014experience for me that pushed me to major in Spanish and college and has now led me to travel to 2100s in total nine Spanish speaking um as far as academics for the kids it's total immersion which is the best way to learn language I always tell the kids you know classro is a great but you're really going to learn by speaking with real people um and yeah I've been working with EF Tours um with a girl Nam Naomi to orchestrate the whole thing um it's eight days um the set departure day is June 18th you know buffering in for a snow day but there is the flexibility for 3 days after departure to adjust at three days in case we have a very hectic winter um yeah I have about 60 kids interested so far

015that have expressed interest of course not all will show but 6 is a great sign um and that was just pulling current 910th and 11 graders um this would be open to like right now current 8th 9th 10th 11th because in two years they'll be at the youngest between their ninth and 10th grade summer so yeah unless you have any questions I'm really excited to get this going for our school I think it's a great opportunity I was talking to other teacher friends um I know I went to all Park so they do it but Trenton van Beren play can I know people and they've all went through EF they all said they love it and I really want to bring this opportunity to the kids here any questions let two inless not really a

016question it was kind of a question it's kind of a Comon question sure so you might not have known me before today but a lot of people at the high school know me and you know I nor get invited to these kind of trips and I wondering I did do Spanish one in school maybe not this but I did take a little Spanish one I you know anybody on the board to supervise or anything the marrier June 18th or you said 3 days or 3 days after yeah I happen to be that be available jth as well if you absolutely just just thr it out there but have fun with kids and thank you very happy you got thr thank you that makes me wonder if like do you have to take yourself off the

018Manor C Cas sorry audit of the financial statements of deror height School District number 7 as of and for the year end j ended June 30th 2024 as presented by Mr John riglin CPA senior manager Manor ceris CER at the Board of Education meeting held on October 16 2 24 may have a motion move moved by trustee Gator supported by trustee strini questions or comments yes trusty wless is this the same presentation that we heard in the finance committee by chance yes okay it was like the exact same essentially okay just want to make sure because I wasn't here at the meeting where it happened but I still want to be able to vote on it if it was the same presentation I think there was only a difference of like one number but overall

019it was it was the number you caught though right exactly Mr CL yeah so I would just add very pleased with the um this company and their audit you guys know this brand new company that we brought in very thorough did a great job with the audit um the district finances I believe are are very solid and the processes and procedures which the audit really focuses on I think are in great shape so um just really pleased with the overall audit agree agre roll call please trusty winless yes trusty Anderson trusty dyo yes trusty Gator yes trusty sterlini yes trusty wall yes motion carries inter agency agreement between School District number 7 and Oakwood healthc Care Incorporated exhibit number six in your packet be it so resolved that the Board of Education approves the inter

020agency agreement between deror Heights School District number 7 and oid healthc Care Incorporated which provides Comprehensive Mental Health Services for mild to moderate severity of need this includes short and longterm individual and family therapy may have a motion some move by trustee Gator support support support by trustee dyro questions or comments yes trusty Gator so I did peruse over the contract um and I just wanted to know in terms of like how the is it like by referral that the student would be referred to this therapist or is it walk in and then they do an assessment to see who's mild or moderate I believe it's by referral uhuh yes and um so I can get that specific processes for you because it it really doesn't get I mean it talks about the referral process

021here the contract so okay and I'm not here to get in the weeds of it all um um I think it would just be helpful for my voting to know how this service will be rendered so this is not a new I mean they've yeah so um what is new is the director so she reached out to me and said hey Mark we really should codify this in writing so I asked her to send this contract and then the front part of this in the exhibit is her explanation of the program so just do a quick write out and explain uh the services and and the process um so I believe it's referral based understood and thank you for agreeing your willingness to send it to me I don't know if the board would like

022it but I don't want to I can I can get that just to make sure the other pieces I did have Jeremy excuse me Mr Chism are legal look over the contract and said it's good call yeah yeah I greatly appreciate the layout we hadn't gotten it okay thank you that was it for me any other questions comments it was kind of it was it was just to confirm that this was the existing practice um prior to I've seen students go through this personally and the exist in practice like the paragraph three the way it's SP out that's exact way they send people to the clinicians okay so i' like it as like a formal document that the board approves because it is the way we handle it we've been handling it way at least

023since Co for sure yeah great roll call trusty Anderson trusty dyro yes trusty Gator yes trusty serini yes trusty wless yes trusty wall yes motion carries rubbish removal proposal exhibit number seven in your packet be it so resolved that the Board of Education approves The Proposal of the Down River operations managers group also known as dram to contract waste disposal through Waste Management total month cost through waste management will be $2,437 this would take effect January 1st 2025 and will be honored through the 2026 2027 fiscal year monies will be derived from the general fund may I have a motion moved by trusty wless support support by trusty Gator questions or comments yes want to reiterate just a great job on this find and great job on saving the district money um to the entire

025motion some move moved by trustee Gator support supported by trustee sterlini questions or comments um just in case you know as somebody might be hearing this the graduation ceremony will not be at the high school it's the allight party just clarify in case somebody was wondering unless we know something different call please trusty dyra yes trusty Gator yes truste sterlini truste wless abstained for the reason of my daughter being a part of the Class part of 2025 appreciate your integrity trusty Anderson truste wall yes motion carries overnight trip to Princeton New Jersey and registration fee approval for an ampus High School's Model United Nations team exhibit number nine in your packet B resolve that the Board of Education approves a trip to Princeton New Jersey for an ampus High School's Model United Nations team November

02621st through to 24th 2024 the board also approves the registration fee of $110 for each of the six students which will assist them in taking part in this transformative learning opportunity the monies will be derived from the general fund may have a motion tell Mo support by trustee Gator support by trustee windless questions there yes M very quick comment what a great experience for these students so very and I do recall last year when they gave it they that was just very very beautiful represented us very well yes roll call please trusty Gator yes truste sterlini yes truste wless yes truste Anderson truste dyro yes truste wall yes motion carries second reading adoption of proposed new revised and reissued board policies exhibit number 10 in your packet be so resolve that the Board of Education

027approves the second reading and Adoption of proposed new revised and reissued Neola board policies as presented policy 31208 employment of personnel employment of personnel for co-curricular extracurricular activities policy 533 0.02 opioid antagonists policy 53 excuse me policy 5340 student accidents policy 55 00 student conduct policy 744.301 artificial intelligence policy 8321 criminal justice information security may have a motion s Mo includ by trustee Gator support support by trustee winless by questions or comments if if somebody needed to reach out to you about these policies we didn't have time before the second read they can just come to the policy committee meeting and it can be brought back correct yes okay yep and if you have a specific question you certainly call me as well I don't because I will call you but correct the one that

028the big change in here is I'm looking at this is this the artificial intelligence piece because there's a revision and a new part and then all of this background check stuff is keeps continually changing I think I talked about that and so we had our audit um the summer this last summer by the state police they did a great job uh Holly Nichols is the person that um is our Chris person and so she handles all of this it was a a really good experience that the guy came in and did the audit but it was also like a training and so um very pleased with the whole process but you'll see that policy's been continually changing so okay other questions comments roll call please trustee sterlini yes truste winless yes trusty Anderson truste dyro

029yes trusty Gator yes trusty wall yes motion carries board member MB class attendance be it so resolved that board of education authorizes the attendance of d fall for the following virtual CBA classes CBA 341 data foundations CBA 343 teacher Effectiveness and student achievement each class is $99 and a total cost to the district of $198 may I have a motion so moved moved by truste winless support by trustee staney questions or comments yes on are these do you know if these ones are the ones that qualify for the reimbursement from masb or not they are not part It's usually the hundreds and just a few of the 200s yes all right thank you I could be wrong but I don't I don't think those two oh that's okay I can check the webs I just

030wondered if you knew yeah no roll call please trusty W yes trusty Anderson trusty dyro yes trusty Gator yes trusty sterlini yes trust wall yes yes motion carries all right so we're going to go to unfinished business is there any unfinish business to come to the board seeing or hearing none new business any new business to come to the board seeing and hearing none we're going to go to District's point of Pride Mr Clan thank you so I'd like to begin by saying a special thank you to all those who assisted with getting the word out on the two very important initiatives that were uh passed yesterday our renewal of the operating millage proposal as we call it the non-homestead renewal passed by a margin of approximately 67% and the Wayne Rea Regional enhancement millage

031renewal that currently and I know there were a couple of precincts that were still out but it last check was 68% so I want to thank the community thank the board forget the word out our staff members um very significant dollars for the school district but 2.5 million in uh both of these so uh again I can't thank everybody enough especially our community hers supporting D7 want to talk about the staff professional development day was very pleased with how that event went uh we focused on staff appreciation in the service pins we brought back that program um and recognize those individuals trying to get everybody caught up we spent uh time I went over uh with the staff our district strategic plan reviewed that we also reviewed the MIP which is the state of Michigan

032that's what they call the school Improvement plans so we have a district MIP plan and then each building has a school Improvement plan we worked on plc's and we did curriculum work um in the afternoons when the the different groups were out and about um I was sitting in on some I got to read about and learn about red ink so that's the program that our high school uh Ela uh folks are looking at popped into many oh there we go yes the red ink I I learned a lot during that session um wonderful learning opportunity hit the uh the IR presentations and our elementaries the groups that were pcing I popped in on those groups talking about curriculum talking about testing talking about what we can do to help our students achieve and so

033I was just very pleased with that overall uh day we meet again so as you guys know you approved the professional development advisory committee and bylaw they have to weigh in on eight hours of PD so I threw that out the window and said help me plan the rest of the year so um so we're meeting on Friday and as part of the professional development activities we did for that day after they reviewed the strap plan and all School Improvement plans um they gave us input through survey on what what type of professional development that they need um that they feel they need to better meet the their needs of their students and to meet the needs of the and I look up here because we had the strap plan up here um during that

034day so uh we'll be meeting again on Friday we continuing our planning uh moving forward for professional development so it was a great day um Board election again returning Mandy Tanya and Derek and we have Elise here and she's our new board member so congratulations yes so everyone thank you for everyone's support on that um and then I have building reports so at Madison they had their Fall Fest a lot of fun for the little ones big shout out to the staff this is from devb the director over there uh for helping put everything together it's interesting because um I will just say this I thought this was unique but uh one of our School nurses wrote a grant and received a number of these um air humidifiers so through State Grant didn't cost District

035anything so we're working on getting those out but they're stored in Madison so um we were looking uh because where we meet they were kind of stacked up so Deb had created a out in the the uh cafeteria area a little like I don't know it was like a little scary they had all kinds of stuff but the kids had to walk through these and she used them to create a little I don't even know what you call it yeah yeah like a maze kind of thing so um but the kids were really having fun the H holiday parade was success a lot of parent involvement U they've been doing a lot of drills over there as well and so the kids are doing a great job with that at Bedford the staff was excited

036after the I ready training they can't wait to use the data to provide it to guide their instruction um the students will be once they do that I ready then they're placed in academic groups to better help them meet their needs so that the instruction can match the level parent teachers are coming up next week as they are on all the elementary so they're looking forward to that at party the staff did a great job with I ready training the trainer was very impressed with the school and the staff he had many nice compliments um in at the end of November um party will be doing their Charlie Brown Thanksgiving so if you haven't seen that event you need to get over to that event I've never seen so many toasters in all my life

037so pretty cool at pulk again the holiday festivities went Halloween festivities went really good shout out to sue surma she U purchased candy for all of the Poke kids when they walked through its Miss they walked through the uh ad office and um it was just a great and they also participated in the I ready training at the middle school students had a very successful volleyball football cheerleading season they're excited to get their next round of sports underway the swimming and the basketball student council created an amazing event for the students it's called being caught good shout out to the students and Mrs nap they also had a a a neat game of Clue that uh teacher Mary McDonald created it was engaging fun for the staff and the students at the middle school high

038school haunted H hallways great Community event I was there on I went on Friday night and yes I did scream it was really well done first time I something I missed it last year so I was I was glad that I had an opportunity to go this year but the kids really did a Miss fed a great job on that so uh Dr Prince also did a good job organizing the testing as you know the state of Michigan were continually doing the assessments and the testing and the staff really appreciated her hard work on that Athletics our girls swim team won the league championship yes very nice congratulations to those girls uh they swept the duels and won the lead by two points so phenomenal job um I had a great opportunity of going there

039on parent night and listening to their testimonials to their parents there wasn't a dry eye in the pool so um yeah but it was it was good it really was it was touching and they just had a fantastic uh year so also our e Esports team which Shaheen our Tech director um advises they made the playoffs and their rocket yeah they did good as well uh it was interesting um K12 media was over and we were doing some videos walked around all of the buildings and we put some teachers on the spot doing some videos and we want wanted to um I had the guy walk into that Esports classroom the videographer and he was amazed so we had to get a student I called Shaheen he said get student on let's get that on

040video so I'm hoping that that makes the the cut but um Shaheen said the student that we brought down and and I I can't recall his name but he's he's really good in fortnite like really good he's rated in the state he's that good so pretty pretty cool um pretty cool stuff virtual program and safety Cheryl's area they've been doing lockdown and secure mode drills and staff is still practicing we're still in the learning phases of the booth we had a little one today pull um a boot at uh part eight so we're still kind of getting used to this whole smart boot system even with those issues and what I call these growing pains with it I do feel better about the safety of our schools I really do I feel that um nothing's

041perfect and and nothing's um you know you knock on wood and pray that we never have to use this system but I do feel um that we're at a point that if something did happen that that we would be uh our staff knows what to do and the boots would definitely keep uh people safe so uh they're continuing to do that work and Cheryl's been working hard to make sure um you know that that system is ready to go live when um when we put the whole thing in place in terms of connecting it with the police and the fire and that kind of stuff so they've all Alo in the virtual programs they're setting up their virtual conferences with their families and parent teacher conferences in our um elll program with nman uh the

042teachers did a great job recognizing National Hispanic Heritage Month uh through Reading Spanish stories and teaching about Hispanic culture the elll program is hosting a family engagement night so there are 16 students who have exited the program which means their skills are such that they've um they' made it through the program and they're going to be doing a certificate for the students and recognizing uh in the maintenance area the High School hbac auditorium project they plac the unit on the roof and on the curve on the curb that sits on the roof so um I think I announce that um information about that it will be a bit uh it's a 12we lead time to get all the electronics to get that going we did have an issue with the parking lot lights at the

043high school we have those now operating but we need need further repairs those wires um are old and I think that's part of what was causing the problem the new piece of playground equipment that you guys approved um has been ordered for Madison so we're waiting for that to come in and that was for the piece that was decommissioned that we got out of there in our tech department Shaheen's been busy he set up a fishing um fishing is what cyber folks used to um get into your network so he put one out sent it out to everybody they simulated the emails appearing from the IT department and only 6% clicked on it so so our staff is kind of clued into what fishing is and how to stop uh the cyber attacks and he

044said this is good sign as we approach holiday season when schools are often faced with increased risk of cyber attacks during the extended break so he also indicated you guys approved the RICO um leases and the updates he said the RICO refresh project is complete all of our buildings now have modern upto-date copier so um and I've used them they are pretty slick in the curriculum area Dr Finny reported that the teachers participated in the Wayne Rea rein rein inter I can't say that word yeah so they they reinvigoration that word reinv in yeah so um the plc's and it was interesting because the um the district and many districts have done PLC work for years now and it it always seems to kind of get lost some of the specific steps we have one

045group here who it's it's actually our Specialist Team so these would be like our PE our computer Library all of those folks that have come together in their PLC their leader has been trained Allison a couple of them have been trained and I looked at the agenda and um for what the work that they were doing and sat in on some of their work and I was amazed they're truly going back talking about plc's um you know they're they're developing their their Norms how they're going to operate the data that they're going to look at so uh very pleased I think that's going to pay dividends um teachers were enlighted by the knowledge they learned and motivated to be on task as I just talked about uh working in their grade level PL plc's engaged

046an active inquiry related to student learning and we really hit this hard during the uh professional development for the for us to count and I tried to explain it in my notes but for us to count this time as uh instructional hours as uh District dppd district provided uh School Improvement um along along with sketchies which is the hours that the teachers earn it has to be data driven and it has to be focused on either either a strat plan a school Improvement plan or on improving social studies skills or math skills or Ela skills so we spent a lot of time talking about that and um and I think you know I saw it I saw it in action uh certainly on that PD dat in the special education and human resource area um

047and uh Scott is at a u conference so he couldn't be here this evening but he did want me to mention the special education department has received several compliments from parents of students they're happy with the changes that we've made saying their their uh students are getting direct instruction they need to meet their IEP uh iepc goals um and experience growth so uh can put an explanation in there about some of the things we're trying to do to really uh focus on that department and focus on the teaching and learning um and he he assisted with this and hly did a great job with this staff recognition event during the rec uh PD was well received uh the event clearly clearly built a sense of community and investment among the staff um it just really

048was a cool event and it was neat my vision you know I have Vision how things go my vision was to bring a grade level or we bring a building up with all of their people and then we do Applause they were applausing applauding as people came up um it was really neat and then we um got to recognize Ray White who's the engineer here for his 40 plus years and he actually got a standing ovation so it really really was a NE event so um so I know that will along but black on but I thank everybody and thank everybody's support thank you all right we go to other business uh first is going to be board committee updates uh building a site committee there's no update um s advisory there's no update and

049then we have uh finance committee that truste stle is going to let us know about and then policy than you all right sorry these are a bit late for you guys I apologize all right so the first one we're going to talk about is the finance committee uh meeting was held on 101 called to order 503 present was Mark kleinhans myself DK wall Leslie wless um no members were absent at the time additional attendees was Dr gissinger and if I have it correctly Lorraine who does the payroll correct um presentation of the financial Bud budget by John Rand with Manor Aran so he um that was the big thing for that Finance meeting was the financial audit that he presented to us um he mentioned that we have a healthy fund balance of 31% recommended

050recommended is 20% State average is about 21% so we have a good healthy fund B fund balance which is awesome um excess money for the food program I believe it was we need to spend approximately about 600,000 so he's getting a list of items that we can purchase with the funds um so that'll be good you know we can get equipment whatnot tables whatnot we all decide on um for that um it was mentioned about getting new recyclable food trays that one of the student presentations last year recommended so that's in play uh presentation of the audit to the board um for this was October 16th um and we recommended copies of the budget for All and excess to the for all and excess for the audience go that wrong meeting was adjourned at 6:30

051uh next meeting to be determined uh now for the policy commit now these are behind I had two Corrections on finance committee but you want all at the end or do you want them no you what I do not what you do yeah just a suggestion and if you all agree then it's a what you do yep um just for the minutes the last name of the person payroll because uh if anybody pulls these minutes you want to know who was in the room and it's uh more than one L rain in our district yeah um I know you got payroll right there but her last name is important and then I think it was 700k for the food spend now that's St I thought it was like 6:36 but I'll double check yeah okay

052just double checking that okay that's it okay good job cool minutes all right on to the policy committing minut minutes this is for September 18th called order 532 I do need to clarify that with latata um members present was latan Gator Mark kleinhans myself and Leslie windless members absent for none we had a special guest speaker that day was Tabitha Cur she's a mother of Liliana Aur who was killed in 2017 after a lunch table fell on top of her um she was looking to bring awareness to schools to increase school safety with equipment and procedures also looking for support and getting liliana's law Michigan house bill 4167 which focus is on that so she's looking for support for that bill um she also mentioned never again law which helps keep data about student deaths

053and injuries so to help push for that um I kind of want to say something more to that we don't track kids injuries in that like we should be right like the schools don't do enough and that's where she's pushing for it um the Macy Grace Foundation which helps bring awareness to playground safety Macy was killed in 2018 when a tire swing she was on fell over um and we explained to tabi uh to Tabitha that we actually had just had the playground equipment inspected so that was good um she's going to be working with Mark to see which ways we can help her in getting these laws passed and also making sure our our school is safe with the kids um appointment of myself as policy chair and then discussion of the following policies

054which we have read paly 9160 public attendance at school events the added verbiage was the 50/50 and bingo with other minor things 9211 District support organizations that was just review 9700 relations with special interest groups that was just review 97001 advertising and Commercial activities that was adding verbage to include 5050 in bingo with other minor tweaks discussion of policy 2264 which is Title 9 the new version I'll call it um I mentioned that Collins and blah had told another District not to adopt policy 2264 um embedded within the policy would allow bi biological boys to play on biological girls teams locker rooms Etc um Federal cases are going on right now over title n um Mark Klean was to have a discussion with Collins and Blaha our attorneys regarding it um discussion of policy 226

055which was titled n the old version updating to show Cheryl Howard um Dr Port tell's correct title and contact information discussion of making assistant superintendent Title 9 contact as well meeting adjourned at 6:47 and then the next meeting was on 102 10 two meeting and call to order at 5:32 pardon me do you want me to wait until you're done with both or jump in okay um I would just add that it was recommended by me and um agreed to by committee that for policy 9211 I believe no for the Bingo policy 97.01% thank you on and then mine was on the first bullet just uh specifying that the incident happened at a local school it wasn't a D7 tap it wasn't a D7 yes I almost put that it actually happened at St Alberts

056which is next door our living document on their own y I'll put that on there thank you anything else thank you uh for 102 called to order at 532 president was latan Gator Mark kleinan myself P GRE Neola Craig Hogan Virginia Morgan and Scott Armstrong um members absent was lovely wless discussion of the policies which were bought for reading um which we discussed today policy 31208 I'm just going to read the numbers because these are all the ones we voted on today policy 33 0.02 policy 5340 policy 5500 policy 744.301 and policy a23 um also further discussion of policy 2264 which is the title N9 new version um our client spoke with Collins and Blaha regarding the policy they provided us with some language to use versus adopting the actual policy but we're going to

057be further discussing that in policy meeting um meeting adjourned at 6:30 3 the next meeting is 11:19 24 5:30 and I apologize again you guys I will make sure we have them at the next meeting so we're not so darn way back thank you upcoming board committee meetings uh at this time the only ones that are scheduled are the policy committee November 19th 5:30 it's going to be at the board office and then ass advisory committee would be Wednesday November 20th at 5:30 p.m. at ow best and then the other thing that we have for other business is all of our reports from the MP annual conference report conference sorry um if there's no objection I think we'll go from least to most so that way I can hopefully cut things off that you guys

058might have covered um so you have the most yeah I I didn't even type any up there's two that aren't on there put on there present the next board meeting I don't want us to go late yeah I didn't want to SP late either I figured well I've got mine are okay more like Scribble can you CP note this instead of read it to us yeah I agree yeah I really I just want to give to but yeah I could break it down to Simple Things I'll break down to the things I thought were really key notes so nice but um did you have stuff to go yeah and mine are very brief too um it was my first annual leadership conference I attended in person um I became a board member during covid so

059most of it was online at the time and again this was my first one so that was neat for me great networking opportunities always good to know what other districts are doing uh to compare and contrast but most importantly to get new ideas and maybe share ideas too um I was really fond of our keynote speakers they were not sit and get type of guys they were were very interactive one was very art-based the other um they both told stories through their lives and through their experiences that connected well with the work that we do as a board to be able to support students um in Education Health and well-being um social emotional learning so they both hit on that using their own life stories and again that was very fascinating to me um I

060forgot both of their names um but the first gentleman again he's an artist and a speaker um um and so he gave some giveaways for his art but but again you could tell he was really invested in just doing work to be able to serve people um the other gentleman he was a neuros psychologist um he shared his story through acting out his own experience of growing up in her City growing up lowincome growing up like a young African-American male who went under diagnosed for quite some time and then he literally did a skit to be able to kind of like portray his life but his message was um for us as educational leaders to not judge our kids by the way that they look or where they come from that give each and every

061kid a shot when they walk through the door and lead them with love because you never know their situation um and he shares some Heartfield heartfelt stories about him and his wife and how she's like battling what overcame cancer um a lot of like tears were flowing in the room it was very impactful I'm actually wearing one of his shirts um he had a l lot of merchandise um but if you can see it it says because kids and on the back he has like how you can reach out and order more uh because again he just wants us to be able to focus on helping kids learn and Thrive not just with education but social emotional learning too um I took three of the clinic breakouts and I don't know none of us went

062to the same ones so kudos to us for making sure we covered all the spaces um I attended assertive leadership and fluence for women and to summarize that it's just about women showing up in leadership and being assertive in a way where we can get the message across um they gave us some scripts and some conversations to be able to navigate to do that um relational leadership the key to cap capturing kids Hearts um one quote that I walked away with which I think was very important um he encouraged us to not call kids at risk but consider them to be at promise I thought that was very nice and I wanted to share that with everyone um of course doing what we can to stop negative narratives from um overpowering the good stories that

063we do as a district and as people um so he hit home on that quite a bit um I also attended addressing mental health concerns in schools um they have an interconnected system and framework that they are recommending and I will like share that to anyone who may want it um they also use a tiered system um to be able to understand which kids need the most help and of course they're not labeling that student directly but they're putting them in tears that way we can make sure as a district that we're not missing anyone who may need that level of support um and so they gave us all of the Powerpoints Andor we can ask them to send it so again I'll be happy to send it to anyone if needed um and governing

064through policy was another that attended um and increasing access to mental health support um and they really like that we have been doing that as a district they like that we have focused on like improving our like projects on keeping our grounds safe and clean um and then I also brought up that something that we're not adopting as a board at this time but bringing up in policy is our educational Equity policy um and they wanted to learn more about that so I shared that work with them um they also make sure to let us know the difference between bylaws and actual policy because I don't think that's something that we talk about a lot in policy the difference between a bylaw and a policy um and then my two cbas were data formed data

065formed decision making so you talked a lot about that today and the importance of yes we are all human beings but when we have to make decisions for an entire District it's best to use data when we can and and then I also [Music] attended another policy one but that was it for me I know that wasn't as short but it we were there for two and a half days and so it was a lot of work but I was happy to be able to do it and thank you to the board for allowing me to go would you st time you think for yourself oh yeah all right that's it for me okay thank you okay maybe um next well I took I literally was there from 8:30 is 8:30 900 p.m. Thursday Friday

066and then Sunday from 8:30 to 3:30 I was in class all it was my first really I that was phenomenal is that better it's got lot no feedback um I believe the art the first guest speaker you had I think his name was Len Scott sounds amazing yeah I didn't want to F you off you no and my takeaway from him was like and correct me if I'm saying this incorrect like Joy like what you give off is coming into a room if you're on negative you kind of spread that negativ right but if you come in with positive attitude that that can you know like going into a classroom if you're teaching and if you come in with a bad attitude how do you think the students are going to feel so kind of

067like best we can come in with positive attitude right um the other speaker ad off Brown after ad I love remember name um he was amazing as well he came in like you said and he just he came in decked out you know in one outfit and then at the end he get stripped on his cloes and he had doctorate on and he was he was amazing but a couple things that um he was amazing couple things that he said that I he said tree is in the seed don't destroy the seed before it has time to grow and then every student should know they are seen and they belong he also had another shirt that said and I love that shirt and I ordered that shirt inspire a retire like we have to remember

068that we should be there to inspire these kids so that was he was amazing anyway so I did tend a bunch of CBA classes but I also attended um an attendance class given by camou public schools so they were having issues with kids not showing up at um a lot of absenteeism so when the new superintendent started in 20123 in July of 2023 one of his missions was let's get these kids let's get them back into school hit he got on board with the board and they went knocking on doors and they went house to house and they're like you know let's let's let's get these kids in school and um basically it was the boots on the ground approach um and so you know what they did was they got the um they set

069up meetings and had um um families school you know students attend meetings and they had hard discussions your kids need to be here people didn't like to hear it but you had to have these discussions and they set policy and they gave like two-month window of here's the policy and here we go and so there was some fighting with it you know some push back but all in all it worked out um they also created with this um teams so each School the um had a team attendance team it was a principal and three teachers and they meet once a month and go over the kids who have chronic absentee and then they they speak to them okay what's going on figure it out maybe there's somebody sick that can't get a ride maybe you

070know some sort of ride share try to figure it out um so they also um this year they actually had a truy officer they um have that next year they're going to have two trcy officers but it's more of engaging with the parents see what's going on how can we help you to help these kids right everybody working together and with them doing that they had um they seen the test scores go up the behavior improved they had a 10% decrease in student absenteeism by doing this they also did absentees for they traed for the teachers and it wasn't like hey teachers you're not showing up it was more to show the parents look our teachers are here for your kids so you know's show up we're sh up you show up you know kids

071so um but I'm I'm going to ask for the presentation what not when I get it I'll get it give it to you guys but I thought it was really good they're actually going to start a cell phone policy next year they said pull back the cell phones no more cell phones in the classroom so um yeah that's pretty exciting things so that was really and then I'll discuss other all right oh yes I forgot and I also a bit I did not attend another policy CBA it actually had to do with access to AP classes so like equity in AP is what they call it and it this company was Michigan virtual and how like they are helping districts um get their kids in more AP courses nice so that was why I wanted

072to double back and make sure we knew that CU that was an area that we may want to look at as a district and again it's virtual so it creating access and make it more so we're not just focusing on Pet Promise kids but also our kids who are exceling exception to that was it I promise thank you all right conference oober just kissing everybody saw how much that on they be like yes okay so there's two CBA classes that on my notes that'll be another meeting but um the grassroot advocacy was kind of a little not sure what that class was going to be about but when I went in there one thing I just want to say about the whole meeting every single presenter in the CVA classes I don't know about everybody

073else but they were very good I did not get bored at all which was really really good so sometimes you can get the monotone speaker or something that just doesn't in there and I always say in the front too so I stay aake you know that was the important he wants stay in the front of the class being around the people who are watching um but with the grassroot advocacy basically what that basically came down to is you get an idea it's got to start a lot of times there might not be just like the step presentation actually you know that had to start somewhere someone had to start it and usually what you got to do is you got to find somebody who's also got those similar ideas then you guys start feeding around

074out to the audience and see what people might be interested in so that's the whole purpose behind um Grassroots um and the big thing of course is getting if it's ever possible you want to get something like a public figure somebody very powerful or very uh popular because that really helps spread your message um and one a good example was Ang Jolie works with the um United Nations okay so um there was a couple other ones but they were both so so kind them I write them all down um CBA 345 was Data dashboards which we were just talking about data and uh I have to admit I was like I know at least there was one but I wasn't sure if they both were on there so everybody got my little picture on there

075that we have both of those on there so um the key thing with data is um that we use it and if it is anything that's bad we still want to use it so we learn from it and see what we can change you know not hide it per se um keep things simple not cluttered and uh color is always a good thing with um your graphs and that it it attracts uh much more eyesight to them and um the uh um sorry because Mandy I know you want oh okay uhit Falls that was one of the things I was trying to think about is that um sometimes it could be just too much of like test scores win loss records but they said the the best challenge of a dashboard is when it's both

076productively for the board and the staff here's the Pak thing to promote a continuous improvement with students that's the big thing so you know not just like oh we're doing this good but how are we going to still improve with our students so that's how that works out um then CBA 370 construction project I think it's good because you know at some typ there might be another Bond possibly coming up and basically just went down to with a project the bond counselor so that way they can work on the bond language and then um also the architect actually for design and construction manager because obviously it's better to have another group running the whole program per se so that way we're not stopping every five minutes um because you know we know our Administration aren't

077just sitting doing nothing so right try to get I am so glad conditioning is at works also go she's not reading everything so good and next summer is the other two builds and then um the other two cbas the open meetings act the media relations I'm not going to lie you my notes because it was the weekend before Halloween yeah and then it was the weekend of Halloween then a weekend Halloween party so everything got moved and I gotta find it so that's why that's going to be at the next meeting so it's at the Halloween part well that was at my house so I know it's still there nobody want I thought that too but no that made sure I made sure nothing was by the dog um but the general conference um as

078a speaker they were both really good very um getting you into the spirit and one phrase that they also mentioned was uh strength of the wolf is the pack and the strength of the pack is the wolf so that was something that and um that's how I kind of felt about our district that it's uh our district has made many of our hard workers in our district and those workers are um also what have created our district so it's reciprocal um then some of the meetings I went to uh you know those little sessions and that uh turning adversaries into Advocate basically it was just more of like what can we do what should we be doing um basically a couple key ones respond don't react pause prior to replying to an email and then

079uh Do the Right For All kids that was good and then clarify and seek to understand and then um try to find the reason the person has their their concern uh another one I went to was from oh that was one thing that I kind of did there was something that I really wanted to go to but when I found out either Tanya or latata were going to go to those classes I went to a different one just so that way we could get the most advantage of the of the conference um from awareness to action that basically um just spoke more on um uh that it's not all necessarily about uh oh it's about mental health and then in return what it was was you know what's the major cost factor and you know

080it's not money it's more about the time that you know everybody gets affected by that um and then recognizing the warning signs early is a huge important factor with that um one of my favorite one was on boarding successful new board members and uh there is a district that g showed us what they have and they have like they literally have a check sheet with things of like that each board member can go and watch on their own to through masb that's free that they can learn a little bit more and all that so so that's something I'm going to try to design and hopefully you know present to the board and see if they like it that cuz I think that'd be really good um and then um the uh uh I'll stop on

081there oh um and then uh they were there was also talk about stuff with objects oh I bet you that was supposed page sure was back to the DAT dashboard I rest my case what's that I'm I I appreciate this report immensely in the fact that you're not reading to us yeah yeah it's a great report thank you I mean sincerely was also that the community expects the board to deliver on the Promises while being financially responsible fiscally responsible so that was the big thing um and then the last one I have yep oh there is two um second from last cell phone policy uh went to that one that was great there was three districts Trev City fir Novi that are using this yeah and you would think there's going to be a lot

082of resistance and there actually wasn't um and they did notice an improvement in student interaction and grad so that's hopefully something that policy might think about or you know we might think about yes yeah that was one that I like I'm sorry I want to go to that one so that was that's big big for me and then last thing was um understanding the impact of childhood trauma and um they gave uh an example of an experiment and uh since I remember it's really simple they had a mice but they had a mouse that they would give it a scent first and then they give it a shot I know yeah it's not nice but and then it would induce fear that was it's experiments you know I didn't do it someone else did this

083but it was a live mouse did they to you know not in the class not in the school but it was an experiment it's just general experiment that somebody did somewhere oh okay I thought they did this at the conference it was a controll experimental environment yeah no this was not scen this was this was an explanation of an experiment that someone did gotcha not but they doubt though is that when they would do the scent then that Mouse would anticipate the fear because of the shock which more classic P La is what it kind remind me right but what they did is the next generation of the mouse which I call the child Mouse they didn't do anything to it you know they didn't do any sense or anything when that generation happens so

084be second generation after they just did the scent exposure and the mouse reacted in fear like it did on the first one mhm so so that was one thing that they were talking about with um it's uh called epigenetics and that's something that's kind of newer now that they're kind of uh working in so I just thought that was interesting that um they're doing that so um that's kind of the nutsh like I said at the next meeting I'll do the 243 and 252 thank you any questions no good reports guys yes sure on the onbi good report first of all but on the on in process instead of you working on it solo I just would like to work on it as a person who was a new board member who felt like she

085was misguided completely wrong I think I have lot of insight on what can help a new person coming in and I also would hope Mandy was open to it because that's who I went to when I didn't feel like I was getting properly on boarded I went to Mandy and she helped me like she had everything like I don't know where she stores this stuff at but between her and Virginia it's crazy how much I got when I had just one question so if both of them one of them to bring the historical context with the new context of what you got from the presence I think you got to trifect it that um make it amazing well that's why what I want do is kind of put a little bit together what I've learned

086from that class and then bring it out oh yeah no no well that part I would need to only because I got that information but other than that then we can all add on and okay yeah because I remember the paper binders are very intimidating which it's a lot different now so yeah intimidating and accurate kudos to Susan and Eve yes uh that's all I got uh anybody else have anything for other business yes trusty wi us um just before public comment started I wanted to point out um your in Mark's District point of Pride he might even be doing this in the Kudos but there was a lot of pictures from the PTO District by trun or treat so we mentioned the other like Halloween things but I I know he's not forgetting that

087I know what's coming up but I just want to make sure before comment start that PTO did a great job on the trunk treat and it was amazing the pictures are beautiful I didn't get to make it but the pictures are absolutely a beautiful thank you for sharing and you know why I put pictures in there right why so I don't have to take oh yeah pictures I'm sure didn't even do it justice but I'm sure yeah but thank you for for it was wonderful about you didn't forget so I wanted them to know you didn't forget that yeah you could you couldn't find a parking spot it was that awesome amazing I it was so good that it reduced the number of kids out in Halloween yeah that was problem oh yeah that's true

088they get so much yeah I have so much left over I like next uh is email complaint process so I know and this is not a wall situ situation where it's like a rolling General president type deal when I first got on board I had a concern about the fact that when complaints go through the president it stays with the president unless it says that it wants to go to the full boards but the problem I have with that is it's been creating a bottleneck and it's done it the whole two years that I've been here so going into my last two years I really want to see something different like more fresh ideas that we can come up with as a board to address this concern because then I get people I don't know

089how everybody else feel but I'm really involved in the district and I'm here like all the time like so I get people that run up to me and they say I submitted this to the board and what they mean is they submitted it to the board president and they don't know that if it doesn't specifically say that it goes to the whole board they don't know our internal process and maybe they should but they think that they sent it to the whole board they did not and maybe it's something you handled or whatever but I don't even get like a a email with a concern how Mark handled how you handle it or anything until these people like running up to me like you didn't do nothing or we had to wait for this person

090so we have to find a different way than it just staying with the poor president that's whether I'm president Mandy president whoever it's just it's a bottleneck that that should not exist because it can exist in order for us to have a functioning board because then it makes me feel like there's things happening which I know that's not the intent but it makes me feel like there's things happening big that are in the district that I'm being held out from and I got more access to it as a parent or as a Community activist than I do as a board member and that feels weird for me it it always makes me want to switch hats and hit that Podium so and we want to Mee stay here at this table and we got to

091figure out a different way us so I do want to mention usually if I get something obviously it's not going to be me anyways if it's a parent situation it's so usually I'll just forward that and I'll explain do is going to get forward to superintendant because that's what it is now there has been some time that I have asked a member you know a parent is it okay if I forward this or share this with the board and then if they say yes then I forward it I usually take the name out just so that way you know that that stays out of it but then that way the board's about it but you got admit I haven't really received anything if I did I'm not aware of it you know but but that's

092what to say now the other thing I do want to ask if if somebody has something from the board that they forward to me if you want you can put on there please share this with the board or please don't share with the board um because then of course like if somebody's not going to be present I always ask do you want me to give a reason why you're not going to be at the meeting or do you want me just say you're not going to be present I try to ask you know because I don't know the answer and I don't want to make the wrong mistake you know so that's why if you got something you would like me to share with the rest of the board I'd be happy to just even

093put it in there and say please share this with the board yes trusty d to miss wless Point um if a parent was to send in um a question or a complaint or whatever I know the process everyone knows the process that goes through the channels but I think what she's saying is then there's really no follow up with us on what was resolved how it was resolved who contacted the parent so if you're out in the district and someone runs up and you're like well I don't even know anything about this I also had that happen to me where someone was said did you heard about this and I'm like uhuh n don't even know what you're talking about so you know I and I it's not a reflection on the communication that we

094get from Mark you know we get a ton of that you know it's just it's instances where someone might complain or someone might have a concern and just then what happens with that so that we know okay so know I think it's that yeah okay I could do that yeah and I and you know I think too when you know when a board member has a complaint um I think it's important that we're all heard and I I think it's important that if you do want to share that you you do share it but then also the response back you were really good at that thank you um and I do think it's important that we all know what everyone else knows and we all know how everyone else is feeling and um it's just

095a good good way to do that if you have a compl uh complaint or even something good to say that's always a nice thing too you know so uh just that sharing with every sure thank you and like I said if it's something that feel like hey please share this I appreciate that because that'll even make me better to be like get that out there right away even you know I had a process when I was President where if you had questions for you know you looked at your agenda and you might have like four questions to send them to me then I would send them onto the superintendent who would then answer them for the full board it wasn't like your questions everyone had to know you were the one asking the questions but

096if you had them them everyone was walking into the board meeting with the same knowledge of everything and not getting hit at a meeting with questions that you know nothing about or you didn't know they were asked or you know they were asked and answered and you're the only one that knows that so that's another another good process to have in my opinion and I and I try to do that like I said I'm not perfect I'm that it's not it's no no right no you're just say right but I'm just I'm just saying just in case someone goes hey I know a good example but um what I to say though is that there are sometimes I do send emails saying I have a member who mentions this without saying the name because that

097that really is not the factor the factor is just what the concern is right right you know so but yeah if you see like I'm uh falling off or some let me know be happy to corre I don't know that you're falling off because it could be people never send an email I I don't know right I just know that I would like to be clear Among Us that we all want I want we all that and we understood process and that they understand that unless they specifically say I want to share this with the whole board if you know you you follow up and ask them that question but they need to put it in the email especially if there's wanting it to go to a specific board member and they want that specific

098board member to be aware of it then say that in the email so that you know you know what to do essentially I do I do like um also that if we can ask questions in advance anything on the agenda if you're getting answers and then you're going in we're all going in with the same knowledge of what the information is that's being because one question you might have yes somebody else might have and I'm not trying to Squatch the conversation that takes place at the table because that's very informative and important too but sometimes it's I need a little more time to think through what you might have asked and the answer that was given to kind of process how how we want to vote and think about the issues before so good talk

099yes trusty G yeah I think I'm hear okay can you guys hear me now or no because that was weird so I think I think I wanted to share my experience when I was President too when there are a lot of legal issues and it's a lot of things you have to piece together like it takes time for that information to come in because you're waiting for so many things if it's a multi-layer resolution so I would just encourage your board to be patient at times because if it's a layer if it's a matter that has to go through a lot of channels and a lot of layers you have to piece everything together that takes time because not everyone responds promptly right and I think that's something I want for to remember but you

100can also send an email just asking for update I think that's one of the issues I have is the legal stuff I disagree if the legal stuff should wait till you piece it all together because the problem even with the name I won't mention but the problem with that situation was was legal and things were being held from the rest of the board so the board took action under their own and that's to avoid bottlenecks and to avoid situations like that we have to find a way to Clue the board in easier and faster on even legal situations it has it has to happen to your point I agree ideally you do want it quick but sometimes people just don't respond quick enough and I don't know the answer for that because you can't control

101for how other people communicate I would suggest is if like someone says hey what's the update I think I would just say no there is no update just so at least you can reply yeah also or sometimes the update is that you're contacting the lawyer I think even when you contact a lawyer you should notify to us what questions you asking we be in charge that and our constituents want us to answer questions people who put me in here they want full transparency so like when you are contacting the lawyer that's something we need to know why you contacting the lawyer if it involves one of us you have to to leave one of us out that's cool but everybody should know what's going on when it's lawsuits or anything pertaining to this board business

102that we all got elected here to do we all were elected here well we were're here we're here so we all have the same On The Board responsibility and to our constituents because they all become our constituents once we voted in so we have the same responsibility we have to find a way to get this information to those same people because any one of us can be board president at any time so the whole I gotta keep it in a secret that's not goingon to get you nowhere especially with a person like me okay anything else under other business just one last thing and I hope it's quick but um me and Mark talked about it a little bit but parent concerned about the town hall or this boot system because I'm tired of answering

103questions about the boo system I know I put it in place but I'm not the boo system man and I'm not um m Mark here and y'all causing trauma and these people scared or something but I know Mark is on it and there some videos coming out and something but these people on my head about the boot system now so are you planning to do a yeah to point yeah so right now we're still as I said we're still do dealing with issues with the whole across the board so um we are working on some videos that we're putting together um did I did some little videos but um then we'll look at communication approv meeting we get together so we're still in the I call even today we had there're still learning phases of

104the whole system TR again yeah mine is really quick too I believe the board had asked for the student ambassadors to come back so I just wanted to throw that back in the mix and step away from it and leave it to Administration okay friendly reminder yes that was one of the meetings they we discussed that at the conference about student ambassadors lot of districts I don't know if you need a verbal on that but I also three I don't know how many you need but I also age with the I know I know fire boards liked it very nice it did take away some of um marks having to all that yeah D yeah d sa your voice a little bit yeah did any other business no sorry all right at this point then

105we're going to go to public comment number two uh oh that was one more thing I'm sorry another bit from the confence one of the things that they also talked about and that was actually an open meetings act about there is kind of a quick little phrase to say that just just kind of explains you know to the public you know obviously you're allowed to say whatever you want but just to let you know that you could be responsible for certain things if you um are incriminating somebody so that was one thing that I learned in the open meetings act so um say that again lost yes yeah I'm lost so so in public comment usually there's something about like you know addressing the board you know uh don't address a particular staff member and

106that um so there was a little blip that they had that um I'm G to forward everybody just ask what their thoughts are on that it's just something that it's a simple thing you could read but not the long thing that we had to read before so it's the public that or the public right it's just it's just basically and once again you're not stopping them from saying anything it's just you're just letting them know that says it in our policy can't not supposed to you know U mention a staff member's name or right right but sometimes somebody new might be coming up and not realizing that so um either that or if it's like posted somewhere so I think you can pick it up you can yeah there's public the policy is right outside

107the door and so anybody that you know it is there we do provide it for people all right yeah but I understand what you're saying right just yeah okay with that uh we're going to go to public comment or for any general public comment any public comment to come to the board state your name and your affiliation with the district there are sheets that if you want some type of answer you would just fill that out just right I'm just say so that way if there's something that you would like to work greetings uh ladies and gentlemen of the board my name is Jerome Rian from Jan's dad and U first time visitor you know occasional viewer as far as online uh came today because uh I see the count okay because she was coming

108today to perform and I just wanted to share something as a parent and spectator football season is over I'm very well you know and regardless of how our season this year has been you know uh Mr Mallette needs some help you know because uh stereotypically or you know we don't have as many fires as other students or other districts and other schools but there are still Fighters and a lot of times he's just one man chasing this way running this way running around party I mean last the last game he was running completely around party and the the playground and running around to the front of the school there was like a whole cluster of students and he's just one man they completely ignored him regards of what he was saying like you can't go

109back in there you can't do this you can't do that and they was like whatever sir you know and even when people were you know so I know it's a police presence there you know I know sometimes it's like one person maybe two officers there but I don't know what's in the budget I don't know how you guys normally do things but uh he needs some help you know I don't know if there other teach other teachers that could stick around as far as like more of a security presence you know or if you guys can develop a budget or you know a fund or something where they can hire security guards to kind of Patrol certain areas like under the bleachers and sometimes the parking lot maybe the playground next to the school over

110at party but it's just kind of he's working all day you know from 8 to whatever time he comes in to the end of the class day or the class you know school day then he has to go to the game and then all you see him is I'm talking to a couple people then it's be chasing off somebody you know so and uh especially now um there the kids and sometimes you know uh they start to become a little bit more disrespectful you know so they you know confront them or challenge him to his face and pretty much you know show that they really don't uh respect his authority you know as a principal of all things you know so uh if there's something that can be talked about in the future because like

111I said this season's over uh I got more kids coming up you know so I'll probably be at more football games you know it's different compared to the middle school because at most of the middle school games is more parents than it is student at high school you know especially it's you know it's a hangout you know especially it's outside weather's still warm so people just hanging out I've been to the basketball games you know so the basketball games is not as you know as indoors you know there are a lot of more teachers around and you know stuff like that so it's not a lot of commotion except when we have certain rivalry schools come rival schools comeing town but um he needs some help and that's all I just want to say Mr

112Mallette needs some help out there you know more presence uh uh authority figures to to kind of keep the students in line you know as what as making sure that I believe they have a policy where middle school students are not supposed to be there unless the parent is there I know you know I know you can't keep tabs on everything you can't keep tabes on everything but if there was a a greater presence out there it'll kind of make them least think twice you know or three times before they are uh starting fires and like I said uh things that are things they would normally do at home that's all I have to say thank you thank you thank you hi guys um Barb Detroit so I want to first start off saying I

113appreciate principal for her communication to his parents after the boo was pulled for for no reason um the subs and the the teacher and the staffs need to be trained a little bit more on the system because the way that they react it's way the way some of them react isn't the best and it puts a lot of fear into kids the reason I can say this because my daughter was at um anap when the boo was just for it that was for a good reason but the way the that her teacher reacted scared the crap out her staff should not be out in the hallway trying to figure out what's going on when the boot is supposed to be pulled that's the dumbest thing I've ever seen in my life that's how you get

114killed right there and that's how the kids are going to get killed right there whether it's a boss alarm or not they should know just pull the boot that's it figure the rest out later um I also want to I want to thank the staff at Annapolis for how they they they've just been a great help with our daughter she's been dealing with the flare they've been amazing um like you said Mr Mallet could you some help there because there aren't enough people there to help like she needed somebody to carry her book bag down to the SRC that we have to wait there for like five five minutes more to for somebody to to be able to do it then if a student helps her the student catches slack I'm over that I sent

115the teacher an email I hope she understood when something's wrong with the student figure out what's going on versus trying trying trying to discipline every student is not trying to be sneaky every student not trying to lie that's not every student so they shouldn't treated that way staff should be trained on how to read IEPs in 504 PL so I'm glad you guys I'm glad you said that today but if they know how to read them then they know how to apply it to the child that way that child is getting what they need while they're in school if you don't pull the ID out and wonder I figure out try to figure out why that kid is acting why they're acting you're failing that kid because they're not learning that you're just babysitting that's

116what the staff they're babysitting they need be trained on that part I get maybe a little bit more going to take a little bit extra but they're in your class so you have to do it um why are schools having to fund raise or ask parents to ship in for everything we are not poor district is not poor the district could go to each school and say hey is there something we could help help out with I'm not sure if you guys can do that but they need help the schools need help seriously us us parents we need help especially parents with more than one kid when you have born than one kid and they're in multiple schools that's that's a lot that that's a lot of fun I need you to understand that especially

117when you have a senior I we have kids in 5ifth 8th and the 12th this is a busy year for us things aren't cheap we should the the uh PB shouldn't be coming the the PTO for for for a handout because because they need help what can you guys do to help these schools um I want to [Music] also uh thank you at staff at Beford who helps to keep our son safe he has a s on his brain so him not getting hit in the head is very very important but trying to also keep him a kid 11y old kid he doesn't know what's what's wrong with him all he know gets headaches and that and that's that's that the we make the school aware and they are doing a really good job helping

118to keep them safe they contact us if anything has you know that does happen so I'm really really appreciative about that like they they've been doing a really good job with that um Can the schools have a school nurse now a school nurse is needed like it is so in all in every school we need a school nurse uh where we work with the Detroit Network we have a do pediatrician Dr Elliot Tisha he does not mind coming to speak to you guys about why it's very important for School nurses a lot of kids a lot of kids don't have insurance so sometimes the school nurse is the only doctor or some kind of kind of doctor they will see especially immigrants we they they need help our kids need help sometimes something wrong with

119the student that they will only feel comfortable telling nurse not their parents but at least they're getting the help we need a school nurse he will come he's able to come and talk about and explain why we need one and he's available to talk about the school aism which I'm glad you guys talked about talked about that like it is very important that kids come to school it is very important that that parents know that they should get a doctor's letter St saying certain things to excuse the kids's absence this stuff is important kids being in class important so he will come and talk about that no problem I will have him email you yes no problem but yes um thank you good tonight guys this one of the most peaceful meetings we [Music] had

120thank you anyone good evening Anthony Young train Miss uh first and foremost I do want to thank the staff at Anapolis for the way that they've been helping my daughter during this time um just I appreciate it you know people don't understand how tough it is to deal with what she's dealing with and so as a family we're very appreciative um I also wanted to address some comments that were made a couple weeks ago um from those comments a couple of Bard members stood up and just gave their thoughts about a lot of the things that the district is dealing with including racism and stuff like that so I just wanted to say I appreciate uh y'all speaking up to say some just talk about the issues that you see that are kind of being

121pushed aside um I also wanted to address something there was um a board member decided to ask a question and then um just describe how she felt about the particular question and so at first I didn't I didn't appreciate it but it made me ask my own question so I decided to bring that to the board and my question is what if I was white and just so you know for those who may not know the question that was asked was what if I was black and so my question in return is what if I was white what if I was white would I still be free not in a slave type of way I mean would I still be me or would I lie and deceive and cover up these same types of things

122would I sit in the seat that's meant to strengthen our families and show unity and spread lies about the families that are trying to speak speak up because I operate as if my skin color creates immunity would I take a family's hurt and cries and twist them into a false perception that pushes the community to make that family feel despised and then when that family pushes back would I sit back turn red in the face and act completely surprised if I was white would I sit with a sour face while an African-American or a person of another race speaks truth about the things that I take place if I was white would I write a letter that tries to push a baseless lie that one family is dangerous just because the truth hurts and my

123lies feel better if I was white would I still be me would I still stand up for what's right and would I still be free the answer is yes why because some of y'all fight for what this district is and I fight for what it can be and this fight is nothing but good trouble for me I will fight this good fight no matter what color you see but that's the difference between us you're trapped and I'm free because lies keep you bound and a lie is who you choose to be so if you think you going to push me out open your eyes so you can see me because intentionally being blind is a characteristic that only screams weak thank you thank you and I never heard any else for public bring none we're

132that memo but that's what she thought and she said when they came and they gave us food um and she was talking about our culture week that uh that the that we did here they gave us food and we had hot meals she said I never seen a pantry where we had full hot meals and we were able to give give our kids different cultures of meals and so she just wanted to give a huge shout out to our lunch staff at Anapolis High School who are on the money and also our lunch staff at best um who were doing that um last year they wanted to know when it was getting started up I told her me and Mark just spend two ships in a night but um it was a huge shout out
