I would like to call to order the Board of Education meeting for Monday, April 27th at 7:10. Please rise for the Pledge of Allegiance. Quietly, quietly. Silence. All right. Roll call of these. William Brady? Here. Here. John Hickey? Yeah. Okay. First we need to amend the agenda. So I make a motion that the agenda be amended to add item 7 up, overnight trip request for varsity baseball. I'll support it. It's supported. Um All in favor, say aye. Aye. Opposed? All right. That motion carries. Um And then we'll get started on our presentation. Okay. Um It what's kind of become an annual tradition honoring our excellence in our wrestling program. Um just another great opportunity to honor another great group of student athletes that have come through here. And tonight's very special too, because tonight um,

as our employee of the month, I do want to make sure Brian Ranger gets credit for a lot of the things that he does, but he probably doesn't get nearly as much credit as he deserves. If you work with Brian, and I work with Brian, it's a lot different than as a student and as a counselor in the school and as a wrestling coach. It takes a special person to come with the energy that he does day in day out. The things he's done for our kids, our student body, has been epic. It's just the things touch so many lives and I I really appreciate it. You probably don't get to tell them that enough. And so, today when Brian's going to introduce his team and their great accomplishments, I want to recognize Brian as

our superstar employee. And so, Brian, come on up. >> [applause] >> After the intro. All right. So, my friends, uh, it's a little show and tell too. So, you guys can bring those trophies up here in front of those chairs. And then, all the wrestlers come up a little closer. You, too. All right. Just put them down and then just come back over here. All right. Thank you, Al. Appreciate it. Um, when you said sort of April's kind of the sweet spot, uh, wrestling season ends usually beginning of March for high school. Uh, youth continues until about spring break. Uh, usually every year I have to ask them to leave on spring break early to go to sunny Kalamazoo and, uh, finish off the season with the with the Mat Rats. So, uh, just really

appreciate, uh, you know, him always being all the admin and just this whole community for just sort of getting behind us over a decade ago and uh, we've been rolling since. And I'm going to read off some pretty impressive stuff about this year's squad and uh, we'll talk about high school team and then, uh, I will we're just going to keep reloading and get the, uh, youth in the high school and and keep uh raising the bar a little bit higher. So, um let's start first with uh the people that aren't familiar with wrestling, I think you can appreciate this maybe even more. Um students, right? So, uh we for the eighth year in a row have been uh named team academic all-state. So, our our cumulative GPA this year was a 3.85, which is

the uh third highest in Division II. Um so, we you basically you accumulate that from your 14 highest GPAs. Uh they don't allow us to count any of their over 4.0s. Uh so, we had six wrestlers with a perfect 4.0, two more 3.9s, uh you know, all the way down to like a 3.5. So, our 14 highest GPAs came out to a 3.85. So, again, that's the third highest. This year we uh are up a division, we're in Division II. So, that's like schools with like a thousand students, 1,200 students, that thing. Um so, third in DII for grades. So, uh student athletes. So, one round of applause for >> [applause] >> Uh if you're here, I'd love these guys to step out a little bit. Uh five of our wrestlers were named academic all-state,

which you would have to be a state qualifier. Um so, you had to make make it to Ford Field, and then there were certain uh GPA criteria. So, like a senior had to have uh above a 3.4, a junior had to have above a 3.5, a sophomore had to have above a 3.6. So, if I say your name, please step forward if you're here. Uh Jack Reyes, Jasmine Walker, Julian Walker, Vincent Finn, and Nate Clements. So, a couple of >> [applause] >> Both called academic all-state, uh it's pretty cool honor. Um and then, uh in our graduating class, uh there's always a cool thing, the top 10, right? So, I'm not a math guy, but it's close to a third. 1/3 almost of the top 10, so it's three of the top 10 graduating uh

seniors were on the wrestling team, Jasmine, uh Julian Walker, and then Jack Reyes, take another step forward. And then, Jack step forward. a little bit more of a lighter stuff. Uh but Jeffrey was named our Bryson best for this year's graduating class. So, uh academic all state, individual all state, senior captain Jeffrey has and all these guys were the greatest year. >> [applause] >> All right. So, uh this year the high school team, so we give you a little show and tell. Um I had uh we do have a trophy up there for the girls team. So, a lot of our athletes are playing other sports right now, track, tennis, soccer, baseball. So, uh unfortunately couldn't get them all here tonight. Um but we did have eight members of uh our basically our first actual

girls team. We've always had a girl wrestler here or there, but never like a team. So, this year they went to uh full schedule tournaments. Uh we had to get creative with kind of the coaching because their tournaments were usually the same days as the boys. Um but we wanted to make sure that they were provided, you know, just as much uh opportunity to compete as as the boys did. So, the girls had a fantastic year. Our biggest girls team in school history. Uh they won the Macomb County invite on the girls side as well as the boys side. Uh a lot of success. You know, I'll talk about Jasmine a little bit later taking fourth in the state. So, again, our girls team um it's getting bigger. You'll hear me talk about some of

these middle school age girls. Um so, if you have any uh girls in the school district if they want to learn how to wrestle, it's not just the fastest growing sport in America, it's one of the fastest growing here in Algonac. So, girls team had a really great year. The boys team, uh so that trophy that's one of the biggest of us wrestlers, uh that's um that's the Macomb County trophy. It's a traveling trophy. You got to give it back every year, but we've had it for 2 years cuz we won it 2 years in a row. Um that's 40 schools. We're the smallest school in the history of the tournament to win it. Uh we've grown pretty attached to it. Um it's too big, it doesn't really fit the showcase. We usually keep it

in my office or the rest of the room. So, we'll be trying to keep that again next year. Uh we were ranked in the top three in division two all year. Uh this was the first team to make it back to the final eight in the state in a couple years. We lost in the state quarterfinals. Over the last 5 years, uh which again most of these seniors have been here for a good chunk of that, 164 wins against only 16 losses. Uh BWAC champions multiple times. BWAC runners-up this year. Uh undergoing a uh new challenge next year. I was talking to uh one of the board members earlier about this. Uh moving to the MAC, right? So, we've been talking about that for our sports. Uh pretty exciting. Uh we were uh notified that

we were approved to go to the MAC Red, which traditionally is the toughest conference in Michigan when it comes to sports, depending on the sport. So, uh pretty excited. Uh we've been wrestling Dakota and Romeo and Warren Mott Tower the last few years. So, why not make it official and and beat them in the MAC Red? So, hopefully uh next year uh we'll bring you a a MAC Red championship to show off as well. Um but we were named team of the year for winning the trophy and then advancing to the state quarterfinals. Um so, again, just really proud of the uh the overall collective, you know, as a team in the classroom and on the mats, too. And then uh obviously we had some success uh individually. So, I'm going to read off your

names. Uh when I say your name, if you qualified for Ford Field, you got to take the you got to take the handshake tour, walk around. And then on the flip side, um you Ford Field people were uh also superstar students of the month with me. So, okay? So, when you come back, Nate Clemens is going to find you. Captain Nate's going to find your All right, here we go. So, uh I don't think she's here tonight. Busy. Um but uh Jasmine Walker, uh she had a fantastic career. She's going to end up finishing uh her career as an All-State wrestler, fourth place in the state this year. Jasmine Walker. Trevor Gardner is here. So, Trevor's going to walk around. Trevor was sixth in the state as a sophomore. >> [applause] >> One neat thing

about Trevor, he finished one win one pin short of the all-time pin record. Uh some of you guys know Joe Beelen. So, Trevor's chasing down Joe Beelen's pin record. So, that's a pretty big name to chase down. So, Trevor, very good. Uh Christian Brown. Christian Brown, seventh in the state. Christian had a great season. Macomb County runner-up, seventh in the state. What weight did you go, Christian? 126. I'm going to forget. 126 lbs. He's a blood sophomore, he's sophomore. Couple more years. Christian Brown. Followed by his brother, AJ Brown. >> [applause] >> AJ took eighth in the state this year. So, both Brown boys on the podium. Sad that he's already got to leave us cuz we just got him. But, AJ's planning on taking his wrestling talents and his academic talents to Olivet University

next year. So, Olivet wrestler, AJ Brown. Uh these next four were state qualifiers, but again, we stepped up from Division 3 to Division 2. Uh very tough competition. Uh proud of all of them. They wrestled hard, represented us the right way. And uh if they're not a senior, they're itching to get back there next year. So, state qualifier, Jack Ressler. >> [applause] >> Jack Ressler, 112. Jack Ressler, 112. >> [applause] >> And uh Joey Walker, 119. And um special shout-out on that one, Wes, since we're talking about Ford Field. We were able to transport them all thanks to uh Coach Highstreet in in the church van for the last couple years. >> [applause] >> Really, you know, when you have a dozen kids going down there, uh you need a big vehicle to transport them.

So, uh that's huge. Uh I really appreciate that, Jeff. Um and again, to make sure that uh this becomes an annual thing like it has been, uh we pride ourselves on coaching these kids up from whenever they start to whenever they finish. Got a couple seniors here tonight. Uh so, our youth club, uh one of the best in the state when it comes to just school-based. Now, wrestling is like other sports where now they have these academies and all these fancy tuition places where they're charging hundreds of dollars a month. Uh we still charge about $100 for the whole season. Uh the same staff coaches the high school team, the middle school team, the girls team, the boys team, and the youth team. So, uh we believe there's uh some continuity there and some success

that can be built through those rapport relationships over time. And uh just a fantastic youth club. Uh we had 20 uh 20 plus state placers. So, I'm going to read off a whole bunch of names. They're not all here. Uh but even if they're not here, they're probably at another practice doing something. In fact, my son Lincoln's at a wrestling practice in Mount Clemens right now cuz he uh did place this year and wants to place next year. So, always looking to get better. Uh first, we're going to start from the top in order of placements. Um so, we do have a couple that were uh state champions this year in the youth division. Uh so, first we have uh Mr. Jack Bronk, fifth grader from Mount Clemens. >> [applause] >> And then come back

and Nate's going to see if you can find your shirt. Thanks, buddy. Uh Vincent Finn entered the Myway tournament as a state champion in the Myway event. So, yeah. >> [applause] >> Uh my daughter Emma was state champion in uh MMWA, but she's at soccer today, so that's why she's not Cole Reese, fourth state champion, state runner-up this year. He is at baseball. So, Cole Reese at baseball, state runner-up. Vance Finn, state runner-up at Myway. >> [applause] >> Rocco Rocco Loiseau, he's at some practice, I'm sure. Um he's state runner-up. He plays like seven different sports. Rocco Loiseau, state runner-up. Uh Elliott Young, state runner-up. Uh we have another uh Harper actually wrestled in two different state tournaments. She was second in the state in MMWA, third in the state in Myway. So, Harper Clark

>> [applause] >> The same Clark, her sister Grace Clark was fourth in the state for MMWA. >> [applause] >> Uh let's stick with the girls for a second. Baron Finn, uh she was a double state placer as well. They like fourth or sixth in the state. Also took fourth in the state. Knox Whiteside, he's definitely in baseball. He was fourth in the state. Uh Jackson Banner, he was fourth in the state. I know we got Adrian here. Adrian Alvarez, he was sixth in the state. >> [applause] >> And there are still women in that lately. Uh Adrian's dad was my first ever state placer. So, coach dad and mom have a winning son and they're both are doing pretty well. So, it's proud of the Alvarezes. Uh Marcus Morningstar, sixth in the state. I know

Marcus is here. >> [applause] >> Skyler Small, sixth in the state. I know Skyler's here. >> [applause] >> Our Our middle school state placer, 2 years in a row, Grace Goldberg. >> [applause] >> His batch brother, Brody Lamothe-Tanine. >> [applause] >> Uh Jackson Whitley, he's in baseball, seventh in the state. Eli Alshmale, eighth in the state. She's Goldberg, [applause] eighth in the state. Um and yeah, that's that's the recipe. Uh get them to wrestle them get them good before they get to high school and then I don't have to do much and then they make me look good. So, but again, I appreciate uh again, the community support, admin support, parents, uh athletes. We have our high school banquet on Friday uh and we're going to talk about how to make next year even better.

So, thank you. This year I'm going to take my trophies. Last year I left them, so. >> [laughter] >> All right. Thank you guys. >> [applause] >> Uh Picture. [applause] All right. Wrestlers over there for a picture. Hey, help me with the trophies. With the trophies in the picture. It's going to be an exciting If you guys leave and have something better to do, we totally understand. Appreciate you. Good luck getting rid of me. >> [applause] >> They only need to I'm just going to drop stuff in my office. I'll be right around the corner. Thanks everybody for coming out. Thank you. She tried to trying to make three meetings in one night. All right. Well, we're we're here in the last week of SAT and PSAT testing. The vast majority we were able to

knock out in the regular sessions. Officially ends on Thursday, but we're we're down to just two ninth graders that we've got to catch and they're all scheduled for tomorrow, so that'll be 100% of our kids testing for the college board to set up for this last one. Uh last week we did our first bout with the WIN testing. It's the new WorkKeys online. Again, pretty seamless, worked out pretty well. We have our makeup for that tomorrow. But again, that'll end this week and then we're currently ongoing with M-STEP. Uh we finished the majority of the 11th grade students, so we're currently working with the eighth grade this week and seventh grade. Again, it's it goes pretty much to the end of May, so we have plenty of time to get them all caught up with

the kids, but uh kudos to to the counseling staff, the admin are really organized and getting these kids and having them ready to go. Uh Rebecca Herkilo, who's kind of runs the special ed at high school, has done a fantastic job of getting that organized and having those kids knowing where they need to go to get that testing. So, yeah, just a great job by the crew here at the high school. Um we had our third quarter middle school muskrat level, the blue and gold students went to Dave & Buster's last week and that was successful. Again, we got good feedback from people there about how well behaved their kids are, which is always nice to hear. Uh last Thursday was great. Our band went to Tupelo Valley and and got a number one rating

by all three judges at at Tupelo Valley. So again, uh Mr. Kubinski is just doing a great job with the band and we're looking forward to watching that continue to grow. Uh last Friday uh we had the Caring Bag Movement, which this continues to grow every year. We get more and more kids that are getting involved and to see them uh doing such a nice thing for for so many kids and just so many kids that are involved and they it's really just been embraced by the school and the students and again, it's just a great thing to see. Uh this Friday uh is our decision day celebration. Uh it'll be in the lecture hall again for students uh going to college, going to careers, going you know, going to technical school. All the students

from the seniors that'll be in the lecture hall in this Friday about 12:30 after lunches. Uh our performance art pres- uh presentation for the spring, the Mean Girls Junior, uh it'll be a Friday night showing this Friday at 7:00 p.m. and then a matinee on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Uh just found out today uh that at the Skills SkillsUSA competition in Grand Rapids that uh Andrew Ferrara earned a bronze medal in the metal machining there. So uh kudos to him. Uh Mr. Ranger beat me to it, but I was just announcing that again, Jack Ranger is selected by the staff here as the best and brightest. Uh and again, well deserved for everything that he does. He's quiet, unassuming, but uh I said he's the most respected man you'll ever meet and he said he's

just highly active. He's a great kid. Um and this is kind of neat. Uh we've we've been looking at this for a while now, but uh we've finally put the order in. We're going to have a Hall of Fame kiosk that's going to be in the athletic commons now. We're going to upload everything will be electronic now, so it'll be a People go up there, they can look at for people for the Hall of Fame. It'll have all of the graduated classes up there, so hopefully we can see all the composite pictures that we can upload onto there, yearbooks. So, it'll be a work in progress in there, but it'll just kind of nice to have that in one location, one thing. A lot of high schools are moving to it, but it's just kind

of nice that we'll have that in place. Um There will be a Blue Water Buildings Trade Fair on May 13th from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. And I know Miss Blair is organizing a field trip to that, so all the students who are juniors and seniors that are interested on are going to be be able to go to that to that. Uh we have our 10th annual NHS Color Out Cancer Run sponsored by NHS, which will be on May 16th at 10:00 a.m. And last but not least, uh the sixth grade visitation for the high school [clears throat] for the spring will be Tuesday, May 26th. Great. Okay, so since our last meeting, our Spread All-Stars, they did travel to Zap Zone for their second marking period reward trip. And next month in May for the

third marking period, they'll be heading to a Detroit Tigers game. So, they're always looking forward to that. Um also, we had a talent show. Mrs. Beeland and Mrs. Solitaire put it on. It was very well rehearsed. The kids did excellent. Wide variety of talents and um they did the birds, Ava and Aiden Bird. They have been uh seeing the talent show since they were at Hillside, so they really did a great job again this year and made it like a tribute. So, that was pretty cool. Um Mr. LaCarrie was nominated and also chosen by the St. Clair County Child Abuse and Neglects Agency as this year's Advocate of the Year, and he's going to be honored at their annual Dinner for kids sake later this week. So that was exciting also. Our PTO put on

another spring carnival. It was very well attended and a bright spot was the robotics team came back this year. So that was fun. They were in the small gym doing all their things and hopefully recruiting for some more students to start joining that. For Earth Day our third graders traveled to Goodells for the Earth Fair and also our fifth graders put on recycled art project. So they had to they had a theme this year of marine life and they got garbage and recycling and items and made different sceneries and we did a show. That was very nice. As Ryan said, we are in the middle of M-STEP testing and Algonac for the first time has tested everybody on the same day and it went really well. Zero computer problems. The building was just running really

nicely that day and very minimal makeups. Where we've been in the past it would just took two months to get through the M-STEP when we were typing test in the lab. So that has been very positive. Also today and tomorrow we're doing child safety matters and that's also from the St. Clair County Abuse and Neglect Council and they just touch on things like sexual abuse and internet safety, physical abuse, just all sorts of things and you know, let's the kids know what's okay and not okay and what you should do if something like that happens to you. And later this week on Wednesday Mrs. Degelosi will be taking her fifth graders to fifth grade camp at Howell Nature Center. So early this month Mill Street [clears throat] students attended a St. Clair Safety Matters session.

It was actually over the course of two days presented by the St. Clair County Child Abuse and Neglect Council. And like Mrs. Lestage explained, students had the opportunity to learn about ways to prevent, identify, and respond to situations like cyberbullying and different types of abuse. Um, our kindergarteners held what's now becoming an annual tradition of a royal parade as they wrapped up their Amplify knowledge unit that detailed kings and queens. We also celebrated Earth Day with scavenger hunts and grounds cleanup. We had the opportunity to once again participate in the Care Bag Movement's annual sew-a-thon and we're always grateful to be invited to that. Um, not only do the high schoolers do a great job leading our kids, but it's just a really nice opportunity for them to showcase how awesome it can be when

the community comes together and works together of all ages to support one another. Um, looking ahead, we have our end of year testing window that's opening up next week. We're excited to see growth and celebrate our continued learning. We also have a variety of field trips planned. So, our kindergarteners will be heading to Pine River Nature Center. First grade is going to Uplands Hills Farm. Our transitional kindergarten will be visiting a new spot. It's called Discovery City in Port Huron. Mrs. Humes is taking her classes to Port Huron as well to Flames Gymnastics. And then we have a couple of transition activities planned too. So, our GSRP students will take a field trip to Millsite to experience kindergarten. And then our first graders will be visiting second grade. >> [laughter] >> So, um, at the

district level, the district dyslexia team met today at RISA. Um, we're still learning more about that incoming law that starts um school year 2027. Uh, today we we got to um meet with one of the state approved assessment systems and discuss that with other districts that's coming up as well with the upcoming professional development needs tied to that law. Um, we'll begin planning PD for the upcoming year as well as looking to pilot at least two of those assessment systems um state assessments. So, well ahead of schedule so we're in a good spot right now but definitely want to stay on track. Um, we also I was also able to attend the AI um professional development today at the RISA to discuss how AI can help improve engagement within current curriculum and within the district.

So, we're really talking about what we're already using and what that might look like to help enhance some of the things that we have. It was a really great session. Can't wait to share that with our staff. Um, the district profile of graduate leadership team met again last month um to continue planning for the roll out of the initiative. We discussed branding, common language, and professional development for staff. We'll meet again in early May. We'll be moving forward. And the district ELA My Kit team um the school improvement team met on Wednesday, April 22nd to discuss current initiatives at all levels and data trends. We also looked at current instructional systems at all levels and interventions at all levels. So, it was a good day of discussion. Um, some honest look at what's going on

and some celebrations of okay, where are we going next? So, um we had representation of all levels for teachers. So, high school, middle school, elementary or upper and lower elementary. Um, and we're at that time of year where end of the year testing is taking place all over the place. So, we're starting to begin planning for next year waiting to get some of those results and moving forward. >> I just have one. I don't think anybody knows this in our district. That we saw she's retiring. You have a chance Chris has been She's been there forever. Long time assistant to the superintendents over there. So she's She has a lot of knowledge and she'll be missed. Yes, she will. Yeah, just just a couple items for you today. Ryan and Ken I mentioned the first

one that I was going to talk about a little bit too is the Hall of Fame kiosk. So it'll be right back in the commons area and it's it's really kind of cool because it'll be back by our sports area. But it's on a 75-in screen. So it's going to be nice and big and basically it's a touch screen. So you'd walk up and touch. You know, they'll have different icons. They'll connect sports and then wrestling and then you can it'll list all of our Hall of Fame people. You could you could put updated records on there. Anybody that's been inducted into the Hall of Fame thus far will be loaded into that. Like Ryan said, composite pictures of all the class pictures from as many years as we have. Yearbooks can be put right

on there. You can view page by page if you want from any year that we have yearbooks loaded up for. So it'll take a while to get all caught up, but it's going to be pretty cool and I think you know, this grads coming back or if they're you know, have kids in sports now and they came here, they could go over to the board and say, "Oh, here's a picture of me when I played this or when I played that." So it's really cool. The display is good. And just kind of excited to have that. It's it's kind of arriving piece by piece and then we'll get it up and loaded. It'll be pretty cool for people to kind of look back on that stuff, so nice little addition for our campus area for

sure. Um the uh food service contract, um if you remember a little bit from last year, that gets sent Chartwells sends that to the state for approval. So, the state has to approve it, and then they send it back, and then we have to do board approval on it. So, theirs came back approved. We just got word yesterday, I think, that that was good to go. So, um you'll have a copy of that if you don't have it already, and then we will be set to take action on that in May unless there's anything um you know, I've been very happy this year with the uh transition that Chartwells um you know, the transition from Steve to uh Aaron has just been a really it you know, as far as I'm concerned, it's been seamless.

A lot of that was due to um if Chartwells had kind of stepped up and you know, made sure we were covered in the meantime while they were looking to replace, and it's just been you know, as far as I'm concerned, pretty seamless. So, we're looking forward to another year with them. I think we've seen some some of the concerns that we had last year, they addressed, and I think we've um you know, I think they've had a strong year, and I'm pretty happy with that. So, I just want to let you know that'll be up in the next month. Uh last but not least, the So, if you recall, last time we talked, the governor had put out we knew that had put out her version of the state budget for the uh coming

year. Um the Senate and House both put out their versions uh last week, and so everybody there there's three different versions floating out as normal, and then they'll get together and start sitting down and trying to hammer out a compromise and get a good budget. Um the state or the Senate and the House budget were um a lot of similarities to the Gov's and some differences as well. Um it's it's not terrible. Like get like I mean so in a year I guess the best way I can describe it in a year when we knew it wasn't going to be good and that we weren't expecting that it didn't get worse. And so there's a little bit of that that it it's at least like a we didn't go more backwards than we were. Um

there's a slight increase in per pupil funding which is always welcomed. Um certainly doesn't keep up with the inflation rate and things like that but at least it like I said in the year when everything's been cut the education budget they've been um you know they they didn't go any deeper on us so the key to that as I've mentioned a million times now is that we need to know what that budget is on July 1st. And we've been begging and we've been Lansing talking to these people. We we need to that's the law. The law is that we are supposed to have a budget on July 1st not October like last year. It it needs to be done so we have I've been in contact with our locals and contact with we've been at

the state level on several K-12 alliances been banging on the door they know that that's important to us because like I said if you at least it's July 1st even if it's not perfect and we know it's not going to be perfect but we know what we have. And you can plan if you know what you have. If you don't know what you have it's really difficult so um hopefully they are they're at least on the right page. They they they said that they were going to have something by the end of April and they did. And so consensus revenue conference is May 15th. That's generally when they get together and really start to the conversations really start. And so, hopefully with May and June still to play with, they can get this thing done

and we'll have a functional budget before June 1st. Good. That's all I need. Are there any anything back in? Um Or like line items cuz I know they took a lot away and then they said they bumped up for people because of that so Yeah. Um They're the Senate version has a few more things that were coming. So, they've got um there is the possibility of 31 AA language changing. Okay. And so, we'll be back to language where people would want to feel comfortable using. So, that that's one thing. Um the Senate version also does a has introduced a weighted funding. So, your more severe kids, your higher risk populations are funded at a different level that you know, right now they just kind of throw a number out and everybody gets that funding. Yeah.

And so, the weighted funding actually in the long run is ideally what we would want. And so, at least that they're introducing it so even if it gets through on some level, that would be a benefit. Not as much this year but in years to come. So, So, if it gets slightly advanced, that's something we're working towards. Yeah. And that would be like that that is certainly the most logical way to do that one people Okay. Do we have any other requests? We'll move on to action items. Um we have a lot of roll calls this year as I mentioned before and any financial contracts, those sessions, things like that. We have to roll calls Get ready. Let's start with uh the floor polishing. Does anyone want to make a motion? I'll make a motion

that the Board of Education approve award the Algonac Junior High School Junior Senior High School, Algonac Elementary, and Millside Elementary Terrazzo floor polishing project to Diamond Shine Concrete & Stone Polishing in the amount of $169,000 $18. So Support. Support. I'm sorry. Yeah. Oh. The the floors that you see here have not been stripped or ground down in well I think it's probably over 30 years and maybe longer. I I These floors, when you walk out here, you'll notice there's a yellowish kind of tinge. That is not the color of our floors. Our floors are white. And you will notice a vast difference. Um Dorothy actually had um if you've ever been up to St. Clair Tech um and Dorothy cuz I said to her, I said, "Got to go and take a look at these."

They have the almost the exact same flooring as us. And you walk through there and it's a noticeable difference. And so um we started looking at it We're at a point now where they have so much build up on it that it's really does nothing. It just makes it more yellow when you do this. And so um this will be an opportunity to strip down basically go all the way down or grind down. They take it down x amount of layers and then they start over and you get down to what it's supposed to look like and go over with a layer. So um kind of exciting what's happening. >> schools? All three schools, okay, yeah. And they're um you know Millside's probably is in the best shape only because it's the newest flooring, but

but it will You will notice a difference, I assure you. And you walk into the tech and you like get If you've ever been in there, and you walked in, you can bring it I can bring everything. Notice the floors and now what I can Um what is what are they looking to have it done? Um we are Evan and I have to meet with the flooring people and there's a couple more that are on here because we're trying to coordinate our summer schedule. Um there's they'll they'll kind of move building to building, so we just got to kind of figure out a pattern working around summer school, working around them doing other projects here. Um so I'll have a better answer on when they actually do that by the next meeting for sure. Any

discussion? Well, hopefully so. Heather Arellano Roberts? Support. Jennifer Baker? Support. William Brady? Support. William Murray? Yes. John Dietrich? Support. Andrew Gulick? Yes. Motion passed. On to the roofing projects. I'll make a motion. I'll make a motion. I'd like to make a motion to approve that the Board of Education award the Albany Junior Senior High and North Albany Elementary roof projects to the lowest to the low bidder for Steam Roofing in the amount of $287,000. Support. Support. Motion And just real real quick on that, um our other roofs were done if you look out there, um Zimmer Roofing was out there. Um >> [clears throat] >> when we put the bid out, uh and and Chip Hendrick, who are our prior construction manager, it was a very specific bid. It was for Duro-Last roofs again, which

we've had very good luck with at this point. Um wanted to make all of our roofs uniform, so that was kind of some of the specifications. Got five bidders this time, which we've never got before. North Albany Yeah. Um but when we get So, we had the lowest bid and never had really dealt with them, so we checked some references. ship, um, was very comfortable with what they had offered. You know, sometimes you see that difference in prices and you the question is why and he looked through the bid, talked to, you know, did the interviews and, um, saw no reason why we would not go with that group. So, um, that was the reason for that. Did they come out okay? Yeah, they all came down. >> [clears throat] >> And and that is

for both sides and like I said, the aux gym over here. We would start to have a little bit of a some leaks in the aux gym. Remember when we did the whole high school roof, we did not do that because that section at that point was only about 15 years old or or in that area, but now that we're starting to see some issues with it, it's the last These are the last two roofs we have in the entire district and we'll be done with roofing for I I won't be doing any more roofing. Oh, you never know. I I can assure you. So, um, yeah. So, we're we're done with that. So. Any other discussion? Um, supported. Can we have a roll call, please? April Emery? Yes. John Highstreet? Yes. Andy Goulet? Yes.

Elaine Brady? Yes. Jennifer Baker? Yes. Heather Arnold represents? Yes. Michelle McCreary? Okay, so let's move on to parking lot seal coat. I'll make a motion. I'll make a motion that the Board of Education award parking lot repair project to Jerry Martin Asphalt and Coating in the amount of $96,376. Second. Supported. Any discussion? Jerry's done our lots in the past over here, local guy. Um, I'm just had to wait for him to get back from Florida to put his bid together. We're good to go, but he'll, um, we're again, that's a little bit of a, you know, we got to work around uh, Little League over at Algonquin and and and you know, a couple couple things to work out, but he's usually pretty quick once he gets in and out. He can move pretty quick

and get them done, so shouldn't be a major issue at all. Is everyone having a busy summer? Yeah, it will be definitely for sure. I think we're all pretty busy. William Brady? Yes. Well, I'm ready. Yes. Yes. John Industry? Heather Arnold Roberts? Amy Glynn? Yes. Michelle Gantz? Um do you I'll move resolution for August seeking fund renewal. I like a motion that the Board of Education approve the resolution as presented calling for the special school election to take place on August 4th, 2026. On the ballot will be a 10-year seeking fund renewal from the currently authorized military rate of 1.8397 mills. A complete copy of the resolution shall be included with the original these minutes. Support? It's supported. Any discussion? Just wanted to let you know, if you notice that's a 1.8 3 mills. It's

um Remember we did a 2-mill increase back when we ran this out three years ago. Um We could have ran it back out for 2 mills again. When looking at it, we would have to view we would have to put it out as an increase, which takes a lot more explaining than right now. We could say um renewal It is a renewal. It is basically we are asking for exactly what we're doing right now. Nothing more, no increase. It's going to be at uh and we're in a position right now where I feel the projects that we've done and what we we are out there, we are talking to community. We have a pretty exhaustive list of what we've done with that money. When you look at that list, there's nobody in this community that

can say they wasted money. I mean, they it is there are things on there that were basic needs that we had to have. Now, this one will look a little bit different. There's um this is going to be a little more stuff that you'll notice. So, insides of classrooms, locker rooms, um tennis courts, uh all these type of you know, it'll hit we'll hit every building inside, you know, redoing bathrooms, those types of things. Um you know, carpeting. We're we're we're we're dealing with things you you think about I always try to This one will be a little bit more of an explanation of These are things you almost think about like your home, right? So, if you 20 years with the same carpet and without addressing what's on your walls and and you know,

things get worn down and and our kids deserve to have a place where they can come and say, "Yeah, this is like more like home. This is what it should look like." And so, Um check your singing voice. Technology, too. Is there any Yeah. Any update technology? We will have another round. So, talking with Evan, we're probably still what we have right now. Um Chromebooks are going to be an ongoing thing here if that's the direction we're going to go in cuz we'll replace those in kind of shifts, but um you know, things like the you know, the What's that? Any classroom technology Yeah, well, when you look at like what the T you know, the interactive TVs that we have right now. I mean, that's something that we still have some years left in

these, but sometime in that next 10 years, yes, we will probably have to revisit that. But, we're okay on that for a while. Um but yeah, I I'm I'm excited about this one only for the fact that this is We did a lot of lot of stuff with what we had. A lot of good stuff, but it wasn't Nobody really notices a new roof. Right. There's a lot of stuff that was done behind the scenes. This is going to be a little bit more for when people walk in, they'll notice you like, "Oh, wow, you know, look at that classroom or look at this." And so, yeah, this will be good. We'll We'll go out and we'll hit it hard. I I figure once this May election's done so people don't get it crossed up

with, you know, what we're doing. Once May's election is completed, we'll start hitting it out there, start going around and hitting some of our community meetings, organizations, just to let them know what's coming. We'll be able to use that same approach to doing some mailings for people absentee ballots. You know, we know that the August election is going to be out there with you know, it'll be a little more popular, you know, out there with the primaries. But, um the reasoning behind this is we do avoid going out probably in May. I I'm sorry, in November. But, we will run it out there this time because I I always want to make sure that people, you know, we still have an opportunity that if if for whatever reason the message didn't get out about the

need, we can still run this up one more time, which would be the following year for me. But, I I feel very good about the things that we're asking for. Again, you know, when you're looking at our neighbors on all sides that are asking for 148 million dollars to build new buildings and do some things, and we're just asking to keep ours looking good. So, Further discussion? Roll call, please. Mr. Andy Glenn? Yes. John I Street? Lynn Brady? Yes. Nicole Emery? Yes. Jeff Weber? Yes. Heather Graham? Yes. Motion carried. So, on to the school calendar. I'll make a motion to move that Board of Education approve 2026-27 school year calendar as presented. It's part of the discussion? This first time in quite some time we got a pre-Labor Day start, but that's cuz Labor Day

is so late, but >> [clears throat] >> there was a couple couple options out there that would have started even a week earlier than that, but we'll take what we could get. So, I'm happy with where we're at. It It's It's an ideal day. It'll work out very nice and uh Kelly, it's a nice calendar next year cuz we still get out by the uh you know, earlier in June. If we started after Labor Day this year, we wouldn't be getting out until the third week of June and No. it would be crazy, which I get, so happy with it. Yep. All in favor, say aye. Aye. Any opposed? All right. Um so, our amended item. So, I make a motion that the Board of Education approve varsity baseball overnight tripping bus for May 1st

and 2nd, 2026 for a baseball tournament in Midland. The cost of the trip will be covered by fundraising and the team members' families. There will be no cost to the district. Board member It's supported. And if you read the overnight request, that was basically their's got canceled and this is kind of taking the place of that. All in favor, say aye. Aye. Any opposed? It carries. And now, um closed session. All right. >> [clears throat] >> I'll make a motion the board go into closed session at 7:55 p.m. for the quarterly review of superintendent's goals and to discuss negotiations. I support. It's part of the discussion? Roll call, please. Kelly Roberts? Matt Jackson? Dr. Baker? Yes. Dr. Emery? Yes. Lay Brady? Yes. And I might need Amy Billing? Yes. >> Hey.
