can you sing the pledge please of the united states of america and to the republic for which it stands one nation under god indivisible with liberty and justice for all thank you would you please take the role certainly trust here no here very well yeah glorison here moon's here shane here thank you vice versa here good we're all here tonight excellent do you have any correspondence i don't have any no correspondence do we have any visitor statements no visitor statements even better you have you have nick's presentation we do okay well good evening everyone um it's my last presentation of the year so sad but last one best one am i right okay so starting off with student government it's a little more general um for this month because the first thing i want to
talk about was this year's induction so this was held i think last week and i think it's a really great ceremony and it's very symbolic just because it's really passing the torch on from this year's officers and student representatives on to next year's and a lot of parents come out just to watch the whole ceremony and i think that's really important because i feel like especially with my parents i don't always get to see what i do inside the school so when they do come out um they get to really see who all i'm working with for the entire year um and then the next thing i have is spring fling sorry yeah my phone so um spring fling is back this year we actually had it last year i think that was our first
in-person event that we had um so it'll be outside in the fields once again and we have volleyball kickball um cricket and ultimate frisbee this year um and presentations are going around each advisory missed it and shared that in the weekly email so all the mentors are just kind of debriefing their freshmen on what is supposed to happen and we have captains packets which kind of organize the whole team get the jerseys in order those are due april 27th and then the last thing for student government is the co-curricular fair so i think that's just a huge success every single year especially because we've been doing it consistently so we're really able to build upon our experiences each year and freshmen are truly the future of all student activities so it's really important to get
them excited and prepared when they come to stevenson okay next up we have anti-racism and inclusivity week so this is our second annual themed week and i think this year a really big improvement was having a bunch of equity solely equity driven clubs host all the events this year i think last year fmp and some other culture creating clubs held some events but this year it was exclusive to affinity groups and equity driven clubs so some of the events included breaking bread with allies so that was just a bunch of different cultural breads and lots of cultural discussions and that was hosted by diversity council and fire and then we had um there was a movie playing and then dr haney led a discussion and i think a lot of sports teams were involved especially
across they were rocking anti-racism and inclusivity week themed merch for a day um and then a lot of them are there having those discussions so it's really great to have sports involved with this week as well and then we also had a complimentary advisory activity so that was led by the counselors so they always come in on wednesday and we went through a little bingo activity that just went um that cover topics like civil rights activists and um representative symbols in the media okay the next thing is fmp so they kind of had their own section of the co-curricular fair so mentors could sign up to lead tours and tours were delivered in all different languages and just really inclusive to all the incoming freshman families and then they also had their mentor onboarding meeting
which i think is super important because fmp is truly a tradition-based program and everyone um every fmp each year has to uphold certain standards so really getting them prepared for next year is crucial to the club's success and then last slide um are the highlights so one of the most important events that just happened um a few weeks ago was day of dance so i think one key aspect of this day is that all levels of dance are included so dance one two three and four and then also kind of all the concert dances and melange and a bunch of other dance groups so um that happened periods one through eight and a bunch of my friends during their free periods went out to the pac to support their friends um and then the next
thing is the stevenson styler fashion show so two of my friends abby and izzy have been working on this for months i think that really just speaks to how enriching all of our fine arts classes are um and i think there were over 15 50 student design outfits that were on the runway and then this week we have earth week so there are a bunch of different events hosted by green team i think there's a vegan bake sale tomorrow and then there's also a tree planting activity after school on friday so that's super exciting and then there was also a tour of the greenhouse after school today um which i love the greenhouse miss o'connor my bow teacher last year during coven like let us have class up there all the time and then we
did a little lab up there so definitely love the greenhouse and then the next thing is the ap art show so a bunch of my friends who are in ap art have been working on their portfolios all year and i think that also goes for kind of their ap test so it's really great to have them displayed and i think all their hard work was definitely reflected in the amount of people that showed up during lunch periods and during their free periods to go watch all the displays um the last thing is just the picture on the left um stephen or spanish honor society hosted a salsa night and i think they're sponsored by um senora antiero who is my friend who was my freshman spanish teacher um and they just enjoyed some delicious salsa
and chips and then also danced on friday um and then the last slide drum roll we're going to boston college [Applause] i went to boston like what not this past weekend but last weekend and i like visited i was like this is where i'm at so definitely super exciting i was like very split going into it and then i just kind of knew once i visited what was the other choice northeastern so both in boston though yeah so i went to the admitted student state northeastern and then like left halfway through went to boston college and took commitment of photos and then that was that wow awesome wow very good congratulations we hope you do student government there too yes until absolutely thank you so much thank you guys so much for an amazing year
i can't believe it's over my last site visit for fmt tomorrow too so a little sentimental are you bringing your replacements yes i can come to the nick can you bring your replacement next month um yes uh i think i talked to dr eddie a little bit um and i know dr gergens going through um like applications and stuff so i'll definitely meet with the next representative over the next month um and then be here i'm not sure if i'll do the majority of the presentation but i'll definitely aid and all that exactly pass the torch thank you so much thank you have a great night all right and that brings us to um the next part of the meeting which is uh our ambassador awards which i assume is why everybody is here so
it's good to see all of you tonight um our ambassador award is an award given by the board of education to students who have achieved a significant milestone in their academic or co-curricular careers here at stevenson and tonight we have a number of students who scored a perfect score on the act which is a huge accomplishment so we can't be any more excited and proud to recognize those students this evening and to do that we have our director of curriculum instruction and assessment mr mark honestcheck and our board of education president mr frost so thank you take it away thank you so we had 17 perfect scores to present tonight that's it 17. [Music] so we're really proud to have a number of our students with us here this evening jonathan abram was unable to
make it but i'd like to introduce you to adida and [Applause] i don't know if you want to take it around okay [Applause] benjamin chen [Applause] expanded gold [Applause] thank you thank you lawrence [Applause] coleslaw [Applause] anish nadella [Applause] jasmine's son [Applause] oh there's nobody here i'm going to take one jasmine come on thanks vj [Applause] and leno lange [Applause] and william thompson just [Applause] yeah congratulations thank you thank you where do i stand here yeah could there be maybe one person take a picture of the whole group who do we look at good question give up already [Applause] and how many of you are seeing this not all of you right do you know your colleges yet yeah i'm going to come first me too they won't know what happened where else is somebody
going um [Laughter] well there was one student right here tonight who did take it twice which after you've gotten to 36 once you know take it again so well it's wonderful you guys are amazing and it's a big deal congratulations [Applause] thank you parents congratulations thank you i don't before wow yeah it's pretty nice they're pretty nice they're gonna start pulling restrictions on this just like university i don't need to worry about me [Music] how are you is mr jane on deck tonight yes sir jane is on deck tonight and so welcome to our curriculum team i'm sorry we had a lot of moving parts tonight so thank you for being patient with us but we're getting to uh the second item on our agenda this evening which is our curriculum team presentation and if
i understand correctly um the pandemic threw this team a curveball and you were supposed to present two years all right so as you're pulling that uh up i'll turn it over to mr jane and you can introduce your team how about that love to thank you so much for having us here tonight we this has been a long time in the making and uh one of the things that i'm really excited to be able to share with you all tonight is just their growth over the last two years how they've stuck with the program of learning as adults and then implementing good programs and interventions for their kids to adjust to not only how they were growing pre-pandemic pandemic and then back into the full classroom all those stages i think will come out in
their story tonight so i'm having introduced them to you we'll start with mary smagga mary smagga is here in her fifth year with us she's also the algebra 2 team leader along with jeff janners stephanie ross is here with us in her 11th year we have sydney hendricks serving as the team leader for this team and we have shakti shawn mugasandran who is also one of our alumni here so she is uh back home at stevenson in her fourth year and uh eric anderson is here in his ninth year as a teacher so thank you for having us thank you for coming all right so we want to start out by giving you stevenson's working definition of sel which can be seen dear right it's to engage students in the development of their social skills
and help them access emotional intelligences to better support their learning so as everyone knows social emotional learning is a huge part of success in the classroom so during our time with molly over the past two-ish years we've been able to explore the five castle competencies which are self-management self-awareness social awareness responsible decision-making and relationship skills you might be like why is there an arrow pointing to that it's because with our work we decided to dive deeper into developing relationship skills within our classroom because it's such an important concept especially because the mathematics classroom is a highly collaborative environment so as eric mentioned we actually started this work back in fall of 2019 so we are in a very unique position because we've been doing this for a while so here's a brief timeline but we'll
talk you through it as we go through our presentation bringing us from fall to 2019 up to right now so when we dove into our student voice survey data with molly during release days we noticed one thing that stuck out to us was classroom belonging so back in the fall of 2019 when we started this work only 64 of our students were responding favorably to feeling like they belonged in the classroom and to us that stood out and we wanted to know what does it actually mean to feel like you belong in a math classroom so we decided to dive into that so as we were diving into this classroom belonging we looked at all of the questions on the student voice survey under classroom belonging there are several but one that really stuck out
to us was how much do you matter to others in this class when we asked our students this question only 55 percent of students responded favorably but we know when adolescents have strong connections with adults and peers their academic engagement and performance is increased and we feel as though these strong connections with adults and peers are not possible if students do not feel as though they belong in the classroom or they matter to others in the classroom so we set out to establish a culture where students feel they are valued members of the classroom community and that was ultimately our goal that's been guiding our work up until today so as teachers we were able to define what classroom belonging meant for us but we really wanted to take the time to have our students
define it for us so we started off with giving our students a survey in class for them to be able to define for us what does it mean to belong in the classroom one of the questions we asked was in this class i feel like i matter when and the responses that we received where our students shared with us that they mattered when they were able to contribute their ideas with one another when they were working together when people were really listening to their voices when they were collaborating with one another and we wanted to continue to create those opportunities and change our instructional strategies so students could get to know one another and really encourage each other when they were working together in the classroom so as we received this data the next time
that we were doing this was march of 2020 and at that point things changed as we went fully remote and this quote that we found as we were resuming our work this year is that when school doors when schools closed their doors in march 2020 these connections went away as many so we really wanted to understand how classroom belonging changed from that time where we had started working with it and over those uh next couple years so in the spring of 2020 as things were remote we had 66 percent of students responded favorably in this area of classroom belonging however in the fall of 2020 when we were completely remote 55 percent of students responded favorably however through the course of the year we still saw positive growth and 61 of students responded favorably after
that time as some students were remote and some students remained remote in person and then this fall as we resumed this in person to begin sharing our work with you again 68 of students responded favorably as we returned to the classroom okay sorry can i test a quick question mike i have like pandemic brain like time has just kind of disappeared for me um so spring 2020 was that 66 was that after we went remote or before well the survey would have been before okay so kids took the survey probably weeks before yeah yeah yeah like literally a few weeks yeah yeah okay again my brain is a little fried from the pandemic god thank you so we knew returning to the class this fall when we were back in person it was going to
be critical for us to continue this work in helping students and giving students the opportunity to really build relationships um and so we did this by integrating some sel competencies around relationship skills into our mathematics curriculum um we did some complex complex tasks where students really had to rely on one another we did jigsaw instruction where students would become masters of certain topics and then they would bring that information back to a small group where they were seen as the master and could share and that really just allowed us to focus in on our building relationships skills given as mary said the mathematics classroom is so collaborative so we wanted to ensure that we made our matters explicit so we want to make sure that by doing these activities in our classroom that cindy mentioned
we were building relationships that would then result in our students having a sense of belonging so during this time we would coach our students on what it looked like how it felt what it sounded like to be an active team member and to build those relationships with their peers we would then debrief those tests so after the jigsaws and the complex tasks we would tell them why we did it or have them think like hey how did i help my team members there what could i have done differently which then we provided feedback as teachers and then peers gave each other feedback and we debriefed on how was i an effective team member and how did that make me feel within the classroom so after all of that work we are here in spring of
0242022 so this was actually just given this semester and 77 of our students responded favorably to classroom belonging which we attribute a lot to the work that we've done throughout not only this year but the past two years we know though that our work is not done we want to continue we've seen the relationships bloom so much that we want to continue that work moving forward so there's the castle competencies that mary talked about and we dove into what makes successful relationships and through the search institute they actually have a framework that's based off of what does it mean to have successful relationships and it focuses on those five criteria so our plan moving forward is to make sure that we're still providing those opportunities for students to reflect and give each other feedback and
also having more interdependence work and that's it we want to thank you so much for listening and having us here a little delayed but we're excited what questions can we answer for you oh sorry what i might be a dinosaur in this but math you know back in the day was sit down don't look at anybody don't talk to anybody can you give me a sense of how you collect you're talking a lot about collaboration so i guess i'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around how in a geometry class in particular how do you collaborate like what kinds of activities do you do how do you do that yeah in the geometry classroom yeah so one of the tasks we talk about is tasks without information where it really means they're not given
the complete amount of information one idea that we came up with this year is students when they look at a problem they were missing one detail to solve the problem but if they interacted with another peer at their table they would find out oh you have one other piece of information different than i do and then they'd be like wait oh yeah you have something else too and then they'd start to see if they were working together they'd be rewarded with more information than if they were just isolated and that was just one example of how we incorporated collaboration inside of our instructions perfect thank you that was actually my question but just a little different than mrs noah said it was you know you want to be you're striving for a collaborative but when
i went to i'm asking the same question when i went to school if we wanted to learn geometry or trig whatever it was there was a here's what you're trying to learn and do you get i don't know what the jigsaw puzzle would have to do with what i was trying to learn i understand the collaborative nature of the jigsaws or of any puzzle but it's just unclear to me how when you're tasked to understand i it's just unclear to me with something like math that math never was in my world and i understand how in a collaborative environment you can learn more you know merv roberts here used to always say teaching was the best form of learning and uh and i drank the kool-aid i i agreed but i just don't see it
in math am i missing the boat so i would say one of the things we call it a jigsaw instruction activity it's not actually a jigsaw puzzle i didn't know but i meant because i was like maybe i should have it but i think it's more like understanding that you're not the expert all the time and it's okay to meet other people so we create environments or tasks where students might feel like i've got this or they might not and providing the opportunity in that spirit yeah if i'm sitting here and i want to ask johnny or jane whoever is sitting next to me how do i do that is that okay to do yeah yeah yeah and i think that's exactly like one of the things that uh is a joy as i walk
into classrooms throughout the year is the happy noise in math classrooms yeah right that's all i feel good but i mean well but i think the noise the noise that you're hearing is kids conjecturing they're asking like could this be possible they're going through hypotheses like when would this be possible so all of those things about wondering about what is true and not true in these in these cases that they're presented in design they have to really wrestle with what they've learned in an unseen and unfamiliar context to make new learning happen okay one last question i understand what you're saying and it's it sounds exciting and it's wonderful the thing but it could not be managed is that process manageable for a teacher yeah or teacher yeah i think a lot of it goes
back to the norms that you establish in your classroom um i think it's it's uncomfortable certainly at first for students and for teachers because there's not you kind of have to give up some control um but at the same time you're giving the students the control so there is still control in your classroom you've just delegated that responsibility to the students and it starts out very specific i have to tell you exactly when to talk and how long to talk but at this point in the year i say you are the captain and they know exactly what that means and and that helps helps us manage these tasks they're responsive within those guidelines so great i am not a math expert um however one of the things i do know is that what um amy
and dave are describing or wondering really does represent kind of the big split in mathematics education in the early 90s mid 90s right and to this division's credit you know the stevenson mathematics division was really on the forefront dave of taking on that idea of collaborative learning and mathematics so that it wasn't just an isolated activity kind of the drilling skill approach but stevenson was one of the places um that really kind of led the way nationally with other schools to really think differently about mathematics teaching and learning and make it a more collaborative experience why why would other subject areas be collaborative in nature where we know learning is a social social experience and not mathematics and in fairness i mean that is still kind of a debate that's raging 25 years later even
when the data clearly shows that the teaching and learning the mathematical tasks and practices that you guys are teaching and you guys are all nctm followers right like i mean we're doing all that work there's still debate out there about you know how should we be teaching math and so i i give this group a lot of credit because i do too it would be very easy yeah it would be very easy to kind of fall back onto old practices but i don't i don't want to speak for you but i can't imagine we would ever go backwards right no no yeah it seems so it's so great that this group in particular your no is interesting are you really that solid is this are you convinced because this is your this is your baby
you've got your arms around something is this better than it was yesterday absolutely 100 i will tell you that having a previous life before education and knowing where our kids are headed into in terms of the marketplace albeit that was 25 years ago but knowing what industry would expect of learners their ability to help kids manage social skills demands to manage interrelationship skills to manage even conflict in thought those are strategies and skills that is priming of the math class to learn the math but also to engage as learners and then to carry it out into the workplace i i'm convinced that the work of this group work with the division and how we're engaging kids in mathematics is the right way all right i have two questions i say let's go get a beer
i have two questions um i mean obviously it seems intuitive that what you're doing would impact the belonging and the questions the castle competencies that you're talking about but how do you actually know you don't have a control group so how is it that you test and know what it is that it is this jigsaw it is as collaborative that is impacting the belonging and i'm asking not only just how do you know but things that you know specifically which tasks are causing it to occur it would then i assume help you [Music] make that evolve and have what else you focus on or emphasize um i mean aside from feeling good and intuitively thinking it's got to be helping is there is there any way of measuring this so i think one of the
things that i go back to because i i do think like we have a whole different group of students each year so when we look i forget where it was eric slide there we go when we look here like we think about these two students are the same students or from fall of 2020 or sorry no spring of 2021 to fall no that's not right either it was my slide yeah just kidding this one yay okay so fall to spring is the same student so although we can't look too much at the whole picture we have incorporated things and we just ask constantly for student feedback so giving students a voice i think is one of the strengths of the what we chose to do because we're constantly talking to our kids getting feedback just
seeing how things are going in general what can we improve on stuff like that in my second clip thank you my second question is directly for am i pronouncing it correctly exactly yeah so you're a you're an alum uh alumnus having grown up in this process do you bring a different perspective do you see how this is uh you having any different reaction to this than others that's a really good question i was actually gonna talk when dressing was talking about how like in this future industry like our students at stevenson high school like when they walk out and they're understanding like how to collaborate and they're understanding how to critically think like i would say like i was a student not too long ago and i walked out having those same thoughts and being
able to like walk into university or walk into a collaborative nature or just like in a like college group that you have like how do you interact and how do you talk to those people and then how do you um you know step up be the leader or understand how to like be like okay now it's your turn now it's my turn you know those are the things that i even learned in mr jane's classroom because he was my teacher um so yeah so i think that um it does make such a big difference and i think taking the time to you know have the students understand why it is important because sometimes they don't see it in a math classroom they're like oh like it's it's my my problem right now i'm gonna do
it right now and i want to get it right right but like really like it should be like i have four people around me like how can i make sure everyone's here and everyone's learning together and then when i do share i'm also learning right so yeah it definitely does matter so you do think that our students are graduating learning critical thinking skills yeah 100 and this class is one of the greatest classes for them to be able to learn those people what did you ask that i she was i found what she's saying fascinating and important and one of the things that we talk about often that we give lip service to is critical thinking skills and so i was curious if she thinks we're truly because this is going to come after my
graduation speech we're truly teaching critical thinking in our school yeah i would say like not only with the mathematics critical thinking but also like just building relationship like what does it mean to be like a social member of a community on both of those critical thinking skills the problem is she's so shy you know it doesn't count she knows it's also i mean part of the the reality is too like when when kids step out of college into the real world what is the expectation for how they're going to work are they expected to work alone in isolation or are they expected to work in collaboration in groups and the answer is of course they're going to be expected to collaborate with others so why not you know learn how to collaborate in that way
now so that it's not an on-the-job you know experience you know so i i just think it's great what you guys are doing [Applause] thank you thank you for your support thanks for having us thank you i got the kool-aid right here all right so moving right along uh the next item the agenda is uh approval of our uh three year calendars for the 23 24 24 25 25 26 school year and a revised calendar for the 2022-2023 school year can i have a motion so moved okay and um just couple comments uh the first is um we are we are making a change to next year's calendar again uh and it is with apologies that we do so carol will get this and jamie will get this up on the website as soon as
possible but we did um get a lot of feedback and a lot of information this year it seems like during the pandemic years uh a lot more schools began taking the friday before thanksgiving i'm sorry wednesday the wednesday before thanksgiving off in the past some did some didn't i think in the pandemic years more and more schools chose to take that wednesday off this year we did not and we did get a lot of feedback that nearly every other school in lake county in the area did and that put a lot of our faculty and staff in a tough position of daycare and things like that so we do want to make a revision to next year's calendar take that wednesday before thanksgiving off and in order to keep everything at the required number of
days we'll just push the last student attendance day to friday may 26th which is our graduation day however we've had this happen in the past and we will move um you know all the events up for our seniors by about a day so they can get practice in and do all the things they need to do to be able to get to the seer center and graduate on time so that is for next year's calendar and then as far as our three-year calendars are concerned we are following pretty much the same model as we have in the past trying to keep our calendars as consistent as we can with our three meter districts so we work on these with 102 103 district 96 and for the most part we try to align the start of
the school year the breaks and you know kind of the the days off um throughout the year um so we're bringing that tonight to you for your approval those two different calendar groups any questions for dr twaddle thank you for finally taking a day off at thanksgiving when my kids graduate i appreciate it sorry i couldn't resist okay would you please uh pull the board certainly no i oh well i had a question go ahead oh i was just gonna ask what did we do about the religious holidays oh the not the not school days yeah so we're that one is still kind of out there as a conundrum um we still are have two-thirds of our community has those days as non-school days um so you know we try to stay aligned with with
our three feeders um so district 96 district 102 still also have those days off so for this next cycle you know we still have those as non-school days and then we're going to try to see you know if we can get the whole you know consortium aligned um because right now um they're still taking those days off as well and i i think the other eric and i have talked about it as well there's still the combination of the the teachers they're still a large percentage of the students who would be out in those days it would be out in those days or that we anticipate would be um but it's kind of a calendar to continue that when he could the community is definitely changing and it's an inexact science to determine you know
what exactly is the number of folks who would be out there's a question you can't necessarily ask but we have a fairly good idea and in the meantime it would create some havoc not being on the same schedule as our feeder schools i know 103 where you're at it's in a little bit different boat yeah so you know it was different for both kids yeah right so oh right exactly yeah and so again with maybe even larger group of people it would be you know different as well so our hope is that if we're going to make any changes with those three days that that would be a consortium decision so we're trying to work through that but thank you for asking that's a good question so i'll call your name again arguable bye courson
wounds i shang hi thank you weisberg all right frost carries a hundred percent so the next item is uh sorry is our letters of intent it's a first reading um and so we'll bring this back uh in may for a fuller uh summary um but in the meantime feel free to read through the attachment um and if you have any questions um just let mark uh know or myself and we'll be happy to answer those for you uh the document that you see here will be slimmed down quite a bit this is just our current brainstorming uh with the administrative team we wanted to give you a chance to produce through that if you are interested if you're not you're going to get a slimmed down version at the may board meeting okay you'll see
personnel items uh there as well um the approval of the human resources report will be in the consent agenda and then that brings us to the business section and sean i only have one item one question about the private placement coordinator is that a new position or are we just replacing um it is [Music] the question was about our private placement coordinator um it is a kind of a new position um the old position was 10 months um but it has it really it needs to be a 12 month because it's it's a reshaping existed it's just in a different way shape or form okay right the responsibilities have just grown too much so okay that's a good question uh and that brings us to approval of door access panels yep so i only have
one item tonight and i thought everybody was here for that today i'll leave you stop okay sorry um the uh as you know uh back in 2012 um we began uh the process of uh implementing a door access system to better provide safety and security for our building it also uh helped eliminate the need for keys many keys the door access system has helped us not only provide a safe and secure environment for students and staff but it's also been able to help us with investigative procedures as it tracks people going in and out of doors when they swipe in and out of certain areas or try to get into certain areas unfortunately uh like all technology uh it it becomes outdated and gets its end of useful life um these are the door access
panels specifically um fall into that category the typical life span on these is about five to seven years so we're a little bit overdue which is good what complicates them this time is that the existing panels are actually obsolete um so as they're failing them as they're failing we are finding we're trying to find ways to support those systems right now we've been able to support them but we are in need of replacing them and upgrading them to something that isn't obsolete that has more parts available on the ability to swap in and out um it is not a cheap um thing but it is a necessary thing um the cost to replace these panels is 385 184.45 um this includes not only the panels themselves but the installation the programming that goes along with
this one thing that's nice about the new panels is that they allow us the ability to connect more doors to each panel and this time the doors can be connected both wirelessly or as a hardwired door so our external doors are all hardwired but our internal doors are all wireless how many panels are there sean uh 87 i believe 10 to 15 20 doors panel correct yeah and so placing them all at the same time correct this is one of those because of the need we're gonna save um you know they siemens will we'll take a couple um for parts as we go through um to kind of you know this summer yep correct so um tonight we are in fact asking the board of education to approve the door access panels that connect the
door modules to the software program at a cost not to exceed three hundred eighty-five thousand one hundred eighty four dollars and forty five cents a promotion please tell moved call second i have a question sure what is the door pin uh so the door panels think of it as like an electrical box uh is that the thing we swipe on that is the actual door lock itself yes so those door locks actually connect back to a a panel like an electrical panel that has the um modules that kind of talk about doing these no no no the doors themselves those blocks correct yeah those doors the locks themselves are fine it's the panels connected you got it's intermediary between that and the software so the hip bone is connected to the joint where is that
go next uh then it goes so then it goes from that to the um see cure software package which is what we program every door and every user so every user has their own access every door has its own access and we use that's a secure product from siemens in a software house which what is this and have we've been happy with the way our door panel system has worked actually the the door access panel has been lights out since day one it's great it has been thankfully we've never actually had to use it in a large setting like a lockdown but we do have the ability to go in to the secure software and lock all the doors so when we had the demonstration several months ago we were able to lock all the
doors um and um all the exterior doors in the matter of two seconds there's also one other thing to to keep in mind it's important that these systems stay upgraded correct because of the just for cyber security reasons as the devices get more sophisticated they become more secure in themselves so they don't end up getting hacked when certain vulnerabilities are discovered in components that are used to actually build these systems so staying current is a really important thing to do that's a great point gary so is is this i didn't realize and this is my own fault when we approved the doors which i know was a really significant expense yeah three million dollars yeah yeah um so because this is a newer technology is this also then going to be replaced in another all
technology has a lifespan i think the one thing that um we'll make sure that we're on top of is that we can smooth this out so that it's not an all or nothing thing um we were the end of the impression that the two panels the ones that we currently have in these newer ones couldn't cohabitate on the same system um and that's not true they actually can so as we move forward we'll probably massage the cycle a little bit so it's not a hit all at once and that we can take care of some of the panels as we go um hopefully as you know i would like to say as technology improves the lifespan um gets longer but um i'm not sure that's a true statement i don't think quite and i think
that's which will thank you two more sure three questions first is was this budget for yes second um is this going to be done this summer yes and then third how does this is this cost already baked into the new edition every time we do any kind of addition renovations it usually requires a new panel and we build that into the cost of every door having a door lock a panel so that's already paid for absolutely actually i have four questions then so there are still what's that there are still a number of doors that i've spotted recently that don't actually have the door locked can we so patty pierce and her team have identified the doors that don't require because i don't know where my ak so yeah but you don't need to go
to any of the doors that don't have i know but i do think they'll take us on them we should just finish it off yes i think in some it makes sense um there i think still a couple that um really would only be germane to sodaxo and so i think the question is is the is the cost worth it yeah okay um but we're evaluating we'll get a report all right thank you that's it okay could you uh please pull the board certainly i will i where is it hi moon's eyes shang hi thank you voice for all right first hi no aye motion carries seven to nothing okay and then in may uh we will be recommending the district purchase a treasurer's bond for the position of district treasurer our very own mr
sean carney [Laughter] in the past the bond has cost a thousand dollars per million uh more information will be coming up uh in the may mid meeting memo and board book and as usual sean don't you forget it that's we know where you live so um that will be coming up in may uh and then ihsa membership is in the consent agenda and the foia requests i read those fire requests they have not slowed no i know that what do these people want to do with this information sometimes it's sometimes they'll tell me they don't by law have to tell me usually it's often it's tied to uh a website that they're a part of and collecting data and sharing that data um transportation bid is just purely informational because they're in the industry they
want to know what um what contracts are settling for that kind of stuff um but i would say often it's it's related to something that they're involved with whether it be a non-profit they're in that business and they're just curious what other people are doing but they do seem to be increasing more frequently okay can i have a motion to approve the consent agenda second any questions for eric on the consent agenda would you please pull the board of course all right wounds i shang hi weisberg all right frost no aye aye well hi carrie seven or nothing okay and that brings us to the information report just a couple quick items and then we're happy to hear about anything that you guys would like to talk about uh the first is that we are
hoping um to have a very brief uh organizational meeting on tuesday may 10th at 7 30 um and normally we would do this at our may board meeting but um as we may have mentioned before the may board meeting is going to be a little bit hectic uh it's going to be in the west auditorium um whatever that may date is the 16th may 16th may 16th and we're going to be uh handing out passing out over a hundred ambassador awards so um come prepared with your hand sanitizer um it's gonna be a long night um but it should be really exciting we have i think four or five different groups at one state championships over 100 kids it's gonna be really cool um so it just might be a little bit clunky to do
the reorganizational meeting at the beginning of that meeting so can we count on at least four people to be in person that day one two three four gary okay maybe all right so all right so at least four and anybody else can dial in uh virtually that would be great uh and then also just wanted to remind folks that uh graduation is on friday uh may 27th at the sears center this year only one ceremony um so very excited about that uh not two ceremonies uh and then prior to that that week on tuesday may 24th we won't have the athletes when you say two ceremonies well last year we had two ceremonies at the seer center remember please put the class in but what about the we do we also have let's do this
uh if if we if we're fortunate enough to need one okay it depends that we don't know yet they got to win a state championship so okay or or compete yeah um but we would love to see as many of you uh who can be here on tuesday may 24th for our annual meeting to review administrative team members performance the meeting will begin at 5 30 in the district office and last to approximately 2 a.m [Music] i'm sorry did i say that i meant i bet it would just be a couple hours um and our annual um menu of yen yen's uh will be on the offering so hopefully you can make that as well and then we do have a um we do have a document there that has important dates for the spring
and summer this year um these are events that you know all may none must some should attend uh particularly our retirement 25-year and ten year celebration on may 19th at the marriott lincolnshire we've been on a coveted pause for the past um couple of years we're starting to get the covid cobwebs out and the first opportunity to really celebrate uh together is going to be may 19th so we're looking forward to seeing as many of you there as you can and there's some other dates in there you're at all interested um you can come and participate in and then um june 6th sean is the uh foundation golf outing it is um and if any of you would like to play in that um you're more than welcome so yes let me know where did
you say the next board meeting is going to be the next place may 10th yeah the 15-minute meeting is right here so where do you want to be that's going to be may 16th where is that going to be the west side of troy just me the patriot lobby patriot yeah all right that's all i have anybody else have any anybody been to meetings any committees they want to share terry the elc is still going strong the elc is still going strong they have a long-term release on what's known as the elc west which is the building next door which enhances our space for our transition students and the little factory that they're on making stationery and candles and it's given us more room and we have had inquiries from several other school districts could
they send their transition students to us and there has to be a meeting with uh meegan and and the superintendents on what we're going to charge other districts to educate their transition students but it's becoming i want i don't want to say a profit center it isn't really a private center but it's becoming something that is is becoming well known in the community a thought of highly and certainly a need so i'm really proud that we're part of that that's great thank you eric this is faith um i have some news to share with everyone okay well as you know i work at aeon a professional service company that provides solutions to many institutional investors such as pension funds endowment foundations on global basis so as an internal promotion i'm recently appointed to be the
head of wild solutions of aeon in china so i'll be responsible to grow eons business in wealth solutions in china and i'm very excited about this career opportunity thank you well however i'm very sad that i will not be able to serve on this board as this job requires me to relocate to shanghai china to serve on the board obviously i need to be a resident of the school district and so i i am scheduled to move to shanghai possibly in july around july or latest in august so to give the board some time for the transition and find the right uh replacement um i'm planning to resign from my board position in the coming weeks wow that is big news congratulations congratulations that's awesome uh well thank you it's it's good and bad and
at this point i it's really mixed feeling i really wish i could have served the board much longer um but it's it's a wonderful career opportunity and it's really hard to bypass um so i thought i'd like to share this news with you as soon as possible and so to be fair to have enough time to find a replacement and then um i as i recollect the journey since i joined the board in august 2020 has been really it has really been an eventful and extraordinary journey and i have to say i'm really honored to have the opportunity to win the trust of many residents in the school district and serve on this board this board is really extraordinary to lead stevenson through the pandemic probably one of the most challenging times in its history
i've personally participated and witnessed many critical decisions the board has made for the best interest of the majority of students i'm really happy to say we're happy to normal and celebrate students activities achievements and also hear the presentation of all the curriculum teams on each meetings and i'm really proud of this board i just want to thank this board as a school district resident and also as a fellow board member i also want to take this opportunity to thank the administrative team faculty and staff i know you all work very hard on daily basis to make students in a better school it's really a pity that i can't finish the term and push for further progress of many initiatives that that are critical in my view for students and the residents there's still much to
be done to help guard students mental health to help students develop a more diversified view of the world through an enriched curriculum but i'm sure the rest of the board members and my successor will hold on to the core vision of the stevenson continues a great job and make all efforts for the success of every student so again thank you all for the opportunity working on the board i wish stevenson all the success and um hopefully uh i will see you next time before sometime in may awesome congratulations we wish you thank you eric we wish you all the best faith yeah yeah it's been too short a time but we've enjoyed your participation and contributions to the board and we'll talk more before you leave and faye just to be clear when mark and
i come and visit um mark you would prefer like a like a view of you know like mark and i we will only be there for a few weeks really okay shanghai is beautiful i know thank you yeah i give you the best tour one of the most exciting cities in the world that's very cool well very happy for you thank you thank you we will miss you faye thank you harry okay hey faye can you hear me sure dave tell him though [Music] okay anything else uh can i hear should i share yeah um so i have similar news as face um i i don't know if i can follow that speech of hers but i want to echo everything she's saying um but i took up a a career opportunity about six months
ago which is based in north carolina and um i've been working remote as the vp of finance global cfo for the wrangler jeans brand and i've been wearing a lot of wrangler i have a lot of jeans in my closet now but with return to office plans being announced starting next week i will be traveling there more often almost every week or every other week so we were planning on moving but the housing market is so crazy that we can't really find a house on time to build and actually buy one because things are selling on the same day above asking cash um so we've decided to um to do the travel thing for a year before we you know we can find a house while i'm still there and so on and so forth
so excited about the opportunity obviously um you know sad to leave um we've been in this community for 10 years um and seen my kids you know one was three one was seven see them grow through the feeder districts and really become confident young adults teenagers with one going off to college in in a few months so it's it's definitely bittersweet a lot of friendships that you know we've developed my friends are very happy that we can't find a house and we you know for another year even though in transition um and uh definitely uh being on the board has been a very enriching experience i've learned from each of the board members who bring such diverse skill sets you know um diverse points of views and skill sets um and we've you know like
faye said it's been it's been unusual everything steve said was not gonna happen happened of course he could not have predicted kermit so it was it was crazy times um but you know when when someone goes through difficult times like this board did with uh and the administrative team did and the students and the community that's when you can really tell what the strength of um you know you can really see the strength of the community and the board and how um how people come through those difficulties with flying colors and i feel like the board the administration the teachers the students um the community everyone you know in spite of having diverse points of views everyone came together for the best of the school and the students um for you know to keep our
vision alive of success for every student so i think that's that's what's most important and it's been so nice to see today people come start getting these awards again uh having all these meetings in person so it will definitely be bittersweet and in a few weeks you know i'll probably attend my resignation as well because i don't think i can do the travel um on a weekly bi-weekly basis and do justice to what you know the time that i need to devote on the board so so that's a little bit of announcement from me congratulations thank you and thank you as well and as i told faye we miss you we appreciate the contributions that you've made and uh wish you the best because obviously this is a great opportunity and hina mark and i
would prefer hey no i'm just kidding i'll take the couch you'll take the couch this time all right we'll come and visit we'll come in something on the outer banks you know that would be great well it's certainly our loss but i wish you both all the best it's been amazing to get to know you you're amazing women and you've brought a lot to stevenson to this board to the community and um i hope that we will all stay in touch [Music] oh wow okay um i hope that's it reservations yeah can i have a motion to adjourn please so moved second all in favor hi okay
