[Music] Hi, my name is Andre Reyes and I'm the principal at Madison Rose Lane Elementary School and we offer the visual and performing arts signature program. We offer art, music, dance, theater, and we also offer PE. The visual and performing arts signature program at Rose Lane focuses on giving a foundational skills for each of those areas. So making sure kids really understand what theater is, what art is, what dance is, and then all the varieties that go with that. And then as they get older and they stay, then we start honing in on the skills and the techniques that they need to kind of be independent creators in their different areas. The visual arts program has been absolutely amazing. I think it's really involved. I think the teachers are all so great with the kids

and so encouraging. My child went from almost not wanting to perform in her kinder performance because she had stage fright to being bold enough to audition for the talent show this year. So all in all, I think that that speaks so highly about all of the teachers involved in the visual art program. Our signature program here at Rose Lane is so empowering to see. I um just recently attended the Rosane talent show and I'll remember students that I've had in the past that boy or that girl were so shy yet they're given the opportunity to be on stage and whether it's music or art you just see a whole another side to their little personality and that true students feelings and skills and talents come out in a different way and that's what's so great

about our signature program. My favorite thing about being at a visual and performance art school is you can have multiple options. You can be the main character, you can be the side characters, you can be the people that design the stage. And then in music, you get to play all different types of instruments. And every year, each grade gets to have a performance with all the things they learned. and we get to show our parents what we've been working on. >> In music class, students are going to be presented with opportunities to learn how to read music. They're also going to have opportunities to play different instruments. We focus a lot on recorders, the xylophones. Um, there's opportunities for piano and strings as well. I run the Rosane Children's Choir. It's my after school program.

We rehearse a couple of times a week and we get to do some fun things. We perform at school events like the fall festival and I also uh do a community outreach with the choir. A couple times a year we go out to places like retirement communities and we put on little concerts for the residents there. And uh that is a nice way to kind of tell the community that we're here and that we'd like to spread some joy with our music. By the time they're in fourth grade, if they've had music with me consistently, they should have a good rudimentary knowledge of reading rhythms and treble cleft staff. When students are in art, they're going to be exposed to the basics of art and the different mediums. Um, in the upper grades, they're getting

things like 2D art and 3D art. In the lower grades, they're really focusing on just learning how to use those art tools and really getting some chance to just discover, you know, what art is all about. >> They're given a lot of freedom in here. Most of the time, I say if you can reach it, you can use it. They find really unique uses for anything that they can get their hands on. And so, the creativity is just endless. My favorite special at school is art because it just makes you feel like you're just like in your happy place. For me, >> in theater class, students are going to get opportunities to do set design. They're going to focus on collaborating in groups to practice, you know, dialogue, delivering lines, stage presence. >> Um, theater,

we get to like make like scripts and like puppets, and sometimes we get to make our own like stories. Throughout the school year, students have the opportunity to explore a variety of different dance styles. We look at jazz, ballet, hiphop, tap, yoga, creative movement. Students have the opportunity to decide what they are interested in. One of my favorite projects that we do every year is our choreography unit. Students get to take all of the dance knowledge and skills that they've been working on in different styles and they get to combine it into what they want to choreograph. They get to pick their style, their music. They do an element of costume design and it's just so fun to watch their creativity. >> The major goal at Rose Lane is to make sure students are getting

an opportunity to really showcase the work that they have done in the visual performing arts classes. For our kinder through 4th grade students, they all will get an opportunity to perform at the Madison Center for the Arts. We have choir performances that are scheduled throughout the school year. We have an afterchool media club where students can film our daily announcements. We also have a dance club twice a year and both of those will end with a dance performance for families. We have a talent show at the end of the year and then we also have an art showcase where students can again just show off all the things they've been working on in their art class for their grade level. The teachers at Rose Lane know that we need to go above and beyond for

our students here at this campus. They really come here with the belief that all students can succeed. Ever since kindergarten, the teachers at the school have been really, really kind and nice, and I can tell they just care a lot about their students. >> We can only do so much at home. So, the fact that we have great teacher partners that we can count on to continue to encourage and help us build that confidence in our children is exactly what we need. My favorite thing about Rose Lane has been the community that we've built. I am now part of the PTO and I spend a lot of time here. So, as much time as I can um as a working parent. Rose Lane is special because I think primarily of the community that we have

where people come and they stay. So, we have a lot of generations of families. So, I went to Rose Lane and now my kids go to Rose Lane. I've had so many siblings where I have every single one as they go through the years and I look forward to getting the little one who was just in a stroller when they came to an art show and then now they're 5 years old and in my art class. >> One of the exciting things coming to Rose Lane is that we are actually in the process of a new school rebuild. And with that rebuild, there are a few changes that we'll be making to our program to just increase the the opportunities we have for our students. We are going to be providing theater across all grade

levels. One of our big moves for next year is to have more opportunities for our parents to come onto our campus and get to see some of those performances. Um, or having students in the older grades performing for some of our younger kiddos. Any family that's considering enrolling their child at Rose Lane is making a great choice. All of the teachers here are great. Principal Reyes has been amazing. There's community to be built here. So there's tons for your child to go ahead and learn and gain from this uh amazing school. So I would highly recommend Rose Lane. Rose Lane is just one of those schools that like will just stay with you as a memory forever. [Music]
