The class of 2026 saludiatoran Donnie Patton. The class of 2026 validictorian Leah Heinman. And giving our fourth speech this evening. Please join me in welcoming our student body president MJ Roel. Thank you, Miss Kaufman, for that introduction. Good afternoon, friends, family, faculty, and the graduating class of 2026. My name is Maros Francisco Jr., but many of you know me as MJ, and I have had the honor of serving as your student body president this year. I would like to take a second to thank everyone who is
here, who has made this day possible. We all wouldn't be sitting here without you, so thank you. So, last month, I was up procrastinating writing my application to be a junior counselor three days before the deadline. And in the application letter, they asked about my future and what I was going to do after high school. And that's when I answered, and I quote, "In terms of my future, I've been admitted to the Honors College at Arizona State University. However, my path to this decision has been complex. As a Tucson native, I once felt that attending the UOVA was expected of me because it represented home. However, I've come to realize that home is not something meant to stay in one place. It is something that can be created, carried, and shared wherever you go." At
the time, the answer felt like it was just about college and my future. But looking back at my response, it was about something much bigger. It was about understanding that home isn't where you stay. It's what you build with the people around you. And that's what these past four years have really been about. Building something together. A community that supports us, challenges us, and helped us grow into who we are today. Because if there's anything I've learned, it's this. Community is key. And I will say it again. Community is key. As we all go off in our own directions, wherever life decides to take us, we have to remember what got us here. For many of us, myself included, I can confidently say that a huge part of why I'm standing here right now is
because of my community. My community has become my home. Not just because of the clubs I joined or the teams I was a part of, but because of the people within them. They believed in me, encouraged me, and show me the kind of impact one person can have on another. Through them, I realized that community is not something that simply exists. It's something people choose to build every time someone shows up, reaches out, or makes others feel seen and valued. And that's a powerful thing about community. It doesn't just stay in one place. The kindness, support, and connection that we create travels with us wherever we go. So graduates, as you move on to this next chapter, don't just for look for communities to belong to. Be the person who helps build them. Be the
one who welcomes others, encourages people, and creates spaces where others feel that they matter. Because somewhere along the way, another community will find you, and it will grow stronger because you chose to show up for them, too. Before I close my speech, I have a couple special recognitions to talk talk about. To my sister Mia, you've gone through life one step ahead of me, figuring things out as you went. You didn't have an older sibling to guide you, yet you face everything with courage. Thank you for being brave first, for showing me that I can and that it's still possible to move forward. To my mom, thank you for sacrificing so much for me and my sister. Thank you for your unwavering love, your endless support in everything we do, and for always being the
heart of our home. And of course, thank you for making the best food on the planet. I love you more than words can express. To my dad, thank you for working tirelessly to give me and my sister everything we ever wanted. Thank you for your talks in the car, the work ethic you've instilled within me, and for being an example of what a real man is. Now, with that, it's been an honor to serve you as your student body president, and I wish you all nothing but the best in your journeys throughout life. Your 2025 2026 student body president, MJ Roel, signing out. I would now like to welcome our senior speaker to the stage, Marquez Ceron. Good evening everyone, family, friends, teachers, and my fellow graduates. When people talk about senior year, they usually
imagine something exciting, full of memories, milestones, and last. But for me, my senior didn't start that way. My classroom wasn't a desk or a hallway. It was a backseat of my car. I was trying to balance school, two jobs, late night homework, and life. just hoping I can make it there each day. There were times I hit some of the lowest points of my lifetime and unsure if things would ever get better. I struggled when I made mistakes. There were moments where I generally didn't think I was going to make it here today to graduation. And moments when everything felt like it was falling apart, but even then, I kept going. Over time, things started to change. I was able to find stability. I found a place to live with people I care about deeply.
And most importantly, I found strength in myself that I didn't know I had. What I learned this year that resilience is about having a perfect life. It's about continuing forward even when your life feels anything but perfect. It's waking up when you're exhausted. It's showing up when everything in you wants to quit. It's finishing that last assignment at midnight. Going to work after a long day and still showing up for the people who need you the most. It's choosing to keep going even when you don't know how things will turn out. And I know I'm not the only person here today who has said to do that. Behind every person sitting here today is a story of challenges people didn't see. Struggles that weren't talked about and moments where giving up felt easier than pushing
forward. But we didn't give up and we're here. And that didn't happen by accident. Happen because we kept going. Today I stand here not because everything went right, but because I kept going when things went wrong. And as we leave here today and step into the next chapter of our lives, help remember this. Life is not always going to be easy. There will be moments where everything feels overwhelming. But if we have learned anything from these past four years through exams, late nights, jobs, sports, friendships, and everything in between that is that we are capable of pushing through more than we think. So whatever life takes you next, keep going, especially when it's hard. Because resilience isn't just what got us here, it is what would carry us forward. And now like to introduce our
soltori the stage. Thank you. Good afternoon everyone. I'm honored to stand before you. When I thought about the message I wanted to share, I kept returning to the story of Ernest Shackleton and his crew aboard the ship Endurance. In the book, The Endurance, we read about a ship trapped and eventually crushed by Antarctic ice. Shackleton and his crew escaped to the ice where they faced freezing temperatures, starvation, isolation, uncertainty, and setbacks that seemed impossible. Their original mission failed miserably and yet their story became legendary. Why? Because success is not always defined by reaching the destination you planned. Some sometimes it is defined by how you react to adversity, how you lead, how you endure, and how you care for people beside you when everything becomes difficult. We often feel pressure to have our futures perfectly
mapped out. Some of us are heading to college. Some are entering the workforce, the military, or trade schools. Some have no idea what comes next. We're told to chase achievement, rankings, acceptance letters, and career goals as if life is a straight line from point A to point B. But Shackleton's story reminds us that life is rarely a straight line. The crew of the Endurance survived not because conditions were easy, but because they adapted. They stayed hopeful. They relied on one another. Those lessons matter now more than ever. Our generation has already faced challenges we never expected. We grew up during the uncertainty of COVID and through rapid technological technological changes among other challenges. We learned how quickly plans can shift, but we also learned resilience. We learned how to support each other through difficult moments.
There will be moments in our lives when we feel stuck in the ice. Moments when plans collapse, when we fail, and when we feel lost, disappointed, or uncertain. And when those moments come, I hope we remember the lesson of the endurance. Progress is still possible even when the path changes. Sometimes courage looks dramatic, but more often courage looks ordinary. It looks like getting back up after rejection and putting one foot in front of the other. It looks like helping a friend who is struggling. It looks like continuing to try when success is not guaranteed. Shackleton said, "Diff difficulties are just things to overcome." I hope we carry that mindset into the future. As we leave this chapter behind, we should remember that none of us reached this stage alone. One of the most powerful parts
of the Endurance story is how deeply the crew depended on each other. Survival was never an individual achievement. The same is true for us. Behind every graduate sitting here tonight is a network of people who believed in us. parents, family, and guardians who sacrificed for us. Teachers who stayed after school to help, friends who encouraged us, coaches who pushed us, and classmates who made even stressful days memorable. Tonight is not only a celebration of individual accomplishment. It is a celebration of our entire community. Class of 2026, we are stepping into a world that will change us in ways we cannot predict. Some of us will succeed quickly, others will struggle. Most of us will probably do both. But if the story of the endurance teaches us anything, it is this. You do not have to
control every storm to make it through one. You only need resilience to keep moving, the grit to adapt, and the courage to help others along the way. Years from now, people may not remember every award we won, every grade we earned, or every title we held. But they will remember how we treated people. They will remember whether we showed kindness during difficult times. They will remember whether we gave up or just kept going. So, as we leave here tonight, I hope we choose to be people who endure, people who lead with compassion, people who remain hopeful and uncertainty, people who keep going even when the ice closes in. Congratulations, class of 2026. We made it. Thank you. I would now like to welcome our valadictorian, Leah Heinman. Thank you, Donnie, for that introduction as well
as for showing us all what it looks like to successfully use chat GPT to write an essay for you. That was good. >> I'm just kidding. We recently lived through something historic, the Artemis 2 space mission. You may have seen videos of the four astronauts circling the moon and taking pictures of the Earth from afar. But before Artemis 2, there was Apollo 13. If you don't know the story behind NASA's Apollo 13 space flight, it goes a little something like this. Launching on April 11th, 1970, Apollo 13 was intended to be NASA's third lunar landing. But two days into the mission, an oxygen tank exploded. The astronauts were forced to pile into a small lunar module, which was not made for the threeman crew. Using a little creativity and a whole lot of duct tape,
the astronauts created a homemade lithium hydroxide filter, which sucked away excess carbon dioxide and kept the crew alive until they landed back on Earth. In the end, countless people worked together to turn Apollo 13 from a tragedy to a triumph. ground control on the Earth and the astronauts up in space communicated together and turned the mission into what today is considered a success, paving the way for future missions, including the record-breaking Artemis 2. I believe that high school is our Apollo 13. Some of us entered freshman year expecting some amazing things. We might have even thought we were going to land on the moon. But there were some difficulties along the way for all of us. We each got hit by our own personal asteroid belts, knocking us off course. Or maybe our oxygen tanks
exploded, seemingly catapulting us far from where we wanted to go. But the great thing about high school is that we were all in it together. We had the most amazing crew of classmates and friends, the best ground control of teachers and staff, and the most supportive families and neighbors at home cheering us on as well. So, even if we fell into a black hole, we could rely on those around us to help lift us and remind us to find joy in the journey. I know that high school is just the beginning. We have our whole lives ahead of us, and we can each do some amazing things with the time we're blessed with. The past four years have been really fun, but I am so excited to see where we each go next. Some of
us might go off to far away galaxies in the name of scientific progress. Others might stay here on Earth tackling the most pressing challenges of our day. But no matter where we go or what we do, we can always remember high school as our training grounds, our test flight, our Apollo 13. And because of these four years, we will be able to go farther than any person has gone before. We can change the world and even change the universe along with it. Congratulations, class of 2026. We did it. Happy graduation day. Now, please join me in welcoming Miss Kaufman back to the states. Good afternoon, class of 2026. This class is incredibly special to me. You are the first graduating class that I have had the privilege of serving as principal for all four years
of your high school journey. I have watched you grow, not just academically, but as people, and your journey has been anything but typical. You entered into high school on the heels of a time when much had been disrupted. And yet, look at you now. You didn't just recover, you thrived. Over the past four years, I have seen you build confidence, find your voice, support one another, and rise to challenges. You have grown into leaders, teammates, artists, scholars, and role models. And tonight you I'm sorry this afternoon your accomplishments reflect your growth. This class has earned over 11 million in scholarships. Yes, our two national merit finalists are attending Yale and Purdue. Student athletes from this class are playing at the next level. Some of you have chosen to serve our country in the military or
serve a mission for your church. And some of you are stepping into steady and rewarding careers. That is the story of your class. Not just success, but growth. Growth is not always easy. It requires effort, resilience, and the willingness to keep going when things feel uncertain. And that is exactly what you have done. I hope you leave Mirana High School knowing this. You are capable in growth of growth in every stage of life. Keep learning. Keep pushing yourselves. Stay curious and never become comfortable with standing still because the same determination that brought you here today will carry you forward into whatever is next. It has been an honor to watch you grow over these past four years, and I am incredibly proud of who you have become. As you walk across the stage and step
into your future, don't just measure your success by what you achieve. Measure it by how you continue to grow. Congratulations, class of 2026. We are so proud of you and cannot wait to see what you do next. Before we start the celebration of our graduates, I would like to ask that each student have their special moment on the stage. Please ensure that your cheering does not cover up another student's moment. And with that, first row, are you ready? All right. Members of the governing board, Dr. Strereer, parents, and community, I am pleased to present Morirana High School's graduates of 2026. I certify that they have completed the requirements for graduation as established by the Arizona State Board of Education and the Morirana Unified School District Governing Board. 035Zider, Cadence Liliana Zuniga. >> Good afternoon everyone. I'm the honor to serve as the class of 2026 as senior class president. As I stand up here, it feels easy to reminisce on all the memories, events, or even hardships our classes faced over our high school career. But I think my time is better spent focusing on the path that lays ahead of us. Earlier this year, in my math class, a student asked our teacher, Mrs. Franks, if she had always been good at math. She quickly replied, "No. In high school, I was terrible at math because I thought girls were not meant to be as good at it as boys. I was shocked upon hearing this. Not only was it an absurd statement, but it was hard to imagine a woman at as brilliant as her
struggling in the subject I had seen her excel in. So, of course, we pushed further and we asked why she had became a math teacher if she hadn't enjoyed it in the first place. She told us very matterof factly that when she began college, she told herself she was going to choose the hardest major she could. So naturally, she chose math. For a moment, I could not fathom why someone would deliberately choose a major and career path they deemed so hard. But I soon realized the importance of that leap she took. She made the conscious decision to push herself into an uncomfortable circumstance, proving not only to others, but instead to herself, that the box she had been put in would not define the path she would take. Often times, we get so caught up
in allowing ourselves to be defined by the roles that have been put upon us, conforming to what those around us expect us to be. We allow fear to hold us back from change and growth, stopping us from reaching our full potential. But I believe true success is defined by pushing on despite that fear. Success never comes from a place of comfort. It comes from pushing yourself past what you thought possible. It comes from having the courage to take even one step into an unknown direction. It's hard to imagine that after this it's all over. We will each go on to create lives outside of one another. But it is that fear of change that acts as the driving force for what we make of the rest of our lives. I'm not asking you to never
feel fear again. I'm instead telling you you must push on even when that fear feels all consuming. Allow yourself to live in your fear. Bask in it. Let it make you uncomfortable till you're forced to adapt and grow. Because that is what living is all about. I can promise you that everything you've ever wanted sits on the other side of that fear. So take that leap. Remember your time here, but don't let it be the end. Let it be the beginning to all you're destined to become. Now, as we wrap up the ceremony, I would like to let parents and guardians know that your graduates will be meeting you outside shortly. Now, class of 2026, let's take our first leap together. Graduates, please rise. Graduates, you may move your tassels from right to left. It
is my honor to present to you the Morirana High School class of 2026. Graduates, please throw your caps. Congratulations, guys.
