001[Music] The visual and performing arts are important because they give students the chance to use what they are learning in the academic classroom and apply that to real life activities. Whether it's adding math into their shapes and geometry into their artwork or learning how to use their speaking skills and reading skills in theater class, it lets them use what they are doing in their regular general ed class in a different way, which I think helps them understand it more and helps them excel in school. Research has shown that students that do well and are exposed to subject areas such as music, and dance, and the arts do well academically. Because it really is a balance between the two hemispheres of the brain. And by leveraging the strengths of students we are able to see them
002take off and grow to a whole new level. The rhythm part is where mathmatics joins with music. Where we have to actually, we have to quantify these things and what students are doing is measuring time with their brains. I think that is a big deal to just kind of allow a student to learn a little more effectively. There's a work ethic, there's a perseverance issue. You may not be able to get a sequence of dance the first time you do it. That mindset or that action of continual practice till you master something gets translated back into the classroom. My favorite thing about Rose Lane is seeing our students shine. To see our students take their talents to a whole new level. We really all take a very community effort to put all these kids through
003school and to make sure they are getting what they need. So it's a big family here. I love the excitement and the enthusiasm of the students and the faculty here, it's amazing! It's palpable! My students are like the band, ya know. They make the sounds and I kind of direct them and they do a great job! They never let me down, that's for sure! My favorite thing about Rose Lane is the math and music. I just really like music, how you can learn how to control your voice, sing new songs. You get to be creative with like art, and dance. You can learn a lot and it's really cool that you get that opportunity at school! [Music]
