okay thank you welcome to our september 6th um regular board of education meeting first up we are going to call up our our star students uh so welcome back everyone uh we are picking up on a tradition we started last year where we recognize one of our students at the board meetings and allow them to lead us in the pledge of allegiance today we're starting with lyons elementary i think we've got mrs wiese and miss heath here and i saw dr heilberg here earlier uh they they have nominated a wonder wonderful fifth grade uh student uh maddox schaefer so maddox why don't you come on up here [Applause] so uh the staff kind of reports to me maddox that you're a one-of-a-kind student and a person you really should be recognized for all that you

do when we talk about belonging and we belong they say that you create that that type of environment for your peers and your classmates your hard-working student who's a leader in the classroom and helps others to feel included last year maddox served as one of our student council representatives and it took the responsibility very seriously he brings a positive attitude in the classroom each day and is a wonderful member of the lion school and barrington 220. so once again please help join me in congratulating maddox schaefer [Applause] all right mattis you're ready to go would you like to invite everybody to stand all right okay whenever you're ready from the united states of america and to the republic for which it stands one nation under god indivisible with liberty and justice for all all right

maddox we're going to come to the picture with you real quick all right ready one two three [Applause] thank you great way to start meetings glad to have that back so first up actually we have a hearing a public hearing that we wanted to do i hear it as soon as possible to start a meeting so do we have um a motion to go into our public hearing for the 2022-23 tentative budget so moved second yes katie karam yes erin chan ding yes sandra bradford yes steve wang yes angela wilcox yes okay did we have anybody um asked to speak for this portion okay so do we have a motion oh you want to talk i would just only mention to the to the board and our community that we do have uh attached to

the uh public hearing agenda item uh the draft draft attended budget and some information that includes information on fund balances and cash balances on hand as of the end of the year on a pre-audit basis so that information is available there and the budget continues to be available for public inspection up until the board considers it at the next board meeting for final adoption report any questions okay do we have a motion to close the hearing so moved second roll call leah callister lazari yes angela wilcox yes erin chanding yes sandra bradford yes katie karam steve wang yes okay the hearing is closed uh so next up we have our barrington high school representative so olivia would you please give us your report yes hello my name is olivia falflay i'm a junior at barrington

high school and i am the student council school board liaison and i'm here to report from a student point of view from the high school first up is sports and clubs fall sports are kicking into gear this fall they include boys soccer girls and boys golf girls volleyball boys football girls tennis swim and dive and cross country also there is an activity fair in the lunchroom this friday to get kids involved in clubs with vhs i would also like to talk about life wall classes in session as we may know bhs has cracked down on security including having a pass to leave a corridor doors being locked at all times and strict bathroom rules although can get annoying having to open up the door for people constantly entering and exiting the room personally i believe

this is a good decision as safety should be the number one concern at school next i'd like to talk about traffic with construction on the roads leading up to the high school in particular lake cook road and main street traffic before and after school is bad especially today this causes congestion and standstill traffic near the school but i also want to add the construction at the school itself like heart road fod in the front of the school doesn't cause much traffic issues and it hasn't um this year lastly i wanted to propose the idea of opening back up the quiet commons in the in the high school i think students would appreciate having a quiet place to study as well as additional seating in general that's all i have today thank you awesome thank you

any questions for olivia welcome again thank you thank you very much okay so next up is my you're welcome to stay but we understand if you've got to go but you're more than welcome to stay we love we love having you here um next up is my report i've got a couple things um just uh congratulations and thanks again to the staff and to the teachers for um opening and celebrating our first day of school here in barrington 220. um i wanted to give a little bit of an update on the board workshop again that we held at the uh last last month um tonight on our agendas to confirm our priorities for this year as as well as confirming our protocols hopefully we'll we'll get through all of that um also introduce introduced tonight

is our board meeting brochure some of you may have seen it on your chairs it includes the public comment etiquette that we talked about last meeting as well as other board meeting information so it's a great handy pamphlet for anyone um let's see and also on our agenda tonight is we're changing the um schedule for our board meetings as we talked about last meeting um to include another committee of the whole meeting in october so you'll see that on our agenda later as well and then the last thing that the board um wanted to to do this this fall is to um try to get together for dinner without talking about school of course because we can't violate the opening sex so janine if you could start a poll for us to see when we

might all be free for a dinner or a lunch in october november and see if we can't get that on on our calendars one kind of sad thing to report is that we do have to make a change to our board email unfortunately we've run into some issues with freedom of information acts and searches and we've had that common email address board at 220 barrington 220.org and we're going to have to stop using it because it makes it difficult and unfortunately we can't do a reply all right to say that it's no longer in service so dr phil i'm going to put you on the spot for a minute here and say what message will people receive if they do email board at barrington220.org after which after we flip after we make the change the

address will no longer exist so they'll get uh they'll get a message that that address doesn't exist thank you i want to repeat that please so sure the address will not exist so whoever tries to send an email to that address they'll get an email back pretty much immediately saying that it no longer exists it'll go back to all the individual board members addresses will appear and you'll be sending messages to each individual board member so we'll have on the website we'll have that email removed and then it'll give give them when they click on that link it'll include all addresses as it did before that is correct so we made it about what 11 months we didn't have any problems until until we had a problem so yeah now we know that we need

to correct it so please make note of that and and samantha if we can include that in our email that would be good that goes out um i also wanted to make sure everybody was aware of upcoming legislative breakfast that's hosted by bakehog the chamber of commerce and barrington 220 on tuesday october 11th our confirmed speakers include senate minority leader dan mcconkey marty mclaughlin who's here tonight and chris bose so let me know if you are planning to attend and um the other thing we need to make sure we let janine know about is the join us for java flyer that's gone out right we need to know how many board members are going to be attending each of these um coffees so please get um to janine and let her know when you plan

to attend so we can ensure that we adhere to those meetings act is there an email ad on that right now there has been an email that went out to the district on this okay i believe went to the whole district right there yeah but the dates are all right to respond okay and that is all i have to report so we will move to public comment we have um under 20 speakers so we'll have three minutes so we've come to the time in our meeting we set aside for public comments we value your thoughts and opinions and we will ensure all voices are respected and heard in accordance with our board equity statement that states that we quote recognize embrace and defend the identities abilities and voices of our diverse school community end quote

the board has agreed to the following rules for public comment for which i'm charged to enforce number one address the board only at the time of appropriate time is indicated on the agenda including following the directives of the board president to main maintain order and decorum for all two use the sign in sheet three identify oneselves and be brief state your name your elementary attendance area or relationship to the district before you begin your comments time cannot be yielded to another person be attentive and listen for your name conduct oneself with respect and civility towards others and otherwise abide by board policy 830 visitors too and conduct on school property address issues and do not attack people do not delay or impede public comment or the work of the board instead of repeating comments already

represented consider standing and showing your support and as board president i'm responsible for ensuring that we maintain order we're able to get through the business of the board of education and last rule if the public is disruptive i will call a break during the meeting which we will leave the room together and the disruptive individuals will be asked to leave the meeting prior to the board reconvening the board is committed to the open meetings act and will not be violating it during the break this is a board meeting that occurs in public this is not a public meeting public comment is not a conversation and does not necessarily reflect the views of the board if any comments require further attention we will ask dr hunt to follow up and report back to the board so

with that i would like to invite marty mclaughlin to come up good evening my name is mark mclaughlin i'm here as a parent this evening in that capacity um i live in barrington hills and have four children have gone through district 220 i've got a current high school sophomore we've chosen to live in barrington as many of you have because we've been a leader in academic performance and excellence here for many years in the past four to six years i've been astonished at the level of outside influence that has impacted our board the level uh has been something that i'm not accustomed to nor have i seen it's had an impact on our policies and curricula all with the blessing and or tacit approval from the majority of this and or prior school boards and

the results have not been good um letters and requests by local blogs and special interest groups arrive in all of our mailboxes on a daily basis pushing narrow agendas and believe me i get it i've served as an unpaid volunteer elected official for eight years while in barrington hills i can't tell you how many times i had to disregard special interest agendas allowing non-profits out of new york and dc lobbyists and unelected social justice and cultural change agents to have an impact on our children's education and development is what we expect all of you to protect against as a community member i'd like to see the old three r's come back it's not very popular but reading writing and arithmetic is what we should be focusing on at the school today unfortunately our children children

are being taught in a new three r's which is radicalization revisionist history and racial divide and it needs to stop as for the academic performance recent numbers have just come out on district 220 in mathematics and reading and the failure rate has increased over 20 percent since 2019 a direct result of policies that kept our children remote and kept them out of the classrooms the use of our public education system are misused to go forward and mandate moral and sociological standards is just wrong there are places for these discussions to occur but it's not in the chemistry class it's not in the math class or in the pe classes and it certainly shouldn't be presented to minor children particularly those in lower grade levels we all agree it's not appropriate in public schools to discuss

or push religious belief upon others however i'm absolutely amazed that it's not equally as inappropriate to discuss political meanings discuss agent appropriate materials to minor children finally as it relates to public safety i grew up when public safety meant putting mulch under the monkey bars at the playground adding padded seats on the bus and make sure the physical harm didn't occur to children never in my wildest imagination did i believe that under the guise of public safety as a parent that my parental rights and responsibility would be taken away by elected or appointed officials when it comes to the best decisions on behalf of my child health decisions cultural or social guidance decision morality decisions traditional curriculum or agent-appropriate content as a parent i ask that we please begin to focus once again on what's

most important and why we move to this community academic excellence and academic performance we certainly have all paid a high price for it in our property taxes i thank you all for your dedicated service and for allowing me to speak this evening thank you thank you [Applause] jerry ewell [Applause] all right i thought you skipped me for a second all right so jerry ewald i have um four that's either either in the school or have graduated in the barrington school district and i know you guys are all super busy like i am and i try to simplify my life and people ask like what are your priorities i say three things i say god number one family number two and community number three i think that's that helps me keep things straight because there's so

much going on and when i think of god i really spent a lot of time really trying to understand what is it that god is looking for most and i think we all do that right so i've spent 10 years in seminary and i'm an ordained pastor right not not it's it's not me trying to tell you that uh i've done more than other people it's just something that i care deeply about right so god number one family number two um i've been married for 22 years my lovely wife heather which i know you guys heard her speak before and i have four kids and those four kids are a gift right they're a gift from god and um we're borrowing them we have to give them back at some point right and that's kind

of how i view it and but we're we've been entrusted with those kids and i want to make sure that we we all understand um how important that is and then they belong to god right and then the third is country i love my country and i know you guys do too um and we uh that is also a gift from god and we want to live in freedom we all want to be be free and i think you know people ask well what is freedom and freedom is you could do what you want as long as you're not hurting someone right so how do you make sure you're not hurting someone you want to make sure you have just laws right just laws are really important that you don't harm someone and when we

think about just laws we think of things like don't steal don't lie don't murder make sure you respect authority you know things like that and if it sounds familiar it's because it is it's based on it's based on the bible right judeo-christian values right now i bet that all of you would have pretty much the same priorities and i know that for a couple of reasons right because you live here your citizens united states you have a family or at least you care deeply about the family because you're here on the school board and then third i'll say you probably are a christian because 85 percent of our country is christian now if you're not that's okay as well but i'm just giving you stats 85 of our country is christian right so when i

when i try to bring all three of those together i reflect on that and i wonder i still have to question why do we allow pornography in our schools and i know this has been debated for a long time it's just something that can't go away because it harms our children right so when i think of those three things there are obscenity laws in the united states and again those are put in place so that we don't harm our children right because at the end of the day pornography does nothing but harm there's not one good thing that can come out of that you can't justify in any possible way so it is harming our children so again i've been here before asking guys i implore you guys please think about what you're doing you

have the ability to reverse this we all have to stand before god at one point we'll all be judged and we have to make an account for what we've done so jerry thank you all right gina williams hello my name is gina williams i'm the parent of three children in d220 and i'm actually reading a letter on another parent's behalf this evening my name is kristen stedman and i have three children who attend and attended barrington schools and i graduated bhs in 2000. i'm unable to attend tonight's meeting and have entrusted gina to read this letter on my behalf my senior this year is openly transgender most would think a mother of a transgender child would be in favor of the books being introduced to the library about the lgbtq community but i am not

my first concern with having these books available would be the safety of the child who is seen reading them by other peers i know it's plastered everywhere that 220 has a strict no bullying policy but if that were true my senior would have been able to finish their last year at bhs instead they attend a therapeutic day school two towns away because bhs can no longer ensure their safety there were at least three incidents every week since middle school where another child said or did something vile to my child the final straw was on march 16th when my child and their partner were walking into the front entrance of bhs and another group of children opened fire on them with an airsoft pellet gun filled with frozen water beads they were two of only three

children hit that day and we believe they were targeted because they were transgender i can't even begin to think of the horrible things some kids in this district would do to another child seen reading these books my second issue is the graphic nature of the books genderqueer flamer and this book is gay they contain nc 17 content point blank and symbol they're not for children with all the support my family receives from doctors therapists social workers and staff at the day school none of these books have been recommended the narrative promoting these books is about helping kids who don't have support at home or who don't think they can talk to their parents if a child already feels like this how are books with illustrations of teenage boys performing oral sex supposed to bridge that

gap it's appalling chances are if your child is transgender they've had mental health issues before coming out such as depression anxiety body dysmorphia eating disorders self-harm and the like by that point there's already a very open line of communication with their parents and they have the professionals to help navigate their feelings these books also depict the lgbtq community in a bad light they add to the stigma and just make it about sex our sexual preference is only one small part of our human identity these books make identity all about sex this isn't what i'm sending my kids to school to learn about it's also not the school's place to teach them about it instead of controversial books i'd like to see more mental health intervention resources that's where this needs to start if the school

district insists on adding lgbtq reading material to the libraries they should consult with family patients from the kids and parents who've already gone through it and see what helped them not just pick something off the internet that made a best sellers list i respectfully request the board reconsider its vote to allow genderqueer and the libraries and request the board not allow the books flamer and this book is gay i will gladly volunteer my time to help find appropriate books to help our kids thank you for your time kristen stedman thank you gina margaret dalstrom [Applause] charlene clary hi i'm charlie mcclary my wife marcia and i have five kids in the district and uh i'm a business owner and we operate our company globally and we deal with people all over the world we're seeing

similar things and hearing similar things from people in other states and other countries and i it's interesting i have a customer who's a large national brand and they're much more liberal than i am and they live in sausalito california and they're appalled by the stuff that's happening there and primarily my biggest concern is the sexually explicit information that our kids are exposed to and i was informed that right now it's been agreed to that there's no opt-in for that that it's just it's available for our kids which is completely unacceptable i mean it's something that i as a as a father and a business owner i i don't spend a lot of time on these things admittedly my my wife does and my peers in the in the community are outraged and it's it's it's

a strange event for me to be here tonight talking about these things but the movement is is strong and there's a lot of resources going to be put behind doing whatever we have to do to change the board change the leadership do whatever we got to do to get this school back with some you know moral and ethics so that's all i have to say i mean marcia marsha mccleary mama 5 we're in the countryside area i'm just giving you an update so we're super excited the students appear very engaged and back to school normally it seems really um to be a good start for the year um i did send you guys an email so this is a summary uh public comment of the email just to reconfirm you've received it it's about the

sexually explicit not only physical books ebooks and audio books just to be clear that are mostly available on the school ipads as well so even if the kids don't go to the physical library they are available a lot of these materials on the ebooks format so they can get them at any time if it's in their library portfolio the petition we had now has over 1900 signatures that you guys have mean had a list of books on there including the one reviewed last week and the two upcoming as well as some others again this is a matter of adult and sexually explicit content it is not about certain groups of students and i i need everybody to understand that it is not i agree these types of reviews are very time consuming i hear that

too but i think the idea is to fix the process and then not have to have these reviews i mean can you imagine how long it's taking everybody to read all these books can you imagine and this idea of having an opt-out book by book parent by parent is completely unacceptable it's not a solution that's acceptable it has to be an opt-in if that's the compromise and opt-in to the adult content for the parents that are okay with their kids opting in that's the only compromise i see can you imagine somebody who doesn't speak english a parent trying to read through these books one by one by one how is that realistic at all i don't think that's going to work for people and i did hear that at last week's meeting so our community

will not accept that compromise and right now i'm the vote of four to two was interesting last week it left genderqueer at bhs completely unrestricted as well as in ebook format right now and you had a choice to vote restricted two of you commented such that you thought parents should have the right to make those decisions but yet your vote did not reflect your comments so i took issue with that the actual vote if it was based on the comments would have been to restrict that book now we've also found some additional books the one i found was called empire of storms located unrestricted at prairie and vhs this very this book is very sexually explicit in addition to the others listed in the petition i look forward to hearing about a parental opt in

process or other restriction that does not require parents to go through books one by one by one thank you very much thank you marcia evening paul read nikki uh two kids in the district one in the high school and and one at countryside um i i would uh for lack of a better term rise in opposition to the voices you've heard this evening those books that have been under debate absolutely belong on the school shelves um we've talked a lot about you know that they're obscene or they're pornographic and to quote justice potter stewart in 1964 i know it when i see it the bad news is as ms wilcox reminded us a few meetings ago is that the definitions matter and so if you look at the definition of pornography or the definition of

obscenity or you look at the miller test that the supreme court's laid out these books don't i want to say i just have to meet or violate the standard but they fail the miller test for a point where they would be deemed obscene or pornographic so in that in that light these books should should remain on the shelf for students to access them um the idea of an opt in system for me does not work um especially if you have a child who cannot talk to their parents we talked about this in my comments last meeting if you have a child who needs to find this literature and they can't or they're restricted from it by their parents then that's a problem right there's a lot of misinformation out there in the world kids can

find a lot on the internet they have access to their ipads their cell phones computers you know one of the best places for a kid to explore literature might be the well-curated shelves of their high school library be them physical or digital so i would encourage the board to leave the freedom to read intact to leave students with access to the materials that they find interesting to them that they may need to read and that's where i stand on it so i just wanted to come and let you know that i think that there's a spot for these books there's a role for these books it may not be everybody's cup of tea they may not be books that i would recommend to to anybody in particular but that's not me to judge or restrict

somebody else's preferences so i've heard a lot about liberty i've heard a lot about freedom keep the freedom to read thank you hello my name's stephanie walker i'm a bhs grad i graduated in 93. i have two kids in the district one at prairie one at rosslyn and we recently moved back to barrington in 2020 in november we were 15 years in l.a my kids started their education in the los angeles school district i was a little nervous coming back to barrington i'll be honest because i was worried that the lack of diversity that i experienced as a kid would and the very conservative thinking would be a drastic change for them having been in a wide world with lots of different points of view and accessibility to a lot of materials so i was

so happy to see all these conversations that have come up the belonging campaign the leaning in all of the inclusion edi i'm just so proud of the district for really taking that on and opening up places for kids who feel marginalized and that includes this literature i'm a writer i'm a playwright and a screenwriter and i am so i will never stand behind limiting reading or accessibility to any kind of literature of any kind for me it is a violation of the first amendment rights it ends up diminishing a kid's ability to be critical thinkers and for me my child is a really voracious reader and read 15 novels last year i never restrict what he reads that's my personal choice and that's him i trust him to read what he wants to read but

beyond that i trust the district and the measures that you have in place to vet books and i trust the librarians so for me i just i think this accessibility is incredibly important because when books are banned who they harm more than anything are the people that they were written for so in these books that we're talking about flamer uh this book is gay those the banning of those books would be harming the kids that they were intended for and that is extremely concerning to me so anyway i just wanted to say that i my support is in as the previous speaker said keeping the freedom for these kids to be able to read and keeping the books in the in the libraries so thank you and thank you for the work that you're doing

in the diversity equity and inclusion i think it's extremely important and i'm really proud to see it happening thank you thank you stephanie all right that concludes public comment next up dr hunt is your report thank you well we're bringing that up real quick we do have a rule that we allow elected officials to speak first so jerry you were wondering if i skipped you i did in order for marty mclaughlin to go first so that's a rule that we do have okay thank you um and uh i just wanted to make a few comments this evening uh first of all uh as a follow-up to our last board meeting the board did ask us to look at selection criteria uh based on some of the legal feedback that we have we're working through that

process now and we'll have something back to the board um here i would think in the first week meeting in october is what we're targeting just want to thank our entire staff administrative teaching support services on a very smooth opening to school there was a significant amount of construction taking place as you know you had to run around all these ribbon cuttings as we opened school and that cannot be done without a tremendous amount of flexibility and it's an exciting time as we we look at how space can support education but we also realize that as we're going through this there's a little discomfort along the way so we thank our staff we thank our our parents and our students as well i've really enjoyed getting out in the buildings walking around going through some

of the middle schools seeing the garage doors up and students you know collaborating in groups really leveraging the space and and very quickly making it become the space that you've talked about over the last two or three years in terms of how it can impact learning so i just want to commend the staff for for that work and just i guess we'll continue to ask for your patience as we move forward with our construction project i do want to address transportation a little bit i think every year as we open school transportation is something that we work through the tank kinks over the first couple of weeks and efficiencies of routes and sometimes what you put in a computer doesn't relate to uh kind of current conditions and we're really um struggling in this area

just to be uh frank with you because we've got a lot of things that are playing against us in in terms of uh our ability to offer offer transportation in a way that we typically like to obviously you've seen a little bit of construction going on there's the the heart road in lake cook i want to commend the high school administration working with the barrington police department with barrington transportation center and even some of our local businesses and government agencies with these remote sites to drop off kids they've done a great job in minimizing the impact there it's taken a lot of effort and collaboration over the summer to prepare and make that uh successful the reality is we are dealing with a and we continue to deal with a bus driver shortage uh we've

had to combine routes that normally that you know dr bain and his team would like to potentially split but we're just in a position where staffing is an issue we encourage anyone to share that message and if there's people that are interested in potentially pursuing this we we encourage you to reach out to us or reach out to barrington transportation as we as we move through this obviously that creates a level of frustration with our parents unfortunately sometimes our drivers are on the receiving end of that which only kind of perpetuates a problem uh with staffing and our ability to get drivers in place so we just appreciate everyone's understanding with this as we look for opportunities to make changes as we proceed throughout the school year i know there always analyzing routes and always

trying to improve what we offer to the end users so that's you on the receiving end so we are experiencing longer routes than we typically like to but we do have kind of parameters in which we're operating under uh that normally exists uh in terms of what we can provide and we we had those conversations with our board of education when we were talking about you know the transportation contract and what we'd like to offer but we also have a very complex system coming from someone from the outside when you look at 72 square miles with all of these unique programs they're so good for kids it just creates a a great challenge on the transportation fund so we just appreciate kind of patience uh understanding and we're committed to continually uh evaluating to try

to improve this for our students we have to and we're forced to kind of operate within consistency and with within the parameters and apply those throughout the district and sometimes that doesn't meet a personal need but the reality is it allows us to the best we can offer you know transportation to our students so i just wanted to hit on transportation as well and and just thank our staff thank our drivers and encourage anyone that is looking for a career change potentially to look at potentially building our pool of candidates on the drivers front uh we did have a very successful opening i appreciate board members that were able to attend uh our opening with staff where we discussed and talked about our theme for this year which is really built around belonging had a

little bit of fun there in terms of the opening day message but we're also really able to kind of lay out the structure and the framework for our continuous improvement efforts for the school district some of which we'll talk about about tonight but it was very well received by our staff i appreciate the board members that were there and we have really rolled out this theme of trying to create or continue to create and enhance a sense of belonging within our staff and our students and when you roll a theme out you often wonder where is it going to go i'm just really impressed with our administrators their creativity how they're integrating it in into the buildings and it's really just about i use the comment that culture will eat strategy for lunch all the

time and it's really creating a culture where students feel safe and welcome and a sense of belonging when they come to school every day and enhancing and building upon what already exists in barrington 220. so i appreciate all the work in that up front i will tell you that barrington this year joined the family action network and it's an organization consisting of about 70 school districts and community or organizations in in greater chicago area it's a non-profit organization that really curates high quality speakers and allows access for our staff and our community to kind of grow you know individually personally and professionally uh in in the past these events can be in person or online and there's been some pretty significant speakers that have been brought in by fan over time there's susan kane adam

grant daniel pink these are the types of individuals that have come forward and we're really excited to be a part of this i wanted to bring to your attention their first offering we just found out about this yesterday i think it was with dr fuller attending their meeting that it is built around the theme of belonging and and i i'd love to say we planned that it was meant to be uh but coincidentally we've got an expert uh from uh uh the uh stanford university and building this sense of belonging so we will push this out to our parents and our staff and hope and encourage you to participate in that as we all can build you know the sense of community whether it's in schools or out in our community for our young people

so certainly encourage you to get involved in that then i also want to we've talked with the board of education about providing different opportunities for our community to engage with us and talk about our schools and the direction of our schools and one of the things that we discussed was just creating informal settings where people can come and they can ask questions about the school district and things that are happening provides me an opportunity to provide an update as well as just do a lot of listening along the way so we've spread out these uh community coffees and conversations i can only tell you some of the names that were thrown around in terms of what we're going to name this but it's joining us for java is where we landed on and just encourage

our community to check their schedules and would love to to interact in this way so it's again there's no set agenda provide probably a very brief update at the beginning of the coffee and then really answer questions or interact with our community so encourage our community to get involved with that board members are welcome i just would like to ask you to please respond to mrs stark so we know numbers wise who's going to attend which coffees but very excited about this opportunity to engage with the community and then lastly i want to congratulate samantha and annie who have received again an inspira communications award and this was specific to the work that was done with build 220 and all of the communications and graphics so they are being recognized for those efforts uh at

a luncheon and it just really says a lot about the quality of their their work and what they do on a regular basis so congratulations to you samantha and that would conclude my report happy to answer any questions questions i just have a comment you were awesome at the opener it was so fun i don't think it was a dry eye in the house but we weren't even laughing at you although how many people panicked when the list of 30 objectives went on like oh my god what's he doing that was really awesome that's great thank you um i know olivia left but maybe i'm putting you on a spot is there a reason i'm sure there's a reason the quiet comments are closed yes they be reopening um it has to use my outside

voice it has everything to do with supervision of students the quiet commons is in a back portion of the building and there are a ton of different crossroads for students to be able to get to parts of the building and disrupt the educational environment last year we did have it open the first part of this of the school year and we ran into significant disruptions where students were standing outside of classroom doors in stairwells where they shouldn't have been it's strictly a supervision issue our supervision capital is used in other parts of the building that that's the reason why when we get through the renovation that will be addressed with um creating different spaces so that we can reopen the quiet commons during orry quiet common-esque area during the school day but it's strictly a

supervision and um we just don't we can't use those resources from somewhere else to be able to open it up so let's fire their place students can go that's quiet the library the commons itself outside of lunch periods is um pretty welcoming outside right now there there are a number of spaces that students can use i would i would sit here and tell you that the quiet commons during lunch periods when it was supposed to be quiet was not all that quiet to begin with so ultimately what it is it's another space for students to sit in totally understand that but the the the disruptions we had in particular the east wing based on it just kind of counteracted the whole um positive side of it we are looking at some opportunities we'll we'll see

but for right now um this is this is what what we need to do to just make sure we keep our environment good thank you good question the ribbon cuttings were so exciting to see the new spaces i was wondering if you know once the staff and the students are settled down in a few months is it possible to maybe do something similar to what we did in the spring for board members who are interested to maybe like tour those new spaces with like students using the facilities and the furniture and just kind of see it in action potentially that'd be great great idea yeah we'll work on setting that up that'd be great okay how about informational reports we've got our foia report as well as the day six report did you want to

talk to the day six report at all i would just say attendance is up in the school district a whopping 24 students right now so this just reflects current attendance thank you the board will get us a day six and then the 30-day report on attendance as well so we'll we'll tr track that and provide that for the board of education uh specific i know i got one question from a board member regarding special education students were actually down it looks like any other questions or comments on those two reports okay how about board committees i know finance met today do you guys have any updates yes finance has a busy meeting lots of good things going on so a couple of things the audit is underway it's been going well this is the time

of year when we discuss whether we're going to transfer surplus funds into the capital projects fund the committee discussed the recommendation of the administration to transfer 2.4 million dollars into capital projects in the past we've a couple of times we've transferred money into capital projects the committee also discussed the possibility of an abatement so after talking it through we're recommending that a transfer resolution resolution be put on the next board agenda and that during the consideration of that recommendation we can have a board discussion of the amount to transfer the possib or also the possibility of an abatement so there i know there's we discuss a little in finance there's a wish list of of projects and there always are you know and what those projects are so that was where we landed with that

okay i'm assuming if we have a discussion on abatement you'll give us an estimation of what a typically a 500 000 home or something like that would would receive yeah i think uh just kind of supplement what leah said um i mean we didn't necessarily have a robust conversation it was more of just a process by which we could establish an abatement um you know as lea pointed out dr bine in the administration's recommendation is to transfer 2.4 million dollars to our capital projects fund um and uh my hope was that we could also consider again either an abatement of the full 2.4 million or some somewhere in between if need be because we want to do because we do want to place some funds in the capital project bucket uh what i will note

and doctor hunter excuse me dr being keeping me honest here because i know you were giving me rough numbers but i believe you know after encumbrance or incumbent dollars are spent as it relates to the referendum we'd have approximately 8.5 million dollars or so yeah give or take approximately uh in the capital fund so that in effect would be money that we could utilize in the event that we have an emergency spend that we need to make and then furthermore we still have approximately 29 well excuse me let me rephrase after this audit is closed we will have about a 29.9 fund balance with the what was it 2.5 i believe with 3.5 with the with the 2.4 transferred out right and then the three point then what and the retention of of like surplus

yeah we would end up with a 29.9 percent thank you uh fun balance percentage which would be stable from the prior year correct because as you as warno's are you know well our recommended range of the balance should be between 25 and 40 and so that will be you know right on the right near the middle of that amount so yeah something to think about for our next export meetings hopefully something we can discuss to put a little uh you know discount on uh our taxpayers tax bills next next year awesome we did talk about some other things too we talked about uh our tentative budget which we just had our public hearing about and um the tenant budget hasn't changed since it was presented last month it will be brought to the board for

approval at the next meeting and if there are any small changes between now and then the business office will give that information to us ahead of time and highlight it so that's moving right along we also had an update on outstanding student fees since december the district has been working on collecting outstanding fees and it has reduced the balance by two hundred and forty two thousand seven hundred forty four dollars so that was good news the other news is that you know collecting fees at the beginning of the school year but we're in line with how we've been in prior years as far as the amount of fees being collected um there's more to come but we're looking right where we should be um and um our outstanding balance from this past year and including

amounts going back to totaled out to 900 roughly 900 000. so there's still some fees to be collected but uh it's it's work in progress we also had the team from pmi come out and give us an update on our portfolio review and along with dr byne and so they gave us a look at what we're doing now and a forecast of how to be prepared for the future and since interest rates have been rising this will help us but it will also get balanced out by inflation and increasing costs so you know some good news some bad news okay nice thank you security matt awesome um yeah it was a really great meeting there were representatives from the fire departments and police departments from every local area it was a very well attended meeting

and some good stuff going on so we have um september 19th through 23rd uh we'll be safety week and all the schools so you know be showing the age-appropriate videos as well as doing drills for fires tornadoes and lockdown drills as well march 24th so a little further into the future will be our critical incident drill at bhs the staff is working through one run hide fight drills in each of the schools um per staff request they're really asking to get um you know kind of the real world feel as far as if there is a critical incident in their own schools rather than just you know all congregating at one elementary or middle school so we've completed one so far or at least since our meeting and it went really well we talked about

uh referendum dollars being spent we have monitors on doors uh to alert or they're being installed when doors are propped open i know that we've talked about that being you know one of the largest safety concerns that we have new key cards being printed after matt realized that there were some issues with our previous ones we have new camera systems going in access control systems going in we have common standards for all of the schools with secure vestibules we also did threat assessments at each of the schools prior to school starting and those went really well um and you know as far as you know kind of community reactions to some of the unfortunate shootings that we've seen over the past three to six months we had a pretty robust conversation regarding the way that

our own police departments communicate not only with one another but also with our schools and it's impressive you know as far as the level of training and really working through real world situations even going to local establishments who've opened up their doors to help them you know work through if there's a door that needs to be opened that's been barricaded and really working through those um crisis situations in real time to you know hopefully never have to utilize in real life but to to always be prepared in case so it was a great first meeting even though i forgot it [Laughter] i was only 10 minutes late but it was one of those where i'm like what is this oh my gosh we're back to school we've got safety and security so um yeah it

was it was really a good meeting excellent facilities um well i had so excited so even with the challenges that you guys had over the summer our 2022 projects are nearing completion um phase one of the prairie parking lot will be finished mid october and i'm going to give kudos as i have to drive there off and you guys are doing a great job getting people in and out of there um the remaining work there will be the right turn lane by the elc is scheduled for summer 2023 pending idot approval uh we will get final reconciliation on project costs like the october meeting once final bills are in but anticipating overall that we are at or below budget um so even while they were busy working on all those they were also already talking

plans for 2023 summer projects um so this summer obviously was focused on the referendum but we still are developing plans for what will be completed next summer uh those projects will be going out to bid in the next month or so and then we will be presented with the opportunity to approve the bids before we move forward obviously and lastly we talked about the path between bz and prairie the district is in works with the park district right now to maintain and update that path um providing access for our students who use bz for pe uh but that is a work in progress currently also did i miss anything is there an estimate on when that path would be done between very busy there's a path that's there already and uh so there's ongoing conversations

with the park district to try and get that settled for uh any refurbishment or modification so i don't have an answer as to when that will be done perry stampede is this friday and it will not be done it's always a good thing all right any other committee reports all right um let's move on to the consent agenda do we have a motion to approve the consent agenda as presented so moved second nope ty delia okay any questions or discussions i can read through the content in a moment here all right so up on our consent agenda we have um minutes from from august 16th our open close minutes as well as our special meeting close minutes and we have a revised personnel report so why would you roll call sandra bradford yes leah callister

blizzari yes angela wilcox yes steve wang katie karam aaron chan ding yes okay motion carries all right let's get to our action items we've got um five of them this evening first up is the do we have a motion to approve the trs ssp employer participation agreement so moved okay did you want to give us a little bit of a background on this one we've talked about this quite a few times this is a a requirement that we adopt this supplemental uh savings plan uh as we pointed out this is not an additional retirement benefit or a cost to the district other than kind of time on dr bynes within dr bind's office we've traditionally offered 403b 457 plans for our staff but this does put us in compliance with what we're required to do

so we're asking you to approve the employer participation agreement board any questions can you clarify also uh the cost that will incur would you like me to chime in on that please so 457 is funded through employee contributions so it doesn't cost the district you know we're not fronting money for employees in any way there is the back end administration that's involved so it's really more about the internal staff time that it's going to take to manage an additional 457 plan on top of the one that we already have so i'm not anticipating that this is a material cost for the district but it it will cost some time and energy on the business office to to take care of this and comply with the state requirement to be clear there's no mental costs that

we're anticipating that's correct thank you all right ready for roko katie yes sandra bradford yes erin chanding yes steve wang yes leah callister lazari yes angela wilcox yes all right motion passes next up do we have a motion to approve the intergovernmental agreement for shared instructional services with township high school district 214. so okay review yeah i'd like to thank 214 for agreeing to enter into this intergovernmental agreement this essentially allows 10 students to use that right 15 students at barrington high school to pursue their interest in automotives we do not offer that class at our high school so this agreement is with 214 where they'll house the program they'll will utilize their teacher and our students will be able to access that program board any questions so we haven't done this before this is

new or have we no longer i believe we've had situations where we have uh had students come to barrington high school to take courses and we've sent them elsewhere as well so it sounds like a really good thing thanks for doing it it's good for two years is that right for that was just double checking the same thing um because um is it like a junior and senior year thing or is it any two years that the student might be interested in it's a pathway can be developed oh cool this is the intro entry level of it started before covered and lost momentum during kobe because i couldn't travel with neighboring schools but trying to re-foster and redevelop that interest and hopefully excellent it's a great opportunity for the kids this does say here on

the term that it will automatically automatically renew on a yearly basis so we might not have to look at it for a while there an estimate for what the transportation and um what the reimbursement costs are going to be back to 214 as it relates to this program that was your question on what the cost is or reimbursement i'm sorry both uh i understand there's a transportation reimbursement that or that i'm sorry let me rephrase i understand there's a transportation cost we will incur and i also understand that we will reimburse 214 on a per capita basis per class correct is there an estimate as to what that aggregate cost will be for for d220 i i don't have that steve i don't know if you've got the the number on their per capita cost

the transportation will be the actual i'm not sure what that'll be on a this is a teacher's salary that we wouldn't pay in our district right so rather than these students taking another elective in the class the fte that would be reserved for that is used to pay for this so it's essentially a class here swapped with a class there the exact dollars and cents are much like our courses based on so there's no so if i'm understanding you correctly there's no additional cost it's just basically just the just the shift in how this cost will be occurred relative to hiring another teacher it was built into our staffing structure thank you and it's also built into a static structure there's so there's not a transportation yeah right so for students that were across the

street there wouldn't we wouldn't do any normal transport to to class that oh that sounds sort of funny but you know what i mean yeah but uh there is the incremental cost there which we would apply for reimbursement from the stably that would be an eligible expense or receive a portion of that back okay any other questions all right let's do a roll call steve wang leah callister lazari yes angela wilcox sandra bradford yes aaron chanding yes katie karam yes okay motion passes do we have a motion to approve the revised 2021-2023 board meeting calendar also moved second okay so i mean i guess a quick discussion on this is that we talked about this at our board retreat that we would um offer um a couple committee of the holes throughout the year so

this change change is just the one meeting right in october 18th that's correct to a committee the whole so it's not an additional meeting we've just changed it from a regular board meeting to a committee the whole is anything else we want to i think there was just an interesting from the board's perspective i don't want to speak for the board uh to provide an opportunity to um hear from the public interact with the public uh i will need some direction on whether that's you know topic specific whether we present something to the board um or whether that's a little more open-ended so i will need some direction in preparation for that meeting okay so it's it's only like three meetings away so we probably ought to give that direction pretty quickly here so i

think we talked about at the retreat about having some updates about about the district and what was going on as a starting point yeah so i could you know provide you know a update on strategic priorities for example work that's going on in the district not getting any one topic specifically but highlight the work that's been done and then leave it open for conversation give it some structure it wouldn't be it would it would give information to the public that's interesting and in a more casual setting and then it could be questions about that or about other things i think we talked about potentially having a topic but also opening it up after we discussed that topic to other concerns or feedback right didn't we but it's not that a topic was required but that

could probably give some guidance give some guidance in the direction yeah give us something to communicate what you know what we're going to be talking about but usually i mean usually with the community committee of the whole that's not i mean are we opening this up as more of a discussion with the community or are we having people write down questions or what what is when you say open it up for further discussion what does that mean we talked amongst ourselves and with our facilitator about how can we communicate and and have open communication with the public because sometimes when things come up like public comment there's not really a give and take it's like a public comment and then we've got our meeting and so that an opportunity of a community of the whole

would be a an opportunity for people in the community to come and talk to board members hear what's going on also gain some information and it will be a way to um to have community input so they will be they they will be able to ask questions and we will respond to the questions because that's different than what we usually do with the committee of the whole right right and it's not just the budget it's it's like a it's it's an opportunity to interact and um have open conversation of an interactive way less less like a board meeting it's like a formal structure and um you know the way this meeting works so we talked about even different formats like we could give the presentation and then just have an open house and have people

just be able to mingle and talk and um and of course since it's a committee a whole there will be no actions taken i'm going to make sure that's clear right there's no actions then taken at at uh at the meeting so i can work on a structure and put it in my weekly that would be great and then get some feedback because if we're gonna engage you know any of our council would want to know who that would be so the time to prepare as well excellent because we really wanted to think of different ways to interact with the public in a positive way that would be good for everybody because we want to work on our communication it's always something that we look to improve improve on and be transparent and so this

seemed like a different idea that the people that were there that day thought seemed like a good one after we talked it through a little bit is are there notes about it in that letter that laurie grant sent us back i don't i read that and i can't remember because she was like giving us our to-do list it was pretty high level i think it was pretty high level that the board agreed to add at least two of these meetings into the calendar yeah and how we could work together as a board do some bonding things like go out to dinner and have these meetings these were some of the brainstorming things that were positive we could ask her too for suggestions in terms of format of like maybe what has worked well for other

boards when they've had kind of discussions like these with the public we've done we've done a few different things as well in the past the other thing coming up is there's always that list from for the triple i conference of the different boards recommending recommendations to the legislature and that's kind of a sometimes there's hot topics in there sometimes there's not but that's something that we've you know had a public hearing on to make it more accessible and discussable that that the timing of that may be passed the time for that the submission date is cast right but then when they give us the list to you know decide how our board feels about it that's a topic that sometimes is the community cares about right i can't remember when that comes out i can't

either it should be pretty soon though because that conference is in november and november so it'll be pretty soon and remember too that there's a new structure there as well so they've got um goals and so anything that comes forward will be passed forward we'll have to align with your goals as well so we should see an improved list of um topics for consideration so you're going to get back to us with uh yeah and if anyone has specific ideas we talked about a variety of things in that meeting you know steve i know you were engaged in that as well so if you have specific ideas if you let me know that i'd appreciate it i'll put something together and just ask for your feedback i think the two topics that were suggested will

be good just the referendum update yeah okay okay depending on the feedback that we get we might have an update to that that we could share again on that okay okay do we need to vote yes we do so roll call please sandra bradford yes motion passes okay do we have a motion to approve the board protocols as presented okay i found two things guys that i didn't realize that i missed the other night but um before we vote i wanted to look at item number 6b that's something we talked about and i think maybe we didn't ask her to remove but we really aren't doing that right now so i think we should strike that one out yes wait so is it okay i will amend my motion to make the two suggestions you're

about to make the other one i was going to make was um we just call your attention to 10 m um where we where we would um only underextending circumstances make the board president we'll make a statement so i wanted to insert the word board president there and then also to limit any statement to two minutes and um provide 48 hours um in advance so under the extenuating circumstances sandra okay we'll make that under 10 m okay i guess my only question here would be and i think um i you know in my opinion i would never want to say never right so um i'd so therefore i just wanted to leave it open if we did find there's something so if we knew something in advance um and and and again that's why i

asked for the limitation of the two minutes yeah right so it's no longer than a public comment and then if we've got enough notice then i can even alert the other board members so nobody's surprised yeah i think you could ask the board members like does anyone object i mean i think this is an extenuating circumstance please let me know if you disagree that's fair perhaps we could like have a standard of when these extenuating circumstances occur we they're these are read before public comment or after public like they're all right at the same point of the meeting yeah that's fine too yeah i have uh one adjustment too and it's another ticky tackle before before we go there are we are we okay with those who i'm sorry is angela and who's who second

or angela and leah yeah are you okay can i ask you a quick question sandra about 6b did you wait hold on steve was up next okay steve had somebody had to deal with your amendment though okay 6b yeah yeah i was wondering did you want to you also wanted to strike board members have the autonomy to respond to emails no so we're not no just the the the auto response just the message received part so just the first sentence right not a second yeah yes because he originally said both sentences sorry 6b just the first sentence you're correct so leave 6b part b yeah so let me make sure that's i can reiterate that at the end but leah and angela are you both okay with that just that first sentence talking about the

automatic message that we're not doing okay thank you aaron steve sorry just know you have a quick typo here we have two number sevens under social media and board member responsibility oh we do yes wow you are quick on that today sorry leah and angela are you okay with the amendment to correct the numbering no i like two numbers let's add a thirteen yes of course yes fine with that okay and um anything else clarify are we adding a time in which this will be read to this amendment before public comment after public comment oh when in the meeting is that an addition for them i think it might depend on that extenuating circumstance i mean i can make sure we can ask the president to make sure if they if they send it to

everyone just specify when does that sound okay to everybody yeah yep okay thank you for the clarification thank you okay so three changes that i think were approved one was to remove 6b the first sentence because we are not doing an auto reply to emails and then to update 10 that the statement will be no longer than 2 minutes and provided 20 48 hours in advance and to correct the numbering those three things can i just ask a clarifying question to you under like 7b we're talking about official under social media the first seven the origin the original seven uh so that wouldn't pertain to say like if i'm watching my son at a cross-country meet as a parent like posting oh like chandler had her his first cross-country meet or katie watches her son

at a football game or i'm placing that everywhere to be clear yeah yeah we can like brag on our children at their school activities anywhere right it's just yes we're talking about like official district events yeah not posting like our own material okay thank you okay okay so we have two and a half pages of protocols um i don't know that i need to read them all to everyone but if you guys would like me to i will otherwise we will post a link to them in our email that comes out if we approve okay so we've got a lot of this is just protocols on how we behave and operate as a board so the public can review those assuming we approve them at a roll call there we go katie karam yes angela

wilcox yes sandra bradford yes aaron chanding yes steve wang yes leah collister lazari yes all right motion passes i know you guys are going to be all excited to read those actually they're good they're very well thought out so i thank every on the board for their time and consideration of them okay next up do we have a motion to approve the 2022-23 board priorities as presented so moved second okay any discussion yeah i just had a few follow-up questions um so and some are like little suggestions and some are just legit questions so under personalized learning you know i know that well first of all most of them have three bullet points and personalized learning did not and if we don't really have a bullet for strong academic success um you know i know

that we really kind of reworked all of our framework work to address community concerns concerning i keep repeating the same word but as a different form of speech concerns concerning um i don't think that's appropriate at all but anyway um you know wanting to see more of a focus on academics in our our priorities and in our framework structure and i just didn't see a bullet point so i was wondering if we could add one yeah and and just to be clear these are goal areas that we have identified in which you know there are action steps and work different than in years past where we've just had kind of these general focus areas um i don't think anyone would be opposed to articulating that we have a focus on academics and and rigorous academics

i think that's inherent in in in the priority and in the work as well so it's meaningful for students and challenging this is more specific to what's going to happen this school year do you want to like add whatever curriculum is going to get reviewed this this year we know we know that some one subject's up i can't remember which would you like me to speak to this so that's work that will always happen regardless of any strategic plan or board priority or strategic priority so our mission statement is empower personal excellence in every learner so so that is that overarching umbrella snap dab in the middle of the learner profile we have rigorous academics so one of those steps within personalized learning is developing the learner profile which we'll talk about in a little

bit and those are the personal success skills those are in addition to the academic success skills that are going to always be inherent in our curriculum and when we think about personalized learning and future readiness those are ways to help us implement those rigorous academics the rigorous academics are always going to be front and center of our work regardless of any other priority that's in place we have very specific action plans or action steps that fall under each of these priorities right and they're not listed here but they're i know they're very thorough and multiple changes right so well yeah i mean i have the the priorities as well but you know i think that with each of these you know six areas there are you know we call out things that you know we

as a board you know kind of be labored word choice and what we want to see in here and you know all of this and and i think that in this one area that's the only one where this sentence fosters strong academic and personal success skills is is missing it as one of the bullet pointed um action items yeah and we had this conversation we did when we did the learner profile that it's in the center of everything that we need to do right so so do we just want to are you you want to articulate that that's in the center and it's listed in this box but then there's no bullet point relating to it below like how what was the action on it i think and you're saying it's everywhere but you're proposing

a bullet point that says foster strong academic is that correct or yeah i i just i think that we we don't have strong academic you know like that phrase in any of these bullet points and when we did our listening tour and you know matt that was something that we were responding to the community because there was you know i think that we were really trying to focus our framework on our our strong academics are what set our district apart from other districts and you know we we do have academic challenges ahead of us i mean you know with learning loss and things that we've talked about so i feel like it should be specifically noted yeah i mean to me it is in the priority it's very specific that we need to foster a

strong academic and personal i hear you saying you don't think you need to have that bullet repeated i i think we can it's just restating the same thing that's in the parliament okay but all of these bullet points restate what's in the what's in this yeah yeah i mean every single one i mean like almost word for word every little phrase is recaptured within the bullet points you just want balance to f3 right i do like curriculum development cycles for all content areas and programs i also see that fitting within our inclusive education priority but that could be an example of one way to to put that focus there can you restate that one more time review curriculum development cycles for all content areas and programs what are you saying there you're going to review

every content area in the district you don't want to commit to that no you are a cycle review our process of reviewing curricula okay well i like that given the fact that we've gotten a lot of pushback or a lot of feedback that parents perceive we're we're dropping honors classes or we're doing things like that so i like the thought that we're going to make sure we are keeping our classes where they need to be and rigorous so rigorous actually can i ask on this point because i have to be honest i did not know what mtts mtss was until my doc until my daughter this year was is was identified i is this explained somewhere and to parents yes and it's the supports that students are receiving both within and outside of the classrooms

to ensure that all students have access to meeting growth and proficiency targets i get that i i guess i'm just okay and that that's not new i think what we're identifying here is that we we have variance areas to improve we need to evaluate the model um and part of that is communication of the model yeah thank you i think we we've talked about bringing consistency throughout our buildings in terms of supports that are available how we're evaluating data how we're identifying students and how we're moving them into mtss mtss is not new i mean this has been in the district sorry i guess i didn't mean you i i think i i get a lot of questions about this in terms of the sixth grade math and the differentiating between then it's honors for

all but not but then children are being identified so that's where it came up in conversation there's a whole page dedicated to mtss explaining it defining it and identifying jordan anderson as the person to contact if you have further questions so can we link to that when we post these priorities can we link to that page under mtss because like katie i think i'm gonna look down by samantha the webmaster as recognized earlier thank you yeah because i'm like i'm with katie where i didn't really know too much about it until you all explained it so just a suggestion because i know when i first read this i thought oh wow this is for the whole future with the framework and and i was reminded that this is for the next upcoming school year these

are the priorities but it doesn't say that on here now that i look at it and so it's not as obvious because like when i looked at it you know and i spoke with you i was like wait a minute we're missing you know sustainability isn't a bullet under stewardship like where is the environmental sustainability and there's a few things that aren't in here because they're going to be developed through the committees because i was like wait we have to have that and so just to help us remind ourselves in the community that this is the beginnings for this year but as far as the whole framework this is the goals for goals is maybe not the appropriate word but it's what i think of with this this is priorities priorities for this year so

for for this school year but that the framework is like a an ongoing thing and there's a process to make that grow and become more detailed that you're going to tell us about later on tonight a little bit and as we go along this this next few months that might be helpful and i'm sorry that i didn't think of that like a couple days ago to say would it be more clear to put the year on there okay so he's already added it okay how fast he is wow okay so thank you so at the top we just say like board priorities 20 22 20 23 because then yeah consistent with what we've done in past years but because this one says framework it makes me think oh you know different well everything will be

within the framework now right all our priorities to make sure we align with the framework right so those who first and second two changes propose one to stay at the title to make it very clear these are the priorities for this year and i would like to take the time and read the the six areas real quickly um after we vote and then to add the third bullet uh dr byrne make sure i say this right revised curriculum development cycles for all content area review excuse me review curriculum development cycles of all content areas content areas and and programs review review change revised means change review means that it means different okay yeah so review the process who first and second and or you okay okay so i'm good you're good anything else yeah no

okay but it still doesn't say anything about strong academics i mean i like i just i feel like every single one of these really goes into the you know i mean i feel like we have challenges this year that that in this current school year that we didn't have three school years before i mean we've seen the the reports as far as learning loss we've seen all this and i feel like if we if we just don't even address that in this is what we're doing next school year then this is lacking well a couple of things one evaluating the mtss is a huge part of identifying learning loss and what is in place the other thing is the board has supported a number of resources to provide mental health services academic support services through

esser funds that are in place so those two things right there completely address what you're speaking to in terms of what we're going to funds really go towards you know like our test scores coming down mtss program process as well perhaps we evaluate the mtss process and procedures to ensure academic academics to ensure each child is reaching their academic i don't know it's under personalized learning so i think it's it's kind of implied but i mean it's also under inclusive education the third bullet ensure all learners have equitable access to a high quality of education so that high quality education piece is also coming in that strategically as well i agree but i think ensuring access is not the same as addressing learning loss addressing that our test scores have gone down that's just my

opinion we are addressing that in and outside of the strategic priorities because that is the core of what we do as academics so angela did you have a spot where you wanted to did you want to add it under personalized learning yeah i did but i'm not getting i i don't think that it's supported so yeah i i didn't think this would be um angela can you say again what your proposal is i just want to make sure i understand i don't have a a new bullet point i know that dr hunt has gone through and provided you know all of these you know very i don't know i just put my paper but right on your computer with plans but even when i read through the action items in each of these you know

i i don't see anything that specifically addresses we have become aware this year that our test scores have gone down more than we previously believed them to we are going to take every step possible to make sure that that is changing and it starts right now in this school year that's and i that's not what this should say that's just what i think is important and for me as a board member that's a really important priority yeah no i totally understand and i and i would say to you that's at the core of who we are and the business that we do mtss there's a whole lot of conversation here about data developing data teams understanding where students are at and providing interventions and services that's right at the heart of what you're talking about

i think what angel's trying to say though and correct me if i'm wrong is that it's not imp it's not explicit enough and i i get where you come from because i agree i mean our charges board members is to ensure academic excellence and you know i'm not going to get into the you know the cause but obviously we have some work to do given what we've seen historically with you know test scores across the board year over year so i don't know i i totally hear what you come from angel and i can definitely see value in adding that to make it you know that much more i guess for like a better way putting it explicit because in fact i get what you're saying it's underlying. so essentially yeah but essentially you're saying

you want to restate in a bullet this idea of fostering strong academic skills within students i mean we we can write that down for sure it's just already there i think it's your point it's already yeah it's not explicit it is it's very explicit in personalized learning what if we added it somewhere in the first bullet point angela like develop meaningful and challenging academic and extracurricular experiences that are relevant would that help or does that dilute it no i that's that's fine i just to me what i feel like i will walk away from this year as a board member is when i mean there are many things but one of the one of my priorities is i really want to get that presentation as far as where our test scores are and that it

comes back and says we had a dip in our scores and we are right back to where we were pre-pandemic we are we are continuing the charge that we have been doing for the past however many years that that is i guess what i'm saying here is this is the work that we believe we need to do to get there well i mean i get your point to a point we say everything else why if we say like it's like we're gonna put down every bullet point but then i mean i don't think it's meaning as an insult it's like just i see where you're coming from i see where both sides of this are it's but if i were a parent just reading this then like none of what angela is really talking about

and focusing on you guy i know you're it's in here if you but if i'm just skimming this no i mean where do we do something katie so you had you had proposed evaluate multi-tiered systems of support and procedures so that students can reach their academic potential is that too strong is that not what it's for is that but it is the thing what was that yeah it's only one of the tools though there's so many i know right i know so i get what you're saying to aaron um what might help is like i pulled up the page right on barrington 220 multi-tiered system of supports and the first sentence explains what mtss is it says mtss is a process designed to help schools focus on high quality instruction and interventions that are matched

to students needs and monitored on a frequent basis so like if if we would explain what it is use that sentence this is the definition then it explains what we're doing and that's more clear and feels more like what we do need to do we need to make sure every student is getting what they need and we also we all as a board none of us i would think would say we don't want to make sure that the learning loss is addressed we want to make sure that our students are where they belong but it it's more clear if there's a way to explain it more clearly in everyday language that might help us so what if we took that part and made it a bullet point and said focus on high quality instruction and

interventions that are matched to student needs because you're already saying it with the evaluate and we're going to link to it right i don't think we need to repeat we already said we're going to link to the page right yeah yeah but i i i can see how it could help using more kind of more everyday language right there in the priority because because no this is like teacher lingo or you know administration lingo stuff that i have trouble with too there's a lot of acronyms a lot of initials and for regular folks to understand what it is right obviously that's going to be helpful right there versus having a link to something that's always i mean we can define it but this is this is our work this is lingo because this is the

work we're going to do i'm not i'm not they make another proposal what if we just added the bullet foster strong academics in addition to the one that we already said we were going to add to review the curriculum and development just add the bullet foster strong academics it's a repeat of what above but it makes it very clear yeah yeah and dr hunt i i understand i would if you walked into my law firm and started telling me this is what you need to do with your trademarks i'd be like what you don't know a foot but this because of the frame of this which is the board priorities i do think that we have a personal responsibility to to have an opinion on this and it's not that we are trying to tell

you this is how you make the sausage but i do think that it is our personal responsibility as elected people to say this is this is what we want the sausage to look like i mean that's actually 100 why i'm saying to you as well i agree that there needs to be some specific some specifics here because in kraken bomb raw when i when i read this we have the six you know i don't know what to call them six priorities let's say and then and then the path right is the bullet points below is that how we should frame it yeah i guess the path is to achieve personalized learning we've got to we've got to be able to achieve excellence before we can even get to that stage where we're talking about personalizing

and making specific plans and maybe i'm misunderstanding but that's kind of how i'm seeing it right now i i think we can put some language here that identifies strong academics because public facing document as well right and you want to make sure that that resonates right right foster strong academics and personal skills that lifts from that and it doesn't replicate every single word and honestly because this is the work that you are doing maybe this is not the maybe this is a discussion and we table this for a vote at the next meeting we can do that i mean if is this something that because i don't know that we should be i mean the board wordsmith this thing to within an inch of our lives before i don't i'm not trying to you know

continue to do that and and that's why i was just trying to throw it out as a concept i didn't think that it would become what this is what's becoming right so you know maybe that's just the comment and it maybe we could wait and come back and and discuss this um i don't know if this like throws off your schedule and i i just didn't realize that this is where this work is going yeah it's working of course i can see it's going yeah okay so and we can also make it more general as the board has approved before where there's just a few words under bullets if that's the preference of the board i'd rather be more specific than vague at this point i i mean i honestly think that and this is

just my personal preference because we as board members we are not you know we're not evaluating the multi-tiered system of support processes and procedures you know we are you guys are and and under your direction like i don't know if this is something that maybe this maybe it should be a little bit more generalized as far as our priorities rather than getting into the sausage making yeah which is the conversation we had in our right we want to make a workshop right right to make it measurable too so i just need some direction no that's a good point leo it needs to be measurable right so can we we don't measure ourselves like we measure we review the superintendent we don't do an uh like a review of ourselves i think we should but we

don't yeah it's measurable for the work of the superintendent yeah because these are the priorities that the superintendent is going to make happen and so they need to be realistic they need to be doable and they need to be measurable and clear yeah so is there some sort of i don't know whether it's looking at those you know test scores that we looked at whether it's looking at rankings i don't know when you get into it yeah like that is not i don't know they are measurable and you know we are externally by the world around us graded on that you know i mean people are looking at houses well how's their school rank all that stuff but i don't think that that's not what i'm i i think that as a board that's you

know trying to provide governance and and leadership you know we can say what it is that that is important to us which we have i thought really really well and then i feel like the way that you interpret that and make that into action items make that into measurable things that you are are measuring your own staff by and that we then look at and see okay this was what he said he was going to do and this is what he did that's our our role in my opinion i i get it that's different than we talked about in this workshop and i'm sorry so i just need to i need some direction on what you want let me make these more certainly take them to a higher level and make them more sustained i

can certainly do that i don't know that that equates to measurable let me ask let me go back and ask this question so we if we added the two bullets one to foster academic strong academics and personal skills and added the other bullet to review curriculum development cycles for all content areas and programs and add the title those three changes does that make everybody feel more comfortable one concern i have now is that we need to you know i think we can all agree to that hopefully and then and then we have something that we can communicate now right if well yeah i want to see what the final you know wording is is before i i really don't feel comfortable voting on this tonight the other thing is to approve the priorities that that's

what you could disapprove that that's absolutely i completely yeah and we've worked on those for so long i mean it's just the individual and because then you know it just brings in more and more questions and and i do struggle do you struggle with it a little as far as getting like too into it like i get leah's point as far as like no it's not just words it's actions then you know there is a certain point where we as board members are are really not supposed to be getting this entrenched and i feel like this is very entrenched i think okay the other thing here was that there was kind of a timeline to get back to bob with concerns and and i feel like some of us did and to keep it moving

you know so i think i heard a proposal on the table disagree with you but i personally also thought some of these discussions should be happening here so that we're all kind of on the same page too so that's actually um but you're not wrong yeah but what if the board just approved the priorities which you already have you approve those last spring we're approving the bottom which i will read i promise i will read what those six boxes are so everybody can hear that and does everybody feel comfortable with that captured this yes yes and the bullet points are more goals under the priorities are they also are they kind of sub priorities well they're kind of the measurable things for the year is the way i understood it i think right these are

the things because the the boxes are not for we're not going to accomplish everything in that box this year it's impossible it's a work in progress right the boxes are the big goals for the longer term yeah go back go back a year a priority was digital citizenship that's all it said yeah right so this is even more even these boxes are more than we had absolutely yeah so okay so how do we feel team approved the about the six boxes tonight just saved myself a lot of work yep and then we're going to hone the bullet points for later right just to clarify we're going to hold that for the september 20th meeting then and we'll take maybe a few days to prevent dr hunt with some more thoughts and you can revise or

how do you want to do that sandra well we're we even still have a discussion topic on this tonight right yeah so well in the next steps of this but perhaps i guess i'm hearing mixed messages what i'm hearing is keep it at a high level which to me is approve the priorities you worked on the parties these are the priorities of the district go [Music] make progress in these areas which would mean i don't come back with bullets that these are the priorities oh okay priorities and and then in our discussion we will talk about the next steps too if there's anything else we want to have done we agreed to these priorities in the in the black boxes on what we've seen which i will read those six so i think it was

leah and aaron that motion are you okay to amend it to just include the the six priorities are we going to change the title to 2021-2022 prior with the title change thank you with the title change 20 20 i mean sorry next year sorry board priorities in just the six bucks six black box correct yes and so what so these bullet points will they won't come back to us well we can talk about next steps and see if we want something to come back to us okay look for something because structurally there are these priorities then there are these bullet point goal type things and then beyond that they're the action steps to accomplish those goals but the action steps we do not vote on right those are that's for our administration to act on

okay okay yeah i'm fine with that yes okay so let's do a roll call to approve it as presented adding the title and removing the bullets okay is that clear yes yes all right roll call andrew bradford yes steve wang yes erin chanding yes leah callister lazari yes katie carom angela wilcox yes all right motion passes so quickly let me just read and just i'll just read the six areas personalized learning future readiness inclusive education health and well-being community partnerships and communication and stewardship these are all things that we've talked about in the past and then there's a there's a sentence or two after each one that you'll see when we publish the email to say what we did tonight okay all right let me go back to my agenda here so next up is

our discussion topic on framework 220 next steps we'll go right into what we'll be doing next so keep those priorities up guys it will be up here and i'm out that is part of the framework running my own computer up here [Applause] okay thank you so we will transition right into um the presentation about next steps with framework 220 and we're going to talk a lot about this about opening day we've been through a lot as a school district uh i think a lot of lessons learned we certainly focused on how we educate kids um challenged you know ourselves professionally with various models and and how we approach education the board did receive a presentation last year we talked you know our staff about what lessons learned do we need to pull forward so we're

really having this conversation about the future of education being now and what it should look like going forward obviously that plays into the system that we began to create last year which for me really puts the the foundation uh and strategic direction in place for our continuous improvement efforts as a school district and within our buildings throughout the school district and it's kind of really moving from this idea of random acts of improvement or programs to alignment and focusing on you know what is our ultimate goal and uh and and moving towards that goal uh every single day as we we approach uh our work so i just want to quickly uh have dr winkelmann walk us through the process we went through last year kind of uh refresh our minds on the things that

we approved and we have in place and then talk about the next phase of this work so thank you dr hunt so you know last year was an exciting time for our school district first time in over 10 years that we embarked on a comprehensive way to engage our community from a variety of stakeholders from starting the fall with dr hunt's listening tour into more strategic areas as community focus groups a community-wide survey a two-day summit informal coffees and so forth just gathering information from a variety of sources which included 693 face-to-face meeting participants as well as over 3751 participants in that survey component so over 4 000 stakeholders participated last year in our process this led to four distinct outcomes a learner profile a mission statement core beliefs and strategic priorities i'll touch on

two of the four and then dr burns gonna go a little deeper into two of them so mission statement you know this is the purpose of why we exist right this is our our guidepost and so um we did make an adjustment to our previous mission statement and arrived at based on all that feedback that we collected last year on empower personal excellence in every learner and i think this is important you know you will see different school districts maybe focus um different words or an emphasis on students of course students are our core mission but intentional with the learner aspect because we believe that if this is our organization's mission statement we're all learners right we're all learning constantly and that's that was a very intentional design for our new mission statement in addition

to creating a mission statement we also developed core beliefs these are our most important essential aspects as a district so when we're considering the work that we do when we're making decisions um when we're looking deeper these are the things that drive our work right we want to make sure that great learning environments where students feel feel physically and emotionally safe we want to provide a strong academic foundation and a variety of curricular and co-curricular so when we're doing the work every day these are the things that we drop on to say are we on track these are the core beliefs that guide our work as a district beyond our mission and the core beliefs let me get into a little bit more specifics with our learner profile so one of the our one of

the things that we are most proud of in this process is the development and the launch of our learner profile so when we think of the strategic priority which we'll talk about in a minute of personalized learning we think of students owning their learning and in order for students to really own their learning we have to not only focus on the academic success skills but we also have to focus on the personal success skills we need to ensure that all students have from when they enter our system and when they exit our system and everything within and throughout so after a robust feedback experience and multiple renditions of the learner profile we landed on six different personal success skills which are creates practices advocacy and empathy collaborates exhibits initiative and self-drive thinks critically and solves

problems and communicates effectively so at this point we have the personal success skills defined and now the real work begins so if you remember last year we had launched a committee to start looking at the learner profile and helping prepare the learner profile personal success skills and their definitions for our district community summit where the community offered additional feedback and arrived at these six personal success skills so now that committee of of teachers and staff members and administrators is going to come back to the table and start engaging in the work to what i say is build out the learner profile so this group will be meeting on about a monthly basis and will be engaging in work in order to develop learning progressions which might include and not limited to things like proficiency rubrics

and student reflection tools because when we think of preparing students for life outside of barrington you're right we do have to ensure that all of our learners have access to a robust and rigorous academic experience and we believe that that cannot cannot happen without the implementation of the personal success skills so expect to be hearing updates from us throughout the year about what this work is looking like because there are lots of different ways to go about it and define designing and implementing authentic tasks to go along with the implementation of these skills and looking at how these skills will be assessed for our youngest learners and our oldest learners and everyone in between and then next we have our six strategic priorities which are again personalized learning health and well-being future readiness community partnerships

and communication inclusive education and steward and so all of this to say with our strategic priorities as it says that right up there at the top is in order to achieve academic excellence we have to ensure that we are doing work within each six of these priorities and then now dr hunt will talk about what this looks like in terms of the work we look at taking the next steps with this we have talked about creating design teams around each of these priorities to really flush out what the next steps for the next three years should be in each of these areas and you know having those design teams kind of wrap up to executive council and then to the board of education kind of an ongoing process throughout the beginning of this year to

begin to articulate that work so as we create those teams we one of the things we want to do with those is really to develop an understanding of the why so if we have teachers in the room that may or may not have participated in the conversations with framework 220 it's it's spending some time looking back on the surveys and the input that we got from our staff that's it or our community as well that that really led to the development and evolution of those priorities so understanding the why is important for each design team and then understanding the common understanding of what really is the intent of this priority so in other words what do we hope to accomplish by making that a priority and doing this work how is it going to improve

the student experience for our students establishing a baseline none of the none of the work in here is is something that there aren't there aren't elements of already in our organization so when you when you talk about personalized learning for example there are examples of that ongoing now so taking some time to step back and say okay what is the baseline for where we're at with personalized learning or future readiness or inclusion or stewardship there's a lot of really good things happening here so we need to understand what is the baseline where we're at today and where we're going to go forward and then really establish those three to five key work areas or goals underneath there that will really focus our work for the next three years and establishing action steps to make that

work come to fruition the last kind of hits to your measurement component is establishing what are the key performance indicators for the priority so is it within the priority that we identify things that yeah if if we're moving forward in this in in this priority we should see these indicators move uh if we're moving forward with the entire street strategic plan what are those performance indicators that we value and that we hope move us forward so the design teams will enter and engage in that conversation so that work in terms of timeline and this is just kind of a draft um obviously we're presenting the board of education tonight we created uh our vision cycles within our buildings and obviously worked with executive council has really centered on the strategic priorities this year to begin

to align and move towards that the attainment of that mission presenting kind of an overview at a high level for you tonight at the board level then we would move into okay who are the players that we need to have serving and working on these design teams to establish those three to five work areas moving forward we want to use our district leadership team which has representation from our our teacher leaders administrative leaders uh to kind of be you know involved in terms of giving feedback uh monitoring progress uh hope to present back to the board and update on this work in december continue the work in january and hopefully by the end of the year be able to come to you and say here are your priorities here the specific goal areas of work

for the next three years and and really get you know your feedback from the board perspective but also take it back out to the community and say we we heard all of these things from you did we capture that in the work that we've identified within this strategic plan and then finalize that to move forward so that's a very quick way of giving you an overview of the the next phase of this process and we certainly you know open it up to questions that you might have so you'll suggest the performance indicators in december i would imagine by december january-ish we'll have an idea of at least what's being discussed i don't think that will be finalized until you know we present everything back to you more questions are comments from the board i think

we're all everybody seems to be absorbing so i know we nitpicked through we only got through one that we nitpicked through but i guess enter like um i don't know that i want a presentation but i guess and i can certainly there's some things on here bullet points that i would like to flush out or have more information on would you anticipate having like a more thorough present not that this isn't their own that's not what i'm trying to say but a presentation that while we won't pick apart every little word that you write down kind of goes into a little bit deeper of breakdown of these things that you're talking about here yeah and again these are things that are kind of slated for work this year that you're looking at the the the

next phase of this will be looking out three years what work do we want to do in the district i would imagine that would come to you we would share that with you for your feedback and input so in september when you well i guess it is september so that so the action planning process is this are we are we going to get an update based on our individual feedback to you on any other bullet points you might have added or like are we going to get an update on that what and what you gave us here i'm kidding borrowing this i'm good yeah i i can certainly give you an update on that work okay remember that work is this year this year yeah the work of these design teams is looking forward okay

but i think you made a couple of small amendments to the bullet points to the action plan i did points okay so we can kind of see an update of that sure okay but not through like a discussion item that i'll just this what you will get updated on and what we're talking about this evening is about what we would kick off and launch into next year moving forward right so i see we would get a report in in december and then in june right correct and you said you're going back out to the community then after that uh we've kind of slated april as community feedback uh i would imagine probably odds are we probably come back to the board in march as well before we do that yeah yeah so december march and

june yep oh it's on there yeah so i know we dropped the bullet points from our vote tonight but i do think some of them are pretty specific in terms of goals and they do seem important to say that hey we're behind them so is there going to be a chance to you know affirm these things as a board some of these in terms of like yeah i mean there's there's some that are more specific than others in terms of like you know school teams forming it school equity teams forming at every building or um if you want to bring that up is that going to be through ptos or how is that you envisioning the school equity teams so those teams are predominantly staff i know today he kicked off with two of the

teams at the building level pto is involved more around the belonging campaign and how to integrate that but that's how pto has you know we'll be involved in this so there's other things like that there's a bullet point around design concepts for the future fine arts center i think that there's i think i think i think that we as a board has have talked about that a lot so i'm just wondering is there going to be a chance to all of this work all of that work is happening this year all of that work is moving forward whether or not we vote on it so it's a matter of saying do we want to say those are our priorities or not or do we just want this to happen and we've already approved i just

want to make sure we separate the two this is about planning for the future what you were what you reviewed before is about the work that's going on this year so the fine arts for example we've we've started those conversations the board will be updated on that uh we'll bring the process forward to the board we're going to present it to the board get feedback and then we would you know at some point approve someone to help with lead us through that process so that that will that will go on so those bullet points that we didn't vote on they're pretty much happening regardless right as a as a way to enforce the priorities that we did vote on okay got it okay thank you so we basically don't need to vote on those bullet

points because they're gonna happen they're gonna happen okay thank you so as far as like community involvement part of our committee the whole in october we'll be talking about some of the things happening with this i would imagine right and things happening this school year correct okay so that's a way in the coffees people can ask questions and that's part of that absolutely and there's you know community connection as these these things that we're providing and you're providing a good way to divide them up too like to make one community the whole what's happening this year and then maybe the next one more of this future focus maybe yeah over all your bullet points so hopefully we're getting more communication out and getting back to life in person yeah you know as time goes on

here so this is good work thank you so much so we will we would start we would start uh kind of filling in these design teams with appropriate staff members obviously we want to get teacher representation uh especially on the teaching and learning side i know melissa's already you know done a lot of that work there's already committees in place but we will we will plug in uh appropriate people along the way you know sam and i are looking at this community partnership piece we're gonna probably need to tie into some of our community members and bring them uh to get involved as well so please express our thanks to the people behind the scenes that are going to be you know roped in and invited in to participate and do work because it is

real time and teachers are doing real teaching and and so it's hard to get everything but we appreciate we appreciate all that hard work because this is for the future too i just don't want to spread people too thin excellent any other feedback thank you all right next up is agenda items um so for the next board meeting we have the budget adoption which we've already talked about the budget transfer which we've talked about also transferring to capital projects referendum projects update safety update and we will be as we talked about our last meeting we'll be reviewing the book review process are we also going to discuss the recommendations for flamer and this book is gay i think we can as everybody had a chance to um get access to the books and read them

or will you be okay if you're able to finish before um before the next meeting i think there's been i think flamer was difficult to get access to is that right janine that or are we gonna be able to i haven't loaned out all of them i think we've got three or four at this point so we should be getting closer i can give i can let them go on mine i'm done if you have passed your book along to another board member because i know there's been a couple of those like you need them next era right i have this book is gay i don't have a flamer no you don't take care of that look at that oh thank you look at that so so are both of these going to be action

items then so i thought there'd be discussion items right or you know well i guess it should be actually right action right october 3rd is that does that give you enough time i think barry hadn't read them either as of last week but that should give us enough time does he okay so yeah okay do how about we do this if if i find that everybody's had the opportunity to read them we can make them action names at the next meeting on september 20th or if not both maybe one i can tell you flamer is a really easy read i i split into a couple days but i could have done it in one if i just sat down it's a graphic novel so that helps it's a really yeah i did it in one

in terms of yeah exactly yeah all right so you want to just let sandra know that sounds fair yes and then we are doing some work internally on the uh selection process um so i don't imagine i don't know october 3rd is that fair so that's the discussion so we'll have an update on selection process as well on that and to be clear that's how we review a book that is challenged or no selection and how it's challenged both of those both of those will be the same both of those will be discussed okay on the 20th on september 20th i was i said the third but actually so october that's yeah let me check and find out where our staff is with that and maybe we can do it on the 20th i just

want to make sure that our staff has enough time to review and give feedback steve this belongs to the district right just that i'm returning yeah it's the right place okay thank you okay um and we no longer have an action item to review the confidentiality of closed session minutes we were able to remove that so if you're wondering why that's not there so do we have a motion to adjourn so much second all in favor all right in the opposition all right thank you all very much we are
