my name is kyla dean and it has been my honor to represent mountain view as student body president this past year it feels so surreal to be standing on the stage speaking to a group that includes some of my closest friends at our very own graduation ceremony and i'm so thankful for this opportunity these last four years have taught me so many important things like dedication perseverance responsibility hard work and friendship i will carry these things with me for the rest of my life and i would not have wanted to learn these things anywhere else but mountain view i have been in the musd district since kindergarten where i remember talking with all my friends every day about how we couldn't wait to grow up and graduate from school and the day has finally come
on one hand i don't feel much different from the little girl that walked into ironwood elementary on the first day of school but on the other hand so much has changed and i've grown in ways i could have ever imagined we have all grown in so many different ways and it's crazy to think that we are surrounded by one another in such a milestone moment of our lives these past 13 years can only be described as a roller coaster full of ups and downs twists and turns and pauses and fast forwards coming out of two years of a pandemic was of course very exciting but also extremely scary for all of us at the beginning of this year we had no idea what to expect or if we could really expect anything but i think
it's safe to say that we made the best of it all we learned how to appreciate every last moment and take nothing for granted which i think will be the most important thing that we take from high school i will never forget the feeling of being so close to losing all so close to losing all sense of normality and i think that will change how we choose to view the world our connections and our experiences for the rest of our lives i'm so thankful that we were able to get past all the chaos in the world and be here together tonight i want to take a minute to thank some very important people in my life that have had that have had a much bigger impact on me than they will ever understand first i
want to thank every last one of my teachers i speak for all of us when i say that mountain view has a staff full of such kind dedicated and amazing people and i feel so lucky to have been surrounded by their care and hard work i want to thank all the amazing friends that i've made throughout my time in high school the ones i kept from elementary school and even the ones i drifted apart from i'm so thankful that i've had the opportunity to know you all i also met my absolute best friend benny my freshman year and i'm so thankful for your support these past three years and for being there for me every day no matter what in addition i'd like to thank benny's family for becoming my second family and always supporting
me i love and appreciate you guys so much i also want to thank my brother ryan for being the best big brother i could ask for and for always being there for me and most importantly my parents mom and dad i have no idea what i would do without you both thank you for getting me through not only these last four years but the 14 years before these and for reassuring me that you'll be there for me no matter what thank you for being my parents and for being the amazing people you are your love and support keeps me going and i will forever strive to make you both proud there are so many more people that i could thank for touching my life in meaningful ways but i will be but i would be
here forever so just please know if we've ever ever had an interaction big or small i'm thankful for you we have all had many people in our lives that have made a difference and some of you might feel like you owe all the credit to them but in reality you all deserve the credit for your successes and achievements you did it we got through all those hard seemingly pointless assignments projects and performance tasks ourselves we sat in the classes we were where we were sometimes sleep deprived bored out of our minds or just distracted by something going on either in our heads or in the world but we pushed through and we finally made it after we each walk across the stage tonight and we get our hands on our diplomas we will have hearts
full of memories and minds full of knowledge and we can continue on through our journey through life this is truly only the beginning the idea of the future might seem scary and overwhelming but there was a time not too long ago when we were thinking the same thing about this very moment this may have felt so out of reach and impossible but here we are we took things one step at a time and we will continue to do so until we're old and looking back on all of our memories with huge smiles on our faces and lots of love in our hearts i look forward to the days where i will get to hear some of my classmates names on tv or in the news whether it's in a professional sport or winning an award
for being intelligent and inspiring if i want to leave you all with one thing please remember to always embrace your uniqueness and remember that we each have such a special place in this world thank you all for such an unforgettable high school experience i'm so proud to call myself a part of the class of 2022. thank you [Applause] and now please give a warm welcome to our senior class president taylor bilow welcome students teachers administration and family my name is taylor bilo and i'm your senior class president to some of you this evening i'm a nobody and to others i'm a friend but none of that really matters tonight we put all of our differences aside to celebrate each other's incredible accomplishment of making it through high school i know we all sit here anxiously
awaiting our turn to walk across the stage so i will try to keep this short the last four years have been one crazy ride the pandemic took away two years of our high school experience made us face uncertainty and made school even harder while all of that was going on a lot of us were struggling in our own ways but we made it through and it made us even stronger it's crazy to imagine that we are going to start a new chapter of our life the second we cross this stage i can still remember when as kids we couldn't wait for the day we would be all grown up and go into the so-called real world some of us dreamed of one day becoming astronauts electricians teachers doctors entrepreneurs and so on now that dream
that once felt so distant is standing right in front of us and now is the time to grasp it our dreams are becoming a reality and reality is hard work with some dedication and determination i know all of us can become or do whatever we want to my hope for you on this journey is that you don't lose yourself as you pursue your dreams be the person you know and love no matter what craziness might not be going on in the world don't ever stop being yourself our worlders definitely definitely nowhere near perfect and let's be honest none of us are either doing your best and staying true to what matters in life is all anyone can ask of you and all and all you should ask of yourself now usually this is the part
in the speech where you would start thanking people for all they have done for you in the last four years to get me to where i am today the people that i can stand here and thank already know how much they mean to me so instead of listing out a bunch of names i'm just going to say thank you thank you for sticking by my side through thick and thin and for pushing me to reach my full potential i would not be who or where i am today without you while our high school experience was definitely different than we could have imagined that didn't stop any of us from making the most of the time we were given now we finally get to take our first steps into the new world of independence while there
will be challenges along the way there will also be great times embrace it all and whatever you do make this new road a good one thank you next up i'd like to introduce luke mandal thanks taylor hi hello and welcome to our class of 2022 graduation first i'd like to thank all the teachers that helped us get here i'd also like to thank all the families for joining us and the eight members of my own family that fought for those few coveted tickets to actually hear me speak today for some of us it's been an interesting 13 years in the miranda unified school district but it's time we move on to greater things i could stand here and before you and attempt to recollect all the amazing memories of my high school experience for three
minutes citing all the people that helped me get here but that would be long and boring and quite honestly i don't think that would have an impact on anyone here because speeches good or bad should have some takeaway so instead i'm going to reflect on what i've seen for the past four years i've seen people truly accomplish some amazing things i've seen people try their hardest learn a great deal and become more than prepared for whatever they choose to do after high school i've also seen people not as prepared for what awaits them but it shouldn't matter even if we aren't prepared for what's next in our lives perseverance finds a way so to that i'd say it's time to truly start learning it's time to prepare for what's next it's time to move forward
thank you and speaking next the weirdo just kidding benjamin guillermo our valedictorian [Applause] hey guys um so before i start i'd like just to say that although i may not be the greatest at writing argumentative essays i can really not write speeches so i'd like to thank uh caleb humphries for really helping me out with this so thank you so good evening mountain view friends and family i'm benjamin guillermo as luke has addressed tonight i want to celebrate us the graduating class of 2022 i'm so very proud of every one of us who will walk across the stage tonight no pandemic conflict or social unrest have stopped us from striving to get here we all have come overcome our own battles and have gotten here of course we couldn't have gotten here without the amazing
help of our teachers who educated us our counselors who guided us and our administration who supported us i'd also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to friends and family who helped us along the way so let's give an applause for them i think that all of us graduating this year know the value of adapting we face the start of high school a horrible horrible ordeal we adapted we were struck with a global pandemic that cut us off from school and each other we adapted oh we learned online through terrible zoom connections and breakout rooms where no one wanted to unmute and no one wanted to talk to each other we all adapted and we came back to school together wiser and i know that as we go into the future we will adapt we
will learn and we will thrive we will be resilient and ready even as i work towards becoming the valedictorian i struggled with late nights overwhelming work losing a lot of time and sleep and wanting to give up i did give up for a bit but the sense of overcoming and growing kept pushing me further and i know that this ability to overcome and grow is in every one of you we all made it here we're graduating tonight and i know that our experiences here will help us get through anything that comes our way thank you for your time and congratulations to the class of 2022. [Applause] now before i go i'd like to answer a question that several people have been asking by quoting the esteemed writer and musician kanye west who once said a
lot of people were wondering what i would do if i didn't win i guess we'll never know [Applause] on a more serious note though uh nolan ryan once said enjoying success requires the ability to adapt and i believe that heartfelt thank you [Applause] again another hand for our speakers tonight [Applause] on behalf of the staff and administration of mountain view high school i would like to congratulate the graduates of the class of 2022. these young men and women through their hard work and diligent efforts have achieved have achieved an important milestone in their lives however this should be remembered as one of those milestones that they will achieve admiral william mcraven gave the commencement address to the university of texas class of 2014 in that speech he highlighted 10 lessons to help change the world
we shared this with the seniors a few weeks ago his thoughts were if you make your bed every morning you have accomplished the first task of the day it will give you a small sense of pride and will encourage you to do another task and another task by the end of the day that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed making your bed will also reinforce the fact that little things in life matter if you can't do the little things right you'll never do the big things right and if by chance you've had a miserable day you'll come home to a bed that is made that you made and a made bed gives you encouragement that tomorrow will be a better day if you want to change the world start off by
making your bed we see an amazing group of students and graduates that represent our school our district and our community and our families that will in fact change the world over the last 13 years they have faced challenges never known before by a graduating class learn the true meaning of grit of perseverance tenacity overcoming obstacles in ways they did not think or ever wish on themselves but they did it we are so proud of everything that you've accomplished in your four years here at mountain view high school tonight i am requesting that each of these individuals is given the respect they deserve and we reserve excessive cheering until the end of the ceremony the class of 2022 has requested that each student's names be heard when the ceremony is over i will invite you down
