Yes. Eric Green >> here. >> Aisha Coulson Walters, >> she's absent tonight. >> Jeff Perry >> here. >> Sarah Johnson here. Dr. Michael Glass >> here. >> And then Melissa and Angela both just texted that they are on their Oh, Melissa's here. Sorry. >> I believe we've made it. Okay, great. Angela's on her way. >> Okay. >> And then Jessica Lininger >> here. >> All right. Very good. We do have a quorum. Would everyone rise and join me in the pledge of allegiance? I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America to the stand indivisible and justice for all. >> Thank you very much members. You do have the agenda in front of you. I'd be happy to entertain a motion to approve that as presented. Some move >> support. This was
moved and supported. Any discussion on this motion? Hearing none. Those in favor say I. >> I. Opposed. Motion carries. Next, we have several recognitions and comments from interested citizens. Starting with board of education members. Uh any comments from board members tonight? Angela has just joined us. That's my comment. All right. Hearing none, uh, next is our MYIPA recognition. I'm going to turn it over, I think, to Dr. Patterson. >> Sure. I'm going to turn it over to uh two of our fabulous Lake View teachers at the high school, uh, Jodie Darllet and Darcy Hassie to talk, um, about the Michigan Intercolastic Press Association awards for our students. Those students who are entering members of the board of education, administration, families, and guests. Before we recognize our student journalists and media staff, I want to take
a moment to celebrate what an extraordinary year our programs have had. I'm Jodie Darlin, the broadcast journalism teacher. And I'm Darcy Hassing. I am the print media newspaper and yearbook. Our students in yearbook, newspaper, broadcast, and sports media continue to represent our school community with creativity, professionalism, and an incredible work ethic. All four of our media programs earned outstanding recognition at the state level this year. First, our newspaper newspaper, The Crystal, took home three first place awards, one second place award, and two third place awards, and six honorable mentions. The log staff was awarded 10 first place, five second place, five third place, and 16 honorable mentions. In the Phil program, four students received first place awards, three students earned second place honors. The entire Spartan Nation staff won two second place um awards for
collaborative projects that they did as a staff. And um we had uh two oh six students earn third place awards along with 16 honorable mentions as well. So these achievements reflect far more than trophies and certificates. They represent countless hours of interviewing, filming, editing, writing, designing, problem solving, and meeting deadlines. Our students are learning how to communicate effectively, think critically, collaborate as teams, and tell meaningful stories, all while gaining realworld journalism and media production experience during high school. We're incredibly proud of the dedication, talent, and professionalism these students have demonstrated throughout the year. On behalf of our entire media program, thank you to the board of education for your continued support of our student journalism and media programs. Your support allows our students to develop authentic career ready skills, amplify student voices, and create work
that represents our school and community at an exceptional level. So, we'd like to recognize all of the staff who are up here. We've got Do you want to list your students and then I'll list mine? >> Yep. Um, Kira Bird, graphic designer for The Crystal. Maya Eldridge, editor-inchief of The Crystal. Violet Baranja, editor and co-editor and chief of The Log. Boyong, reporter, soon to be editor. Um, and Kayla Wood, editorinchief of The Log. All right. And I've got Ali Loy, one of the executive producers of Channel 101. Key Carpenter from Channel 101. Owen Davis from Spartan Nation. Laya May Frank, executive producer of Spartan Nation, and Jenna Klein of Channel 101. Congratulations. >> I know. I'm already congratulations. >> Okay, I think guys need to prohat. You guys can pose for that, right? >> Zigzag
zigzags. >> Windows. >> Okay. Two rows. Yes. >> Okay. Jo and Darcy, I'm sorry. You guys aren't in. >> You're gonna have to go to the end. >> Okay. Let me take your picture and then let your parents take pictures if they'd like. first. >> Thank you all very much. >> Leader All right. Next, I would like to call front and center Jessica Lininger for a short recognition. >> Guess the board. >> Okay. So, as you all know, Jessica has served as our student representative all year long and has been an outstanding job. Um, I would say one of the best student representatives we've ever had. Uh, providing us with excellent information every month. Uh, student perspective, which we value tremendously. Uh, and you have been so thoughtful and articulate in what you've shared and
asked questions about, and we just we appreciate you and we will miss you. And with that being said, I do want to read this certificate of recognition which is hereby awarded to Jessica Minger for meeting the highest standards of excellence as a student representative for the 2526 school year of the Lake View School District Board of Education. So congratulations, Jessica. >> Thank you. I'll let you guys. >> Okay. >> Thank you guys. >> And unfortunately, your final board meeting. >> Fortunately, >> unless you want to come back for more, you can >> in the summer. All right. And last but not least, um last month there were several of us that attended the um Alhoon Area School Board um annual dinner. And during that awards dinner, um the Michigan Association of School Boards recognized various
individuals um from Calhoun County who have achieved uh different levels of distinction as board members. And one of those who was not able to attend that night, but one of those recognized was our own Sarah Johnson who received the level is it three level one level >> level one certification from the MASB and I want to publicly apologize. I accepted those on Sarah's behalf and then I forgot to bring the certificates with me this evening. So I will get those to you personally. But uh congrats on your your level one certification. >> You want to walk the circuit? Alrighty. Uh, next administrator. Any comments from administrations today? >> All right. And how about our student representative report? One more time. >> Okay. I have a couple things that have happened in the last month. So,
our girls soccer team won the all city tournament um for the sixth year in a row. And then our track um girls team won all city as well and they won all their events except for one which is like a huge accomplishment. And then lacrosse also won all city. And then this last Saturday we had our track regional meet. I think it was on Saturday but um we had a lot of state qualifiers. Our 4x 800 boys got first place at the regional and qualified for states. our 4x400 boys, our 4x100 girls, and they broke the school record for this event. Um, which they got a 49.73, which seems pretty fast. I don't know. And then our 4x400 girls also qualified. And then we had um a couple individual qualifiers as well. Um Carson Lewis
for the onem, Aaron Starks in the 300 hurdle, and then Marcus King in the 110 meter hurdle. And he actually got first place. Um and then um a few weeks ago we had our multicultural week which was a huge success as always. It's probably one of my favorite weeks in the year. Um we had our multicultural assembly where we had different groups and people perform for the entire school. We had our fashion show which was great. And then we also for the first time that I know of or that at least I've gone to we had like um a multicultural showcase in the blackbox where there was a bunch of different like trifold boards of like different countries and cultures and people were talking about it and they also had I don't know if you've
seen it but like the bamboo sticks on the floor where they go like I don't even know how to describe it and like they actually let kids participate and it's way harder than it looks but everything was so much fun but it's it's been a great couple of months. So, >> any questions for Jessica. >> All right. All right. Next is time we have set aside for public comments. I don't have any information cards, but just do a quick scan. Any public comments this evening? All right. Seeing none, let's move on to superintendent and staff reports. >> Sure. We'd like to start with um an introduction to um um an introduction of uh Kelly Parish, our new childhood education, our preschool GSRP director. So, Kelly is going to give us an update. If you don't
know her, um she's already off to a great start >> getting our um preschool program license from Community Unlimited, who we partnered with um to Lake View. As you remember, we have uh two classrooms at um Prairie View and two classrooms at Riverside. So, thank you for joining us today. >> Oh, no problem. We have in our first uh two weeks of kicking it off. There's a uh 16step lure outline that we're following. We are currently in these first two weeks. We Wendy and I have been working diligently. We made it to step eight so far. Um and then we're kind of simultaneously working on the rest of the steps including next week going over which staff want to be retained with Lake View School District in the lensure transfer. Um working on kind of
trying to facilitate the inspections quicker since they are still within our one-year code. Trying to get the lead inspections, the environmental health inspections and everything so that we can hopefully facilitate that process and move it along for our August um beginning of the school year. And then Wendy and I met with CISD to try and seamlessly transfer over registrations for our enrollment this year. So she's been contacting families and finding out trying to kind of work with locations if they're going to be placed at Riverside versus Prairie View. And yeah, we're just kind of rocking and rolling and excited to see who our new little kiddos are for the fall. So thank you. >> Welcome. Yeah, there's there's so many different um areas that um just in the short time for folks coming on board,
what is it about been about two weeks now? >> Yeah, two weeks. >> Um >> from enrollment to um furniture. >> Yes. >> All the furniture from Community Unlimited was purchased by them. But we I think it was your first day on the job. We we hop on a call with Community Unlimited and Erica Burkheart from the ISD to start all of these conversations about it, what it looks like to transfer from Community Unlimited to to Lake View. And they they've been wonderful. So, we're going to keep the majority of of that furniture, which makes it easier for us because sometimes the lead time on on getting furniture to classrooms is is difficult. So, um, >> especially if it's a custommade for some of those areas. So, we have learning zones and we were able
to kind of negotiate and she was very um agreeable to to them taking keeping our smaller items and letting us because they were all custom to Lake View. So, that was awesome. >> They've already went through the classrooms and done an audit on all the furniture and supplies in there. So, um I understand Erica, I talked to her on Friday that she said that you guys are going to walk those classrooms and start having the conversation about what stays and what goes. Um I know Wendy's been helping with enrollment until Kelly's gotten up to speed and understand that there's a number of students already enrolled in the program, which feels >> we have 33 kids in the process of enrolling. Yes. >> What are the classroom sizes? >> 20. >> Yes. So we're almost at
at full capacity real soon. So exciting. >> So yeah, >> that is outstanding. Yeah, that is outstanding knowing that we we only have like 40 slots right now. So um and then we have to talk about staffing to ensure that we have a lead teacher, an assistant teacher, and >> a caregiver, >> which we just were able to get the list. I started that on that process on Friday and um they sent over community unlimited. So far we have seven that want to be retained by Lake View and would like to come back. Um so we'll be able to sit look and see you know of course how the performance was but be able to have them where they want to be pouring into these families. So it's exciting. >> All right questions. >> All
right. It's exciting. >> Yeah it is. >> All right. Um, moving through the superintendent's report, uh, public input report, there was nothing from last month and the retirement resignations, leave absence included in the pack. That concludes the superintendent's report. >> All right. Well, next we have uh eight total board discussion items. Um, and I know the board has seen all of these policy recommended policy changes before during a first read. They're up tonight as a second read and discussion. Um, so I guess I just wanted to open the floor and board members have any of these particular policies they want to raise attention to right now. Any questions, concerns about any of these? >> I know last meeting I had a question around policy 7010 around advertising. Um, and just wondering if that's been discussed
any further around um, folks that use our facilities and having sponsorships and how that was defined um, around advertising versus sponsorship. Um, they they put up a signage of someone who's sponsoring. >> Yeah. Tell me your specific question again. >> So, it says that we're that folks are not allowed to advertise. Um, so with advertise like Where's the line between advertising and sponsorship? Um like putting a sign up that says like thank you for sponsoring um you know our event and there's signage up there. Like some might define that as advertising. And so um having a no advertising um with different groups. I mean it could be um groups that are outside the school. It would be groups that are part of the school like some of our clubs. If they have sponsors, are they
allowed to post their their sponsors? um or will this um you know make it problematic and will also be more cumbersome for the admin staff to review those um if they need to review them before they can um put any of those things up. >> Yeah. And I apologize. I I remember your question now and and I can see it on my board agenda from um last month. So I'll get you to answer. I think um my short response is I I kind of think sponsorship is in the way of of like donation more um but I want to see how the policy speaks to um to your question specifically. So um if if we would rather table that until I got an answer um we could do that. >> But the policy isn't saying
that you can't advertise. It's just saying that it has to have approval. So, like somebody can't just randomly go and put their advertisement up in any event or any area on our property, but there's a process that you have to go through to do it. And that's what I thought this policy was basically highlighting. >> Absolutely. >> Okay. Is there an urgency to approving that? >> Uh, no. I think we can. So there's no harm in it. >> No, no, we can table that and um >> I'll get you that too. >> Those are good questions. Um other questions. >> All right. And when we uh in a minute when we get to the action items, I was going to um invite um if the board wishes to approve all eight of these or actually
all seven of these if we're going to pull one aside um all at once instead of seven different motions and actions, but that's going to be up to the pleasure of the board. So, I I compared notes with Wendy before the meeting to see if, you know, Robert's rules of order would allow us to do that, and we both agreed. Yes. >> Sounds good. >> Okay. >> All right. Next is our consent agenda. Is there a motion to approve the consent agenda? >> Motion to approve. >> Support. All right, it's been moved and supported. Any discussion on this motion? Hearing none. Those in favor say I. >> I. Opposed. >> Motion carries. Uh, next are those aforementioned action items. Um and it sounds like um well whoever wants to make the motion I would ask
that uh if they if you want to approve all these at once just make a verbal note that we are going to set aside item G for now. Table that for the next meeting. >> I would like to motion to approve items A through F plus H and table item G. So >> all right, it's been moved and supported. Thank you for that. Any discussion on this motion. >> All right, hearing none. Those in favor say I. >> I. Opposed? Motion carries. >> All right. Um that concludes our action items. Um item at this point for our next regular board meeting on June 22nd will be our annual budget hearing. Um and adoption of the budget for the coming year. Yes. >> And then the second revision. >> Yeah. Second revision to the current budget.
Got it. All right. With that, we are scheduled at this time to go into a brief close session. Um is there a motion to go into a closed session pursuant to section 8A of the Open Meetings Act? uh for the purpose of discussion and deliberation about the superintendent's evaluation. >> So moved. >> Support. >> It's been moved and supported. This does require a roll call vote. >> Don't mind. >> Eric Green, >> yes. >> Jeff Perry, >> yes. >> Sarah Johnson, yes. Dr. Michael Glass, >> yes. >> Melissa Mezer, >> yes. >> Angela Myers, >> here. >> Yes. >> Here. >> I didn't get to say it earlier. Very good. Why don't we take just a quick uh four or five minute transition time and um then we'll be in close session after that. >>
Congratulations on last meeting. >> Yes, you guys. Congratulations on your last meeting 20
