[Music] welcome to Madison Camel View hi I'm CJ Smith principal of Madison camview camel viw is the home to the Madison School District's signature steam program and serving our kindergarten through fourth graders in their steam Journey which is all about connecting learning for kids Ste stands for science technology and engineering art and math when you think of steam I think where I really make that initial connection is around connecting across crcular areas and what it really does is it helps kids find purpose for their individual content areas because as we cross them and make those connections we've increased the relevancy for students and we've increased the answer to the big question most Learners have like why am I learning this and so steam's able to do that the steam program at cam view is very

innovative um I think it helps them to collaborate with their peers and also focuses and assist in critical thinking I personally have a Kinder student so it's really helped him with problem solving um and it's just really great program it's very handson and it's very cross-curricular everything is integrated it's not done in silos a lot of schools use stamp uh steam itself I think adds a different Nuance because you're looking at truly including the Arts and the Arts broadly can be not only what we think of traditional Arts but the humanities how does reading and writing and the creativity part of Art in form are work together and so when you're looking at a steam school and which students would really love this type of setting it's really going to be that student who ask

that question all the time why why does that happen why do I need to know that and so when kids that want to get in and Tinker with things and figure things out from an inquiry perspective it also is a natural connection for them one of the things I find so rewarding and enriching about a steam approach in the classroom is that it really does allow us to honor the whole child and engage Learners of diverse backgrounds diverse abilities diverse interests I really uh want to take the approach that this is a safe fun nurturing space where students can take risks and ask those big questions and understand that we you know making mistakes is a part of learning and it's it's also a way we build community and grow together as a steam signature

program we have some things that are unique to us one of those things is our maker space and it's a really wonderful space where we have some free exploration time we have some Project based learning some steam challenges the maker space is a wonderful space for students to come in to design to build to test things out we have some wonderful science kits and Engineering kits for students to uh explore in the maker space is like somewhere fun it has like robots it has like you can make clay projects you can play with Legos build stuff with cardboard it's special for me I do get to work with for B and it's amazing like I like it projectly the way we brought on board to Madison Camp view last year uh project Le the way

is a program uh that really looks at integration of all of those content areas into learning and so the primary focus really is through the lens of computer science Robotics and science but math and reading and writing is integrated throughout it we do activities to build up to a the project and then from the project they give a real world problem it's very Hands-On it's very collaborative the students are talking to each other about real world stuff uh and real world uh Concepts and uh it's just really a neat addition to my classroom what makes cam view special it really is the community itself and so when we go to our students they are amazing little human beings that bring with them a variety of experiences and quite a range of diversity our families and

parent groups are loving and they care about their kids and they get in and want to support their students and we have an amazing staff that really has a strong sense of the work that we're doing and why it's important the love that they have for our children collectively as a group teachers staff even the cafeteria staff the maintenance it's it's truly something very special to see and each and every every kid here is so loved and it's such an honor to be a part of the Camel View Community all of the teachers that my daughter has had here at Camel View have just been absolutely amazing they genuinely care about her learning her education and just her overall happiness of being here my teacher is the nicest one she should get a medal for

being the nicest one Camel View is a great school you can read books from the library learn music coding art and PE reading math writing social studies and sometimes other stuff I like it because it makes my heart glow it has like almost everything you can imagine I would describe camville as beautiful and amazing one of the hopes I have for all of our students is that they believe that they have the capacity to do anything when you walk into kindergarten classroom and you ask them are you a scientist they all raise their hand if are you a mathematician they all raise their hand are you an artist they all raise their hand so how do we help our kids grow and learn and continue to raise their hand even as they get older what

I want to be when I grow up is be an astronaut to be the first go in the moon I want to be a teacher and an architect because I like designing different houses when I grow up I wanted to be an engineer because you can event stuff cam view is a great place to learn and grow and be part of and if you're interested in learning more about us uh please reach out and schedule a tour we are just a great place to be and so we hope you consider joining us [Music]
