Approval of the amendments. Need a motion? >> I'll make a motion to approve the minutes. >> In a second. >> Second. >> Any discussion? All in favor? >> All opposed? Motion carried. Approval of the agenda with some um additions and amendments here. So, we're going to add GMS GHS student handbook amendment. Um, that is going to be 108. We're going to remove board member comments. That's going to be number 12. And um in number 12's place, we are going to um move into uh close session at that time um to discuss uh confidential attorney communication. Um, with those amendments to the agenda, can I get a motion? >> I'll make a motion to approve the agenda >> and a second. >> Uh, any discussion? All in favor? >> I opposed. Motion carried. Uh, student presentation.

Good to meet you. So Emily is an outstanding student. She returned to us. You were here all school year last year and this year she is
a member of your busy body program. We were hoping to get you in the welding program or your welding program. Um um she's just absolutely capable about this year. I believe last time I looked you had all these and maybe one of you are all these you were actually nominated when I looked it up a couple different teachers nominated you for your hard work your positive attitude your work ethic and graduate you have grown so much for the first time I've ever seen you do that um future psychology Okay. So, she got both options. She got school option. She got trainers options going. She's got to figure out Emily is an actual rockar. She's taking high school. Um, love. Thank you. Great things here. With that comes a certificate from watch. Um, we got cookies
and milk from they just have usually their favorites to be honest with you from GA forget as well as a couple of gift cards that I got from You saw the new changes. And our fifth graders this month were offer Janelle Burch and even Chevage. I would encourage you guys all to come on Fridays. a great cheer. We've had a wonderful time celebrating spirit week and uh celebrating students of the month. So, congratulations to all those students. >> Okay. Comments. So, [Music] All right. Hi, I am Laura S, the secretary at uh the teen clinic and um all of my co-workers wanted to say a thank you for your continued support of
having the clinic. Um October 1st began our 15th year at the Boy Middle High School and we are very excited to be there. Um just wanted to let you guys know we appreciate the support not only from the board um but also the staff and administration is the best to be working side by side with. Um so we really enjoyed our time there. Um just wanted to throw out a couple quick numbers I gathered. Um last year, our um fiscal year, we had 168 sports physicals that we did. Um on average, we see over 300 students a year. Um which account for um 1,232 appointments at the clinic. Uh we're open year round and that would be an average of 251 uh vaccines that we've done. So we see a lot of kids. We do
a lot of work there, but we haven't had a chance to come and thank you guys for supporting us being there. So that's it. >> Thank you. >> Okay. Starting on page 10. the monthly check register. It runs through page 19. This is going to be the accounts payable for the month of September. The treasurer sterling noise reviews. So now for your acceptance of them, you'll see the total on page 19 would ask that you would approve the total checks. The grand total is $817,34160. Is there a motion for approval? I'll make a motion. >> I'll second. >> Um, any discussion? You do a very good job at this. I'll say because I think it was last month that you weren't here and I was like, so thank you for always coming, Amy. Thank you.
I was my two in the discussion. Um, okay. Uh, all right. All opposed. Motion carried. Okay. Two quick things in the financial report is um our audit has been essentially completed. You know, the deadline to the state is November 1st. Um but all the work has been done. It's really just them to actually crank it out and submit it, which is on the job of the auditor. So, our work is done. It ran very smoothly. Um, most people might not say that an audit is a lovely experience, but with Anderson Tap, it is a lovely experience, even when some not so lovely things happen, which did this year with the new Gazsby in a new way that we had to calculate um for compensated absences, which is long-term absences, which is nothing you all have
to worry about. Doesn't really affect the bottom line. It's just one of these hoops we have to jump through. Um, so thank you to Terry Britainer for jumping in. This is the beauty of having the financial team because to have three people to, you know, to jump in when there's a a hot item and then to be able to jump out when not needed is I mean it's just such a privilege to work under those conditions. So I I don't know how many hours she worked on this, but it was enormous. And so I'm just very thankful for her to be able to do that. So um I did ask to have it in November to have the audit presentation in November. Um and it was he was going to be out of town. So
December will be our audit presentation. We'll do it at 5:30 so we can have its own hearing. So you know for 30 minutes you will present to you and then during the regular you will just accept it with action. Okay. Um the last thing I just want to point out is on page 20. This is our revenue and expenditure report. It's early in the year. Um but if you look at the third column over that actual to date and then scan down you will see the fund balance. um uh because this is the actual so fund balance July 1st, 2025. You see that 4.1 nearly $4.2 million that's where our fund balance is sitting. So that's roughly 26%. Um that is a little more than we had budgeted. So that's great. It's always in the
general direction we want to go. But again, it's just good news. 26% is a great spot to be in and means that we're not borrowing. So again, you know, we're saving those borrowing costs. We're saving the interest fees. So um this is just something that I wanted to point out is that balance you'll see that again in the audit report and that is all I have. Thank you. Information we prepare some exhaust pads to the walk and we have a door. It's the interior door side of it is filled. We can't put it back together. So I have to go around order. Unfortunately, it's going to be 8 to 10 weeks before um discussion on board member comments. So, um we had had a request earlier in the year to um have a board discussion
on um just general board member comments. Um we removed it from the agenda today uh cuz it was there on uh by mistake. We removed it >> just meant to be a conversation. >> Yep. It was just meant to be a conversation. But um we removed board member comments probably >> oh it was last year >> December or January. >> Obviously it wasn't October because October about a year. >> Um and Dr. I don't know if you have anything to add, but what I would what I would say in terms of kind of my thoughts on board member comments overall is the reality is we should not be commenting on things that are not on the agenda. The time to comment on the things that are on the agenda is after a motion, a second,
and then during that discussion period. That's the time when we are meant to be having conversation as a board if there's any um further discussion that needs to be had or clarification. Beyond that um any comments that we have as board members really do need to be added as an agenda item. Um, and that's for a couple of different reasons, but one, um, because then it allows us, um, as a board to get all of the information we need in order to take in whatever the comment is regarding um, it makes sure that the comments that we have um, are within the scope of our practice and the work that we're doing and they don't violate any kind of rules that we have to follow. and there's lots um and it keeps things kind of
running in a in a kind of a more streamlined direction. It doesn't it doesn't take us off track. Um when board me board members have comments or opinions about various things that are happening in the school, we are just as welcome as anybody else in the community to participate in public comment. Um, so if there is something that a board member would like to talk about or would like to comment on that isn't otherwise on the agenda. For example, um like if somebody wanted to um highlight uh an event coming up that's, you know, available for, you know, the community to participate in, we could share that information during public comment. um and and you know invite you know the school kids and stuff like that to come and participate but but that has no
business in the actual work of the board. Um, and so my my thought on board member comments is having them in the agenda invites um I don't want to say trouble because that's not the word I would use, but it invites error um or yeah management issues. Um and it also creates um just kind of a time waste. I know we all in the past when we had board member comments it was like you go around and each person either commented or didn't but we gave each person a chance. Um and there's just really no place for that in the scope of the business of the board um to elicit like random uh conversation if you will. Um so that's my two cents. Dr. I don't know if you have any additional sense or anybody
else has any additional sense but that's that's my thought I can't be prepared for what's going to come out of your mouth >> right no I I can't and so the difficulty on that is I I look and the other principles you look unprepared if you're expecting an answer >> and it's natural since we're televising this for people to you throw a red herring out to expect some kind of comment back. >> Mhm. >> And the micromanagement issue is not good boardsmanship. We worked really hard at the no surprise rule. You guys are fabulous to let me know ahead. I'll do my research and then it'll come back to the whole group, not just the one person who asked the question. Right? So, I love the fact that you have opportunities between public comment and
commenting directly on the agenda item. You've got two avenues to still comment. Yes. Does anybody else have any um thoughts on this or anything? Any anything that we feel like we need to take action on um that we need to add to future board agendas? Obviously, tonight is not an action item on our agenda. >> I mean, we went through everything when we took off. >> Yeah. >> It was a very long conversation. >> Yeah. >> So, I'm pretty sure we were thorough. >> Very thorough. >> Okay. Any any comment that board member can make, we can make public. And my problem with board member comments always is you can't have a discussion when there's a comment. It's just your comment. You can just say it and then pass it on to the next person.
So >> it hangs there. >> And it just hangs there. So somebody can make a comment. If they wait until comment that's a lost opportunity for dialogue. So anything that we have to say should be when we have our discussion. That's it. Okay. >> Any other discussion? Any other thoughts? >> Hearing no need for action. Um I'm, you know, open to to, you know, further discussion in the future, but we're not going to initiate any action board meeting on that. >> Uh fifth grade band update. I saw Mr. Levage. So excited. So proud of you. >> Um, so how's it been going on here? Um, so we've been doing classes with small groups of kids on Monday a week, Monday through Friday in the morning time from 7:50 to about 8:10. We have discussion on
that with the fifth grade teacher. So I'll talk about the schedule first and how that's kind of working for me so far. It's okay, but it's not ideal cuz I only have about 20 minutes with those kids and in that time period they're getting their breakfast ready. They might have forgotten something in their morning, but most of them are in a pretty good mood because I I saw two kids that I'm carrying their case. I was home last we're in this together. This is great. You know, it's like come out of their building whether they know or not. Um, with that in mind though, there's morning announcements. So, they're very visual. These fifth grades about doing classations and listening and so that takes time away from us doing lesson time and then by then it's
like we do a warm cycle time go so that it's not enough time to get them to what they need to work on because I can say we're going to do this one thing and then you're going to work on the rest of the week. But you have to do it like 5 minutes not even just all get their band juices flowing that go for like clarinets and snacks perussion set up. It takes a whole class period plus possible to get them set up in back cuz by the time you get the clarinet put together oh we got to pack up. So, I'm hoping that the speediness of them at home seeing the uh putting their subse going to make that go a lot quicker for them so they can actually start walking much. [Music]
Um so that's kind of what I'm dealing with right now with scheduling that. So we're just making it work as best as we can. Um, so that's where we need the schedule. In time when the kids are getting a little more in demand and they know what they're doing with their instruments, I'm going to start making the small jump so they can come more than just one day a week. And that's kind of maybe the good thing about this is the teachers like if you want to have them every day, go ahead. I can't do that yet cuz putting them in my room is I mean I got 30 28 kids in total that sign. So that's that's good. Like I said, working. I said a minimum of 15 kids at the most. I I
see that. So that's kind of good. Um so I'm going to see what it looks like when we take about 20 kids in that room with some headphones. >> Uh so with that in mind though, the instrumentation that's another thing. Uh it was good. We have a good variety of everybody playing instruments from the clar saxophone trumpets and drums baritones and percussion flues. Um however the supply the demand is high supply is not there or we need more. So what that means is when I asked Kyle the answer hey you got any more trumpets? >> Oh we are out which is great. >> But we weren't expecting 28. >> No. So, um, I was lucky enough I I don't know how we got the super. Okay. So, there was super grand that came in. Hey,
you 500 bucks to do something with it. Okay. So, I bought a couple supplies and things that stuff and I used some stuff for I did buy a couple band instruments with that. Um, and I did talk with the uh PTA. Um, but they're not going to have necessarily reasons why not trumpet the issue I have that is there's still like two kids don't have >> so unless they want to switch to something else really good on the test so that's kind of where we're at withation lines with trunks and food. So, um, >> how many do you need each? >> At least one more. >> Yeah. So, you need two more. >> Yes. Yeah. So, [Music] I'll say things I've never had to do. So, just ask me. Screw you. search yes then okay
I'll be in contact um and the other thing on top of that is the quality of the instruments we have they're pretty good I was surprised that we had silver instruments that's not a common instrument color it's perfect immediate brand uh intermediate instruments are usually silver um brass are usually creators or certain people and Uh the cases in general for like the trombones and baritones, trumpets that were school owned are okay, but most same thing might need to get upgrade. Just you know as a board instruments have the shuffle. They have to, you know, if you take care of your instrument and you you do all your diligence, it's going to be great. These are school instruments. They got their dings, their debts, and their experience of sales being lockers and cars and heat and
cold. So, I don't know how long this inventory has been around in high school, but you know, they most instruments have a shelf life of around 20 maybe 30 years have been taken care of really well. And I know that some of those cases starting to show that right here because the first thing I talk to these kids before they even get right now is opening the case. Hey, you got you got brief. Hey, you got these little latches over here that clip down and set them up. And a lot of the briefcase ones that have to push out. They're starting to like get they're getting really loose. And so it's like you got to push that in and push lock in. so that when you take the case with your jury, things are going
to fall out. So, um that's kind of where we are with some of the cases that I've been seeing so far. Um another thing too I should mention is uh at least my fifth grade teachers were hoping to talk. They told me in our meeting that a good percentage of the kids were going to from what they saw from school or from a store. That's not necessarily true. I have probably about four or five kids that didn't store rental which is great and they're great and things are great which means that a lot of kids still here need a school instrument because they can't afford the rental stores. Um so that's where the need is still for that situation there with our instruments. Um having more supply for my end for incorporating valve oil and
swabs and stuff like that for ours daily instruments. [Music] That's that's not the worst I've seen. So, um, otherwise has been going on. It's it's going like in this slow right now, but we're on our way. Okay. Excellent. Thank you. >> I think just the exposure is wonderful. >> Our band is going to be give give it give it two more years and it's going to be huge. But then when these fifth graders and these elementary schoolers come up. >> Yes. Uh I think the biggest thing so excited my presence being at this the elementary schools had increased the amount of kids wanting to do an instrument last year like Mr. H is kind of like hey I got more kids than I've ever had band and now this is why have that need for
more instruments at school problem. So it is a good problem and if it increases then we'll have to get we got to fix that. So thank you very much again for a purchase order. She'll just take care of it. We'll talk. Thank you very much. Thank you. Thank you. Department updates. Do you have anything more for department updates? Okay. All right. Anyone else? Thanks. Um, superintendent have this all over. It's great. Uh, Tia Trean with TV6. Um, PJ and I will be on the, uh, UP news today, this Friday. Uh, channel 19 with Andrew was the interview today. Um, Gilbert staff, PJ joins me tomorrow at 3:00. We already did the uh, GMS GHS staff meeting a couple weeks ago. So your staff was about two weeks ago. Uh the um haunted trail. Thank you
Ashley for bringing peaches and Friday. These two little mini horses. I've never seen mini horses before. They were a And they were so good to not bite anybody. It was it was just delightful. Uh anyway, the horses were the attraction for people to come and see the design. So, it pulled them in and there were quick conversations. the head of the Sawyer Alliance, Bob >> Struck, came and and said how much he appreciated that we were part of the event and that it meant a lot that we were participating and that shows a a lot of good making sure they're included. So anyway, I was just excited to be invited. Thank you for organizing the whole thing. You're welcome to come to all of my >> one a month. >> I'm good with what we
did. I just started to freeze, you know. Pretty cold. >> Yeah. Yeah. But thank you. The um revving up for all the work on the bod. I hope it's a paying off. The goal, of course, is getting the word out. Um, and our teachers are going to be doing the postcards. Those already went over to the teachers. Just like in May, um, Amy Kinszel, the president of GA, gave like six different possible sayings that a teacher could use. And then the middle school, high school teachers, their first period block, those the kids in that block are the ones that were to write a sentence or encouragement to please get out there and vote. And then the district pays for the postage for them, but the little ones, we can trust that it's going to make
it home. So, we're not paying for postage for that. It just goes home in the backpack. Um, I think the biggest thing that Michelle Barman, she was part of the uh, West Branch Township Hall meeting. That um, was a tough meeting to go to. Anyway, in that conversation, she had mentioned how do we get people to actually vote and know where they're supposed to vote because some people just aren't registered. they truly are registered. So that becomes a conversation of how do we help them to even know? She was talking specifically about renters just not even having a a clue. It was like okay all right that's something is the next step to do. Um I think that's it on the superintendent report district news. We're working on initiative one, a leadership training that will
start in uh January. It'll be a three-hour session with admin and three selected teachers, one per building. And working on culture, that's the biggest goal. How can we shift culture to positive? What more can we do with encouragement of of that? Um, district is board update. We kind of covered updating you on the uh bond correspondence. Did we have anything? Nope. Okay. Okay. All right. New action must purchase. >> Okay. So, new business action items must purchase. That's on page 24. Um, I need a motion um to purchase a a bus um as per our fleet replacement schedule. So, it's a it's a sorry new 77 passenger Bluebird Vision propane bus from Holland Bus Company. Uh the total purchase price uh with radios and camera systems. So, that's everything we need, right? Is $169,620.70. Um
and again this is part of our our scheduled um plan all budgeted for has been for years. Um this is this is part of of the process we go through to be able to transport um all of our students the long long distances that they travel. >> So this would just be also this came from the UP bus. So we don't um have the bus bid in here for them to accept the bids. >> Correct. >> Yes. Okay. Um and so in the past you would have probably maybe seen the actual bus bid that came in but there's only two companies that bid and we stick with the same you know uh like oh three from three different places. Um and so this is the one that fits in line with our uh fleet. all
the other parts that we have, that sort of thing. >> Yeah. We can't have like a bunch of different kinds of Yeah. >> And so, uh, the timing of this really will be in next fiscal years. We'll do the purchase order for it now. This is how long far in advance you have to actually put the order in. And it will be delivered next summer, right? >> And so, we pay >> 2026 summer or 26 2026. But and and when I say that it's could be August, July, August. So this will come out of next year's budget. >> Okay? Because our budget goes from >> July 1 to June 30th. So we put in what you approve now. We put the order in now. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. And then July, August, we just
wait for the phone call of when it can be delivered and then we have a check ready for them when they deliver it. So So this will be out of the 2627 fiscal year budget. Okay. Okay. I'll make a motion to purchase the 77 passenger at a cost of 169,620.7. A second. >> Any discussion? All in favor? >> I oppose. Motion carried. We have our addition here, which is the Glenn Middle School High School uh student handbook amendment. Um, and the copy is attached. It's the light. So, the added part um to the attendance is the parent or guardian has 48 hours from the students return to school to excuse the absence. After 48 hours, the student absence cannot be changed and will result in an unexcused absence. >> Can I get a motion to
accept the amendment to the student handbook? Motion >> and a second. >> I'll second. >> Any discussion? >> Can you give me the the reasoning for the addition to >> Yes. Our goal is improved attendance, improved student achievement. You can't have student achievement if the kids aren't here. And we have had um excessive absences and we're trying to crack down on it at the middle school, high school especially. And therefore, it was felt that this could help us having it not be uh elongated. And then all of a sudden now a parent is coming back in a week later. Oh, by the way, and then excuse him. Has that been a problem? >> Yes. Yes. At the middle school high school, not at the other grades. Um, it's a phone call. >> I I recognize
that. Um, okay. I'm just trying to think I'm just trying to think of situations or or reason why why a a parent might need to be here from that 48 hour. Uh, I just want to make sure that that somebody doesn't want to be able to hold parents and students accountable, but still allow for those situations that might come up where more than 20 or $48 is necessary. But in my head, I can't think of >> well like some somebody's phone if somebody doesn't have money to pay the phone bill, >> they can help me. >> Okay. So, as long as there's alternative options, notes, emails, those types of things, >> just about everybody. >> Okay. 48 hours from the students return. Correct. Two school days. Okay. Go ahead. That was one of our thought
processes on that exact in that emergency where you don't have a moment to call. >> Yeah. Don't usually by your intern that does settle 2 days. Great. >> And if there's a medical concern, we're working on getting through the medical documentation. We mark it as an excuse for the shortterm update if you know what's coming. >> Okay. >> Sometimes it takes. >> Sure. >> Okay. Excellent. I would say it's probably there's some safety concerns that are addressed with this, too, because if you have a student that's out for an extended period of time, it just miraculously shows back up. You do want to know from the parent or guardian what had pulled that student out. >> Perfect. Okay. Um, any further discussion? All in favor? >> All opposed? Motion carried. Personnel termination. Uh, Renee Tallow
>> Taylor. Um, par profofessional Glenn Elementary School effective date of termination September 30th, 2025. Motion. >> I'll make a move. Motion to be approving the termination. Approve the termination of Rene Taylor. >> I'll second. Any discussion? All in favor? >> I. >> All opposed. Motion carried. Resignations. Um Tyler Chillum, 7th grade boys basketball coach. Effective date of resignation October 7, 2025. And Patrick Oat Brian Jr. facilities director. Uh Glenn Area Community Schools effective date of resignation September 14, 2025. >> Nvember 14, 2025. Thank you. >> I'll make a motion to accept the resations. >> A second. >> Any discussion? >> We'll miss you. >> I'll miss you. >> Yes. We would have been able to get the lights on. >> The timing of that is perfect. >> Perfect. >> It's a sign. >> You will
be missed. >> But also, congratulations. Um, all in favor. >> All opposed. Motion carried. Employment. Eugene Anderson, custodian. Good Middle High School, effective date of hire, September 15, 2025. >> I'll make a motion to accept. >> Second. >> Any discussion? >> Welcome, Yui. >> Any or all in favor? >> All opposed? Motion carried. Barbara Matson newour supervisor Gwyn Elementary School effective date of hire September 17 2025 >> I'll make a motion to accept park >> second >> any discussion >> all in favor >> I >> all opposed motion carried Kelly Bilmer supervisor >> Gilbert Elementary School effective date of hire September 17 2025 >> I'll make a motion to accept Kelly Second. >> Any discussion? >> Welcome, Kelly. >> All in favor? >> I. >> All oppose. Motion carried. Adam Grant, uh, par professional win

Uh Gwen Mary Mixers assorted school supplies donated to KI Elementary School and Gilbert Elementary School. Um Walmart of Marquette Assorted School supplies valued at $94757

Mark and Susan Bo Chanton. >> Sure. >> Uh, art supplies donated to Kim Zoring's classroom at Gwyn Middle High School and Ryan Leinsky.
