for shepher El here bmer here har here latach here Turner here president dookie here thank you thank you item 1.2 approval of the agenda after review of the agenda would anyone like to make any changes saying none the agenda is approved item two uh presentation of building Ferndale Middle School uh principal Mr Bruner good evening everyone even what differ year I stand before you again and grateful princip um you guys are aware of our strategic goals andas of result I kind of want to I know we have a small amount of time I want to kind of get so here we go I don't have on step so I can see a little B better apologize but uh one thing we discussed at middle school and know something that we're inspired to do as a

district is retain our our great teachers our great staff and that's one of things that we feel like we done not only have retain number of our staff at middle school but we recruited and got even more we're stronger as a school and we stronger as a district we have hired three uh specialist education teachers there doing wonderful job we got a restor practice coordinator that's doing a wonderful job as well just enhancing our school and enhancing the post we had a friend Middle School uh again we still have 102 one technology in all classrooms in our uh not only every classroom we have our info station that has a chrome card as well students are 101 at home is also inside the classroom and we also have one firm replacement appreciative love okay in

our mtss system one of the things we are focused on highly focused on is our is building our culture while you'll see some of these pictures as we move on I hope you get an idea of what it looks like and how it sounds and feels like in fale middle school but OB tier one high quality instructions number one Focus however we make a strong emphasis on small group instruction targeting those students that need that extra support and this is not an intervention this is just like again tier one instruction inside the classroom regular and daily uh we have our back on track program it's individual program in after school we're probably saying we were first to get our up and running uh uh so we're in our third cycle which started today uh Student

Activities at club which we have a number of and our intervention enrichment we have an intervention enrichment committee we talked about this last year we cre the team as well as this year we surveyed the students we surveyed the staff we came up with some common topic items that was of interest to both our our uh student and staff Community we continue with those and with that we get student voice and we get staff voice so it is is placed every month in our PLC uh uh schedule but also in our grade our students want get to hear your voes well engage students in authentic relevant learning we have our stem curriculum we also have excuse me our AB guys going to hear more about today that's always something to be part of also Leo

got Leo curriculum project lead the way uh Student Activities and Club as usual and 6 and8 grade our F arts program ban orer as well improve on our diverse and culture responsive School uh practices we have a rested practice coordinator restor practice facilitator as well we're happy about that we also have impact we focus on social emotional learning our grade level monthly character meetings again as a reminder we discuss you'll never hear me ask a student about their grades I think that's unclear because we're all different we all different Learners it's important to understand that we have different Learners I get my very best in math my math might be a beat and that's fine we focus on effort and showing them what that looks like in the school we describe it we walk them

through it so that's one of the things we hold dear to is our character building every single month also our P Sur we list to our students we list to our staff list to our stakeholders our survey has shown the uptick as well we're looking at that middle categ which I've had to talked with Miss Taiwan Rob that middle cat break if you take a look at our data right kids will tell you what they don't like they'll be very care what they don't like so our dat got that middle part where some like if I can take it I can leave it but if you flip that data and take a look at it it gives us like really regularly 80% positive rating we're working with a district to try to get some type

of understanding what that looks like but for the most part in our we kids may not like things for the most part it's using in the single digit but it's still something we aware of and we're discussing we're trying to Target Target those students that need those extra support when they see they may need some things in school that they're not receive [Music] all good evening even having us share we're excited to be here we're going to be brief because we know time is limited but I wanted to tell you a little bit about AOC or give you an update on AOC with l i um our why [Music] I know that are why why are we here why do we have a it it's to raise the opportunity Gap and to prepare students for

College and Career and we've been doing this program for is this year 4 for us 201920 was our first year but so right before the pmic so this is our third like really so yeah this is our um and so these are some ways that we use Aid either schoolwide or in the Avid curricul in the Avid elective um with schoolwide organization so our focus is on using the binders the planners as well as having a schoolwide focus on that and so I put that link there um if you want to check it for later but all of the students in our school are as to have a binder and keep it organized and for the most part they are doing that we have growing numbers of students especially in our sixth grade class they

are using um binder so we don't want to call it an added binder but it's a schoolwide initiative as well as schoolwide use of the planner so we're using these Abid strategies and then we're carrying them over schoolwide another um way that we use Aid in our school is our very um specific lesson so Abid provides curriculum support for us so we use that in our Abid elective class as well as some of those lessons or some of those topics kind of carry through schoolwide um especially with things like collaboration inquiry projects and so forth like that um one of the things that's very unique to abot and Elena and I can speak to this very recently about a month ago we had our at a family night and so that was an opportunity for

all families who have students that are involved in the ab elected they were able to show up and hear more about what Abid involves and what the expectations are updates on what's going on in the program and also um with the eighth grade parrot we talk a lot about if you were to continue with this program in high school it is now offered 6th through 12th grades um what with that look like you know what what's the benefits of keeping uh students enrolled in adid through those n 12th grade years and encouraging people to consider that Asing so now we're going to bring some pizza cards so these are some of our ad students these are six yeah these are mostly sixth graders um they're going to share what added Joy means to them so

I'm going to let them take the floor and I'm going to start over here okay go ahead [Music] I I learned a lot from a such as colle Readiness and I really would like to continue through all my enjoy [Music] stud me have enjoy collaboration stud space Also en about colleges and Coles Y and so on our final slide it just gives you a list of all the well I think it's the next slide it gives a list of all the colleges that we have visited since we started our pilot year so we do two to three virtual college visits um and then we also have in person had is it two three we've had three excuse me three um student Le College fairs so basically what that means is the students get to work

in groups they research a college of they're choosing and then we set it all up in the nest and we have a schoolwide college fair so students can learn geographically about where those colleges located what the tuition is that to all the students we'd love to have you come check it out so we'll give you the date probably be in met and one cool thing that's happening um Michelle is taking her sixth grade students and a few of the seventh grade students to the pencil College of Business in Detroit this is a historically black college in Detroit that is reopening um accreditation or right they're pining their so now they offer master classes but she is taking the sixth graders out to do like a handson design activity there uh tomorrow so we're looking forward

to heing that that's a pretty amazing historic field trip from and so the picture is featured right there there's John Paul holding Shack shoe so they get a chance to like hang out with someone who actually designed shoes for Shaq and other huge celebrities um his business industry design industry textile fashion industry and then there's a business side that teaching and we've been twice to Oakland University we've got to Oakland Community College in BO um you have been Flint you have been Dearborne the pencil College visit is tomorrow and then miss do is taking her students on Friday to th Thursday to to oot so lots of College and Career stuff going on we curriculum as well as school life so thank you for your time thank you super you can goid purple we go

right there okay right so I got my laptop at first I was presenting it was going to be connected to my laptop so now I can see a little bit in order to continue with Father School culture uh learning program impact our month GR which we discussed during our daily M Monday Tuesday uh Thursday and Friday and so we also do daily weekly shout outs to students and staff during that time students do the live recording which is record do the announcement we also have you take a look over at the top for that picture we have ceiling of the star part of theud of the month recognition Community uh we have the names of all students they're in highway but they movie star they have a star up there the the feeling of Fame

with their name on their name is up there they've been student a month we want to show that to parents and anyone that's walking into the building uh we're going to talk more about this in a minute our mental health support our um social worker resource practice coordinator and our cers uh because that's going to show you so we've done this year to streamline our process of support students and we also have our student recognition committee we sent out with newsletter with SEO Focus we have a great relationship with the PTO uh we have new community and schools coordinator ER right here she going to talk to you guys a short amount of time we also want to be flexible with our our um with our appearan so we offer virtual inperson um City conferences

as well now we're go about five slides where start so this is like to do one of the things that we did at perel middle school last year when I took over as principal it was a reactive like we had to get some things we get done pretty quickly and like I say we did a good job overall work well as a team so with that being said we shifted our direction we became a proactive approach uh one of the things that we noticed uh which I call our support team one of the things that we noticed when things were happen with students there wasn't a system in place to get kids where they needed to be they just going different places and so we met school year we created a streamline approach because of

the Streamline approach the resources we offer they have reduced our discipline tremendously in front of their middle schools with that being said one of the things that the support team did was that they created a PowerPoint and they went into each classroom each impact hour and they explained to students what they were over what they were there for what types of supports and resources that they offer so now at mdle at one point in time when I got up here kids B an office constant right you want to see somebody like was not going to where the most important now if you walk up there now you're going to see kids coming in I like you should in the school system but they're coming in for a reason they coming in getting teachers they coming

in they got they come in and just wave and say hi want to say some good things but the best thing is they're not coming in so much from this because they're getting the support they need the resources they need so what I'm going to do next is I'm going to start calling up our our support team I'm going to have them share so that they do they offer to show some of the improvements that we've done and build a CL at scho so we going start up with this cast our six and half [Music] gr thank you guys so like you said my name is Mrs Kaitlyn Castle um this is my second year in the district as a school counselor at Middle School um and really this slide is just a little bit

about me um I've been education for 7even years um and I worked at a high school prior to that um you can SK the next um and this is M Perry my partner um she's an amazing partner Mentor um coworker and helps a lot um one of the best things that she does is lady butterflies um and that is a program for students for young ladies specifically to work on becoming the best versions of themselves working on self-esteem um and that's held weekly um we both do a lot so like you can see I her she's also our assessment coordinator we do a lot of things with career Readiness um we are both members of that team as well as the aid team so we kind of um have our hand out a little bit

of everything to support different groups and different people um on our campus let go to the next slide um so this is just a little bit about our goals I won't um you know read everything off for but I would say our main focus is um on the academic the social and the emotional skill building that we can provide to students so a lot of the work that we do is really um helping them figure out where they need support whether that's academic emotionally whether that's thinking about what they want to do in their future um college career that kind of thing we also work a lot on coping strategies pure relationships because as most of you know um either being in middle school or having middle school children a lot of those peer relationships

po skills problem solving and conflict resolution are very big prevalent issues that they're dealing with on a daily basis so we do a lot of support there and um our biggest goals obviously would also be partnering with people like the AVID program to help promote access and opportunity for our students um many of which maybe haven't considered College haven't considered what they want to do um so we like to start that as early as 6th grade so that they have so much more time to think about their strengths their weaknesses their interest um and providing them specific opportunities um like field trips like what we sold is Mor we're mentioning but as well as two opportunities this year we're doing are a field trip to the construction days and how for students for the trades

and then we're also doing a healthcare field trip as well for students interested in the medical field so again providing a lot of different opportunities for students um I'm going to invite up one of the students that I selected to be here um her name is Chelsea and she's going to share a little bit about the impact that the um support staff has made on [Music] her hi my name and I'm in sixth grade and I'm here to talk to you about this and I'm going to share all the things that we have done for far this year from day one first in the beginning of the year help me get used to because hard me to get next SP sta helped me academically because when I had when I have a test or practice

test in any of my classes I as if I could go Bears or small testing it helps me and I do better on my test than I actually do in class lastly the sport staff is help by helping me with mything tech I and my and that is all and thank you thank you and then I also wanted to invite Miss Gabriel she is to share about her experience working to support staff with my partner [Music] I'm [Music] and then just to close out um with what we do it's been a really great support for us having um so many supportive resources as well as a supportive Administration in a lot of the efforts that we do um so that can specifically be with our impact hour curriculum and having the flexibility to implement social

emotional things U being able to start in support clubs or any initiatives that we have um we've had a great support staff um and a wonderful Administration that really helped boost and drive our program um so I really appreciate the time and appreciate the wonderful staff um Ad work with us to get this program thank you [Music] guys so next up I'm going to introduce one of our great hirers again we to mention this earlier but miss our social [Music] worker hello I'm R and I am the school social worker also special education um so what social work does really has kind of a um principles that include human rights Justice equality the Dignity of an individual being and so we try to incorporate all that into what we do at school um social workers

are Advocates clinicians therapists and social justice Champion um I also for the Rainbow Club with here also um being allies and supporters for our lgbtq plus students um but for any student our goal is to complely going to support them managing the various difficulties they have in their lives so some of the specializations in school Social Work include um Dei so diversity equity and inclusion trauma informed practice so making sure we're using the best practice cases for being trauma for being aware of adverse childhood experiences and that shapes children as they grow over and what kind of risks that puts them at and being able to use their strengths to be able to find support in the school um being aware of neurog Divergent and being neuro diverent form um so knowing the best practices

to use with their kids that have thehd or all somewhere else under that umbrella diver um also interrupting the school pipeline restorative practices and clinical best practice when it comes to sessions including C behavioral motivational intervie so in the dayto day um School social work we do I and school Social Work services weing I so the social emotional portion of the I so those skills that involve anything emotional and behavioral support to academic and organizational support for those are kids that struggle with you know losing things or being organized or focused so can really expand a broad area there um crisis deescalation your intervention and then consultation not only with staff but also or not only with students also the staff and then together as a team we all kind of wrapping around our kids

and working together to have them be successful their strength and then consultation and when that can play a ro into as well as the special education assessment valuation so that would be for kids who are looking to um parents or staff who um think that they might need a little extra support to the portion of the uh special education assessment meaning the emotional portion um some kids might meet criteria under emotional parment or otherwise heal that could include in a social emotional area or it could be under um the otherwise so we help with those evaluations to see what are the criteria and um what are they benefit from Social Work services in addition to um there's a student that um I had brought today who I didn't really ask her to talk about um

support services but more so herself and how she's grown um just in the past few not only just the past year but also in the past few months with making really good choices being thoughtful considerate um advocating for some other students that are in the school showing a lot of compassion and just how she's steps to really grow and mature the last year that's I just to talk about I've been supported very much by everybody around [Music] I Str time I'm going to bring up our mental health specialist Miss Lauren Hendrick and also our community and schools coordinator Miss Tiffany even everyone I am Lauren Henry I'm the ment healthist at Middle School um what I do is work with the general education students on overall mental health Wellness um I do that by working

with them individually um I may meet with students one or two times a week um just depending on the need I also need support groups which I worked with u Miss car on that we do lunch support groups lunch support groups where we um work with students in a group setting on various um Behavior or emotional well-being um Services I also work with students who are in crisis that might include Rec counseling or um just simply de escalating a student who's having a rough day um I work with stud on managing emotions learning how to articulate how they feel um as opposed to lashing out or sing out of class and working on those types of things as well as various coping skills um just to help students be overall well um in their mental

in their mental health um Wellness Journey um I also work a lot with parents and identifying any additional services that who might need so that I can assist with referring referring them to any um outside services that I would not be able to provide for them in the school setting um I do have a student here that I invited to speak about um her experience with working with me directly um individually and in a group setting so I'll call her up after [Music] this hello uh my name isy par I have student support coordinator with community school so very briefly essentially what my job is is to advocate for each and every student in Fr middle school so I do that by identifying specific needs of the students um and bring resources what that student

needs that student needs maybe something else in student so uh it could range from basic needs um food is to work glasses andun and school is very on providing restor rest approach to every situation so very big on social and emotional learning in helping the students to do the best possible version of themselves but many of the students I guess [Music] students [Music] um what my to me um [Music] she [Music] so last I'm sorry I know this been a long presentation last want to Mr our PE not able to make it he's our restorative practice code who Mr Pierce speaks to his students to help them resolve conflict resolution um teach him conflict resolution skills how to talk to each other how to listen to one another and actually pay attention to to what

the other person have to say he creates groups also off of those meetings but he also helps support us in our attendance Department with authorities and insures and things of that nature the relationship with families to help fam where some they going through what are some of the things that we can help so no a long presentation and I apologize for that but I think it was important to highlight why we have had some of the success some of the changes that we have one a couple things I did want to point out I'm thankful thank you Mr Francis Mr Fran wonderful assistant princi but you know Mr Francis is he's more he's a jack of ball trade everybody com to Mr Prince and and that's one of the reasons that we created this support

team was because they coming to Mr France everything right and so we said you know we have the resources let allow Mr fr to do a job so they got to know everyone and that's been a big success for ours with that being said I see a lot of different faces in here so I'm not going to say as see a lot of young faces so if you familiar with the blue light special raise your hand and came out Blue Light Special all right so we have the blue special at fale M M Mr Franc runs the Blue Light Special we talk about student recognition the Blue Light Special can go out anytime 10:1 257 809 whatever time is in the blue M special it might be a thury it might be a donut it

might be coupons it might be chys we don't know what it is so we have a Blue Light Special also at Ferndale but also one thing Miss car she was humbl that she did not bring up she has brought along with friend youth scissors a number of resources she has a care store where she able to offer personal items for students whether it's toothbr toothpaste whatever kids may need what he just discussed but we also have a sword store with the blessing of f youth assistance and grants that Miss car was able to to find Burnville sore store is about to turn into Chuck E cheese we so the students are collecting their ticket they these sore tickets we giving our coupons now kids collect their tickets we we have a PlayStation right how many

see stud we haven't decided yet we have a number of things for the students out there that are excellent last thing I know I didn't speak a lot about academic and we have ways to go we we look at our data we Face things that we have to face we're not afraid of because we know we're here to help our students but I will say at the mid winter break we did take a look at our NWA Sport and know we have room to grow we see where where our shortfalls are our opportunities for growth we also consistently grew three points across every grade level and every subject here that's something that we hold true and I believe it speaks our consistency in our approach toward improving burn middle school so I apologize for this

long everything but I appreciate all your time I thank everyone participating everybody coming in thank you Mr Bruner Mr Bruner Mr Bruner go back so um I'm going to speak for the board on this and they can shoot me afterwards if they don't think it's appropriate I think the length of it the presentation was not too long because you brought in kids for every area that the adults spoke I mean if it was just adults we might feel differently but because the kids took part but we also need to speak on you and we heard that you were nominated for masp uh principal of the year um and I'm not sure if you everyone knows but I had the great opportunity to write a letter of recommendation for principal Bruner for for this award and

district district in the past you may remember that she was a fale before um and she began in early March so she's really just working um across both schools to support um especially special education and and the teachers and um just supporting our schools and then mayby is a new special education care professional that is supporting students are some new joined School little bit about curriculum and instruction and some exciting things that have been happening uh we have had um all year um a pilot team for English language arts and that's coming to a close and um but they're we're adopting curriculum as I'm sure you know um but they've attended a lot of meetings they've been doing uh lessons in the class visiting other schools thoughtful consideration on what are the next steps for

fmale and the curriculum that we need for our students so um several teachers are applying extra efforts with this big project and I appla them for their efforts last week we participated with openland schools in a teacher learning lab which was pretty exciting you know one of our big is small gr construction and so we want to make sure that we're um checking on that that we have accountability with that that we're doing that so um our teachers went into our teachers classrooms and were able to um quickly look around survey provide some feedback and then we work with Oakland schools what do we notice what do we not notice what do we need to um be up so that was last week that was with and lower um our completion for our first session

of the background track uh tutoring for kindergarten and first grade our sorry second grade it ends this week and um really seeing some progress with that took took a little bit to to get used to that and uh you know they're pretty little to St after school but we were able to figure out the best support for that because they're staying after school from 3:30 until 5:15 so it's a pretty long day for them so what do we what jumping jacks do we need to do what Ma packs in order to make sure that we're staying awake and doing that so um and now right after break we will start our uh second session and that will be with kindergarten and SEC and first grade uh we held our first not our first we held

a first five info night uh back in early March was very well attended a lot of families High interest uh for that wonderful program um and the process has started to determine which students would benefit from the program the most who is the greatest need so uh working closely with Miss majes to identify those um needs based on some assessments that families did assessments that will do recommendations from preschool teachers and not get that class started for next year love uh using our recent assessments to zero in at skill levels stud this is the time of the year for great gr and it's very exciting I just think said this before this is the time when students at our school just pop like it all just makes sense and they are just they come alive

just like spring and all flowers so this is a really exciting time for us uh some behavior supports update uh honor health is now up and running the conset has been signed by many families Miss Susie is speaking with families setting up appoints and um students are being targeted at tier three support with Miss Su and it's it's powerful it's going to be powerful uh the behavior team which uh includes many of the people that or positions that you heard about tonight from middle school social work and mental health uh honor Health myself the behavior Specialists the behavior interventionist are all part of the behavior team and we have uh just started for a few weeks now we do these um Behavior briefs on Friday and do a checkin about that um and plan positive

Pathways for students so we're able to support tier one two and three depend on the needs of the students and different people in the behavior team are taking groups individuals check on check in whatever students need tier one two uh at staff meetings and uh professional learning communities on Wednesday we dedicated our time to continue learning around conscious discipline which is our tier one and behavior systems that lower including uh PD for all staff um Mr fra who is our new ilt our instructional Lead Teacher and special ed he is also a um trainer for conscious not conscious sorry for um CPI for our behavior training there and he uh reviewed deescalation strategies with all at a recent um meeting which was very helpful uh and staff have recently been involved in the creation of

the following documents and this has been the bul of um our meeting time and it was important um for me as the leader and I think for our staff that this was all created together co-creation we did not want to create something and then just pass it out we need to do this work together so it's taken a little bit longer than I thought the original timeline but it's worth it so um we've created expectations for daily class meetings which will build School culture and build class culture we've created expectations around conscious discipline you know we have some some new staff some not going to say old staff staff that have been around for a while we want to make sure that that we're all on the same page especially with those tier ones right

with consp so it's about sharing common knowledge for clarity and also creating um a shared drive that would house some of our documents and resources so that when new staff come on board they have a spot to go to it's there and we created it together we've created a sore schoolwide document that outlin behavior expectations for all areas within our school hallway lunchroom classroom as well as Define majors and minor behaviors and consequences we have a behavior flowchart for major and minors and steps to take we have a communication chart to outline who notifies and for what reason we have a behavior tracking system using a Google form that will feed to the behavior team and that's something that they can check in on and U Miss Cobra is on special assignment tomorrow and she's

aligning all of these documents so there's cohesion across them so that so we're not missing this on this document we have it all together we want to make sure that there's a sequence lastly we evacuations and part of our ongoing safety and training involves conversations around those evacuations and the site that we go to so all of our students it before all of this happened all of our teachers have yellow backpacks and in that yellow backpack is all information that we need and processes and in there we have um pleas Ridge recck you have the outline of it where you go to what room you've had that from the very beginning unfortunately we did have to put some of that into place but we knew it because we talk about it quarterly like we're ready

for that this is this is not something that we just panicked and thought oh my goodness what do we do we have a plan and I just want to say that um during those evacuations and I know I wasn't at all of them um but staff was together they they there's strength in there um after the evacuations this month a group of staff had opportunity to deis and talk about what and how and what changes need to be made the second time that we needed to evacuate um miss hippler and miss Wright had an all staff degree which I think was very helpful so that they could share thoughts and feelings and questions and ideas that that maybe we didn't think about before and that's again really important to to gather that voice continuous Improvement

not only applies to academic but also to schoolwide structures and support so we want to with that in mind we want to make those tweets about communication plan and the timeline that we shared out with families after the event all evacuations as I said show the strength of the staff and their commitment to keeping students safe and understanding their needs in order support their wellbeing and that um I just want to shout out to they remain calm cool and Collective outside inside then we were able to support that so that is my update I hope that I cover thank you thank you I will also include a copy of what principal Keith mentioned in the board update this week for your thank you anything else for you're okay no more updates all right uh item

seven informational items a 7.1 budget to actual report that's what we rely on and if we're not on track please tell us thanks Don uh number eight uh consideration of any PLL of consent agenda items we had none number nine next Committee of the whole Monday April 1st 6 o' reminder for the board it's also new head head shot so put on your head shot vests uh number 10 next regular board meeting Monday April 15th 7 P.M number 11 Eagles points of Pride I'll go first so yesterday I had the great privilege of interacting with the musical I actually got to be one of the guest spellers during this fing be it was phenomenal seeing um before I graduated from FLL I actually had the opportunity of being in this exact musical myself so it

was a really fun time to go back sing with the students of some of the songs that I knew try to keep up with them with the choreography but they tried me up on purpose um and it was just a phenomenal time I got a quick chance to talk to the student behind the stage meet some of them uh and some of the things that they're doing and then like seeing them on stage it was just like it was really cool to see all the kids get into character cuz I was like that's not the kid that I just met backstage um but it was it was a really fun time so I just wanted to shout out those students and the fun that I had there thanks Jonathan um I was going to say

the same I was able to this past weekend goes to the play and or the musical and was just blown away like all my kids absolutely enjoyed it like those that had gone and saw the first half in elementary were like couldn't wait to see who won the spelling bee but just the the pit and the orchestra was great um all of the everyone on stage was amazing like they blew me away with their talent um it just it was really good to see and to go and be able to do that again um I also wanted to say you hit out a little bit already Sandra but to Mr Bruner and I know he thought he was really long but like I super enjoyed that presentation tonight um and being able to see all

the strategies put in place to help students outside of the academics that I think will in the long run help with academics but being able to see all of that support staff um acknowledge all of them and their hard work was amazing to see so huge shout out to the middle school for them I'll go I will um give a huge H kudos to all the um budding engineers in the district we had some amazing showings this weekend around the state we had our own Ferndale impy 1025 knock it out of the park at msan distri districts this weekend they were the captains for Alliance 2 and ended up winning the whole division um which is amazing so they're off to States in Sagen the first week in April and then we also had ostc

the crew 7769 who were Alliance captains number one and they were actually un defeated for the entire weekend and they are also going to States um in Sagen so some phenomenal engineering some amazing teamwork and cooperation and here's hoping that the two teams will form an alliance at State put that out there in the universe I'm gonna jump in here I got two people looking at me um I just want to add to the musical shout out the first night of the musical Scott Schroeder was recognized for 40 years of accompanying this um students on the piano he is incredibly generous the musical also overlapped it with like solo and ensemble in state where Scott schroer was like running around these Suburban high schools accompanying kids so he is such a community treasure and um

was great it was great that that was acknowledged um the I heard great things about the 7th grade field trip to Chicago so want to shout out Mr Bruner's staff for making that happen uh for those kids lot of spring Sports uh tryouts last week practices starting this week that's a lot of extra work for a lot of people that could be doing other things and have made those commitments um and uh the Winter Guard students were at uh Stony Creek yesterday two really really beautiful performances and um their season is quickly wrapping up but there is an opportunity for those of you who are not going to the School Board conference um you can see the winter guard show here on Friday April 5th in the High School uh gym both both teams the

gold team and the black team really beautiful performances if you get a chance to check them out what time I wish I knew I'm sure Mr tobert will be advertising that opportunity and that's how you'll get the time [Music] um I'm GNA have to just repeat some of the things that were people already said um so robotics so I work for an engineering company and we sponsored an event two weeks ago at Wood Haven and as part of my role I actually went to the event talked to all the students um to encourage them to use our software and Ferndale was at this Wood Haven event and um not knowing my role and not knowing who I am it was just refreshing to be able to talk to the students in my work hat without

them realizing who I am and I just was really proud of the team and how they represented themselves and um even though they didn't win that event they ALS they did win an award at that event so it was really um great to see that they won this past weekend and that they're going on to State um um and also while I was there a few staff members names came up from other school districts that they used to work at so it was really good to hear positive things about our staff members from people outside of our district um and then like Sarah I am really pleased to hear the positive things that are happening at the middle school now last year this time we couldn't have said that and so it's just really great

to see Mr Bruner in this role and how he's really changed the school around and he is very deserving even if he didn't win that award he is going to win it he deserves it maybe next year we'll just try again um because even if the scores and he did admit you know the scores aren't where they want them to be but I think he's changed the culture he's set the foundation and I know that this school is on the trajectory to be the school that we know it can be so that's right okay um so um I had the opportunity on last Tuesday to attend a special education Pat meeting um uh engage with parents uh listen to their stories um also of course to um listen to some um ideas and concerns um

but I was most impressed with the um the leaders it was a resource fair so they wanted to ensure that all of the parents understood all of the offerings that Ferndale has to offer so it was just super cool to see all of our packets and brochures and you know there was a a lot of parents who just didn't know all of the offerings um so it was just a wonderful opportunity to have that all in one place and I was very happy to be there um also did double duty on that same day and had a chance to attend the facilities planning meeting I want to give a huge shout out to um um interim Deputy superintendent Wright um who facilitated a wonderful facilities meeting um that was very clear thorough um it was

engaging we had a chance to engage listen to ideas um and just was a thoughtfully done um presentation and meeting and then finally um um parent teacher conferences all the buildings last week was great to engage with parents see parents there um see students there engage with them I want to say that it was like almost summer one of the days last week and so to see parents and students here smiling and happy to be there and talking to teachers um was wonderful and then the very next day for conferences it was like a whole other season and it was raining and things like that um but I'm just saying like when weather happens that impacts um attendance and um both nights were very well attended and it was great to see all of the

family there for those two nights as well all right so I'm going to Echo some things and I'm going to mention some other things um first I want to uh it seems like it was so long ago but it wasn't the state of the district that we had that was so well attended and it was like a pivot from what we're used to saying um if you haven't watched it or haven't didn't attend it's one to go back and look at and I just want to say and again that the the cabinet team that presented that day it was awesome so uh keep up the great work um I also want us and he's not here to hear this so I'll text him afterwards but Mr Bruner is more than deserving um I to can

see the Middle School um on its way to being you know the next shining star um and I agree with Jackie he may not have gotten it this time but we'll work harder to make sure he's glowing next time uh the so I was also going to speak on the musical and I knew I was going to be a repeat on this one um but this time I got to attend as a i attended as a parent which I haven't had that role in The District in a few years um Jonathan and I came together uh so I saw the play previously when he was in it and I the whole time I can't remember what role he had but anyhow he got um so it was the one time that I came into the

building and like all of the people who were here recognize me as Jonathan's mom and not as school board president um which is um I like I like that change he might not like that change but it was good to be mom that day and not president that day um and we sat behind a staff member I don't know if we ever got her name but she's a parent educator at the middle school maybe or the high school but she sat in front of us and it was really funny because she had the program and we even know what we were talking about she goes you guys got a kid in the in the plan we're like no we're like well who are you here to see we're like uh all of them and she's

like so someone invite you I'm like no and Jonathan was like we're on the school board she was like oh well it's really cool that you came out and then she was like well I don't have a kid here either I'm I work here and it was like oh well awesome right so she talked about how Mr Burke no Mr Burke was a guest spell you know but it was really cool to sit we sat behind staff members who didn't have kids in the play and they didn't like turn around go oh they're on the Schoolboard like that was awesome right um and it just was great to see the kids on the play like on the stage and then see them afterwards it is it is very it's shocking to see a kid be

able to get into a role right like to see a kid get in a role and then come out and just a middle school or a high school afterwards um so they did a phenomenal job and thank you for allowing me to be mom because and then afterwards everyone weren't you so proud uh yeah um and then the last thing uh right before this meeting the school board had a workshop that was open to the public but none of you all attended I don't know why you miss all that great work um but I just want to say here on record that this is one of the best teams to work on like I mean we do some hard work and there's no one else I would jump into this fire with than you all

so I want to say thank you and with that item 12 I uh we have request to go into to close session to discuss negotiations with superintendent Deputy Deputy superintendent director each yes I um move to go request to go into close sessions to discuss negotiations with superintendent Deputy superintendent and HR Director I second and the school board mooved by Sarah seconded by Mary roll call Miss Shephard har yes L yes Turner yes yes yesid yes thank you thank you
