A lot of good things happening as we wrap up the semester uh this uh
here in a couple weeks. Uh Coyote football was very successful this year. Uh, congrats on 8 and2 record. Uh, fifth place ranking in the 4A division. Um, senior Sam Pearson was named all region defensive player of the year and all region first team all region honors went to Van Mkeley, Sam Pearson, Alan Chaparo, and Aiden Morrow. There was also individuals that received second team honors and honorable mention honors. Comb's Curtain Call uh theater recently completed competed excuse me in the uh Eastern Regional Competition and as a result of their hard work they received 11 superior ratings and seven excellent ratings uh in categories from costume design to musical theater and acting. Uh they do have an upcoming performance of uh Cinderella in February. We want to thank Ranch uh they're incredibly proud of their student
council. They represented the school at the giving machine unveiling in in uh Queen Creek at the Pan Entertainment District. Um great chance for the kids to get a leadership opportunity, but also uh uh they showed their leadership and their caring uh ability by providing a donation on behalf of uh the school for um uh to the to the program. Uh they also had a at ranch very successful turkey trot. Uh CHS student government worked with the booster club as part of winter formal uh to go ahead and uh support project bridge. Uh students were encouraged to bring non-p perishable food items or toys in exchange for a ticket to the event. Uh and it helped to stock the shelves [snorts] down at Harmon at Project Bridge. Eagles at Ellsworth are busy uh with uh events
this uh um uh this past month. The teachers took part of a professional learning session with Larry Ainsworth focused on strengthening their use of learning targets and success criteria. Uh December 9th um yesterday was the first concert of the year and looking forward to the winter band concert next Tuesday uh at the CPAC. Um and they're also working with students opportunity to select small gifts for family and uh loved ones to the little shoppers shop and they will wrap up with an annual ugly sweater fund run on the 18th. band, as you just saw up on the screen, had a very successful season, probably, I think, as uh Mr. Gibson said in several occasions, the best ever in terms of competition scoring, as well as uh where they were ranked. Uh they ended up with
division four second place finish in the Arizona Band and Orchestra Director's Association stand uh state band competition. They also received accolades for outstanding auxiliary performance and outstanding performance percussion or performance uh in their division. Uh so congratulations to all of them for just an outstanding year. Uh down at Colms Middle School, uh athletics and activities continue to shine. The boys soccer team is undefeated and holding uh first place. Uh they're being uh uh coached by two former uh CMS students, Anthony Corando and Cameron Armstrong. The wrestling team earned an impressive second place at the inaugural Copper Athletic Mid-Season tournament um which the which CMS proudly hosted with more than 250 athletes. The event was highlighted with undefeated uh uh undefeated round for wrestler Rory Hill. Softball is currently in third place and then there uh
CMS is gearing up for their second annual house wars December 17th as well as a dance on the 12th. Uh Simington had balloons over Simington um as part of uh Stallion's community connections to support families uh helpful school and wellness resources. Uh they were amazed by the gen generosity shown through the community food drive. Staff celebrated the holidays with annual pie and stretchy pants day and uh for their balloons over Simington parade. uh they had a significant number of uh community members come and join them as part of that activity. CTA um also worked to help feed our neighbors with over 400 can cans of food items donated as part of the district food drive. Uh thank you to Quickquack Car Wash for donating prizes to the PTO bingo night and making the fundraiser a
successful uh event. uh and uh as part of their partnership with Encantara, they'll be working with the staff in the PTO to bring back holiday movie night and and kids cringingle event at CTA uh where they get to go ahead and buy uh gifts for family members. Harmon's also celebrating the holidays uh annual turkey trot uh was part of the activities that they were involved in. Santa's workshop event is scheduled for tomorrow. The event hosts cook cookie decorating, ornament making, letters to Santa, student musical performances, and vendors will be on site. Also, it's uh one of the bigger events that the school hosts, a jingle jam, uh students will get dressed up for holiday gear and dances and dance and dance. So, good dance night there. Um a lot of partnerships with local uh community
groups or excuse me, community businesses to help them out. Um including uh Costco, Dave and Busters, Native Grill, and Catera and Central Christian Church. And then overall, I know we still have something going on for Christmas, but uh we did a combo Thanksgiving Christmas food drive in the district. Um and it was very very successful. Um we were able to uh come together as a district and provide uh over 800 boxes of of stuffing in one case. Uh Simon collect over 500 cans of of cranberries. We're able to give at Thanksgiving. Uh, all the bags had a $20 gift uh uh cards thanks to donations from Ouru Auto uh Mrs. Fountain, Dr. Tim Fountain's mother, the Lions Club, OneGPA, Bidden Brown, uh, Encanter Retired Educators Club, and along with that, I believe we gave out
boxes and I don't know if Jenheim can get me right on numbers um about a hundred for um Thanksgiving and then we'll give the same set of boxes, 100 boxes out for uh Christmas time. So overall, all the schools contributed and the district office and it's just a great way to reach out to our community and and thank them. So that's all I have. >> Okay. Um we'll go to 7.2 uh school and staff recognition. We have the high school. >> Good evening, Madam President, board members. My name is Carl Hill. I'm an assistant principal at Colmes High School. Uh, thank you for your continued support of Col's School. I'm proud to share a few recent accomplishments that reflect the hard work of our students, staff, and community. CHS successfully completed the past and past
the Cogna accreditation process. Led by Principal Loftess, who served as a primary writer and facilitator, our band earned second place in state, and our football team finished eight and two, hosting our first ever home playoff playoff football game. Good job. >> Good job, Levi. >> CHS also achieved an A rating, which is an exceptional milestone for our campus. >> Yay. Woohoo. >> Thanks to the new Coyote Coyotes of Distinction program, our ASVAB scores almost doubled this year. The minimum ASVAB score for accounting is 35 and we had nearly double the kids um meet a 35 or higher this year. >> Nice. All right. >> We are also grateful to the East Valley Women's League for donating suits to deserving seniors. And additionally, our second annual trunk or treat and farmers market was a great success
for our community. Uh I think we had roughly I don't know 4,500 people there. Just a lot of kids getting uh candy. We got them all sugared up for their [laughter] parents. >> Uh there are many great things happening at CHS and these are only a few of the recent highlights. I want to thank uh every everyone on the board and the community members for all your guys' support. Uh now I'd like to move into our uh recognitions for our teachers and staff members. First off, I would like to bring up Dora Nash. She is a Spanish teacher at Kols High School. >> I was told to keep this short. So, it's only five pages. >> You're going to need to be shorter >> at 42 font. So, [laughter] because I didn't bring >> You
can't even read that. >> Stay up here. >> Because I didn't bring my glasses. So, I would like to recognize Miss Denora Nash, Spanish teacher at Cols High School for her exceptional participation, service, and commitment to our school community. Miss Nash consistently goes above and beyond her classroom responsibilities and become and has become an invaluable member of our CHS team. Miss Nash oversees the student of the month selection process and coordinates all related communications. Each each month she travels to Queen Creek to represent Cols High School at the Kuana student of the month dinner where not dinner um [laughter] where uh she proudly highlights the achievements of our students. Her professionalism and dedication ensures our students are celebrated appropriately within the broader community. In addition to these duties, Miss Nash regularly provides translation support for
IEP meetings, ensuring families have meaningful access to the information resources they need. Her willingness to assist wherever needed reflects her strong sense of teamwork and commitment to student success. Miss Nash has been an outstanding team player and a tremendous addition to Col High School. We truly appreciate her continued service, positivity, and dedication to our students and families. >> Nice. >> Okay, just wait up here. Okay, I'm probably gonna kill your first name, but um can I have Loose Yman's and Adriana Torres up here? All right. Loose and Adriana came to our classroom and made an immediate immediately made a tremendous impact. Their love and dedication to our team and students is immense and their hearts of gold shine through in everything they do. They deeply they care deeply not only for every student in the
room but also their co-workers always stepping in supporting others and lifting the entire team. The classroom is successful because of their talent, creativity and unwavering patience. I truly believe they were placed in this program for a reason. They help our students thrive and reach their goals every single day. We are incredibly proud of them and I cannot think of two people more deserving of this award. Pick up [clears throat] one more. Okay. And then last but not least, uh there are uh several people I don't know if you guys have ever been to a band competition, but or even the halftime performance at a high school band, but the people that are there, the parents that are there and volunteers are many and they're needed because if you watch out there, as soon as the
band gets ready to go out, they're running. you see all these people scurrying out there with all this equipment and everything. Soon as the kids get done, they're scurrying to get everything back off. Well, that's same thing happens at state competitions. So, um after talking to Mr. Gibbons, uh there were some people that we wanted to make sure that we uh that we recognized and those are these are the the volunteers that helped out all season long. Jenny Gust Gustafson, Gustiffson, Jenny Mccur, John Maguire, sorry. Magguire, Ross Rosenbomb, Shayen Rosenbomb, and Riley Maguire. Um, with an added note here, he's not really a booster, but he volunteered at every competition and game. >> Hey, >> uh, but so can I have, uh, Shayen Rosen Bomb up here, please? Okay, I want to Oh, >> I
want to extend my sincere appreciation for the incredible support shown by by our band booster organization this year. Their dedication, organization, and willingness to step in wherever needed has played a major role in our band program success. From co coordinating events and fundraising, I hope I have that next page. to supporting our students and staff with unwavering positivity. They have created a foundation that allows our musicians to thrive. Our band's achievements this season are a direct reflection of their hard work, and I'm deep, deeply grateful for their partnership in sharing and building a strong and vibrant music community. Good job. All right. Thank you. >> You're done. Okay, we'll move on to 7.4 student of the month. >> Madam Chair, members of the board, Dr. Wyman and our staff and really excited to have our
community members here. It's time to recognize some of our students for student of the month as we focus on technology and innovation. Yeah. Under the portrait of a of a graduate. Uh students, when I call your name, if you would come and stand next to me, join me up here. Um you have some great things written about you that we want to share. And when I'm done, you'll cross the room and go over to our board members who have a certificate and a medallion courtesy of the Combmes Foundation. So, first from Combmes High School, Elijah Fishell. Elijah is very interested in using technology to enhance his math learning. He effectively uses tools like graphing calculators and Desmos to explore problems and understand mathematical concepts more clearly. He is a joy to have in class. Congratulations
from comb center for success. Addie is nominated for her exceptional fluency with technology in math. She confidently uses tools like Desmos to explore and solve problems and navigates ingenuity with ease. She shows strong research skills and is able to support her learning across all subjects. Congratulations, Hattie from Combmes Middle School. Isabella Orbin, I really appreciate this write up about Isabella. The middle school wrote, "The transition from elementary to middle school can be a challenge. Add to that the technology feature of being responsible for your own Chromebook." This is where Isabella is being recognized for making that transition so well. She has adapted and shown growth to new technology and a new environment. We love having Isabella in our class and look forward to seeing her continue to shine. Congratulations, Isabella. Next from Combmes Traditional Academy,
Ryder Cruz. CTA has this to say about Ryder. Ryder shows curiosity, creativity, and a strong desire to learn new things. He uses technology responsibly and always shows that he is digitally literate. He completes assigned tasks, but also collaborates with fellow students to expand their knowledge on how to use technology. He is a problem solver and quick to assist peers when needed. Congratulations, writer from Ellsworth Elementary. Automail embodies the portrait of a graduate every day as he respects and cares for technology, digital materials, and valuing the ideas and work of his peers. His actions demonstrate integrity as he creates original work, makes ethical choices online, and uses technology responsibly even when no one is watching. His integrity and leadership set him apart. Congratulations. Way to go. Next from Harmon Elementary, Jack Cordova. We'll find a time
to celebrate Jack at Harmon in the near future. Ranch Elementary, Lola Palmer. Lola is incredibly sweet and a bright light in our fifth grade class. She loves exploring new tools and is always willing to help classmates with technology. Her commitment to creativity and technology helps her projects stand out. She has a positive attitude and brings a smile to everyone around her. We are proud to have Lola in our class. Congratulations, Lola. And finally from Simon, Dean Armstrong. Dean shows great strength in innovative thinking through his creativity, attention to detail, and problem solving skills. He brings his ideas to life through thoughtful drawings and imaginative designs. His positive attitude and creative spirit make his him stand out each and every day. and he provides a great example of what it means to be a student of
the month. Congratulations. Congratulations again to our students and our families who support and our teachers who are with them every day. One more hand for all of them. We'll take a short break. You guys can um take pictures if you want and then we'll get back to our agenda. >> [music] [music] >> Heat. Heat. [music] >> [music] [music] >> Heat. Heat. [music] Heat. Heat. [music] [music] Heat. Heat. N. [music] [music] agenda. [music] Unfortunately, Diane Taylor will not be joining us for the rest of the evening, so we'll have to move on without her. Um we are at 7.5 governing board um uh celebrations, talks, reports. So do we have anything? What do you have anything? >> Not official business, but yes. >> She's a grandma. >> I I yesterday >> she's pretty excited. >> Okay.
Um, Miss Horn, Miss Horn, do you have anything that you would like to report? >> I do. So, just reiterating the success that the Winfo dance was at Combmes High School. Very exciting um to see that one of their dances was turned into a philanthropic event that supports those in our local community. Um, so that was really exciting and fun to see the students get involved in that. And then the varsity cheer team, they went to regionals, they also went to state. Um they did not bring home any trophies, but they had um they had some trials this season and it was neat to see the character traits of sportsmanship. Um just positive attitudes. They carried themselves with class and with grace. Um and and that's really neat to see even when you don't win.
and and it really shows their character um and it spoke volumes to me of what a student at Combmes High School is and what an athlete is and so I was very very proud of them. >> Okay. Um so do we have I'm going to move on. Do we have any public comments? >> No, we don't. >> Awesome. All right. So, we're going to our action items and um let's see. See here. 9.1 monthly. Um am I right? No, >> it's a consent agenda. >> The consent agenda. Hold on. Okay. Um, so we Yes. Um, the consent agenda. Does anybody have any questions, comments, concerns? >> I did raise a question um to clarify the cost that was associated with the requested Combmes Middle School trip. It seems like there was a discrepancy of the
number. >> Yeah, there was just a typo. uh uh when the dollar sign got hit sort of an extra four. So the actual cost is $5,497.98 not the 45,000 uh that's noted on there. So uh and the funding source is uh predominantly title two uh 5,000 of it is a title two and the remainder will come out of the uh CMS budget. So, um, I with your motion, just note that change and then you can move to. >> It's a great program, but when I saw the number, I thought maybe we just send one person. So, it was good to get that clarification. >> Okay. Any other comments? All right. Um, if everybody's good, I'll take a motion. >> Um, so I would need to make the motion with the correction. Correct. >> With the
correction on the dollar amount. Yes. I move to approve the consent agenda as presented with the exception of a correction notated on uh 9.12 regarding the requested trip and cost associated by Combmes Middle School. >> I second. >> All in favor? >> I I >> I motion carries four to zero. [laughter] >> You are welcome. Okay. So, now we'll go down to Okay, you guys, you have to bear with us because we have this new thing and nobody likes it. I do not like it at all. So, um now we're down to action items 10.1. I'm going to um I'm going to go ahead and do this. Um I'm going to make a motion to um approve a superintendent employment agreement for Toby Hogan. as presented. >> I second. >> All in favor? >> I
I motion carries four to zero. Right. >> And uh 10.2 discussion and consideration of approval of superintendent transition services agreement for the to for Toby Hogan. Motion to approve uh I motion to approve the transition service agreement with Mr. Toby Hogan as presented. >> I second. All in favor? I >> I motion carries four to zero. Um we are going to go ahead and let Mr. Hogan come up and speak. >> Madam President, members of the board, members of the community, and those of you who work in the district, uh thank you first of all for you putting your trust in me to be able to lead this district. Uh there are big shoes to fill in in uh following Dr. Wyman and that's very well noted and understood in my from my perspective. It's
also very well noted and understood that change is change and when you're the outsider coming in uh and you're on the inside that can be pretty nerve-wracking and I I recognize that and understand that and so uh know that anything that you've heard from me in the past as far as uh standing up and answering questions, you got the real deal Toby Hogan when when when I speak. Um so that that's me. You're going to get authentic me. Uh, and I'm excited to be here and excited to uh, really just kind of spend the first few months here just listening and meeting people and uh, asking questions and letting questions be asked of me and getting to know each other uh, so that when we get ready to hit the ground in July that we
are uh, on on the same page. So, I'm excited about that. Uh, and I hope you're excited and we will uh, do great things in the comb district moving forward. >> Thank you. We're going to do a quick picture real quick. Sorry, I skipping 10.3. >> Yes, we are. We're uh 10.3 is going to be at the end now. We're tableabling that. Thank you for the reminder, Miss Judy. Um, so we're at 10.4. Discussion, consideration, approval of contract with applied economics. >> Yes. uh we go ahead every couple years and work with uh applied economics to get demographic information on the district. Uh what they do is they look ahead uh 10 years to anticipate um what the growth patterns will be in the district and what the impact will be uh on the district.
Um the this is the uh beginning of another two-year cycle for us. So we are uh looking to move forward. think it's pretty uh appropriate to come forward with um uh this particular um request with a new superintendent coming in. Understanding what the next uh 10 years will be like will be important uh as we take a look at at factors such as the negatives like declining birth rate and uh loss of students to other choice as well as the positives for the increasing number of homes that are coming into the district and what's going to be the expected uh capture rate with those homes. Um and so uh in working with applied economics and Rick Bramer who we've used in the past uh just so happens he is also doing some work with Queen
Creek Unified so we do get a reduced cost uh on this particular um uh mo particular project. Um I will tell you we are aware of budgetary issues within the district. Uh and so this is even though we come every couple years it's almost treated like a one a one-time payment. So rather than pull it out of M uh given uh some of the budget concerns, this will come out of rooftop fees as a one-time payment. So that's what the funding source is. So I would recommend approval as presented >> and expected uh presentation to the board of the results will more than likely be February. I don't I haven't talked to Rick to get it down, but normally he he takes about two months uh uh to gather all the data. it may go
a little bit quicker, but I can't see with uh the Christmas break that we'll he'll be prepared to do anything at the January board meeting. So, I would anticipate that it'll either be February or March that there will be a presentation on on what his report is telling us. >> Okay. Do we have any questions on this? >> I have a couple questions. >> Okay. [clears throat] Um, can we include in the request for the newly incorporated Santan Valley municipality to be included? It was mentioned in their panel county and town of Queen Creek. Um, Santan Valley Incorporated. They have recently appointed their town manager. They have publicly made available the Santan Valley Urban Corps planned development phases. So, I think that it would be advantageous to include that. >> Yeah, I'll I'll talk to
Rick and make sure it's part of it. >> Um, and then my other question is, will current under construction or to be constructed projects for local charter schools be included in their assessment? How do we request >> if if there's any that's on record? what they do is they look at the records uh from developers um across our boundaries. And so you got you got to remember it's our boundaries only. I'm not aware of a current charter that's not already in. Now when it comes to in our district currently occupied like Legacy or ALA, that is factored in. They'll go ahead, he'll pull out the information that says there's this many kids or our kids that are attending LA or this many kids that are attending Happy Valley or any of the other ones. Um
and so that is part of the analysis uh to see where's the leakage so to speak um of our kids uh that could uh theoretically attend our our schools. So that's already baked into the into the formula. If there's a new one coming in and it's in our district, I'm going to give you an example. There's a new one coming in, but it happens to be in Q QC's over on Signal But and Germaine. That would be part of his report, I assume, for QC. I'm not aware of any new ones coming in, but if there is and they have a permit pulled or there's enough of a conversation that's on the drawing board, then yes, that would be part of it. Um uh they do a pretty good job of getting, for example, there's
a one that I just saw that's getting ready to be um uh drawn up on the cotton fields across the street from the olive mill. Um uh and so that will be probably included in there. It's it's in initial stages, but generally they get that kind of information um as as it's current. If there's something that's not been pulled or still very internal or you know very uh discussion phase and that won't be in there and that's why we do it every two years because things change fairly quickly out here and so so some places they'll go every year. We haven't quite seen the hyperrowth uh to make it such that we should go out every year and that's why we've chosen every two years. Is it um feasible for us to ask for a
certain geo fenced area? So maybe like in excess of our of our boundaries a mile or two miles for example radiance that's going up the street just because they might be pulling some of our >> he pulls some data relative to um uh the boundaries relative to the charter schools as an example. Um I can ask uh about going up there. most of the stuff that he's done in the previous reports. So the ALA that's uh right down there off of Meridian between uh Combmes and Aato, he's put that in. I think he's addressed uh Ben Franklin as an example on Germaine. I can check to see whether they would pull I don't know that how much data they they have on that particular one. Uh but we can see we can see what he
does and so uh I'll talk to him and see what we can do. >> Thank you. Okay. So, if we don't have anything else, I will take a motion. >> A motion to approve the contract in the amount of 13,135 with applied economics to conduct a demographic study utilizing one GPA purchasing contract number 23-02P-01. >> I second. >> All in favor? >> I motion carries four to zero. 10.5 discussion and consideration approval of minimum wage increase. Madame President, members of the board, community, future new boss, in November of 2016, voters approved the initiative to raise the minimum wage in Arizona with uh which also included subsequent cost of living allowances each January 1st. On September 29th, the cost of living increase for January 1 of 2026 was announced, increasing Arizona's minimum wage by 45 cents,
moving it from 1470 to 1515. This agenda item is to request approval to apply the 45cent increase to all hourly staff's current pay rate. Um, based on the current staffing, this increase is projected to have an annual impact on our budget of $143,000. That would be $71,500 for this physical year. So, through the end of June, we are requesting that the governing board implement the salary rate increase on December 25th. That is the end of our or the beginning of our pay period. that avoids us having to duplicate positions to pay individuals at two different pay rates. Um, it's what we have all done or what we have done in prior years. So, I will just say since today is my birthday, I'm asking for a present to give a raise to all hourly staff.
>> How generous of you. >> It's a good present. >> Are there any questions? >> Do you guys have any questions, comments, concerns? >> I don't, but happy birthday. >> Thank you. We have a Milky Way. They give me one. >> We can all give you our candy. [laughter] >> Craig fixes me. >> Okay. >> All right. If there's no questions, I'll take a motion. I move to approve the new minimum wage increase effective December 25th, 2025 as presented. >> I second. >> All in favor? >> I I >> I motion carries four to zero. All right. Somebody's on it. Okay. 10 points. discussion and consideration approval of the updated salary schedules. >> So this is just basically because you just made the approval on the minimum wage increase, we now have to change all
the salary schedules that are impacted by minimum wage. So what you're going to see is you're going to see the um the support staff salary schedule. What we did this year, unlike last year, we didn't do a percentage increase throughout the schedule. We just gave the straight 45 cent 45 cents to each each portion of the salary schedule. So that's what was reflected there. In the other two, the um extra duty stipen uh schedule and the AIA extra duty stipen schedule. Um any place that in those particular um uh salary schedules that was at 1470, we now have to move to the 1515. Uh just cautionary as we move forward. um we have not been raising on some of these hourly rates other positions especially in the AI sponsored um salary schedules. So it's probably
something we're going to have to start getting and when I first started here those people that are now 151 15 we're probably down around 11 12 bucks. They keep getting raised nobody else is getting raised but we're running into budgetary issues too. So, it's just something we're going to have to keep an eye on to see how we differentiate with some of the different job expectations that are hourly paid uh in that AIA salary schedule more than anything else. So, I would recommend uh approval as presented. >> Guys, any questions on this, >> Mr. Right? >> No. >> Okay. All right. If no questions, I'll take a um motion. I motion to approve the changes of the salary schedule for 2025 2026 as presented. >> I second. >> All in favor? >> I motion carries.
Four to zero. >> All right. So 10.7 discussion consideration approval of the district's district pres preventative maintenance statement. >> Good evening again. I would ask for your approval for the preventive maintenance reporting statement. This is distilled from all the touches and evaluations and inspections that occur at all of these buildings. These are uh based on square footage, the equipment, and this is all um monitored by the state and they generate what the minimum is that we evaluate. And then during that school year, uh we have backup data to show all the things that we've done or we've contracted vendors to come in and do. Okay. Do we have any questions on this? >> No. Okay. Then I'll take a motion. >> I move to approve the district's preventative maintenance statement as presented. >> I second.
>> All in favor? >> I. Motion carries four to zero. >> 10.8 8 discussion consideration or approval of the 2627 course guidelines or course guides for all the schools high school middle school. Yeah. >> All right. Evening Madam President, members of the board, Dr. Wyman, Miss Winger. This is just the um second read from last month. Uh those course catalog changes that were brought to you last month. Um really not much of anything significant there. The only two new courses are your coding to Um, and your other two that I'm forgetting from the middle school because my brain is tired today. Um, so just those two new courses at the middle school, the rest is is pretty status quo. >> Graphic design. Thank you. It was in there somewhere. >> It was like $44,000 worth
of them. >> Yeah. [laughter] >> Field trips. >> Yeah. Do we have any questions on these guidelines? >> No. >> Okay. So, if no questions, I will take a motion. >> I move to approve the changes as presented for the 2026 27 school year. >> Second. >> All in favor? >> I motion carries four to zero. >> Okay. So, we have information discussion items. So, 11.1 information and discussion regarding the K5 ELA vendors selected to present for curriculum adoption. >> All right. Uh so, this is just the update from um last month that we promised we would bring to you as the board. Just a reminder of our process. So, we're looking for curriculum that meets these uh essential components. Um we are now on that green box down there in the bottom left corner
of the committee review for materials to select top vendors to present their program. As you can see, they are still displayed in this room as part of our 60-day review period. Um and some of these statute pieces. So, here here's the good stuff, the interesting stuff. So um from our our um review process, these came out as the top three vendors from the ELA. Um what you see there numerically is the average score of those who participated in the process. Um so you can see we have two that are very close in terms of their score. Um we did select uh elect to include a third one in there. Uh there it's another McGraill. So you can see the McGraill has a couple of different programs. One being and the other being open court. Um
wanted to make sure that we uh gave that an opportunity even though at the moment it's a distant third still a possibility that they could uh could come out on top in the process. Um so a little bit of information about each of them is included on the slide for you and you can see that um each of them we provided you some data there at the bottom that 86% of those who participated in scoring ranked McGraill Wonders in the top three 85% for HMH and 53% for McGraill Open Court. So our recommendation is to bring those three vendors in for the vendor presentation process. Any questions on ELA? >> I have a question. >> Um Is there any way during this presentation process that we would be able to get particularly regarding McGraw Hill
Wonders and HMH interreading um key differences or similarities that are highlighted um especially regarding any phonics components or soundwall integration or any additional features. Um, so if those on the committee, they love that there's a sound wall in HMH, but perhaps there's not in the other one, if we could see some of those things to help us >> make our decision. >> And that's part of the um final data that we'll bring to you as well. Um, some of that qualitative data of the feedback and comments that are provided uh throughout the course of the process. >> Perfect. Thank you. >> Um, it's not on this slide, but I will say that we told talked about this from the getgo. We are still continuing to evaluate the supplemental materials for some of those early reading,
early literacy components. Uh just in case one of these does not fully meet that um that we would do that as a supplemental piece. So we'll bring that to you next month as well. May or may not need to do vendor presentations for those. They're a little more I would say direct in nature. Um but we are looking at those pieces just to make sure that we have a comprehensive program in place. Uh the second piece are the selected vendors for Spanish. Um you can see the the average scores there as well. A little bit of a different scenario in the sense that there are much fewer people evaluating these materials. Um so you're going to see some higher discrepancies there. Um and we did get a request to include one additional vendor in there.
Um you're going to see it on the next slide for our French request. Um I'm going to pop to that real quick. It's called CL. Um, so they'll be out anyway. We'll schedule those at the same time, but we had some scores that came in a little bit late that would warrant CLET also being included in the Spanish. So, we'll make sure that they're invited out for vendor presentations as well. Uh, better to be safe than than sorry on on our selection process. But you can see the average scores there. Um, two that clearly seem to be rising above. 75% ranked those in their top three. 50% ranked the other in their top three. French is a little more limited in even what's available. Basically, we had two vendors that submitted materials. Uh, this one
came out pretty soundly on top. Um, so at the moment, we'll probably just invite them to present um because the score was so so strong in favor of it. Um, again, one teacher teaches French and it's just a couple of sections. So, excuse that data ever so >> any questions? >> How's it going with the committee? Um, I would say it's going well. Um, these folks can answer that as well. We've had really pretty good turnout. Um, >> good. >> We've had a good number of folks come in in off hours um to review that. Um, still not getting a I would say a ton of community input. Um, folks come in and pick and browse. They don't tend to scan the QR code and comment. Okay. >> Um, but it's good that they're at
least, you know, coming in and accessing the materials. that's definitely helpful to the process and had a couple couple great community members that have have been involved in the process and gotten to see kind of how we go about the business of a curriculum adoption, right? >> Um and be able to ask those questions. So, I think it's been good thus far. >> All right. Thank you. So, that was uh 11.2 as well. So, we're going to go to um 11.3 um discussion and information on the 2425 district uh enrollment numbers. Yes, I gave you the report um last week on those uh enrollment numbers for the month. Um I as a summary real quickly, we we're probably just short of our highest highest point in the year. Um but when you look at the
individual schools, you'll see a lot of the uh elementary through middle schools going up and down, up and down, up and down. And so over time, there's not a huge difference. Uh the biggest driver right now for us uh is uh CCS is is pulling extra kids. Um but it's good news that the last two months we've gone up um about 20 kids. Uh the key indicator will be what happens over the break. Two years ago it wasn't bad. Last year um it was a bigger hit than we had we had anticipated. Um but so overall um it's kind of trending where we thought it was and trending towards what we built our budget on. And so I'll be happy to answer any questions, but overall um we'll just keep bringing the information and then
hopefully it'll match uh with what Rick does with applied economics. >> Right. Okay. Um so 11.4 discussion information on the board organization that we have to do next month. Correct. >> So you don't Right. And and so basically the law only requires board organization on the January after an election uh of board members. So there was no election of board members in November. Um so although that's what's required in the law generally speaking across the the state uh is there's generally a reorganization every January in our case uh there is a little slight change in our policy um just based on what the law says. The law says you got to have a board president. We also have a clerk. The law doesn't speak to a clerk or a vice president but normally we would
go ahead and uh select both a president and a clerk. And so we'll continue with that, make adjustments to our regulation policy as as needed. Um, and so, uh, this is just to let you know as you think about it that next month we'll come in and the very first thing we'll do is is determine who's the president. >> We usually do at the end of the agenda. >> Yeah, we I mean, well, at the end of the >> We'll do put at the end. I meant first thing, meaning in January. Yeah. Okay. Okay. We'll put it at the end. >> Yeah, please. >> All right. just because it's weird to to do that the very first and then have to switch places and then start over. It's kind of a it's kind of an
odd thing. Um, okay. 11.5 discussion and information proposed changes to policy uh GCC professional support staff bereavement leave. >> This is just a simple change. Uh back in June, we we had to talked about uh the situation we've had with several situ uh several individuals over the years where they might have multiple deaths in a family within a single year. And the way our policy read, it did not allow uh the individual to take briement leave if there was multiple deaths. They would only get to use it once. So, in the process of making that change and expanding the definition of what immediate family means, we missed two components of it. Uh, and we've had a couple situations this, uh, fall where it is impacted staff. So, I'm just bringing back for a read and
then an approval in in January to add a father-in-law and mother-in-law in into the no, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, excuse me, into the policy. uh we have I think it's three or four people that this impacted. What we'll do is if you approve it in January, we'll go back retrally and and give them back their their either sick leave or personal time, whatever they took, um and counted as bereavement time. But that was just an oversight on our part. So, uh, just bringing it back to make sure that our intention is to help those those employees that may be dealing with a difficult situations that we're not getting into conversations about what really counts as a reason for them uh to miss a day. >> Okay. Now, I'll come back next month. >> Yeah. >> Okay.
All right. So, that concludes. We are going to um I'm going to make a motion to move into executive session pursuant to ARS 38-431.03A1 03A1 for discussion and consideration of superintendent performance evaluation um and performance pay at 626. >> Second. >> All in favor? >> I motion carries four to zero.
