great couple of weeks back to school and I was able to attend the Maricopa Police Department ribbon cutting of the new police building which is a fastic building uh for all of our uh First Responders and heroes uh within the city to work in and so I'm really excited for the police department to have that and then I also was able to speak to an AP government class about uh being an elected official both in the school board capacity and city council and the students had such fantastic questions and I was there for a whole hour where they asked questions the whole hour which I was like how is this going to take an hour they certainly can't be that interested but they were and so our future is bright and that's all I have
thank you member Anderson thank you president dony I have nothing to report it's been a easy couple of weeks thank you vice president krae thank you uh well with the startup of school is startup of a lot of the Committees and meetings so um I've attended quite a few um meetings I did the Community Coalition meeting um addressing uh some key issues uh in our city uh regarding teens um feral cats uh seniors um so we had uh some great discussions um and we had some representation from Maricopa High School um one of the gentlemen there one the young adults was from our Unity Club at MHS and very well spoken very well organized I can't wait to get involved and and go out to some of their community events and help them um I

members of the board and Dr lman my name is parcella Banky I'm Brandy hman we are from be awesome we develop confident connected and successful youth through mentoring education and Community program um and we are actually here tonight because I realized I've never publicly thanked the district for all of the support and in kind that you guys have given us um that's allowed us to start up six years ago and now we're um I think we're a strong program um so I wanted to come out publicly and thank you guys and to give you an idea of what we were able to accomplish thanks to your guys' support Bri is going to share our numbers and I'll share why that matters the impact that we was people SCH 250 kids have gone to our after
school space camp in the last couple years we've reached 30 families with our family workshops 60 attended workshops on community topics including buing we've had 180 atted events and um one of the reasons it matters and we're really grateful for your guys' ink kind is um we evaluate everything and so we put out some Community surveys and found out that 72.1% reported that they saw the messaging that we're giving out at the tabling and the posters and things like that and how it's important to talk to your kids especially about underage drinking and Other Drug and Alcohol topics it's the number one predictor on whether or not a kid is going to use um in its parent involvement and so um of those kids or of those parents who saw that messaging 42.5% said they
bring up the subject of drugs and alcohol with their kids as a result our space camp kids we really push for them to go home and talk to their parents about it of those we saw a 26% increase in kids who were talking to their parents more than seven times about alcohol an increase for 27% about talking about cigarettes uh 28% increased how often they talk to their parents about marijuana and 26% about vaping and then our family's classes of the adults that took it 100% said that they were going to be able to use what they learned to improve their family relations and because I am a mother of a teenager I can say this they are stubborn only 85% of the teens said that they agreed so um again you're in kind donation
is huge the support you give us for facility the access the Partnerships um and we hope that um you guys find it as meaningful as we find it and I just wanted to say so publicly thank you I move on to nm5 consent agenda motion to approve as written second Le we have a motion to Second Carolyn Lopez hi adary no hi Tor Anderson hi Patty coute hi hi Robert Downey I so moved I move on to item six action item specifically 6A discussion of possible approval of personnel schedule I just an nice at this time that um member Anderson will actually recuse herself from discussion and voting because she's got a family member on the schedule thank you president Downey members of the governing board and Dr lman you have the Personnel schedule in
front of you tonight I'll take any questions that you could have Mr Beckett so I was when I'm looking at the schedule for the stiens I'm and this is just a procedural question so I notice that some of the stiens are paid Upfront for overloads but then the rest of our stiens don't get paid until after the first semester like for coaching for any of the extra stuff that is the m&o stiens why is that thank you member krae typically we align those with uh the sports season for coaches and I believe the the protocol is half and half you pay half at the beginning or half halfway through and then half at the end it's my understanding if that's if that's fine but we don't do that for the overload St stiens the overload
stiens get their full at the beginning of the semester and not split halfway correct that's correct we we make a commitment through our scheduling and for our students and ever make sure that we have that class available for those students for the entire first semester we reevaluate those then at the end of the first semester to see if we want to renew those for the second semester okay thank you for the question all right and then um it's not a question but I did want to um give a shout out to one of our um uh stiens who um number 69 who received National certification for speech pathologist and I think that is awesome and we need to recognize any time that they go above and beyond uh what they're working so congratulations to Rosie
thank you no other questions on motion to approve second Le we have a motion to Second Carn Lopez I adamary no I T Anderson recused Patty coute I Robert Downey I so moved now move on to item 6B discussion and possible approval to award CM contract new school project Mr Harmon thank you president Downey members of the board and Dr Lan you have an agenda item before you for the award of our construction manager at risk for the new serrento school project to Chase Building team um we uh issued an RFQ on June 13th um for the semar vendor we reive responses and our committee evaluated those responses and we're asking today for approval for Chase Building team take any questions you may have Mr Harman just uh you know I like to just clarify
things for the community at large um you say responses I just want you to actually say this was a competitive bid there wasn't just one bid there were multiple bids um we did do a review and and basically select the best bid yeah absolutely yes sir okay if there's no other questions or conversations about this I motion to approve I'll second at least we have a motion to Second Caren Lopez I adamar no I Tory Anderson hi Patty coutre hi Robert Downey I so moved we now move on to item 6 C approval sorry approve the meropa high school performing arts center projector and control system upgrade thank you president Downey members of the board and Dr lman this is a formality because it exceeds our our above the threshold so we're asking for approval
for the above the threshold amount for this pack upgrade to the control systems for our pack um this is a CTE funded project any questions you may have I will attempt to answer Mr Harmon how when was the last time this was upgraded I I'll look into that and I'll get back to you you what I will look into that and get back to you because I don't think it's been done since it was built about 15 years ago I heard that I heard I'd heard that so I just I mean it's time but I think it's money well invested so that's that's my own comment L principal mamy knows the answer to that oh you are correct oh see okay if there's no other questions motion to approve I'll second Lisa we have motion
to Second carollyn Lopez I adary no I Tory Anderson I Patty crae I Robert Downey I so moved now move on to item 6D discussion and possible approval to adopt the resolution for funding sfd 037 and for the new sento school project Mr Harmon thank you president Downey members of the board and Dr Lan um the school facilities division requires a resolution to accept the grant funding for our new school construction project we have a resolution drafted for Signature after approval for the uh construction amount just under 31 million and for the potential a 20% add-on for the donated site which I think is around $480,000 um take any questions you may have I don't have any questions I'm just excited that's all if there's no discussion or other questions I make a motion we
approve I'll second leis who have a motion a second Carolyn Lopez I Adam Mar no I Tory Anderson I Patty coute I Robert Downey I so moved we now move on m6e discussion on possible approval of the updated policy 3-19 to increase the maximum dollar amount for an individual job order from from a Jord order Contracting construction service from 2.5 million to 4 million Mr Harmon thank you president Downey members of the board and Dr Lan um we are requesting to increase our job order contract limit from 2.5 million to 4 million statute has it at a million dollars uh that's the default amount we raised it to $2.5 million back in 2019 for the portable project at meropa high school and due to this parking lot project at Desert Sunrise High School since we're
doing both parking lots it's uh it's just under $4 million and this limit will allow us to do a jock job order contract Pro for this project which is a probably the preferred method of delivery take any questions you may have I I the only question I have is I'm I'm fine with this but with our future projects that we're going to be looking at because I'm just going under the assumption that our bond is going to pass um is that sufficient enough are we going to have to come back every year and increase this so there are certain projects that are suited for a a jock and um a parking lot or installation of portable something that's smaller and simple is suitable for that we wouldn't we wouldn't suggest um a a the construction
of a school project something that large and that complex to be um under a job order Construction contract contract um so if necessary we would but we want to in the interest of transparency and kind of a a Hands-On board um we we will bring that up as necessary it's possible but but we think that these incremental increases are appropriate at this time okay because this is in policy so we're adjusting the policy exactly and so any job that comes in up to four million will be covered under this policy so we won it really won't probably need to come back to us for a long time maybe and it depends on the type of project um and depends on how we how we um Del how we um purchase the services and the goods
that sometimes divides the way that we pay for things so it doesn't exceed the 4 million limit that we have now so it isn't extra work for us to do this in the interest of transparency and um and um really just making sure the board is is aware of all of the functions that are going on regarding these construction prog uh projects it's four million for this project it is but there believe me we we considered we considered it a higher amount we are we're we're more comfortable with a an incremental increase okay so you can have control over it kind of we have we got we have control over everything but it makes Mak sure everybody knows that but it's gonna make less paperwork every penny every every nail yeah just so make sure
I understand Mr Harmon this is sing a limit that basically you and Dr Lan and sh's others can go almost by your sales without coming to the board but if you had this one every T10 million project you could always bring it back to the board and we can approve it as an individual project and not necessarily have to update our policy is that correct yeah and every every uh job that's going to be over $100,000 comes to the board for approval anyway and the next item is related to um a jock award over $100,000 um so in the history of of my time in the district we've only had two projects two jock projects over a million dollars it was the portable classroom and now this uh this parking lot project we do a
lot of jock contracts they're usually uh much smaller uh the bleacher project that we're doing at Desert Sunrise is is over 500,000 it's also a jock contract construction manager at risk would be more appropriate for larger projects okay if there's no other discussion I make a motion we approve second leis we have a motion to Second Carolyn Lopez I adary no I Tory Anderson I Patty CRA I Robert Downey I so moved we now move on 6f discussion of possible approval to award the J contract and above threshold purchase amount to Chas building team under one one GPA contract pv02 Mr Harmon thanks again president Downey and members of the board and Dr lman um you have a item in front of you for an above the threshold approval for Chase Building team to to
add two parking lots to Desert Sunrise High School question can I just ask her like again for the community why we're doing this I mean it may seem obvious to people who are close to it now we've got four grades at that school of a lot of drivers um this is our first year with the a senior so just can you make a comment while we're do this there's a just go there during a football game or a large event and you'll you'll feel you know that that we're parking lot light and we had a master Capital plan that had um I believe one parking lot left after we do these uh these two parking lots um now that we're having seniors driving and uh graduation upcoming it's imperative to add these parking lots and
due to the restrictions in funding um for Desert Sunrise High School the insufficient State funds we built the parking lots that we could afford with the budget and here we are uh going back we talk about all the the money we added to that project well this is a continuation of of additional funds towards desert Sunrise High School in relation to the insufficient State funding Mr Harmon um when I was looking at the plans for where the new parking lots um and the size of them and um um is there going to be a with those now three parking lots the way they're placed is there going to be a staff parking lot versus a student parking lot is there and is that sufficient enough because like if you look at uh Maricopa high school
that back parking lot off of Taft that connects right to the stadium is a student parking lot um and staff parks in the front of so is there going to be something like that and then my other concern was that parking lot that is closer to the fields the football field is that going to be gated off for security reasons when campus con session what we leave those staff and student parking lot decisions which are gladly we leave those up to school administration they'll they know the numbers and the the traffic that they're working with um as far as the security and the fencing we'll collaborate with our school level folks um and our maintenance department to figure out what is most appropriate we also have to we have to think about you know emergency
exits and access and so on and so forth so that's a more layered response but we could get back to you on that but are the numbers are the number of spots will that work for all of our students and our staff or are they going to have separate areas or do we need or will they be interwined we're tripling our existing parking space It should it's definitely sufficient for now we'll see at full capacity like I said there's future parking that was designed in the master plan okay this will certainly help us for athletic event parking and for student parking okay and we'll see how that how the logistics work out okay to be continued to be continued if there's no other question or discussion I make a motion we approve the threshold second
they have a motion to Second Carn Lopez I adamary no I Tor Anderson I Patty crae I Robert Downey I so moved we now move on to item seven adjournment so moved second Le we have a motion to Second carollyn Lopez I adary no I T Anderson I Patty coute I Robert Downey I so moved is this the quickest one so far no no no
