That's the only one I can find. I'm not 100% sure. That's the only James Tilton I can find on social media >> for the board. >> He put to run for minor seat. Yeah. >> So now it's just me and him are the only two that have put in our letters. >> I wonder where in Dub Mountain he lives. >> You don't know anything about him? speak. >> Nobody knows who he is or anything. I'm sorry. I think I might have >> come down there. I don't understand what you're saying. Perfect. I'm going to call the meeting order and have a roll call, please. >> Mr. Halt, >> here. >> Miss Mcronis here. >> Mr. Alexander >> here. >> Mr. Carlson here. >> Miss Raymond here. Can I have a motion to adopt the agenda?
>> I make a motion that we adopt the agenda as presented. >> Second. All those in favor? >> I Please stand for the pledge of allegiance and moment of silence. >> I aliance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for it stands one nation indivisible with liberty and justice for all. Next item is recognitions and presentations. Dr. Shreer. >> All right, you guys want to join me after? Okay, we have a we have a couple of fun ones tonight. Um, I am gonna start by asking Teresa Antifer to join me up front, please. [applause] So, tonight we're going to be honoring a couple of Miranda High School teachers this evening. Our first recognition is Teresa Antifer. Miss Antoer began her MUSD career in 2018 and tonight she's being recognized
because she is a 20126 Ambassador for Excellence by the Arizona Education Foundation. You're clapping. [applause] So, let's talk about what that means. Uh the Arizona Education Foundation recognizes uh the field of education, supports the field of education and excellence in education in a couple of different ways. One of the ways that they do this is through the Arizona teacher of the year selection process which is a fairly rigorous process very rigorous process uh in which a few months ago the top 10 in the state were announced from the top 10 the top five were announced and Mrs. Terresa Antifer is one of those top five which makes her an ambassador for excellence. So, not only is she being recognized for her outstanding work in her I'm supposed to be reading this um being out being
recognized for outstanding work in her classroom, but she will also be spending the next year as an ambassador for education as an ambassador for education in Arizona and really an as an ambassador for all of our teachers across the state. And I can't think of a better representation. So, thank you very much. So, here we go. What what I was supposed to say, Teresa is recognized for her exceptional commitment to student success and her innovative teaching practices. Her selection places her among the most distinguished educators in Arizona, highlighting the excellence within our district. As an ambassador for our excellence, Teresa will receive a prize package, some public recognition, and the opportunity to participate in a variety of professional development and leadership activities. Ambassadors serve as a voice for the profession by sharing their expertise and
advocating for educational excellence across the state. This recognition underscores the critical role the educators shape in Arizona's future and it elevates the teaching profession. So, please join me in congratulating Teresa on this remarkable achievement. Her dedication continues to inspire students and colleagues alike and we are proud to have her as a part of not just the Marina High School community but the MUSD community [applause] and then we're gonna head over here and Alli's gonna Congratulations. >> Thank you. [applause] [cheering] >> Thank you. All right, I need Tina Padingale to join me up front. [applause] So, next we get to recognize Tina Patale, Morirana High School biology and AP biology teacher as a 2026 legendary teacher. This tribute to teachers was established back in 2014 by Dr. Nicholas Clement, a longtime school administrator. The premise of
a legendary teacher is specific yet simple. Dr. Clement developed the concept based on three tenants. The ability to build relationships, engaging deeply with students, and creating high expectations. What's really cool about this recognition tonight is that it was a former student, Kiara Early, who nominated Mrs. Patentale for this recognition. Kiara shared how Miss Mrs. Patgale's passion for science and unwavering support inspired her love for biology and has shaped her educational uh journey. And I believe she's master student on top. >> Yeah. Very cool. Uh so thanks to Miss Patentingale's encouragement, Kiara has tak took on advanced courses early, pursued a career natural resources and biology, and continues to carry those lessons of not just science, but kindness and curiosity that she learned in Tina's class. Tina's dedication to her student goes far beyond academics. She
continues to mentor and cheer them on long after graduation. Her commitment to nurturing curiosity, confidence, and compassion truly defines what it means to be a legendary teacher. Kiara wrote the following about Miss Patale. Your class was never just about textbooks or exams. You created a space where curiosity was celebrated, where learning felt exciting, and where every student was seen and supported. Your belief in me gave me confidence not only in high school but far beyond. Please join us in congratulating Tina and thanking her for the incredible impact that she has and continues to have on her students. [applause] Started. Congrat congrat congratulations again to the both of you. Uh next item is item E board communication. Is there any? >> Yes. Um over the past month I had the opportunity to represent our district and
connect with partners across our community. I attended the annual governing board summit, the monthly southern Arizona school business associate officials meeting, the parent partnership meeting, and the Puma County ASBA county meeting, which provided valuable perspectives and collaboration opportunities that help strengthen our district. I also had the opportunity to meet with Sheriff Nanos to discuss school safety and explore ways to deepen our partnership with local law enforcement to support safe learning environments for all of our students. Additionally, I joined Dr. Strereer and Mr. Alexander for a site visit to Roadrunner Elementary where we had a great conversation with staff, students, and parents about their work and learning experiences. I as always I encourage our community members, parents, and families to get involved. Join your school's PTO, participate in district comm community committees, and connect with us
on our board summits. Your voice and engagement truly make a difference in shaping the future of our schools. Thank you. >> Anyone else? >> Yep. [clears throat] So, um, last month I read some remarks and for some reason the the video company had some kind of a problem and the, uh, video from last month did not get posted to YouTube. So, I'm going to read those remarks again, hoping that this month they they get it right. Um, [clears throat] so in September I was in Scotland and found out about Charlie Kirk's assassination at 11 p.m. It made me sick to my stomach as I as I spent the next 90 minutes reading all I could find. Charlie was a person whose mission was to bring light to the world. He spoke only truth and he
gave thousands the opportunity to speak their minds to him. Sadly, many people in this country consider that approach to be wicked. So he so he was silenced. But that was only for a short time. He sought to share Jesus Christ with the masses and he was very effective at it. Charlie's faith governed everything he did. He understood what the Bible says about ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. and let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your father which is in heaven. Following those commands got him killed. I know there are a lot of people of faith who work for this district. Sadly they are afraid to live out their faith because of the loud
and unforgiving opposition. To those people of faith, I encourage you to follow Charlie's lead. The law actually supports you in this as do I. This district has employees with strong beliefs and you should not feel unsupported or inferior because you are in a minority. As long as I sit here, you people of faith do not need to feel unsupported. My brothers and sisters in Christ are allowed to share that faith within the bounds of the law. And I will ensure that happens. We are commanded to be the light and that doesn't mean only among those who think similarly. So let's roll up our sleeves and do the work we are commanded to do and I will be there with you. Anyone else? >> Yes, I do. Um, I had the opportunity to visit um, Coyote
Trail Elementary, visit with all parts of the staff and the students. Um, and I want to thank Dr. Strereer for organizing these visits because it's really important for us as board members to get out to the buildings, meet the staff, meet the teachers, meet the students. Um, and I think it's a a great way for us board to get out in the building. So, thank you, Dr. Strereer. Yep. I could just add to that. Um like Katherine Mronis said, uh we we were able to visit the Roadrunner Elementary together. And just in general, my comment there is um it's a good opportunity for the board to get feedback from from the schools and from different groups, including parents and and staff and teachers and even students. Um, one thing that stuck out or stood out
to me from the visit with Roadrunner is we had a couple of groups that said, you know, we had this meeting three years ago and from the followup from those meetings, we are really proud of the difference that that was made. And so [clears throat] I think the two takeaways for me is to follow up on the feedback that we get from the groups and also just the importance of the feedback that we get because it really can drive change. And so I just wanted to kind of highlight that to everybody that I think this is a really good thing as long as we do it correctly. And I think that so far we are, but we just need to keep ourselves on track. >> If you could probably guess, I would went on a
few school sites myself. Um I board members can't be in a quorum. So three is a quorum. So I took Monday to visit four different schools. Um and I just love getting on campus and talking to everybody that I can. So, I appreciate the principles and the teachers and staff that allow me to visit um and hopefully not interrupt their day too much. Um, anyone else? No. With that being said, we're move on to item F, remarks from the public. There is one. Good evening, President Holt, members of the governing board, Dr. Streer, senior staff, and community members. I'm here tonight on behalf of the Morirana Education Association to share our districtwide MEA food drive running from November 3rd through December 18th. Our educators see firsthand the challenges many of our students and families face,
and this is one way that we can come together and help. The season has brought new challenges, but also new opportunities to show up for one another. We have a simple goal to make sure every family in our community has food on the table. We are collecting donations for three local food banks that directly serve Morirana families, the ELRC food bank on Old Father, Butler's Pantry at Roadrunner Elementary, and the Morirana Food Bank. The most needed items include pasta, canned goods, cereal, and personal care items. If you wish to join us, items can be dropped off at any school site with an MEA representative. Small acts of generosity really do add up to something powerful and we are grateful to be a part of a community that takes care of one another. Thank you. >>
Thank you. Next up is item G. Superintendent comments. >> Yes, President Holtz, governing board members, members of the audience. It's it's been actually quite a while since our October meeting back on October 2nd. I think it's one of our longest gaps outside of some of the summer months, but a lot has occurred during that time. Uh, and those things have been mentioned up here. Uh, I just want to echo some of the, uh, great, uh, words that were shared with regards to our superintendent campus, superintendent board campus visits. Uh, as as was mentioned, the first one, uh, Mr. Alexander, Mrs. Raymond, and I had the opportunity to spend the day at Coyote Trail. I want to thank our Coyote Trail team uh, back there. We were able to witness firsthand the community and family oriented
environment at Coyote Trail. Uh during our classroom visits, we were able to observe a lot of small groupoup reading instruction, some insightful math lessons, and some research for an upcoming writing project. I know that Mrs. Rei is excited to hear about the writing instruction. Uh the themes during our meetings with the different employee groups emphasized that familyoriented community and we heard heartfelt comments that included there is a family atmosph atmosphere here. This is my family. We are a family. It is a great community. Community and between the staff and our families, we are one big family. It was a great day. I want to thank the Coyote community for their continued commitment to creating such a strong uh just positive uh environment on their campus. And then as was mentioned just last week, we got
to spend the day at uh Roadrunner Elementary. Mr. Alexander, Miss McCronis, and I uh had another great day, a well planned out agenda filled with meaningful conversations and classroom visits. Saw a variety of activities throughout the day, including again small group reading instruction, collaborative math groups. We saw a music lesson. Uh we saw a really impressive collaborative team in action. Uh the sixth grade team uh talking through their their planning. Our meetings with the different employee groups as was mentioned by Mr. Alexander were an added highlight. Right. It was it was a we heard the strong theme of community that emerged in every conversation and some of those comments that we heard were the vibe is so good here. We are part of a family and we're making a difference. This is one big team
from the staff to the students to the community. The staff here is one big community and we treat all of our kids as our kids. I want to thank the Roadrunner team for their dedication and hard work. You continue to create and provide an incredibly special place for learning and I look forward to continuing some of the conversations uh that we engaged with uh uh during that visit. And then also just thank you to our community that came out and participated in our latest uh board summit. Uh just the opportunity to engage as the community school district with so many different stakeholder groups uh I think brings tremendous amount of value and and uh such a diverse uh set of voices to the table as we we look at where we are today but more
importantly where we want to be uh in the future. So thank you to our community and this concludes my report. Thank you. [clears throat] Next item is item H, the consent agenda. Is there a motion? >> I move that the governing board approve the consent agenda as presented. >> Second. >> Any comments? All those in favor? >> I. >> Next item is item I, unfinished business. There is none. So move on to item J, new new business. Item J1, discussion approval of 2024 2025 annual financial report and related submissions. Mr. Roart. Thank you, President Holt, governing board members, superintendent Strereer, and guests. Happy to present our annual financial report from last fiscal year. As a reminder, the AFR, the annual financial report, is basically a conglomeration of every account that the district holds and we
present those things to the board and to the public. It's posted on AD's website. As we went over the report, um we talked about all the expenses that we had last year. Um, brief highlights. A little over 117 million coming out of maintenance and operation. Classroom site fund left all but some pennies left over. We spend all of that out to teachers. Unrestricted capital 4.5 million. Auxiliary operations 1.4 million. Student activities 1 million. Bond 50 million. Last year we spent expensed over a quarter billion dollar and to our community 253 million. In addition, on the AFR, it articulates our assets. Um, those assets that we maintain in GFA are over $5,000 in value. We have $36 million in assets over that valuation. Um, in addition, there is disclosures on our food service program, our certified
staffing levels, and any intentionality behind carry forward dollars. With that, I'm happy to answer any question the board may have. >> Is there a motion? I move that the governing board approve the 2024 2025 annual financial report and related submissions as presented. >> Second. >> Any questions? >> I have a question. So, [clears throat] what is our um current bond balance? >> Current bond balance, Mr. Carlson, is around $15 million left to to expense. >> 15 million. Yes, sir. >> And we we spent we paid down 50 last year. 50. Yes, sir. >> Okay. All right. Thanks. >> Anyone else? All those in favor? >> I I >> Item J2's discussion approval of instruction instructional improvement supplement stipen. Mr. Bogart. >> Thank you, President Holton. Governing board members and guests. This should seem pretty familiar.
We've uh done the instructional improvement supplemental stipens for a number of years now. As you remember through Indian gaming revenues, the state uh allocates out two payments to school districts. We take those payments and then allocate that out based on the FTEEs we have. Um this goes out to all employees. This year that allocation amounts to $250 per employee prrated at their FTE. Excuse me. This is for uh certified employees only. I apologize. >> Motion. I move that the governing board approve the payment of incentive stipens related to instructional improvement compensation plans to all eligible employees. >> Second, any questions? >> All those in favor? >> Item J3, discussion approval proposition 123 supplemental statement. >> Thank you, President Holt. Governing board members, super judging guests. Very similar to the last item as is precedent in
this district um with our Prop123 dollars that are allocated into our M budget. We do a calculation based on all employees um and our allocation amount and we disperse that throughout the year and two payments. This year those payments amount to $188.17 to be paid out in December and May. Happy to answer any questions you may have. >> Is there a motion? I move that the governing board determine that sufficient funds for pro from Proposition 123 revenues are available to pay all employees $376.34 based on an FTE in fiscal year 2025 2026. I further move that this amount be paid by way of two one-time stipens paid in December of 2025 and May 2026 respectively. >> Second. Any questions? All those in favor? >> Item J4, discussion, approval of additional title one staffing. Mr. Bane.
[laughter] >> Thank you. President Holt, Vice President Mike Cronis, members of the board, Dr. Strer, senior staff. Tonight, I'm bringing forward a request to add two new support staff positions, specifically title one pair of professionals at Roadrunner Elementary. Uh, Principal Brewer, the principal at Roadrunner Elementary, uh, recently worked with her team to consolidate uh, the grade levels at kindergarten from three sections to two um, with class sizes now at 21 and 22 students respectfully uh, respectively uh, both remain within our negotiated agreement. However, even with these appropriate class sizes, there is both a need and opportunity to strengthen instructional support in each classroom. To address this, we are requesting a reorganization of Roadrunner's title one allocation by adding two title one pair professionals uh that will allow Roadrunner to maximize small group instruction, provide targeted
interventions and better meet the academic needs, academic and development developmental needs of our youngest learners. Um, again, Roadr Runner's Title One allocation can full fully support these positions and both will be entirely funded through title one resources. >> I'm here for any questions. Is there a >> motion? I move that the governing board approve the following additional staffing. Two title one paraprofessionals at Roadrunner Elementary. >> Second. Any questions? I just have a quick one. Are are we moving a pair of professional over? Are we are we going out for higher or we already have >> Great question. We are going out for higher for two. >> Going perfectly. Thank you. All those in favor? >> I. >> Thank you. >> Item J5 discussion approval policy considerations policy GDM support staff development policy J not G
sorry JFB open enrollment. Miss Lada. >> Good evening President Holt governing board members. Tonight I bring you two policies that are recommended for revision. The first is policy GDM, support staff career development, which has a minor change providing clarification regarding the number of years an employee must work for the district after being re reimbursed for tuition and policy JFB open enrollment which is being revised to reflect our growing enrollment. There are substantial changes including the addition of the following items. Beginning with the 2728 school year, a new open enrollment application must be submitted each time a student seeks to enroll in a school in which the student is not currently enrolled. That would include transitioning up to the next feeder school. The district may deny enrollment in a subsequent school year to a continuing open
enrollment pupil if it is determined that the pupil requires participation in a specialized program for which there is no excess capacity. The district may refuse to admit or may revoke open enrollment of any pupil whose open enrollment application contains inaccurate or incomplete information. And one minor change is that we will now open open enrollment December 1st instead of November 1st. These changes have been approved by legal counsel and MEA and I have consulted on the open enrollment policy changes as well. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have. >> Is there a motion? I move that the governing board approve revisions to policy GDM, support staff career development and policy JFB, open enrollment as presented. >> Sir, second. >> Second. >> Any questions? >> I just have a quick comment. I just I think
that our district has done a very good job at open enrollment especially with the increasing demands around Arizona and I am very sad that we have to do certain things to keep things um consistent for our staff but I think that this is going to be good moving forward. So with that all those in favor >> I J6 thank you discussion approval of construction contract the chase building team for Twin Peaks Ky Mr. Good evening, President Holt, governing board, uh Dr. Strereer, senior staff, and all in our community. We are seeking approval of the guaranteed maximum price GMP for the construction of a new gymnasium at Twin Peaks K8 School. The 16,500 ft facility will include a regulation sized volleyball and basketball courts, bleachers, stage, office space, storage, lobby, and restrooms. The GMP of $7,297,521
for this Semar project um represents the maximum construction price that the project will cost. The district anticipates covering these expenses by utilizing funding sources such as bond adjacent ways and civic center funds. I as well as Mike Nurvik from SPS plus architects are available for any questions. I move that the governing board approve the construction contract attached as exhibit A with Chase building team for the construction of a gymnasium at Twin Peaks K8 School. >> Second. Any questions? >> I have a just one. Um, when is this supposed to open? >> We should have it ready by the fall. So, we're hoping to break ground next month. >> Next month. So, by fall you mean August of next year? >> Yes. >> Okay. Thanks. Yes. >> Thank you, Wes. I'm excited to see it. All
those in favor? >> Item J7, discussion approval of Ironwood Elementary School footage reduction. Mr. Corroski. >> Thank you. So, in fiscal year 2025, the Morirana Unified School District undertook the removal and demolition of two modular uh buildings located at Ironwood Elementary. The square footage of the first building recorded at 1876 square feet and the second building recorded at 984 square ft resulting in a total reduction of 2,860 square ft. It should be noted that we will return in fiscal year 2026 for approval for the reduction of square footage for the remaining modules on the campus, but adding the square footage for a new building that is currently under construction um that includes um eight new classrooms as well as two full-size restrooms. The school facilities division is currently seeking approval from the Mariana Unified School
District governing board for a formal reduction in the square footage for this fiscal year. >> Is there a motion? >> I move that the governing board approve the reduction of square footage at Ironwood Elementary School to facilitate the construction of the new building currently underway. >> Second. >> Any questions? All those in favor? >> I. Item J8, discussion approval of additional staffing for Mountain View High School esports coach, Mr. Golgaski. >> Thank you. So, Mountain View High School has sponsored an esports club that has competed in Arizona Intercolastic Association competitions for the last two seasons. We are requesting the approval of the hire of a um the current club sponsor to a coaching stipen that will help and guide these participants. The total cost of for the salary along with benefits is $3,22812. Tax credit
funds will be used to cover the cost. >> Is there a motion? >> I move that the governing board approve the addition of an esports coach at Mountain View High School effective immediately. >> Second. >> Any questions? All those in favor? I >> item J9 discussion approval of Arizona Schoolboard Association bylaw change proposal and designated to submit formal vote on behalf of the governing board. Um we talked about this at a study session. It is just loading up. Um so we are going to vote on it in a public setting though. Is there a motion? I move that the governing board vote yes to approve the proposed Arizona School Board Association bylaw changes and [snorts] direct Katherine Micronis um as delegate Kathy Raymond as alternate to vote in the manner the governing board has approved.
>> Is there a second? >> Second. >> Any questions? All those in favor? I move that the governing board approve the reappointment of Miss Kathy Raymond to a three-year term as a class 2 director on the Morirana Schools 2340 Foundation board of directors effective January 2026. >> Second.
