e e e Jo inedge of Al Al to the flag of the United States of America to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible liberty and justice for all pleas the oh I'm happy to Frost no no here here s here Bon here moons here TI here we six tonight where's Steve where's Steve vacation oh sorry good it's been two months um do we have any correspondence no okay and no Student Activities tonight get rolling and are there any visitors who would like to speak okay all right well um we are back uh one week under our belt it is we were just talking before the meeting how great it is actually have kids in the building um like the gears are turning it's awesome so it's good to have everybody
back um we have a number of First readings for tonight um feel free to to um feel free to let me know if you have any questions about it uh we'll be bringing them forward for approval in September but the first is a first reading of our gpis for um this coming school year we had a chance to look over these at The Retreat um the first one is notable only because the state did make the Shi from the SAT to the ACT um I think uh although you know some would argue it's frustrating that the state kind of changes the assessment system I think there are a few of us here who actually prefer the ACT over the SAT so Troy talked about that the retreat Retreat we're a little bit more um act
friendly here than I think the SAT so we're going to be okay with that the initiatives are the same the two projects for the year are there as well um really focusing on that act and then also exploring AI um because I think there's a lot of opportunities uh there to support the work of teachers so if we can save teachers you know time um in the work that they do that would be great so I know a lot of folks have already jumped into that so those are gpis Mark will bring um those back in August with specific action steps sorry that would be September which is the month after August um generally um and they'll have action steps tied to all of the gpis correct okay we also have curriculum um course course
proposals for you uh you saw all of these in the spring as letters of intent so um Mark and Troy had a chance to review all of these uh over the summer and bring forward um this first reading of curriculum changes we'll have more time to talk about them in September but in the meantime there's some name changes there's credit changes um most of which are fairly minor there is a new course on intermediate Chinese um there is um also a change in the sequencing for science in the freshman year so we're going to give you a chance to look at that we'll talk about it more in September the goal is to really create more Pathways for kids to explore more of the Sciences from freshman year to sophomore year so Mark will'll give
you a chance to dive into that a little bit more in September okay um so those are the course proposals first reading so please take a look at those and let let me know if you have any questions um each year we have a data sharing agreement with CLC this is just a first reading um CLC as you know is within the top three postsecondary institutions Troy that we send our kids to I think it's UI Indiana probably CLC it's something like that it's number two number two fantastic um so we have a data sharing agreement that we typically bring each year this just allows you know kind of that flow of information back and forth so thank you Pia for putting that all together we'll approve that uh in September and then um we
have a first reading for uh board policy update so again Pia does an amazing job of pulling all these together level a level b c d and e um and Pia were there anything in here that was noticeable the board for this month no a lot of the press update is in preparation of the title 9 changes so it is just a lot of word smithing really the only notable one is policy 4 colon 80 press raised the maximum account balance from 500 to 1,000 for any of the miscellaneous bank accounts that we have we have a special uh policy that had it at 45,000 and we don't use the bank accounts and so the bank accounts aren't existing so so we're just dropping it back down to the Thousand we don't need all of
that why do we have them if we don't use them we've just had these accounts and we've slowly been closing them I see um I think they are I'm correct me doing good you're doing good like PPA account type things that are closing slowly and R rolling into Student Activities so we tried to inor student funds correct so we tried to put all the student funds in there so we needed that balance we don't need that balance anymore ISB is putting it a thousand we should just put it at a thousand as well okay and if you've been paying attention um nationally there's some lawsuits regarding some of the title 9 changes so we're still trying to explore what that all means for Illinois we're one of the cases that um the Supreme Court is
referencing so more to come on that it may not happen in September but all the other press updates would corre uh we had another kind of amazing year of summer school Mark is there any highlights that you wanna should I just say the introduction of a new course called project impact was a really interesting thing that sounded amazing yeah a group of our teachers have been interested in incubating a course that's interdisciplinary and um Works to build Partnerships between our students and Community organizations to solve real world problems so is it open to anyone or is it upper level only sophomore junior senior so I just as a total side note I'm always very excited to share and just remind the board if you go to page two just the um percentage of uh students
in the ninth freshman sophomore and junior senior class that take summer school um and if you remember our summer unlike most schools we offer hardly any remediation classes in summer this is all enrichment um experiential opportunities for kids um opportunities to take required courses or elective courses so 60 n% of our incoming freshmen took a summer school class so over 700 kids Troy we're running around the building this summer as freshman just not a gobble just not a gobble um uh 400 sophomores 300 Juniors 300 sen I mean it's unbelievable you know the number of kids it's B number I mean our summer school enrollment is bigger than 90% of the high schools in in Illinois so it's just a weird thing it's so great so I appreciate it that social studies in particular and
the course changes is going to allow freshmen to take more electives and social studies because large percentage of them are taking their world history in the summer so I think that's that's a great change I appreciate that yeah yeah if they have a great experience in world history why wouldn't they want why not try some other things you know it's great I think this this was also the first summer we sent any students to Japan well since 1998 oh yeah I took kids to oh my go it would be the second did you actually did they all make home last C so to be clear it was the first time in this Century that we thank you that obiously yeah um okay myself right into that um let's uh talk about enrollment uh you can
see uh the most current enrollment report um we are at 4,7 1779 I think we got two more over the weekend kids um so yeah there's a lot um to be you know to be fair probably 50ish of those kids may be kind of outplaced um depending upon the day so I think that you know on any given day we we have about 4700 Kids on Campus so um without the new additions the the east building and then the PWC it would be really really tight so thank you for that um and even with all of that um Ted is quickly finding that um classroom space is a premium so I think there's some um kind of you know bargaining that's consistently going on to make sure we can have some space so but uh
Sean just in terms of enrollment projections that's a project that you're still working on with your feeder District p and I have been um working on figuring out the we've been having some issues with our demographer um they were bought out and then they started treating us as a single um school as Oppo as opposed to a Consortium with our feeder schools um so we have since gotten that rectified and we should be getting both projection for last year um as well as a projection for this year so hope to have that shortly okay you'll see um some um administrative and faculty changes uh you'll see some addition of um looks like one10 or 210 uh FTE um that is primarily because we have teachers who are um going on a quote unquote overload so
instead of teaching five classes they'll teach six um for one or both semesters and the reason for that is is we may have actually hit a record number of new movein this summer so the number um Troy that Ted gave me was well over 150 kids it's 160 160 something yeah so in any given summer sometimes it's 50 sometimes it's 75 every once in a while there'd be more than a 100 kids um but this year it was 1560 kids well that's a lot of kids that we did not bake into sectioning back in March so we had to you know alleviate some of the pressure on class sizes um by by adding sections and the easiest way to do that is by giving teachers who are interested in overload so we have to add
any ft the last well though well that's what these are no I get but in actual position no well these all add up to more than one FTE but we haven't had to we didn't have hire a full have to hire one person right yep you'll see some support staff changes um and then uh some other items there as well so all of that is in the human resources report for um for the consent and then tonight Sean we have a public hearing for the adoption of the 2425 budget yep in June um the board uh at the June board meeting uh the board took action to set the public hearing for today um we also um published the notice in the paper um according to the rules that are put out by ISB um
and it has been on display for uh the past 30 days um as well uh just a little refresher from our meeting in um June we are experiencing or we're expecting to take in about 8% more Revenue this year LED largely by uh property taxes uh because remember we're a year behind so we're still um taking a effect of the large cpis um and then the distribution from the ELC we're expecting to be over a million a half dollars um so our revenues will be about $12.6 million um our expenditures um are projected to go up by 6 and a half% again largely driven by our um labor agreements that are um in the middle of each of their contracts as well as the contracts um that we have with for student the ELC and
some of our other purchase Services all in all we have a total expenditure budget of 150 um $154 million or just over $14.5 million um so that would be uh a budget deficit um of a little bit of um a little bit under $2 million however if we look at just our operating budget we are in fact fact balanced um so we expected this to be be the last year of a budget deficit before we start um balancing our budget on an annual basis so tonight we are going to need the board um to open up a public hearing um take any hear any take any comments close the hearing um and then lastly um the board will need to adopt the 2024 25 uh budget as has been presented could I please get a
motion to open the public hearing on the proposal budget so second all in favor I okay we are in the public hearing do we have any public comments could I get a motion to close the public hearing on the 2024 proposed budget so moved second all in favor I iOS so now could I please get a motion to adopt the 242 District 125 budget as presented ter you please pull theard certainly Shia I gorson hi moons I Ty I no hi Ben ysph hi Carri six to zero okay Sean so emergency CAD repair yep so so unusual but yeah if you remember several years ago we had a situation and we had to bring before the board where we had what's called a ground F ground fault in the power lines that Runner our Stevenson
and it was out in Port Clinton um the interesting thing about all of the power lines is when they were laid back in the day they were not in conduit they were just coated wires that are underneath the ground those erode over time as you can imagine and you end up getting ground faults and interrupt the power we've had several of those coms come out they've repaired it now they're looking at it and they're saying it needs to be fixed well they require it now to be in conduit and the Beautiful part about it is that we're responsible for the conduit the boring and the installation um so uh based on what we did about three years ago um we have almost 2,000 ft of cable um that needs to be replaced from the at
electrical pole to two of our Transformers 4 B4 and B5 um based on what it costs us several years ago we think that it's going to be um in the neighborhood of about $1 150 to $200,000 um we don't have the exact quote yet because comad hasn't given us the drawings to give to the um various uh vendors or contractors that will bid this out to because it's an emergency we do not have to bid it out however we do seek three different quotes So tonight we are asking the board um to authorize the emergency repairs of the power Lanes power lines 4 B4 and 4 B5 at a cost not to exceed $200,000 and then we will bring back to the board the actual cost once it happens can we please get a motion
so moved second okay my question is how how are you going to do this now that school has started and there's people like are we going to have to shut power off to the building I we will what what's good is we can bore we can directionally bore put in the conduit put in the wire and then connect it at the last time so usually we shut it off at like 10 or 11: at night and they work from 10 or 11 at night to early in the morning when we have to turn the power back on it's going to be difficult yeah yeah but the good news is also that this is from the ComEd line to the Transformer we can actually run on our beer plant and which doesn't pull from the ComEd
power lines so it's t kind of in our Network and we should be able to run the our peer plants we interrupt we should not have interrupt Interruption we still do it in the middle of the night anyway is it the last one that you'll have to do or no it probably will not be the last one to do um but it's one that seems to be having the most problems um so we've done the one out in Port Clinton we have two out in the alley and then there's three other ones I think that are on the east side of our campus and just wait for those to yeah so that's going to be part of our master plan that we're working on determining like is it a waiting game like what happens um
yeah fun stuff so Sean um the reason you're bringing this to the board is one you know it's needed but two it wasn't in the budget so um that's why we're asking the board for approval so we've been running fairly tight the past few years in the budget so do we have we have we have room in the budget for this we have I have an emergency contingency that we use that will pretty much eat most of the foll Year correct we had very little construction planned for this year anyway um but this definitely takes out of the equation any projects that we're probably we going to do so the hot tub that Troy wanted to put out on his patio Troy's hot tub the the treadmill walking desks are all out that we'll have
to wait I put it in again every year keep trying keep trying um need go ahead nope you ready yeah any other questions for sure yes coron yes wounds I TI I no hi Vose hi so hi carries six to nothing okay I have a couple of first readings um there will be more information um in the mid meeting memos before we bring it to the board in September one has got to do with Event Photography services and the utilization of those Services throughout our campus it probably would not surprise anybody here how active our campus is and how many different events we have um and so that's kind of changed the way we think and Jamie will probably be providing some more information and for me in the mid meeting memo as we go
through this uh the next first reading is the purchase of natural gas and electricity uh just as a reminder um we buy future contracts for natural gas and electricity it's time to renew those for another year um we have been on the right side or the good side of all of those purchases for the last four years to keep our Energy prices stable um even if it's um you know we look at the price and because it's a fiveyear lock we can then build a budget a stable budget for those five years we then do have um a couple of foyer requests and then I just want to remind the board that we include both June and July's um financials in here because uh we did not have a a board meeting in July and
that's all I have for tonight I get a motion to approve the consent agenda please so moved second want to do it Terry can you please P sure moons I tyer I no ioseph hi s hi gson car six to nothing okay uh most of this we already talked about um but you can see a nice little picture of the team there so feel free to download that put it on your phone um there was an interesting article about uh grading practic assessment and Grading practices that are changing across the country um Wendy included some information about um the college board moving toward more digital AP um testing and I think within the next couple years Wendy almost every AP exam will be digital this year almost everything will be digital L of the math
and science will be hybrid just because of like the formulas and some things so um they're going to be partly on on computer or tablet partly on paper so good luck to [Laughter] T I wish him well yes um very funny uh we talked about uh item D and the aroma projections Sean and P are working on those um we had a safety meeting last week uh that Eric Ramos did a great job with tomorrow Troy is our um what's that drill day yep so um information has gone on around that safety is obviously something we continue to pay lots of attention to you have a copy of the guide book P everybody got aop guide book so um that's great nighttime reading put that on your nightstand and then um some pictures of the
trips that were out this summer so um very cool traveling to France in Italy and Japan and then last but not least congratulations Amy do you want to speak to uh oh yes the um board recognition we applied this year through very sort of long and tedious application for iasb board governance recognition just as a ton of questions in essay form about um how we monitor our superintendent performance how we decision make what kind of process is there for onboarding new members do we have a data deal do we have all that data do we have you know just all kinds of things and then with each piece of that you to write an essay and then provide backup links and data and all kinds of stuff so thank you to Pia first and foremost
for all of the help with that because she provided all of that information to link into that application so yeah so they're we got the gold star we're doing a good job I think you'll be recognized also at the Joint annual conference yeah there's GNA be something some kind of a I don't know what it is so something we have to show I don't know if we all do but probably Steve or I we can draw St yeah I will go if there's a thing or you know Steve wants to go but well congratulations Weller well deserved and that's all we have for tonight oh Lord could I get a motion to adjourn so moves second all in favor did I didn't think you'd come I would have texted you
