Good afternoon and thank you for joining us to celebrate the Mountain View High School class of 2025.
Today we gather to celebrate their accomplishments, their growth, and each of their journeys that brought them to this moment. At this time, honoring our nation with a presentation of the national anthem. Oh, say can you see by the dawn early light so proudly we held at the twilight last gleaming whose bright stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight or the We watched were so gallently streaming and the rockets rec. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Oh, say does that star spangled yet [Music] way for the land of the free and the home of the free. [Music] Thank you. Please be seated. What a privilege it is to stand before you. What a privilege it is to stand before you this afternoon as the principal of Mountain View High School with our family, friends, and faculty. I'm honored
to introduce the following guests in attendance with us today. Governing Board President, Mr. Hunter Holt, Governing Board Vice President, Miss Katherine Mcronis, Governing Board Members, Mr. Tom Carlson, Mr. Roy Alexander, and Miss Kathy Raymond. Superintendent of the Morirana Unified School District, Dr. Dan Strereer. Senior staff members, Mr. Josh Bane, Mr. Dan Conno, Mr. Thomas Bogart, Mr. Mark Golagosski, Miss Denise Linselada, and Miss Kristen Rei. I also want to recognize our Mountain View associate principles, Miss Christina Coleman, Miss Abigail Francis, and Mr. David Romero. Thank you. Special thanks as well to all of the Mountain View staff and students who worked behind the scenes to bring this ceremony to life, especially as we celebrate at a new venue this year. In particular, I'd like to thank Miss Patricia LaRuda and Miss Kimberly DS Santis, as well
as our incredible student council led by Miss Heather Anderson. Thank you to our teachers here today, both past and present. And to every parent, coach, grandparent, aunt, uncle, neighbor, and all those who've supported our students in ways both big and small. Thank you. You've helped make today possible. Now, we'll get the chance to hear from three very impressive members of the class of 2025. Our student body president, Gabrielle Morales, will open this commencement ceremony with the first speech. [Applause] Class of 2025, I want you to look down at your shoes that you're wearing today. Are they your finest heels, your nicest dress shoes, sandals, flip flops, sneakers? I want you to think about the bottom of that shoe, where you've stepped with it, and what the ground imprint is where you've walked. Class of 2025
graduates, faculty, and parents. My name is Gabrielle Morales, and it is my honor to have served as a student body president of Mountain View High School for the 2024 2025 school year. These past four years have been nothing short of a blessing. So, instead of talking about me, I'd like to give a gift to each and every one of you. If you could take a moment to look under your seats, you'll find under your seats. Absolutely nothing. Sorry, guys. One more time. My gift isn't a physical item. It's a metaphorical one. I bet you that all of you in the crowd today didn't realize that for all four years of high school, in the front office of Mountain View, where we spent the past four years, lies a doormat. Now, it's not a vibrant one.
In fact, in classic Mountain View fashion, it's a gray one with a black border. But think about the fact that you probably didn't even know it was there. All 43 of us have stepped on that doormat at least a couple of times. Or if you're me, probably about a hundred with how many times I've been late. Sorry, Mom and Dad, for all the automated calls that everyone here loves getting. Class of 2025, I give you the gift of a doormat. a simple, ordinary, mundane object that we overlook in the day-to-day life in the chaos. A doormat is more than just a surface to wipe away the day's dirt. It's a symbol of openness, connection, belonging, and familiarity. Class of 2025, I implore you to use this doormat as a reminder to leave your door open
for new opportunities, old friends that are sitting amongst you today. challenges, failures, and successes. Be the person who invites others into your door. The relationships you build will shape your future more than any accomplishment will. A doormat bears footprints. It marks those who pass through, a testament to the stories shared and the journeys intersected. You will leave your own mark on a multitude of people, and they in turn will leave theirs on you. Cherish these imprints whether they are messy or imper perfect for they are reminders of the lessons learned from the encounters. Now whether your foot has stepped on the property of another senior iss playing the most intense game of senior water tag ever or the football field of Mr. Romero's precious football field that he considers another one of his children. Or
it stepped on the gym floor to win yet another spirit stick since we've won so many. or when it steps on the stage today to mark a big milestone in your life. Remember those who've stepped into your journey. The teachers who've made an impact on my life, my friends, my parents, my brother, my grandparents. Thank those people in your life. A pathy is easier to take when people have paved it for you. So thank those who have done so for you. I leave you with a quote from a wise woman in my life that has stuck with me since the sixth grade. Don't make it harder than it has to be. Don't procrastinate your college projects or your future work endeavors like we did with Miss Dudson's essays or Miss Longo's major works. Don't decide
that just because school is over, you're going to let the attendance ladies deal with your absence one last time. Don't wait stay in bed the extra 10 minutes just to rush out the door as I once did and to say yes to take on the challenges that come with new opportunities. Don't make it harder than it has to be. Take it one step at a time. Slow down and enjoy the ground you walk upon and the imprint you make on it and the people who choose to walk it with you. I know that I definitely wish I would have thanked those people in my life a little more. So, make sure you do because you never know when you won't be able to. This is only the beginning for each and every single one of
us and we definitely have not seen the best of the class of 2025. The world is waiting for your footprints. to talk about the legacy that your footprints leave. It is my pleasure to introduce our saludiatoran, Luke Vrial. [Applause] Good afternoon. I think it's true that every generation looks down at the next, and we're no exception. Despite the fanfare of tonight's ceremony, a ceremony that is supposed to celebrate our adulthood, I think that tomorrow morning, in a lot of ways, we will still be seen as children. You don't have to look very far to see that the way our culture understands generation Z is as something other than positive. We're seen as iPhone zombies. We're dismissed as the anxious generation and seen as fragile snowflakes. utterly uninterested in and incapable of running our own lives.
And this understanding of generation Z, though a caricature, has some truth to it. But if we do this next bit right, it won't for long. Graduation has had me thinking a lot recently about our legacy, how it is exactly that we want to be remembered. And the way I think we tend to remember entire generations of people is that I think we remember them by what they gave to the next. We remember them for the institutions they built, the crisis they overcame, the discoveries they made. And in truth, ours is a generation that has not yet given much to the world. But how could it be otherwise? We are only just beginning to enter the world of adulthood. And it is here that our reputation will be set in stone. And let me make myself
absolutely clear when I say that we must not make ourselves the passive generation. If we consign ourselves to mediocrity in college and in our careers, if we live and act and vote for the path of least resistance, then our memory will be damned and we will deserve it. Because the truth is we do owe something to the society that raised us. We are the inheritors of some of the greatest gifts in human history. Representative democracy, free inquiry, modern medicine, and perhaps the greatest gift, the ability to take it all for granted. From these gifts, we have benefited immeasurably. And for these gifts, we can never truly repay our parents. So then let us make it our mission to pay them forward because that is exactly what we are going to do. I know we are
going to be lawyers and doctors and soldiers and sailors and airmen and marines. We are going to be policemen and firefighters and tradesmen and entrepreneurs and teachers and most importantly we are going to be mothers and fathers. And if we do these things and if we do them well and if we do them selflessly, then our next 18 years will pass as quickly as our first. And by then they will see that we did our duty. One way or another, at the end of our lives, we will no longer be seen as children. And if we do this right, we won't be remembered as the anxious generation. Instead, we will be hailed as men and women who gave ourselves to our country, to our families, to our neighbors, and to our friends, and who, when
all was said and done, can stand worthily shoulder-to-shoulder with our parents and pass our torch on to the next. Thank you. [Applause] Next to speak will be our validictorian Brady [Applause] Mau. All right. Is that good? All right. Um, before I start, I'd just like to give a special thank you to my uh wonderful mom, dad, and brother who are out here today supporting me, as well as the family who's come from all over the country to help me chase my dreams. Um, I'd like to give a shout out to the Mountain View and Morirana Unified School District staff and teachers who have supported me along the way, and my best friend Ava, who's here from LA, skipping school, although I like skipping school, um, to be here today. Reading F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great
Gatsby is a hallmark moment of the education of many high school students across the nation. They call the text a classic, a must-read. Yet, I was rather overwhelmed by the verbose and excessive nature of the book when I first read it. It wasn't until I sat down and dissected the book in Miss Dudson's AP literature class that I began to understand why this book has stuck around for so long. Jay Gatsby, the main character, is a dreamer, somebody who takes impossible ideas and works effortlessly to make them possible. He's used as a tool by Fitzgerald to make the stupidest argument I have ever heard. While being the most life-changing piece of literature I've read, standing here, I have to say that I wholeheartedly disagree with what he wrote. You see, at the end of this
text, Fitzgerald describes Dutch sailors who sailed to New York City 400 years ago and through the lush green landscapes believed in the promise of the American dream. Fitzgerald then compares these sailors to Jay Gatsby who saw the same promise through the green light, a symbol of his own dreams. Fitzgerald argues that as humans, we see the promise of the future and we dream. He says that even though we'll never achieve them, we'll keep on dreaming anyway, running faster, stretching our arms out further at a hope for the future that Fitzgerald claims is delusional. But Fitzgerald is wrong. Standing before our class today, I can see the promise of the future in the green cords that drape our necks. In the green senior banners we hung with excitement this year, and in the green class color
we've worn with pride over the past four years, dreaming of one day making it here together, the class of 2025. And here we are. Our dreams have come to fruition against the odds of Fitzgerald's novel. Now, I ask that you think about one dream you have had for this past year. And I've brought some of our goals from this year just to see how far we have come. You might remember these from Miss Dudson's class. Um Satie wanted to plan a trip with her friends or family and now she'll be going to Florida this summer. Isaiah wanted to get a beautiful girlfriend and now she's sitting over there in the fourth row. [Applause] Kate wanted to post three vlogs on YouTube and now she'll remember senior year forever and captured the memories perfectly. Uh Berlin
wanted to MC a pep assembly successfully stepping out of her comfort zone and reaching high. And Gabrielle wanted to write an amazing graduation speech which we all just got the privilege of listening to. Each and every single one of them, just like so many of us, were able to achieve these goals. These are just a few of the many dreams put in writing and on that board for this year. And some of so many of you will be forever grateful you were able to achieve them. Remember that we did it. We dreamed big. For me, dreaming is how I found myself in places a younger version of myself would have considered impossible. I used to dream of this very moment, being on the stage as the validictorian, being successful in the most challenging classes it
took to get here. But the most significant thing about this dream, or any dream, is that some of the most impactful parts of the journey here were not the classes I meticulously planned to take, but the ones I hadn't. In ceramics, I forced myself to branch out, making new friends and expressing every detail detail of my life from vacations to beliefs and passions through clay. Then there's psychology where I found a passion for studying the brain, changing the college major I once thought was set in stone. What I'm saying here is that sometimes the road less traveled or sometimes our trails will diverge. Presenting chances to take the road less traveled and taking those chances for us will make all the difference. One last time, I ask that you think about a dream that you
have for the future. I asked the same people from before from earlier for the dreams they have for the years ahead of them. Z wants to get his masters in computer engineering and Sadi wants to make a change in global conservation efforts. Berlin wants to go to as many concerts as she can and Kate hopes to travel as much as possible. Gabrielle dreams of graduating law school from the University in San Diego to go on as a STEM lawyer. They just like every single person here have big dreams for the future. Along the road to those dreams, there will be chances to try something new, opportunities to shake things up. And I advise you to take them, keeping the end in sight. Never forget that you've had big dreams before. And this dream now is
just one of many that you will be able to fulfill and achieve. Mountain View class of 2025. We have made it this far. And we've done so by dreaming. [Applause] Thank you speakers. That was beautifully done. To the class of 2025. There's something powerful about trust. It's quiet, but it's strong. and class of 2025, you have earned my trust. Throughout the years, and more than a few times, just this week, I found myself thinking and often saying, "I trust you." Sometimes it was in response to, "Can I have one more day to turn it in?" or "What about this?" or "I'll be there right on time." But more often, it came after watching you. You brought forward new ideas, asked hard questions, and weren't afraid to challenge the norm. All with the goal of making
things better. And time after time, you showed you were ready. We trusted you. And the trust went both ways. You trusted your teachers, your teams, this community, and each other. You showed up with spirit, with collaboration, and with care. You lifted one another up, honored old traditions, and created new ones. You made Mountain View better. And what I hope you know is this. Trust is one of the highest forms of respect. This week alone, I saw it everywhere. I saw it during Gradwalk when you embraced former teachers, inspired elementary students with silly songs, and reconnected with schools that helped to shape you. I saw it at senior sunset. It was there in your playlists, your laughter, the Instagram posts, and your yearbook messages. It was also there in the million photos you took to hold
on to these moments. I see it now in the creativity on your graduation caps and in the way you looked to one another, your senior leaders, to make this final week matter. You didn't need us to lead the way. You were already leading it yourselves. And that leadership came in many forms. Planning events, cheering on classmates, and yes, getting completely soaked in the name of school spirit. But the class of 2025 isn't defined by a single moment. Like our yearbook theme, points of view reminds us, what makes this class extraordinary is the range of your stories, your talents, your backgrounds, and your perspectives. Together, you created a clearer, fuller picture of what Mountain View truly is and what it can be. So, as you step forward, take that Mountain Lion pride with you. Keep leading,
keep listening, and keep honoring all the points of view around you. And if life ever tries to soak you again, laugh, regroup, and remember you can handle it. On behalf of the entire Mountain Views High School staff and administration, it is my honor to say congratulations, class of 2025. I trust in your [Applause] future. It is now time to present our graduates. As we begin announcing names, I ask that we honor each graduate by allowing their name to be heard clearly. Please celebrate with respectful applause so that every student has their moment to shine. The students names will be read by Mountain View staff members selected by the class of 2025. We will begin with a top 10 graduates read by Mr. Steve Lockawitz followed by the full list of graduating seniors read by Mr.
