001Hi, my name is Ashley Bohlman and I'm the Madison School District English Language Arts Instructional Coach. I just wanted to tell you about what the MVA ELA reading block would look like. Every day Monday through Friday your students will have live instruction up to 135 minutes in the area of english language arts. This is our only subject area that is done live with the teacher leading the lessons. Students will be engaged in reading, writing, and speaking and listening daily. There'll be cooperative learning structures used so students will be talking with each other and working together as they practice their fluency, work on comprehension questions, and even give feedback to each other on their writing. We plan to integrate social studies into our ELA block. At the end of each quarter, students are going to experience
002a 10-day multi-learning experience in which they're doing some problem-based learning. The students are going to be solving real world problems centered around topics that they read about earlier in the unit and these will be presented in a showcase at the end of each quarter. Your teachers will also be available to you after class each day during office hours if students need additional help with work or support. But they shouldn't have a lot of work outside of the class because that 135 minutes down to 110 minutes for our older students it's going to be the bulk of the time where students are doing their independent practice. But teachers will be available they'll be on call and students will be receiving the same high quality instruction that they would receive if they were sitting in a Madison
003classroom. They'll be using the same curricular materials, following the pacing guides, taking district assessments, and getting the same types of feedback and support that they would get at any of our schools. Thank you.
