002uh you're on board with the two of us right yes yes thank you uh well first and foremost i'd like to again welcome all of our retirees who are here this evening and congratulate them and wish them the best in their future endeavors um always such a bitter sweet time of year uh one that brings me great jealousy to watch and hear about all their future plans and retirements and so uh we're very happy to to acknowledge them combined years of service we have over 263 years of service that is retiring from the district this year and so we so much appreciate all the service to the community is in the number of years that they've been here and certainly all that they've done so we have eight of our retirees that were able to

003make it this evening and so i'd like to acknowledge them individually and ask them to make their way up we have a certificate of some flowers for you uh first is peggy chisholm who worked in our business office and accounts fable she has been an oxford employee since 2000 and actually been enjoying retirement for a few months now so congratulations [Music] [Applause] next is uh julie lamont and julie plumatti has been working at oba as a testing coordinator and she has been with the district for almost two years so congratulations julia next is uh tony laurio uh tony has been a bus driver in our transportation department and he has been with oxford for over 15 years [Applause] she has been with the district for over 22 years [Applause] next is maria magley who is

004a bus driver transportation department has been with oxford schools for over 36 years that's my bus driver right there [Applause] next is gina is an uh language arts teacher at oxford high school has been with the district for almost 21 years [Applause] appreciate that thank you so much next is lisa stars and lisa is a bus driver with the transportation department and has been with the district for almost 16 years [Applause] our last uh certainly not the least protector to recognize this evening is lisa sullivan uh who has been working at nova community partners coordinator and she has been with the district for almost 6 years all right congratulations to all of our retirees in case you're wondering if you get bored in the next couple weeks and we'll always get a place for you

005you can always come back congratulations thank you thank you um due to the tragedy in texas uh a couple people didn't get a chance to present and so mr wolf we're bringing you back today thank you very much thank you this time right now it's not going to be correct it's not for you okay i just wanted to appreciate the board of our student activities and projects that take place recently at the school our students held the second courtyard camp uh saturday june 4th we had approximately 40 to 40 students complete our first courtyard cleanup back on sunday may 1st and about 25 or so students total is the most recent fees we've had a ton of helpful support from staff members in the building who've assisted with our students that includes jessica robbins lauren

006josinski and katie goetz engaging quite a few months a year meeting with students after school to help them brainstorm those staff members have carved out a lot of time after school uh just meeting with students helping them brainstorm uh sorting out some of their plans uh many of which you know are going to take additional time because they're great plans that involve working with outside folks outside of the district to help create some plans to honor our students we've had so far students come up with and connect with outsiders to come branches down from trees to make space and room in our courtyards about cut down trees that weren't healthy and we're going to make it in the realization of if we want to have somebody's front or students in the courtyard well we really

007have to clean it up first and create some space clear landscape to be able to pull off some of the ideas that they're still working on right now and our students have no doubt committed to that work for quite a few months now everything from removing mulch removing mulch uh embroidered trim uh old plants pulling weeds i mean they really rolled their sleeves up gotten dirty out there and put in a lot of hard work um and again the courtyard cleanup is really just to set the stage for the additional ideas they have we know there's going to be more freedom future ideas to do in the future and some ideas right now they have are student murals some of the walls out of the courtyards additional landscaping mulching potential flower garden potential rock garden

008benches picnic tables curricula and some other ideas so there's some substantial work that they're looking to put in first though in these two courtyard cleanups starting with clearing the space out to make room for that outside the main entrance in the north side of the building you may have noticed four cherry blossom trees were planted on saturday june 4th same day as our second courtyard cleanup uh and those were placed uh in and on campus to honor our four students who were taken from us uh many students student groups have brainstormed this idea uh as far back as january hey let's plant some trees to hire on our students and that quickly became a pretty popular idea this winter and spring and some of these student group meetings that took place one student our fourth

009year osec senior ryan patterson chose to turn this idea into a spotsec capstone project and ryan's detailed proposal took shape later this spring with the help from matt camparone of cockrite lawn care and juan landscaping matt volunteered his time his staff his equipment on that saturday the plants are afforded cherry blossom trees and to lay down the beautiful landscaping as well matt was able to graciously receive the trees as a donation from david solviere of the landscape source which is quite generous of him and matt also partnered with don nelson from jan's steel company he donated the impressive sign right out front that includes a quote ryan patterson found on other student groups adored we also have noah st juliana younger brother hannah who is wrapping up and has completed a piece of artwork that

010he'd like to place potentially out in our courtyards and it's a beautifully painted um very large wooden flower that is to honor his older sister it has the words written on flower petals leris by lifting others and noah is a fifth grader at obs and this project was part of his fifth grade exhibition project uh so jeff brown worked with him and some other staff members at uh oem were excited to get that and put it up at a spot that he feels good about and our students also like we also have a large about eight by ten foot banner that we received from jostens and that's the company that we work through for all of our senior graduation items including our cap and gown rings uh things like that and this batter is going

011to be coming this summer and the main gym is our ian smith gymnasium it has a large o on it with four hearts inside to honor our four students and it includes our four students names at the bottom of that large banner we received it several weeks ago there was an adjustment that needed to take place on the banner he sends it back i mean they quickly uh made a correction to that error and sent it back so we're excited to get that hung up uh in our new gym uh as we got some events that will be coming in pretty soon here before too long this fall and last but not least we're working on recreating part of what's currently our restorative practice room uh near our main hallway for kids that have access

012to as an option location for students who want to come and honor the lives of our four students that we lost students will be able to hang pictures and other symbols that represent our students and we'll also have staff nearby for any support they may need when choosing to come down and visit this location this was a request our students had and we knew that as we'd be creating additional spaces for uh some other staff members we're bringing into the building such as our recovery coordinator that we knew we'd have the ability most likely to repurpose this space and make it available for what our students were hoping for so there's more on the way that's just an update of some things recently and some things coming up in the near future thank you any

013comments or questions from the board yes heather so um so just kind of going down to the clean up on in the courtyard which courtyard are you talking about senior courtyard that kind of this is going to be going on actually our north is we refer to it as our north and south courtyard there's a larger spaces that students use more frequently to come from west i feel like this is going to be evolving a bit of a slow start getting them cleaned up i mean obviously they're waiting for the weather and spring to come and stuff and yeah it sounds like they had a good cleanup crew in march and then another one in june um i know we can't do a whole lot over the summer because everybody's gone but like if you

014had to say when you thought it was going to start to come to fruition and like look like something what would you say i'd anticipate this fall um some of those items require us to work with different companies you know using things such as picnic tables or pergola build and students have always started that work we know we were getting some help to lay a flower bed and garden we already have someone who's come in looked at the area and will be returning here this summer in late june uh to potentially start building that and get some some student help so and the murals you were talking about will you know the integrity of what was painted yeah yeah we we had student groups uh who began meeting um you know around late january uh

015groups of students who were close with this student who are part of that club activity program uh of our four students and really the challenge was uh pulling those great ideas out listening and then eventually bringing those students together because a lot of them had similar ideas um and that took some time and then from there what are we able able to actually pull off in a reasonable timeline the ideas are marvelous and far better than any of the adults in the building could have generated but being able to map out what can we do in the time of fashion and what are our top four or five ideas that we can reasonably pull off and that that's a few once uh getting the students together okay so very student-centered i guess that's another concern

016that the students are getting a chance to be her and be involved and yeah our staff is really just there to help organize the gathering to be present see what helps they can provide the students so it's it's almost entirely student-run generated another individual that was going to scare last week but didn't need some introduction but unless you hear this i first want to thank you for the opportunity to address the board tonight i'm speaking in my roles as the actual education association president as a parent as a community member and as a teacher there are a few things i want to address this evening first i have not had the opportunity to thank the board for their support on the new oea contract that was settled and voted on in april our goal in

017this negotiation process was to bring forward an agreement and focused on the recruitment and retention of teachers and i think we took important steps to accomplish our goal with what we call being agreed to so thank you for showing support for our teachers and certified chapter group of contract and thank you to central office team in working with the oia to negotiate that i next want to talk about concerns that i have with recent comments that have been made to the board during unscheduled audience participation specifically some parents and community members have made comments regarding several controversial issues and have used blanket statements referring to teachers during those conferences for example teachers feel this or teachers think that or teachers want this or they want that this has been upsetting to some of our staff

018even those who may agree with some of the statements that have been made and certainly those who disagree with those same statements my role as oea president is to be a spokesperson for teachers issues and right now i don't even feel comfortable or knowledgeable enough to make blanket statements about our teaching staff and what they think of you why is that because there are over 300 teachers in the district and i would have to guess that there are over 300 different places where our staff turn is on the emotional and healing spectrum and over 300 opinions of what each staff member needs or wants and those feelings just get more pronounced when you look at the high school staff i would not presume to try and speak for everyone at this point and i certainly

019think that i have more access to teachers and their feelings and opinions than anyone that i've seen addressed before why is this bothersome teachers because it's putting words into our mouths and assigning thoughts and feelings to us that we may not all share yet it's being made to sound like we all feel the same way i'm not saying that those who have addressed the lord have not spoken with teachers i'm sure they have but there's a significant difference from saying the teachers that i have spoken to feel a certain way versus making a blanket statement about how teachers feel it is a distinction that teachers that i have spoken with are concerned has not been made knowing that the difference would certainly change the tone and tenor of comments have been made before as a

020parent i can say with certainty that this is also true of students it has been consistently implied either indirectly or in some cases directly that all students feel a certain way this is simply not the case again i will not pretend to speak for all students just point out that it's important that people understand that blanket statements do not always represent everyone and sometimes only represent a small minority of people so i would ask the community to please be mindful of this when they speak and understand that it is hurtful and damaging when you put words into our staff and students mouths i also want to say that as a community member i was embarrassed and appalled by some of the comments that were made about two of our staff members at a board meeting

021toward the end of may one staff member was attacked before without both sides of the story being heard the speaker played vocal judgment jury working with information that i assume they've seen on tv or read in the newspaper the other staff member was accused by the speaker of using the tragedy to further his own career which was beyond summit journal again using what i assume is information from the news to suspend the narrative that fit first story and mind you that these are two people that i understand went into the building during an active shooting to help save our students i shared your frustration that the district has been unable to provide information about everything that happened because of the legal proceedings and i look forward to all of us learning what happened when appropriate

022but does anyone think that these types of attacks and people that are doing the absolute best they can for our students in school every day will be beneficial to our healing is this the type of example we should be setting for our students i have known these two individuals for years they have dedicated their careers to serve and love the students of oxford and while they like the rest of us are trying to heal they are subjected to personal attacks in a public setting that are completely uncalled for we as a community need to be better and remember that we are stronger together and that comments like these only serve to bias and impact our ability to heal i also want to take a moment to thank you all as board members i know several

023of you personally and gladly supported your fantasy to be on the board you ran for and serve not to stroke your own ego but to do the best you can for our students and communities and i have spoken with all of you since the tragedy of november 30th and i know that that goal is what continues to motivate you none of you could have ever predicted that the worst thing that can happen to a school would happen while you were on board and it would come on the heels of a global pandemic my hope is that our communities can show grace and understanding as all of us continue to navigate this tragedy and that all remember that you are having many opinions and perspectives thrown at you from multiple sources when trying to make decisions

024that in your worst nine years you never thought you'd have to make finally immediately following the shooting i was in contact with staff from both newtown connecticut sandy hook and parkland florida the stoneman douglas i was warned that there would be issues in people that would try to divide our community it is my hope that we can break the trend of division and work together to deal we are hurting as a school the students and the staff as a district and as a community and i do not call anyone for wanting information be it information on what happened or information on how to prevent this from happening you here in other schools and i feel strongly that our community has a right to speak their mind and i respect that guy but every time the

025discourse of conversation at these board meetings turns into personal attacks and accusations every time it becomes disrespectful every time it becomes us against them the focus changes it changes away from the victims and are trying to honor them away from our healing and away from trying to move forward and it prevents us from rebuilding my hope is that we can all remember this as we move forward thank you thank you so much thank you jill we have some individuals from graduation alliance i'm hoping that one of them joined us this year we have three graduates to announce through our graduation alliance recovery stephanie schwartz jordan quinn and jacob roland jacob are you here with us tonight jacob people was not able to join us today i heard he was coming but so you know those

026are that makes 40 graduates through our graduation alliance program since its inception in 2019 2019 yeah fantastic interesting thank you so much fantastic uh angela i'll give these to you as we have in previous meetings and we'll do probably in the foreseeable future we're going into closed session and we need this motion put out on the floor would someone like to do that please okay chad move to the closed session pursuant to the open meetings act section 8c for the purpose of strategy negotiation session connected with the collective bargaining grant and section 8e for the purpose of consulting with its attorney regarding trial strategy in connection with case numbers 21cd 22-1922620-100 22 cv one zero four zero seven dash m-a-g dash app 22-1 zero eight zero five cd-1113-jbl jakes jjcg 22-cd and 22-ce-11251-lfci thank you

027um mary will call boom i'll wait a minute in a second have a second oh you'll see i'm very good thank you we'll call him yes schaefer yes mr d'alessandro absent mr foster yes ms hansor yes mr bailey yes mr griffin yes mr donnelly yes all right 703 we're going into closed session you all can stay here or stay close we're going to be going somewhere i think angela yeah thank you back into open session thank you for everyone for your patience [Music] all right everyone we are in number five letter c uh 2022 2023 board of education meeting schedule i think the one change that's been made since we first put it out was we had a meeting in november that was on election day and we've moved that and so that's the one

028change that you that that would be on that [Applause] schedule would someone like to put that motion on the floor please [Applause] eric move to approve the 2022-23 oxford community school support of education meeting schedule as presented thank you support corey support discussion seeing none all those in favor say aye aye opposed motion carries there was a couple resolutions um that i think we again we were going to address in the last meeting but they are before us today the first is let michigan kids learn voucher discussion board members you have [Music] not that you should have two different two different ones the original one uh that is um titled resolution opposing let michigan kids learn voucher initiative the other one um has the same language but then at the end says let the voters

029decide it's it's a rewrite of the same one along with the emphasis that [Applause] at least put it on a ballot so that it can be voted upon and so um [Applause] the goal was as we typically do that we would review a resolution and discuss a resolution and then possibly voted vote on it in the next meeting or if you feel strongly enough we can turn it into a res uh emotion and we can do it in today's so it's written and such is that we would discuss it today and see what you might want to do so would anybody like to open up the discussion on the uh resolution which is probably one of the first ones i've had since being on the board which is an opposition resolution we we do not

030want to do what their petitioning to do and if you recall house senate voted on something it was vetoed now there's a collection of signatures and if a certain number of signatures get collected it could be put into law and there's a many many people in our community who are saying no if it goes that far let us vote on it and let's see what the people of the state of michigan say mary thank you president donnelly i'd be happy to give a little bit of background on these senate bills and the ballot initiative so this the house bills and the senate bills were passed on partisan lines they were sent to the governor who vetoed both of them these bills are tie barred which means they have to they're either both of them passed

031or neither of them passed in each house the these bills were written to establish a student student opportunity scholarships is what they were called they would establish a a scholarship granting organization which would be a 501c3 where people could um text michigan taxpayers could put money into this fund that would be managed by this scholarship granting organization and then people at certain income guidelines or certain types of students could apply to these student or scholarship granting organizations for some of those funds to pay for it could be for supplies it could be for tutoring it could be for private schools private schooling well this constitution of the state of michigan states that public funds are not to be spent on private schools it's in the it is in the resolution so that is that that's

032the biggest problem with that um what makes these 501c3s different than giving a donation to any other group that might be doing the same types of thing is that these bills and subsequently this ballot initiative asks for the the state to establish these that the donations would be um not to be i'm sorry let me um let me go back and then i want to be sure that i have the the wording correct they would be tax credits as opposed to tax deductions so as it the donations to these scholarship granting organizations would be deducted from your tax the tax payable as opposed to being deducted from your income which makes a huge difference when it comes to the money that comes to the state which pays for schools our foundation allowance comes from the

033state out of this tax money so instead of writing off a percentage of the donation this would have people being able to deduct from their tax due the amount that they donated um this would be up to in er it doesn't have a limit per person um there is an aggregate limit of 500 million dollars written into the bill so people have to actually apply to get into to make a donation because it all has to be balanced within it's all very complicated but basically what this is is a way to use public funds for private education and that is why there is such opposition to it masb the unions oppose it it takes a whole lot of money away from public schools and that's why public schools public school districts oppose it because it

034takes away it takes away money from our schools that by law is not to be spent on private education so really really what in when we're opposing this what we're saying is we need to follow what the constitution says not go around it in some way and put different words in so that you can use public funds for a private education the difference between some of the differences between the two resolutions the first one that we received that one came from masb but there were some changes that were made by some the folks out in west bloomfield to keep it focused on what it is we are opposed to which is redirecting we're opposed to redirecting public school dollars to private schools the constitution of michigan states no public monies or property shall be appropriated

035or paid or any public credit utilized by the legislature which means by making laws or any other political subdivision or agency or the state directly or indirectly to aid or maintain any private denominational or other non-public pre-elementary elementary or secondary school so the governor vetoed these bills and then the this group came out and said they were going to put it out as a ballot initiative now a ballot initiative isn't always what it sounds like because um and by the way it won't be on the ballot because they missed their signatures on the june 1st date but what they can do with the ballot initiative is if they gain enough signatures they can take it back to the legislature and the legislature can vote on it and it can become law without which would change

036the constitution of the state without a public vote which is also which also um goes against our rights as voters and that's why we have the constitution so there's the background thank you anyone else have any comments or questions or feelings about the resolution yes chad thank you tom so the way they're going about this it just feels [Applause] it feels dirty the way they're taking the vote away from what about 800 million i think that's i'm here right taking the vote out of our hands with only a small amount of signatures but as mary was talking through that it came back into my head right when we took when we took an oath to serve at this table [Applause] um one of the primary things that we promised to do was uphold the constitution

037the michigan constitution which we understand defines that public funds are not to be spent for private education we're also sitting here to add to advocate for public education if we were to sit here and not sign this resolution opposing this action i think that we're not doing our job [Applause] that's just my phone right there thank you anyone else have any strong feelings or thoughts [Applause] would you like to have a week to think about it we've got a meeting coming up that we can choose to i think voting and resolutions at the time that they're presented is not good okay it's not good for business practice i think you should always get the information and think on it and good come up with questions if you have by the way mary that was a

038great explanation [Applause] i think the whole procedure is very complicated so i hope that makes sense to try and like read up on it but i i gotta admit i got kind of like lost so thank you very much so i would like to do some thinking on that thank you [Applause] all right any other comments or questions today i just think that this line here pretty much sums it up it's a back door voucher program it just says they're not going about it the right way trying to sneak something in so [Applause] but yeah let's take a look think about it yeah pretty good very good so everyone let's study up and uh we will either um agree to how about this sometime uh maybe by the end of this week let me know

039what your druthers are how you're feeling kind of in a pull way and then i can work with angela to create a motion in preparation for uh next meeting as well as looking at the two different resolutions which language do you like the best like in particular i like the one that west bloomfield did but i would like to hear that from all of you and then i'll have her draft the motion in that way does that make sense so just get back to me on that all right thank you we move on to the secure storage resolution that you also have before you we actually heard about this some time ago and it's it's back before us there's a draft school board secure storage resolution that you have before you again any strong comments

040any questions anything that you would like to say now um and again uh if you choose we can just discuss some things now and we can put this as as heather said um to a motion in in our next meeting but anybody have any comments or questions that you'd like to share with your other board members yes corey i think this one's important enough and in my opinion it's a no-brainer right we lock up everything else we own our cars our house our cell phones why wouldn't we this one i i'd say let's move on it [Applause] chad [Applause] yeah corey action i i don't disagree um besides reading through this understanding what it's saying i i feel very strongly about this and i know as evidence from emails that we've heard from from the

041community um the events that took place this this saturday i think it's very clear that uh a large group of our community wants this in place as well [Applause] okay any other comments [Applause] heather i'm fine moving forward with this one tonight because of the sensitivity of the issue but just in general i think when we're talking about resolutions it's a good business practice to discuss them as a board think on them give provide you with some feedback and then vote on it the following week but like i i'm okay with you know moving forward with this tonight because it's it's because of what it's about and it's kind of that's a different sensitive situation for our community but um in general i just think that we should use that as a business practice mary

042thank you i did want to add as we're talking about this resolution there was an update to what is shown as a second paragraph on our draft resolution where it says 5.4 million american children live in households we did receive updated data that that has actually gone down to 4.6 million um we received that information from a community member and i did verify it on there um yeah the one that we have in front of us is 4.6 oh okay i'm looking at the old one then sorry angela you gave me a new one okay um i i also would like to uh if we're looking at this as is um what i'd like to add i'm sorry unless we did somewhere else um is at the beginning of the resolution is why we're doing

043this here in oxford uh something to the effect of um the safety and well-being of our students is our top priority something to that effect you know because this is what this is why this is important um because our students are important our community is important so i would just like to add something if we're looking at this is as if we could add a paragraph to it awareness whereas the safety and well-being of our students teachers and staff is a top priority in oxford community schools that's not done in the second whereas from the bottom is it at the bottom keeping students teachers and staff safe from threat of gun violence should be the responsibility of all adult stakeholders at each of our school sites i do think that well i do think that's

044i just thought that i thought that is different yeah i did see that one because this talks about it should be the responsibility of all stakeholders i was just adding talking about at the beginning just to say that securities are you know the safety of our students and staff is our top priority all right well if we're going to put that motion on the floor today then begin to draft that whereas because we need to add it um because i do well i do have that actually and i can say so my suggestion would be to put in our first whereas whereas the safety and well-being of our students teachers and staff is it is a top priority at oxford community schools so put it in in as the first whereas correct and then let

045the rest flow correct that's my understand say that whereas again whereas the safety and well-being of our students teachers and staff is a top priority at oxford community schools okay got that angela [Applause] okay any other modifications or changes to this because we're going to have to turn this into a motion is anyone opposed to doing this motion today okay [Applause] drafting the motion moved to support [Applause] the secure storage of firearms resolution [Applause] as presented [Applause] the presented is her mary's first whereas plus what we have before us the therefores or the resolves for those of you who don't have them [Applause] uh after all the whereas is the result that the board directs the superintendent and staff to update the student handbook to include information about the secure storage firearms resolve further that

046the board directs the superintendent to create an appropriate letter in english and spanish to parents and guardians that explain the importance of secure gun storage to protect miners from accessing [Applause] irresponsibly stored guns to be included in annual registration materials at each school site and requiring a signature acknowledging awareness of secure gun storage responsibilities and be it finally resolved that the board and the superintendent will continue to work with local law enforcement agencies health agencies and non-profits to collaborate and increase efforts to inform district parents about secure storage of firearms in their homes and then obviously the signatures that we would typically put underneath them right someone say so moved so there's a motion by cory [Laughter] is there a second chad second any more discussion seeing none all those in favor say aye aye

047opposed motion carries thank you for being nimble and working on that one everyone we move on to f which is board member committees uh heather requested that this be brought up kind of in a discussion we've had discussions about committees that are formed committees that may be formed as superintendent weaver rolls out his three-year plan and what is the role of board members in these committees which ones can they get involved in which ones what they maybe not get involved in i think that heather that was kind of the basis of the discussion that you wanted but i'll hand the floor over to you for a second um so this is something i brought up quite some time ago even with tim but um many other school districts have board members on committees such as

048curriculum security and safety maybe possibly even a community liaison or community relations committees they have you know i don't want to say hands-on involvement like in the weeds type of thing but they they have been involved and that's just part of like of their work sessions that they do and we have never done that here at oxford and then when we had our masb training a couple of months ago we discussed it if you guys remember and he suggested and agreed that yes most boards have working committees that include board members at least you know they're so that they have a better pulse on what's going on i think especially in light of what's gone on these last couple months it would have been beneficial for many um reasons communication the primary for us to

049have been more involved in those areas as we're have we have been all been playing a lot of catch up on finding information out and um that is not really our role we shouldn't be catching up on finding information out we should be knowing that information and i just really feel that that would um going forward that would be a step in the right direction and i've emailed you guys about it and text and so i finally asked for it to be on the agenda so that it can be discussed in public so that people can can know that you know that this is what some of us want um including which is the next agenda item the the memorial committee um you know all of a sudden that you know that all of a

050sudden has three board members on it and the other the other areas we haven't been able to get one board member i i just i find that frustrating so i wanted to talk about that and see how the rest of you felt collectively why we're here together maybe i'm the only one that feels this way i don't know [Applause] mary thank you um thank you heather i have been talking to some board members from other um areas about the committees that they participate with um and things that they do outside of the board um separate from a committee i you know i'm interested in being also knowing more of what's going on in some of the individual buildings you know being seeing going to the events and things like that you know with the students

051now that we can get back with students but that's that is secondary so in talking with some other board members what i found with their committees is that they participate with is that they often are there just to gain more information and delve further into some things that maybe the whole board is not interested in hearing about whether it's the budget or the curriculum though i think our folks do a good job of sharing with us and giving us time to ask questions about those things i just want to be really careful if we're going to be involved with committees that are part of the day-to-day operations that that we're not involved that makes me uncomfortable saying that we're involved because as a board member i'm not i don't want to i'm not helping administration

052make decisions about what they're doing and how they're teaching or or the specifics you know which vendor they should use or what program they should use that's not really my um that's not my place as the board member i would see this more as participating in the committees to gain more information you know and bring it back to the board of you know going deeper into some of these things that are being discussed as opposed to i just want to be sure that we don't give any input um unless specifically asked for something i just want to be sure that we'd be careful with something like that i think that it would be important to have a structure to it so everybody is clear about what their role is in said committees so that's where

053my mind was going with that thank you anyone else chad now so i i [Applause] i've actually been pretty content with the way we've been functioning it it doesn't it wouldn't i wouldn't have any concern being on additional committees but i have i have felt um comfortable getting the reports from the administration um i feel comfortable going back to administration with whatever questions come up um so i don't know that i don't know i guess i i i'm not sure maybe i need to think through it a little bit more to really understand what what the the benefit um would be at least at least for me if we do have i mean if we did go this route and we had board members seated on these committees i guess in my mind kind of

054kind of what you were saying mary um there to to listen and absorb but then turn that information around and report back out to the board to the rest of us to to be aware of what's going on there but again i guess you know from where i'm sitting i'm i'm i'm comfortable the way the relationship that we've got with administration i don't i guess it doesn't really it doesn't really bother me all that much what i would the other thing that i wanted to to mention though on the memorial committee specifically we had we had we had decided i think this was in our last meeting if i remember right that three of us would come together to build a framework around what this committee would look like and then once we're able to

055once we're at a point where we can start pulling the community in [Applause] then we would take the the board members on that committee would would come back and reassess our actual role we wouldn't the plan is the way i'm understanding it the plan is not that we remain on that committee active members of that committee or even voting members of that committee as it moves forward that we we at least come together now put that framework together and really get us get a firm foundation under us the latter i would agree with i mean if you recall at our last meeting there was some division on the board as to should any board members be on there at all or is it necessary to have some board members on there to begin with and

056we compromised with yes at the beginning build the framework get it rolling and then maybe in the fall we're looking at pulling all or at least two away and letting one be ex officio right we're just a listener right no differently one of the keys i think is that's really important that is what is our role even if we end up on a committee [Applause] when when when when one of us is sitting on a committee and we speak are we speaking for the other six people on the board when we speak to them we are because we're board members we're not just anybody we're board members who are going to end up voting on the things that are going to be coming out of those committees so one of the things if we're going

057to if we're going to start getting more active one of the things we better have is clear definition of what our role is in those committees because or else we're going to end up in meetings like this saying well you weren't speaking for me right i mean and and we can't have that we can't have that secondly from their perspective imagine imagine some teachers and some administrators in a room and a board member or let's say i'm on there as a president and say well i think this every one of them is going to go i guess we ought to do that now right we got to avoid that type of manipulation or or not even non-intended manipulation because of our presence a concern i have is many of the boards many of the school

058districts committees meet during the day why because that's when they work and they are the committee curriculum committee right accounting or finance committee they meet during the day and so are they going to have to change their schedules because you want to be on the curriculum committee but you don't get off work until sex right so we gotta i think there's i think somehow i don't know if we needed a little subcommittee of our own to start defining this before we we raise it out but the one thing i want you to to realize is that i've always thought it would be driven by need so recently safety obviously being one of the largest things that we've done going from covid to the horrific shooting to have someone like heather or or cory or somebody

059on that committee is simply there to on our behalf listen you're going to be so much information is pouring out of that so much information is pouring out of that and you're a liaison to say yes i was in that meeting and i heard and that's what was said and that was discussed it's almost as if you're a witness affirming [Applause] but then when that level's off and maybe safety isn't a bigger thing but curriculum is or that's levels off and it's something else that it would be to me not that it's always we're on every committee but maybe the need is what drives whether a board member should be on the committee and hence i'm i'm sensing some different views on how that should be and i'm wondering um how best to resolve this

060because i don't think we can start i don't think we can say to superintendent weaver start putting board members on every one of these committees until we have some rules regulations and kind of like a little bit of code ethic is as to what our job is and and um mary or angela is there somebody at masb that could help me navigate i'd like to talk to somebody about this very subject at masb and then be able to have maybe uh heather on that thing with me a call and and let's come back to this board and come back with ken with a unified approach saying look this is how other districts do it in michigan here's here's what we think and blah blah blah and come back with something that an expert is telling

061us might make sense can you do that okay corey i think the other thing you need to look at too is what value does that board member bring to that committee i mean we talked explain well we talked earlier like chad's got a background in technology so if we had a technology committee he would bring value as a former firefighter paramedic yes being on safety but jill's already got that covered i'm not bringing more value than what she already has i think that needs to play into it what value do you bring are you just sitting there as a board member and and then if it is because of his expertise i would almost argue he's not there as a board member because again if he makes a decision if he says something yeah is

062he saying that for us right that's the cautiousness of all of this because yes his his knowledge and technology if we're going to spend five million dollars in technology having somebody like him purviewing that and watching that and going hey hey wait wait wait that's valuable but then he's there as a consultant he's there as chad griffith he's not there as a school board member i'm i'm worried about that because if he all of a sudden starts directing traffic and you will be where perception is you're a board member you will be there as a board member yeah so then that goes back to what value do you bring yep yep and what dangers do you bring speaking on behalf of six other people heather so i just wanted to circle back around and to

063me the value comes back again to the communication piece i'm not talking about about us sitting in as um and necessarily participating and i'm not talking about doing it after hours i'm talking about on a voluntarily based voluntarily basis of board members who can attend meetings that they're interested in going to during the day in a selected amount of areas i'm not talking about everything the school district is doing like to get into the weeds i'm just talking about bridging communication between the board and the functionalities of what's going on and especially what's been going on the last six months that's what i'm talking about i've been talking about it for a long time it's bridging the communication that's what i'm referring to [Applause] i appreciate that distinction um so one of the things with

064that again bridging it to who and with whom because if jill is in charge of safety does she no longer have to give us an update because someone on the safety committee is going to give us an update who's on the board what if the information we get from the board member isn't exactly what jill thought happened we paid jill to do a job and she needs to give us the updates she communicates to us and by doing so she communicates to the community my presence on that on that committee helps me to communicate with whom [Applause] it helps you to have knowledge as the board member to know about the general information and the security of what is going on in our district and be able to communicate it back to the board if

065questions arise and just kind of be that go-to person on the board kind of an in-between necessarily okay i got i i see where you're i asked for years to come to the security meetings that were the bi-annual ones i finally invited myself last time okay all right yes ma'am huh i i just had another i did have another comment on that so i i also have a concern with um you know i can bring back information from masb and ocsba and share that with the board but when it's here in our district i i don't want to be interpreting information from administration through my own filters to bring it back to the board that's why we have the presentations that we have that's why folks spend the time coming up here and telling us

066these things and sam is going to spend all this time telling us about the budget and we have time to ask those questions i don't i don't want to sit on the committee meeting come back here and tell the board what i heard because if i then it's up to me now what if i mistake something and i'm just giving information to the board that's incorrect now administration's actually going to circle around behind me to correct it for all of you um so i'm i'm a little concerned about playing or us playing a role like that and i see eric has his hand up eric so so i think we're over complicating it so maybe it's just as simple as if we have a board member that has interest in some of these areas they

067should be able to sit in on it and just listen right just that's all we're saying is just listen don't participate don't give your opinion don't even come back to the board with your opinion i'm just interested in what happens in the safety and security i want to hear it and that's it right if somebody has one of us has an interest in an area and they want to participate or just hear what it's about then let them be able to listen and see what happens in one of these meetings maybe it's just as simple as that eric i think it should be if that's what we're going to do it should be and but i think that has to be written right right that has to be written analysis and that's fine maybe that's

068and we just go in with an understanding of i'm going to go in there and i'm going to keep my mouth shut and i'm going to be a fly on the wall because i want to know what's said i don't need to come and tell you what happened give my opinion you know because it could be different than whatever but no it actually happened because yes i'm you know i have filters too but right maybe that's how we define it okay okay so i was just going to add that you know we can certainly work with whatever the board decides on this topic and and try to make it and facilitate it the only thing i think it is important like you had said is maybe talk with some others masb and get some some

069input so we can kind of decide the structure but as well too to be consistent as somebody that will have to facilitate that what i would ask from the board is that whatever approach we decide that we agree upon or that you agree upon that we're consistent with it so then i can make sure because i'm going to have to facilitate that make sure that um help out when things might go a little bit askew which i don't think they would necessarily and i would like to say too as well we welcome the input of the board as well too as far as being on the committee uh and and listening i don't think there's anything there that that is worrisome or or anything else i do think that you know there is a good

070to clear up exactly them what is the role coming back to the board and and so forth and exactly what you're doing but that part i would need to have clarity on so as i can help facilitate this for you okay yeah all right yes just one last comment because i think that you know we have a unique opportunity to see the inner workings of a school system that a lot of other people wouldn't so if if maybe i have interest in you know i don't want safety and security i just want to see how it works right i want to see how those decisions are made and hear the opinions of the experts that should be okay right as long as i'm not giving my opinion or trying to persuade people we just have

071to be careful too because just being there could influence decisions right because people might not give their wholehearted opinion if if a board member's there because it's like you know you did something bad and now you got to go tell your parents you might not actually tell them the whole truth if your if your parent is sitting there so we just have to be very cautious of that as well that's all thank you thank you all right angela so i think we can yes yes we're going to make we got it's going to be valuable to make that connection and to uh talk in a in the direction that we're going get input and then draft something it's all good all right thank you board members you're good i'm just just saying heather appreciate you

072bringing that bring that up i think this is i think this is a good conversation thanks yeah thank you thank you uh permanent moral committee discussion uh we had a little bit of it but just to reiterate in our last meeting um the three individuals were picked to be on that committee the goal would be for you guys to immediately contact some other school districts that have regrettably gone through some of the same things that we're going through talk about what they learned in the process what they would repeat what they wouldn't do and [Music] have that begin to guide you especially in how did you select community members how many were on your committee how did you layer it in students and faculty and and and um significant people in the community and how

073did you do that how did you do it and and um so that we can then come back you'll come back to the board and say look we've contacted these following schools this is kind of where we're feeling we're going do we have your blessing we say yes now you go find those community members and then you start getting them on board and they start studying what others have done and you guys start talking about eventually what might be our permanent memorial what might it look like where might it be those kinds of things and that's going to take weeks and months and maybe even years [Applause] but eventually as we promised somewhere in the late fall you were you're going to come back to us and say how strong and how stable is that

074is that community-based group and are we ready to have one of you just be their ex officio and pull the other two out because you're not there to make decisions you're there to just be a liaison and let the community drive that which i thought was a major request from people on this board was at the end of the day we want the community to have made the decision at us right we agreed upon that so um just wanted to clarify what we kind of compromised with last time and where you're you're headed now anybody else have any comments or questions on that topic all right oh yeah go ahead heather so the families would also be included in that that's exactly some of the questions they're going to ask where did they fit in

075that process did they fit in the approval end of the process were they in the front end of the process where that's the kind of stuff that we've got to gain they're going to get this information from other places correct what what did you do what did you learn what worked best and now that if there's some things that didn't go well what would you have done now that you did it and and and so that's what i think they have to glean because we've never done it before and so we have to try to figure out maybe from some other school districts and people who ran those committees what were the things that were right and what were the things that weren't so right and help us guide us and and uh if you

076were to do it again how would you do it so that we can learn from that yeah and tom if i could could i could add talking with the other with with other districts talking with community entities that have done this type of thing um you know i i think the idea is you said it look just look really looking for some guidance not saying you tell me you did it this way i'm going to do exactly that the idea is let's learn from these other districts other communities that have gone through something like this and figure out how oxford can can fit into that how does how do we take their what they've learned and make it work for us that's it yeah that's it well and we've got two um what is her

077name our recovery coordinator that we just hired she might have some really good [Music] insight for you guys too to keep you on track with her if i remember her resume yeah she's in your packet as well laura good morning yeah good thought thank you [Applause] all right anything else mr weaver points of pride yeah i've got quite a few but i'll try to go uh somewhat quickly through them uh points of pride throughout the district um oelc is getting ready to start summer camp uh 250 campers from infants to 12 years of age this is an increase of 25 percent more students from last year i think you can see a little bit of a theme as you go through here that some of the in-person activities are starting to return as well as

078the participation transportation wanted you to know that on june 9th the mapt electric school bus project along with epa region 5 hosted an informational webinar to assist school districts in the region who are applying for federal rebates offered through the epa's clean school bus program i imagine it has to do the electric buses technician mark hildebrand bus driver lee rogers and transportation director ann whedon along with four of the other mbbt mapt electric school bus districts presented on real life experiences living with the electric school bus over the last two and a half years it was a great success and if you're able to help other school districts make the decision to apply for the rebate funds our work over the last five years has paid off ms whedon says so it's been a successful

079program so far now that the students and staff are out of the buildings the custodian facility facility staff will be able to work in the buildings and prepare them for the new school year that always kicks in right as soon as the students and staff are out of the building and the facility staff is also cutting the grass at draynor road this summer which is quite a project that is a big piece of land in the past week at oms oxford middle school has returned to in-person honors nights and also end-of-the-year field trips sixth seventh and eighth graders enjoyed trips to the legacy center oakland yard and cedar point for the first time in three years so that was fantastic uh bridges students did an amazing job during maymester service learning uh they had students

080who have they got several students who have significant anxiety issues and so forth um and this was a huge win by having them present their individual defenses and if you ever get a chance to go over and view this or help out with the maymester service learning projects it's a great experience the kids do a great job with the service learning as well as then they have to present on it and it's a great opportunity for these struggling students to sometimes to get up there and they just come through and are rock stars they do a great job and present and it's a lot of fun and exciting to see i've done it several times over graduation 61 graduates walked across the stage i believe this is like their largest group and amy weghorst organized

081a neighborhood book drive for the ova students at the daeruwahi site in detroit students that do their schooling at this location do not have access to any children's literature and other than online resources she ended up collecting over 300 books emmy weghorst is also an el or esl teacher and does great work out with the ova students out there as well as many school supplies gift cards for snacks and materials so that was a great project that came through due to her hard work ohs the ohs chamber choir led by the choir director leo humbach performed the national anthem at comerica for the detroit tigers at chicago white sox game baseball game last night and they did a great job with the oxford night i was there last night it was a beautiful night and

082they did a great job although the tigers didn't come through uh it still nonetheless was a a good night to celebrate oxford and our uh community showed out and was there in force so celebrating at crossroads celebrating academic success graduation of one student received a high school diploma and three students received their ged completer mr cocosetta has done a great job with pushing these kids to accomplish to have goals and to accomplish them out there especially academic goals i mean these are kids you know that struggle have a lot of challenges in life ahead of them as well as in their past as well and they are working to overcome those and to become successful so they have a high school diploma which is a fantastic feat as well as three three ged completers which

084in field day went on field trips and participated in school assemblies clear lake end of the year field trips for all grade levels field day fifth grade camp and hosting parrots again for big events such as exhibition and fifth grade celebration oes i had several things as far as exhibition field day as well too but also had circus among us uh that was great activity i believe i sent you some photos of that the kids were just crazy enjoying it it was great to attend in person and to hear a matter of fact i had to leave go home take care of something and then i came back again and spent the rest of the afternoon there it was great to see it was fantastic to be involved and watch the kids participate and just

085scream and holler and be positive with each other and then at lakeville lakeville completed a very successful ib self-study process uh the last day of school pause assembly where many students were honored for being reflective learners as well too so that's some of the points of prides across the district and happy to share thank you so much i'm glad we're doing that each meeting it's it's just good to get caught up with all the positive stuff that's happening thank you all right we are moving on to six curriculum instruction um mrs anita collins let's see review the purchase of equipment for radio television broadcasting technology program at oxford high school is there something you want to present before that we make this motion uh no actually i'm going to take care of it it's just

086under her name but it's really you can see the items i believe in your packet this is a apple computers they are sold source providers we don't really have a lot of options and we need these computers they meet the specifications that we need as you know in like many of the graphic arts or theater or radio television a lot of that is dependent on certain brands and certain types and apple being one of those that is well known in the in that community as delivering the goods and so this is to replace uh we we're going to be using cte funds to do this we have all of our labs on like a five year six years roughly cycle for replacement and mrs butts is on top of that so [Applause] all right someone

087put this motion on the floor and we can discuss go ahead chad move to approved purchase i'm sorry move to approve to purchase equipment and accessories from apple store for education institution for the radio television and broadcasting technology program at oxford high school for the total amount of 56 three hundred ninety four dollars thank you is there support um cory support discussion a quick question um mr weaver you said these are cte funds yes yes mrs butts part of the added cost funds that we get we use that to replace the labs on a cycle usually about five years thank you anything else [Applause] seeing nothing um all in favor say aye aye opposed motion carries mr barna finance and maintenance [Applause] [Music] good evening again [Applause] so what you have in your board packet

088obviously and what we have in front of you for the audience this is the final amended budget for the current fiscal year current school year that is dictated in the column g highlighted in blue and then obviously our proposed budget for next year which is highlighted in yellow as a reminder i know i do this every year twice a year i want to remind everyone that we sort all of our revenues and expenditures by function and that little key to what's in those high level functions are here up in the key as you see up here on the right so please refer to that if you'd like a little bit further detail as to what is in those categories going back to the budget itself and specifically the state aid foundation allowance per pupil sam

089can you make it a little bigger sure [Music] just let me know is that good or you want a little bit bigger no that's probably pretty good okay so the first row again goes to our state aid per pupil assumption right now there's obviously varying degrees of funding that are out there from the state obviously the house the senate as well as the governor are all out there with specific dollar amounts they have yet to come to an agreement we are taking a stance that it will be a 400 at the minimum per pupil foundation allowance for next year the governor i believe put out 435 i believe the senate put out 450 and the house put out 300 and so many districts are just basically just taking a good educated guess and again for

090us it's a 400 uh amount moving forward with that looking at the enrollment um we are basically assuming a flat enrollment for next school year and so the sheer increase from the 400 times our enrollment or fte for students gets us right around a 2.8 million dollar increase and then that amount is shown under state revenue here we have some other small amounts that are increased it's not just the foundation allowance there's categoricals that are within that state revenue source and so that's why you see the revenue is increased year over year as an estimate by over 3 million dollars also within this revenue figure you do see that there's an increase of federal funds if you look at again um 5.6 million approximately a federal funds as a final amended budget this year a

091slight increase next year 5.749 and just a little bit of notes in regards to that the federal funds specifically 68 of those federal funds both this year and specifically this is referring to next year um 3.8 million dollars is attributed to specifically one-time sr 2 and sr-3 funding um that consists that that 3.8 million dollars of sr2 and sr3 consists of 1.4 million dollars of equipment and then recurring costs after next year of 2.4 million of salaries and benefits associated to individuals that we are funding in the district with those one-time coveted related funds so i want to be very specific that again we have baked into our budget again the revenue but we have the expense and most of that expense is again recurring even after the one-time funds are gone so what does

092that mean for us that means that we're going to be dependent upon further larger increases and state foundation allowance to help us afford the individuals that we're talking about that we've been hiring and are paid for currently with federal funds it also means that we're going to have to continue to look at efficiencies within our general fund budget to see where we can remove reduce in order to continue to afford those individuals on a go forward basis so those are really the two items that i wanted to mention um again from an affordability standpoint [Applause] jim could you give me that number again 2.4 million yes so if again if you look at the um 5.7 million dollars in federal funding for next year that i'm proposing um approximately 68 percent of that 5.7 is

093attributed or 3.8 3.8 million so same thing 68 or 3.8 million of that 5.7 million is again attributed to sr2 and sr3 funding and of that 3.8 1.4 of it is equipment so for instance we are promethium boards uh we have uh also electronic sound equipment that goes along with promethean and so again non-people related costs so things that will not be in perpetuity such as obviously individuals after next year so that's my my whole point in mentioning that and these aster funds are only available through next year actually um the esser funds depending on us what essers we are speaking of are actually good from for through uh september 30th of 24. yeah so we we technically have two more years on many of these funds okay okay so good question but still one-time

094funds that will run out right and then it's foreseeable future they're not going to come again correct um so now if we can move on towards uh the bottom which is the expenditure side of the equation since we just touched upon revenue and again if you'd like further detail as i mentioned earlier in regards to what are in those function buckets you just go up to your legend and um or ask me the question that's fine too but you could you can see that description above to the far right you will see here that the majority of our functions are obviously um in the negative and what that means is that next year is projected to be higher than the current final amended budget for this year which is in blue and so i say

095negative it's a good thing we're hiring more people we're paying people more but from a sure fiscal standpoint you know it come from a finance background it's a negative because you're spending more than what you spent last year and so uh again much of the uh expenses and the increases are related to bargaining unit increases obviously that have been approved and that will be approved um going forward for the for the next three years and so within this year's budget and more specifically within next year's budget and the years after we have to incorporate those increases those expected increases in costs [Applause] and so again i don't want to read to you but as you can see you look down the list again step increases staffing increases all associated throughout those function codes if i

096go down to the transportation um and you see a large increase in transportation 14.4 well obviously gas has gone up astronomically um so that's a large large component i frankly budgeted about 85 percent higher than what i budgeted this year for fuel obviously we have two electric buses which is fantastic but the majority of our buses are gasoline powered so that's where you see that cost and again the remainder of that for transportation as an example is is obviously uh bargaining unit wages that we anticipate you know rising year over year [Applause] sam we've over the last few years we've gotten rid of all the diesel burners we have okay yeah yeah with again with those uh electric buses part of the grant from the state of michigan which was actually a settlement from the

097volkswagen settlement that was part of the stipulation of receiving the grants that you actually had to drill holes through the blocks of the diesel engines in order to get that that grant and so we did that and so again the gas buses are the way to go if if we cannot afford electric further electric going forward obviously so and again those electric buses are great uh but again they're very expensive compared to a standard um you know gasoline bus at least three times the cost well and and the reason i guess the reason i asked it right now is i mean i don't have a diesel burner at home but i think there's a there's quite a premium on diesel fuel over what gasoline cost today yeah approximately 10 um before the drastic increase over

098the past two months um it was about a 17 to 20 increase depending on the gas station you went to so of course we're buying our our fuel in bulk but again if you're looking at the retail price it was as high as 17 to 20 percent so thank you so you know if i if i go down a little further and i just show the the end expected result and bear with me one second um you'll see that i expect this year to end approximately 265 000 favorable so excess revenue over expenses i propose to move 200 of that 265 000 into the capital project fund and then the remaining 65 000 that i'm estimating to go into the general fund fund balance so the general fund fund balance is currently at 11.4 million

099we expect then it would go to a little over 11.5 and so as you can see on the left here for the yellow which is next year's proposal it's a very similar scenario we see that 305 000 is what i propose that the general fund will be ahead again putting another 200 000 into the capital project fund for any types of you know equipment that maybe goes bad a boiler you know whatever type of uh situation that we have in the district that requires a fairly large amount of capital and that we don't have to hit the general fund with that expense we could use the capital project fund instead so that is why we've been devoting over the past several years money in excess within the general fund to fund the capital project fund

100so does anyone have any questions in regards i know i skimmed through this fairly quickly but i am more than happy to answer any questions that you may have what's that um sam what's that bottom percentage i know that we've been upwards of 15 16 17 we have where where is that silver that right next year next year it's 13.21 and it i think that it's a great question mr donnelly i think what's important to note is is that has been shrinking over the past several years and the reason why it's been shrinking is because our revenue has dramatically gone up primarily due to the ester related funds not all we've also grown substantially in terms of fte and students primarily due to ova and our share time programs so my point is is that

101we've had our relatively consistent uh general fund fund balance around the 11 million dollar mark but our denominator has gone up dramatically which is our revenue so that that is why you see that that percentage shrinking over the past several years so what you're saying is that the the government funds are decr increasing the denominator which is affecting your percentage correct so if those funds were outside of there and never spent we might we would see a different percentage yeah we'd see a higher percentage for sure okay thank you yeah thank you no we we're grateful for the funds sure sure um but that does take an effect on our percentage of fund balance percentage for the general fund so any other board members have a comment or question on that yes one more question

102sam or just a clarification right sure so when we're looking at um finances anything printed in red is usually not a good thing what we're seeing here the the red that we see on this spreadsheet is not signifying that we're running out of cash in any of those accounts it's indicative correct year over year changes that is correct so the red that you see there is specific to expense categories and so again the red is exactly as you said it's just showing the year over year so this year what we where we feel we're going to end for expenses versus where we feel we're going to end june 30th next year of 23 with expenses and so we feel that again uh over most of those categories were going to be significantly higher and again

103when i say the word significantly it's in general not that significant we're still having a positive fund balance is what i estimate at the end of next year so but so the categories that we're looking at though these those numbers are also reflecting the contracts that we've just corrected the improvements in the contract that is correct good thanks absolutely great question anyone else please continue thank you um i am done with the uh general fund fund the the budget here for both this year as well as the proposal for next year so i'm more than happy to take any questions from the audience if if there are any out there yes this is one time every year where we have public comment other than an unscheduled audience participation and that's when a budget is being

104proposed so does anyone have any desire to ask sam a question or make a comment on the proposed budget all right see none i think we're good thank you i have two more items that i'll stay up here for if that's okay yep i believe the next one is the uh retirement plan retirement plan yeah so we actually this is an older retirement plan it's called a 401a currently in the district we do not offer 401 a's to our new employees existing employees these are two retirees that still have the old 401 a and what this is is just an irs regulation and just a restatement that we still have these 401as for a subset of our employees and as a reminder there are two so uh i just from an irs standpoint i need

105to ensure that the board uh obviously passes this so we that is correct would someone like to put this motion on the floor mary move to approve the restatement of qualified retirement plan resolution as presented is there support corey support discussion seeing none all those in favor say aye aye aye opposed motion carries bid recommendation thank you yes so um actually jill myself tony sarkins and several others including sash uh in technology uh actually worked over the last several months put together a bid pack with ids our architectural firm for a mass notification system across the district and so we had a bid opening last week and there were two bidders obviously i posted uh the project the proposal the rfp out on the state website and it was actually sent out to at least

10634 different vendors who specialized in this type of project again mass notification we did have again two bidders ultimately in the end and uh we are proposing the lowest bidder which is clements electric uh a million 34 was the low bid the only other bid was conti uh conti was approximately a hundred thousand dollars more it was one million one hundred and forty nine thousand so uh we we would like to take that forward and uh start the process here upon board approval uh this summer with putting a mass notification system uh both at the high school in the middle school and then ultimately at all buildings across the district in the elementary specifically so okay thank you um let's put the motion on the floor and then we can ask whatever questions we may

107have someone uh heather move to award the district wide mass notification system project to clements electric and the amount of one million thirty four thousand five hundred dollars is recommended thank you so much uh support corey support all right discussion is this amount for those two schools and the others will be additional or does this cover all of it covers all it's district-wide thank you absolutely all right uh corey was there anything in the other bid that made it that much higher that we might need or higher price it wasn't glaring it was just a slightly higher price you know and um again uh if you looked at each building um compared to one bid from the next um you know uh it was higher in one one bidder and the next bidder was a

108little bit lower and so it kind of varied and just it worked out to be about a hundred thousand dollars lower for the low bid approximately so uh it just depended on which school and the assumptions that the bidder made based upon the rfp documentation that we put forth out there to the public so thank you mary sam did you say this went out to 45 uh 34 34. uh so that was on the state that was on the state website so what happens when you post a request for a proposal or an rfp regardless of what it's for you go on the state's website and you basically put your rfp you put it when it's due you put all the detail what happens is when you put it out there it sends um to

109all vendors that are registered for that commodity and when i say commodity it's very loose terminology what this what this commodity was was a mass notification system and so um there's all the other terminologies to use as well but vendors across the state maybe even across the country if they're registered with the state of michigan will see an email after i post the rfp it's sent out that evening to any one vendor that is registered for that commodity or service okay within the state of michigan and so that's why it sent it out to 34 individual vendors but in addition to that ids architecture also put it on their website and so i'm sure that i did not ask but i'm sure that there was several companies that also got the rfp and the information

110from their website as well so so um even out of all that we only had two who were who were able willing and able correct to do the work that's correct yeah so it's not lack of trying no absolutely not i mean from a financial perspective i'd love to have as many bitters as i can assuming that they're capable of doing the project so yeah thank you thank you great question anyone else chad sam so looking at the um [Applause] the vendor site i noticed that this type of system is used a lot in office buildings are you aware of other districts that have used this product so personally i'm not um i don't know if our technology department knows if there's any other uses within the state uh that use this specific uh notification

111system per se uh but i do not i don't know of one internally myself right that's fair and maybe it's on the website and i just wasn't able to locate it sure um i guess so at some point would we be able to see a not a demonstration but some level of presentation so we could understand a little bit more about how that product is supposed to operate once it's installed sure so i think we do have one um i'm going to put someone on the spot and turn around right now if you don't mind and ask them but uh pardon me it would either be jill or sash do we know and i'm sorry do we have a pro i thought we did have a presentation we'll have something for you okay thank you

112thanks thank you thank you fair question as well so i i want to just also uh let you know that this is tied to the fire alarm system as well so this notification should something be triggered should obviously uh this notification system be triggered um it obviously goes to 9-1-1 so that's that's how it works and it goes through the fire system so i don't want to be very specific about that [Applause] heather okay so kind of going back to what chad asked so we want approval to spend a million dollars on a system but we haven't seen it unless it was in the board packet like in an attachment and i missed it or what what what are the nuts and bolts of this system is it um what what what are the nuts

113and bolts of it so the majority of it is is strobe so it's both an audio and a visual system so it's an audio and visual that's correct and so uh we we're gonna have panels throughout several panels depending on the size of the building um that will basically take all of the transmitters that are gonna be installed throughout each of the buildings and there's gonna be several quite quite quite a few and so what's going to happen is within within the classrooms within hallways within the cafeteria as an example here you're going to have an audio visual system that will alert everyone internally but then as i mentioned before it will also alert 9-1-1 through the fire system as well what about external things like courtyards and parking lots and we are we are

114factoring those in as well so playgrounds you know in terms of playground location we need to put those near there jill do you know off the top of your head and i apologize are we going to be placing those at most of the elementary's exterior doors i mean at 12 o'clock everybody's outside yeah when you're little i know that was part of the discussion with ids and they mapped out locations and we're going to be working with the vendor to determine and with secure education consultants exactly where we would want the strobes and their amber lit just for your knowledge as well now is that is that shared by other districts i remember when i did go to the security safety committee they were talking about all the schools in the same color so that

115you know if you move to rochester you're we haven't already explored that option we cannot do blue for example we have to do amber or white it's by state code um by state code yes um so amber is what most schools are using is what we were told and we didn't want it we wanted to have it be different than the fire system which is white so right okay eric so [Applause] is this a time critical like if we don't decide on this tonight is there something bad going to happen so and i'm asking that because i have to kind of back with heather was just mentioning we're asked we're being asked to approve over a million dollars in cost and we know nothing like we haven't seen anything so maybe we should see something

116before we actually spend this money i'd like to a little more information on what it is we're spending money on before we spend it yeah and just just to be frightened with you you know what you have down here is no re there's no resolution to my knowledge this is just a discussion item we were looking to have this come back to you on the 21st next next tuesday for your approval it's the force and emotion i'm sorry on the agenda it's emotional isn't it i don't apologize that's why you have board members oh i am so sorry yeah i apologize yeah so we are more than happy to delay this on obviously it's a large amount of money and we want to get you the information that you are requesting uh prior to making

117that call it just makes sense so [Applause] i would appreciate that i i just like to understand what it is we're spending money on that's all of course right especially if it's not time critical if if we gotta do run on it right now then of course but if we got a little more time i you know do you think sooner is better but certainly we can wait until the next day okay it's coming up yeah so if it wasn't if we um do we can we would do we withdraw a motion what do we do corey what do we do if it's not do we have to vote it down you would have to vote it down but i guess i guess my question is what more are we going to see in the

118presentation that we aren't going to see in the brochure and literature that you did give us because it wasn't yeah the brochure and all the literatures in the packet i mean i looked through it i'm comfortable with it what else would you be presenting i guess i'm not certain if i maybe if you wanted to see like visuals or we could ask the vendor for video or something like that i'm not certain um i did think you guys had some of the specs and like i said we're going to be working with sec to sort of personalize the approach in each building yeah because i mean the brochures right here you can look at it it's it's an incredible system our next meeting is next next tuesday so let's just let's just vote it down

119we can wait one week and everybody can have a chance to look at it okay i don't want to pressure eric or heather or anybody else so to maybe see what you can get from the vendor that might be a short video thing i'm sure that they must have something that that as they're trying to sell this thing they got some video that they show people maybe get that in a packet for us and then we'll vote we'll vote on this motion then also i just want to follow up with with both of you the request to do a full circle with pre-planned live because that was a lot of money and i i want to know where that fits in the whole scheme of mass communication and communication out to fire departments police departments

120and those kind of things okay all right thank you i don't get that everything comes through what's that yes any more discussion all right all those in favor say aye those opposed motion does not carry and so that motion is rejected thank you sam david pass well hello again um before we get into the uh the motion on the agenda i just wanted to uh thank the board for approving our personnel recommendations this evening uh we're very excited that we have laura zoni our recovery coordinator who officially started she was sick on the day that she was starting was officially supposed to start so she had her work cut out for her in the last week of the school year but she certainly hit the ground running and she's going to be a tremendous asset

121to the district like to congratulate steve wolf who july 1st will assume his new responsibilities as assistant superintendent of secondary instruction also todd barlos who will be officially i know he'll be on a family vacation the first week of july so he will officially set foot in the district on july 11th uh so that'll be his official start date we're excited to have todd join our team um he's going to be amazing and then we had a couple other district employees who will be serving in new capacities that you approve this evening in both of those multiple additional responsibilities in their new roles but part of that is uh both tied to technology where uh gary van stavrin is taking on a lot of responsibilities on the instructional technology side and sash vasovsky who will

122be taking on a lot more of the operational technology size and leadership in those areas and a lot of this is in response to mr throne who you know held some of these responsibilities as our leader district leader in the areas of technology so very happy that uh both gary and sash are moving into those new capacities and also congratulations to dasha beasley we're moving into the high school as our new principal and brad bigelow who will be moving to the middle school as our middle school principal very excited about that um and then just a couple of other staffing updates uh seems like we're doing a lot of hiring and so tomorrow we will be we're beginning the process for interviews for our assistant principal at the high school and then next week we

123will be again interviews for clear lake principal so we're excited to get those processes started and we'll certainly keep the board informed and then to the item in hand uh as we discussed in is in your packet we have before you motion for uh consideration for the ospa um successor contract 22 to 25 success for contract so thank you would you like to put this motion on the floor [Applause] mary move to approve the 2022 through 2025 master agreement between oxford community schools and oxford educational support personnel association oespa as presented thank you is there support heather support discussion seeing none all those in favor say aye aye aye opposed motion carries thank you very much thank you dr pat thank you dr pass for your great work all right we're on number nine everyone

124uh safety uh and school operation uh jill lamont hi i just wanted to give you a quick update on our lighthouse connections academy the cyber charter school that we authorize they do have a new school leader hired just in may and so teresa woods is her name and she did prepare just a brief statement i was going to read to you teresa has over 25 years of experience serving children and families she's a child education advocate and an experienced administrator she says i believe that every child deserves to learn an environment that best serves their learning style and family needs i'm extremely honored to join the lighthouse connections academy team and build on the extraordinary work already in place so i just wanted you to know we do have a school leader who is new

125and is making some quick changes there and then at the next meeting i'll be asking you to extend the ela curriculum to the kindergarten level also at lighthouse connections academy it's just a recommendation for curriculum change which requires an amendment to our agreement with lighthouse so we do it every year and just update our curriculum this will be the third amendment to that agreement related to curriculum so just a heads up on that they have a pretty large projected enrollment for next fall and seem to be doing very well so and then for my request to purchase service i'm actually going to ask the new our new tech director as mr dr pass just mentioned sash is here he was going to speak to you about the service because he's much more knowledgeable about it

126than i so thank you welcome sash thank you um i'll probably be speaking to chad more here i know he's he's a the resident nerd he'll translate it to us yeah so um the software is by trend micro it's called vision one it's an xdr solution which stands for extended detection and response think of it as like an anti-virus software like symantec or kaspersky or something but on steroids those types of software's they'll find um you know executables that have certain file signatures signatures in them that would be malware and they would stomp them out at that level but this goes a lot a lot further beyond that there's an automated piece to it and so it does it takes it correlates all the data on the machine everything the machine's doing as well as

127has hooks into one drive google drive gmail exchange online and just monitors all those files sees what all those files are doing and ingest it into a cloud server and then we have the console called vision one where um it it uses an ai that takes all that data and then sees what these files are doing and then we'll it'll flag them create what's quote unquote workbenches so um you know if it sees an executable doing something it shouldn't by modifying registry keys or um you know capping data from one location to another replicating um it'll create an alert a workbench and then respond based on automated playbook plays i guess they're called that's something that i would set up it also detects unauthorized access to these accounts we actually spotted in the last two

128weeks those three student accounts were compromised from ip addresses they were being accessed by ip addresses across europe and africa automatically was able to reset those passwords get those kids you know accounts safe again um yeah there's there's a lot to it um it's it's also required by setseg for cyber insurance um so there's there's that piece um i don't know if there's any any questions you got oh yeah i thought it was i thought it was riveting that was this was riveting [Applause] what assets are actually being monitored are these just our on-prem no so i i have all the on-prem machines as well as all the intune managed devices which is all of ova everything the device yeah everything that we have ingested into intune so far and then our cloud resources like

129gmail sharepoint onedrive exchange online not yet we're in the migration process right now to migrate from on-prem to exchange online okay but that exchange online is is a supported apps configuration yeah and that that's super key because um when we get you know if someone reports a phishing email or spam or some you know they report it it gets brought up the chain to me and then i have to manually intervene at that point log into exchange run some powershell scripts remove um you know those emails from every exchange box that i gotta log into umbrella and block these urls um this and that takes time like if i'm not there to answer my email or a phone call then that's just you know more time where people can click on and compromise themselves but

130what this will do is um just slap it then it's tracks and remove the email you know right from the exchange servers it's essentially another um security analyst you know right so the i guess the follow-up question is so the cyber security discussion is something that's constantly evolving and with a product like this um i would expect that their definition files that are constantly being updated is that something that the vendor pushes or are we going to have to have no it's all it's automatic it's all done but it's all done behind the scenes okay yeah and they you know um mitre attacks uh are monitored and and the definitions are updated like instantly okay is there what level of assurance i guess does the vendor provide if if if there is an attack that

131gets through right if they're if their definitions aren't uh uploaded at the right at the right timing right is there any assurance from them um or maybe insurance from them that that there would be some way to recover what we've lost um i'm not i'm not sure about insurance um you know it's the recovery aspect of it as long as our backups are okay we're we're good and our backups are pretty rock solid at this point um you know it would it would essentially give us a a play-by-play of what happened if we were to have a breach and data was compromised without something like this we would have no idea how far um the breach went um this will at least give us that information now it'll keep us much more secure obviously um

132but you know just like just like any product it's not a hundred percent agreed yeah okay cool any follow-up questions thank you yeah do you see why i brought him yeah yes yes now we know what we have uh chad you do serve a purpose some now we're going to translate what you just did but that's all right um all right so does that take us to the motion all right so someone like to put this motion on the fourth place eric move to approve the move to approve to purchase the trend micro xdr solution from intercom tsg for the amount of thirty eight thousand three hundred and eighty five dollars is there support corey support discussion one last question but i knew it the i'm sorry the amount that we're we're looking at here

133is this is this an annual cost okay all right any other questions or comments all those in favor say aye aye opposed motion carriers safety update i have a lot of items tonight some exciting movement we've had not only our semi-annual safety meeting may 25th and had several people from different jurisdictions fire police the sheriff's department sheriff leadership were there village management and we had a pretty very productive meeting on may 25th and then that parent subcommittee did meet on june 1st which coincided with the evolved technology pilot at the high school that was not an accident they came up here and were able to see it in you know working and we had the actual evolve rep here showing them and answering their questions in real time so that was really neat so after

134bringing back their recommendations from both those groups to cabinet we do have some items to share with you that we're moving on this summer that will certainly be included in the three-year plan but i wanted to share sort of publicly here tonight and i'm just going to go down the list and i guess just stop me at the end for any questions so xerowise is already on 30 or so of our cameras at the high school that's the software program that i've brought to you before we are looking at extending that but certainly for the number of cameras now it is free for the next year and we are going to continue with that pilot we are going to enter into a one-year pilot with evolve it will be at three of our doors our

135normal three entrances the pool entrance and both of the front doors the pac door for busters and the other door the main north door that will be those will be single lanes instead of dual kiosks we learned that throughout our pilot that we did not require and it would require too much manpower for the dual kiosk we are moving forward and have moved forward on a black powder dog that is being trained in september and is coming to us a labrador to work with my mr rourke at the high school who will also be trained and has you know graciously offered to take on that role i think it's fantastic he knows our buildings and he knows our people and uh he's been an integral part of our return to school and it's going to

136be excellent to have him have that training we're going to continue with elementary school security and have an armed guard at each elementary school next school year we're going to continue with our third party ess in that capacity and also with the additional help at the high school right now we have three guards who are roaming and typically near the bathrooms for added security we're going to continue that next next school year we have some retired administrators who have come back to help us we're going to continue to utilize them as long as they'll they'll work with us either two or three in in the fall nightlock the company that makes our door locks has also offered to give us free safety shades and so our maintenance team has been making a lot of measurements

137for all the different side windows on the doors they're all different sizes throughout our district that work is nearly done we're just at the mercy of the materials coming in and there may be some costs for installation but the actual materials should be completely complementary i want to say thank you to nightlock for that the numbering placards we've already been in process with that and have recently touched base with the company is going to you know sort of pick up where they left off and numbering the interior of the of the buildings so that they all look uniform if you remember i came to you probably over a year ago i believe it was in the middle of covet and we were having a hard time ordering the placards seems like we've got some movement

138and we're going to keep continue that work this summer tony sarkins has been integral in that just so you know he's been fantastic the mass notification system we've already talked to you about tonight and then one other item that i just learned of this morning that i really want to celebrate a long time ago we talked well before covet about becoming my heart safe schools through project adam we earned that designation today at all of our elementary schools our virtual academy lab the middle school and the high school are officially my heart safe schools because of the number of aeds we have the types of training that we provide our staff the number of staff who are cpr and aed certified and how close people are to those machines throughout the building they actually have

139to check how you know how far away that anyone would be during a medical emergency from an aed i really want to give a special thank you to oxford fire department's lieutenant snell he actually came in and ran the drills at each of our schools and helped walk our staff through the appropriate response that was absolutely amazing and really helped us to earn these designations and i believe that's all i have tonight fantastic thank you fantastic anybody have any comments or questions before she leaves the podium oh heather so what are you planning on doing in the fall for the backpack situation are you um are we doing clear backpacks are are we it was the recommendation of both committees that we not continue to use them from a safety perspective but looking at the

140student data before we had evolve in place it was something around 63 percent of students that they wanted to continue using them and since there's no negative effect i think right now we're leaning towards continuing but we haven't made a decision yet to be honest um we're not seeing that there's any negative impact and so okay yeah if it makes students feel safer i don't see it as a harmful thing anything else okay thank you fantastic work all right we move on to unscheduled audience participation um do you have any more cards over there if anyone needs to fill out a card who hasn't they're on the corners of the rail back there but you did give me a few you have no more so these are the this is it right now okay all

141right very good um [Applause] darren mclennan [Applause] oh sorry um as we know you're good stay there just uh just little primer the timer um mary has a little mechanism that hits that we hit it at four minutes and then we hit it again at five and then that kind of helps you judge your time if you once you see it the first time you know you got one minute left and that's going to hit again sorry about that darren but go ahead all right thanks again for letting me speak um [Applause] recently it recently has come to my attention by the way great work for a lot of people within the school district i mean a lot of things i heard tonight a lot of people i know are are working extremely hard and

142there's a lot of great improvements going on recently it has come to my attention that nine-year-old fifth graders were allowed to select transgender as their exhibition project specifically a few months ago at oes in clear lake and last year at leonard i simply come here tonight to ask was our superintendent and school board aware of this do teachers or principals have unilateral authority with respect to their student curriculum is and third is this an acceptable topic to this board if acceptable or the board has no control over what's presented in their classrooms via by other students in this in these scenarios nine-year-olds and i'd have to ask what authority exactly does dually elected school members have school board members have it seems to me the state and county have the most control as they sadly

143control the purse strings if allowed to continue what's off limits if a few families feel it's their right to have their child present about transgender can others present about god can others present on being heterosexual or homosexual can others present on combat atrocities can others present on swingers can others present on dominatrix can others present in mormonism i could go on the list and list and list the decision on this is determined by those in power so i would ask who is in power there was a time out of respect for others that most simply knew what was inappropriate or off limits in a classroom setting you see when i went through school we were taught reading writing arithmetic history civics with music shop class language and physical education all bonuses in high school we

144literally had one or two hours of sex education in my senior year [Applause] our school days weren't entrenched with the worries of being expelled for not wearing a worthless mask that our parents would lose their jobs for refusing to get an experimental debunked injection or being indoctrinated into confusing and controversial radical leftist gender identity sexual orientation and hate-based critical race theory getting back to transgender which is why i'm here having directly supervised the us military's most senior transgender i know a little bit about this topic if someone undergoes transgender surgery that's their decision and they afford all freedoms that non-transgenders do under the constitute constitution if you continue to allow topics of this nature under the under the guise of equity or equality to be presented to our children especially without parents knowledge or consent

145mental health will surpass education at this as this district's priority well into the future i no longer have any skin in this game but i'm highly concerned for this community my friends loved ones and those that have limited options when it comes to choosing between public private or homeschooling alternatives and or options [Applause] and then let the last thing i had was i i overheard about something went forward tonight on and i'm sorry about students 22 23 i think when they sign when they come in when they register they've signed papers it is am i fair to say they have signed papers saying that they vow to store their guns correctly within their households is that is that fair to say they have signed paper documentation or am i totally off base i i think

146the latter part of that resolution did state that included in the handbook that they acknowledge reading this document okay okay god i would just say law abiding on earth i'll just say lo and law-abiding gun owners do not commit crime do not commit murder do not commit mass shootings thieves criminals and killers are not law-abiding citizens demons evil and could care less about our laws or documentations in a handbook they could care less we could do all the laws that we want for law by gun citizens it's not going to change a thing all right thank you very much thank you sir thanks a lot appreciate it [Applause] jennifer prather ah thank you [Applause] yes my name is jennifer prather and i live in the village of oxford i'm here and i forgive me i

147did have to change a little bit of the wording on this because i thought i was going to be talking before you passed your motion for a secure storage so i am so forever grateful on that pass but i'm here tonight to thank the school board for passing a secure storage resolution securely storing firearms is one of the easiest way to keep children safe and i know that one thing we can all agree on is that we all want children to be safe happy and healthy 110 people die in our country each day in a firearm related death you may be surprised to learn that gun deaths are now the leading cause of death for children 17 years and younger and although school shootings grab the national headlines far more people are injured annually in

148gun deaths by suicide and unintentional shootings as we all know teenagers can have good days and they can have bad days and if they have access to a firearm they may make a bad decision that they can't undo and toddlers or young children who happen upon a firearm may unintentionally kill themselves or someone else we can all make a difference we can educate our community on the necessity of securely storing weapons words are powerful and they can save lives so please tell your families tell your friends and commit to asking about unsecured weapons during play dates and get togethers thank you again for taking this important step in caring for the children in our community i truly appreciate all that you are doing to keep our children safe and just done a little side note

149my son was one of the clear backpacks please forever so i'm gonna just end with that so anyway thank you so much for everything that you're doing and i really appreciate it and if anybody ever wants to know more about the be safe educational campaign to teach people about securely storing their weapons and how to spread the word i'm happy to talk to anybody so thank you so much thank [Applause] you reina [Applause] hi um i'm here today to inquire on the status of the resolution on creating a temporary memorial that was passed during the may 17th meeting which was almost a month ago in three days i haven't seen any visible progress that i haven't seen any visible progress and i have heard indications that it may be on hold i am asking for

150this to be added to the agenda to have an update for the next board meeting on june 21st in addition it was just stated that the topic of when the four families will be involved in the discussion of the permanent memorial is still on the table my family has asked to be part of the discussion of the permanent memorial from the beginning it doesn't make sense for us to only have our input taken into account at the end of the discussion sorry especially for a permanent memorial that is for our family member also i was promised in january and in march that would be part of the committee um that was supposed to be created spring slash summer which you are creating right now so i would like you to take you all take this

151all into consideration thank you hold on i want to make sure i understand the last one [Music] when you're when you're speaking of that you you want to be involved that's in the permanent um memorial that you you felt that you were told you would be on the committee that you would like to be on that committee is what you're saying in your last statement yes okay thank you i just want to make sure i got that right yes thank you so much [Applause] anna [Applause] she shouldn't have to come to a party uh it's anna anna yeah anyways uh hello i wanted to address something that has not sat right with me since the meeting on march 17th at the end may 17th sorry about that um which was a comment made by the

152board meeting we had to sit there and get bashed by everyone of these kids disrespectful as they were was said by one of the board meetings members now we have all been taught think before you speak which is why every time a kid has come up here begging to be heard we try to do our best to be respectful despite all our anger and frustration yet this is labeled as bashing and disrespectful now that now if that is bashing and disrespectful i want to know what what's correlating hannah justin tate and madison smile to what will drive someone to harm themselves would be considerable considered screaming if we put pictures up and it's a trigger to that girl and she does something to herself are they all okay with one more life two more lives

153comments like these can be seen as disrespectful by simplifying suicide down to seeing a picture being the cause for someone taking their life i don't think that this is what any of our mental health professionals you spoke with were teaching the reason why some kids cannot walk through or even enter the building is not because of hana smile justin's smile tate smile and madison smile it's because oxford high school is the place where a shooting happened please refrain from making general statements thank you [Applause] thank you very much um is that it none of this no no none others came to you all right thank you for that input um [Applause] we're on to number 11 scheduled activities um school board meeting uh next tuesday 6 30 here in this room okay can we make
