I don't think I have anything to the strategic planning committee. >> You did a lot and you want to impact as a district I'm going. You just got to turn it on. >> Are you ready? >> Yep. >> Okay. I'd like to call the meeting to order. >> Can I get a roll call, please? >> Miss Mcrononeis, >> present. >> Miss Raymond, >> present. >> Mr. Alexander >> here. >> Mr. Carlson >> here. >> Mr. Hol >> present. >> Can I get a motion to adopt the agenda? >> I move we adopt the agenda. >> Second. >> All those in favor? >> I. >> Okay. Thank you. Motion carries. Can we all stand for the pledge of allegiance and a moment of silence? I aliance to the flag of the United States of America and
to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Thank you. Recognitions and presentations. Dr. frustrator. It's >> ready. Okay. Tonight we get to recognize and celebrate some outstanding teachers. We uh tonight we get to recognize four teachers that have recently achieved their national board certification. So I am going to ask uh Jana, Lauren, Charlene, and Robin to join me up front, PLEASE. So up front we have uh Jenna Akens from Dove Mountain Sea Stem K8 School, Lauren Lundberg from Rattlesnake Ridge, Charlene Proer from Roadrunner Elementary, and Robin Ule from Morirana High School. We can give a quick round of applause. So national board certification was designed to develop, retain, and recognize accomplished teachers and to generate ongoing improvement in which teachers have met the profession's highest
standards and have the knowledge and skills necessary to advance student learning. Teachers must exhibit a deep understanding of their students content knowledge, use of data, and assessments in teaching practice. The certification process requires that teachers demonstrate standardsbased evidence of the positive effect they have on student learning and align with the five core propositions. The National Board Five Core Propositions and Standards describe what accomplished teachers should know and be able to do to have a positive impact on student learning. The certification identifies teachers who meet those standards through a performance-based and peer-reviewed series of assessment components. And I can tell you the four uh teachers up here are outstanding in their field. I've had the opportunity to jump rope with one of you. Um, we just finished some Dragons Love Tacos. Um, I was, uh, drowning
in science on our visit and an incredible story that you still owe me the second half of when I was there. New version of Cinderella. Currently, we have 21 nationally board certified teachers in three nationally certified school uh, nurses in the district. Attainment of National Board Certification is one of the most prestigious and respected professional certifications available in all of K12 education. We are incredibly proud of our staff and recognize the extensive amount of work that is involved in this rigorous multi-year process. Please join me tonight in congratulating our outstanding teachers. And then we're took it and then we're going to go two rows. >> There you go. Thank you. Next up is board communication. Does anybody have anything tonight. >> I do. Good evening. I had the privilege of visiting Coyote Trail and I
read to several classrooms which was so much fun. Um I also attended the Pimac County uh co collective of school boards and superintendent as well as the final meeting of the strategic plan which I know we'll all be hearing more later. Uh, I want to wish everyone a safe and restful spring break and enjoy yourselves. Thank you. >> Thank you. Any other board member? Okay, I have some statements. Thank you, Dr. Strereer and my fellow board members. It was my pleasure to also participate in Love & Reading Week by reading to several classrooms at Coyote Trail Elementary. I also attended the Puma County Collective at Flowing Wells. I attended the monthly SASBO meeting in Sarita. I participated in the strategic planning committee and I attended the ASBA president's meeting. It's great to see everyone involved
in our district and public education and have a great spring break. Uh next up, superintendent. Oh, excuse me. Remarks from the public. Uh Riley and Annabella from Twin Peaks, would you like to come speak? Good evening, MUSD board members. My name is Annabelle Himenez and this is Riley Wright. We are eighth graders from Twin Peaks K8 and TED Ed was a new elective choice for us eighth graders this year and I'm so glad I chose it. In TED Ed, we make speeches about things that we really love and we talk about how our talks are gifts to the audience. You're talking can be about anything. For example, bullying the real you or like mine, trash, waste, and pollution. >> Art ed. Take a deep breath. It's okay. It's good. Um, so we would like to
invite you to our TED ed to our TED ed um >> presentation in April where we hope our speeches make a powerful impact. impact on our audience and they walk away inspired. May we hand you invitations, >> please. >> Thank you so much. >> Thank you. >> Okay. Superintendent comments. Dr. Straer. President Mcronis, governing board members, members of the audience, uh just want to share a couple of events that have occurred since our last meeting. Uh yesterday I had the privilege of representing MUSD at the Northwest Fire District's annual award ceremony. I was proud to represent our transportation team as they received the community service award for their quick professional response during last year's bus accident that involved the Kingman school bus on I 10. I think this is a great example of the vital
role that our team plays in the safety of our community and it also highlights the strength of our partnership with Northwest Fire. We are incredibly proud of our drivers and our support staff in our transportation department for their dedication. Also, last week uh Vice President Raymond uh talked about uh our final working session of the strategic planning committee. And while we plan to bring this group back for a formal celebration of their efforts, the heavy lifting of the plan is now complete. We spent our final session fine-tuning our goals, strategies, and some specific action steps. Several board members have been a part of this uh process along the way, as well as there's some members in the audience that have been a part of this process along the way. I am particularly proud to report
and I know that it can be seconded here that we have unanimous support from the diverse stakeholder group that was in attendance and the timeline now is to present the full draft for board review and approval as we head into the summer. Um hopefully allowing us to launch the 202627 school year with a clearly defined board adopted uh roadmap that's already in motion. And then of course we are all looking forward to tomorrow's celebration of excellence lunchon. Uh this event is one of the highlights of the year where we will get to celebrate our employee of the year award winners and 2340 scholarship recipients alongside our community partners that make our work possible. This is a true reflection of the great things that are happening throughout our school district and community. And finally, I just
want to wish our students, our staff, and our families a restful and rejuvenating spring break. Uh we have had a fantastic school year so far, and I look forward to everyone returning with the energy uh needed for a strong finish to our fourth quarter. And this concludes my report. >> Thank you, Dr. Strereer. Can I get a motion for the consent agenda, please? >> I move the governing board approve the consent agenda as presented. >> Second. >> All those in favor? I >> I >> motion carries. Unfinished business. None. New business. Uh number J1 is uh Mr. Bogart. >> Thank you, President Micronis, governing board members, Superintendent Streer, and guests. In accordance with Arizona Revised Statute 15901, a governing board may adopt an instructional time model to appropriately capture average daily membership for students who
may not fit within MUSD's academic schedule. By statute, the district is required to hold two public hearings before adoption. This is the first of such meetings. As a reminder, currently in order for MUSD to generate funding for students, the student must be enrolled in an approved course of study taught by an appropriately certified instructor at a given time and place in the year. The district is also running an Arizona online instruction model that is limited to 85% of revenue for allowable funding. The purpose the proposed instructional time model leverages the added flexibility found in statute to collect revenue for services that is already being delivered while allowing MUSD to offer rigorous instruction to students when and where it is most appropriate. To be clear, this is not a change in our instructional or curricular models.
This is a model that will be offered on a case-byase basis to students who require additional flexibility. Examples of these situations include homebased students, long-term illnesses and suspension, disengaged and transient students, and high school credit recovery efforts. There are several delivery models that are allowable under statute, but Morirana is only requesting approval for delivery models that are tested and rigorous enough to ensure appropriate learning. These models includes direct instruction, independent learning, and mastery based instruction. As was promised at the last governing board session, included in the governing board packet are a slide deck presenting and articulating how this instructional time model will mitigate the financial losses while allowing students to grow with us, an 80 application question and mock um responses from the district as well as a draft student contract. At this point, I'd
be happy to uh hear from you or answer any questions. Um, in accordance with ARS 15901.08, this is one of our two hearings. Does anybody have any questions for Mr. Bogart? Does any board member have any questions for Mr. Bogart? Okay. So, this isformationalformational only and there is no action required tonight. On to J2. Miss Rey, >> good evening. >> New high school courses. >> Good evening, Mrs. Mcronis. Members of the board, Dr. Straer and members of our in-person and virtual audience. I feel like I'm a re I feel like I come back every time I have a few more high school courses for you for approval. Um, this evening I have four courses for consideration of your approval. I am asking for your approval for honors integrated math and honors integrated math 2. A
year ago, you approved integrated math as a course that we could utilize at the Vista campus, a course that integrates algebra and geometry principles um as a part of their personalized learning um approach. And tonight, I'm asking you to approve the honors courses for those same for those two mathematics courses. Similar to having honors algebra or honors geometry like we have at our comprehensive high schools. This would just be the honors course that our students at Vista who had a readiness level for honors course would would take. One note is that these are not additional sections. These courses, the honors sections would be offered concurrently um with the regular sections at Vista. The next course is called a capstone course. It's an elective course that would also be utilized at Vista. It would be the
equivalent of a 1.0 elective credit and students would work on their capstone during their time at Vista. And once they have demonstrated um the competencies for the capstone and in a mastery based learning approach, um students would then be eligible to earn that credit. And so there's a home room like type there's a home room like course that currently exists where students work on a lot of different things and one of those is their passion project and so it would be um action researchbased a lot of data and um research would go into the project and it would definitely be a project um and a problem that students would like to explore to further develop their critical thinking and problem solving skills. Um the last course is a course that we actually that you all
actually approved at the December board meeting uh advanced placement business with personal finance. I think days after the board meeting we found out that the state had provided us with a crosswalk to the fourth year math essential standards. And so we're just rebringing it to your attention so that we could count this course as a fourthyear math course. and we have certified that the essential math standards required by the state of Arizona are embedded within this course. Thank you for your consideration. >> Can I get a motion? >> I move the governing board approved the new high school courses as presented. >> Second. >> Any questions? I have a question. Well, where where will these classes courses be um offered? >> So, once approved, they could actually be offered anywhere for next year. The honors
integrated math courses would just be implemented at Vista concurrent with the integrated math courses at play there. The capstone course again could be anywhere, but it's going to be implemented at Vista next year. And the advanced placement business with personal finance course, I do know that the intent is to offer it both at Vista and I know that we are the last time I was able to check with our high school principles that there was going to be at least one section of this offered at Morirana High School as well. Thank you. Any other questions? All those in favor? >> I >> Thank you. >> I >> motion carries J3. Uh Miss Harper, this is uh hiring schedules. Good evening, Miss Mcron, governing board members, Dr. Streeter, senior staff in the community. Hiring schedules for
teachers and speech language pathologists for 2627 are attached. Also attached are the ancillary stipened extracurricular and coaching placement schedules. The new forms of certificated employee contracts for teachers are attached for your review as well. Those include teacher contract 10, teacher contract 11 um tied and teacher contract 14 which is year end. Extracurricular contract and the volunteer coaching contract are also included. Also um for your review is the certificate uh roster of the certificated personnel to whom we intend to offer contracts to for 26 and 27. >> Can I get a motion? >> I move that the governing board approve the teacher speech language pathologist ancillary stipen extracurricular and coaching position salary and placement schedules as presented. I further move that the governing board approve contract forms as indicated in the attached exhibits. I further move
that the certified employees identified in exhibit A will be offered a contract for the 2026 2027 school year. Can I get a second? >> Second. >> Any questions? >> Okay, no questions. All those in favor >> I >> motion carries. >> Um do you have adopt you have more adopt forms of teachers, speech, language pathologist, extracurricular volunteer and coaching position contracts. >> that was all included in that. >> That was that one. Yeah. >> Okay. Then that's everything for you. So now we go to J4 and that is I've got nothing in my system for J4. >> Oh administrator and exempts >> hiring schedules for administrators professional non-eing and exempt employees for 2026 2027 are attached. Um the new forms of administrator contract, administrator and exempt employee contracts are also attached for your review. And
the roster for um those we intend to offer contracts to for administrators and exempt employees are also attached for your review. >> Okay. Can I get a motion? I move that the governing board approve the 2026 2027 hiring schedules and contract terms for administrators, professional, non-eing, and exempt employees. I further move that the governing board approve contract forms as indicated in the attached exhibits. 021governing board, Dr. Streeters, senior staff, and all in our audience. The school facilities division is currently seeking approval for a formal reduction in square footage for the removal of three buildings as well as an increase in square footage for the construction of the new building on the Ironwood Elementary campus. The square footage of buildings U number 107, 1008, and 15 is recorded at 1,876 square ft each, resulting in a total reduction of 5,628 square ft. The building served elementary school grades and the conclusion of their service life necessitated the removal of the structures to facilitate the construction of a new building on site within the footprint of the demolished buildings. The new building that includes eight classrooms and two restrooms is now a total of 9,360 square ft. I'm available to answer any questions. >>
Can I get a motion? I move that the governing board approve the reduction in square footage for the removal of three buildings as well as an increase in square footage for the construction of the new building at Ironwood Elementary School. >> Can I get a second? >> Second. >> Any discussion? >> I have a question. Do we pay any kind of property taxes or anything like that on our square footage? >> I don't know. >> No. >> Thank you, Mr. Carlson. No, we do not. >> Thanks. Any other discussion? All those in favor? I >> I >> Mr. Alexander >> I. >> Thank you. Motion carries. >> J6. Discussion of formal decision regarding second incentive retention statement. Mr. Bogart. >> Thank you, President Mronis, governing board members, superintendent Strereer, and guests. Um, as a result
of negotiations with the Marine Education Association, administration must make a decision on whether or not there's sufficient funds to award the second retention stipen. That decision must be made by the end of March. I've done those calculations and found that we have sufficient revenues to support this incentive stipend. Happy to answer any questions if you have them. >> Can I get a motion? I move that the governing board determine that s sufficient funds are available to pay the second retention incentive stipen of the 20 2526 fiscal year to all eligible employees. >> Can I get a second? >> Second. >> Any questions? All those in favor? >> I. >> Motion carries. >> J7 discussion and approval of additional staffing. Miss Lancelot. >> Good evening, President M Cronis, governing board members. Tonight, I too bring before
you another request for additional staffing. The first is for an adaptive cluster teacher effective immediately at Gladen Farms due to the increased enrollment in that program. In addition, we're requesting the following new staffing for next school year. Morirana Middle School, an intervention specialist, Tangerine Farms K8, a half-time associate principal, halftime electives intervention teacher, and a music teacher. Uh J8, Miss Lencila, discussion approval of Arizona teacher residency memorandum of understanding. >> Thank you. Last year, Dr. Strereer and I were made made aware of this amazing opportunity through the Northern Arizona University. It is called the Arizona Teacher Residency Program. It is a 2-year program. It's a graduate
program accredited that allows students with a bachelor's degree but not an elementary certif certificate to get a master's degree at no cost in two years time in year one of the program. They act as a student teacher where they're paid a cost of living stipen through Americanore and provided medical insurance. These two things are a huge uh deterrent to student teaching because people have to quit their jobs to do this or take leaves of absences. And uh the second year they are actually a teacher of record and at the end of the second year they've earned a master's degree tuition free and a K8 standard elementary certificate. Uh we already have one current employee interested in pursuing this option for next year and we're asking for your approval tonight. This agreement has been approved by
legal counsel. I'm happy to answer any questions you have. >> Can I get a motion? 028participation from four public school districts in Pimac County as they conduct an evaluation of their stipen program. youth on their own enrolled students are eligible to receive a monthly stipend of up to $400 uh based on attendance. Uh the stipend is a tiered system where if students attend 85 to 100% days of the month, then they earn that $400 stipend. Using data from the 2324 school year through the 2627 school year, they are hoping to determine youth on their own is hoping to determine that the stipen program improves student attend attendance and academic performance in the classroom as outlined in the data sharing agreement attached to this board item. We will share three sets of data if approved with youth on their own in Chapen Hall. The three sets are data of students enrolled in
Youth on Their Own. Uh students identified as homeless or unstably housed, that's Mckin Vento, um and then all other students. Data will be collected for 8th through 12th graders, um only for the following years, 23 24, 24, 256, and 26 27 next year. All data shared will be furpa compliant meaning we will uh strip all identifiable markers um from the data uh in which uh is documented in the data sharing agreement. Uh this data sharing agreement has also been approved by our district's legal council. >> Can I get a motion? I move that the governing board approve the data sharing agreement with youth on their own and chapen Hill Chapen Hall Center for Children. >> Can I get a second? >> Second. >> Any questions or comments? >> Have a question. >> Yes. >> How

Uh this year we have about McKenna Vento uh about 34 or excuse me 209 uh McKini Vento students about 30 30 to 35 that are identified as youth on their own. >> Okay. And is that 200 >> um about the same year-over-year? Do we have about 200 every year? >> Uh that's a great question. And I believe it's pretty consistent year after year. I'm getting some head nods from my phone of friends. Thank you. >> Okay. >> Sorry, the experts. >> All right. Okay. Thank you. >> Thank you. >> Any other questions or discussions? All those in favor? >> I >> Thank you. >> I >> motion carries. Uh Dr. Strereer J10 discussion and approval of the 2026 2027 governing board meeting dates, times, and locations.
