up for public comment on agenda items do ask for you come up if you have any concerns with agenda items agenda items only would anybody like to come up all right no comments for public agenda this time we're going to go to uh superintendent's report and uh we'll start with uh the United Nations presentation by the Anapolis high school students they' like to come up no that's okay so we're really excited today to have students come on up um and we're going to have Nadia introduce the students if you would please so these are the students from the high school involved in the model United Nations so Nadia I'll turn it over to you I don't know why [Music] they're I don't know why they're acting so shy this is not the way they actually
are enthusiasm please um so like I said last um last meeting I spoke a little bit about the modelan trip and how we went to Yale um last year some of these students also went to Harvard and then hopefully in a month they're going to Ms to compete um within the state um all of all of our friends here are Juniors except Ali he has a sophomore we have Ally we have Taylor in Cameron and their advisor is supposed to also come speak so I think she's running a little late so she'll come at the end but um without further Ado I'll let them get right into [Music] the want to grab thats I hi so M United Nations is a club to educate and engage young students worldwide in M there are conferences internationally
and they hold students from a large number of countries at these conferences all students represent delegations and countries of the United Nations and debate various issues World Below on the my left is the Yale building one of Yale Smalls in the middle is the model logo with our's name on the top and on my right with all the students is one of our meetings practicing so what is what is Heights is a volume stud it was found in 2021 it includ from Anapolis Crestwood un star International Academy we usually hold our me that Haine can be library and we meet at least twice a month um to go to conferences each delegate or M has to pay a fee and we fund the rest we can typically get um financial aid but if for that
um in 2022 we attended um Michigan St confence and2 attend H [Music] and award it was AER award working best together that's the first um at the C and then I'm the only one that went to W in22 so those are two pictures that's our old unfortunately some of them graduated so well and that's us [Music] at um the 50th annual conference on January 18th to 21st in New Haven Connecticut um on the campus of the university to get to the event we took a 1our flight from Detroit to New York which we took a two-hour sh drive that brought Haven um at we got to hear from multiple honorable speakers including former un Secretary General B Kim who stressed the importance of model un as it Fosters the Future Leaders of the world um
furthermore y m brought more than 2,000 delegates from 45 together to participate in the conference it hosted a total of seven committee sessions so that we could debate resolutions to problems there was also a Yale day where we could tour the campus and explore the city as well as a delegate dance where we could have fun and Converse with all the new people that we met um the conference was just overall an incredible opportunity to learn about things happening in our world as well as to meet different people and cultures we will now dive to our individual I'm a member ofh first year in the organization my first only certain I'm grateful conf it amazing experience you want to grab the like yeah yeah there you go sry this entire conference gave me Insight on
an independent life and allowed me to grow as a self-sufficient person um the pictures down at the left all the way is US walking to a committee um so that was that was really gave us on college campuses walk from class to class um in the middle is a y dining hall that was UN and all the way at the right is taking a picture of my committee at Yale was soent everyone was so involved with everyone and out it was a really fun and informative experience people from over 40 different countries the passion that was expressed was sorry the passion that was expressed during our was surreal um it truly brings the simulation life the RO that is my [Music] experience delates that's hello my name is camon qu I'm a junior at Annapolis
High School and this was my first year in mod um with b and preparation I was lucky enough to attend and participate in y m wi for my first ever conference um here I learned how to magnify my cooperation and Leadership skills through working with new people and discussing resolutions to our topics um outside of the actual conference I was able to explore the breathtaking City of New Haven and make Unforgettable memories with friends that I gain over the trip um VES us at the airport um the middle picture are passing through New York beautiful scenery and then of course the cus o um at y I was in the economic and social councils for commission on crime prevention and criminal justice representing the republ of gu in my committee I was able to meet
people from various countries and cultures as well as gain extensive insight about the real world issues we were discussing overall I am beyond grateful and honored to have had the opportunity to attend such a prestigious conference which Le to the fostering of important life skills as well as imperishable memories hello everyone my name is reaer sister and I have been in this I've been in since the first day they started this hard work I aim to be president of this club next year I went to Muson in 2023 which was the conference at Michigan State I was the only one and after all these sen gradu I'm going to be the only one left so and she's kind of s it was called so last year we went to Harvard which is 2023 and this
was my third conference which is Yale m is something I truly passionate about and have never been something passion about and have never been ever since 9 gr and I'm able to go to jaale in Harvard since gr sorry I'm just messing up right now take your time you're you're all right I've been passionate about this since nth grade and going to Yale in Harvard tremendously helped my speaking in critic I've heard so many new things about people culture and different parts of the world all being a fantastic experience being going to these conferences so um up there is that's we Russia at Harvard and um the people next to us was Ukraine so like it was kind of like um it was it was a yeah it was like a friendly like fire and
like that super Co it was and they were from London actually and then up there is we met [Music] California country and that's [Music] ATU oh oh yeah oh it's called oh so some uh confes we plan to go next year Princeton and UC Berkeley and hopefully MSU those are some conf we're a to go for and we also um yeah those are some conf were able to go hi I'm Taylor Gabriel and I'm Junior at Anapolis and I'm the current publicist and Anapolis representative from Mod un I joined this organization uh last school year so 2022 and my first conference was Harvard where interview I was so lucky to be there L help like my speaking and comments see that and I'm G to be uh vice president next year right down there is
me at the Harvard bookstore when we were going to shop merchandise and stuff like that um in the middle is me on y day so that's me exploring the Y campus um and then there is a selfie with um the chairs from min and so delegation experience this is our second conference as a delegation as we were at H H in W our committee at w was the economic community of West African States also known as e so we we represented the country also known as the I co our committee was small contain 15 other countries with du dual delegations as well being in a small committee uh we worked graciously together we had great relationships with each country got to know that we got to hear their stances and how we could discuss our
topic and come to a resolution our chairs were new so it was an overall like it was a learning experience for me Anda and the shairs as well overall it was a great opportunity to be there um the first two pictures at the top those are our placards from Y and Harvard so Russia is from Harvard and is from Y and at the bottom is a picture of at Harvard and um on the right is us in our committee as you can see it's a very small committee for conferences like y haror the uh groups are usually like around 100 to 200 people but because ours was like a regional body committee we only had said 15 countries and so we had 30 people there so it was was a thank you all so much
for taking the time to listen to us share our Unforgettable experience at Yale United Nations we feel so honored and grateful for this opportunity and we hope it's one that many other Inspire to partake open any question um that bottom left corner right there that picture [Laughter] [Music] is many buildings now trusty gator yeah of course I just wanted to say thank you guys so much for presenting this to us today um I can tell that you guys were really immersed in this learning experience and I am personally so happy that you guys got a chance to go um and I can tell that you all modeled the D7 difference there so thank you for representing as well I guess I would want to know how can we as a community a D7 community help
you guys get more students to join Mar un okay um so we plan on um making so like you mean like anopolis yeah yeah so we want like we try to make fly we trying to get the word out there um probably with more po cuz I know there's only there's only four of us so um yeah like you just want to spread the word as much as you can get as many people to join I mean you can't take as many people at um each one but like at the smaller comp like MSU and possibly you in AR they have so like those are um those are opportunities to take larger amounts and at obviously a bigger amount but um yeah we really just want to spread the word to get more people to
join we know about on it's just us go thank you and wait also um a big thing is funing because um for us they they have financial aid but typically they don't cover everything and they don't like they're very like Pi on we were lucky enough to um get some of us covered for a financial and then our delegate fee was only $80 so everyone just paid about like their just other food their merch and stuff like that then want to get over there and then the $8 but as for everything and our luggage but as for everything covered but for future conferences like to have fun get school stuff like that gotta thank you that was it for me all right guys my name is Rea I'm one of the advisers along with Nadia
um I graduated from Crestwood class of 2023 and after I graduated I joined the club back as an advisor um so just I'm sure they already introduced the club to you guys but um basically I started it uh my sophomore year and I decided to continue on with it I really enjoyed seeing how the club here but someone gave me the wrong address uh but yeah uh wanted to introduce myself um I'm really proud of everyone that went to the I think we took 202 um so hopefully there'll be more at MSU we're planning on going in March hopefully um I think we're working on financial aid but they more funding in case you don't cover everything uh but yeah that's all we have to say thank you for your time thank you trust easn
Le so what is the cost to go to MSU and then what was the cost per person to go to any um so the cost for MSU is obviously going to be a little bit cheaper than ha because um yeah we didn't have most Financial mostly covered by financial aid uh MSU were still waiting on if we're going to get that financial aid so we can't really we don't really know the cost yet um so take it out the financial aid what would cost that's okay we usually um just have to cover hotels um last year um or no the year before last year um Bill bazzy he donated a bus to us cuz it's only about like an hour and 30 minutes away so uh usually just a hotel and the delegate Fe is
usually about like or $80 but we they haven't like clarified yet so we still have like it's to be determined but usually just a hotel and then we try to get a bus around 8,000 for the Yale for MSU for MSU yeah so last time we went so when I was a junior I went to MSU and we ended up raising around I think $8,000 um and that was without the buses so the buses were donated to us by the city and hopefully they'll do that again for us but it's obious they album was for the 20 kids though yeah it was around no it was like yeah yeah that was the first conference so um this will be Reba's second time that and um for you we don't uh the vice president would have
more on that because she did everything for that and as well as our conference coordinator because we also have a position that does coord but um we raised had to um yeah we had to the rest we have to cover um which is like I think [Music] 5,000 thank you guys you guys did a great job glad you guys got to go for yes trusty okay so I have some questions um you said 45 countries for the United Nations is that just people from is that really people from from 45 different countries or it is yeah it's around 2,000 students that attended I think so from 45 different countries um obviously not all of them have delegations as for groups as theyig as need it um if you're coming from like France or Japan Brazil
China U literally we met some from lanon we met this was last year um we on our floor this year for yeah on our hotel floor we had people from aan we had people from the Dominican Republic we had Brazilians so yeah when they when they say like 45 different countries they genuinely mean 45 different countries even if it's just like two or three and is it like the United Nations where they wear the headphones to translate no everyone speaks English everybody speaks English of course um and then I want to go ask a question for Ali you had on your slide something about un unmonitored un unmoderated caucus what can you tell me a little bit more about that um so there's moderated cockus and unmoderated CS moderated is [Music] um okay um so
basically there are two forms of cuses so obviously you guys have the chairs they would be sitting just like you guys are um and there's a delegate so the chair would act as um we have people and everything and um basically you go on either doing moderated Pockets or un modated Pockets moderated pockets would be everything goes through this year so you ask um motion to open debate motion to close debate motion to open questions um so everything goes through the chair basically un moderated proce um depending on how much time you get um you basically can do whatever you want you can talk to whoever you want it's very chill very very big conference for me and REO so during moderated caucus we were too scared to talk mostly so during unmoderated caucus when
we could go around and not talk to the chair in front of everybody we went around and talked to other delegates like Ukraine mostly Russia and the chair looked upon us and saw that we were participating even though we weren't like much during moderate caucus we talked a lot during unmod caucus you res things like that and so we ended up winning award because of our partnership participation during that time that was by them so it can be like help thank you guys did an amazing job with your presentation and I'm um excited to see more from this group um I've been following you guys since the Inception um thanks to the LA so um I look forward to hearing more from all of you thanks guys wait a second yet for a second um
I'm just curious when you guys did do this were you guys ever separated at any point where like are you had to go one way one go the other to work on things yeah they're almost completely separated so and most of the time you'll have like three of the same um school school for us it's not school but you know what I mean um you'll have like maybe three or four of them in the same commit but most of the time they are separated like one two three or four okay thank you very good and this is just a small token of our appreciation from this board in our community for what you do going out there is amazing when I went through school I certainly didn't have an opportunity like you guys have experienced
so thank you to you folks for chaperoning and thank you students for representing D7 very well so thank you thank you I already have so much thank you very good so thank you our next presentation is all math um and so look forward to this [Music] presentation right good evening M vice president Mr President superintendent and MERS of the board my name is Ryan statfeld um I am currently an algebra and geometry teacher at Annapolis High School uh across the hall for me we got regular pre-calculus already uh and what we would like to do um is change that course catalog so that is AP pre-calculus currently there is an AP Calculus available where at the end of the year students are able to take an AP exam if they score three or better um
then depending on the University they might accept that for college credit and it's way less expensive than taking it at the University um this school year was the first school year that I know it's a fored uh adopt uh for this school year um and some others on but Cia has now an AP PR calculus curriculum that they are to offer which would allow students um who are Juniors and seniors for our system um if they would like chance at AP math uh before getting all the way to calculus so uh what this course is this is an upgrade to an existing course like I said we already have calculus this we just be slapping that label on it and introducing some of the supports uh that College Bo offers it allows college level mathematics
and for those who are going to make toe calculus um you're going to see a lot of the math that is used in medical decision making and research you're going to see stuff that happens in engineering especially with the trigonometry aspect um computer science and game design the College Board website uh says that this is a course designed for anyone who has successfully completed out of the one two and geometry which is going to be some of our Juniors and some of our seniors uh so benefits of this course right this is a new College Board course next school year would just be the second year that this is running uh it's very very new and this culminates in a chance for students to earn college credit at the end of the year they can
pass the exam um now for if you're anything like me when I was a senior in high school I took AP Calculus for one single reason I originally wanted to be an English teacher but I knew going to Eastern or wherever I was going to go most teacher prep programs that's a whole story um but I took at calus my senior year for the sole purpose of trying to get that three so I could just be done with math After High School okay we have AP Calculus right now but we could also have a pre-calculus in case calculus maybe feels Out Of Reach or maybe students are just not going to be able to get that far during high school maybe they do alge one freshman year Al two sophomore year right pre-calculus at senior
year if it's AP gives them that chance still to be done with math After High School if they need their gen requirements move on other things some money like that now if they're a sophomore okay who has completed Algebra 1 12 in Geometry they want to take pre-calculus their junior year that gives them an extra year of getting used to the AP supports like there's an AP classroom with progress checks for the cores and other tools and videos from college board gives them an extra year of that if they do take calculus that they're already used to all those tools by the time they get there um if they take pre-calculates they decide they don't want to continue on calculus that still gives them an off ramp into statistics and gives them that experience gives
them that college credit potentially um gives them that chance to see that um but the pre-calculus is really this gateway to a bunch of stem careers so I tell people all the time you want to make lots of money they hey learn some math learn pre calculus that's engineering that's computer uh design things like that um that do do not require a college degree by quickly but it also lowers that barrier for AP math so you don't have to make it all the way up to calculus in order to credit um and it shouldn't be that hard of a curricular shift um I say this because I have taught pre-calculus before um I have taught calculus and pre-calculus when I worked in Garden City I actually rewrote pre-calculus and calculus from the ground up because
they had both been taught by a guy who had just retired both of those books were like 30 years old when I took over those courses so um I've updated these courses before um our current pre calculus teacher I've been you know putting my hand out there saying hey I can support you on this I have experienced with this course so if I'm teaching it I've got the experience already if I'm not teaching it I can support the person who does uh the skills of the units if you go into the curriculum and exam description which is standard for every week course these are the units that they're going for so uh the first unit is going to be polinomial and rational functions that's the math of farming and medicine it's also the Bedrock upon
which we understand calculus for the students who AR going to take it unit two is exponential and logarithmic functions you remember I'm sorry but we're going to do a flashback to 2020 if you ever heard of the phrase flatten the curve that flatten the curve math is what we were going after this is the math behind epidemology it's behind the uh what's it called that measures earthquakes the rular scale um it's also in human forgetting and the patterns of that behind compound interest rates and chemistry and radioactive decay if you've ever heard hey we know this fossil is 50,000 years old well exponential and logarithm functions show the math behind where we get that plan from unit three gets into trigonometry and polar functions this is behind anything cyclical like Seasons the way the sun
moves um as well as radar so um those are the three units that show up on the exam I tell everyone pre-calculus is basically algebra 3 plus a deep dive in trigonometry and that's where all of that engineering calcul uh to make this course happen like I said we since the course description currently just has regular pre-calculus we do need the board's approval for to become the calculus um there is an AP Institute where we would have to send qualified teacher um we need to obtain some of the resources the teacher Kix train is going to receive some of that uh we may or may not probably would like to adopt a formal textbook because right now to the best of my understanding pre calculus is I don't think we have a regular textbook for
it we do have a curriculum for it but we can normalize that more and we'd like to promote it to students and actually get on the schedule for next year uh when I brought this up with the principal and the counseling team at Anapolis we uh I received instruction to I'm teaching geometry so I've got a lot of the sophomores and the Juniors who potentially take this course next year I was told to gauge their interest and we definitely have enough interest for anthy calculus to run next year um and have it not be Hey look it's three kids in that class we definitely have enough to run one if not two sections of this next year so thank you very much for your time and I offer this course for your consideration any questions
so I'm going to your last your last slide of making it having train and qualified teacher you are a qualified teacher are you not I am um obtain resources um that would be going to The Institute you said it would be going to The Institute and uh depends on what s of curricular materials we want so the AP college board is going to have some progress checks and some AP videos but if we wanted a new book I have um like the book that I use in Garden City I know I absolutely loved I Sho for we did cor C we did all of that there is a program I would recommend like my professional recommendation um and it comes with a program called Web assign great thing about web assign there's a couple of
things um there it comes with a six-year license and so it comes with an ebook for it so kids don't want a physical book they can have access to that book it's got interactive things in it's a really nice little program it can customize some of the questions so this uh instructor can build those assignments as the instructor builds those assignments there's actually a little nodule on it that tells the instructor how many students who answered this question across let's say the whole country how many students got it right or wrong in the first try that's going to help the instructor to generate conversation in the classroom um it also gives the students immediate feedback one of the really biges mod math education is trying to make it not hey here's notes do the homework
next day or two later here's your feedback finally let's see if you got it right or wrong now web assign is going to give them that feedback right away uh which is a really powerful tool for the students sometimes there's a try again there's a whole bunch of those online features that F us um when we adopted this with web sign and that textbook um in Garden City for a six-year license and a classroom set of books it was less than $10,000 um after inflation and it's been a couple years later I would expect it to be a little bit more than that so I'd have to get a quote from I believe it was sage and a r from company in order to give you a hard number on that okay my next question
um have you been to the Institute I have not been to the Institute I have looked at when there are some schedule there are some physical ones but that would involve a flight and a hotel there are some online institutes that the teacher who goes to should be able to attend that was you know no flight no Hotel nothing like that thank you so much any other questions from trustees very quickly Ryan thank you so much and obviously your zest for math is awesome I love it I love your energy so we transitioned at school I was at last year um to this um AP Kel and actually the difference was one chapter from the original just pre- to AP preal and of course the College Board monitors all of this and you have to
teach to to it for it to be AP pre you have to teach college board so Ryan you're exactly correct that there will be an adjustment to the curriculum moving to this um but and we did send a teacher to The Institute over the summer to get trained to to move forward with that so um it was a teacher kind of like you fired up and ready to roll so right thank you so much thank you job ran just a quick little followup um if you poll 20 20 policy 2220 that talks about adoptions of of new courses certainly the board does have to adopt that so um we'll get this as an agenda item to you folks okay we ready to move on okay earlier this year we had a presentation on netrix and
Peter was here this is Peter solar welcome Pete he uh presented to you folks um and we're going to update a little bit and why why he's getting ready just a a couple of things so things have changed and he's going to explain that since he grew the end of this school year with idex so if you recall he presented and we thought you know maybe it's it's better we've already paid this money well things have changed Peter Peter's going to talk about that um and so I'll turn turn it over to you awesome thank you uh president mam vice president disting board members uh superintendent yeah actually a lot has changed in a very short time period right um so when you think about IEX mric We Are One organization now so September 1st
of last year we actually acquired idex um in in their entire customer base and the power that that brings to Michigan school districts and actually School District Across the Nation is incredible when you think about companies like ours right we're out there in the marketplace we're developing a product idex is developing a product right and you're developing those kind of parallel but you know without any connect communication right we felt that would be better to join Powers right to Build a Better Stronger more efficient product for school districts Across the Nation and that's what we ended up doing what that does for customers is it gives them a solution really around multiple areas now around things around the financial and academic side um early warning module so a lot of other functionality goes into this
solution now um and like I said we did that September 1st of last year uh in the state of Michigan alone we now work with over 400 districts across the state of Michigan we have contracts with 32 isds now across state of Michigan next we work with about I think it's the number is 25 districts in Wayne County and about 26 districts in in Oakland County now so a lot of districts utilize the platform I'm not sure how familiar you are with theatric or idex or the two of them I know you had idex um as I said we acquired idex but really these are performance analytic Solutions sry see these are tools that are out there to help the district um measure performance right so as you think about when you're working on setting
strategic goals and Visions for the district right and you're out there and maybe it's something like you want to increase um achievement so you're looking at where do we need to place resources is it you know in Staffing is it in instructional tools where where that where that where might that be right and what we do is give you the ability to do some compare and contrasting within your region specifically So within the area here but also with similar districts across the state so looking at districts with similar similar freeuse launch count those types of things to see what they're doing right and where they're at and doing that that analytics and that performance gauge against those districts right or maybe looking at your constituent districts around you that may be school of choice that
you may be picking kids up from or losing kids to and understanding that as well as you're looking at that performance right um sometimes it's uh simply performance about informing your community right so we have Tools around transparency we have tools around Public Safety drills we have a lot of different Tools around compliance issues to help districts as well even things like 31a reporting or or our product is compeed in the state's my tip system so as you're going through your school Improvement planning making that process easier for for building administrators as well too one of the key things that we worked on as we were talking to Dr Finny and your superintendent was how do we work with the district in kind of rightsizing the acquisition right so we looked at what's left in
the idex contract we want to credit that back to the district so that you if you when you migrate right you're not can actually be double paying but then I actually started to work with Dr Finny and we started to look at what type of Grants were out there right um in the past I I believe I correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the idex was coming out of your general budget right so what we're doing now is working we have grants now they're going to cover this so this cost is not going to come out of your general budget anymore it's going to come from Grants as the state is providing um and we're able to do that because of the addition of our early morning module that we launched last August
which really looks at real time data for students around attendance Behavior grades and assessments and you actually are able to set the criteria at the building level to very quickly identify students that may be at risk and the system will email alert the educator the student is at risk in any one of those areas so that you can intervene faster right so you'll you'll get us you'll get an email that says hey the student went from no risk to low or low to medium or medium to high it's time to go engage with that student whether it's a behavior issue attendance issue grades or assessments we know some of this data is leading into indicating data but sometimes it's lag indicating data and a lot of times if we're looking at course grades and we're
looking at the quarter in the semester not looking daily right or we're looking at assessments by then it's too late right or if we're looking at attendance it's end of the month or the end of the quarter right again too late we need to be looking at this as leading indicators so as that risk is changing being able to quickly go engage that student so you can set the system up for who can alert multiple Educators maybe a principal maybe a counselor maybe a social worker be a treny officer right and a lot of the funding that we're looking at is specifically around that that early warning piece and that academic piece as well but understand as a goal and I share this screen because when we talk about people that use mrics across the
district it really is everybody our goal is to break down the data silos that happen in District so you've got like Finance over here and they live in a bubble right and you've got HR over here they're kind of working in their bubble in cule accting and curriculum right technology and our goal is to kind of break down those data silos and show a district how spend affects achievement how does achievement then affect enrollment right and if we're looking at enrollment how is enrollment adjust my staffing needs right do I need more or less but it isn't just usually one data point you need to get into you need to look at multiple data points to be able to have those in one places because if I'm looking at enrollment and I'm trying to understand
how that may affect Staffing there's some things I need to understand right as my enrollment my enrollment may be decreasing right but as it decrease I may be picking up students that are higher at risk those at risk students come with different needs right so I have to bring on staff I may have Federal funding for that so you might look at that and go wow we're declining our staff should be declining not always the case so there's always a way to dig deeper into the data all of that is located in the nric system so as you're analyzing that you can see the full picture of the district right whether it's Finance academic right or early morning I will look [Music] questions prestig Gator yeah I just want to make sure for myself and
thank you president wall when we received the first presentation and we were comparing idex to munetrix if I'm saying that correctly it was that idex did have some of these functions but it was more outdated was hard to navigate it wasn't user friendly and it didn't give as much functionality as this am I understanding that correct yep that is correct okay thank you that was it they they actually did the financial module and parts of the academic module there tool was was not embedded in the myip system it also they didn't do the individualized fre Improvement plans or they didn't have a 31a reporting piece which districts have I mean the 31a has been incredible we've had districts we have a district not far from here that's about 3,300 kids and they were under counting
their 31a with kids by 1,400 kids each one of those kids is dollar value for district right that's Revenue back in the district from the state so you we we we you know we take that seriously when we look at eligibility connecting kids to programs so that report can be generated very quickly and efficiently back to the state thank you I do have another question if it's okay so in terms of Grants I did hear you say it can be Grant funded and we don't have to pay for this through General funds uh is it current Grant dollars like if we were to vote for this let's say at the next four meeting hypothetically is it current Grant dollars that we have or something we have to apply for and hope and wish current R
doar be available y okay thank you and you had me I think everyone perked up when you said we're take we were paying general fund now this could be gra funded I know people looked up and there's multiple there's multiple categorical funding that districts use to pay for this so their districts will use uh 23g funding districts will use 31a funding we have districts that have used title funding um uh right now uh there is this a new grant that just literally hit this 97j that is specifically targeted at a early warning tool to help uh mitigate risk so there there's always categorical funding and anytime we can help a district um apply for that we're going to work with the districts on that to find a different way than pulling it out of your
general fund because there's I'm sure there's a million other things that you've got to do with that money exactly and um in the memo in the packet I think um Dr PNY does specifically mention the 23g grant uh my kids back on track in the section 97 J grant that you just talked about that that we could pull money to cover this funding thank and it comes with training too right yes absolutely and and it isn't I always training is is for us it's not just a moment in time know we come in and we will do the training with the staff and training the staff but a lot of times it's the additional support after that right so um every district is assigned an implementation manager that person is a a phone call away
a drive over to the district to help right and there is an additional cost for that so if you need some assistance call us we always tell people too that as you're even as a board if you're if you want to understand something we had one District that came to us and said what's happening with our kids when they graduate we want to see an analysis postsecondary of our graduates and we want to compare that to other districts so we actually did that we looked at that we did an analysis postsecondary how many kids went to college first year right how many kids SE next year the next year after that how many kids continued in college many dropped out of college how many ear an associates degree because they were in an early college
program here in school right how many won an award right so we worked on a lot of that for that District we've done things like that we've done Transportation analysis for districts right um we do a lot of bond work for districts and helping them identify a lot of data that they need as they're applying for Bond so there's a lot of additional work that we can help districts out with as well CL thank you thank you any other questions from TR I would just add so um so Dr Finny um has been working these grants quite extensively I know Peter she's been working with you to try to make sure that this covered in the board packet it is the the actual quote and I did want to make not noticed that they credited
back what it will cost for um idex through the end of the year now we could stay with idex through or at least that piece of it Dr Finny wanted me to add that she sees the Power of this in that ews tool that we can use to identify our kids that are struggling and so if there's Grant dollars out there to help us assist in that um I know Peter that's what she was really excited about and bringing this especially as you go into this this this is kind of like a Cru part of the school year right as you're going into this going into this part of the school year you know as you as you look towards you know potential summer school right is to to look where uh students may have
deficiencies right that tool is going to help you and guide some decisions around who needs to be in summer school where should some of our Focus be right where are our relative strengths our relative weaknesses across the district and and what you what you be looking at for for content for for summer school right so a lot of that um information can be ganed from the system as you move forward into into you know the rest of the school year I I do have one question so it's usually based it looks like it's based on the enrollment numbers correct so if there's a well I got answer that my question but I guess my question is um I don't know that's my question I I can give you it so typically I was just trying
to figure out if there's going to be like a major change at all you know it right up or down right that so what we usually do with the enrollment is we kind of use it to kind of set the price right if if your enrollment jumps by 150 students we're not going to call you up and say hey roll's up right likewise if you dropped by 20 25 students you know so we we use that as a balance the only time that we would work with the district is all of a sudden if you you know let's say you did some marketing you got 500 kids and pulled out a Deerborne right um chances are we wouldn't even talk about that till the end of the contra contract and then we when we write
the new contract we would look at your enrollment at that point in time so we you know we're not um a company that's going to you know we're not we're not going to split hairs on stuff like that right our goal is to help Educators we I come from a family of 31 Educators myself U my wife works in Farmington my daughter works in Waterford I met my wife when we worked in Farmington so um you know we're here really to help kids in any way that we can and give data to districts help them make strong decisions thank you any have questions thank you so much thank you have a great evening thank you than you okay moving on I did want to update everyone on the um Hulk ele Hulk Elementary gas leak
in the boiler update um we became aware of the gas leak that um at the end of the day on the 29th um and so when we came became aware um DTE was called immediately came in turned off the gas um did pressure checks we found out that we had some areas that needed to be repaired we had uh Quint Plumbing and heating come in um with their folks they worked on that uh project all day basically it resulted in um taking some of the pipes apart and re uh putting them back together and re fitting those the fittings and redoing those and so got that work all done um um was really concerned about the time that it would take to get that building um up to speed in terms of heat it was
it wasn't freezing but it was cold that building was cold same thing with the administration office so some of us were working with our with our jackets on and that kind of stuff but um we finally did and um many phone calls to DTE to get them out turn the gas on we got that taken care of they came the next morning inspected everything turned it on allowed the building to heat up and then of course we were ready to go for the next day so I just want to update everyone um on that project I do thank all the parents for their patience um I want to make sure that it was safe um and that we were good to go now with that I've also talked to the folks that um do the
the boilers and I've uh requested and we're setting a plan that they're inspecting all of our boiler rooms and all of our boilers to make sure that they're functioning effectively and so um that process is ongoing so I want to update everybody on that any questions I just wanted to give you a compliment because I do know how many calls you were on and how long you were on hold trying to get DTE back out so but that is something that uh we also working on to make sure we don't have anything like that hopefully happen again yes exactly I preached out to DTE um we've been assigned to rep now and so hopefully it'll be a one shop call the next time hopefully we won't have any of those kind of issues but we
kind of taken care of that so thank you for mentioning that trator yeah sure and I want to be very careful how I word my question but it's because I was a previous member on the building and sight committee was this something that cuz I can't quite recall was this something that was like an ongoing issue and something waiting to happen for leaks or like boiler issues or this is something that happened all of a sudden nobody could prepare for do you understand what I mean yep great question um This was um more of the latter something would I just want to make sure we were and I question him about that specifically you know I'm like we got a couple areas that need to be fixed is that unusual and yeah and the guy
said this this happens um and so um but it was nothing that could have been foreseen got it thank you for [Music] that okay the next item is uh the bids again just wanted to update everybody on what we're doing with bids um the auditing bids for our auditor um the RFP was put out on Janu January 22nd it will it's due back on February 23rd Dr get singer is um guiding that process um the goal will go through the administration will review we make a recommendation our goal is to have that to you by March 6 and that will give the new Auditors plenty of time to set up um the sum they come in in the summer and do testing and do all of that work so um that is ongoing the Food
Service um process is a little more intensive and Dr Ginger's um assisting with this as well and it's very prescriptive by the state so when you put out food service bids there's steps and timelines and it's it's highly pres prescriptive as a matter of fact before we can even put the RFP out mde spends two or three weeks reviewing that and making sure that everything is the way that it needs to be so the plan for that is the RFP is to be out on the street on March 27th and again this is after mde approves everything the um goal is to have it back in District those bids by the 24th we um Administration will go through that we will make a recommendation seek input on that and our goal is to get that
um by May 5th to you folks so um current contract with our existing uh food service provider ends on June 30th so again there'll be plenty of time to get a transition and get that taken care [Music] of any questions and Dr gut singer's been very helpful in carrying this out yep president vice president wless or trusty W um for the food service contract um are parent input on any of the any of the vids that come in R process um typically uh what happens on that is once we get the bids then we we would we're going to have to hold a committee meeting okay um and it's typically that board committee meeting and discussion based on on looking at that so there there's not a formal um parent component to that piece it's
more of an administrative board kind of decision on what food service uh program that we'd be going with is there any way without creating too much chaos to get feedback from like the kids and the parents and the teachers just we hear feedback but I want you know get yeah I certainly would could look into that there's a way to do that um the RFP process I I do not believe calls for that the one that we have to follow with the mde but certainly I'd be open to that so um just make a note so we can look into that okay y other questions all right the next item is um Black History Month I wanted to take a little bit of time this evening to speak to this I'm going to pass this
[Music] out and I want to take a minute to read the the press release this is from um Governor Whitmer and lieutenant governor Gilcrest proclaiming February is Black History Month what I've passed out to you are the activities that are ongoing this month in our school district and the reason why I wanted to spend some time on this um I was specifically asked this question when I arrived at the district I remember the person that asked me that question and the discussion really centered around it's our diversity that makes us stronger it truly is is we all come from different backgrounds we have different experiences and it's those experiences that make us stronger that's why I really the structure of the Board of Education whether it's in this District or the neighboring District that's what
makes Boards of Education strongs we all have varing backgrounds we come together to make the best decisions so I I do want to spend a little bit of time reading this um today and this is a press release it was put out on the first Governor Whitmer and lieutenant governor Gilchrist recognized the beginning of Black History Month with the proclamation honoring the contributions of black Americans to the progress of both Michigan and the United States this month let's come together to celebrate Black Americans and black history this came from the governor black history is American history and we must recommit ourselves to learning from our past build a brighter shared future our state is played post to much black history driven by countless black michiganders who moved our nation closer to its highest ideals from
civil rights icons moton Legends policy makers action takers including Governor lieutenant governor Gil Crest House speaker Joe Tate Michigan is stronger because black michiganders and again as I had indicated we're stronger because of our diversity so they put out a proclamation I'd like to take a minute and go through this read excerpts whereas African-Americans have made significant cultural historical and economic contributions to the development of America and the American way of life and whereas Carter Woodson created the beginnings of it was a history week back in 1926 to rectify omissions of African Americans from history books and encouraged the study of history in all lives of Americans including Africans Americans and the nation in the nation's Public Schools whereas beginning to expand to a month in 1976 every US president beginning with Michigan's own President
Gerald Ford officially designating the month of February is Black History Month every year since then the celebration of black history month has been important to appreciate and recognize the crucial rool African-Americans have played in the creation of America and their inable and excuse me their in Al Cil rights to be treated equally while increasing visibility of African-American life and history the state of Michigan recognizes strength endurance Faith African-American ancestors and their struggle for Freedom plays tribute to their continuous Pursuit and overcoming injustices and as you guys may know some of you may know I was a history teacher right so we spent tons of time on this studying this important part of our history and reflecting on the burdens of of racial Prejudice and stereotypes can open the doors to innovate ideas and provide insight
into building an environment in Michigan that supports and continues efforts to combat racism strive towards racial equity and to be placed Freedom opportunity inclusiveness for everyone so during this month we should take time to recognize and celebrate African-American contributions sacrifices and bravery on their journey to Justice in our nation work together to identify develop and Implement solutions to further achieve equity in our state as well as promote Unity not only with the black community but across all individuals and communities throughout our state regardless of race religion orientation gender identity or any other expressions of identity therefore the governor of Michigan proclaims February 2024 for this Black History Month in Michigan one of the things that um I would also like to note is when you walk up to our doors and this was my I
had been coming to the district that is in the Y so this kind of catches your eye but when you walk into the administration building there's a sign that says we accept all and I just think that's so cool I tell the story this school district was one of the very first school districts that came in that there was a policy committee that included students and it included students from diverse backgrounds it was amazing so um I'm just I'm honored to be part of this I wanted to make note of this in this handout that you that I sent you'll see that there are many activities throughout all of our buildings that our teachers are working to embed black history activities into the curriculum not just as a standalone but actually into the ELA social
social studies embedded into the curriculum and that I think is important because the students then don't see this as a standalone this is who we are this is what we are we are a diverse Nation we come from different backgrounds so I was quite pleased when you get a minute take a look at that if you have questions you can call me um um I just I'm just honored to be part of this and all the work that goes in I want to thank the teachers and the administrators for um their work this month and um the stuff that they do in this area so thank you questions trusty Gator I don't have a question I gladly graciously say thank you um personally it means a lot to me to have this amount of representation
us as a board us as a community it's all about safety it's all about making each other feel good about where we are and creating the best learning environment for us all and for years to come so I definitely appreciate you acknowledging this in this way in terms of legislation and reading Pro the proclamation but also encouraging building leaders building staff to make this continue uh because it's great for all of our students so thank you to you and thank you to everyone else who's taking this matter seriously thank you any other questions or comments [Music] that's all I have okay all right we're going to move into superintend recommendations and we're going to start with certified staff appointments exhibit two in our packets we resolve that the Board of Education accepts the following certified

and then hopefully right for that then we can Poss get for the fourth so I just had to confirm with M Chism on the date thank you any other unfinished business new business any new business to bring to the board chrusty boski um so I took some masb courses over this past weekend for the winter Institute and um in one of the classes um yesterday actually I took one last night on civility which um was a really um informative class and um gave a lot of information and feedback and one of the things that they talked about was um to keep things civil board norms and um we used to have the board Norms on the table um in front of us and we haven't had them on the table for quite a while so
I wanted to reintroduce um perhaps we could get the Ford Norms set out to us and maybe we can look them over and see if want to make any changes to them if we want to make any additions to them and get those back on to the table um it will really help us remind us as a good reminder of um civility um in these meetings um one of the things they talked about was um public comment and um the way the board interacts with the public the way the board interacts with each other um nonverbal dialogue um so facial expressions body expression body language things like that so it was a really interesting class that was one of the things that they brought up was the board norms and we used to have them
on the table in front of us and I was just wondering if we would like to maybe revisit that and have them on the table um in front of us again I like just open up stuff to the board and get some opinions and comments yes I would love to have the board norms and aspirations back in front of us Serv asn't reminder for me personally and helped me to hold each other accountable to to being simple at the table I'm not quite sure when they went away cuz we kept them here for such a long time but I am a fig with it any other comments okay so what I think I'll do then is um get yeah I'm sorry sorry it is a great idea they were on the table I'm not sure
that's the document that was signed by each individual board member I think it was it's just it's a good thing to do so if everybody like I'll make sure we get it emailed out to everybody and then that hopefully that do for the next we did agree to review time and then we had it laminated on the table right pardon me for interrupting no that's okay no we'll set it out in case anybody wants anything change we can try that first yeah okay sounds good and then um okay um any other do business for the board okay let's move to District points of Pride Mr yes very good thank you so much um so points of Pride I've just kind of divided this up in areas and made some notes notes here but uh we
received a grant through Wayne Risa and again I think I've spoke to this there are tons of Grants out there um Dr Vinnie's keeping track of all these I think your spreadsheets it's huge I don't know how many tabs but um this is for the car Solis Mental Health and Social Services um app I have actually used this my district what car Solus does is a warehouse U like right now if you want to get in to see a a counselor it's could be an upwards of a month to 6 week weit caralis takes those open um appointments they Warehouse them if someone needs to see someone immediately you can go to our website click on it it's not uploaded yet but once it's once we have it you click on it and you fill
out some basic information and they set you up immediately I used it U when I was working with a family parent really wanted to get the child in came to me and said it's six weeks and so we went through that process um got that person in this is something that I initially wanted to bring to the uh citizens advisory committee that we're meeting tomorrow night and I've been a little um been behind on getting that committee going but since that time I was going to bring it to that committee CU I it's a wonderful tool um Wayne Rea bought him I believe for all the school districts so we actually saved some money by by waiting so um but it is um it is helpful and it's not just for our school Community it's
for anybody it could be it could be for your family if you know someone in your family that's struggling that needs to see someone it could be for a Community member um it's not just for our school community so um we'll get more information on that but um Dr Finny wanted me to report on that also the Health Resource um Advocate grant that came out uh we're in the process we uh hired two School nurses one that will assist at the uh work with our elementaries and one with our secondary schools Mr um Armstrong wanted me to report that special education Staffing with you guys hiring these folks um this this evening um we're back in full staff now this seems it seems to be a transient group across the state so but as of
the hirings that were completed we're fully stabed and um he's pleased that we can kind of bring some normality to that apartment and continue to move forward to meet the needs of our students in our tech department some of our board members um have worked on this and I worked on I struggle with it too this two-way factor or two-factor authentication process as you know this fishing is going on out there um Shaheen is really um working hard to try to protect our system so that we don't uh get hacked and so um he's put that in place our staff is is really worked to implement that um I've even learned the process and if I can learn it anybody can learn it so that's to protect our he calls it our digital defense and
you know we read that all these companies are getting hacked and so um if you do need assistance though Mike is here and he can help if you're struggling with that he's also in our tech department they've introduced several interactive flat panels that uh were purchased through Title One and so he's working get those set up and um get those going in our food service um the survey information kind of talking about the surveys that you know that we were talking about the ones they did for the students uh they have made some menu adjustments the breakfast for lunch is a huge hit it outsold pizzas now you can imagine that in our elementary pizz is the big seller it outsold um the breakfast on the day the two days that they served it so
trying to take some of that information and make some adjustments in our Athletic program we did have um you know our winter sports are ongoing we had three wrestlers that are League champions um so hats off to them wrestling is a brutal sport I know I coached it um I wrestled with the kids until my wife said we can't wrestle with the kids anymore cuz you're going to break your back um but it is a great sport so I may mess up these names but I hope I get them right Robert Armstrong Justin Cooper and Oscar udes I'm saying that correctly but if not um I do apologize but congratulations on them for becoming uh leag Champs at the high school Works begun on the spring play um they've been working hard to get ready
to roll that performan is in April and the title of it was and then there were none so that's the play those guys are getting ready to to go with that at ow they're focused on nwe NWA testing uh when I called Ariel the other day I had to chuckle a bit because she was in the in the library doing the make makeup tests and that's kind of what I did last year what happens is the teachers work hard to get all of the kids to go through their NWA but you always have absences and kids that miss the testing so then as a principal you bring them back and you log them in and have them do the test so they're also involved in uh PBS celebrations they're prepping for their eighth grade trip
Cedar Point and uh DC and um National Junior Honor Society applications are going out if P the focus for the month of course all of the school districts as you'll see have been focused on Black History Month activities so I didn't include these but um their focus is on love humility and the love of learning they're also doing hearing screenings PBS celebrations they're gearing up for their spelling bees which you guys know in the elementary that's a big deal party is focused on kindness they have all kinds of fun days and activities going on they're prepping for their spelling via Bedford the focus is also on kindness and doing activities um they're in the midst of Scholastic Book Fair and that's a lot of work for our library folks and putting that off the virtual
program they are actually teaming up with the kids of Bedford which I thought was really cool um working on the kindness activities NWA testing um there are three graduates um early graduates that have gone through the virtual program that have completed all of their course work so excited about that so there's some great things um going on and there is one final thing that I want to say there's a young lady sitting right over here Carol raise your hand so I want to mention something and a special thank you to Carol so every year school districts have to do the Civil Rights data collection report it's like huge it's a massive report you have to pull all this data um I'm thankful I'm the superintendent I can delegate some of that work cuz I could
never pull it off um but schools have have to do this across the state it's federally mandated Carol is not even part of her job description but this is what makes D7 great Carol I asked her to take that on she has taken that project on and she has done a wonderful job marily Le's been helping with this process kind of overseeing it um a bit and she came to me and she said Mark it's the first time that she's ever worked with someone who could send something into the state and the state and the FEDS review it and send it back without asking a thousand questions or fix this or fix that what what yes she's getting stuff back D is clean Carol please know that I appreciate it and I really appreciate you
taking that project on and and again it's that's what makes D7 I mean she's that's not part of her job responsibility she's a wizard technology but perfect she took it on um I'm just so pleased that she did that so I wanted to take a minute and thank her for that that's all I have thank you at this time I'd like to open up to the floor to public comment number two if there'd be anybody who would like to come up uh with a public comment please come on up if you could just state your name and affiliation I don't do microphones a am I close enough I could be louder yes okay great good lots of Thumbs Up okay my name is Abigail n I am a mom of three kids in the district
my youngest is four and he's at Madison and then my older two are at party um James is this is a test 10 and my middle son Owen is eight we really love being a part of D7 we are a School of Choice family so we actually live in the Westwood District but we bring him over um over to parently because we love the school we love there it's the first time I've our evental board meeting so it was really cool to see all the things you guys are doing Kudos good work um I was hoping to ask some questions and maybe give you guys some parent feedback regarding the food situation which I heard was already on the agenda when we got here um I guess I don't know for sure if you guys
know that the parents um didn't get any access to what am I trying to say um the survey that you guys did with the kids so was that just the kids I guess was my question yes okay cool so the parents I think would appreciate having some put on the food as well cuz we love our children dearly but they're going to pick a cinnamon roll for every meal of the day if it's offered um and it seems that also we're kind of struggling lately because of these two options instead of three for lunch a lot of the parents I'm hearing from are saying that we are all packing additional food every day along with what is being served and that is something that you did not used to have to do and that is
causing more um I would say Financial struggle for families in the district I know that we are a high needs District anyways so I wanted to make sure that I came and told you guys because if nobody tells you we don't get the information where it needs to go um so I wanted to say that and not be as nervous as I am apparently just nervous so thank you and I wanted to say thank you for getting nurses and thank you for hiring enough staff like Kudos Bravo thanks that's what I got thank you so much yep can say one more thing forgot you okay so if you guys need feedback from parents and you're looking for parents to survey like big hand bre I will totally do extra stuff or be involved to volunteer
all day so um anybody needs that I'd be happy to get on my phone number or email whatever it's necessary thank you thank you hello hi my name is ky Gentry I also have three kids in the system my oldest section was here and I have two youngers at R8 just to feedb back up of what she said um when they did take away the third option it really limited what my kids wanted to eat and I know I'm not the only parent that thinks that way um when they had the third option there was always something that my kids wanted to eat and we could actually use the free lunch that was provided to the district and I just feel like now that they took away that third option when they offer two option
two breakfast options for lunch so they have breakfast and then they get to other breakfast at lunch it just my kids w e it and if if the district is being touted as a free lunch District I feel like that's putting a financial strain on the parents who can't really deal with that Financial strain to make munches for their kids every day but like she said if we could be involved at all with the survey of what the kids want to eat I think that would be beneficial for a lot of parents and our kids because I don't think my kids are that but I've been sending more lunches than they have been using the free lunches so um hopefully parents can get involved in this and hopefully some other parents can speak out that
we can get this going but I would really appreciate it if parents can be involved in any way going forward with theuns thank you thank you so much anybody else for a public comment all right public comments closed we're not going to go into other business and um I had one thing that I probably should put under maybe the unfinished business but I went to the uh I didn't went I virtually the president Workshop over the past weekend and uh learned quite a lot uh from that just like this there's lots of handouts on it or you know slides and everything but so it was good because it did help me understand my role and um you know more of a facilitator not a power person or anything like that the uh the big thing
that I saw from it was transparency was a very big issue with everybody who was talking about it with regards to the board and um one thing I do want to mention is that please if you have any concerns send me the emails and because I want to be as transparent as possible but if there's something that I may not be aware of let me know you know I'm I'm definitely I always think I'm very approachable um and if there's something one on the agenda please also let me know there was um discussion about you know president working with the superintendent having a good relationship uh that that was something that was also mentioned and uh when we were talking about team building um this part was pretty interesting because they were talking about the
definition of a team being a group of people with different backgrounds skills personalities and styles with a common purpose who are working together to achieve clearly identified goals what was really interesting is there was a saying that was brought into that workshop with the credit going to Simon sin a team is not a group of people who work together a team of is a group of people who trust each other and I thought that that just like moved me big time so um and uh when I heard that that stood excuse me that stood so strong in my heart and I'm looking forward to seeing what we can do as a board to have that strong trust with each other that being said I know we're going to have our differences and hope that we
can accept each other's differences and listen with respect to each other's ideas and concerns uh I took uh from the workshop the idea of having quarterly reviews with the superintendent so that neither superintendent or board would have any surprises during the yearly evaluation I also like the idea of providing a survey to the board on how I am functioning as the president I would like to keep it Anonymous unless you want to say but uh this will keep me uh improving in my position uh which benefits not only the board with the D7 Community um and then this was something that I wanted to pass on along that her and we um looked this on the website too or someone did while we were doing this about the uh from the Michigan secretary of state
with regards to the 2024 election that's going to be coming up the filing deadline for the November 20 2024 election for the board members is July 23rd at 400 p.m. the withdrawal of the nomination is July 26 at 400 p.m. writing candidates their deadline is October 25th 2024 regular election is going to be on November 5th and then the new term of the office starts on January 1st of 2025 and one thing that I learned about which I thought was interesting and past presents I already know this but um a new person uh needs to be officially have the oath of office performed within 10 days of certification of the election results if not within those 10 days then a new person has to be appointed by the board so I thought that was really
interesting so but uh yeah so I just wanted to let you know what I kind of thought of I thought it was awesome and taking the time to listen to my voice and at this time um what I'm going to do is go into the board committee updates um at this time uh there is no updates from any of the Committees that I'm aware of at this time uh but as for meetings we do have uh I know we have the finance committee scheduled and uh but I know the it got changed and it's going to be two weeks from today and it's going to be 6:00 p.m. and it's going to either be in the teachers lounge or it's going to be in the office right across from the main entrance of O Fest
that's at 6m thank you and does anybody aware of any other yes goe is correct um that's at the administrative Board office yep all right so citizen advisory committees 7 700 p.m. sorry 700 p.m. tomorrow at the board office any other yes committe meetings citizen advisory committee should be add it to the list here and then get updates at our meetings yeah I'll I'll be happy to make sure that's on fut as long as everybody else I think it's good it's good public knowledge uh any other business to yes trust you with us um should be um I had questions about the third party contractors um I was told I wasn't sure like how to add it but for the special education position the third party contractor requirements are not the same as if they
were a district employee so for example the speech person hired at the last meeting is only working one day a week at Pary as opposed to them having person there 5 days a week or 3 days a week in the P so the children are not getting the same quality because of the hours so are we going to hire another third party contractor to make up to so I will inquire with Scott about that um so those those schedules of the social worker and the speech person are really based here's the amount of time that the students receive and then they build the schedule so what I will ask um Mr Armstrong about that okay to make sure that those kids are are receiving the amount of time that they you know pther IC thank
you y um the next was the equity Symposium and the advocacy Institute uh that I attended at the end of January I'm not doing my report today um I don't know if you guys got to see it but it's 12 Pages sorry and I'm not going to read the full 12 pages but I wanted you guys to be able to have time to read it you and I also brought you back um handouts and I gave marks some to because those are some of the programs that we can bring to the district that will push forward diversity equity and inclusion um so I just wanted to make sure everybody had you know full to be able to read over all stuff with a lot of information and not at [Music] the the other thing I
wanted to bring up was the this training um I know it Le right up at the last meeting but I was wondering now super not inter anymore if we could actually um surve yeah and that was one of the things that we actually did um as part of the presidential Workshop too was so that was there not here but yeah I got to see who I was so and um I'm just going to tell you now it's really fun because what you're going to thinking then what you do it's like wow wait a minute so uh so yeah no now that I saw that I'm going to now get more information we get that go that and then my last thing um is the civility project so I want to thank Mary Beth for pretty
much explaining what civil was um I don't have to go into that part but um we do have the two authors from Detroit Free Press who will be here on February 29th at 700 p.m. and they'll be hosting the civility project um here in the cafeteria it's open to the entire public and just wanted to welcome the for if you guys would like okay was February 29th 7.m feary 29m any other business to come to the board so um as I was sorry so as I was saying I attended um if if everybody's okay I will also present some of the um things from those classes next week next board meeting I think it's one thing that we learned is that you know a lot of these classes you take sometimes after hours and the
weekends and between that and daily living life jobs and that sometimes yeah there's a delay definitely I really I I want to I want to do the classes that I took I want to do the Justice because some of them were really engaging um one of them was really not um just as an example um one full hour was just introduction she went through every single person on zoom and made everybody introduce themselves and say a couple of things it took one hour well you got to know your fellow I guess that were in there don't say that please don't say that okay so with they any other business they brought let's go to Kudos Mandy gave me her such a tel two Alex Lane Ki maio and Amy from Marcy chopi um on January

the children have been truly enriched by your efforts to Dr Prince and missa biley Johnson even though she her last day was on the six um I just wanted to say they did an amazing job with black history month at Anapolis high school and and the black student union and all of the work that they've been doing I have not seen my daughter is so excited um for school and black history mon as I've seen her for Spirit Week um this week so I just wanted to give a those TOS to L this one is to Karen it's either labor or low I can't tell because I hear you I apologize um Karen Kaufman dated February 6th thank you for always helping me with book fair during conferences you're the best [Music] I I apologize
I do want to do just a a shout out you uh is that um to the wrestling team atapis High School I uh had the honor of going to the wrestling tournament and I you know breakfast with the family first and then you know went to the tournament I'm thinking I'm going to miss all of this did not realize the tournament goes from like 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. so that itself is a long day and uh give um kudos to all the Annapolis High School staff that were there to make sure everything was nice and that but uh the big Kudo goes to the wrestling um and AIS high school and all the wrestlers really because I I wrestle one if I was wrestling I'd be done and they're doing it all day and
sometimes there was you had a rest and rotation but there was other times that two of the schools when they were done they're already on the next Matt to do the next one so I got to give credit to all the high school wrestlers but I will give more credit to Anais high school that's where my it's where my heart is and also to Mr my hands mark because I saw him there and it was kind of exciting to him so we were actually doing the moves and the in the bleachers both of us it's a great sport so thank you time we were yelling all anybody else have anything okay at this time I'd like to get a motion to close our meeting at 8:52 p.m. oh I'm sorry at 8:52 p.m. thank you
