002Coach Alex puron to the podium Alex is the proud staff sponsor of the Bulldog me media team she's here with Dennis Pon and students Hunter Mason and Micah Gilmore and today they will be sharing the highlights and information about their team awesome removed side yes thanks perfect thank you all right um hi everyone so those of you that don't know me my name is Alex Pon I am the sports information director at Pavia high school and then I also teach at Alice gusterson and HC Storm and I also coach bavia girls basketball at the high school so um we're going to talk to you a little bit today about the Bulldog media team that's kind of part of our athletic department and then I'm going to let two of our student leaders talk for a
003little bit about kind of what they do some of their highlights and all that um if you go to the next slide please so um a little bit about the team so we have 77 students currently involved on our team um it really kind of started up this year so to have that number already is really exciting for us we started with I think about 30 or so last year and really grew a lot more this year um there's a lot of different roles for our students on this team so first one our broadcasters and camera operators so they're really in charge of helping make sure the broadcasts runs smoothly um operating the cameras on the field up in the box and just kind of making sure everything's going right um we also have photographers
004and videographers so if you've seen any students at any of our sporting events they wear these shirts on the sidelines they have our passes and they take photos and videos for social media for coaches to use to be put on Twitter Instagram kind of just for everything um our Graphics too and then we have our tech crew and producers um those students help with again running the broadcast running everything kind of on the back end um social media coordinators they work with our coaches in order to run their individual social media accounts because some of our coaches are not the best with their Tech and that's okay and then we have our team graphic designers um they help with the game Day graphics that you've probably seen on Twitter final score Graphics senior night Graphics
005kind of all that stuff they help make those for coaches um and then we do have quite a bit of Faculty involvement and support I just want to list a couple people there so um Inc incubator 2 and Link athletic internships so those are um Dennis Pon runs both of those classes at our high school um he's kind of like our go-to in the building for our students in terms of when they need to be asking questions or getting resources he kind of houses all that in those two courses um and he just does a really nice job of organizing the students and helping them reach their potential and all of those um and then his two courses offer a unique experience where we can partner with them um in order to allow those students
006students to experience those different roles on our media team um then Dave Andrews is our athletic director um he really provides his support with everything we do and he thinks it's a great way for us to showcase our school's athletic programs um and also our athletes through our own students creativity um and then Dr Smith has also been really supportive of our media team as well um as it just overall continues to allow students to work on their passions and grow as Leaders um so our leaders this year are Hunter and Micah and they're going to kind of talk to you guys about what our broadcast team actually does and then some other highlights from the year so I'll let you guys talk okay yeah so first I would like to thank just everyone as
007citizens of bavia and part of our community for the continued support of first our broadcast team and then the actual media team which is what this kind of BR uh branched out into so we started off as a broadcast team it was probably three to four kids all seniors last year who graduated and just holding handheld mics and kind of trying to get a product out there now through that we have grown into the media team and something that produces student produced student run student organized broadcasts whether that's announcing actually producing it and getting it online or filming the games we have a giant team that can get out a really great product we were looking at the stream yesterday and we were just noticing the crystal clear quality of the camera and the audio
008that we're hearing and the graphics that we're putting up so it's really become kind of an all-encompassing broadcast that's getting close to like that college level or that professional sport level one that you can see I mean it's great for the community of bavia and basically I just want to highlight a few things that we do with that before we move on to highlights of the entire media team uh we do interviews during the game like halftime we do interviews after the game with our athletes and get them exposure we throw up graphics on there with stats um we put them up with things before the game of rosters and we really just do a great job covering the games and it's basically all student Le so it's a really great thing that we've done
009and I'm going to hand it off to Micah to kind of talk more about metrics and some other stuff with the media team thank you guys all right um so some things that we've had recently uh multiple features with huddles game of the week uh they're the company that we use their software through and it works hand inand with a lot of the uh film that the sports use so it's easy to access some of the analytics we've had uh total loads so like the amount of people that have tuned in have been around 53,000 um about our highest count was the St Charles North otavia game that reached about 6,000 people for viewership time uh our Marquee game of the week was the St Charles North otavia game that was fun to do and
010partner with them so we'd like to thank them for that and we broadcast a lot of different sports some of the sports I've done that I've helped broadcast were girls volleyball and girls golf along with the football games we've done soccer and in the past we've done basketball and all the spring Sports so yeah some other stuff we do we integrate a lot with social media so we like to bring social media presence and promote the product through social media uh we have a lot of people who are interested in photography due to the classes at Pavia high school with that also being said the video production helps us find camera operators for the football games uh we collaborate with batv this Friday I'll be on the broadcast for batv so that's something that we're
011excited for being able to collaborate with a great organization like they are um we're doing Outreach to help senior citizens with these flyers that we passed around to the board uh it's helped try and promote and make it easier for senior citizens who aren't as Tech abled as we are and then the uh the distance Madness success uh Hunter can tell you more about that but it was a lot of success with uh track and we got a lot of viewership with that so I'll hand it back over to Hunter yeah just really quick talking about that one uh we actually got our highest broadcast ever on the distance Madness event it's a cross country event um I think there's just schools from all over the state of Illinois that come to our Fieldhouse and
012they run and it's one of the biggest events if not the biggest for track indoor in Illinois and I think we ended up getting 5,400 6,000 view viewers on that um which is pretty much onard of for what we were doing for our track broadcast at the time that was a really big achievement for us and I think we're going to hand it back to Alex now and kind of wrap things up awesome thanks guys um so I'll just kind of wrap this up here but overall we feel there's so many benefits for students with this program um obviously the power of creative skills within Athletics but it also goes beyond that this can be applied to real real world experiences and um kind of lots of and things like that um Mr Kim is
013featured up in our board here so um collaboration and teamwork these students are not only working with each other but they're getting to work with admin and our building teachers and we think that's really awesome for them um storytelling Mastery they're getting to tell story through their preferred methods so whether it's photography videography writing they get to do what they're good at and tell that story um we obviously see this as a career pathway sports management Sports media it's exploding right now so this is a really cool start for kids that are interested in that and then obviously building confidence U Micah got the interview of Mr Kim over here which is a pretty rare experience for high school kids so um lots of opportunities to be lead leaders and build confidence and then just
014lastly just kind of some of our goals for the future um obviously we want to continually improve quality and instruction for our creators um and then we want that increased exposure for not only the student creators but also our athletes it provides them with more opportunity for Collegiate athlete experiences and things like that um and then opportunities for students who are interested in this career in either sports management broadcasting Media or digital marketing we want them to have those experiences here so they can leave with that and carry that with them into college um and then lastly we see this as a potential to maybe even build into a Hands-On academic program at matavia high school um so on our last slide here there is a QR code this is the link to our huddle
015page so if you have not caught a broadcast yet please check out our games on there um you can watch old ones or if you're interested in seeing them do anything live you can email me or coach Pon and we can definitely get that set up or if you just want to meet with them and talk um anything like that we can definitely get set up so thank you guys thank you very much anyone have any comments or questions for them at all give you guys right amazing thank you very much it's a nice to see something and this is something we're going to kind of continue with the celebrating success and I really love the fact that it's something I didn't know much about so thank you for bring it to us great job
016guys all right next um we have a um approval of student ambassadors to office so uh I'd like to thank Danielle and uh Aon kilberg and Joanne Smith for taking the time to meet with the students who applied uh for this role I know both of our board members expressed how difficult this process was because every student interviewed uh presented a really amazing reason and highly qualified to participate in the program on behalf of the administration the board Representatives I am presenting Grace Nelson and Ka olberg as your new additions to the board ambassador program we get to do the fun Reading part in a minute so get to that so I will entertain a motion to approve the addition of Grace Nelson and Ka overberg to the office of student ambassadors so moved don't

021provider uh for the last eight years until July when I moved to St Charles because I just had the bad feeling about the new company that was coming to bavia organic life now that the school year start has started I realized that I was correct to be concerned the prior two years I've been working at the coffee bar at the bavia high school the coffee bar was always busy and boy's kids laughed their milkshakes now you might think this think morning coffee was the most important thing about the coffee bar but in fact the most important was the connection to the special education program we helped special needs students gain work experience and essential skills the students would make drinks and milkshakes and take orders from the customers they loved working at the coffee bar
022this this helped them Gain real word experience for from for when they graduate and need to get a job in our community before I left bavia High School in May the manager of organic life Joe Joe arvia has assured me that they would be keeping the coffee bar available so the students in bavia special education program could continue to learn ensal skills this was also even said in front of the Pavia High School administration Josh Bullock however it has come to my attention that this program is no longer happening starting in August the coffeee bar size was altered to be so small that the students cannot even come in to help in fact the coffee bar is completely closed as of right now and not running uh I would like to ask bavia High School
023to make sure this program is back and running after all these students will likely become future employees in our comp community in fact they are I've been seeing them and working in jeel and and various other places another so that's the one thing I wanted to talk about was U for two years I was working with these kids and they did such a great job um another thing I was I have to hurry up another thing I would like to make you aware of organic life let go a vital employee to bavia high school Valerie also Alon had worked at bavia high school as a lanal manager for more than 30 years she worked worked for many food service providers throughout her career in bavia high school however last week Val was let go now
024let me tell you more about Val she is one of the hardest working employee I have ever known she was always at bavia high school from 6:00 in the morning mind you this job requires to be on your legs all the time from unloading delivery in the freezer to working around the hot oven stoves she did it she was an essential employee during Co and made sure our community was well fed thank you that's the end of your time our next speaker is Donna Johnston um this is my first time to attend a meeting so I was totally unaware of how the procedure especially the time limit uh and I'm not comfortable addressing groups but it came to my attention that a book uh was being uh taught I believe uh in the sophomore literature
025class called The Good Mother I believe is the name of this book and I expected many people to be speaking so I'm going to be clearly the least prepared but this book is incredibly are any of you familiar with it are there any parents here of of I was going to read an excerpt from this book but it is so beyond the pale of of perverted pornographic sexually explicit minimizes the content of this book and this is being taught to our 16-year-olds and uh the teacher defended it saying I wanted them to see a different world view and see motherhood from the perspective of China which I found unusual do we not have so many examples of our own American mothers that have been uh you know stalard examples or other uh mothers in literature
026whether it's uh from The Good Earth or Grapes of Wrath you know the mother and grandmother aren't even named it's just Ma and Grandma and yet they were the matriarchs they were the strength that got them through that horrific time this book not only does it does it send this message of perverted sexual content but it also um demeans our boys it this the one of the characters and again the excert is so horrific that I came prepared to read it but if I'm the only one speaking on this book then I feel like I can't but how does that make our young men it isn't just what it does to our young girls again these are 16-year-olds and um I would encourage and and strongly ask the board to look into this book to
027uh uh question the teacher what her thought process was why did she feel that our girls or our young men need to see motherhood from the perspective of China China of all places with their one child um policy that they had for over 40 years where millions of uh female babies were U thrown in the river and tossed in the trash and um this one alarming statistic that they estimate 191 million people have died in the 19th century from global conflict and that equals the number of female babies that have died from infanticide because of sex chosen abortions 191 million um so this why China and to call it the good mother it had nothing to do with motherhood as we know it and as we support it and embrace it so um this is
028clearly I mean we have 73% of people advocating for school choice this is a good reason thank you so much our final speaker is Andrew worth good evening president meow members I wasn't planning to speak today today either I appreciate where you're coming from here um I'm sure most of you are aware by now that there was a hold at the middle school because there was a security incident today you mentioned that you don't address questions and you won't respond I appreciate that especially in light of the fact that 20 seconds are gone already just a little bit of food for thoughts and things to think about as we're going forward um I I was told that if you have any additional information regarding the matter have any question questions or concerns please feel free
029to contact the RMS school office at that's the end of the email there's no phone number now I know where the phone number is so it's not really that big of a deal what is a big deal is it's attention to detail and it's facts and it's giving people notice some questions that I have we were said when I came in and spoke with you this afternoon that there's an abundance of caution that needs to be undertaken in these circumstances um as I understand it a a spent shell casing was found in one of the classrooms what would I would like to know and we'll address in writing further is what time was RMS placed on a hold status who chose to do that how and when were students faculty and staff made aware of
030the hold status and by whom for students that were say like in the cafeteria today when the hold was initiated what were they told who told them and when were they told what's the district policy for notification of students and parents when any action is taken pursuant to the EOP quick guide making reference to there's probably one somewhere in this building it's it's just a little guide that tells you in an emergency you can either have a hold secure lock down evacuate shelter most people are familiar with something like that in some context um the districts being on the website one of the things that it mentions is a hold and it says students are to clear the hallways and remain in the room or area that they're in until an all clear is announced
031I'd like to know when the all clear was sounded what what time that was at who lifted it I'd like to know if anyone was allowed in or out of the school or in out of the room or area that they were in while the hold was still in effect if so who and who gave the Authority or permission to do that it seems like if there's a policy we should follow it if it's safe for people to move around the school then we don't need the hold if it's not safe and the hold is in place people shouldn't be moving around the school also I shouldn't find out from my student in a text about this over half an hour before the district or the school lets me know what's going on the bavia
032police department was worse thank you Mr thank you that's the end of our public thank you Andrew Agnes and Donna for coming today all right next is our BPS Partners Bea Drew Ray how you doing today Drew good how are you good thank you um it's abundantly clear that there's an action-packed agenda for tonight's meeting so I'm going to try to be brief with my comments um so very exciting I voted today uh on my lunch break uh I went with my wife and we brought our daughter Leona and the uh the kind lady that hands out the ballots she gave Leona two I voted early stickers which completely made Leona's day um it was a lot of fun so uh if you'll bear with me I'd like to geek out um for a moment
033it's probably the social studies teacher in me but I still get butterflies in my stomach when I go to vote and I was thinking about that as I was standing in line today um I'm always an OD that you know I'm able to take part in that Democratic process and to know that there's other parts of the world where that is uh you know that right that privilege is is not afforded to some people um so you know again it's something I take very seriously and voting always makes me think of my favorite part of the US Constitution the Preamble and if you thought uh or wondering if I was going to read it to you yes I'm going to read you the Preamble of the Constitution it says we the people of the United
034States in order to form a more perfect union establish justice ensure domestic tranquility provide for the common defense promote the general welfare and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity do ordain and establish this constitution for the United States of America a more perfect union that is a magical phrase to me I look at that concept of a more perfect union as something to strive towards and the institution of voting uh is accepting that challenge it's a challenge to all of us that no matter what no matter our differences it is all of our duty to constantly try and do better unless we forget that our constitution was born out of compromise if you know your history of the Constitutional Convention they clearly missed the mark on some things but this great
035experiment might have never come into exist we're not for that compromise and maybe that's something as a school district that we can take away from the birth of our large Republic we're kind of going after the same thing right we the people of bavia public schools in order to make a more perfect District a lot of the founding still applies common goals balancing the diversity of opinions and interests compromising collaborating musings of a social studies teacher on a Tuesday night indeed but a more perfect district is something that I think that we're all working towards and speaking of democracy on November 13th the Illinois Education Association Along with labor unions from across the state will head to Springfield to Lobby state legislators in order to undo the tier 2 retirement system in a nutshell the
036tier 2 system means that Educators firefighters nurses and other public employees that started their careers after January 1st 2011 have to work until the age of 67 to retire with full benefits our peers hired prior to the state receive their full benefits if they work until age 55 with 35 years of service if if you are tier two there is also a drastic difference in the salary your retirement income will be based upon and on the cost of living adjustments your pet uh pension earns postretirement this model is not sustainable and it hurts public education as a district I think we're incredibly ahead of the curve in our collective bargaining agreement in terms of our approach to supporting tier 2 Educators however this system is causing many to switch careers or choose not to begin
037a career in education in the first place so I would encourage anyone regardless of age regardless of profession to go to fix tier 2.com that's the number two fixer 2.com to learn more and find ways to take action thank you for giving me the time to speak tonight uh happy belated band books week go vote go Bulldogs solidarity forever with our brothers and sisters and besta good night and good luck that's true all right I'm actually GNA introduce Kevin who I think is going to introduce somebody else today so yes you are correct I will speak only briefly and then I get to introduce um someone who's been a great uh help in her short time as as best's Treasurer which has been about six months now um but has been a tremendous help uh
038personally to me because I'm one of those well they refer to them as a senior citizen who's not very Tech Advanced I prefer the term ex uh seasoned uh citizens but in any case uh she works at Rola Middle School where she is a great benefit to all of us there her name is uh someone well Jillian thored but she's our treasur at best bun someone I think and I hope you'll be hearing a lot more from uh in the future but please I'm going to introduce her let her tell you a bit about herself her family and then we'll wrap up our comments from besta for tonight Jillian hello um my name is Jillian as he said thorud um I am the treasurer of basa I also work at Rolo Middle School I'm the
039operations secretary there so I do everything MoneyWise which fits me well for Treasure um and then I also take care of Athletics at the middle school I am there with a excellent sta of Staff of people campus monitors I have an excellent three secretaries that I work with hand in hand I could not ask for a more awesome group there um along with administrators I've lived in matavia for 5 years now um I currently live with my husband and my two boys um actually one isn't home anymore um they both attended uh Grace MCW they attended my youngest attended Grace McBain my two boys were attended Rolo Middle School not when I was there um and then they both uh attended bavia High School my oldest Ben is currently going to Bradley University where my
040husband and I have met no coincidence there he actually chose to go there on his own um and he is uh studying electrical engineering my husband and I have been married for 20 years um he is best known I guess for his um demolition he is currently working on the Sears building if you're familiar in Hoffman Estates um he is the Chief Operating Officer for American demolition so he kind of does a lot he's a great resource for me um I have a younger son Tyler who is currently at the high school as a sophomore he is in tennis he is in the new e sports program which he is loving and he is also in chess so he is very busy also in the district um I currently actually hold a um teaching degree
041I actually went to Bradley for my elementary education taught middle school for three years um decided to take a step back let my husband's career go and I decided to take care of my boys so I did that for about 12 years ran my own inhome daycare after that when I wanted to get back into the field I actually worked for Target as HR so I have quite a variety of things in my pocket um that I look forward to Bringing towards this board and working with everyone um a couple things couple Hobbies I like to add in um I love to travel um we have a um camper up in the if you're familiar with delil Lake Area Wisconsin uh we go up there we go hiking we go fishing we go boating I
042love I'm a huge Disney fan if you ever see me I love everything Disney so you'll see all that um and then so I really look forward to working with this team here with administr ation with the board and with obviously um Bea as a partnership um so I just want to take a few minutes to introduce myself and it is an honor to meet all of you also so thank you thank you all right uh next is the new quartet of Sarah darit Grace and Ka there we go now we now we're up um so hi everyone we're the student ambassadors I'll reintroduce myself I'm Zora I'm jarit I'm Ka and I'm Grace and I want to say a huge congrats to you guys I know me and dar had a great time being
043student ambassadors and I know you guys will too um but we've had a a big week this week so a lot has happened um dance and football actually had their senior nights and it's actually so cool to see if you were there last Friday they all bring their baby photos so I think this is such a cute tradition you kind of see how they've grown up uh so that was super cool Friday exciting night and then we've also had some great wins with tennis they actually won their sectional championships and we have some athletes going to state so great work with them um oh um also the girls cross country won their Duane Championship or sorry not Championship Duane conference and the middle school girls their season just ended the middle school girls got sixth
044in state and the boys got eighth in state which is pretty incredible um and soccer and volleyball also both had their senior nights and they played really well and then some things that happened last week was best buddy had a Halloween party where they had a pumpkin painting contest um and from the looks of it it looks like they had lots of fun with a lot of artistic paintings so um yeah and then there was also open circle that hosted a ice cream social and I attended and it was super fun it honestly was just a big hangout with food ice cream and music so yeah that was really fun um also highlight there's a lot of Honor societies that are starting up their events so seniors are definitely getting involved with extracurriculars a highlight
045to specific event women in stem actually partnered up with uh science National Honor Society and they brought in guest speakers I was lucky enough to attend this event they brought in like two Engineers they talked about their experience working their education how they got there so it was def we're lucky to hear about their experiences and we learned a lot from that so it was a great event all right the musical this year is called songs for New World by Jason Robert Brown and basically the concept of it is it's talking about how the choices that you make can affect the world that you're in um I'm in the musical so that's one reason you should come see it um it's pretty cool there's two casts of characters um and and sorry there's um all
046of the songs that are in it deal with lots of different ways that people can cope with issues like isolation versus connection hope versus despair um resilience and perseverance change and transformation and whatever and the goal of the musical is to have the audience in the actors reflect on their lives and see how the choices that they can make in the future and in the past have affect Ed their paths and yeah where they're going and then music has been super big right now so we have five choirs four orchestras and four bands along with a lot of extracurriculars and in the past week they've all had concerts so big shout out to them and then bavia marching band their season just ended and tomorrow is the banquet but they were they had their most
047successful season so first at every single competition and then at ISU they got second in their class and 13th in state so it's a pretty big win and then we've won General effect at three of those competitions and best percussion all right and that's all we have for you guys thank you so much thank you good first start all right uh board liaison reports any committee reports soe do you have one start at your end sure um the beefy uh met last month and we're meeting again next on Thursday so um the Hall of Honor nominations are now open so there's anyone nominate you can get that in davia foundation.org um they added up all the years of teaching amongst the board members and it came to 2 23 years so our board consists of
048223 years teaching thought that was interesting um the we are working on a beefy funded scholarship so not only the other scholarships we have but the bavia foundation is actually going to be having its own scholarship going forward next year um and that'll be starting in January um we haven't finalized any of the details that'll come Thursday we're working on that but we've come up with the idea so we are very close to our $1 million goal of when the organization started out say it was 196 something about right yeah um I think everybody had an idea of raising a million dollars and kind of living off the endowment at that point you know that doesn't mean you're never going to fund raise but that was kind of just the Pioneer Sky goal and we
049were very close to doing that at this point um some good news um I think Dennis was here earlier be beefy X is kind of a bank in some sorts we hold money for some organizations around the schools um chip in uh the robotics you know we just kind of funnel we hold money it's kind of a part of being a 501c3 charity um but Dennis's incubator organization recently got a grant from the Dunham foundation so he's been doing some work in his room there at the high school um and I believe Dominic got some money yes yes okay I didn't know if I could talk about it yet or not um $9,000 Com Ed Grant um for impr the Fine Arts so maybe when you talk you might want to mention something about that
050um on March 22nd of next year we will be having our scholar or scavenger hunt so we still will be fundraising but going on with that um so that's about it but lots of new things coming up right thanks you rob do you want to take R from Capital so yeah I mean I think top that million dollars I won't be able to talk that but uh but I think Mark and Tony are going to give like these awesome presentations they're just going to spend money Capital project plan updates and enrollment projections and forecast so uh I won't steal their Thunder that's that's coming up here later in the meeting okay so um plaque they met in uh September the October meeting got cancelled so just kind of went re introductions to everybody um they
051updated some of the language um they talked about their Retreat that they had um talked about the AI learning survey updated their plaque web page um talked about the Institute days and the results surveys that were back from the very first Institute day um and that was really about it for the policy meeting um we went over a lot of policies they're in tonight's agenda so I'm just going to touch on some of the ones um the 2.26 5 which is a big one that's just the title change for the most part 2.40 which is about board member They just added Infamous crimes to our board member qualifications in case anyone was going to run again or someone's going to run um yeah uh 2.27 that's a brand new policy so you might want to
052read that um 5.1 was just rewrote mandatory trainings to funnel them into eight different areas uh 4.8 they raised the max balance to the revolving front from $500 to $1,000 sue you know it's not a million but there you go um 5.1 5.2 7.1 2.27 2.65 is a lot of this the wordings changed um 7.20 updated Pages 1 14 and five to go with 2.65 is wording uh 7.1 page uh that's about our vaccinations and ours was more of a homegrown policy uh and now we're using the Press version of the date um of when they should have vaccinations submitted and it's only vaccinations we also discussed that we will review procedures and Exhibits that are not press uh but that are homegrown uh procedures and Exhibits will review them as a board great thank
053you a lot of work huh yeah was a lot yeah a lot of work thank you um Aon is off on a work event so you covered the policy portion for him so RJ anything to add no no um the Insurance isn't going to meet until next month okay wait no no no I mean last last meeting we we um approved the changes to the insurance policy so the message went out to the faculty about that um right after that so nothing since then okay thank you any um I did not I wasn't able to attend Equity or oh my gosh I want to say plaque that's what I was on last year CAC thank you um so I don't know if you would want to present anything is there anything that you feel is
054important um for equity and Brad sorry to put you guys on the spot but I don't know if there's anything outside of what we'll cover in the agenda that you feel is important for the board I just feel like since I wasn't there I don't really I don't the update sure um for the equity committee I'd say that um we were able to have a a really deep dive discussion about how we wanted with a new strategic plan move our committee uh committee's focus and work for the district and how we want also support our other existing standing committees such as plaque rack and CAC um student services team and take a look at what the roles are with the equity committee there one of the things that and Drew if I if I I'm
055trying to capture everything you and I have time on with the committee but one of the things that we also shared was uh how do we C capture the momentum on Gathering the student voices that we did in the spring that that work we did there and keep moving that forward and build on that so I think you know we've been doing that now you know we talked a little bit about panorama survey as an example of how we're we're trying to expand the reach of getting our students voices into the front part of our work as a district and so um we're going to continue these conversations we gave an update to our district coordinating Council which is the DCC our new committee that was formed after the last uh baa contract was agreed
056upon um in 2023 and so um gave that update there Dre and I are co-chairing of the equity committee and we're going to bring that Equity committee back together and get some updates and keep that that working conversation moving forward so that's Equity Committee in terms of the curriculum assessment advisory Council CAC um we had a dayong meeting which sounds painful but it actually was great um we had really honest Frank great conversation around improving our team uh we want to function at our best so we had discussion around what we can do to improve our team and then there's a couple of agenda items that the board will see um tonight that were recommended to Mr Kim and then on the agenda okay thank you I don't have anything further to add so we
057shall move on to consent agenda according to our board policy we designate a portion of the agenda as a consent agenda for those items that usually do not require extensive discussion board to action the items are generally teen recurring and can be grouped together for efficiency Steve would you like to share anything before we take action it's really kind of a choice voice if you want I'm going to I'm going to share the agenda or the uh Report with you all right 6.1 6.2 is the approval of the September 17 2023 regular and Clos session meeting minutes 6.3 is the uh Personnel report uh 6.4 is the uh approval of our monthly payrolling bills 6.5 is the destruction of our closed session recordings from March 21st to3 uh 6.6 are is the acceptance of two
058donations we're uh thankful and grateful to the uh Hendrickson fund of CER County and Naples Florida as well as Hansen Chiropractic for their generous uh donations 6.7 is the review of our close session minutes 6.8 is the authorization or authorize the application for the fiscal year 25 School maintenance project Grant 6.9 is the approval of um BHS overnight field trips there are a total of three of them I believe 6.10 is the authorization of a disposal of surplus property 6.11 is the special education contracts and 6.12 is the approval of our consent agenda anyone have any questions or comments all right I will entertain a motion to approve of all items in the consent agenda as presented so move by Sue second by RJ s would you leave us please lead us in a roll
059call Vote Yes yes yes meows yes yes Thomas yes thank you reports Tom is there anything to share this evening under reports or would you'd like to share the things under report sure I'll be handling fo requests those have been presented to the board um six were granted one was denied this this time around all right Tony treasur report nothing out of the ordinary to report uh there's a brief Narrative of what's contained the actual attached files thank you Capital project plan Mark no did I skip oneart it's the bavia Fine Arts Center yeah Dominic I'm sorry wellding back there my glasses you wanted to keep me really short is what it was um yes uh any other questions you have after the meeting I'm I'm happy to answer but I'm delighted to stand here
060and let you know a little bit more about what is happening at the Fine Arts Center uh in the past uh and coming up here in the future we have a robust internship program which is uh so it's a it's it's a finite amount of time because we aim to get these students off of the internship program and hired uh we want to be one of the first places that they work especially in the Arts and we have everything from uh behind uh behind the scenes to uh hospitality and front of house positions whenever we're doing something there are students involved with it some exciting things that we also have partnering with people around the country and into our schools is uh we have next slide please we have so we have B twins coming
061which they've been there in the past and these two gentlemen grew up in Brazil uh as they quote call it the slums of Brazil where their father taught them how to create make and use string instruments which has become their life every fifth grader in our district will come for free at a assembly to see that not only that during the day our video production class will sit in our new control room and stream out the event to any other classrooms that want to watch it live during the day not only that I have more for you that evening the students have the opportunity to come back to an evening show for free with their entire family of up to six because some of us have large families uh that is all paid for by
062the generosity of the Dunham fund and ComEd powering the Arts uh so that is one of our great arts in Ed initiatives this year we have a second one coming up next month and that is uh take three and we will have all of our string players in the middle school and the high school attend a completely free workshop and again in the evening all of those students and up to five other people in their family can come to the evening performance absolutely free of charge by the uh exact same Grant so as you can see we we bring in some national tours to provide an experience for our students every single one of them is uh is run by and students work on you see Paul Riser there the spotlight was operated by students
063uh spotlights a little heavy so they rotated they rotated on and off who was spotting him uh Jane Lynch is pictured there she came in and did a great presentation to and with our students and then all of those other ones we have work from students happening there so let's talk a little bit about tickets you know how how many people come through the Fine Arts Center this is a general graph bonus points to anyone who picks out Co in there um uh we you can see though the general trajectory is going up this is only for tickets sold we don't have data on actual people who come to general admission and non-ticketed things but we do see the impact we're having even larger because of our new streaming services as well how are rentals
064doing rentals are another way that our students get involved because each of the rentals students who have either gone through the internship are working there and getting paid there because we want them off that internship within 7 to 14 months or their training and learning life skills during that rental and emergency procedures and how do we open a building and how do we work with clients and they are the ones who are doing those things this just shows you that General trajectory is the same as the previous slides General trajectory so let's talk about how much uh some things cost there this is over the past uh eight years the toal total expenses were that five my eyes are bad here 5.1 approximately million the revenue being approximately 4.8 in that time period which means
065the total cost over8 years was $290,000 when it should have been $1.2 million because it costs approximately $150,000 each year on average amateu ised out so as you go up it gets a little bit more but uh on average each year just for our district events that's solely the district events that are here so all of those other things I previously talked to you about are helping pay for all of that so instead of 1.2 it's 290 now let's let's see what else we do because we're not busy enough what we have is we are working on conference rooms around here we uh we designed and implemented the camera and streaming system in here and that's the control room that I previously mentioned and let's let's go to the next slide and just see a
066little bit if you can play that video this is a combination for you of how we offer things this was our heart byhe heart national tour this has the original drummer from the band har and the original basist from heart these if you'll remember a couple years ago are the cameras that were purchased to create our control room and a system for our students you can see the basist right there and then shortly you're going to see the drummer they are using this video now themselves in their promotional material and it was live streamed out and it's available for on demand purchase if anyone would like to do such a thing but here's the greatest part about all of this this is is not done by anyone but these people that you're seeing right here
067we have our series of interns that are working and learning on professional grade equipment that is in CBS Studios itself in California and that is their product that is on their resume and that is something that they will forever get to say that they have worked on um so I think that's pretty incredible for them to be able to do that and that is that's a little bit about what we're doing uh thank [Laughter] you Dominic thank you anybody have any questions for Dominic if you want to ask him now okay thanks Dominic amazing Mark should have gone up [Laughter] beforehand it works I guess oh look at H's right on it thank you so the first thing uh we're going to talk about for this report is what we did last fiscal year and
068this was done over the winter um I already brought this to you as far as an action item to get the weight room floor at the high school replac so this is one before picture and this is what it looks like now um it was a huge Improvement um it's been used used obviously since about middle middle of January so far um and again I think the numbers continue to go up every time I go in there and even when I was trying to take you know today's type of shots um I had to wait because there was like you know 75 to 100 kids in there so it's very hard to take lots of pictures so hly if you want to keep going through here you'll just see when I brought this you notice
069the bubbling in the floor I mean I can remember at least four or five times those were tried to you know fix with different contractors inhouse um and if you continue you know that's what a weight room floor should look like so I think there's one more in here Holly just so you can andness see obviously it was um that product was different so that was in larger squares this is what we call a roll rolled product so it's in large sheets basically large rolls that's why it's called A World product um then the next one on here is from this past summer so the project it's in um was kind of well three different projects all together though there was the Fieldhouse exterior the pavi art Fine Art Center exterior and then the Fieldhouse
070interior and this is well hopefully you know this is a before picture then I tried to capture as best as I could what it now looks like today so again you can kind of just go through these hle um gutters all the gutters were replaced um and as you can see in here everything was painted um cracks were sealed um basically just taking care of that shell um this is also a picture of this would be the north side with the leaking yters that's not leaks obviously the concrete needs to be cleaned right there but um then we're on to the fire Art Center um this first one if I I just made you aware of this fine art center with a couple pictures but it's really hard to see when the tuck pointing is
071is done and the ceiling is done um if you go to the next picture um it is in there um and then the next one will be um a little easier most of you if you sit in the stadium at all and depending on what timeing if you look at that shot that's what it looked like before and this is what it looks like now um that's very important that's 45 ft wall um and I know I've May said this well I presented this at Rack so I know I said it rack but there was Daylight up towards the top of that inside um so that has been fixed um and Dominic even mentioned he knew exactly when was fixed because you could tell the sound was different and I believe it was one of
072the days that the band was practicing outside you could really tell the difference with that um then some interior looks at this so This was done the flooring was completely redone uh the mats painted and new lights so before and after and then this one you can kind of see the new lights as well um this is just a closer up of the um in surface so basketball volleyball plays on that um so that is what the new one looks like these are just some more pictures of before and afters and so far um this is what we're not even two months into it that was a picture of the mat that's the new mats um a lot of the biggest difference I know people have said to me is they can feel the difference
073like well I just talked to one of the uh PE teachers about on walking on it like by the end of the day it just feels much different and that's just you know obviously the quality of floor um the next thing for coming up so this is is um what's going to come in this fiscal year um some of it is going to be started quickly um and this would be one of them so the tennis courts so these are four pictures of what it looks like currently this is just kind of an overview of it and the major part of here is the cracking that's happening and you can see in some of these pictures um this was last done in 2016 and these have gotten I mean this is today's pictures but I
074would say over the past probably three years it's gotten significantly worse so the goal is is by hopefully spring season um this will look much different the other the next picture or the next ones are so I'm going to talk a little bit more about HC Storm so HC Storm this project is part of um really kind of the one of the first major projects of Warren safe dry and this is what the current layout looks like and I know might be a little difficult to see but I'll start on the right hand side which is staying the same so that's where the gymnasium is and then right below that kind of where the half circle is that's the entry way as you walk in so you notice there you just walk into basically an
075Atrium that leads directly into the cafeteria or into what is a kindergarten room in a music room and then you would have to walk walk straight into the office so if you kind of I'll leave it on there for a little bit Holly if you look the other part is if you go kind of the bottom part if anybody's a little closer can see I think it should say b0 B1 and B2 those classrooms are getting renovated and those three rooms are going to turn into two kindergarten rooms and the plan for that is to get ready for full day Kinder Garden which I believe is fall of 27 for the state that you have to have it right 7 um the other piece what's going to happen here and is if you go to
076the next slide this is what it's going to become and now this is just a floor plan um you notice when you walk in there's two different points so though you're going to walk into a vestibule and then you have to go directly in the office so the office area is what's currently now the music room so that's going to be an office um and the nurse's office will be in that space and then you check in the office and then you either then you can go into the next room and then or the next vestibule and then if you needed to go to a classroom or something then that way you would basically be buzzed into those so all the doors are on a system where you have to you know release door One
077release door two release door three for you to that's just the security measures that are in place so now that we're we're taking that office area then the old office area is going to become a music room and a sensory otpt type room some other upgrades that's going to happen I talked before is the lower kind of middle here is going to be two kindergarten classrooms and both those classrooms will have bathrooms within the classroom some of the other upgrades that will happen that it's really kind of difficult to show on here but there will be a new roof all new exterior doors and windows also um what we call rooftop units so HVAC related heating ventilation and air conditioning that serve the entire school all of the pods the schools and pods so a
078rooftop unit will feed each one of the pods so there's four of them and those will all be replaced um other areas that will be done is some upgrades in for um Health Life Safety one of them in the very top you can kind of see it's like the top middle it's that will because of the type of building this is it has to have um fire rated walls so those walls will be updated in here the other piece you can kind of see in the upper leftand corner there looks like there's a little new doorway and that's also Health Life Safety related and that just there a doorway has to be put there for means of eress so as I said before this is kind of starting the fiscal year how it works in
079the summer is June 30th is the end of this fiscal year July 1 starts the next most of you know as far as well the work's going to get done this summer but most of like the payment of this work really comes next fiscal year so that's why you have to kind of go in between two fiscal years this is the first project so really by the end of this summer will be about 20% done with warm safe dry and that's something the board voted on in Winter of 2023 the next Project's laid out um after this so and really when I go back and look all these pictures I'm you know when I'm kind of doing projects and working I'm working in the summer of 25 and the summer of 26 already so it's
080good to go back and see him but in the summer of 26 this same project will be done at Louise White also with that is um back at storm and that summer will be some sight improvements done at storm cuz storm is our only um actually our only school that has one way in and one way out as far as um entrance as exit from there so that will change you'll hear more about that in a little while or not a little while next next time I'm up here in October of next year well probably not the next time I'm here because I'll be back next month to get approval on this because uh the bids will um go out for this project um for the storm project and the plan is if everything goes
081well I will bring this back next month for approval for um the actual contract work on this the other projects that are in the future I'm have a lot to do with um well there's some to do with health Life Safety but a lot to do with um HVAC there's parking lots um sewing will be a big one at the high school some renovation done um seawing and then um but more to come with that the other piece with warm safe dry is there was projects that were identified and really it's essential projects that had to be done U what I'm working towards besides a warm safe dry is what I like to call the capital Improvement type projects so the projects that you know not that these don't improve learning um but it's really
082the ones that you know kind of as I put like nice to have but also what we need to kind of get towards and move our district in that direction so these should be done in about 2029 2030 but um we really should be kind of thinking about that next step as well thank you any questions thanks Mark thank you uh next is Tony for enrollment projections thank you so our enrollment projections um are the basis for our five-year Financial forecast of course we need to have an idea of how many students that we can expect and so we do them each year when we update our fiveyear financial forast Holly if you wouldn't mind clicking on that link there and taking us to the enrollment projection we're going to take a look at this
083I'll run through of the Salient details here um if you would scroll down just a bit you'll see a green graph with bars on it this is our historical and projected enrollment for the next uh for the last five years the current year and then the next five years the bars that are kind of faded are the ones that we're projecting the enrollment in the district has been downward for about the last 10 to 11 years maybe 12 I don't remember exactly which at our Peak ter of enrollment we were at 6,300 students that we served we're right now at 5,247 and that is exactly one less than last year however last year when I shared this forecast with you we anticipated something like 80 students fewer so there are more students here this year
08480 more than we had otherwise expected now that's one of the flaws with this approach that we use this methodology for enrollment projections because we are using the past to predict the future and so this Yogi barer I always say I always joke about this y Yogi barrier would say something to the effect of you know like this works until it doesn't right you we don't have a crystal ball we don't know how many kids are going to show up here but we are using the last five years of that enrollment those enrollment patterns of you know let's say fourth graders that became fifth graders we're looking at that fifth grade class are there more fifth graders here than there were last year and we're looking at those patterns over the last 5 years to
085predict who's going to be here next year we also look at birth rate data so who was born in K County 5 years ago and what percentage of those students over the last five years have shown up in bavia schools enrollments are going down birth rates have been going down dramatically in K County birth rates were twice as much as they are today um and the variability in terms of how kids are born and who shows up in materi schools is varying more and more today than it has in the past and so it's very challenging to figure out how many kindergarteners we're going to have but these are what we call our home school enroles so depending on where you live in bavia schools which home school you're assigned to which Elementary School you're
086assigned to doesn't matter where you actually go but where you live means that you are a resident of bavia you go to bavia schools no matter which school you attend you're ours that's the total enrollment however there are some students who might have special needs and we cannot serve them in their regular home school and so we have fewer students who actually attend our schools they about 70 to 80 students who we outplaced because we can't meet their needs in our schools so on the next graph on the next page we're looking at those enrollments please what do you refer to students that are homeschooled homeschooled are generally not enrolled so if you're a homeschooled student sometimes you come to our schools for services and um you wouldn't be considered enrolled okay depending on what
087portion of your day that you're coming sometimes you can be partially enrolled and we would C you as a fraction I was just Yogi Bear would wonder why Yogi be would homeschool students are not listed on the home school list that's funny I never thought about that homeschooled and home enrollments yeah we our definition for home is just a little different but that's a that's a pretty Keen observation all right yeah might need an asteris there I think that's a good idea I'll put a footnote there this contemplates serving schools as I mentioned and this color codes elementary middle and high and you can see there's variation in there so as our enrollment has declined it's obviously it hits the high school last and we're just now seeing the declining enrollment over these last five
088years hit our high school and we're seeing that you our enrollment at the high school for many many years was roughly about 2,000 students and we're seeing that kind of stabilize it somewhere around 1,600 students and I and that's about a stable enrollment so on the prior slide we see that stabilizing enrollment we don't see declines anymore we're seeing enrollment equalize but it does fluctuate between the levels so whereas in the past when we looked at our financial forecast we're saying we're losing students therefore to maintain the proportions of Staffing that we've been accustomed to we could shed staff and still make do that's not the case anymore we're very near stable enrollments so we cannot anticipate anymore fewer staff members it's going to be roughly the same and staff me Members may need to
089be reassigned or moved between different School different levels but that that the overall te in terms of Staff should stay the same and when I say reassigned I don't necessarily mean you know we're pulling out a teacher and saying youve been teaching at the elementary school it's going to be great when you're teaching next year seniors at the high school you know obviously we're not doing things like that it would be a function of attrition and you know where Staffing are so we don't expect people to necessarily have to move although that is a possibility um but overall uh enrollment is stabilizing um we're seeing more kindergarteners than we would otherwise expect um um I don't know if that will continue um and the other thing is is we always get asked is what about
090the new developments in particular Ashton Ridge that's the new development that just started in the last month or so next to HC Storm School are those numbers included in here and the answer to that simply is no um again because our methodology is we're looking at the past to predict the future but one caveat to that is down the street where we have the Winding Creek development that's in the grace MCW boundary area that development now has been underway I believe for two maybe three years or somewhere there in between and those students have been included in those numbers and so that development has been coming online and so those numbers those enrollments are baked in it's very challenging to estimate how many kids are going to come from a Housing Development it's easy to
091do it on very large and high level Global numbers but it's very challenging to do on a small scale especially when you're thinking of like how many kids are going to be in fourth grade that live in this new Ashton Ridge Development it's it's almost impossible to do um at least accurately uh some more information here about student demographics and exits but I'll let you read that um and but aside from that unless you have questions about enrollment we can move on to the fiveyear financial forecast I have a good question what's the mobility mean Mobility is just as a function of the number of students coming and going from our school district so it includes both new students enrolled this year and students who left so it's just a percentage of our overall population
092that were came or went from our school district in the last school year you're talking about the our uh enrollment is stabilizing um what's the retirement class look like for educators this year do we know how many are going to retire good question for State yeah it's probably like eight to 10 at the max nothing like last year it's kind of back what it kind of what it's been traditionally although I do have a couple of appointments coming up so it could grow a little bit so not necessarily maybe having someone move but just maybe not fill any position right other questions yeah just start at one0 um do you have and maybe you don't know this but do you have an idea is is this like that lower Trend and then the stabilization is
093that our surrounding districts is that also what they're seen too or every district is has different circumstances that they face but I would say the vast majority of school districts say the yeah the majority of school districts are seeing declining enrollments unless there's something different going on in those local communities and predominantly that's the case in King County and a lot of that has to do with birth rats and it's not even an Illinois phenomenon it's it's a nationwide phenomenon 46 has declined greatly their their enrollment has gone thousands of students and so they've been talking what to do with some of their buildings now one interesting factoid by the way too to add to that is that Chicago has seen declining enrollment for I want to say 20 years but in the last two
094they've actually seen an uptick in enrollment which is strange in terms of what they have been seeing so again Yogi bar would say it works until it doesn't so all right baring that then we'll move on to the fiveyear financial forecast and Holly if you just hit the back button there and C that yep perfect thank you we're going to take a couple of different looks at our finances and try to think of it I guess in terms of your your maybe your home finances the first graph really looks at the net amount of money keep scrolling right down the net amount of money that comes into and out of your bank account over the course of a year just in terms of its volume and you see there's a people usually get startled here
095when they see this they're like there's a massive deficit there and there is in 2026 there is a massive deficit but it was planned so last year when the board adopted warm safe dry we committed some 55 plus million dollars to keeping our schools warm safe and dry and the ways that we were going to finance that are twofold one our operating revenues that we get in a given year we're going to pledge more and more of that money um about $5 million right now each year toward financing those projects and that growing at a considerable clip at 15% per year and fund balance and so what that 2026 um deficit is driven by is the operating contributions for capital projects in that year and transferring fund balance to the capital projects fund to pay
096for that project we're going to start work on HC Storm school this summer that's 2025 the 2025 fiscal year and a lot of those bills are going to come due the vast majority of those bills are going to come due in the fiscal 26 Calendar and so we have to have the money there to pay for those projects and we're putting a little bit more into that capital projects fund so that we can just do it in kind of one Fell Swoop you can see what's happening here on the next page is a look at our fund balances basically how much money we have saved in the bank in 2025 at the end of the fiscal year we expect to have some $70 million in fund balance and we're going to transfer some $20 million
097to the capital projects fund to pay for those amounts in 26 so our piggy bank goes down with that dashed red line across those bars is our minimum fund balance that we need to maintain for from from a board policy standpoint so that we have enough money on hand to pay our bills what we don't want to go back to are the days that weren't so long ago that am always obliged to talk about our tax anticipation warrants which are effectively payday loans so that we could pay for all of our bills and our payrolls we had to borrow money to get through the year because we didn't have enough cash on hand at a considerable interest rate so that we could pay our bills until the next round of property taxes come came in
098we want to avoid that happening again so we don't want to get anywhere near that line good news is this is manageable for us and of course that fund balance has to increase a little bit every year because we we have more and more expenses every year that ratio the amount of cash that we need to have on hand and increases just a little bit every year so the good news here is we're going to spend some fund balance to get the work done that we need to do to get keep our schools warm safe and dry if we go to the next page we're looking at potential impacts to these projections we're looking at different things that could happen potentially just hypothesizing what might happen that would change some of our assumptions this is
099a forecast there's no crystal ball here we're making a lot of assumptions that rest upon assumptions that have to continue for the next five years keep going um we're looking at realistic best case scenarios and we're looking at realistic worst case scenarios and so a lot can change especially over the course of 5 years but the good news is even with what we think the most likely scenario our blue line if you keep going to that graph Holly we're going to be just above the black line where we break even keep going there so you see that dip in 26 we talked about that $23 million in that transfer uh and then you see that blue line continuing through 2030 it is going to be really tight in 2030 we're not going to have as
100much cash on hand I anticipate as we do now in terms of balances we're going to have to be very prudent with our finances but things change we could be closer to that green line where we have ample Surplus but things go against us it could be that red line where we're going to have to make some adjustments we'll see but 5 years is a long time to be hypothesizing so I other questions that you might have just yeah by the way this does include we're going to as Mark alluded to with the classrooms at storm kindergarten and bringing on um full-time kindergarten we're going to have to hire more kindergarten teachers our projections do anticipate that that's built in yeah so that would be the one area where we'd be adding staff to accommodate
101a program change that we know is is coming so that's already Big 10 all right that's all I have thanks Tony thank you all right as a reminder item 7.7 was stricken from the agenda so next is uh review and potential approval of the dashboard data dashboard Tom would you like to take the lead on this yes absolutely so board um this is a conversation we've had for a couple of board meetings now um if you recall this is a a string of work and conversations that have come from the Strategic plan work as well um so the data dashboard was a component of the plan um so I was asked if I could bring a recommendation from the administration side to the board as to what um you know we may want to consider
102in launching this data dashboard and and given the options have been presented to you um we are recommending that we move forward with the Panorama blended with the five laabs data which would be managed in-house by our District staff um as a starting point and I believe you've had an opportunity to see that the Panorama model which is the new survey tool we're using for SE work with our students features a dashboard that resembles those of some of our um other proposals that we we interviewed that Holly was able to explore for us in research so we're we're that's our recommendation is to go with the Panorama model that's also going to blend in five Labs if you're wondering why five Labs there are some components of that data that are like under strategic uh
103priority 3 are not data that's going to be captured by Panorama um those are data that um some of our leadership team is going to have to U kind of pull together on their own and then we'll use through um file labs and and some other tools that we'll be presenting on the dashboard such as operational up time something Dave has talked about before when presenting to software upgrades for approval you know those are some of the components that some of our Ops teams are going to uh continue to Monitor and look at all right so does the board have any questions for me or the administration or for each other so the uh and this D so the dashboard will presented to us I forgot was it every quarter the dashboard at the moment
104we had talked about um doing buying annually so by annually um this coming December will be our first very first time of you know rolling out a conversation around our data and we hope to have the dashboard completely ready and built out um if not we'll definitely have the data points still to talk about and then by and then the current model that we agreed on was come June we'll do that second follow-up report for the board and then we still review the states correct the states dashboard is that what uh what a report report the school report yes yes and there is a lot of overlap in the data that's in the school and district report card that's embargoed at the moment but will be released at the end of this month um a
105lot of those data points are a lot of overlap that we've talked about in our strategic plan work so when you're saying it's going to be reported to us isn't the dashboard going to be updated weekly the data yeah but we'll come here to talk about it okay as an entire board right yeah everybody we look at but we're going to actually talk about it as a to they'll have a counter as a topic okay y people that go in and look at our data I don't think we'll display that on the page big giant Banner seven eight yeah I think uh my my big concern with the five Labs was kind of the static imagery that went along with it and I think that's kind of what we've had in the past and um
106you know BAS Bas on feedback and what I know about it I didn't think was very user friendly um after meeting with Holly and Brad um you know them demonstrating the Panorama uh version um the advantage to me is it kind of gives the user options to to look at the data and I think that's uh that's very important rather than just having like static images now I know we like we you just mentioned but we're going to have some of those five labs static reports initially but as we talked about I'd like you know eventually for us to get away from that and just use panorama with their reports in the system but we got to start somewhere this is a good place to start and and we're going to learn a lot as
107we go through here any other questions otherwise I will entertain a motion to approve the a data dashboard created using Panorama and five lab programs at no additional cost to the district second by recel second by Danielle Cindy please lead us in a roll call Vote Yes yes yes Thomas yes yes thank you next is uh the review and potential approval of the district Management Group to conduct a district and board audit so Tom would you like to please introduce us yeah yeah so um last month I had shared in comments and um had shared some email Communications with the board um that we were working on uh two groups that we were considering for uh auditing purposes with the district and this is again continuation from the Strategic plan and one of the action
108steps that the Board needs to take right as part of our accountability to the Strategic plan um the Administration has worked with two of our board members uh both Craig and Raquel thank you for your time in that and um they were part of the process in meeting with both vendor Representatives asked questions um know we were able to also uh hear their presentations as well um at the conclusion of that process Craig and Raquel U speak on behalf of them and feel free to jump in with your own uh thoughts if you'd like but Craig recel has shared with me that they're both uh wanting to move forward with the district Management Group which was the uh contract presented to you in the board book um to move forward for the district the the
109plan would be um if approved tonight then I will contact the group immediately um and start working on Logistics um part of the first step is to Center the work around the board and the governance and expectations and how that plan gets executed things that the group would like to make sure that they are on the same page with the board about how some of this work needs to move forward and also start addressing the accountability metrics um for the plan and they will then bridge and assist us in and executing certain steps they'll do an analys Gap analysis for the district uh surrounding your priorities as a board and that's why that's the first step that's really important um the other piece will be that they will be able to then include stakeholder voices
110in the various processes that get identified that need to be looked at in the district um and they're going to yeah help us live out our strategic plan and build some accountability walls around it to make sure that when we do our reports to you we all in agreement as to what data we're looking at and what we understand is progress and growth towards our goals all I have um just to kind of give you guys my impression I mean the the two groups we looked at Handover and uh District Management Group or DMG uh both well qualified both really well kind of representative in the um educational space uh for me uh it kind of came down to I really felt like District management who was going to work in tailored with us um
111and would kind of also give us really I mean even in our first kind of interview they kind of gave us some honest feedback about what they were thinking and what they were you know their their approach and that they would recommend um Hannah group is very qualified to do the work but they were of all a c isue in my opion asking us to direct them on what we would like to see in research and I don't know about you guys but I kind of appreciated the help me get to something and then maybe like a Handover type model makes some sense but for right now I wanted somebody to really kind of take at least me personally kind of a real critical eye and a real collaborative approach of working with us and
112giving us kind of kind of constructive criticism as it were as it became necessary or available so that was me R anything to add or yeah I mean I just agree the the DMG they were just I guess they were just to me I felt like they were just more No Nonsense like these are the facts and that like like they said like they kind of criticized us on certain things which good I mean you know be honest we don't I don't want to give you money if you're going to just sugarcoat things for us I know just be honest with it Handover they were really good they were qualified like I said um they had a really good nice library of certain things that we could do um but yeah like Craig said I
113thought they would maybe kind of ask us what we wanted when was more it's like no you need to tell us what we need to do to get better so yeah at this point at least in our kind of strategic plan process like maybe later that kind of wealth of knowledge and database they kind of have might make sense as we're tailoring things but I just did didn't quite get the sense so you guys have any questions for any of us on that for yeah this is the first time that I've had to look at something like this professionally or personally or whatever so I'm I'm a little like unclear with um I understand like the purpose of it so like when I was reading through it I mean I'm excited about something like this
114I'm really excited I think the part that I get a little nervous on is when I'm reading through um and I directed an email to you guys and maybe you can kind of help clarify here is just like it it talks about um like in the beginning phase one um you know having a strategic planning steering committee and that's made up of this superintendent board members and select District leaders um why are we not including other stakeholders in that part of the process yeah if I could address that that's a really good question so part of our clarification and they're very aware we've gone through a process where we we went through our strategic plan they're aware that we had a steering committee that we held Institute day meetings where our internal stakeholders came and
115presented and and that we had parent sessions Community sessions and surveys launched in Community right so they're fully aware of that they understand we're at a point that we're looking at some targeted metrics that we can hold ourselves accountable to and ensuring growth you know one of the things we talked about as a priority for the district was literacy across the board for all of our students we did talk about a significant uh the the disproportionality identification in some of our areas of programming so they're very aware that that this plan has gone through that process and so we're actually going to be picking up someone our a little bit further along in their work already which is what I appreciate and that's why they want to really get in and meet with you and
116actually In fairness to both groups that was kind of their recommended starting point um because we do have an actively re and very recently approved strategic plan that went through that process already so so when we're starting off we're starting off is this coming in and just working with the board on what your understanding of this and what what our vision is is that I mean yeah I think that's that I think you just captured the word Vision uhhuh uh which is a part of that they need to see as a board where your understanding is you know they're going to also explain to you what their work is and how they go about it there's a gap analysis that they perform on a district and they they they take a very um as Raquel
117Kim shared there's an approach that they take that will be focused on research and data and the facts and then they'll get in they are going to be on site that's part of their work so there'll be some uh remote meetings but there'll also be on-site meetings and there'll be an opportunity for people to start working with them as they start looking but they have to start here and I think that's kind of one of the things I tried to emphasize during the Strategic plan our proposal came from a body of voices and in the end we we did what we set out to promise to do in my very first month on the job here in this District was capture as much of a collective and collaborative voice of a strategic plan for you
118guys by may but remember I said we you you might vote on it by June because it was a big body of work right but what my promise was I'll try to get this to you by May so you can begin considering what you want to do with that plan right and so now that that's gone through in June um they're going to come in as part of that um action step in our strategic plan to start talking about where our goals are our priorities and start executing that so this isn't like the same steering committee that we were dealing with before no no no okay I think that's why I was getting a little confused because the steering committee was made up of a lot of different stakeholders I had an explicit conversation with
119them about that and they they absolutely understand that okay yep okay good question no I think that was a good question anything else or anyone else just give me a minute please yeah yeah take your time thank you I think that was my main my main um thing so with with their like the phase two um are they I understand so we're we're going over the Strategic plan that's in place we're going over like what our abilities are what our accountability should be and then we're kind of moving that on so that is it so that our goals can be figured out I mean is that what are they part of that process that's is that where phase two comes in it's like taking the priorities that we already have right uh there not going
120to come in and re redo re-edit all the priorities that have been built out already right that's been approved by you as a board what we're looking to do now is take that plan and make it actionable with the next steps and then also then we've had this conversation about well what does success look like for the district from a metric standpoint and that's a part of the conversation they want to have with you and help you bring bring us on the same page so that we can bring everybody else on the same page because that's a lot of questions that are coming from committees right now and that's why it's important we get moving I'd like to have this work get started if you look at the timeline on their contract it's aggressive we're
121going to get moving we're not going to wait around yeah so I guess and again not being in any of the discussions um when we think about I'll just pick like student voices so is their job to explain to us how we achieve that or I I I'm not understanding exactly what their um involvement is I guess if you could break it down to really basic because I'm yeah yeah no um their model will be working with with you to understand Direction they may try to coach you a little bit if there's um a you know a myriad of opinions and perspectives part of it is them understanding but part of that will also probably be them be giving you direct feedback as well um because they're basing their work on research and what effective
122strategies and practices look like for a district um from there then depending on what that audit will look like I can't speak to that because that's part of their work that's when they're going to then get embedded in working with the leaders and then different staff that are part of that and collect you know perspectives voice and understanding but also they're going to learn about us and then start analyzing um almost like a problem of practice to solve and work with us on how to do that part of their model teaches us how to do that ourselves so it's almost like training the trainer so that eventually we as a district can start to do that ourselves too which is a great practice than for us to be taught um you know and I think
123the beauty of it is we already have these collaborative structures in place and as we do this work a lot of that is going to be felt in our committees and that's a great thing because we just recently even had like our cat committee um DCC and we're talking about what and what are some of the you know metrics or The Guiding points that we're going to look look at as we continue to focus on or staying within the guide rails of our strategic plan and so they're going to help us with that okay so I think I think like just like you said with student voice right the way I understand it is like the the step one or kind of phase one is understand of us educating them what student voice means to
124us okay right and then they will then look at our strategic plan and say hey there's a gap here your strategic plan that you heard for the community and that you guys kind of ratified effectively says this thing about student voice and looking at the data and it's a little different than yours you need to close that Gap and figure out like is there something that's a Miss there then once they kind of determine that and get that kind of understood they can then go out and kind of work with the various Community groups or work with others that we need to I mean community at large um and then the step once they kind of identify that they would report to us on what they found and that's that Gap analysis of what the
125space is step two is then being able to solve whatever things they come up with or issues they identify right so that we can move forward with action I and that's kind of like what I was thinking but in this report it doesn't really that's what I was asking about Community um feedback because it doesn't really Define who the community and stakeholder is and so at one point it did say like the in the grass teachers but I I guess like you know you guys talk about my empathy and all that but as someone who hasn't always been brought to the table on conversations when I read these type of things and it doesn't specifically State who we want to bring in like it was really specific when we were designing the reg plan you're
126going to look at you know students teachers parents this does not saying anything to me beyond our board and the higher level admin and so for me that just gets a little problematic when we are looking at possibly shifting things in that I just for us to be collaborate like collaborative all the way through and I think you're what you were saying is that we might possibly have to work with different stakeholders but it doesn't say that in there I'm just a little nervous on but it's in our plan in our okay but it's already in the board approved strategic plan it's not their work to do it though right so their helping us find ways to make sure we can execute our strategic plan but not with talking to the community though yeah but
127um I'm trying to find it like I use an example here um you know if we're looking at uh any one of our curricular programs where we have staff and students involved in that and they look at our structures there and and start looking at the data we give them right we they're going to look at our dashboard they're going to look at our data with us Identify some of those gaps build process with different stakeholders and voices and then at some point they'll provide us what their thoughts and recommendations look like and when that happens that will have been done through our collaborative processes right like because we still have Voice through CAC plaque rack and all the other committees that we have um we still have for example the equity committee that's used
128last year as an opportunity to start getting student voices and we're talking about trying to find ways to continue that momentum that we have so I think I don't want you to mistake that any of this work is redoing the Strategic plan which was built with all that voice because you got to keep in mind this step is actually because of the Strategic plan so it's helping us to just take an audit at our curricular programming structures that exist in the district and find those gaps I guess my my specific question was that they're not working with the general like the community at any point they're just working with with the board and with admin they're not really like oh we want to see there sounds like there's a gap we need to work with
129the community for whatever whatever the case might be they're not doing that part of it it's not again it's not specific who stakeholder is in this report okay so that's what I want and I would say that that kind of work absolutely is all of us still doing the work um if that makes sense right it does no well okay all right so I don't think they're going to go door too no and I know you know that's what they're not you know they're just kind of looking at us in our strategic plan and saying you're not meeting the needs of the students in this area you're not meeting based on like our data what we already have right anything like that but there's no need for them to go and like hey checken is
130this working for you all and this group of people because like that's already what's is that what I'm gathering we already did that to make our strategic plan you feel like that part was already done right so no one feels like we need to collaborate with our public body anymore for this right I again this is out of my I'm not saying that no that isn't necessary I'm just saying the framework of sometimes when you define something you may Define it too much and say okay this is too broad right so stakeholders to in my opinion way I read that was like when they first meet with us maybe there's a discussion about who these stakeholders are and what we what we Define that as and the input that we need I think that would
131make me it's a little uncomfortable for me not to know like who's picking these stakeholders why are we picking these specific stakeholders do they represent a rounded voice of people and ensure that we're thinking of beyond the people who are at this table and what we can possibly represent and ensure because I don't feel like our job can ever be complete no matter what we do without that um and so I that's where again anytime we talk about stakeholder voices I just kind of want to understand and like how are we picking these people where does it reach out to and you know that part of it and it's just not clear so so Danielle I think part of the maybe the lack of clarity is because we don't know yet okay it's a an
132it's an audit part of their Gap analysis audit is what's going to steer us to where we I guess it would be nice if they gu it doesn't it's fine with you we doesn't need to stay there because the onlyi that is the only definition of stakeholders is which why I'm asking you this question so I understand that part but the only thing that has been spelled out is that it's just us and that's a little that's where I'm like I don't where's the benefit of that if we're not only using our own voices so you are saying that we depending on where we move just kind of Might vary I think there's an opportunity there for that and if they come back and say well that's a different level of service then they have
133an opportunity to talk about that you know goals shift sometimes as you discover your shortcomings or that a need for more voices in the room may allow that to expand if it's as a board we deem it necessary so um is that concern alone enough for you to kind of pause on it I mean we're going to do a vote tonight I just think it's or you're just saying hey we need to keep that in mind as we move forward yeah yeah definitely I'm I'm like I'm very excited I think that we would I mean thank you for setting down all that but like I that's a part to me that stuck out to me um specifically um and I you know did try to have a couple Community convos just say like maybe it's
134just a me thing because again of what I experience but I think that stuck out to people like who are the stakeholders and like do you do you go to the public or is it just an admin and board thing all the way through what is it like it's it's a little unclear so I was just a little uncomfortable but it's out there but I think it's a great thing to look at so no I don't want to hold up voting for that for me not at all thank you thank you thanks guys any other questions all right I will entertain a motion to approve District Management Group to conduct a door a district and board audit from October 2024 through March of 2025 with the fees totaling $100,000 barring the need for rework which
135will be determined and priced separately so move so move by Sue second second by Rob Cindy please lead us in a roll call vote Thomas yes yes meows yeser yes mat yes yes great thank you motion passes uh 8.3 amendment of board policy so uh Raquel and Tom Raquel you talked a little bit about this I think so um you guys want to do a little quick intro or yeah I I Raquel actually covered it earlier in her report so this is a title change they it the title change is due to um the requirement of the broadening of the capturing of groups that qualify under this protection and that's so we're just asking that the board reflect this update to mirror the statute's change in language any questions on that I will entertain a
136motion to amend policy 2 colon 6 265 as presented so moved by Danielle second second by Raquel Cindy please lead us in a roll call vote mat yeser yes meows yes AR yes yes Thomas yes motion passes thank you uh next is authorization to purchase a standalone serving counter Josh all right so last year I don't know if you remember I spent a lot of time with students talking about food and this is actually a followup to that so um I had a lot of great conversations with uh Dr Smith's U uh Advisory Group and one their number one concern was lunch is not long enough make lunch longer so it didn't really make sense for Dr Smith to have to do that so what we really focused on this year is making the experience
137of getting lunch quicker therefore making their social time longer so one thing that we've done already is we've adopted scanning IDs at the high school which is making the lines go quicker but there's still only three points of sale which makes it you can only follow so many people through so the purchase of the Standalone counter does two things one it allows kids who just want to get like a water or a bag of chips they don't have to go through the main cafeteria line to get that then get the what they need and then just get about their business but the other thing that this do is allows the lunch ahead program to continue to service the students without having them go into the main lunchroom so that way we can order pre-order head
138their paninis are waiting for right at this counter and they can get that without navigating the line in the main serving area so uh this was completely student driven uh by their wanting for lunch to be longer but instead we'll try to make the serving time quicker any questions how long before it kind of gets implemented like um is that a this year thing or oh this is going to be done like instantaneously instantaneously instantaneous that Mark instantaneously instantaneously Mark your car yeah basically yes I forget now when I read it it was like at the request of quest or we're purchasing it from organic life purchas it already and then we're buying it we're taking ownership of it so that happens with a lot of products okay okay so my question is in three
139years whatever when we have to reevaluate our contract correct we go with back to Quest or we don't go with our is there we own it now correct but we bought it from them is that a problem no okay that's no okay that's one of the reasons why we're taking ownership off so when okay that's I just want to make sure that it wasn't yeah no that's a really good question so is this like a kind of like a pickup counter it's a pickup counter it also has a nice spot for like pizza to be served out of it's really just a way to get Quick Service food without going through the main line all lunch ahead orders will go through this line yes there are we just shifting from the main cafeteria line to
140this to this new single serve counter are we going to have to start having delays in in this area no because in theory right it's all new and relative but right now everyone goes into that main cafeteria area and they've got to be serviced and then they've got to leave whereas if we're having kids use the lunch ahead they're doing that part outside of so that's 30 to 50 kids throughout the day that aren't going through the line still being served food but that allows the kids who are buying food to get through the line quicker it's just like separating uh if you were go to like Chipotle you don't go through the main line to get your pickup order right you just go to the pickup order count so it's the same concept D
141will this be it this is going to be in the back of the high school marks better with the north Southeast won am but um it's in the back it's in the back corner it will be in the back corner of high school in the um cafeteria itself and what's nice about it too is it's on casters so we can move it whenever we want um so if we want to move it to a different location no problem so anyone else I will entertain a motion to authorize the purchase of a standalone serving counter for BHS C IIA from organic life for the amount of $ 29,31 62 so move by RJ second second by Sue Cindy please lead us in a roll call Vote sler Yes yes yes Thomas yes yes yes thank you
142motion practices next is authorization to to purchase maintenance Vehicles mark thank you uh back in 2018 um part of the capital projects plan at that point is to really get on a cycle of replacing Vehicles we were never on that cycle um this is really just a continuation of that cycle um there are still some Vehicles left in the fleet that are 2008's yes they're getting pretty old um but we're just going to kind of continue that cycle the other thing not that has anything to do with this but um the other point is we're going to start doing this also with um driver's ed Vehicles so you'll be hearing that in the near future as well to get them on the cycle um we already do this with activity buses we have a lease
143on those so there's a lot of different vehicles in the district actually well over 20 vehicles that um the Ops division overseas so this is just kind of a part of that um and again you know these do everything for push snow um uh deliver food to different schools um pull mowers for mowing the Lawns um so again like I said um hopefully you know we'll get there but you in a couple years our you know 2016's are going to be 10 years old so again this is about every depending on the year about every one or two years you'll just see Vehicles kind of coming through to keep you know keep them reliable and doing what they need to do in our district so we're selling two from 2008 Yes and so we're buying
144so two of the three that we're getting are replacing those yes and the other one is actually for the um HVAC technician position that was approved a while ago but we've just kind of been filling in the vehicle now for that person what is cooperative pricing Cooperative pricing is basically you know there's different coop operatives they can go through like sourcewell Omnia so they've already basically well the easiest way to explain is they've already really been bit out um so instead of actually bidding out the vehicles this pricing was already done okay so we're we're aart as a district of a few of them sourcewell and Omnia Partners is the main two so this is meaning that that has already been done Vehicles aren't exempt from bidding you go through Cooperative they put out the
145bid they collect the pricing they find the lowest price and we can buy through that cooperative for amount yeah all right I will entertain a motion to approve the purchase of three new maintenance vehicles from Gerald Ford and the amount of $17,250 so move so move by Rob second second by RJ Cindy please lead us in a roll call vote yes yes yes meow yes AR yes yes thank you motion passes next is text on display Brad yes I'm asking the board to put the book uh just Mercy on display for a period of one month to gather feedback from the public you can see the the board item there this comes from the high school English Department and was recommended to the superintendent by CAC thank you any questions okay uh just just on
146this this process here so anytime there's a new book it goes through this this process here there's three levels three different types of levels of materials so this would be an anchor material which means means that all kids would be exposed to it so only the Board of Education can approve those anchor materials so every kid in this particular class will read just mercy so it will go through this process with board approval there are supplemental taxs which are a part of our curriculum but there's like choices for teachers and students within that and those are approved at the CAC level and then the the last level is responsive materials so if something happens in our world or you know we're we're in an election season right now teachers can bring in materials that they
147uh need to teach those things responsibly within their classroom so those are the three levels responsive is on the teacher supplemental is on CAC and anchor for everybody is on the board of education is is the rough Theory with the responsive one that like you need to be timely with it and you can't quite go through all the other processes so it's kind of handled departmentally of sorts and from a teacher we really want plc and groups of teachers looking at those materials to bring them in to teach something that's happening in our world or our community right just because good to have many eyes on those materials a lot of readers but um that is the the point is if something's happening we want teachers to be able to teach and that is their
148vehicle for doing that but if it's something that's good and it sticks around they should move it to supplemental or anchor kind of up the chain all right any if there are no other questions I will entertain a motion that the Board of Education placed just Mercy a story of justice and Redemption on display for a period of one month in accordance with the Boe policy 6 col 210 instructional materials so move so move by Rael second second by Danielle Cindy please lead us in a roll call vote Thomas yes yes mows yeser yes mat yes yes thank you motion passes that is for our action items uh discussion items uh 2526 school calendar draft Brad yeah this is your first look at the school calendar for next school year the 25 26 school year
149which that date seems amazing to me sometimes um but around this time of the year we start getting phone calls in the curriculum Department with people who are amazing planners because they start asking about when the breaks are going to be for next year because they're planning family events and things like that so we try to bring you a draft of the school calendar I I can't get my leg together like that but uh a draft of the school calendar this month and then we would bring it to you for approval next month I'm a big believer in small tweaks in the calendar because that allows people to kind of adapt to that you can see just a couple of tweaks we would start school on a Thursday uh one this gives us a tiny
150little buffer for construction at HC Storm um but there's also a lot of learning that we have to do uh with our staff in those beginning days of school right so like we want to start the school year off great and uh so that we have two Institute days and one work day um that doesn't mean a lot to the public who looks at this calendar but teachers and staff would be engaged on those three days and then we would start school with our students on August 14th um the rest rest of the calendar is pretty much the same um and we would end as we have before just before Memorial Day we try and there's lots of calendar rules from the State Board of Education so those are a factor we look at our
151neighboring schools and like kind of where they're starting so schools in King County around us because our staff have kids in school there too and then um we look to some of like our partner districts because we share a lot of students with like Fox Valley Career Center Mid Valley Cooperative so we look to see that we're in alignment with those as well and we work with our staff to kind of bring out issues that they'd like to see in the calendar sometimes there's things that we can do sometimes not one thing that could happen before I'm off this board I would love to get rid of that last half day last day of school the last half day oh I know you you always have a good reason for it well could you more
152more half days but no right that that half day is for that the last remaining half days is for our parent teacher conferences it is problematic for parents who work it is a weird change of schedule for them used to have several of them but it's it's much better now for just personal benefit that's all I heard it's much better I I forgot that's what it is teacher conferences parent teacher conference mention this last year got one so if you have feedback you can send way um and then we'll bring this back again um with any changes I'll make sure I note those for next time and then you'll have a school calendar in November for all of those early planners and then you'll work on the next calendar year as well yeah we'll get
153started right again it's just it's a treadmill Groundhog Day yep the next item is the new course proposal so BHS again this is something that went through a c process BHS is taking a look at um a new course for next year this would be digital music production and digital music production is a course that would be housed within our music department so we currently have a class called rock and roll methods which is uh really popular with our students it's run every semester that I I can remember uh it's a term class and it's designed to bring students who might not be into performance music into the music and arts department this would be paired with that and uh gives kids some digital music production experience some of the projects that they proposed seem
154pretty cool to me and very relevant to a student's life around music a new course in a while we haven't added a new course in a while each new course kind of throws a little Ripple into the the pond of scheduling at both our Middle School and High School uh so it's been nice to kind of just deal with what we know but this is I think a great U addition to our music department yeah I don't recall the last time we had a new is is probably preco that we had one of these we just have we just we just have to decide if we approve the curriculum behind it or like the curriculum will come at another time you just offering the course so do we want the course or not yeah we
155want to put this in our course catalog and you guys get the the final say on that our staff believe this is a good idea but we take this through the board because there are you know different perspectives and we want I don't think they've ever done this yeah I don't remember seeing this at this point it's a discussion so you know if there's any questions today about it or reach out afterwards to kind help understand you know and these are classes that you would expect some reasonable level of interest in like teachers have talked to you about it students have expressed a need a desire or is this kind of a I think this is like if you look at some of those projects creating ringtones might TI Tok Trends this is what kids
156do are exposed to and do constantly even when we don't want them to do that so I think getting them in the Creator process is actually really important to me um so I think that this is a great kind of addition to that and when you do a high school schedule term classes are really difficult so when you compare two together that way you get a semester along course so putting these two things together will not have a dramatic impact on the high school schedule um like if you're adding a lot of semester courses or new courses all the time it is problematic you mean with the rock and roll yeah would be buddied up with that so kids would probably take both but please forward on any comments or questions and then we'll bring
157this back U the high school will start registration soon after you guys approve this process talking about kids in their courses for next year moves fast thanks Brad yep appreciate it uh review of board policy first reading she do it again she she actually she covered all of them early I don't know if there's really any need for us Raquel and I to talk about it uh she covered the changes and this is just a first read if there's any discussion now or uh similar to what Craig just said about uh Brad's last item if there are questions that come please feel free to ask we do have another board policy committee meeting as we've shared with you we're always going to have a policy committee meeting between the regular board meetings so our next
158one will be on November 4th no 4th any questions on these policies time to read them absor them a bit more okay great 9.4 multi multilingual update hi Jen hi are invite Jen and Ming up to the the podium to give you a little update on our multilingual program I was waiting for the official invitation good evening I'm John Hicks and I'm Ming Shelby and we're eager to provide you some information as well as highlight something um component are in our bavia multilingual program so bavia serves approximately 700 students who speak over 54 languages and our El service department um works with students who qualify for services there's 320 our you're fine hly our multilingual program is really um nested in our strategic plan and really um connects with the mission statement of empowering every
159student to acheve achieve their unique potential through an equitable and personalized experience that supports post prek 12 Pathways as well as the two priority statements of enhanced teaching and learning practices and fostering inclusion and belonging specifically as we work with our parent groups and um our Community Partnerships um in terms of our El programming our program is really supporting students prek through 12th grade with diverse language skills to be able to gain English proficiency of speaking writing listening and reading in terms of curriculum access we help students with a Core Curriculum by building background knowledge and academic vocabulary and then in the summer we provide students Early Childhood to 8th grade non-fiction and fiction book packs so that they can dive into books and spend some time in the sun spend some time outside reading
160and continuing that growth of that English language proficiency in bavia we said there's 700 students who speak over 54 languages but this information really represents our 320 students and the languages that are spoken at each school bavia is a diverse Community but you can see that um some of the languages are more prevalent in some of our schools but it's exciting to see um how Global our community of bavia really is and how multilingual our students are hope you brought your magnifying glasses so you could see that super small print up there so part of um how we measure academic proficiency is every student who is identified as elel will take an access test in January and so a part of what we do is Monitor our program of how our students doing with gaining
161academic proficiency and monitoring them to exit elel our bilingual program is housed at HC Storm featured on the slide is Eileen Matos our um kindergarten first grade bilingual teacher and the bilingual programs the focus is really by Literacy for students in both Spanish and English to highlight some of the supports at RMS and BHS for our multilingual Learners is last year we um adopted a new resource with English 3D and language launch so language launch is for our newcomers we're just learning um our language as well as getting used to the environment around them and English 3D focuses on uh proficiency levels and academic language for both um RMS and BHS and then at the high school they have the El breakfast these monthly breakfast for El students to build community um and just like
162a time for them to all get to hang out together and be together in a very relaxed setting and then last year we partnered with plusme projects so you'll notice in the photograph um on the left is the CEO and president and founder Richard Reyes and he got a chance to bring our students together and share like why what's important about your story you can see in the back of the slide they're generating their own stories where were you born what's your family um because every story matters and it's important to share so that was a unique opportunity for both students at RMS and BHS so this slide really talks about the support our El students get during the school day at the elementary level we've been consistent with push in support report um and
163wi time so they really have that attention and then at RMS and BHS our co-taught classes um and in super small font we really wanted to test your eyes late at night um those are the classes that are currently co-taught and BHS this year expanded the levels of math classes that had support and then there's a el study Stills class that students get that um targeted support with academic language and then at Middle School Bulldog block as well and then at BHS there's a bilingual counselor that helps students navigates all those things relating to academics the life all that kind of stuff that's really important for a high schooler as we look at Foster in inclusion and belonging we really want to highlight our district initiative of communication so our families let us know how
164they want communication to how they want to receive that communication and so with Hal's help we are really breaking down those language barriers so that families and students have access to school information and communication for all families and along those lines we have we have purchased interpretation equipment that's that suitcase that's up there and we actually used this at our last bpack meeting we had a presenter who was speaking in Spanish and we had a family in our audience who could speak Arabic and English so one of our translators our interpreters spoke English and the family wore a headset so they were able to participate in the Pres presentation and be able to take in information about literacy and being a biliterate family and student by wearing that headset so that's something that we're going
165to share and be able to communicate with others and be able to have that suitcase travel throughout the district as we have family meetings and and give information the last piece is a requirement from isby that we have to have a bar a bilingual par um parent advisory committee that's called bpac and we have um had had the opportunity to have four families attend the bilingual parent Summit in May and those families now are part of our bpac leadership team and providing guidance on what information they want to have presented at Beek meetings so it's exciting to have those pieces of communication and support for our families as well as our students so thank you for letting us highlight a little bit about the multilingual program and this can't be done without our amazing teachers
166and administrators who are fantastic and stand by our kids and listen to stories and welcome them you thank you thank you I have a quick question I'm just looking at the little headset things it reminded me of an equity meeting um will these ever go to like the actual inclass so that when teachers let's say it's our class um and they have a student that maybe is newer and they're not able to speak English instead of depending on another student to maybe translate and take away from their time but to utilize these in class are we at that point or is that something like do those work for that purpose or they would not this particular system operates on like radio waves it doesn't hook up to the Wi-Fi the other piece that you're talking
167about is technology does get better and better and there's different apps and different programs that teachers can use there's like Google translate on your phone that you can use and it can pick up the communication or you can take a picture of the slide and it can be in a particular language we're also using like Microsoft translate that allows the teachers to be able to have information in English and then it'll translate into another language on the student's Chromebook so we do have those supports and those pieces technology is fantastic it's breaking down barriers and the other piece that we are trying to navigate in balance is that ability to have our students also practice um in English so we have that that bridge to be able to translate for them but also continue to
168build that English proficiency so that they can work on those English Reading Writing and speaking skills so we're trying to navigate both um but we do have technology we work with Dave's Department all the time as new things are coming out and sometimes it's like oh I went to this conference and we heard about this device can we use it and then we work with our Tech Team to try to see if we can use our filter is that the right word Dave and our pieces of is why we have as a team so that we can find out what we can use but this is really handy because you can use it outside you don't have to re you know the Wii requirements um and so I think as as the technology gets better
169it would be great if all of a sudden you could put on a headset and it would automatically translate into the language that you could understand we're not quite there yet that's so I think one of the te was a um one of our art teachers was talking about that you know they show like tours at in different museums and the people are talking and she was just talking that point um it also it brought in to my mind like I uh when we do have uh parents who are not on english- speaking calling to our schools do we is there anything like that where like real time they can talk and it's being translated to those parents on the other end of the phone yes we have an interpreter service that you dial in
170and then they have a translator that will do that interpreting and translate so that parents have that information we use it all the time in IEP meetings or if we have El meetings or pieces like that it's on our website all of the teachers in the district can use it and it's really efficient and it's a great way to connect with families so like if someone caus storm they just say like please hold and they get the translation system that's great than thank you I just was looking at that it jogged one of our Equity meetings and that kind of right thanks thank you I have a few questions oh yeah yeah um so it says the um percent of students exiting in the five years is that our goal is to have them exit
171in five years and then is also does this include the uh any graduating students yes so it is our goal within five years and um the state level is at like 5.9% so the fact that we're at 10% is really amazing that we're above that um and the access it's a little bit tedious but there's this big window of opportunity that occurs during fourth and fifth grade so students who come in during kindergarten are identified they our goal is always like during that fourth and fifth grade that window that they'll exit at that time okay and then we have 320 students in E is that a pretty good average of the last four years it is in terms of um welcoming new students we really have more of an influx from like Venezuela colia and
172Ukraine but it really has been consistent we've also been able with that ability to add more staff at the high school and the middle school so that we can have more co- talk classes so with that consistency in programming we're able to have more consistency in staff previously when our numbers were lower we had more mobility of staff and we had to move them around but now in the secondary level we're able to see that we can have Co talk classes in science social studies Ela and math at the middle school and then we've been expanding as we've added more staff at BHS to have more students in those classes that are graduation requirements so um outside the core classes what are their supports like when they take electives that's a great question answer so
173as we're excited that our students have the opportunity to take electives sometimes in some schedules they may not be able to take an elective course because they are in another um class working on their English but our structures and our priority atavia has been to have students continue to have those elective options in those Support classes their El teacher can work with them in terms of like using some of the technology to be able to use to understand what is happening in class the El teachers also partner very closely with the teachers who have um the e cluster to say like let's frontload some academic vocabulary or whether there some things that you're working on that I can help and support so that's you know some of those ways raal that we kind of work
174and help and then how many endorsed El teachers do we have great question oh we just did the math on that Rael so all of our EC teachers are are also eel endorsed um and then we have about 35 34 staff members across the district who end doors and that is also a goal for us of having more teachers who are endorsed so that they can support across multiple areas not just areas where there's so what's the goal like how many teachers would you like to have endorsed every single one is it too bold to say 100% I'm just it's up to you I'm just curious yeah I think so because here's the thing is like the strategies you learned during your ESL endorsement I went through it many years ago it's good practices for
175all students it's not just for one group so if our 100% of our teachers are endorsed and have this then they can impact far more students than um just like a a subgroup of students and many um college courses for teachers right now are offering the ESL endorsement as well as your um General ad and your certificate so there's a lot of combinations that are really our recent grads are really um are coming to us with that endorsement how does that work for substitute teachers um as far as needing to be endorsed you know what are requirements for them when they are um needing to be pushed into the E classes like when a classroom teacher has a sub that day or like when the El teacher has a sub or when there's a substitute
176teacher that's yeah being pulled into the classes do they have to be Ur as well no right now there's no requirements are they bilingual no not necessarily but some but not all yeah so usually during a core class they'll have the a CO teacher and the core so like if I'm a normal math teacher and Rob is my co- teer he'll if I'm subbing then they'll try to rotate well like at an elementary level I you know I know storm very well so if you have Kinder slir that's Matos I Matos and she's not there that day we have permanent building Subs are they expected to be a bilingual to fill into those roles are you pulling they don't have to be how does that work for communication many times our students are able to
177understand as a kindergart yeah yes and they're receiving their instruction in half English and half Spanish so as we're working toward that goal of English proficiency they are being um you know they're receiving Communication in both languages throughout the whole day and I think storm does have a bilingual she's a part-time or or a Subs yeah okay mhm it's obvious not ideal right yeah yeah but the kids are so resilient and like you know even when we walk in the classroom they can tell like our Spanish they're like oh they're like clearly not bilingual and like we're able to communicate and work together and um they're very generous with being forgiving to okay and across together I'm going to add to Across the state there is a huge need and a call for bilingual teachers
178as well as SL teachers I just got something on my Instagram ISB is really doing some advertisement so bavia as long as the rest of the state is really trying to find that opportunity to hire more teachers so if you know anyone Danielle tell them to apply yeah we're looking I mean everybody is it's because it's a massive need everywhere I just think of like the eel Hub at storm and I just I kind of have brought that up as we should probably I mean shouldn't we have a sub that can fill in that is bilingual that would be great if that person existed yeah and to and to Echo Danielle what you're saying too um RMS hired two new El staff this year and so now all three e teachers at RMS are bilingual
179in Spanish and English so that's been a great asset to the a building so yeah that would be great than thank you everybody all right last discussion Point uh we have board matters um on this one this one's set aside uh for board members have dialogue on various topics um it might not necessarily use at every board meeting this evening we're going to kind of give an opportunity if people want to kind of continue discussion regarding the data which we talked kind of a little bit about earlier um and P specifically about board policy seven uh column 180 but also to give a chance because I know um a number of you met with Brad and Holly to kind of look at some of the and if you had any information you kind of wanted
180to report out of that or any discussion so leave it at that that was a really good meeting with you guys it was it was helpful to actually like sit down and kind of see what how how deep you can really go with everything um and that was part of you know we we voted on the uh the dashboard and I was appreciative that you know I know that the data is pulled in a certain way where Panorama it's not getting plugged in but something I had asked about was um you know there are certain things in uh Power School that we're not able to capture and like the stuff that we have to actually report on like if it's a harassment or bullying doesn't go through Power School um like the the actual criteria
181that we have to kind of go through um to report back to the state um that's being done on that Google doc form so I'd asked if that can be plugged into data and that is something they said like Holly could do if it was something that we had asked for so if there is specific data we could it's being kept um it's being kept now to comply so we could ask for it to be shown up there but it won't be on canama um until like we can actually get that done like make it more personalized I guess Beyond those like few different bars but it was really interesting to see how far down like all the stuff it's kept yeah no no and I know I personally would like to have an understanding
182from our board what we want to see if we want to see any of that specific to 7180 um and not today but like I think it's to me it's important that we don't just wait to see what happens this is something that like I I made clear and I personally feel that um I think we should have get try to get it as right as possible and be upfront with like what do we want to understand about our bowling because because we are in this new period of where we are capturing a lot of specific information um and I guess I would just I prefer to talk about it and maybe have that conversation together as a board there's anything specific we like to see show up on the dashboard related specific to this
183policy so um my thought is if there are board members that have some topics they want to kind of collect together a couple of things that you'd like to kind of continue to talk about if there's other ones and we kind of see them come together then we can kind of work onu there's enough kind of kind of impetus behind getting that discussion going so um otherwise we can just definitely make sure that we kind of look at the data as that you guys bring it online and see a gap then that's say the board can discuss if we feel that that's a gap that needs to get filled like just let you know what data points we for specifically yeah like if you say hey I think we need to monitor broing a bit
184more closely then some of the data may be easily provided then yes let's kind of put that or we want to look at Chronic absenteeism maybe more than it's actually being able to be reported or on a schedule or whatever part of me says in my opinion let's see what kind of coales is understand what that begins to look like and then find out based on that oh that's not reporting quite what we we expecting to see and then give them an opportunity maybe even to talk about like why it's not you know because maybe expectations versus reality are a little different or maybe just how it's being um accumulated from a data perspective is not capturing reality I think this is I mean we're talking specifically to the bullying policy not not to any
185other part so when I ask my questions and that's where I think an a discussion might be important because it's if I'm understanding correctly the data that we are now capturing is not on the dashboard it will not show up on the dashboard and it's not part of power school where pulled it's going to have to be pulled from these Google documents that are being kept um and so if we want to understand if um what our racial incidents are if we're having like a uptick on in this place whatever it is that we care what we've heard and what we feel is important at this point so our dashboard does not show that so in order for it to show it we're going to have to talk about it and so if we wait
186what are we waiting for I what I'm kind of like we're going to wait for what though because none of the data that is being shown on the dashboard is this data we're not capturing bullying data but we can but we have to would decide as a board do we want to show it on the dashboard do we want to have it presented in a certain way do we want it presented to us I think that's that's why I'm asking for a discussion a further discussion as a board so how do we get that done do we have a so we have like you're saying solicit basically opinions from each of you if like yes I'd like to discuss this topic further I think you know I think it should be something that's presented to
187the board I think it should be something that's shown off you know put on a dashboard element or whatever to kind of do that and kind of do that as a part of a potentially a special meeting or a lighter meeting we have coming up which November is a long meeting so it probably be a special Mee well yeah I mean one of the one of the main things that I was hoping for was to see the the data on incidents types um stuff like that to be able to compare to see you know one if there's a a way to measure if there there a way for us to have a baseline so then earlier in the school year M so then we can have a spot to say where where if anywhere was
188there an improvement MH if there's any type of data that we have that's readily available now to see so that we can then say are these areas for improvement or if that's Tom's decision to make cuz you know so that we're not saying improve on this area this is you know right kind of the balcony versus the Dance Floor thing right um but to understand what areas of data you're using to drive decisions that you're making or practices that you're implementing that's what I would like love to see like um that's kind of my thought process on it I I thought that that was maybe I misunderstood but I thought that was kind of the the driving factors behind seeing some of this data was so that we could I don't need to say everything
189I just said again but set a baseline okay track Target data I mean is there anybody that feels that we I mean shouldn't be looking at the day I mean is there a base understanding of like go ahead and collect it and present it to us so we understand what that is me save off an email process you know but you need to be very careful of that's going to be like we may end up having to end up in close session if depending on what the what you put on there attach to that of I don't I don't think any of us would expect it to drill down so deep I don't think that's a yeah and I think that that's why we need to have that discussion for sure but I don't know
190Open Session versus closed session we can decide well it just depends on the data that ends up getting done and I think Sue's just and I'm not trying to put words in your just we got to be cognizant of what we're asking for the data they presented because we got to be careful about that particular subset of data yeah sure because you can inadvertently drill yourself into a student's identifying issue think they'll be able to let us know if we're we're approaching that if we're asking for something at least that's a hope you guys were did really awesome at showing us like that's why that's not a good idea and that that's how you can narrow that down so I mean that was awesome okay and we can open it up to other items like
191for me I think the big thing was I'd like to be able to show like more academic performance data um and I I talked about this scenario with at our at our meeting is I'd really like this dashboard to be used by prospective new families wanting to move into this district and they want to know that type of information so like you said that academic piece it was like you can't click on it say what are your sat SCS but could have Hol show the static images yes but eventually like bring that all together so would it be like a board meeting that's not specific to this policy but just in data as a whole time we do that yeah like we want this on data Das for this is the data and have that
192discussion on what's important to us as a majority or no if I may yeah and I think this is a perfect time to insert that the DMG group that you approved can also help guide some of that conversation a lot of their metrics that they'll point to are you know research based and best practices and best gains of growth and what metrics we should be that are based on our strategic plan so they they could be help that's a good point they may say for the you have this goal and you're tracking nothing that supports that right you know so like if we have a goal of academic performance and we're not showing anybody about how we're supporting or succeeding at that or continuing to work on that then we need to do that you
193know yeah so okay yeah good yeah all right so that doesn't stop anything you're doing from a dashboard of generating that because my challenge has always been like the data is so broad how do you begin to see and like what you can call out of it is almost like well try this yes I can do that try that no I can't quite do that like me be a little bit of let's see the first basis of what it does but let's go ahead and continue the conversation with some of the other items that you you mentioned and then you mentioned and can look at some of those okay all right thank you very much Administration Tom anything you want to share for comments yeah um so I just like to say good evening everybody
194who is here thank you to all of our presenters thank you to our audience members I am stealing Aaron kilberg Thunder since he is not here I feel like someone have to someone has to say so I want to say thank you to our guests here in the audience tonight and thank you for sharing your thoughts um I know it's meaningful to the board and they have as you can tell very thoughtful conversations and Care um so I want to start off by acknowledging um the incredible work our staff and administration have been doing with the start of the year as we are nearing and inching towards the end of October there's a lot of work that's going on I think it's evident in the progress we see in our collaborative committee meetings um but
195I also think you saw glimpses of it tonight in the pr presentations that we saw the work that the students shared that they're doing and you hear about all these internship opportunities that our kids are being exposed to this is the momentum we're going to keep gr on right and we're going to continue to get better um I I'm also very deep deeply grateful for that level of dedication and hard work that everyone is putting behind this and the thoughtful conversations um with all that said this could not be done without the incredible leadership of our building principles and assistant principles um this week highlights uh principal appreciation month which includes our assistant principles and so I just wanted to share with the board that there is a deep amount of gratitude in the leadership
196of our principles when the Embargo data comes out you will see that um the work that we move can not be done without the building leadership and um I just want to take a moment to acknowledge them U for the immense pressure that they are feeling every day of the work and the tempo at which they must operate on a daily basis um so I just wanted to say kudos to them and I and that our principles are appreciated and assistant principles um as we reflect on the great work that's already underway it's clear that not only we have a lot of motion but there's more to come more ahead of us you approve some things tonight that we will all work on together um just yesterday we continued important discussions at our DCC about
197the role of AI in education and in our field and what that possibility looks like as is it impacts students and their lives um we are also uh as you saw tonight um you approved some things here that were a part of the work that we've done in our committees that are responsive and and create an environment that's responsive to our student voices and needs as well and our staff such as the approval of the anchor text to be displayed tonight right and that was a direct reflection of conversations that came out of CAC but conversations that emerged from student voice and teacher voice so you know I think if you're ever searching for examples when you're uh you know engaged in a conversation with Community you know in your spaces that you live in
198these are great examples for you to draw from um I also want to express my appreciation for the board's decision on approving some of the work that we're moving forward with tonight such as the dashboard and the uh um uh auditing group that we're going to be using as part of our strategic plans calling right for next steps I think this is going to help us all move forward and and do this together as an entire district and next month I'm excited because we're going to begin reviewing our building and District level data with the board so building principles are working very hard right now to prepare their presentations for next month's board meeting um all eight buildings will be going forward and presenting to you uh at the board meeting um then the following
199month the district will be presenting to you at at the aggregate level as a district so I'm excited for you to hear about the great things that are happening but you're also going to Glimpse get a glimpse of what each building is identified as what some areas of targeted prioritized uh work is for their building with their uh building leadership teams so we're super excited for that presentation as well you know I I think um I don't believe our buildings and our leaders are falling into a trap of we're good we're good we're good I think they're trying to what we're all trying trying to do is say here are some great things we're building upon right and areas that we're looking to reflect on and then on a final note I do want to
200take a moment um uh to thank our RMS teams for their work today during the whole situation uh being personally on site I was able to witness firsthand the care collaboration and professionalism of everyone involved um I also want to reinforce my appreciation to BPD and chief Maza for being on site and responding as quickly as possible when we were brought uh the situation was brought to our attention um I think it really just reinforced for me how deeply committed we all are to the well-being of our students the collaboration working together as a team people dropped everything that had to be happening on the school day and responded to things and so um you know this is again one of those processes where um we also spend time looking at our own internal feedback
201we look at feedback I know we've heard tonight some questions or concerns and we do hold a after Action Report meetings so that we can break down what did what went well and what are some things we have to shore up but I wanted to thank our RMS team uh for how responsive they were right so that concludes my comments for today right uh board comment Su do you want to start I'm good thank you okay thank you Rob she gives you no time to prepare I needed a couple minutes to think about it um so I guess uh maybe uh so celebrating successes uh what we had this earlier this evening uh I'd like to do more of that I mean I hope we're not limiting it to just one per session if we
202can get two three four whatever whatever it happens to be like to hear more about those uh those uh those items so um and then uh just real quick I I have to give it I just generally don't do this but I have to give a shout out to the bavia girls tennis team um they won sectionals for the third time out of four years and um four of the girls are going to State um actually I guess they're leaving tomorrow and they'll they'll play on Thursday so good luck to them as as they go upstate not down state so um but uh the other thing is uh Brad Nelson I wanted to say appreciation to him and it's my my my involvement as a family member in the tennis program is coming to a
203conclusion here so but uh he has done an outstanding job so he's one of the best not only coaches but best human beings that uh we have as part of our community so just a great uh appreciation for Coach Brad Nelson that's it uh so I'll say congratulations to Theo 7th grade girls volleyball team for winning the End season Conference tournament happy National Filipino American Heritage Month happy Halloween and happy dwali to all those that are uh just want to express my gratitude to the Roto staff as well as uh the police department um having the opportunity to have a closed session to understand the security measures and everything that goes on I know that there's a lot of involvement um seeing on social media the Public's um desire for knowledge and understanding what's going
204on it's understandable and as a parent of the child who at Rolo it's understandable to stress and want to know what's going on every single second um but I know that you are all taking care of the school and the students first and then you're going to respond when you can so I appreciate it so I'm just expressing my gratitude for doing that that's all that was really nice um I think this is the only time the only day that I was happy about my daughter being home with the flu scooch over a little bit um she's a Rolo student so um yeah thank you and I I mean here definitely we as parents are concerned and I I responded to you Tom and I appreciate the transparency I don't know the timeline behind everything
205and we don't get details understandably um but I did hear from some people that they just even though you didn't have the answers that you still said hey this is happening just you're aware and then I I just appreciated the um education piece behind it um so again I don't know the timelines but just reading through that it just again that's what I want to say but um it's it's always hard when you do have your student in the school because that's a piece of your heart so again I was just like glad you're in the bedroom with your flu just stay quiet um uh I wanted to kind of bring off of uh Rob's talking about our celebration I think one thing I would love to see too is our lower grade levels like
206I I really want to hear about their celebrations too but I mean I love when students are up at that Podium it is the coolest thing I don't know if it's just like a weird thing with me but I just get so excited because they're just so cool standing up there being able to talk to all of us and give these presentations like the broadcast kiddos I can't I can't stand up there and give a presentation like that um so I just I'm so proud of them and so I do love to celebrate I again would love to see some other kiddos up there too I I love hearing from our high school kids um this is something just personally my husband I swear every time we watch games he is he says stuff and
207then the like the the announcers say it and I was like man this would he would love to have this something like this like I I'm just excited to see where our students go with this as it being an option how cool I mean just it's really really cool um and then yay for all the collaboration and I think that's all I have I just I'm really I'm grateful for our new student ambassadors and just the celebrations that we can have with our kiddos um from my perspective um I took a few notes like lower grade levels and close session and some stuff so we'll talk about that later um the RMS I just kind of one of the interesting things that I'm kind of continually learning as my first year as board president I
208got a phone call from him as he's driving over to say hey I just want to let you know because I don't have a kid in school right now so I don't get the emails I don't get the notifications and all that other stuff so he let me know and we talked about kind of like when do we let the board know and when like the decision really that they determined was kids first safety first let's get a grip on understanding what's going on make sure the parents all know and then let us know you know kind of thing um and then and the one thing I will say kind of that I saw that a little bit because I don't usually see too much I'm limited like Facebook or whatever online is but was
209nice see when someone was like I didn't get the email someone usually a few minutes later like seconds later was like here's a copy of it right like people trying to kind of educate each other because you can't control how fast things H your inbox sometimes um I uh the uh other thing is I really was kind of struck today that while we have celebrating successes at the beginning really feel like through a lot of this there was a lot of successes celebrated today you know with BAC with like moving forward with the um warm safe and dry you know there's a lot of kind of good things that we kind of percolating because a lot of work is getting done and I know sometimes it feels like we probably talk a lot but things
210are happening up here um and behind the scenes more importantly um and then lastly we had a meeting with um fellow bavia governmental organizations this week we're starting in kind of a the the group decided we're all going to meet quarterly so that's the bavia library that's uh the school district with us representing it uh that's the park district and the City of BET so we're meeting quarterly with them just to kind of share are there things we need to be concerned about um the mayor's at them we learned a lot about growth in bavia for a little bit on that um and and it was a great it was a great meeting it was a fun meeting um and and we talked about things like one of the examples we probably spent 20 minutes
211we had a very nice agenda we didn't follow any of it but um she but we talked about Ai and like what different entities we're kind of looking at for that and how like the part distri is looking at it for streamlining some of their operations and you know um the library is talking about they're getting ready to kind of run some kind of classes and and begin to educate people in that because I'm seeing profession and libraries are some of the ones that are taking the Forefront on trying to teach the pitfalls of it while the education fear figures out how to kind of safely let it into the world so um yeah so it was a good meeting I'm looking forward to that in the future so and with that I will entertain
212a motion to adjourn so mooved by Danielle second by second second by Raquel all in favor opposed none it is now 9:47 p.m. and the meeting is adjourned e for
