. I move to nominate Melissa Valenuela for the position of board clerk. >> Okay. I'll second. Um, any other nominations? I would like to nominate Lisa Horn, board clerk. >> All right. Any other Do I need a second then? >> I'll second that nomination. >> Okay. So, um then I'll move to close nominations. >> Second. >> Steve can second. >> All in favor? I I >> So motion carries five to zero. Okay. So, we have Melissa. >> We'll um we'll need a motion to approve for Melissa. >> I move to approve Melissa for the position of board clerk. >> I second. >> It's fine. All in favor? I

>> I all all oppose. >> Nay. Okay. So, we we have um the board the motion carries three to two. >> Yeah. >> Yes, we did. >> Okay. >> No, it's three. Three to two. Diane and Lisa. >> Did I click the wrong thing? >> Yeah, >> correct. >> Mhm. Are we good? >> Are you good? Wait a minute. Okay. Melissa did. >> It's okay. Okay. >> Perfect. >> This whole thing is crazy. >> Are we good? >> Okay, we're good that time, >> right? Okay. >> Okay. >> Are we ready to move on? Okay. 8.6 discussion and consider consideration of action to approve board member representative for the Combmes Education Foundation. Who Melissa, are you on that right now? >> I am. >> Okay. >> Um, is there anybody else that's interested in doing

this? Because I mean, I think it's great for anybody that wants to do it. I >> It is. >> It's fun. >> And I mean, it's a great gladly give it up or do it with somebody or whatever. It's just a great >> It entails a couple of inerson meetings and a couple of Zoom meetings and then it entails up to you. Um so, for example, like Melissa came to uh uh to the January PD because we handed out the um uh the the many grants. And so if you want to go to that, you go to that uh at uh uh the staff excellence awards and at the scholarship nights. um they'll be up the person will be up there to help handing out awards there. So, so there's whatever you would desired if

you wanted to go to the golf tournament when the golf tournament, but it's up to you. It's not like there's a mandatory of anything, but it's it's it's generally two inerson meetings and two Zoom meetings during the year and then everything else is up to the individual depending on what their schedule is and what their availability is. >> Okay. Do you have any >> you want to do it? >> Yeah, I'll do it. >> Okay. Oh, all I mean I wanted to make a motion. >> Go ahead. >> Not me though. >> I move to nominate Lisa Horn for the positions Education Foundation represent for 2026. Is that right? >> No, I think Diane wanted to >> Oh, sorry Diane. Go ahead. >> No. >> Okay. >> All right. >> Sorry, did I mess everything

up? >> Yep. I'm going to make a motion to nominate Diane for the position of >> Sorry. J Combmes. >> I missed the memo. >> Um, education foundation. >> Second. >> All right. All in favor? >> I motion carries five to zero. >> Right. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> So then we have to >> So a motion to um approve Diane for the position of Combmes Education Foundation >> represent. Do we have to close it? No, >> we just did. >> That was the nomination. We still need to close it. >> Oh, we Oh, you're right. always do I still have to close it. Okay, go ahead. You're right. I motion to close nominations for the Combmes Education Foundation representative for 2026. >> I second. >> All in favor? >> I This is going to

go on the board review just so we're clear that we need to get our act together. Motion. [laughter] Okay. So, um, now we'll do we'll we're going to actually motion to approve Diane for the position of Combmes Education Foundation representative for 2026. >> Okay. So, I move to approve Diane for the position of >> No, I just did. >> Okay. You just did that, so I second it. >> There you go. All in favor? >> Who's on first? >> No one. We don't know. Okay. I >> Motion carries five to zero. I think I >> I don't really understand because I'm going to just say that we've never voted on the Combmes education like had a vote. We just nominated we just like appointed somebody. >> So that was kind of throwing me. But it's

fine. It's fine. >> We could keep it legal. >> It's my last six months. So I just want to watch you guys struggle up here. >> Yeah, it's okay. >> You did a great job. Yeah, you did it great. And um for future >> anybody like in the future, what I'm gonna just tell you right now after these nominations close, we are supposed to switch seats. So that's why I don't really like to do it till the very end because it's so weird. Do you see what I'm saying? It's just kind of a weird thing. But since I'm not the one that's like I'm still going to because like that means that whoever if somebody else was as somebody else was president they would have to now take over from this position on. No, it's

fine. No, I'm just saying just for future reference that that's what would happen. You can keep it there, but that means there's like a lot of awkward like moving and stuff or whatever. So anyway, all right. So, information discussion items 9.1 discussion information on 2526 district student enrollment numbers. >> Um, I gave you the report uh I think it was last week on the numbers uh came out pretty decent uh over the break. Lost about 10 kids um is what the numbers look like. Um [clears throat] and then I will let you know that uh uh Mr. Brambert did do a presentation to Queen Creek this week. they were about a week week and a half ahead of us in terms of the study. >> So we're anticipating they asked for some more data. I

think it was yesterday or today. So we would anticipate that we will get at least a rough of the demographic applied economics demographic study in the next couple weeks and that we would we would plan to present at February unless something unless something unique comes up. So, that will give us a uh at least an updated look at the potential impact um of some of these new subdivisions that are going in. There's a new one going in in the fields uh across the street from uh Olive Olive Mill as an example um that's not been accounted for. Um and then there's a couple of these rent lease down here at the end of Kenworthy and Oatil that's going in. So hopefully some of these new ones that maybe weren't on the older one be on

this one. Whether that translates to kids or not, we'll just wait and see. But but uh hopefully in February we'll have a better idea on that. >> Okay. Uh 9.2 discussion information regarding conflict of interest. >> Are we signing those today? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay. >> Um discussion 9.2 is to comply with governing board policy BCB and Arizona revised statute 80 38503. Arizona 38503 of conflict of interest states any board member or employee of the district who has or who has relatives has a substantial interest in any contract sale purchase or service to the district. shall make known that interest in an official record of the district and shall refrain from voting upon or otherwise participating in any manner as a board member or employee such in a contract sale or purchase. It defines

a relative as hang on spouse, child, grandchild, parent, grandparent, any siblings and their spouses and the spouse's parents, siblings and children. That's a lot. Refrain from participating in any manner is more than just refraining from making the final decision. It includes participating in any way in the process leading up to the decision. An employee or governing board member with a conflict of interest must not make recommendations, give advice, or otherwise communicate in any manner with anyone regarding the decision-making process. Review of the conflict of interest guidelines and providing the opportunity to ask questions today also satisfies the USFR uniform system of financial records questionnaire GBMP03 which is reviewed by our auditors every year. Are there any questions? Okay, Miss Winger does have uh the forms ready for your signature tonight so that you can identify

if there is a conflict of interest or if there is no conflict of interest and I will be available to answer any questions that you might have um before you sign the form tonight. >> Okay. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> All right. 9.3 discussion information regarding 2627 school year fee schedule. >> Yes, we will be bringing this back uh next month for approval. Um it's just all the different fees we have. A couple things real quick. You on the attachment you have the current year fees just so you want to have an understanding of what we currently charge. We're looking at obviously with any number of different factors, inflation, etc. that do we need to increase those? What we do when we make those decisions is try to look and see what other districts

around us are doing and so that we stay competitive relative to everybody else and we're not doing uh uh raising it significantly compared to others. Uh I would say probably most people don't make changes to that. Um and so in some case with these course fees, they could be as old as 10 years. Um but to remain competitive with [clears throat] everybody else, we can't just keep raising them. So there may be a few changes in there. We'll just have to see we're having that discussion, but we'll finalize that over the next month and bring it to you and you'll be a we'll be able to find out if there are any changes, what's the difference between uh the current one and the new one. And so we just want to bring that to you

next month. >> Okay. Um 9.4 discussion and information regarding 2627 school year facility rental fee schedule. >> Uh same thing we have to bring this annually to them to to you. Uh there might be some changes. We're still having that discussion. It's the same piece. How do you how do you stay competitive with other rental facilities? So Queen Creek's Performing Arts Center or Higgley's Performing Arts Center. Uh but at the same time the cost um to run the facilities continues to go up. um whether it's in in uh what we have to pay our people to clean or in utilities. Um so we bring this to you every year and we'll bring it to you, but we'll finalize um uh what we have. We have the the current fees there and we're just looking at

at potential changes. I don't anticipate a ton, but we're going to kind of go over it just to just to make sure. >> Okay. All right. 9.5 discussion information regarding school site liaison um liaison. Yeah, this is sheet I'm passing. This is what we have right now. And just every year it's just a case of who wants to do one or the other. We have one unassigned right now only because uh Jason left and so we just wanted to check and see is everybody looking to do the same ones they did last year or is there a request to do some changes. Um obviously Diane came on and and she's not assigned anywhere and so she just going to pick up Simon and everything stays the same. Great. If people want to change, that's great,

too. But we just want to have a short discussion so we know so we can let the principles know who the liaison is. >> I think I think it would be nice to have like everybody kind of >> go to a different school or whatever so they kind of all get a feel for us as board members and and we can see something else. >> Okay. So I have a couple questions. >> Okay. >> One is is it just for schools then? Could it could we have a liaison as well for the district? I mean, there are several district people that maybe would want to talk to a board me. I I don't know. >> I think that if you I think that I think that all of us should be at the district level.

I think it should be all of us. >> Okay. >> Like you just come in. >> A thought. I mean, just a thought and >> you come in whenever you want to talk. >> And I I would just ask just just reach out to me and we'll go ahead if I know Diane I talked a little bit about trying to get some u uh some stuff with the budget as she learns the budget. So just reach out to me and then I'll reach out to the director and we'll set up the the meeting accordingly uh and do that you know go that way. >> Okay. And then do we have like I I mean I don't know that we officially have anything but like what's expected of us or what the principles would like to

see so that we could kind of like >> do you know what I mean? So my suggestion would be that you go and talk to your principal when they when we decide who's leazison you go talk to that principal and then you set up those those expectations what they would like to see from you what you would like to see from them that sort of thing. Okay, reasonable. Okay. >> Yeah, >> sounds good. >> Okay, so um let's go. So there's two people will have to have um no three people will have to have two sites. Um so let's start with uh Col's High School. Currently we have who's here? >> Lisa, I have the high school. >> Okay. Um, I wouldn't mind keeping the high school and then taking Combmes Middle School also only

because I have kids at both. So, I'm at both of those all the time. Although I'm happy to >> not and I would like to take R. >> Oh, okay. [laughter] Ranch. Okay. >> My baby goes there. >> Okay. So, Combmes High School. Um, Lisa, you want to keep Col's High School? >> Unless somebody else would like to. Stephen, >> no, I'm good. >> Um, what about what about if I just switch with you [laughter] because I have the middle school and I have Ellsworth? I mean, just just just for something different. Not because of anything, but just because we all just experience something different. That's kind of my thing is like, >> can we just >> do something different every year so that we have >> So, >> she would like Comb's high school.

>> The high school ranch. >> Uhhuh. >> Okay. All right. And then I don't know why I'm writing this down. Okay. Um, so then you you want the middle school though, Lisa? >> I'll just do the middle school. Okay. >> Okay. And then we have um Harmon Comb Center for Success and Combs Traditional Academy um >> and elsewhere >> and else Yeah, we have Yeah. Um I'll be happy to take um Combmes Center for Success in the Traditional Academy, Stephen. >> Okay. And then so that's that one. >> Okay. What are you taking? Sorry, Shel. You're taking home center for success on the traditional. Okay. >> So, we have Harmon and Ellsworth >> and and Simington. Oh, yeah. Right here. I was I had scratched something out. So, we have three others. >> And I'm

open to taking two. >> Okay. You have Harmon, Ellsworth, Simington. >> I'll do Simington. >> Okay. So, >> then you then um Diane, you'll have Harmon and Ellsworth. Okay. >> All right. Do we have that? Um, okay. All right. >> And there is a there is a link to the site visitation and what you're did you see the link there? Yes. About what's the expectations that kind of thing. Okay. >> All right. Um. All right. So, now we're to um I guess we're to any uh Oh, well, I just lost it. Oh, okay. Um, I think we're at anybody future agenda items. Is that where we're at? [clears throat] >> So, anybody have anything that they would like to put on a future agenda? >> I would like to revisit um accepting ESA funds for

classes, programs, and so forth. >> Okay. And then, um, anything else? Anybody else? Anything you're interested in? No. >> Right. >> Okay. Then where are we at then? Um I'll make a motion to adjourn at 6:39. >> Second. >> All in favor? I >> I motion carries five to zero. Well, you're going to have to vote for me because I just got out of everything.
