The class of 2025 valadictorian Ella Ferris. and giving our first speech this evening. Please join me in welcoming our student body president, Matthew Rowan [Applause] Track, friends, Romans, classmates, lend me your ears. For the last time, I am proud to address you as your student body president. I would like to start by thanking everyone here, teachers, family, peers, for the experiences you've given us these past years. Everything, good and bad, big and small, has helped me get to this point, sharing my thoughts at our
graduation. And for that, I'm eternally grateful. Now, for those of you who I've had the pleasure of knowing, and I fear that number is smaller than I would have liked, you probably know that bird watching is kind of my thing. Uh, I love everything ornithological and have spent countless hours in the field hunting and searching for a modeled ball of brown feathers that's only slightly different than the surrounding balls of feathers, but has come from hundreds of miles away. I primarily do this for pleasure and relaxation, but through the years there have been some things that I've noticed that I think can be applied to everyday non-avian life. birds have been around for a really really long time and uh in that time they figured out how to be successful. Now I could talk for
hours about their beautiful plumage, their complex songs or their incredible adaptability to adverse conditions, but I won't. Tonight I'd like to discuss the existence of mixed flocks where more than one species of bird usually song birds uh associates during feeding or other behaviors and how we can learn from those. Oftent times when a rare bird has flown hundreds of miles off course it's the only one of its type, meaning it doesn't have a bunch of identical peers for which it can associate. But the local birds accept it without question, always allowing the new guy to feel safe and protected while seeking out shelter and sustenance. There's safety in numbers, so everyone just kind of views it as the more the marrier. You know, sometimes these birds are from the same genus, meaning it's like a
distant relative coming to visit. But just as frequently, there is zero relation between the species with the populations originating in vastly different locations separated by mountains, forests, or oceans. But it doesn't matter. They may not sing the same songs or have the same feathers, but they are accepted nonetheless. For birds, there are no borders, no divides, and no prejudices. And I think that's beautiful. Now, in Songbirds, I see a lot of similarities with humankind. We're not so different. Always pimping and pining to impress those around us, uh, to make ourselves seem cooler and more desirable, singing at the top of our lungs when we feel strong emotions. We've even managed to capture the ability of flight. The only difference that I can see is that we don't have feathers. So, let's enjoy too the same
willingness to glom together for the betterment of society. Now, as we all go our separate ways, whether it's to college, trade school, the military, or directly into the workforce, I want us to remember to embrace the mixed flock, whether we're the odd one out or someone else is, and rejoice at the possibility of joining one, rather than recoiling at the very notion. Now, it is my pleasure to introduce Sophia Bedoni, the 2025 senior speaker. [Applause] Hello, my name is Sophia Bedoni and I am honored to have been selected as the speaker for the class of 2025. When I moved here my sophomore year, I was embraced by this amazing community. It was this community of students, staff, and teachers that helped not just me but all of us grow. Their motivation inspired us to navigate
numerous hardships. We have overcome a variety of challenges coming into high school and over the past four years. Entering during the tail end of a global pandemic was difficult for us, getting used to a schedule and socializing with others again and being students. But despite all of that, we have flourished and achieved leaps and bounds. We have passed difficult classes, gotten through each standardized test, survived changes in friend groups, or lost family close to us. We have weathered storms, literally, and worked alongside school renovations, navigating new systems and schedules, and survived many brutal cold and flu seasons. Our class has such a special ability to adapt quickly. We have learned to get back up when we have fallen down and not give up in the face of adversity. Because we are a part of the
largest graduating class in history, we have rich diversity which lends a fresh perspective that we bring into the world. We are going to help build starting now. I am so grateful for my experience at Morirana, this wonderful community that has lifted me up and helped me. I have grown and changed with the seasons as have all of you and learned so much about myself and what I love. I have made some of my most precious and dearest friendships and memories here. Thanks to my network of family, friends, and teachers, I have learned to love myself and embrace what I am capable of despite struggling with my health. To my wonderful grandparents, mom, brother, aunts, uncles, cousins, best friends, and many more, I thank you for your support throughout this journey of self-realization. To my teachers,
Miss Davis, Mr. Winchester, Dr. Jones and Miss Maxwell. I am grateful for your guidance and helping me find my passion in the arts and CTE. Staying after school, working long weekends to finish sets for the musical or an art project last minute are some of my favorite memories. Not only were the elective teachers helpful, but other amazing teachers like Miss Davis, excuse me, Mr. Davis, Miss NMO, Miss Pierce, Miss Hunt, Miss Dunn, and countless others were instrumental in supporting the learning journey of myself and my classmates. In fact, I wouldn't be up here speaking today if it wasn't for one of our incredible speech pathologists, Miss Brown. We are prepared to take on the challenge of the ever evolving world we live in, thanks to the educators who worked tirelessly for our education and never
give up, no matter the circumstances. It is now time to take these lessons and experiences with us out into the world before us. I'm so thankful to be here with all of you, and I'm so excited to see what the future holds and what paths we all decide to take. I carry great pride and honor as do all of you knowing that we will have bright futures and lives ahead of us and that no matter what we will never give up. Please welcome the class of 2025 saludiatoran Bryce Feloff. Thank you. Hey um I would like to start my time with you with this fascinating quote from Maya Angelou that I found about a year ago. Everything in the universe has rhythm. Everything dances. Look around you. See my rhythmic movements. Hear my steady speech.
Feel your heart beat inside your chest or the speed at which your leg bounces in your seat as you anticipate your name being called. Simple rhythms echo every day around you. The Miriam Webster dictionary definition of rhythm is movement, fluctuation or variation marked by the regular recurrence or natural flow of related elements. You can even feel the rhythm in the dictionary definition of the word movement, fluctuation, variation. Not only is it in the songs we listen to, but also surrounding us at every moment. From the beating of the human heart to military chants, ocean tides, and marathon runners, the universe's dances seem to be connected by one common thread, a steady pulse. The concept of rhythm is so intrinsic to the human experience that Dr. Nina Krauss from Northwestern University called rhythms in the brain
a basis for consciousness itself. Postal workers in Ghana rhythmically hand cancel stamps and Iranian rug weavers rhythmically whistle to communicate weaving patterns. Dr. Krauss even found a link between beekeeping and language development in children as young as 3 years old. How crazy is that? Class of 2025, I want to give you a moment to stop for just a couple seconds. Clear your mind of any nerves, of stress, of thoughts running through your head. Count how many rhythms, how many steady patterns you see, hear, or feel around you. You all have felt rhythm in integral parts of your high school experience. Whether it's your pencil tapping with a steady tempo during a quiz, or your metronome clicking consistently as you practice the cello, or your feet hitting the track as you prepare to leap over your
first hurdle. As you throw your caps into the night sky and wave farewell to this chapter of your life, you will encounter rhythms you've never experienced before. Maybe you'll join an a capella group in college and start matching your rhythms with other singers around you. Or maybe you'll code with steady clicks of your keyboard. Or maybe you'll talk faster or slower with a new group of uh of colleagues in the armed forces. The rhythms at Morirana High School have sustained us for four years. However, now it is time to explore new pulses, a new chapter. Don't be afraid of a fresh start. However, I ask that you keep these dances and songs you felt on Morirana's campus in the back of your mind. Carry those rhythms with you for the rest of your life, as
each one has been integral in composing the symphony that you are today. Shortly before I wrote the speech, I was asked the following question. How would you describe success after high school? My answer was the following. To me, a successful post high school experience is defined by how many new rhythms I will have the opportunity to explore. Class of 2025, everything in the universe has rhythm. So, why not live as many of its dances as you can. Thank you. And now, I would like to introduce Ella Ferris, your class of 2025 validictorian. [Applause] I've said it before, guys, and I'll say it again. Bryce should have been validictorian instead of me. That guy was much more eloquent than I'm about to be because to be honest, I didn't want to give this speech. It's just
that I don't know most of you and most of you don't know me. And yet, I'm supposed to stand here and say something that's meaningful to all of us as if we've shared the same story. We've shared walls, maybe classes, maybe passing glances, but that's not the same as knowing someone. Truly, we're just strangers in the same yearbook. So, what great insight could a complete rando like me possibly gives that speaks to everyone? I thought about it for a not so long time because I'm a massive procrastinator. And I realized the one thing we all share, the one resource we're all running out of at exactly the same pace is time. So, I won't tell you what this meant or what comes next. You already know what matters to you far more than I do.
So instead of dragging this out, instead of pretending to summarize four years of hundreds of lives I barely know, I'm going to give you a little gift, I'm going to give you your time back. Since time is the one gift that fits everyone. So take this gift and talk to your favorite teacher, hug your mom, breathe a little deeper, laugh with the person next to you, make a memory, or don't. It's your choice. It's your time. you'll do more with it than I ever could with the speech. So, thank you. And I'd like to invite Miss Kaufman back to the stage. Good evening, class of 2025. Tonight, we celebrate a milestone, a moment years in the making. And what a class you are. You are the largest graduating class in Morirana High School history by
[Music] far. Over $10 million in scholarships awarded to students entering into prestigious militarymies, a division one athlete, a state champion wrestler, a student attending Yale, and students who have already been hired into highly competitive careers in welding and automotive. But beyond the accolades and achievements, tonight is about something deeper. Life, as you're beginning to realize, is a strange and beautiful journey. It is exciting, full of big wins, new chapters, and unforgettable moments just like tonight. It's also full of heartbreak, obstacles, and days when giving up feels easier easier than keeping moving forward. And sometimes it's just mundane, the routine, the waiting, the in between. But I hope you've learned something powerful here at Morirana High School. You push through the hard and you find joy in the good. You keep showing up. You stay curious.
You cheer each other on. And that is what will carry you through to the next stage. Whether you're joining the workforce, heading to college, or serving our country with honor. So take pride in this moment. Let it remind you of what you are capable of. And as you step into the world beyond these walls, don't just chase success, chase meaning. And never stop growing. Congratulations, class of 2025. We are proud of you and can't wait to see what you do next. Thank you. You guys ready? All right, first row. Are you guys ready? Okay, hold on. Members of the governing board, Dr. Streeter parents and community. I am pleased to present Morirana High School's graduates of 2025. I certify that they have completed the requirements for graduation as established by the Arizona State Board of
Education and the Morirana Unified School District governing board. Will the graduates in the first row please rise? Let's go back. [Music] [Applause] [Music] We're gonna move it. So, as our graduates exit this evening, we're going to get them off the floor up the escalators to the parents. So, please make sure that you give them the opportunity to get out of here quickly and they will meet you upstairs. Thank you. Now, Karina, are you ready to make it official? Let's do it. Let's do it. Good evening everyone. I'm Karina Rodriguez Quanka and it has been my honor to serve you guys as your senior class president. Okay, let's be honest.
Our high school journey was far from perfect. Take August of 2023 for example. Just as we stepped into our roles as upper classmen, we were hit with a storm. Literally, like I'm sure you guys all remember it. So now, forgive me for going full English teacher on you, but in literature, storms often symbolize chaos, uncertainty, and emotional struggle. Something many of us have faced, are currently facing, or will face. That storm didn't just damage buildings. It tested our morale. But in the face of it all, we showed who we truly are. Family stepped in, teachers adapted, and our community stood strong together. We didn't just rebuild our school, we rebuilt our spirit. From this, we learned that growth isn't always immediate. Progress doesn't always feel like progress, and success doesn't always look how we imagined.
But as the Arizona Association of Student Council says, trust the process, trust the slow days, trust the setbacks, and trust the moments that didn't go your way because each of them has led you here. To our teachers, coaches, and staff, thank you for being more than just educators. You've been mentors, guides, and sometimes very patient babysitters. To our families and loved ones, thank you for your love, your sacrifices, and your belief in us. This achievement is yours, too. We couldn't have done this without you. And finally, to the class of 2025, thank you. You've shown me what true perseverance looks like. Whether it was pushing through a storm or powering through our senioritis, you've proved that we are capable of more than we know. As we step into the unknown, let's be honest, none of
us have it completely figured out. And that's okay. Because no matter what storm hits us later in life, we'll be ready to face it. Now, 2,340 school days later, let's make this official. Graduates, please rise. You may now move your tassels to the left. It is my honor to present to you the Morirana High School graduating class of 2025. Congratulations. You did it. You may now throw your caps. Thank you guys so much. [Applause] graduates, please exit up the escalators. You came down. Thank you. [Applause]
