001We're called to meeting to order. Rachel Here. Katie Here. Sarah Doug Here. Lori Carrie Here. Jeff Here. Okay, if everybody will stand for the pledge of allegiance, which will be led by our class of 2026 valedictorian and salutatorian. And then we'll have a moment of silence for armed services and first responders. Can they come forward, please? Anastasia Perfect. Thanks, you guys. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Thank you. All right. Are there any items to be changed or added to the consent agenda? There's not. Okay. And recognitions and acknowledgements, class of 2026 valedictorian and salutatorian. Mr. Byrum's going to do the introduction and along with the academic scholars. >> Sure.

002Do you want them all at once or let's Let's just start with our pledge givers. So, Anastasia and Nola can come up real quick. So, Anastasia Logan is our >> Oh, yeah. You guys can come all the way up. >> up there, guys. Front and center. And then Nola Griffin, come on up. This is our salutatorian. So, Anastasia's planning on attending U of M and we can't talk her into being a sparty yet. Go blue. Someday. Yep. And Nola is planning on attending Grand Valley State University. So, our valedictorian and our salutatorian. >> Very good. OKAY, CONGRATULATIONS. CONGRATULATIONS. YEAH, CONGRATULATIONS. CONGRATULATIONS. CONGRATS. I'm so excited. Congrats. Thank you. Congratulations. So, I was going to I'm going to present all of our um academic scholar students uh all at once. So, once I read all the

003names of our academic scholars could rise and and come meet our our board. But, I wanted to just kind of point out what our academic scholars are. They're a little bit different than our normal honor students. So, our honor students are 3.5 and up, but our academic scholars is something that was created uh a number of years back when uh our advanced placement classes went to a 5.0 scale. That obviously changed uh grade points quite a bit with students. And what you'll find is is students that are taking AP classes and getting A's in those classes end up getting a grade point higher than a 4.0. And so, that's those are the the students that we we brought to you today. Um we have a total of 25. So, outside of Anastasia and Nola, um

004we have uh 23 other students that I'd like to rattle off. Not all of them are here. One thing that you'll find with our academic uh scholars is is that they are involved in a lot of things, right? Um we always talk about the journey to education is what we put in. Um and these are the folks that tend to put themselves in in everything. So, they're part of our sports. They are part of our arts programs, usually taking leadership roles in both those. Um they're working in our community throughout. So, many of these faces you've probably seen at um Walmart and all over because they're not only doing jobs, but they're doing philanthropy. I mean, they're doing it all. And um what you put in the school is is um what you get out

005of it. And so, these folks have put in a lot, and I'd like to even though not all of them are here, I'd like to read all those names if that's okay. So, these are all people that I'm reading that they have all got uh achieved a grade point average over a 4.0. So, um the students that we have today are Lily Sargent, Alyssa Wangler, Raina Robel, Ivy Roberts, Georgia Hasty, Luke Miller, Bella Rose Nowak, although I call her Bella it just felt weird to say. Sorry Mr. Nowak, but going by the the name here. Arabella Southwell, Michaela Kislowski, Gabriel Slow, again, I needed to say Gabe, but I wanted to keep it keep it true form. Madison Augustine, Sophie Davis, Catherine Kuzma, Katie Berkshire, Chelsea Duby, Hannah Strother, Renata Rodebaugh, Hannah Butcher, Landon Wolfe,

006Ava Kahn, Raina Carlson, Matthew Vanderville Vanderveer, sorry, and Lillian Lazari. Now, um when we go to graduation, you'll see these folks. Their cords will be blue and gold, okay? And so that's that that commemorates that as well. If if you're wondering what those ones mean, that's what that stands for. So, if we could have our honors students come up and uh meet the board. Mr. Byrum's all set? All set? Perfect. Yeah, go right ahead. The students can be dismissed. Yeah. Where can we go to? I'm ready. We'll move on to personnel and new hires. Uh new hires JV volleyball head coach Allison Ashhurst. And then resignations. Uh GIS teacher Christopher Attenberry, educational assistant Peyton Bogue and and Stephen Yonan. GHS varsity hockey head coach Tim Hanley and then GHS freshman girls basketball head coach Pat

007Anders. And then retirements. Food service helper Teresa Lambert and GHS athletic secretary Jill Kasuba. And then we have building updates. Would we like to start with South Maple? Or is Carla here? Oh, sorry. I'm sorry, Carla. Sorry, I skipped over. It's keeping you on your toes. >> Yeah, I was just like, wait, I'm not Carla. Thank you. Yep. Um we still we don't have our preschool assessments yet. That's hopefully will come in in time for May uh to be able to share with you. But I did want to share our enrollment numbers cuz those are pretty good right now. I think last time I told you we had 32 students that had signed up for preschool. We now have 36 officially enrolled and 12 more that are on the wait list. They're on the wait

008list because they're younger. So, we like to give, you know, we need to have room for the ones that turn four before September 1st first. And then if we still have room then we can have the other ones enter, but 50 students, so we're excited about that. So. Wonderful. Thanks. Now, Ms. Parker. >> Now, Ms. I don't mind Carol was giving it to me cuz he got to be first today, so. Um from South B a couple of student achievement notes. Um we have 63% of our students who have had zero behavior referrals this year, so that's great news. Um when we look at um one of our literacy screeners, 55% of our students are at or above grade level in the area of reading. And then um this is the first time this has

009happened so far since I've been at South B. We have three students who have had zero long perfect attendance. So, um looking to celebrate those kids at the end of the year. But up, so that's the news at South B. So. Thank you. So, I could say ditto for North Ohio. We have very similar data to share. Um we do have three students with perfect attendance at North Ohio. Last year we had two at the end of the year, so three right now. Um we have 56% of our North Ohio students have zero RTC referrals. Um and I'll note that again, 56 of those students have our students have zero RTC referrals and 55% of our students are showing above or at grade level um on a benchmark assessment for literacy called Acadience. So, 55%

010K3 um with that benchmark level or above and 56 at zero referrals. Perfect. Thank you. I don't even to call you guys' names anymore. >> I know. We're like, ready. Here we go. >> You have it down pat. Um we are very excited to announce we have 14 students with perfect attendance at GIS. 178 with very good attendance. So, um one to four absences, which is 190 92 students that have great attendance, almost an entire grade. So, our incentives are working. Our um push is working and we're seeing that in the classroom, too. So, we're excited about that. We have 256 students, 40% that have zero referrals. Um and then this year we started an accelerated program. It's called the Ignite program. And we targeted the top eight to nine students per grade level that

011score in that gifted range, that 93% um percentile or higher in the um as measured by the NWEA. And they were either um proficient or advanced on the NWEA. And one time a week we push them through some accelerated learning with one of our teachers, Nadine Beam. And we're finding some great success with that. So, we're really excited about that. And I just want to highlight our student of the month is fourth grader Eden Rochester. Um our Blazing Blue Blue Devils are fourth grade fourth grade Madison Gawell, fifth grade um Michael Marks, and sixth grade we have Briar Fitzgerald. Perfect. >> Very emotional. Well, thank you. All right. Um lots of good things going on at GMS. Um just want to highlight a couple building things that are exciting coming up. Track and field has

012started last week. First meet is at home this Friday. Um which will be exciting. Um we also had 13 GMS students um who competed in the uh individual solo and ensemble festival uh for band in Boeing. And all of them medaled. Uh staff member of the month is Mr. Brian Peterson. He's been described by students as one of the favorite teachers in the building. Teaches math. That's a hard thing to be as favorite teacher when you teach math, but he does a great job. Um and he connects with students through his humor, relatability, understanding of students. He's one of our rock stars. Um, we have four students of the month, Preston Seguin, Zoe Dougal, Mordecai Beacham, Olivia Edkinson. And then back to the academic achievement data that we've been talking about. Um, so we also

013uh I pulled a little bit of data on some of our behavior stuff. So from first quarter until now, we've had a decrease in correctives assigned by 30%. So we decreased correctives 30% for last third quarter. It's been huge. And then the number of A {slash} A minus students, so our A honor roll students is 83, which is approximately 20% of all of our students. Pretty huge. Um, and then we have 53 students that had perfect attendance for quarter three. So I measure mine by quarter cuz it gives every student every student a chance to, you know, show that they can turn things around with their attendance every quarter. Awesome. Thank you. Thank you. All right. Thanks, Blaine. Okay, public input. Do we have any? We do not. No public input. We'll move on onto

014the consent agenda. It is recommended that the board approve the consent agenda as presented. So we have the board meeting minutes for April 13th, 2026. It is recommended that the board approve the April 7th, 2026 special board workshop meeting minutes. So we need a motion for that. I'll make the motion to approve the April 7th special board meeting minutes. I'll second. Any conversation, discussion? Rachel. Yes. Katie. Yes. Doug. Yes. Carrie. Yes. Jeff. Yes. Motion carries. Okay. And then have the GCS reports, uh committee reports. Did you treasure's report? Oh gosh, why does it keep skipping on me? I like keep going too fast. Sorry. Treasurer's report. We have a general fund and athletic bill in the amount of 3.6 million, cafeteria fund bills in the amount of 98,426, sinking fund bills in the amount of

01521,646, and the period prior adjustments in the amount of zero. So, we need a motion. It was already approved. >> Oh, it was already approved at the board meeting, but just announcing it. Now, we're on to GCS reports. Just going to start with Carrie. Do you want to go over the policy disciplinary committee? Sure, I can go over quickly. Um, we uh kind of reviewed this at our board workshop, but for those of you who weren't there, um we have not been meeting regularly as a policy committee, and so we've decided to start doing that cuz um Mandy has found a lot of work that we need in our policy department, which is good. Um, the biggest two we will be voting on tonight. Um, and one is uh cell phones in the classroom, and

016the reason that we are um changing our policy there is to follow the guidelines of the recent um law that was passed. And so, um when we start in the fall, we are going to have a policy that we do not have cell phones or the children do not have cell phones uh from bell to bell, and then kind of see how that goes. Um the language can be uh manipulated a little bit by administration, and we talked about different things as Gaylord High School as opposed to the middle school and the elementary schools and juniors and seniors versus freshmen and sophomores. So, a lot of um leverage there, but initially it's going to be bell to bell, and we're going to see how it goes. Uh the second policy we're voting on tonight is

017medical leave of absence for Esto. Um which is Can you tell me what that auxiliary staff kind of? Really any um employer or employee that isn't covered by a bargaining group, it's ensuring that they if they're a regular employee that they are earning sick time through the Earned Sick Time Act. So, 1 hour of sick time for every 30 30 hours worked is what it equates to. So, just updating the policy for that division to be coherent with the rest of our employees. Any questions? Uh-uh. And then Mr. Weber will give the personnel finance and negotiation update. All right. Uh in a quick nutshell of what we talked about uh a couple weeks ago, the biggest one was uh the creation of two well, up to about four new employees. Four one would be the

018student engagement engagement consultant and then assistants along with them. And this person would um handle our discipline students that need it. It would be an inclusive classroom where they could go to their all day some parts of the day, whatever. Um and then this person would also train our whole staff on how to properly handle these students. Um it's it's a big big thing uh what our staff survey uh brought to us that they're having some issues with that. Um so, this is a a big deal. They're still working out all the fine points to it, but we're hoping by the start of next school year to have uh this consultant on board with three to four paraprofessionals to help out uh the teachers and and these children. So. And that money to pay for

019all that would come from 31A grant money that uh would save us from our general budget. So it's all for at-risk students. That was the biggest part of our meeting. We did Mandy's now going through some contract language to clean them up and make all contracts flow. They're all about the same. And also hope to keep our when we have good staff, we want them treat them well and and keep them. Cuz we're finding we're having a lot of turnover and we want to eliminate that. Next we talked briefly about our budget resolution number one. We'll do this two more times. When we first did our budget, we didn't know what the state was going to give us, but we had do a budget. So now we have to make an amendment to our budget

020to say we're going to use what they what they gave us. So just a standard thing that we have to do. Um on the uh doc tonight we'll be looking at a bus lift which we've went over the numbers on that. Oh, it's going to be about $80,000 for a bus lift cuz the one we have now is is not usable. And thankfully this is coming from a local vendor. So that makes it nice. And then we had a short discussion on our summer tax collection. We're still working through that, but it is advantageous for us to collect taxes through the summer so that we don't have to borrow money. Um so we're working on that with a couple of our townships. That was about it. Questions? I actually have one question. So with the

021additional education and training, will that be in addition to the CPI training or will that replace the CPI training that we did before? >> to that. Training that's a little bit more specialized and we'll be able to control giving that to our employees as they're hired and onboarded through the course of the year instead of just um whenever they're being offered through the ISD. Got you. Perfect. Okay. Any other questions? Nothing? All right, new and unfinished business. It is recommended that the board approve the purchase of a drive-on school bus four-post lift from Northern Pump Services as presented. I will make the motion to approve the purchase of the drive-on school bus four-post lift from Northern Pump Services as presented. Second. Questions? Discussion? This was put out to bid. Sure. Just and this was the

022happened to be the best bid in terms of price plus Everything we got was they were >> included. Yes. Yeah, okay. Do we Is there just curious when that will be installed? That's a great question. Can I bounce that one over to the team? As soon as it's approved, we'll get the ball rolling. Okay. It's uh It's something that can happen within you know the operations of our daily work there, so Oh, good. bolted to the floor, so it's not major surgery or anything of that nature. Okay. Perfect. I got nothing else. Okay. Rachel? >> Yes. Katie? >> Yes. Doug? >> Yes. Carrie? >> Yes. Jeff? Yes. Motion carried. It is recommended that the board approve the 2025-2026 budget amendment number one resolution as presented. I'll make a motion to approve the 2025-2026 budget amendment

023resolution number one. Second. Any questions? Rachel? >> Yes. Katie? Yes. Doug? Yes. Carrie? Yes. Jeff? Yes. Motion carries. It is recommended that the board approve the amendment to policy article 5 personnel section 7 ASTA or earned sick time act as presented. I'll make a motion to approve policy 5 personnel section 7 earned sick time act as presented. I will second Any questions or discussion? Rachel? Yes. Katie? Yes. Doug? Yes. Carrie? Yes. Jeff? Yes. Motion carries. It is recommended that the board approve the amendment to policy article 4 student section 21 wireless communication devices and personal electronic devices effective July 1st, 2026 as presented. I will make the motion to approve the amendment to policy article 4 student section 21 wireless communication devices and personal electronic devices effective July 1st, 2026 as presented. I'll second. Any

024questions? That's a mouthful. Rachel? Yes. Katie? Yes. Doug? Yes. Carrie? Yes. Jeff? Yes. Motion carries. Do we have any new staff here? We do not. Okay. And no public input. So we need a motion to adjourn. >> May I have a second? I will second that. All in favor? Aye. Aye.
