Okay. At this time, I'm going to call to order the January 21st, 2026 Polyway Management Council meeting. And we'll pay our respects to the flag and we'll have invocation after the respect of the flag. >> Pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Heavenly Father, we give you thanks for this day. We give you thanks for the opportunity to represent the Polyian Trail as our communities continue to uh support the trail itself. Lord, we ask that you just give us safe traveling mercies after the meeting and also look after us as you would as you do in what you do for us. Lord, in your name we pray, give you thanks. Amen. In

absence of Secretary McDonald, I will call the role. Uh, Chair Wright here, Treasurer Feifer >> here, >> councelor Watley >> here, >> councelor Kovven >> here, >> councelor Ross >> here, >> councelor Moore >> here, >> and count uh, Vice Chair Brefield is absent at the moment as is Secretary McDonald. So, we do have a quorum. With that, uh, with the agenda, couple amendments I want to make on the consent agenda on the original agenda, items, uh, C. Excuse me. Items D and E were not included. I passed out an amended agenda. Item D is to add the C biz insurance valuation report and item E is a letter in support of a London Mill. So with that, I'll make a motion to approve the agenda as amended. >> Support. >> A motion by Chair

Wright, second by Councelor Kovven to approve the agenda as amended. All in favor signify by saying I. Those opposed. The motion carries. Onto consent agenda. Any questions on the consent agenda as amended? If not, we'll get a motion to approve. >> Mr. Chairman, I uh would make a motion that we approve the consent agenda as amended. >> I'll support. >> Okay. I have a motion by Treasurer Feifer, second by Councelor Kovven to approve the consent agenda as presented. Uh any further questions on this? If not, we'll do a roll call. Councelor Moore, >> yes. >> Councelor Culvin, >> yes. >> Treasurer Feifer, >> yes. >> Joe Wright, yes. Councelor Watley, >> yes. >> And councelor Ross, >> yes. >> Okay, motion carries on that. On to public comment items not on the agenda. Any public

comments? >> Okay, hearing none at this time, we'll move on to citizen rep report. I forgot to mention uh uh uh Rep. Green called me. He is out of the state, so he was excused. So there'll be no report on that. Okay, moving on to unfinished business. We have none. Uh we move on to new business. Under new business, we have Alexander Bayer here as an Eagle Scout and he wants to do a project uh on the Palen Trail. So, Alexander, you're welcome to approach council and let us know what you'd like to do. Is it going to be on the >> No, we're gonna we're gonna have to leave it. >> We have We have packets. Uh everybody's got a packet packets. >> So or else >> he came prepared in everything. >> Let

them do the deal. >> What scouts do? >> I know. >> Yes. >> They're prepared. >> They are. >> Thank you, sir. Thank you. >> I took some. >> Thank you. >> This is my last one. >> You need him. >> Yeah. Go ahead. Sorry. >> He can I got my computer. >> I got my computer here. So, >> you got to share. Alexander, you're on the on the plot. >> So, I'm Alexander Byer and I'm 17 years old. I'm from Lake Orian. I'm currently a junior in high school and I'm also a life scout and I'm hoping to be eagle by the end of the year. So I'd like to discuss my project which will be removing garlic mustard from the polyan trail. Now on the agenda I'm going to talk about how I

selected my project. Uh I'm going to describe this project, how this project will benefit the trail and the community and the phases my project will have as well as the logistics, safety issues, list of supplies and the cost estimate. on to the selection of my project. I first con I first met with Mrs. Moran mid um on the phone in mid 2025 to help with ideas for my eagle project related to the Paulina Trail and she gives suggestions such as to build a platform made of pavers for a bench or a bulletin board along the trail or um a shelter on the trail for a bench. But ultim ultimately I wanted to clean invasive vines off the polyan trail because I thought this would have a greater environmental impact than building a bench. And also

considering they're going to be a lot of young scouts at my project be easier for them to remove something like garlic mustard um rather than woody vines like uh black swallow warts. Uh feel free to interrupt if you have any questions by the way. and onto my project description. I'll be organizing and cleaning up a specific section to be determined. I don't know when where yet, but I'll determine this later. And the garlic mustard will go inside garbage bags and uh will be put in a and will be removed later on. And my project will require a lot of management because there will be might be younger scouts in my project and it will be hard to keep them on task. And now on to the how this process will benefit the community. And by

removing the garlic mustard, native plants will have more space and resources to grow, which will help restore the natural ecosystem of the area. And healthier plants mean stronger habitats for local wildlife, as well as more food for the animals. And this cleanup will also make the trail more visibly appealing for people who are hiking and biking by. Additionally, this project will help save you guys a lot of money uh because obviously you don't have to pay boy scouts, but um and you can use a lot more more of your resources towards other trail improvements. And now on to the project phases permissions part. My scout master approved my project on January 5th and today I'm hoping to get my project approved by you guys and I'm going to request approval from my unit committee chair

as well as my district project project approval representative by midFebruary. Now onto the project plan and execution. Uh, I'll prepare and discuss my project plan after this proposal, including a detailed timing with my scout manager and Mr. Moran to get approval for it by March 13th. And I'll request support from my troop and communicate a date and time and location of my project before March 20th. And my scout master I'll ask my scout master to schedule this project in scout book and send out an email to my troop uh confirming the project before April 10th. And the final communication between me and Mrs. Moran confirming time and readiness of supplies will be done before April 30th. And I will organize the food, snacks, and drinks one to two days prior of the project. And then

finally, we will meet at the project site on a Saturday at 9:00 a.m. The actual date is to be to to be determined though, and that will happen in early to mid May. on the logistic part. Uh the people who are participating in my projects will drive themselves to the parking location close to the site and supplies like the garden gloves, the first aid kits and other tools to be brought with Mrs. Moran and Mrs. Miranda and I will help instruct other kids uh which and what designated area to remove the plants from and where to put the garbage bag so that they can be removed properly. Then food and drinks will be supplied by me and brought to the site. And after the project, we'll make sure there's no trash left behind at the

site. On to safety issues. Uh safety is going to be my top priority at my project. Uh to prevent injuries, everyone will need to wear gloves and closed toed shoes at all times. And I'll have a first aid kit on site in case of minor injuries. And if severe weather or something like that occurs, we will need to stop the project and move to a safer location until it's clear to return. And before starting work, I'll go over all safety rules with my participants to help understand how what everyone needs to do to stay safe. And now on to the list of supplies. Uh as I discussed with Mrs. Moran and gloves, first aid kits and garbage bags will be supplied by her as well. And I will bring the snacks and the food and

drinks for lunch. Onto the cost estimate. I'm estimating that this project will cost around $160 for the food, snacks, and drinks. For the garbage bags, I'm estimating like less than $100. And uh based on all the benefits provided, I would like to request approval for my project so I can become an Eagle Scout. And thank you all for your attention. Well, Alexander, you did a nice presentation there. You put a lot of stuff together for us to probably make our decision pretty easy here. Um, just a couple How many people are you plan to have help? >> Oh, 15 to 20. >> I remember Linda back in the day you you did some mustard pull, but you were like in a contest or something. Is that something that's still around? >> Still around. something that

might >> register the weight of the garlic mustard we pull and we would um notify like sis sysma in Oakland County as far as how many pounds of garlic mustard we pull. So we also have gotten permission from the HOA neighborhood that is adjacent to the trail that we share a parking lot with adjacent and their area is completely covered with garlic mustard so we can go in there and pull that too. So we have a lot of mustard full and we have a lot of energetic children that are gonna get it done. >> So >> um great presentation. Thank you very much for uh for the initiative that uh you're taking and uh for picking an important project. Um, I'm I'm not sure. There's a couple of thoughts I have, but one is I'm

not sure I understand the scale if if I and maybe I missed that, but in terms of the area that you want to focus on, the trail is pretty big. I'm assuming you're not taking on the whole trail. >> Yeah. No, we're not going to take on the whole trail. Uh, the specific section is to be determined. I don't exactly know where we're going to pull yet. >> It'll be it'll be probably Indianwood area. That's where our biggest concentration of garlic mustard is at. >> So, we've worked a lot in there. Garlic mustard honestly hasn't been in my uh radar, but as I hear it and I love to cook and I'm thinking I don't know that sounds like pretty good stuff. We sure we want to get rid of it. So >> tasty. >>

It is tasty. Is that we going to provide it to residents? >> We'll bring it to your house. >> Um one of my thoughts on uh the money that you're uh looking uh to spend on food and and uh drinks. Um, depending on where the poll is, um, I would, uh, encourage you, uh, either directly or if you want, uh, to reach out to me and I might be able to help you with that so that you can save those funds. And, uh, um, there's usually businesses in our area that uh, like to support projects like this. >> Okay. >> And I I would imagine that that's something we could probably help you with um, as a board and or me directly. So, um I will be happy to give you my phone number today

and my information as you uh get closer and uh determine for sure the date and the area. Um and I'll see if I can help you on that if you would like that help. But thank you for your initiative and I I appreciate uh you uh taking this on. >> Thank you. >> Any other comments from council? >> I say this answer. >> You did a great job. Thanks for this presentation. Yeah, I didn't know anything about garlic mustard either. I didn't know it was a problem on the trail. Nobody had brought it up before, so this is a newbie for me, too. So, thank you for all the information on this and good luck to you in your endeavors now and and for the trail and for the future. >> Thank you. >> Okay,

there's a motion in the packet to formally approve this for the record. Uh otherwise, you can create your own motion if you want one. I move to approve the Eagle Scout project request from Alexander Byer for the removal of garlic mustard at the Polyan Trail. Trail manager Linda Moran will oversee the project. >> Support. Okay. Motion by councelor Kovven. Second by treasurer Feifer. Any further questions or comments for Alexander? If not, all in favor signify by saying I. >> I. Opposed. Motion carries. All right, Alexander. >> Congratulations. >> Thank you very much. >> Good job. Thanks for coming out. Thanks too, Dad. >> You're racing. Good boy. >> Okay, we're going to move on to our next item 9B, which is the 2026 2027 MMRMA policy renewal. Basically, it's the same coverage as last year.

The things that change are the prices. In your packet, you see it went up $476, 10.4% increase. and our refund check has been drastically reduced to $380 this year. So, uh I guess the question to council is are you happy with the policy price the the service that we're getting? Do you want to shop it or do we just move on with what it is? >> So, um treasure >> I uh first of all the rebate almost covers the increase as we see there. Second of all, we know from uh from our working with the uh uh this uh outfit uh there this is our best option. Insurance is skyrocketing and I would fully support uh sticking with the renewal. >> Okay. All right. Any other comments? I'll support it. Is that a motion match?

Oh, I [laughter] uh I I don't have the motion in front of me, but I would uh move that uh there we go. I move to approve the renewal of the Polyian Trailway Management Council Insurance Policy with the Michigan Municipal Risk Management Authority for the period of February 25, 2026 through February 25, 2027 in the amount of $5,045 and authorize the chairman to sign the coverage proposal on behalf of the Polyand Trail Management Council. This $5,045 amount to be expensed to account 298-853-955.0000 00 insurance polyant trail >> support. >> That was a good question. >> All right, we we've got a motion by treasurer Feifer, a second by councelor Watley. Any further questions, comments? If not, Secretary McDonald, welcome. >> My apologies. No disrespect. And I did catch a portion of the scout presentation. And

I think the young man has a great idea. And you've got a great mentor in Linda. She knows her mustard garlic. [laughter] >> So with that, we'll uh we'll call the roll. >> Okay. For approval of the uh 2627 MMRA insurance policy uh renewal break, >> yes. >> McDonald, yes. Feifer, >> yes. >> Watley, >> yes. >> Wright, >> yes. >> Coven, >> yes. >> Moore, >> yes. >> Ross, >> yes. >> Motion carries. Motion carries. Awesome. So, I will get this signed. Gets this over to Keith Potter. Linda, >> correct? Get it back to Keith. The policy. >> I'll I'll give I'll call you. Okay. >> Got to get it to Okay. Uh, next item in the agenda is thisformational only, but it was uh a concern of emergency necessities for spending money. So,

what I did, I just put in the packet to just give council a reminder that there is a provision in the procurement policy to allow for expenses exceeding $500 in case of emergencies in the case of the ice storm. Linda, you can attest to the issues that were on the trail, the pictures that you sent. Uh so so with that justformational that if this does arise again the chair has the authority to uh authorize expenditures to get the job done and uh avoid any potential injuries that may occur. So justformational just want to bring it to unless any other questions or anything on this. Okay hearing none we'll move on to our last agenda item of the day is the quote fence repair on the polyan trail. Linda, I'm going to give this to you,

but in your packet, council, you see some of the photos of what happened in in Orient Township on this. >> So, a couple of things happened. I mean, we had the ice storm. We had a lot of trees come down. Uh Dave Vanderberg came down from Leier County, helped me get the broken trees down safely and off the trail. Um, Orian Township, however, a couple of these very large oak trees came down, not only on the trail, but on some of the wooden fences we have. They were completely destroyed. Um, Orient Township Parks and Reccks stepped up. I love my guys over there. They're fantastic. They were out there cutting it up before I could even drive from my house there, which is about 20 minutes. I mean, they were out there just cutting away.

I talked to Curtis about it and I also talked to Mike about it. I did call LJ Construction, who is our kind of go-to guys. Also, they're certified with MDOT, um, State of Michigan, DNR, Parks and Wreck. They're great guys. We've worked with them a lot on the trail. They came out, they gave us an estimate for removal, cleanup, and repair. It's about $10,000. So, I did make an insurance claim. So, the insurance has no problem paying for the removal of the the actual tree that smashed the fence, not the cleanup of the tree that smashed the fence, but getting the tree off the fence. Um, which Orient Township did. They will pay for that, but they will not pay to have wood chipper come in. They won't pay to have the rest of it

bucked up and hauled away, cleaned up. We're going to have to do that ourselves. It's not included in our insurance. They will pay LJ Construction to go out and clean up the broken fencing and take that away and rebuild it. So, which is kind of odd. So, I did talk to Aaron and I said if that is an issue, I want him to send us a bill for the labors that parks and wreck did. I mean, they should get paid. If we're getting an insurance claim on this and we're paying somebody, they should be reimbursed for helping us out. That's not that's above and beyond their job description. You know, we're we take care of ourselves and that was a big courtesy to the trail. So, I think they should be commended and rewarded for

that. Um, that being said, we're going to have to pay LJ Construction or someone else to go out there, finish cutting the trees down that are damaged or down and chip and haul away all that tree debris. That total from LJ Construction is $2,938. Our insurance company will not pay for that. That is going to have to come out of our pocket. Um, we can either pay LJ Construction or I can find I can have the tree guys go out there. We can do it. We can have Matt come out and ship it, but that's going to be not until the springtime because Matt's not able to get out there until the spring to chip everything. >> This is the one tree. >> There are actually two trees down on the trail and four that

are broken in the top that have to come out. They're oak trees. They're broken at the top. Those four are going to have to come out. Not including all of the limbs that fell on the other side. >> We're just talking about this site. >> Just this >> the insurance site. >> Just the insurance site. We're not talking. >> So there's all those other trees as well. >> Yeah. That will have to be chipped, but that that'll be later, you know, and we already have provision in our our budget for Matt to go out and chip trees. So, I think we'll work that all out. But in the interim, to get this insurance claim taken care of, we're going to have to clean up that those trees out of our own pocket somehow. And then

LJ Construction will come out and take that fence down that's damaged, take it all away. We'll make our insurance claim. And in the spring, if we so choose to rebuild those fences or leave them down, we can make that decision in the spring. So, you >> think of the whole the whole length of fence here in the photo? >> It's about half the fence that was damaged. I mean, not all of the fence sidings were broken, but a lot of the posts were damaged when the trees hit and shoved the fences because they're all connected and it broke and dislodged a lot of the base posts. So, because there are 4x4s in the ground and when the tree hit it shoved them this way or shoved them that way. So, probably six, seven of the

actual fence pieces are completely broken. They're thrown off into the ditch of the trail. >> You're going to take those out anyway, right? >> We're going to take those out anyway. >> So, it cost us $1,000 to get the fence removed at the at we pay them $7,800 roughly. >> Yeah. >> Because we have $1,000 deductible. >> We file the claim, >> right? If we file the claim and they give us the insurance money, LJ Construction will come out, take everything away. The insurance company will pay what they're going to pay and whatever the residual is, which LJ is giving us a price of $2938 to actually clean up the wood >> clearing >> and the fencing, the broken fencing, you know, anything that's down on the ground and take it away. Then our insurance

company will pay for them to take the broken fence away and repair the broken fence if we so choose to do that. if we so choose. You've mentioned twice in in this, so I I want to focus in on those words. What uh what are your thoughts on this? Uh >> last year, Last year, we talked about those fences coming out. They're damaged. They're old. They're not We're going to have to replace them. >> We're going to talk about it. We give you the approval. >> We got the approval to take them out. I've been working on removing them. So, I have one whole section removed north of there. Um, down by the pollinator garden, the west side of the trail, the whole wooden fence is gone. >> So, the tree has helped. >> The

tree has actually helped actually be part of the project. >> So, >> but I just need to know what you guys want to do. Do you want LJ to come out and cut all that trees, all the trees up off the trail, get rid of all that and take out the broken sections in the fence because broken sections are still there? pay them for that job and then not replace the fence in the spring. What do we, you know, I just want to let you guys know. >> So, the base of the tree that fell is not on Poly Trail property. Correct. >> That is correct. >> So, where where do you make the cut on the property line? >> We're going to go to the property line, the fence line. >> How do you

determine that? >> Uh there's a fence that is approximately 25 ft off the center of the trail over there. It's the old railroad fence. >> So, you can use that as a base. >> Use that as a base. the property between the homeowner behind us and the polyand trail property. There's 25 feet that is unclaimed. >> So you brought up that we should be giving some money to Oregon parks and recreation which probably is fair >> which will be covered under our insurance policy. So that will if we make a claim >> if may make a claim. Yeah. But Erin's not in the business of uh maintaining the piling trail for emergencies unless I'm um I mean >> they help us out. >> The same thing I told Linda like >> Yeah. I mean I

don't >> this is part of the deal. We She helps us with stuff. We help you with stuff. >> Well, it's relevant. Our team was already out doing work and so we spent an extra however long addressing that issue and then We waved our hands and we went on to the next one. [laughter] Thanks. >> I mean, they're they're good guys and they need to be commended. They're they're awesome awesome guys over there. They just >> sure, you know, but I think that if if it's necess necessary that >> Yeah. >> Parks Record is going to help that we shouldn't be surprised if we do get >> treasure fifer for over there. Uh, I'm I'm thinking out loud and that's all I'm doing. But I'm I'm thinking that um we have some costs. We have

coverage of parts of those costs. We don't have coverage of other parts of those costs. And so I'm just trying to piece together, can we utilize the parts that are covered even if there is no current bill to offset the costs of the actual expenditures we need to make? um or are we going down a um a road there? I in other words, do those do the fences need to be replaced for that claim to be fully paid? Typically, that would be the case. They'd want to see completed invoice completed. Okay. >> Um so I I guess the only thing that I'm kind of thinking is and maybe I'm going down a a wrong road. So again, I'm just thinking out loud, but if we were to build the Polyian trail as uh when it

uh we meaning parks and wreck were to build build the Polyand Trail um on what is covered and and has been done, then that would provide funds potentially instead of for that bill for coverage of some of these additional costs that we do have out of pocket or is that >> we're still going to have to pay $1,000. >> So the deductible is where we get hurt. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> And um LJ Construction did say that the cost to remove the things that need to be removed to rebuild the things that need to be rebuilt um is $7,798.92. So >> which is $1,000 in our mind, >> right? And then we would need to out of that $1,000 would be a deductible. So we would have you know >> Yeah. So, the check in

theory from the insurance company would be somewhere around $6,800. >> That's only if we replace the fence. >> It's a fence we want to remove. So, that makes sense, >> right? And um the the insurance would pay some monies, unknown monies to have that fence completely or removed, all the broken pieces and taken away. They would pay for that. But I don't know how much. >> Yeah. >> You don't know what the cost is just to remove the fence then? >> How much time would it take you to do it if you were doing it? Estimated time. >> Well, the the problem we we come into is the debris that's laying around. If we equate if we figure out how much that's going to cost me a couple thousand dollars to get that out of

there no matter what. um than to actually remove the fence >> based on $2,000 based on what? >> Um just to have it cut up and to have it wood chipped. I mean it it's not >> you use a third party then. >> Yeah, I can't I couldn't do it that. We'd have to get a wood chipper. We could have Matt in but again it wouldn't happen till the springtime. So then we're in that situation. We'd have to wait until spring to take the fence down itself would probably take me 10 days a week. I mean I and another person or something. I mean, we would think is we're going to pay $1,000 to to repair >> for whatever the cost is. Is that something LJ is willing to do under the insurance coverage for

$1,000 to us and whatever he charges us claim it against the insurance? >> No. >> See, so director uh Secretary McDonald, I'm I'm thinking out loud. um that why are we talking about replacing the bad pieces of fence that have been injured or destroyed and are are covered by our insurance. Um we're not going to replace the other sections. Uh so why wouldn't and I'm just thinking out loud. [clears throat] We got a $1,000 deductible. Why don't we pay for the tree clearing at the price of $2,938 and not use insurance? I mean, is that >> uh too far-fetched? >> No. >> To I'm just I really don't want to >> and that's >> submit a claim for the fence repair when we don't want it and or need it. >> Right. And that's why

I'm just bringing this information to you. We can pay LJ to come in and remove that stuff for $2,000 and get that all taken care of. We're done until spring. >> The trees. >> Remove the trees. >> Not the fence. >> No, but just take away everything that stopped. >> We get the debris from that's associated with the tree. >> Yeah. >> Hitting the bridge. >> Right. So, it's all cleared out. Then come springtime, I and you know the volunteers can go out there and we can take the fence down, but which I was planning on doing anyway this spring this summer. So it's the next fence up next fence up on the list. >> That was a I mean I'll go backwards here for myself. Is is it a claimable uh event if you

just take the fence down or does it have to be reerected from the original state or to the original state? >> Oh, >> I think the insurance will say if you want the fence repaired, we will cover it. We don't >> you don't want the fence repaired. >> We're not going to cover >> they're not they're not going to >> they're not going to cover it or they will >> they're not going to cover it. >> Um taking down the rest of the fence at least. They're they're only interested in what the damage was. And I mean I'm not an insurance agent, but I I've had enough claims in my lifetime where they're pretty particular about what you can do with the money that >> they authorize. >> They don't want to make you better

off than when you got there. They just want to make you whole. >> Not knowingly. They certainly won't. >> Anybody else? Okay. Uh, Vice Chair Breakfield. >> I've got a question for Linda. Okay. The quote for $293 for the fence removal and the tree removal and all the stuff to get it out of there. >> Would they requote it if you take the fence away later than the year and just tell them their job is just to get the fence I mean the trees cut? Well, the trees cut and removed is the $2,938. To remove the fence and repair the fence is $7,700 >> Without repairing the fence, >> it would be $2,92. Yeah. And 8 cents. >> And that's even if it's leaving the fence there, they're still going to charge the same amount

of >> Right. Yeah. Well, they're only going to take away what's down. They're not going to they're not going to take anything additional away. They're just going to take the tree and the broken fence pieces away and that's and leave the rest. >> Yeah, >> Treasure Feifer, >> I think I think um it'd be worthy the insurance company is is a little different than your traditional insurance company. But irregardless, if this were um for my business, what I would do is I would call and talk to the insurance company, say, "Hey, here's the real deal. We're we want to get rid of these fences anyway." Um and you you know, just have the discussion with them and say, "Here's where we want to end up." >> Right? >> And what would you how would you

handle that as the insurance company knowing that information? And then from there, we'd have a decision to make. um as because they might look at it and go, "Well, hey, we can spend a lot less, but help you get to your finish line. Um, and maybe maybe they're going to look at it differently than what we're thinking here." And because none of us are in that uh role, I think that's worth a discussion. And then based on that, we can make a decision. Um, and I that discussion would maybe be, you know, I I don't know if you deal with the insurance typically or or you as the chair, but uh to have >> kind of a tag team. It's kind of a tag team. >> I think it'd be worthy of the conversation. Here's

where we want to end up. Here's what happened. Uh, obviously we're a we're a nonprofit and and we need to do the best we can with the the the small amount of funds we have. cry, beg, and uh and see and maybe we come out of this uh in a better in a better place than what we're thinking possible right now. That's all. >> Professor Ross, >> is there any issue waiting another month for a decision we go back and get? >> It'd be two months and technically no. The trail is safe and clear. Um everything is off the trail. It's in the ditches at this moment. There's not a 911. >> H >> there's not a 911. >> Not a 911 >> that's been dealt with. >> All the 911s have been dealt with

as I know right now. [laughter] >> So our next meeting is in April. So that gives time to actually bring this back and >> and we'll figure we'll talk to Curtis and figure out uh >> oh >> what Curtis said or we could make a conditional authorization depending on the response. In other words, if the insurance company is willing to cover some portion of the fence, let's call it just recovery, fence recovery, but not new construction. Um, they're willing to pay a portion of it, we we could authorize the to accept that, including the tree clearing, and then pay for pay the deductible. But if not, Uh boy, I don't have the answer for that. >> It just seems like we're going to wait till April. >> Well, the the situation is this. We're going

to have to pay for the cleanup. Whether that is broken down on the ground, the the mess, we're going to have to pay to have that cleaned up. Whether we pay ourselves to do it, we do it, which there's a lot over there. I don't want to do it. Um or we have LJ come out and do it. they can do it in a couple hours. It would take me a couple of weeks, you know? I mean, that kind of stuff. They have grapplers take care of it. So, that's $2,000. We got to pay for that from some area. Somebody has to get paid to take care of that. >> Um, and then in April, we can make a decision based on what we find out with the insurance company as far as are they

going to pay a portion of the fence or what they're going to do. Out of that portion, though, we will have that $1,000 deductible. So, if their consideration to us doesn't equal or exceed $1,000, we're still going to have to pay out of pocket for it. >> Council Watley, either way, the tree is going to be done. So, it we have I think we should approve to get the tree work done um at the cost that was presented, not to exceed that. I also have a recommendation. We have a um Jeremy's Tree Service. it based out of Lake Orian. We've used them for probably 10 years. The rate is I mean LJ doesn't do that work. No >> to be honest. Probably going to outsource it. >> So you might as well get somebody that's

based out of Lake Oran that's going to probably quote you half that cost to do the work. >> And if it's not diseased trees, we could probably take it the debris somewhere in our organic dump pile. But if we decide to do a insurance claim at the next meeting, we can still include that cost into the insurance claim. It's not like we have to decide to do an insurance claim, then do the work. The work needs to be done no matter what. So, we can figure that out later. >> Yeah, I I agree with that as far as uh you know, not locking ourselves into $2,93.88. You know, somebody might come in like councelor Wley said 1,200 bucks or something >> and I have Jeremy's number so I will give him a call. Yeah. >>

Okay. Vice Chair Brefield. >> I know Erin's motion was rather but I'll second his motion. [laughter] >> Jeez. Well, should I ask for a repeat, sir? >> I'll make a motion. [laughter] All right. What time is my number? What time? >> I'll make a motion >> to um authorize Linda uh of a cost not to exceed $2,938 for the tree clearing along the trail and just that's it. Proceed with that. >> Okay. Motion by councelor Wy. We have a second by Vice Chair Brefield to authorize Linda up to $293.88 for tree clearing. >> All right, sounds good. >> Questions, comments? >> If not, we'll do a roll call for money expenditure. >> Okay. Okay. On the motion to approve uh uh three removal uh for the uh involved area in in Orian Township. Um Feifer,

>> yes. >> Watley, >> yes. >> Wright, >> yes. >> Kovven, >> yes. >> Moore, >> yes. >> Ross, >> yes. >> Breakfield, >> yes. McDonald. Yes. >> Okay. The motion does carry. Okay. Now, as far as the offense itself, that'll be at a later date. You and I will be getting with Keith Potter on that. Okay. U with that uh note. We are at the end of our agenda. Public comment. Alexander or Dad, do you want to make any comments to us? Okay. Okay. Moving on. Council member comments. We'll start over with U. Councelor Moore, let's go that way. Oh, >> great. First in line. Fine. There you go. >> You want to be last? [laughter] You want to be last? >> I always hang out in the corner so nobody sees me. It's

pretty easy at my height. >> That's why you get called on first. >> So, I uh I want to thank everybody that's replied to the letter of support that I put out. We did it very generic. So, you can you can make it your own with your own letter head and uh your association. Did you get your letter finally? >> I did not. >> You did not. No, I got nothing. >> She said she sent it. The our my uh gals in the office wanted to take this off my place. They put that letter together. I thought they did a pretty good job with it. And then they asked, "Well, who do we send it to?" And I said, "Anybody you can think of." So, if you got a letter, thanks. If you haven't sent

it back yet, thanks. But some people I was told to send it to, like Aaron, I was told to send you one. And and Matt, I was told to send you one. I think Jack uh Curtis had asked me to send them to you guys. So, Sure. That's my fault. I did not send it back yet. >> We missed the deadline on that. >> Well, this is about, you know, the meeting that we're still putting together for the mill. And prior to that, on like December 23rd morning, I had a meeting at at our congresswoman's home with some other elected officials for the reception there. I was surprised at how many people actually knew about the Leonard Mill and asked me, "How's the mill doing?" that uh that struck me as odd. Some people I

never expected with a lot of a lot of local people you see on the news dignitaries like Mark Hackle and them were there and they you know that that was good because I grew up in East Point. So when I said that they all wanted to talk to me a little bit so that was nice. So and that letter uh is going everywhere now. This we had a meeting yesterday. That letter is now going viral. It's going down to uh Washington DC through MLAN's office. So we'll see what happens with that. So, a lot of support for the mill. So, the other I'm going to come back. I'm a little needy though. I need another letter that I'm going to come around and ask for for for that meeting I had yesterday. They said everything

I do and I asked for money. Well, you need three at least three letters of support and they want board member letters. They want board letters. That's what they want. So, I need one for our paving project for Rochester Road. So, that'll come around shortly. So, thanks for all that. And uh that's all the news from Leonard. >> All right, council closing. >> I just want to thank uh Linda and everybody that helped clean up the trail. I know it was a mess. It was it was a mess and that ice storm was pretty bad. So thank you. Thanks the parks and wreck folk. Appreciate it because I know it was a lot of work. >> Feifer. >> Yeah, thank you. You're uh we're you're earning it this year. We got a real winner again,

huh? you know, just when I think I'm done, >> they come back. >> Pulls you back in. Yeah. >> Well, thank you uh for uh your hard work and stewardship. And uh yeah, parks and wreck, I actually had a tree that was blocking a um one of the regular pathways in Orient. And I was trying to move the thing on my own, which um probably shouldn't done. I I was sore for days, but Aaron uh had guys over there within no time at all to take care of it. So, uh, thank you to you and your team. Uh, as as usual, they're fantastic. And, um, Alexander, great presentation. We appreciate you, uh, um, picking a a good local project that's important and, uh, maybe a little under the radar for some, uh, but I think

it's a great project and if we can uh, do anything to support you in your efforts, please let us know. And thank you for raising a good boy and uh, and bringing him out. Uh, and that is all. >> All right. All right, Secretary McDonald. We're off to a great start, aren't we, for the year? Um, I please excuse my lateness. I'll try not to let that happen again. Be careful out there on the roads. That's all I can say. But thank you, >> Council Wall. Not a whole bunch. Just one thing about the Eagle Scout. Um, we hire quite a few people and if there's two equally qualified candidates, right, that are applying for the same position and one's an Eagle Scout, one's an Eagle Scout, all day an Eagle Scout. So, it it

may seem um it's a huge endeavor and so people in the future will appreciate that and they'll recognize it. Well, hopefully they will. So, >> they will. Good work. >> They will. Councelor Ross, >> No comments. Vice Chair Brefield. >> Like Mike said, this is off to a great start. I like these short meetings and I apologize for being late, but uh be careful when you leave here. It roads are still icy. And that's it. Except I have eggs if anybody wants eggs. [laughter] >> All right. Uh couple things and I'll then I'll let you finish up. Uh the co the culvert will be a springtime thing for Mr. Alexander. >> It'll be Yes. Alexander [laughter] Alexander. This is Mr. Alexander. >> He is in Florida at the time at this time. Uh so we

will probably be, you know, once the weather gets warm anyway. We're not going to be doing too much out there with frozen ground. So it is to be determined. So we're just kind of rolling along. >> Lights come off the Larry Oak Bridge. Bloods get taken down. >> Yeah. Oh, and can I talk about the rock? Can I talk about the rock? >> Can I talk about the rock? >> Oh, please. >> Yeah. Talk about the rock a little briefly. >> Briefly, way back when the world was much younger. >> It's not going to be brief. [laughter] This is not going to be brief. >> No. Skipping ahead. You >> said short meeting. Remember that? >> You jinxed us. Five minutes. Five minutes. Get the hook. Alexander, get the hook. So, back in the day,

there was a commemorative rock put on the Polyon Trail between Oxford Township and Oran just north of Indian Wood Road. And it had a dedication to Larry Oreck painted on. It's now down to an E and an O or an E and an I. That's the only thing that's still visible on this rock. Um, I did talk to Jimmy Johnson at Graphic Takeover and the plaque that we did for Justin Schilling's rock installed was just shy of $1,100. And I would like to see about in the future getting a plaque for that rock to commemor commemorate what Larry did for the trail. basically just the same thing that was there just in a brass plaque form installed on that rock. Um so it's about $1,100. >> What was our conversation window? >> And you said

when all the >> rich for Larry and >> pretty big monument. >> I think that you know maybe you might want to dedicate the rock to somebody else now. Maybe. >> Yeah. I mean, uh, >> it's it's >> you know, then also I said $1,100 for that. >> Yeah. So, >> how about the founding? >> We paid for that from that. That was >> I could be the profit. >> I could be the odd person in the group, but it's like the only Curtis. >> The Curtis Wright rock. >> Yeah. The garlic mustard pull rock of Curtis Wright. [laughter] >> Curtis loves the garlic mustard. He loves it. >> Oh, yeah. >> Yeah. He loves it. Every time I go on a rant, he he loves it. So, I'm just bringing that up. Um, you

know, it's about 1,100 bucks and I think Curtis said when all the projects in all the world are done, then we'll talk about it, but I brought it to your attention. Um, I will be out of town like the second week of February. So, Curtis is going to be in charge. >> So, >> yeah. So, he'll be he'll be in charge. He loves it when I'm out of town. ice storm going to be. So, >> um I did attend the Oakland County Parks and Recck 26 meeting. Um it was very informative. I don't know. We'll see what we'll we'll see what comes of it. They they uh did a lot of information gathering and um that was interesting and met a lot of good people. Sage from the DNR was there. So, we did a

lot of you know mingling and um that's it. So, easy peasy. See, less than five minutes and I'm done. Is [laughter] >> wow. I have a motion from vice chairfield and a second I think from councelor Ross was it on there to adjourn this meeting. All right. And the time is going to be 3:52. All in favor signify by saying I. >> I. Those opposed. Motion carries. is ajourned. Thank you everybody.
