the meeting we'll restart the meeting with the item five information items specifically 5A classroom Spotlight Santa Cruz Elementary School Miss renhard good evening president Downey Dr lopan governing board members I'm Stephanie Reinhardt the proud principal of Santa Cruz Elementary School I'm here to present our classroom Spotlight highlighting Arts integration at Santa Cruz this aligns to the musd Strategic plan goal one every student graduates prepared to create innovate lead and succeed with a focus on our gold standard signature program in the Arts this also aligns to the musd portrait of a graduate specifically the innovator attribute by incorporating the Arts students are encouraged to be flexible thinkers and explore Creative Solutions which will help prepare them for their Futures beyond graduation Santa Cruz has had a great start to our Arts integration program in our first

year we established our expanded specials classes to include drama media arts and dance in addition to our music Visual Arts and PE programming in our first year we had quarterly Arts showcases with one major production The Nutcracker this year every grade level will be showcased and we will add another major production The Lion King we developed an Arts design team to support the integration of Arts within the classroom this year the team will be working on developing a 5-year strategic plan for implementation we continue to provide professional development for staff this year we are moving beyond the foundational knowledge that we learned last year and shifting more into learning strategies and structures of Arts integration one of these professional development opportunities is called acting right the actor's toolbox in the modeled lesson coming up you

will see students utilizing the five tools that actors use these five tools are body voice imagination concentration and cooperation the actor's toolbox is a routine that harnesses these tools and prepares students for learning it is a physical contract that students sign to demonstrate their self-control of these areas these acting right tools help to provide Focus calm and balance and prepare students for instruction I would now like to introduce one of my second grade teachers Dr Kristen ozac there we go and one of my Arts teachers Mrs Terry nordoff they and our wonderful students are going to demonstrate an Arts integrated lesson utilizing the actor's toolbox at the end of the acting right routine the teachers and students will be combining these standards for ELA and drama using a drama technique called Tableau Tableau is basically

creating a living picture that captures a moment in time students will be modeling vocabulary they are learning from our Wonders reading curriculum in their tbls [Music] now we're going to move into our cooperation challenge boys and girls I need you to find your Cooperative group of two or more students remember to show us with a fist bump right boys and girls you all have your vocabulary cards and I want you as a group to think about do I know this word have I heard this word have I read this word you're going to put your thinking caps on quiet coyotes now we are going to talk about the definition of our vocabulary words I want you to share with your partners the definition of your vocabulary words quiet coyes all right now boys and girls

we're going to use our vocabulary words in a second sentence and I want you to pair share with your partners and share your sentences quiet coyotes sometimes we draw our definitions for our vocabulary words in class but now tonight we're going to actually show our Tableau for our vocabulary words the first step in the one minute Tableau is to think about your word how we've already done that in our vocabulary we're moving to second step share I want you to share remember to start I was thinking and as soon as everyone has shared put your hands on your knees our third step is to plan what should we make I want you to share what we should make with your group and once you have shared put your hands on your knees and the last

step is to create your Tableau boys and girls create your Tableau amazing I'm going to come around to each group and I would like the speaker to tell me what your word is what the definition is and what you and your partners are doing our word is spies and it means watches and seeing something and summer is magnifying glass I'm binoculars and Brandon is telescope very nice good job all right here I am at this group our word is Journey and it means a long trip human is a airplane and I'm a motorcycle thank you amazing work all right here we are at this group our word is nature and that means the Outdoor World and alah is a butterfly and I'm a TR Delan is a son thank you very much you all can

Pat your backs excellent [Applause] work all the teachers at Santa Cruz were trained on the actor's toolbox in July here you can see a few affirm ations from one of my teachers and a few of my students I love that students recognize the focus that this routine helps them with in addition we are seeing a decrease in Behavior referrals specifically looking at Dr O's classroom she has had uh six to seven Behavior referrals in the first quarter of each of the last two school years in this year's first quarter she had zero students and teachers have the tools that they need to help them succeed as we move forward our Arts design team will help us fully integrate the Arts into our classrooms this quarter they are doing some action research by developing lessons teaching

them and collecting data on the effectiveness of these lessons compared to grade level classes who did not do arts integration this action research will help us to evaluate and refine our program as we are implementing schoolwide we are also developing ways to connect with our community our artch showcases continue to be a big focus of that we invite you to The Nutcracker on December 17th featuring our fourth graders with a cameo appearance by our preschoolers and we continue to develop our teachers capacity through professional development Santa Cruz is a school demonstrating Harmony of the Arts and a symphony of learning I'm happy to answer any questions thank you [Applause] I don't have any questions I just want to thank the students and parents and teachers for that amazing demonstration and I want somebody to teach

me that actor's toolbox thing like I think that's really I I need that before I start the day that is really awesome and I think it's wonderful that you're implementing that in the classroom so thank you thank you I move on to [Applause] item I move on to NM 5B review of the 2023 2024 facilities project and capital expenditures Mr Harmon good evening president Downey governing board members and Dr lman the purpose of this presentation is to review the facilities projects and expenditure for the 23 24 school year and highlight some of the great things that have been happening around the district this uh will align with Goal two every student has access to and equity in excellent Educational Services resources and programs and goal four Community Pride through excellent customer service Sound business practices

open and effective communication and safe and attractive facilities I want to start off highlighting some specific projects um from our the sfb building renewal Grant starting with the roof replacement at Maricopa Wells this grant was over $2.1 million carpet replacement um at Santa Rosa through the building renewal grants over $100,000 awarded a complete repair of the well number two at Maricopa high school over $255,000 awarded some other notable projects uh through the building renewal grants we had roof repairs fire hydrant repairs water heater Replacements throughout the district some concrete replacement at Santa Rosa fireand repairs at Butterfield um collectively we received over $2.8 million in fiscal year 24 from the skate state school facilities oversight board up from last year's record year of almost 1.6 million our facilities Team Works diligently on this grant process

to maximize the funds we we receive the building renewal grants that are awarded through the Arizona school facilities oversight board are a big part of our project budget these grants can be painful to work through and drag to the Finish Line um and there's no project too small for um for the team to apply for funding as long as it's a qualifying project a big shout out to Rob Duran he's in the audience and him and his team and all the work that they do it really is is a a Monumental effort and it's really paid off great job I'm going to transition to um some an adjacent ways slide here um we have a number of adjacent ways projects every year um related to our asphalt uh kind of our repaving of our parking

lots or any fire Lanes will qualify for adjacent ways funding um here's three specific Firelane projects funded through uh our adjacent ways fund last year the rest of these projects are funded from The District's unrestricted Capital outlay fund we had fencing districtwide here are three specific projects Santa Cruz Pim and Santa Rosa wood floor paint and recoding projects at are middle schools and high schools those look really good our administrative buildings the maintenance transportation and the district office were built with bond funds and therefore cannot qualify for sfb Grants we funded the weatherization of these buildings last year um not only improving the look and feel of the buildings but also improving the maintenance and useful life of them as well some other District funded projects included uh tree trimming to reduce the amount of

broken limbs we get during storms LED conversions emergency lighting grass over seating um hydrostatic testing which is required every 5 years for compliance uh playground shade fabric replacement bleacher repairs at Maricopa High School carpet and flooring districtwide and an expansion of the maintenance parking lot this is just a sample of the projects uh that we wanted to highlight but not an exhaustive list um this last slide just shows an overview of all the spending from our District's unrestricted Capital outlay fund 610 as a reminder we received last year five almost $5.2 million from the state for Capital funding the other 4.5 million dollars we spent came from onetime carry forward funds from M this table breaks down the spending by category um as as listed in our chart of accounts 3.6 million for Construction Services

that's anything that that took place on you know on the building or the grounds um 3.1 million for textbooks and instructional AIDS 1.2 million for technology and 133,000 for furniture and equipment 623,000 for non-instructional software and 275,000 for vehicles that was a light year we did purchase some school bus but they weren't delivered until this year so um we actually PID for them in 25 that's kind of a fun overview of our projects and our overall Capital spending happy to answer any questions you may have Mr Harmon yes I love this presentation you know why just have a soft very soft spot in my heart for the maintenance on how hard they work um going back to the U Maricopa Wells roofing project um did sfb Cover the entire costs or were there some funds

that we had to pay because the build building may not have been covered because it was Bond funded that's a great question I might need a phone a friend if I forget but I think I got it the uh the gym at Maricopa Wells was funded with with uh with bond funds and so that was excluded from the scope um we did repair the roof we did a kind of a a an alternative replacement um since it was covered by District funds but it has a I believe a 20-year warranty on what we did on the gym so we did replace the gymnasium on our own that $2.1 million though that is the grant that covered the rest of the school okay um and some folks may not know but that MHS well number two

that has been a project that has been in the works for almost a decade so um so that was awesome thank you so much and yeah a huge shout out to our maintenance crew because they really do work very hard and a lot of this stuff is done over the summer and during breaks not to disrupt the school year so um and that's really hot outside to be doing some of these projects so Kudos and thank you Mr Duran thank you member coutre so I don't have any questions I just um all the years that I've been on the board it's nice to see this report because I know this definitely adds to our safe and attractive schools which is one of our our strategic plan goals um we want safe schools for our students

to learn in but I think in all the years I appreciate the fact that you have been applying more and more for the building renewal grants because what that does is that saves US money in our M budget so then we do have the money for the roofing or for buses or for other Capital Improvement projects so thank you to your to your team for reaching out and I Know It Takes there's a lot of paperwork involved in in doing those grants but it has saved us millions of dollars and I just want the public to know that that it costs a lot to maintain these buildings um it's not cheap to replace the carpeting or the roof or or the doors or any of the other things so um just just a big shout

out to your team and to maintenance and to you know and just to staff that helps maintain these buildings it does cost a lot of money so thank you for seeking out those grants uh and I'm impressed with the way that we've been able to maximize our dollars and that we have the money to continue to maintain our buildings so um just thank you I know it's a lot of work but like I say in all the years that I've been on the board I think this is probably the most that I've seen in improvements for buildings that has not come out of our M budget um so I'm impressed so thank you yeah thanks again uh m Mr Duran you we we uh we highlighted we get about $1.2 million from the state for

all capital needs if I if I'm able I give about a million and a half of that directly to the facilities team for for maintenance and if there's a special project we we can find some additional funds so to get 2.8 million on top of that is much more than double what we can typically afford I mean it makes a huge difference those projects so I'm like I say I'm impressed it's amazing I just build on member Anderson stole a lot of my thunder what I was going to say a lot a little bit of flaver to it this is the most we've ever received and U from the sfb on renewal grants um I believe it was six years ago we started to chart this and that year we got something like 50,000 $50,000

yeah that's what we applied for and that's what we got now we're progressively through the last five six years we've increased almost every year and this is by far actually I believe last year it was 1.5 million and this year is 2.8 million so um keep it going and what's a lot of effort the money doesn't come free the the state doesn't come to the school and say hey we'll give you half a million dollars it don't even come and say we'll give you $100 you have to work for it so again uh reflecting that member honors said Thank you to Mr Don and yourself for um pursuing this because it is money and that comes in additional to what we receive from the state and it helps us use that money and other things

like the classroom at least is a key Focus for the um for the board thank you president Dy thank you Mr har then move on to item six call to the public and we do have one card U members of the board may not discuss items that are not specifically identified on the agenda therefore pursuant to ARS 3843 1.1i actions taken as a result of public comment will be limited to directing staff to study the matter responding to any critic ISM are scheduling the matter for a future agenda the board requests that all comments be limited to 3 minutes or less and that the public refrain from using speech or language that is offensive or inappropriate pursuant to board policy 3-23 please state your name and only your name for the record Fernando ruman did

he stay yeah yeah I think he left okay so oh well you heard my voice I AP that was it we only had one card and uh I'll just say he did want to thank meropa School District but anyway we'll move on to um item seven consent agenda motion to approve as written second least we have a motion to Second Carolyn Lopez I adamary no I Tory Anderson I Patty coute I Robert Downey I so moved we now move on to item eight action items specifically 8 a discussion of possible approv the Personnel schedule Mr bakid thank you president Downey and members of the governing board and Dr lman we have the schedule in front of you tonight and I'll take any questions that you have seeing that there's no questions not even from me

to be in compliance with accreditation with the National Association for the education of young children as we continue to really aim for that goal gold standard we are wanting that gold standard within our preschools and we want this accreditation they are they do require specific pieces for compliance within the uh accreditation process and this is one of them with the specific verbage so we ask that the governing board approved as written I don't have any questions did you have questions I don't have any questions this is for who for preschool for preschool is this child on Child is This adult unchild it's for staff staff I think it's the restraint and seclusion policy so it's that's all appes to that's all I just need yeah thank you absolutely if there's no other questions motion to
